Ferdinand Magellan’s Voyage

It is currently 1525 and the Manuscript is now present detailing Ferdinand Magellan’s voyage around the world in 1519. The work has been attributed to a scholar born in Vincenza, Italy Antonio Pigafetta, who kept a a detailed journal of the voyage. Although Pigafetta lost the original journal during his voyage with Ferdinand, he managed to save four manuscripts. One of the manuscripts is written in Italian and three others are written in French. Pigafetta's journal states that on September 20, 1519, Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan set sail with five ships and 270 of his men from Sanlucar de Barramenda in southern Spain. This Vogaye was set to be his first circumnavigation of the world. At this time it appeared that there was strong competition between Spain and Portugal to dominate different parts of the world. Magellan's journey took an unexpected time frame of 3 years. During this voyage, they faced challenges such as running out of fresh food along with ships that were vanishing or being sunken due to horrible weather conditions or they simply gave up on the journey while seeing others die of frostbite or infectious diseases. Magellan’s voyage had a purpose, to demonstrate that the globe was indeed round. It is said that this voyage was not meant to be a scientific expedition rather it was a commercial and political expedition by the Spanish monarchy. During this Voyage, Pigafetta includes an early Western description of the people and language of the Philippines, where Magellan died in battle. Pigafetta also includes that of the approximately 240 men that were sent out only 18 men returned to Spain including Pigaffeta. Magellan’s voyage has been one of the most important journeys in history since it helped prove the idea that the earth was round, it expanded commerce by providing different alternatives to commerce routes, and it helped draw world maps for the foreseeable future.

             She was used to hearing words of gratitude from her patients, be it from men, women, children, yet that didn´t mean she ever truly got used to receiving them as the stories behind each and every single ´thank you´ were all different one from the other. Still, as she raised her gaze to meet the clear eyes of the child servant, it was inevitable for her to soon enough, find the ends of her lips slowly curving upwards.

What a relief... If she could relieve the pain from even one person alone, then that was enough for her.

"I am glad that I was able to help" she spoke with a calm tone of voice as her smile still lingered on her lips, until---- "Lollipops?" Right--- Although many would question her choice of giving candy to the child as it could induce caries on his teeth, Nightingale believed that a small sweet treat would actually provide for emotional comfort for the child after having experienced such a tragic fall, and as long as he properly washed his teeth afterward, there shouldn´t be any major issues in giving the child a small candy.

Afterall... Didn´t nurses also serve to provide for emotional support to their patients and their families as well aside from treating them formally?

Thinking for a few seconds, she wondered if she actually had any sort of sweets in her office, and upon giving the thought its required time, she finally remembered about a few candies she had left on one of the drawers of her desk. "Please wait here" And with that being said, the nurse walked towards her desk in search of the sweets that could brighten the child´s spirit after getting his knee scrapped. Once she found them, she extended two of them towards voyager.

"Here, they may not be lollipops, but they are candies as well. Do make sure to properly wash your teeth after eating them" and with that being said and done, she gently proceeded to pat the top of the child´s head as she accompanied him towards the exit of the room.
