Well! Seems like a lot of people had a lot to say about mischaracterized Kirby characters, as a matter of fact, there were a whooping 57 entries! Well, let’s get going with them, shall we? Just,,, beware that this is a LOOONG post.

Haltmann

The dude 100% did fucked up shit and needs to be held accountable but people seem to so easily forget the degree he was influenced/corrupted by Star Dream. I don't understand why people hate Haltmann and love Star Dream who is arguably the actual reason HWC started colonizing and draining planets. Also the fact that Haltmann isn't conventionally attractive to the majority of the fandom makes him less sympathetic ig?? But the dude is a grieving father who made mistakes that sent him down a spiral into being corrupted and then deleted by a heartless machine. I can't help but pity him

Prince Fluff

Go on ao3. Look in his tag on tumblr. He exists only to be Kirby or Shadow Kirby's love interest most of the time, with no personality of his own.

He barely gets recognized anymore, and if he does, it's usually as a ship Prince Fluff was a big part of my childhood, with Epic Yarn being my first game. To me, he was Kirby's fellow main character, and they had a cool sibling/best friend relationship. But now, a lot of what I see of him is just . . . Kirfluff. Which is cool and all, but man's a prince! He can do more than be a boyfriend! Heck, he runs an entire kingdom by himself! One thing that I want to see more of is Fluff as a stressed but caring ruler, not just a sidekick/boyfriend to the pink puff. Give yarn boy his deserved appreciation!.

Dark Meta Knight

Hello! I am here to spread the good word of a character with no personality. It's the mirror thing. Of course. Dark Meta Knight has No Personality. Zero. Nada. Zilch. He's Meta Knight but Dark. What does that mean? Your guess. He fights Meta Knight. And wins lmao skill issue blueboy. And fights Kirby. And loses a few times, which isn't surprising. He was dumb enough to split Kirby in four, though. Four times the Kirby is four times the amount your ass is grass. You're practically a forest at that point because you're so grass. So he's violent and has no personality outside of being violent. Woo! Triple Deluxe has him attack Dedede in Dededetour inside the Mirror. This has led people to think he fucked over Sectonia. This makes my heart bleed as much as Taranza probably did when he was punted off of Royal Road via Fuck You Lightning Ball. My man just has no sense of timing,,,, They just wanted to include a Meta Knight battle because Knight Battles are a Kirby standard at this point,,, You think a man that stupid can figure out how to take advantage of a woman's insecurity? I don't even know if he knows women exist. How many female Amazing Mirror characters are there??? Boxy??? Moley mentions having a wife once and Dameta doesn't know what he means. But other than being driven to immense violence and being scapegoated for the stuff his boss probably did, Dameta has other hobbies! Like whatever his motivation in Star Allies is. Something dastardly, I'm sure. People really like to pretend he's not part of the Star Ally club when my man is doodling with toddlers and posing with his less cool less edgy self. Would a villain have a silly little we heart kirby statue? No, didn't think so. Also I cannot imagine him as a dad to Shadkirby either. Do they even interact? I've seen both "Amazing dad" and "Outright abusive" as interpretations and I can't go with either. But I think that's because I don't enjoy Metadad that much. They're like awkward coworkers. He thinks they're student and mentor. They're not even that. Dameta barely knows Shadow exists.

Dark Meta Knight is very popularly characterized as like an abusive parent, usually physically abusive. Mainly to Shadow Kirby, of course. He's an asshole, yeah, but not THAT bad, christ. I've seen multiple fics where Shadow Kirby is some poor little hey what t the fuck hes fighting himself. um. Back to being a hater.

Shadow Kirby

Some folks still think he's shy/cowardly like from the Amazing Mirror Days. Not really true anymore. From what fans have seen from the ending of the game, he does protect the Mirror World. As for the spin off games that include him, he's pretty tough and even creates mischief sometimes.

Shadow Kirby is constantly treated as an "evil" Kirby. Especially bad after Fighters and fighters two. Not to mention "Parallel Kirby". There's also a strangely common trend of making them more sapient than pink Kirby, who tends to be infantilised to hell and back. Shadow Kirby also is often treated as a complete coward who can't do anything right, when they aren't called evil.

He's shown as completely different in several different occasions, not only in personality but in design I like shadow kirby he's purple and then he's not

Dark Taranza

Dark Taranza, gonna be honest what little characterization people give him are actually okay compared to the rest. But I'm still a hater and hang on im watching jerma clips. okay. He's like Sectonia if Sectonia was Taranza if that makes sense.

Shadow Dedede

Shadow Dedede barely gets shit but I'm going to be a little hater anyways. I don't like most characterizations. I see people make him like a dictator like bro he's literally just some guy.

Sectonia

have you seen how often people say that sectonia and taranza were boyfriend and girlfriend in canon?????? they were never!!! shes the gosh dang final boss but shes only ever used to give taranza angst. she is her own person with a personality!!!! yes their backstories are interconnected but gosh!!!!

This not too prominent but I can't stand it when people portray her as an uwu shy girl pre-corruption. While she gave in her worst aspects, she was probably always a kind of vain, girlboss! I mean she knows how to fight with rapiers c'mon!!!

idk it just feels like lots of people just see her as Taranza's tragic dead wife and like nothing else you know? like she is more than that and I feel like what little content we have of her proves that (like the soul boss descriptions (especially the original japanese text of the 2nd phase!!) and the eternal dream song) - or maybe im reading too much into those because im hyperfixating on my blorbo whoops

Kine

I'm not sure how true this opinion is considering how little people talk about Kine, I feel this is partially the anime's fault, or maybe its because of how he just looks, but Kine is cool and is not some stupid loser fish. Before the days of Crystal Shards, Him, Kirby, Rick & Coo were the dream team at the time, always hanging out going, with various activities long before the days of Meta Knight or even Dedede. Kine is an awesome aquatic rep for the Kirby series not to mention drinking and being a pirate and Kine even has a Wife! Kine has got it! I guess this is a partial compliant of Ship of Theseus which can be applied with Rick & Coo too, but I feel Kine gets the most hate if any because of people who are unfamiliar just see a dopey fish and are unaware of his origins and his past with Kirby. I'm not upset with the current representation of the Kirby cast (I love the RTDL team being the main crew) but I do hope the animal buddies get some more love, Especially Kine.

People either portray him as a edgy sociopath or constantly bored and annoyed. Portraying him as an adult or a teen kinda annoys me as well. I'm very picky about portrayals of Marx so don't get upset if you portray him as one of these I've listed.

Sometimes I see people only joking about the "hungry so he came along" thing with Marx and it's pretty overdone

They took one look at him and said “to the insane asylum bitch”. I don’t think he’s some crazy murder hobo rather a dude with questionable morals and puts his own mischief and fun before others it seems. Though Marx is indeed one of the least “character” characters when I mean he doesn’t have much depth in comparison to other characters. But you could do anything else than have him follow the Jevil path of him being crazy. Make him evil? Sure. Make him a cringefail idiot? Sure. Make him a crybaby bitch? Go ahead. But making him the definition of what a 14 year old white girl in New Jersey that probably is addicted to Instagram and thinks Webtoon comics are the highest level of art and storytelling’s definition of insane doesn’t cut it cuz. Slapping the spaz label without a thought of what’s being done on a character who fits the mark makes the Schizoid peeved who coulda known. As this is all coming from the one person who has likely ruined Marx’s character the most for Kirblur by making him a somewhat empathetic manchild who clings to both pipe dreams of normality and being a monster btw. (Also this doesn’t mean jokes, you can joke about him being a psycho like Jerma it’s when it’s taken 100% seriously is when it’s bad). Also to add on, Woobification of Marx or any Kirby character period CAN be annoying if taken too far. I take full responsibility in the fact my variant is also woobifed to an extent but that train full of ticking bombs doesn’t bother me as much. Make him sadcry and be gay he deserves both those things. Send him to sad hell with the rest of them.

Making him stupid or reducing him to just Silly Clown. Or just having him act in purely impulsive or spontaneous ways (which sometimes happens when juxtaposed with a more "collected" character like Magolor).

Daroach

this is something i’ve noticed specifically in chatfics, but when daroach is in the ensemble some of them tend to designate him as the Goofy Meme Dumbass for… idk, fandom quota? i really don’t know why it happens because he has a bunch of canon dialogue (and alternate continuity stuff like the novels) that show him to be cool and clever. i’m not saying he can’t have a sense of humor or anything (he’s definitely the type to have a bunch of quips), but it sucks when he’s mischaracterized because the fandom doesn’t give him that much attention as is. if you NEED a silly haha guy, marx is right there!”

Morpho Knight

"Morpho Knight is a creature of mercy. It's a benevolent entity putting tired souls to rest." NO?! I'm going to copy-paste some stuff I put in a post of my own. A while back, SYZekrom on Reddit translated Morpho Knight's entry, and it contains some... interesting information. Allow me to provide some excerpts. "He’s a red knight with butterfly wings, continuing from a pair of white wings like an angel’s, and a pair of azure wings with a bit of an evil feel." This is the first of two instances where Morpho Knight is outright stated to be evil. There's also stuff in the art book that supports my theory that Galacta and Morpho are permanently fused and the former is not dead, but I don't want to get carried away. These are its gacha figure descriptions in Forgotten Land: "The fluttering fiend that casts judgment upon final battles is drawn toward the isolated isles of Forgo Dreams. There, it feasts on the most powerful soul it finds and takes the fearsome form of a scarlet-clad knight… Let the most challenging battle of this new world begin!" –English "One of the dreaming birds, which are said to pass judgement upon decisive battles, drifts towards a forgotten, isolated isle as if summoned. There, it sips upon the strongest Soul and descends as a red knight. Finally, welcome the dusk… of the deadliest battle in this New World!" –Japanese While at first glance there doesn't seem to be any information of note, the "fluttering fiend" bit in the English version is outright stating Morpho Knight is evil, and the phrase "he deadliest battle in this New World" doesn't sound particularly heroic. But I digress... Morpho is NOT a good person! This is clearly leading up to a villain vs hero confrontation! Which, may I add, implies that reaping Galacta Knight wasn't necessarily a good thing for it to do?!

Elfilis

elfilis is NOT entirely malicious. they would gladly accept hugs and kisses. being in a fucking capsule ALONE and AWARE for likely CENTURIES will DO SOMETHING TO YOU YOU KNOW?? god fucking DAMN dude... and after the ending of the true arena in the game, WILLINGLY GAVE THEMSELF UP TO ELFILIN. also they're not fucking DEAD you PSYCHOPAYHS elfilis is STILL VERY MUCH ALIVE!!!!!!! RUUAAAGGGH!!!!!!!!!!

Susie

Being Evil or being a Sad uwu girl who has had bad things happen to her seems to be the only way most people can portray this character.

Susie isn't a friend. She's selfish and wanted to take over the company. Her "redemption" is pointing Kirby at the world-ending machine, gives him armor, and then stands around. She doesn't even know his name. The closest she does for good is tell Kirby to do something he would've done on his own.

My girl really became the subject of hate thanks to a mistranslation. I mean yeah she likes robots and shit but the fact that people think she is a terrible person and that she's still colonizing planets makes me upset. i blame the translation team for everything.

When people say she has fully redeemed herself and is reduced to cishet, pretty girl??? Like no, star allies mistranslation my ass you fell for her corporate propaganda. The female characters in this franchise, while lovable, is not nearly as popular as a lot of the male ones. HAL literally gave us a morally grey girlboss who we can still sympathise with. She actually feels like a very real character in this fictional world.

You Know How People Are About Her

she's not even my blorbo!!!!!! everyone thinks she's a huge evil bitch who has done terrible genuinely unspeakable things. i read a fic that went on and on abt the horrible things she "did" to meta knight when he was mechanized (things so bad i cant even say) and i was pulling my hair out she did not fucking do any of that!!!! yes the universe can have pretty dark moments but good lord people only use her to woobify meta knight and give fuel to ship him with others and it pisses me off lol. or people go too far the other way and woobify HER to ship with him and aughhhh no one has a shred of media literacy. she's not purely good or purely evil she's such a complex character who did bad things because she was in a bad situation and the best example of a morally grey character who's on no one's side but herself and that will always be more interesting that 100% good or 100% evil. once again she's not even my blorbo but i've never seen a character butchered this badly by a fandom

Because of mistranslation (from what I've heard) Susie's whole mechanizing planets has been the number one thing when it came to susie hate and the only reason as to why people hate this girl so much. Honestly Susie's character has been fucked up immensely and no one has such a divided spread of opinions like she does. Some people brush away her backstory and make her a soulless being with no love whatsoever.

Oh my god. Oh my god. Susie Haltmann. I cannot with the fandom interpretations anymore. It's ridiculous how bad they've gotten. Susie is a two dimensional character. I absolutely despise seeing people portray her as some sort of greedy capitalist bastard and "the one with the braincell". In canon, she's consistently been portrayed as a sweet person (with a knack for violence, but EVERYONE in this series is like that). Everything bad she did in Planet Robobot was FOR WORK and the will of HER FATHER, and even if she did want to do the things she did, she's clearly not doing them any more. The "mechanizing planets and peoples" line in Star Allies is a mistranslation. And the "punishing savages" doesn't have to mean anything bad. It could mean she's punishing evildoers with her money and resources. In fact, I've seen some translations put it like that And Meta Knight... is just the straw that broke the camel's back. Oh lord. Why does everyone insist that he hates her? There's the little scene in Star Allies... but god, that isn't canon, it's clearly a joke. If anything, Susie might have been trying to talk to him and he was just trying to avoid her in a misinterpretation of the situation. It's supposed to be funny. Why are you imposing this onto people like this automatically makes Susie a devil incarnate and anything involving those two characters in problematic? Just shut up.

Meta Knight

Everyone thinks he’s just the ‘edgy character’ or ‘the uncaring mentor figure’ while in actuality he really does care for Kirby (and Bandana Dee) more than anyone gives him credit for!

Everyone either makes him all broody and lonesome, like shadow the hedgehog or batman; or they make him a goofy dad, like Dedede or Hugh Neutron. In reality, he's a weird uncle with unknown motivations, simultaneously selfish and practical. Also, he doesn't hide the fact that he likes sweets, he eats them away from everyone so no one steals them (Dedede and Squeak Squad).

He's not Kirby's fucking dad! He's an irresponsible uncle that hands out swords! And he is definitely in love with dedede, he is the only other dramatic bitch willing to build a skyscraper to beat up kirby (I am using intense anger for comedic effect)

He wants to look cool so bad but he is actually a huge fucking goofy goober. Any representation of Meta Knight being a badass is propaganda made by Meta Knight himself to convince you he’s cool. I mean have you seen his RTDL Deluxe pause screen description? King Dedede’s and Bandana Dee’s are in first person, but his is in third person? To fair this has been less common lately but back during 2014-2016 MK was usually portrayed in fanart/fanfic as either this wise veteran or cold edgelord. He is just an unhindged!!! Silly!!! Guy!!! He can be cool and cringefail!!! But he is also compassionate in his own aloof, awkward way!!!

i am not a big fan of the metadede ship. i think people are shipping for the sake of having a ship and nothing else. As someone with a severely underrepresented orientation (aromantic and asexual), when I see a character I like, I will project onto said character. This is the case with my interpretation of Meta Knight. I saw a cool character that I liked who a) doesn’t have any canon love interests and b) didn’t really need a whole ton of friends/significant others to be happy with life. Meta Knight always seemed to be perfectly content with the friends he has on Popstar and his crew and everyone in the anime, so I looked to him for hope that I could live the same way. I was open to the metadede ship at first, but as time passed, I felt less and less comfortable with it. It seemed to me that people were so hungry for gay ships that they just pulled this one out of thin air courtesy of Kirby Fighters 2, which is to my knowledge the only piece of media that somewhat supports this. Why can’t people just be happy with MK and Dedede being friends or frenemies? I’m probably starting drama with this bc I know how popular metadede is on Tumblr so I apologize for upsetting you if that is the case. But I also feel that I shouldn’t apologize just because I have a different opinion.

I dislike how "pathetic" the fandom has made him out to be. I don't like it when he's portrayed as overpowered but... "pathetic, whiny manlet" could not be further from the truth. How did we get to that?

Kirby

Often people make Kirby more dependent on others than he actually is. He's an extremely independent person that literally cannot be stopped by anyone who tries to get in his way

dude hes not a baby. he drinks in the manga adukt kirbies are a fine interp god. and hes not a godkiller or some shit he just fights for his friends hes not some terrifying monster kirby is literally just some friendly guy. strong yeah but just some guy. he fights strong entities incidentally lol

The anime portrays them as a literal infant, and due to its overprevalence (despite not being in the same stream of canon as the games), this is often their characterization in the fandom. Canonically, they indeed are a child (at most, they'd probably be a teen in the modern games), but they are old enough to talk, and they demonstrate a high amount of emotional and even technical intelligence.

Admittedly, this is one that usually only happens to people outside the fandom, but it bugs me when people portray Kirby as a sort of immoral monster who only does good things on accident. When it’s quite the opposite! He may not be incredibly bright, but he does his best to help people. Oddly enough, there’s not many cases of “he would not say that” in the fandom for me because of how loose Kirby’s story is. It is lore heavy but the actual characters aren’t super concrete save for a few and I think that’s perfectly fine

People forget that their air bullet!! is an attack!! its literally one of their only ways of dealing damage in DL1!!! I’m looking at you Smash Bros!!! Why isn’t it their nair?????????

WHAT DIDN'T THEY DO!?!?!? Taranza, as we see him in Triple Deluxe, is such a fun villain. He's dramatic, arrogant, a total suck-up to Sectonia, and it's so. Fucking. Good. He's a devious bastard, he monologues!!! His animations in the Clash games are so fucking campy and dramatic it's chefs kiss!!!! Fanon Taranza is as plain as white bread. Sometimes as pale as it, looking at some of the gijinkas. No shade though! As little shade as there is melanin in him lmAO- He is flanderised to hell and back. There are so. Many. Fucking. Taranzas who happen to be nothing but sad and weepy about his evil dead wife. Where's the bite!!! The pizzazz!!! Even in canon, when he is a bit of a wet sack later on, he still hunts for an altar he can bring her back on. My boy's a wannabe necromancer!!! Write that shit in your lost lenore Sectonia fic you fucking cowards Queen's Phantom ain't just for show. The above is also evidence for woobification! The fucker is obviously sad his crush is dead! But can we pleeease focus on anything else. This is definitely not targeted at Hal Labs. Imagine being woobied so hard your creators backtrack your personality I would just die. "Ehehe he's the responsible mage!!" No the fuck he isn't he can't be trusted with anything he tries take control it WILL blow up in his face. He knows magic he's good at magic but is he responsible??? Fuck no my man's strongest attack is "Blow myself the fuck up via a giant burst of magic" and it shreds. Even worse is the "Taranza got mind-controlled by Sectonia" theory in tandem with this. That wasn't confirmed right. Right. God I hope not that would be embarrassing. He can't even have a moment to realise his devotion has gone too far and she doesn't love him or even care for him, and he has to finally make that decision to free himself from her like ain't that cool!!! And then making him all sad over her afterwards it's just a Little Fucked if you're tryna put it all together eh. Eh. And he's not suuuper objectified (That usually goes to Seccy rest in piss girlie) but the way he's treated in some ships is. Eugh. Fucking Magoranza amirite he's basically there to look responsible and cute (I've already explained my issue with this) and to fix the tortured soul who is Magolor (I do not like Magolor. Nor Magoranza.) Tbh Sectaranza does the same he's there to be tragic because his girlie's dead. When you give him less personality than the dead cardboard cutout you know you fucked up. Anyways these ramblings are here to remind you what Hal Labs stole from us: Taranza but not a TOTAL saddo. Theatre kid Taranza. Arrogant prick. He's even British.

For the anon above me, I just wanted to say that this entry is probably my favorite and lives rent free in my mind.

I'm definitely guilty of it and it's all we have to go off of but PLEASE he needs more than to be Sad. Give him hobbies and interests that aren't just gardening, at least. Make stuff up about him, please!

So, SO many people make him an absolute crybaby over Sectonia. Even though, yes, he has grief problems, it's not his whole freaking personality. Pretty sure they're forgetting the fact that he LITERALLY HELPED KILL HER.

Taranza in some corners of the fandom has kinda been turned into this forever crying baby who can never recover from losing Joronia and like, I never see people who do that write about the recovery and being able to move on to the final stage of grief.

Everyone needs to stop reducing him to pathetic simp. He is allowed to grieve but he's probably one of the more mature characters within the series???

People disregard everything else about his character to make his tragic relationship with sectonia his only character trait. Not sure if this quite counts as woobifying since he does canonically still mourn her (and obviously seeing a close friend/crush go down the path of self destruction and ultimately die from it WOULD NOT be something you'd get over quickly). But I'm so tired of taranza in fanart and the like being an uwu softboy with Crying as his main character trait. Like he's canonically more than that! He goes full cocky villain mode when you confront him near the end of triple deluxe and he can pack a punch in star allies with his magic! If you're going to write about him prove that you don't just know about the guy from twitter artwork!

Random Kirby Headcanon #21

The Kirby cast have all sorts of nicknames for each other.

When he was very young, the Animal Friends would refer to Kirby as ‘Twinkle,’ ‘Popopo,’ and ‘Kiddo.’ They’ll still actually do so sometimes if they’re feeling particularly sentimental.

For a long while Dedede exclusively referred to Kirby as things such as ‘Squirt’ and ‘Punk,’ but now that they’re friendly rivals he mostly calls him stuff like ‘Kirb’ or ‘Kirbster.’

Susie, obviously, refers to Kirby as ‘Pinky.’ Similarly, she refers to Meta Knight as ‘Navy’ sometimes as an extended play on that. He seems to be much less accepting of it, though.

In general, Meta Knight just does not really like nicknames. Despite this, oftentimes Dedede and Magolor simply call him ‘Meta,’ disregarding his repeated insistence they use his full title.

Dedede doesn’t have any nicknames, really, but sometimes Bandee refers to him as ‘Sire.’

Waddle Dees traditionally don’t even technically have names, so ‘Bandana Waddle Dee’ and ‘Bandee’ are nicknames in and of themselves, originally given to Bandee by King Dedede.

The other Animal Friends sometimes refer to Coo as ‘Birdbrain’ when he’s being particularly stubborn.

Back when Kirby first met Nago, Pitch and Chuchu, he addressed them solely by ‘Kitty,’ ‘Birdie,’ and ‘Squishy’ before he actually learned their names.

Marx loves to come up with ‘extensions’ for Gooey’s name. His favorite by far though is ‘Goobert.’

The Animal Friends refer to Marx by various clown names such as ‘Pagliacci’ and ‘Pennywise.’

Francisca refers to Marx as ‘Marxie.’ I think there’s a hilarious juxtaposition to be found in her referring to him by a cutesy name while full-well knowing he’s a sicko and in fact enjoying his company because of it.

For a while, Elfilin called Adeleine ‘Miss Human’ until she told him it was alright to use her name.

Daroach and Adeleine both refer to Dark Meta Knight as simply ‘Dark.’

Susie refers to Dark Meta Knight exclusively as ‘Edgelord.’

Dark Meta Knight calls Daroach ‘Rat.’ This is out of endearment… probably.

Marx and Dedede both refer to Magolor as ‘Mags.’ Zan Partizanne has also blessed him with the generous nickname of ‘Deceptive Egg.’

Flamberge calls Taranza ‘Spider-man,’ and later, once she realizes just how much of a softie he is, ‘Lovebug,’

She also calls Magolor ‘Catboy’ and Susie ‘Pinky,’ the latter of which Susie hates. Not only is it higly unprofessional, but that’s a nickname she already gave Kirby! Flamberge can’t just copy her.

In general, Susie does not like nicknames. This does not stop Magolor from regularly referring to her as ‘Suz,’ though.

Back when she was in her right mind, Joronia would sometimes sarcastically call Taranza ‘Peasant Boy’ because of his status as a commoner. Initially, this was probably meant to be insulting, but as their friendship deepened it became a vessel for affectionate teasing.

Francisca is sometimes referred to as just Fran or Franny by her sisters. Similarly, Flamberge is sometimes just Flam or Berge.

Francisca and Flamberge are the ONLY people allowed to call Zan Partizanne simply ‘Zan.’ Everyone else is expected to use her full name lest they receive a spear to the face.

Magolor, of course, does not heed this advice though, and incessantly refers to her as ‘Zan Parmesan.’ At this point it’s almost just Their Thing, though— pretending not to know each others names, that is. It’d be weird if he stopped.

Magolor calls Hyness ‘Blanket George.’ The first time he said it was before they fought him— which is to say before he knew Hyness was an Ancient, and he meant it in a pejorative manner. But after Hyness was purified, he still remembered it, to Magolor’s horror. Thankfully, though, he found it funny, and was in fact quite happy to receive a nickname, so Magolor’s kept it up.

Last night I wrote a fanfic for the first time, figured I might as well post it here (fanfic under cut)

Midnight Pie

Bandee sat on his bed, staring out the window at the night sky beyond. “Another sleepless night . . .” He mumbled to himself. They’d become more frequent lately, ever since the Jambadrans defeat. It’s been weeks now, but there was one thing he still couldn’t get out of his mind: the grinning, hollow face of void, a mockery of Kirby, his dearest friend. Speaking of . . . Bandee glanced at the phone sitting on his side table. ”Maybe talking to him would clear my mind” he thought as he started to reach for the phone before stopping. “No, he’s probably asleep” he let his nub fall back to his side, and turned his gaze back to the sky outside. His thoughts swirled round in long worn paths, trying already used keys on a locked door, before a sudden recollection stopped them. “Wasn’t there still apple pie leftover from dinner?” A smile flitted across the young dee’s face at the thought of his favorite food. “Might as well” he said to himself as he hopped off his bed and headed to the door.

“The castle always feels lonely at night”, the dee thought as he walked down the dim corridors down to the kitchen. He far preferred it at day, with all the other dees bustling about. The dark made him anxious, bringing up bad memories. He shuddered, and tried to push those thoughts away. “No need to think about that” he told himself, before coming to a stop as he noticed someone walking down the hallway ahead. “It can’t be his majesty, it’s too small,” Bandee thought as he observed the figure “and it’s the wrong shape for a dee. Could it be . . .” “Sir Meta Knight?” he called down the corridor. The figure stopped, and the glowing yellow eyes as he turned to face the dee confirmed his identity. “What are you doing here so late?” The dee said, hurriedly walking to join the knight. “I could say the same for you” Meta Knight replied “I’d expect you to be sleeping”. “I was just getting a snack” Bandee said, not wanting to mention the real reason he was awake, “Do you want to come with?” The swordsman seemed to hesitate for a moment, and then nodded. “I don’t see the harm.” The dee gave a small smile as way of reply, then started again on to the kitchen, Meta Knight following close.

Bandee squinted against the light as he opened the refrigerator door. His eyes searched the shelves, before coming to rest on the pie tin he was looking for. “Do you want some?” he asked the knight sitting at the nearby table “there’s enough for both of us”. Meta Knight paused for a moment, as if considering the offer. “Don’t tell anyone” He told the dee “but yes”. Bandee held back a giggle as he pulled a pair of plates out of a cupboard “Why would I want to tell anyone? It’s not like I’d get anything from it”. “Can’t be too careful” the knight replied stiffly as he watched the dee cut two slices of the pie and carefully place them on the plates. “I’ll go get some forks” Bandee said as he started toward a drawer. “No” Meta Knight replied, “I’ll get them. You go ahead and take a seat”. He fished out two forks at random and walked back to the table. Passing one to the dee, the knight pulled up his mask and started to eat. Bandee followed suit, enjoying the sweet taste of each bite. But . . . “Sir Meta Knight?” the swordsman paused mid bite, and turned to look at him. “I . . wasn’t entirely honest about why I was up earlier” Bandee whispered, staring at his plate. “Oh?” the knight blinked. Bandee wasn’t prone to discretion. “I’ve . . . I’ve been having a lot of sleepless nights recently. Ever since what happened . . . in there. Inside Void Termina” the young dee’s voice started to waver, “I can’t seem to get it’s face out of my head”. “Oh . . . I see” Meta Knight whispered. Why was he taken back? It had been unsettling for everyone, seeing that . . . thing mimicking Kirby’s face. “I understand,” he told the dee, extending a wing comfortingly around him, “It shook me too”. “Really?” Bandee looked at the swordsman in surprise. “Really” Meta Knight nodded, “But while I can’t tell you why it chose to mimick Kirby, I do know it’s gone now”. “Let’s hope” Bandee replied quietly, and took another bite of pie. Meta Knight gave a small smile, and turned his attention back to his piece.

“You know you don’t have to walk me back to my room, sir Meta Knight” Bandee whispered as the two walked again down the castle’s quiet corridors. “Perhaps,” the swordsman replied, face once again covered by his mask “But I’ll do so anyways”. The dee began to reply, but whatever it was was interrupted by a yawn. “Excuse me,” he laughed, rubbing at an eye “I guess my exhaustion’s catching up to me”. Meta Knight nodded in agreement “Try and get some sleep tonight”. “I’ll try.” Bandee said, before stopping outside of his door. The knight started to turn back, but then “Sir Meta Knight?” “Hmm?” the swordsman turned back to the dee standing in the doorway. “Thank you for keeping me company” Bandee whispered, before turning and stepping back into his room. The knight stood there as the door closed, before smiling under his mask, “It was my pleasure, Bandee”. Then he turned and walked back down the dark corridor, hoping that maybe now, Bandee will sleep a little more peacefully.

Okay! Remember how I said the game events happened in some of our AU's, Planet Robobot included? Well, I wrote a small thing. This is a small story regarding Susie meeting Tiff. It's under the cut! ^^

“Poyo!” Kirby jumped up and began running off. Tiff sighed and followed him. This wasn’t uncommon, but it was tiring. He had been running around all day. At this point she was hoping Meta Knight would show up so she could tell him to keep an eye on the puffball. He was good at keeping him still. Kirby ran into the town and squeaked as he nearly ran into a cappy. He briefly waved and continued to wherever he was going, which was apparently the large tree. There was a small crowd of cappies and Kirby slowed down until he stopped, staring at the person they were talking to. She didn’t recognize her, not that she had much time to think on it before Kirby made a high pitched squeak that sounded sort of like a name and ran at her full speed.

The lady turned and seemed to brighten up once she realized who he was. “Hello, Kirby!”

“Poyo!” He jumped up and hugged her. She sighed and put him back on the ground.

“It’s been a while, hasn’t it?”

“Poy!” He nodded.

“You know her, Kirby?” The mayor looked at him.

“Poyo Suey!”

“Susie.” The lady looked back at the cappies. “Does Kirby live here?”

“Yes, he sure does.”

“Poyo, poyo poy!” Kirby grabbed Susie’s hand and started trying to lead her, pointing at Tiff.

“Alright, calm down, pinky. Where are we going?”

“Poyo Tiff!”

Susie stared at her for a few moments, then seemed to realize what Kirby was trying to do. “Oh! Hello, I’m Susie! Are you Kirby’s friend?”

“Yea. He seemed to know you well.” She wasn’t sure how to respond to this.

“Sorta.” She shrugged. “We’ve helped each other out in the past.”

“Poyo!” Kirby hugged Tiff.

“So uh… what’s your name? I’m sure he’s already said it, but he’s not the most coherent.”

“Tiff. When did he meet you? I assume it would have had to have been during one of his space journeys.” She picked him up as he started hopping and making small squeaks.

“Oh, a while ago!” Susie laughed as if it didn’t matter. “Yes, we were in space when we met.”

“And you’re… friends?”

“Ye!”

“We sure are!”

“...Alright.” Kirby wasn’t as gullible as he was when she first met him, that was difficult to remember. She’d trust his judgment on this one. “So why are you here?”

“I simply enjoy learning about anything I can! I wanted to see what Kirby’s home was like.”

“I see.”

“Speaking of which, what are those uh…” She waved towards the cappies, who were keeping an eye on her, clearly curious. “Those guys?”

“Cappies.”

“I see. What other creatures live here?”

“Wildlife, I guess… There’s king Dedede and Escragoon. And whatever I am.”

“You don’t know what you are?”

She shook her head.

“What are Dedede and Escargoon?”

“A penguin and a snail. There’s a few others as well, but I don’t know what they are either.” She shrugged.

“Is it peaceful here?”

“Mostly, when random people aren’t attacking or trying to take over.”

“Does that happen often?”

“More often than I’d like…”

“I see.” She was writing something on her clipboard, then appeared thoughtful. “Say, you’re good friends with Kirby, correct?”

“Yes, why?”

“Do you know what he is? Like, what is his species called?”

“Puffballs, I think.”

“Ye! Puffball!”

“Interesting… Now, I’ve heard Kirby has been referred to as a Star Warrior. Care to explain what that is?”

“Do you know who Nightmare is?” It would be pretty difficult to explain everything if she didn’t.

“I know of him, I’ve never met him.”

“That’s probably for the best.” She shrugged. “Star Warriors fought against him.”

“Ah, I see. That makes sense!”

She watched her write on her clipboard some more. She’d have given more details, but it was Meta Knight who had given her the information she had to begin with, and he had made it beyond clear, indirectly of course, that he didn’t like strangers knowing too much about that. Although if this person had met Kirby, she’d likely have met Meta Knight as well.

“Nightmare’s dead now, correct?”

“Yes.”

“So do you think other Star Warriors can still be born?”

“I don’t know. Probably.” That was actually a good question. Arthur had told her that Star Warriors had existed before Nightmare caused the war. However, Meta Knight had implied he’d waited decades for another Star Warrior to appear, so the rate at which they were being born had clearly dropped while Nightmare was still around. He may have been the reason for it, maybe killing most of them off had some sort of effect on it. Maybe Star Warriors were born as a defense against people like Nightmare? It’s not his existence dictated whether or not they did. “...I think… They can… but it’s rare now.”

“Really? Why is that?”

“I don’t know, maybe Nightmare did something… I don’t even know if I’m right, you’d have to ask someone else. Sorry.”

“I understand.” She wrote something down. “You seem pretty smart for your age.”

She shrugged. “Either that or the rest of the town is unfathomably idiotic.”

“Are there any teachers here? Schools?”

“I’d like there to be.” She sighed. “Unfortunately we’re ruled by a fool and I know maybe one cappy who is capable of teaching anyone anything. Usually I’m the one who tries to teach their kids but… it’s been rather unsuccessful…”

“That’s unfortunate. So I take it that cappies aren’t the smartest beings?”

“They try. I guess that’s all I can ask from them.”

“Poyo.” Kirby gave her some pats as if to cheer her up.

“Well, then I supposed it’s a good thing there are Star Warriors here to defend-”

“What the fuck are you doing here?”

Tiff looked at the tree, Meta Knight was there, glaring at Susie with his sword pointed at her. That was… a bad sign to say the least.

“Meta! It’s been-”

“Do not call me that!” He jumped down, keeping a bit of distance between them and forming his cape into wings, lifting them to hide Tiff and Kirby from her line of sight. “You have no right to be here!”

“Tch, so aggressive.” She rolled her eyes. “I have every right to be here, I’m Kirby’s friend.”

“Why are you talking to the child?”

“Tiff?”

“No, the fucking alligator!”

Tiff backed away. This was the most angry she’d seen him. He’d been aggressive before during other incidents on Popstar, but he’d never yelled at anyone like that, or acted as if he was facing a monster. Not to mention, forming his wings was something he rarely did. He never used them around Nightmare, granted Falspar had told her he had a reason for it. Susie would have had to do something horrid for him to be acting like this.

“Kirby introduced me to her, I was merely curious about-”

“Curious?” He hissed, flaring out his wings more. Kirby tried to jump down, but she held onto him, feeling more than concerned.

“Calm down. I was curious about this planet, not the kid.”

“I’m sure you were! You’ve done enough! Leave!”

“I don’t think I will. I’ll have you know that since taking over the company, there have been zero mechanization projects.” She crossed her arms, closing her eyes as if that information was supposed to calm him down.

“Well, isn’t that great! You can keep it like that and leave!”

“Kirby, do you want me to leave? I feel Meta’s acting a bit-”

“Do not talk to him!”

“He’s my friend.”

“He is not!”

“Medi-poyo..!”

“I thought you were over it.”

“How in the fuck did you come to that conclusion?”

“You didn’t seem too angry when you showed up with the Halberd.” She shrugged. “I thought you were over it.”

“One, when there’s a giant clock that you sent to destroy our goddamn planet running off, I’m going to be just a little bit focused on that! Two, No, I’m not fucking over it!”

“My mistake.”

“Get the fuck out of here!”

At that point, the cappies that were already watching had backed away, and others had stopped to stare. Tiff wasn’t sure what to do. Kirby suddenly puffed and jumped away from her, running in front of Meta Knight and holding his arms out. “Poyo! Suey gud poy!”

“She is not good now.” He was clearly trying to keep himself from yelling. “The only reason she helped you was because it was in her best interest.”

“Poyo poy poyo!”

“Kirby, I don’t blame Meta for being so angry with me.” Susie shrugged. “I’m not surprised that my presence concerns him.”

“Don’t call me that!”

“Would you rather Mecha Knight?”

He suddenly hissed and swung his sword down, launching a sword beam at her and knocking Kirby aside with his other hand. Susie had just barely managed to avoid the attack, suddenly looking a lot less casual about the situation. Tiff ran forward and grabbed Kirby, picking him up and quickly backing away again. Meta Knight was shaking, likely from anger, and it was freaking her out. Kirby quieted down as well, staring wide-eyed at the damage caused by the attack. Luckily, it had barely missed the houses, taking a small bit of the roof off of one. Susie looked a bit concerned.

Then she laughed. “I forgot you could do that. Are you done now? I’d like to have a reasonable discussion with you.”

“You’ve thrown that opportunity away a long time ago!” He took a step towards her. Galaxia was glowing and sparking excessively. Galacta had mentioned her habit of creating small static shocks in response to Meta Knight’s anger. She’d seen it before multiple times, even when Nightmare had appeared directly in front of the battleship before luring Kirby into a battle. Apparently it was harmless, but he’d said the more it sparked, the angrier he was. She couldn’t remember why he’d told her that, she might’ve asked about it, or he might’ve brought it up and ended up explaining the whole thing to her.

“Alright, I understand. You’re upset and you don’t want me near anyone, but Kirby could easily overpower me if it came down to it so-”

“I don’t give a fuck! Stay away from the children!”

“I’m not here to mechanize anything-”

“Then leave!”

“Meta-”

“If you call me that one more time, I will stab you!”

“I heavily doubt you’d come anywhere near me.”

He hissed in response.

“Poyo…” Kirby jumped away again. It was a little irritating being unable to keep him still. He ran back towards Meta Knight and put a hand on his sword. “No.”

“Back away, Kirby.”

“Now that you’re a little incapable of doing immediate damage, will you listen?”

“Never.”

“I don’t want to cause harm. I simply want to apologize for everything. I was simply following orders-”

“You made it very clear to me that what you did had nothing to do with orders!”

“Well, I lied. I was ordered to stop Kirby from getting to far by any means necessary and-”

“You told me you did it because you were curious and it just happened to align with your goal! Don’t you fucking dare lie to me!”

“...Okay, you got me there, but look, is it so much to ask that you calm down and let me be friends with Kirby?”

“Yes!”

“Rude.”

“Poyo poy!” Kirby tried to pull Galaxia away from him, with no success.

“...Kirby, come here..!” Tiff called to him, keeping her distance.

“No, poyo Medi-poyo poy Suey!”

Meta Knight looked at him.

“Poyo..?”

He hissed and pulled the sword away from the small child, putting it back into its sheath and glaring at Susie. “If you threaten or harm any of them at all, I will kill you.” He kept his voice low, but failed to hide his anger.

“Well, I have a tazer so I doubt you’ll do much, but sure.” She shrugged.

Meta Knight hissed again, letting his wings fall back into his cape and wrapping himself up tightly. His eyes were red, not a color she saw often.

“I’m joking, I won’t taze you.” She laughed. “And I’ll make sure I do no harm to anyone or anything!”

“Good.”

“Poyo..!” Kirby smiled and ran towards her, then grabbed her hand and began leading her through the town. Meta Knight followed at a distance, his eyes turning back to normal. Tiff waited a moment, then ran towards him.

“What did she do?”

“Don’t worry about it.” He still sounded as if he’d like to tear the lady’s head off. Best not to ask any more questions on that topic.

“Why’d you calm down?”

“I didn’t.” He hissed. “Kirby was upset. Besides, he’s capable of handling himself. He’s beaten her before, along with multiple… weapons.” There was obviously more meaning to than word that he’d like to discuss. “For now, I’ll keep an eye on her. If she proves that she is not here to cause harm, I may consider leaving her alone.”

“So you’re giving her a chance because Kirby wanted you to?”

“...Yes.”

“Alright.”

“Do not go near her by yourself.” That was clearly a serious warning. “And do not listen to a word she says.”

“I won’t.” She glanced at Kirby, happily leading Susie around and pointing at random buildings. “Especially after that… introduction…”

“Forget that happened.” He was beginning to sound like he was calming down, but knowing him, he was likely just trying to hide his anger. One of his specialities was always appearing calm, even under intense circumstances. It could be either incredibly useful or painfully annoying.

“...How long are you gonna keep an eye on her?”

“Until I’m confident she can be trusted alone.”

“And then what?”

“I trust Kirby’s judgment.” He sighed. “Nothing she does will get past him.”

// Meta Knight will change his mind about anything if it makes Kirby happy. Sorry to those who like the idea of Susie being friends with Meta Knight but I like him to suffer so she sort of tortured him during the mechanization thing. Also I know I spelled tazer/taze wrong but I hate the actual spelling so you'll have to live with that lmao. Susie does end up spending a bit of time on Popstar. And maybe meeting some other game bois but that's a story for some other time! Meta will get to the point of trusting her unsupervised but that doesn't mean he'll stop hating her beyond words. Tiff is so offput by this whole thing. It bothers her to no end. //

Dazor - Well, the easiest friend for him to get along with would probably be Kirby, once Dazor realizes Kirby’s not going to backstab him at first opportunity. Gooey and Elfilin he'd be close with too, Dazor appreciates that despite their dark origins, they got good hearts (even if Gooey is quite scatter-brained). I can’t see him getting along with Zan though - her refusal to respect anyone beyond her circle (and eventually Kirby) would absolutely rub him the wrong way. DMK he’d try to avoid. Daroach he just wants to sTOP TRYING TO STEAL HIS STUFF, thank you very much. He and Magolor don’t like each other too much either - Dazor dislikes Magolor’s mischief and over-the-top, un-genuine nature (not to mention his infamous betrayal), and Magolor would think Dazor’s too boring and that it’s a shame he won’t share any Ancient related knowledge. In a similar vein, Dazor would… not get along with Marx, to say the least. For the other friends, Dazor would be on positive or at least neutral terms.

Ao-Yong - Their laidback nature would allow them to get along with just (or at least avoid conflict with) about all of the dream friends. They probably wouldn’t be too fond of Susie though, while they can sympathize with her struggles caused by the Ancients' legacy, they find it much harder to sympathize with the part of colonizing and destroying others' lives for her and her company benefit, having seen that story play out time and time again.

Ky: *Struggling to think here* I can see them enjoying sparring with Meta Knight and the Mage Sisters! I'd also see them being interested in Elfilin given their connection to Elfilis.

🎶- Oh god, this is probably one of the harder questions for me bc my brain just... doesn't really connect music with my ocs? But I do got a few things:

Dazor - The first song is the Aviary Village shop theme from Sky: Children of the Light. It's a relaxing, peaceful song associated with rebuilding and renewal, which is great for Dazor's story. And the second song - whiplash incoming - is Hell’s comin’ with me - Poor Man’s Poison. Pro tip: Dazor is a people-pleaser, he's conflict-avoidant and would rather not fight, much less kill. But if you choose to hurt him or his loved ones, he WILL remember, and he will NOT forget (This will be plot relevant down the line).

Ao-Yong - Their battle theme would probably be heavily based off of Landia's theme and, I don't know, Sekiro's Divine Dragon and/or Elden Ring's Elden Beast. A regal, alien, powerful theme that tells you that you should not be fighting them.

Ky - they can have a leifmotif/theme based off Landia's theme and/or Two Planets Approach the Roche Limit due to the connections with their owners, maybe more the latter since Ao has the stronger connection to Landia here.

🍅 (Tomato) - If Kirby absorbed them or their attacks, what Copy Ability [or Abilities] would he get? Alternatively, if they themselves are capable of using the Copy Ability, do they have a favourite?

Hara:

Well, Hara isn’t able to use Copy Magic, even though she is a Soul Matter Astral — it’s a very rare form of magic, and hardly any Astrals even in her time had it.

But if Kirby absorbed a Copy Essence from her… the ability would depend on what attack he’s absorbing for it.

Most of her attacks would give them Tornado, I think. In all honesty, i haven’t actually thought about this aspect yet, so I’m not 100% on what Ability she’d grant, but she seems like a windy type.

…If Kirby absorbed some of her raw, unformed Soul Magic, it’d give him invincibility for about 5 seconds. Soul Magic by itself in its raw form is incredibly powerful, hence all the greatest recorded Heroes of Yore have been Soul-Matters. Three of them had Copy Magic, including Kirby and… the first.

Auberon:

Again, even though he’s a Soul-Matter, he cannot use Copy Magic. Astrals are an endangered species on their own, but Soul-Matters are especially so because of the possibility of them wielding Copy Magic. They were explicitly hunted by some people back in the day, but the hunters have since been taken care of.

Anyway, when it comes to what Abilities Aubs would give, it again depends on what attack Kirby is absorbing from them.

Probably Fire or Spark, since Aubs usually attacks using his sword.

⚡️(Lightning Bolt) - Which Power Effects [Blizzard, Bluster, Sizzle, Slash, Zap] would their attacks grant? Do they have any particular weaknesses or resistances, elemental or otherwise?

Hara:

Because absorbing a normal attack from her would give Tornado, they’d probably give the Bluster effect to Kirby’s weapons.

Unless, that is, she’s using raw Soul Magic. That would grant Sizzle.

She’d likely be weak to most close-range attacks (like Finishing/Final Cutter, can’t remember exactly what it’s called), since she usually resorts to long-range battle. And for elemental weaknesses, I’d say Electricity would mess her up good. I don’t suggest attacking her, though. Gala will kill you for it.

Auberon:

His attacks would grant Sizzle or Zap effects, depending on what attack it is!

And he’d be weak to Water. Typical catboy.

🩷(Pink Heart) - If they were a Dream Friend, what would their moveset be like? How much HP do they have? Would they be a strong attacker, or would they take on more of a support role?

Hara:

Eh… she wouldn’t be the best Dream Friend, at least during the events of Soul Journey. She’s very much falling to her corruption, and it takes a god damn lot of willpower to remain sentient at her level of corruption, so she’d be relatively weak. It’d be like having a walking Glunk as an ally, or Splatoon 3 Side Order’s Pearl Drone with no upgrades except one (1) Drone Burst Bomb colour chip.

Sorry, Hara. I love you lots, but you are not built for fighting anymore.

Auberon:

His moveset… it’d probably be sort of similar to Meta Knight’s, but more powerful. Maybe with a few of Dameta’s moveset aspects? Oh, and they’d do Fire and Electricity easily.

He’d have a solid amount of HP as well. They’re a tough nut to crack! Unless you have a spray bottle full of water.

And yes, he would be one hell of an attacker! Their DPS would go off the charts in battle! Like, think a team of Flamberge and three Sizzle Dametas in Ultimate Choice. No one would survive.

RETURN TO DREAMLAND DELUXE PRE-RELEASE ANALYSIS

aka: i’m going nuts over scraps and i’m making it everyone else’s problem

first off! to get this out of the way quickly:

additional Challenges! we’ve only seen the new Sand Challenge so far, but i don’t see why there couldn’t be more.

also worth nothing is that the Whip Challenge’s ‘cost’ has been increased from 25 to 30 Energy Spheres. this may mean that the Sand Challenge has taken its original unlock condition of 25? I’m not too sure about that, though. all we know for sure is that it unlocks somewhere between 7 and 30 Spheres.

and now... the mask stuff. this will get long.

so, we know there’s 86 masks available, 17 of which are shown above. several others have been shown, both openly AND in Samurai Kirby 100 footage!

Susie- she’s the only Dream Friend we haven’t seen a mask of yet, and I doubt they’d leave her out.

Pitch. no way they’d include Chuchu and Nago but not him.

Nyupun, Shiro, and Pitch Mama- if they’re including Pick and Mine as well as Chuchu and Nago, I don’t see why all the other Animal Friend counterparts wouldn’t be here also.

Sphere Doomers, Metal General and Landia- it’d be weird if they didn’t include these two along with the other level bosses.

HR-D3 and Galacta Knight- not super likely, given they only show up in optional modes, but I feel like they’re possible.

Magolor’s other forms- I’m not sure if these are more or less likely than the prior two, but I want this guess out there. Made more plausible by the fact other characters (Coo, Dedede) have more than one mask.

EX forms of the other bosses- This one... feels like a guarantee to me. shame, because I was really hoping we’d get masks for the Magolor Epilogue equivalents instead, but with how different the bosses we’ve seen so far look, I doubt Whispy Woods EX would be included alongside them...

Kirby and the Forgotten Land Dialogue and Miscellaneous Translations

It’s been a month since Kirby and the Forgotten Land came out, and after translating all the Gotcha figure descriptions, this will be my last post, covering important dialogue in the game, as well as all the level, music, and cutscene names.

As always, the purpose of posts like this is to highlight mistakes and changes in the English localization in the game, which persist despite Kumazaki’s efforts to work with the localization teams, as evidenced by missing and misinterpreted information in the Gotcha Figure descriptions.

( 完全なおすがた might make more sense as ‘completed form’ than perfect appearance)

かつて、この地に住んでいた者たちはこのお方からキセキの力をさずかり… The ones formerly living in this land were blessed with the power of miracles from this honorable one…

キセキの力 is the same term that would be used in Chaos Elfilis’s figure description to describe Kirby.

その力でかなた夢の大地へと飛び立っていったのだ。 They flew off to a distant land of dreams with that power.

このお方が完全なおすがたにもどられれば… If we can recover the perfect appearance of this honorable one…

この忘れられし大地に残されたわれらにも、キセキの力をおあたえくださるだろう。 We will be gifted the power of miracles, and we too can leave this forgotten land.

そして… ついにその時が来たのだ！ And now… The time has finally come!

そうだ、この小さき者こそ… うしなわれた、かたわれなのだ！ That’s right, this little one is… the other half that was lost!

The first few buildings had just gone up when the animals—now called the Beast Pack—found us.

We fought as hard as we could, but in the end, the town was destroyed…and everyone got captured…

That’s when you dropped in, Kirby!

Thank you so much for saving me back then. I’m so glad I met you…

I hope we can go on another adventure someday!

My power to create vortices isn’t very strong, but I can open one to Planet Popstar anytime.

時にはケンカしちゃったりいろいろあったんだけど… Occasionally there was arguing and other things but…

みんなでたべものをわけあったりしてがんばってくらしていたんだ。 We were sharing food and doing our best to get along.

そんなある日、あのレオンガルフがきゅうにおそろしいリーダーになって… Then one day, Leongarf suddenly became a terrifying leader…

(In the English description, Elfilin describes Leongar like he didn’t know who Leon was when he suddenly rose to power. However, as per the Leon & Carol figure description in both English and Japanese, Leon & Carol were already the famous leaders of the animals. So the English version of this line contradicts the figure, but here in Japanese, all he says is that Leongar suddenly became a bad leader, not that he suddenly rose to power.)

それからみんなもすごくらんぼうものになっちゃったんだ。 After that, everyone became extremely violent people.

ボクこわくなって、長いあいだかくれていたんだけど… そこにワドルディたちが１人、２人とこの世界にまよいこんできたんだ。 I got scared, so I went into hiding for a long time, but… Then, one or two Waddle Dees started wandering into this world.

こまっていたワドルディたちと話しあって、あんぜんな草原に町づくりをはじめたんだよ。 After talking with the troubled Waddle Dees, we began town planning in the grasslands for safety.

けど、さいしょの町がりっぱになってきたころ、あのアニマルたちが、きょうぼうなビースト軍団となってせめてきたんだ！ But when the first town was getting good, those animals, they attacked us as the frenzied Beast corps!

みんなでたたかっていたんだけどさいごには町もこわされ、みんなもさらわれちゃって… Everyone fought, but in the end, the town was still demolished, and everyone was kidnapped…

そこへキミが、カービィがきてくれたんだ！ Then you, Kirby, came!

あの時はたすけてくれてホントありがとう！キミに出会えて、ボクとってもうれしいよ。 Thank you so much for rescuing me that time! I’m so happy I met you.

A more normal way to spell Forgotten in Japanese could be フォーガットン fo-gatton, though other ways like フォーゴトン fo-goton フォゴトゥン fogotoun have been used too.

(Frankly the simple dictionary definition wording is really confusing imo but Neoteny is when an organism has accelerated sexual development/delayed somatic development, such as humans which retain juvenile traits like not having a full body of hair in adulthood like most primates, or axolotl which reach sexual maturity and never undergo metamorphosis to exit the larval stage of an amphibian… so technically the English translation is saying the exact opposite of the Japanese if we were to go by the scientific definition :P

So basically when the dictionary definition says ‘retention of juvenile features in an adult animal’ remember that adult in biology means sexual maturity. Though I don’t really think Kuma really understood this term past ‘fancy biology term for how axolotls reach adulthood while still being a larva’ considering uh… literally every aspect of Forgo’s physiology transforms. Into goo.

Perhaps the ability to turn into goo is the juvenile feature of Elfilis’s species that normally goes away in adulthood. But Forgo is like…an atrophied form of the original invader anyway right, so what does it even mean for him to be a ‘larva’ anyway… Or was Elfilis not his original form but instead just an adult body, while he invaded in his larval stages? Who knows.

I have no idea what this Japanese title actually means. The furigana given for 獅子叢 is ししむら, so 叢/むら I think is an alternative kanji for 群 ‘gather’

Edit: While I did originally consider looking for alternate meanings of shishimura and found 肉叢 which also uses the 叢 kanji, I ignored it since I couldn’t derive any meaning from the dictionary definition I was given, ‘a lump of meat’, or ‘body/flesh’. However, I’ve asked Falco who says he’s talked with Jp people who thought it might be a pun on this term, and on re-evaluation I guess the point would be to hear it as ‘roar of a muscular body’. But this term is super uncommon so I don’t know if that’s the case.

I also looked into the Chinese localization as Asian localizations are directly translated from Japanese instead of being translated from the English localization, and they did translate 獅子叢 as basically meaning ‘a pride of lions’ (狮群), a translation I did originally consider, to just be referring to the Beast Pack which Leongar leads as a lion, but thought it was too much of a stretch. But it seems it really is the case if that’s how the Chinese translation interpreted it as well.

時ドキ tokidoki is a pun on 時々tokidoki meaning occasionally, and ドキドキ dokidoki, being the sound a thumping heart, as per the name of the normal tour track, ドキドキ発見ドリームツアー dokidoki hakken doriimu tsuaa which I translated as Heart-Pounding Discoveries Dream Tour earlier. Funnily enough, ドキドキ is ignored in the name of the cutscene and music track, being just The Dream Discoveries Tour, but in both the actual tour dialogue and the name of this track, ドキドキ is translated as Thrilling. Perhaps it’d be better to word this as The Occasional Echo of the Heart-Pounding Eternal Tour-our to keep the echo at the end.

(The translation of the song title as Under My Control rather than I Will Rule doesn’t actually fit the way the sentence is worded though, it’s like “Yes, I will rule starting from your star... Popstar! There’s a bit more nuance to this title, Shihai Shite Ageruyo, where Shite Ageru is used when the speaker is doing something as a favor for someone, so Magolor is saying he will take control as a favor to you)

Do you think that if the Kirby series were to end Galactica Knight would be the final boss?

Full disclosure, Galactica/Galacta Knight is low on my list of favorite Kirby characters, so I don't often have a lot of interesting things to say about them and it may not all be up to date...also, Galacta's lore is HARD TO FOLLOW! Damn you, and your status as canonically being without canon appearances!!

That said...I think a -true- (canon) fight with Galacta Knight is inevitable at some point. Despite Galacta's MiA status after the first Morpho Knight incident, I think Galacta is hardly out of the picture for good...

I don't think Galacta would be the proper way to end the series however. (Kirby will clearly have it out with Twinkle Popo as the penultimate last boss - kidding!!) This is mostly because Galacta Knight has been, well...Galacta has always seemed to me to be portrayed as pretty close to FRAMED - if not by anyone particular group (although the Ancients are a good bet) then by history, at least.

And modern Kirby would not have the final battle come down to putting down someone who was vilified because they were misunderstood, regardless of how aggressive they are now....!

:thinks back across the various games:

...Okay, well it might, actually. But they wouldn’t END THE SERIES on that!

Anyway, Kirby fights people who are in the wrong until they either stop doing wrong or have to -be- stopped. Galacta Knight has only lashed out (incredibly violently) at people who attempted to use Galacta as a tiny, orb-shaped nuke for their own purposes...well, and those in the nearby vicinity.

"But such is life."

(Speaking of using Galacta, good job summoning them out of nowhere just so you could beat up this crystalized orb while explaining nothing to them to prove you were the best in the galaxy, META KNIGHT! ...I tease, I love you.)

And we can't forget, Galacta Knight was once on the drawing board as a potential Dream Friend (!!) before they decided to limit it down to one friend per mainline game. Had that idealized "we have all the time and budget in the world" version of Star Allies come out, we'd all be drawing Galacta Knight drinking hot chocolate with marshmallows in it side by side with the other friends while wondering if they'll ever add Galacta Knight in as an optional Player 2 mode for Forgotten Land as DLC!

...I honestly think Kirby is a series that will never have a “Final Game” built from the ground up with the intent of ending the series. It may (inevitably...) have a last game, sure. But think of Kirby Star Allies, which gave us the (frightening) impression it was going to be the last. And in fact, it had a really thematic end. It might have had a rough opening, but with the added content, most could hardly complain that was a bad celebration of the puffball’s legacy!

...But then Kirby returned for Forgotten Land!! Some of us (....me...) even fearfully speculated that Kirby might have left Dream Land for good after Star Allies and crashed on the Forgotten Land after resuming their wandering ways! But nope. The pink puff was back at home, enjoying the familiar spring breeze.

Now, Director Kumazaki certainly set up Galacta Knight to be something special. But he has set up other things too. And they all seem to be paying off...if slowly. Maybe rather than being a last boss, there will come a time when things are looking tough for our heroes when suddenly...the aloof knight actually swoops in to assist?! How can this be, when you had been enemies but a battle or two prior?! (Although even I can admit, Galacta immediately turning on you after such a grandiose battle is equally viable. It really depends on if there's anything left in Galacta Knight that Kirby might reach. And when.)

As for my personal opinion? I...don’t want the franchise to end with Galacta Knight. I don’t consider them super well developed or interesting at present, and “strongest in the universe” isn’t that appealing of a character trait for me. It feels like a “power levels” thing and I don’t care about power levels.

The fallen hero stuff IS interesting. I do want to see more of that. Right now it just feels...almost too between the lines? (Also, I was burned by a similarly set-up character in an older fandom, lalala....)

I don’t love characters who are “canonically” overpowered either. (Aka, we are informed by the narrative <cough> Star Dream <cough> they are over-powered.) To me, Galacta hasn’t done anything to prove this, showing up only as a post-game fight, losing, and then leaving again. It’s the danger with including a “total badass” you do nothing but fight. Use them too much and they end up with more losses on their record than moments of awesomeness. And the fact that Galacta’s last appearance was getting eaten by Morpho didn’t help things...!

In any case, Galacta just hasn’t won me over. And it’s hard to champion them as a character that way. It’s possible, certainly, but until that day when they pick up some real in-game pathos (and a more solidified personality/backstory I can dig into) my favorite pink orb with wings remains Angel Kirby!

The small fact that the fighter flavor text in star allies has Kirby speaking is really interesting to me. Does this happen outside of star allies? If so, which abilities? I hope this isn't to much trouble to ask.

It’s no trouble at all ^^

That being said, I don’t really got all the Japanese in-game descriptions of the copy abilities memorized, so I could easily miss some details.

It’s also sometimes hard to tell?

You see, in Japanese it’s pretty common to just drop the subject of a sentence, depending on the context, that’s just how the language works - and a result, a lot of video game narration can feel a bit vague as to who is “talking”.

For example, think of a very typical “You got an item!” line from a game.

In Japanese, such a line would usually more literally translate to “Got an item!”, leaving it unclear if it’s a narrator or the actual character’s thoughts.

That’s just something to keep in mind with stuff like this.

Now, in Kirby pause screen descriptions, it does usually appear to be a narrator “talking” in the pause screen descriptions, a sorta non-character entity, but with an attitude that fits the mood of Kirby.

But, in some cases, the narrations appear to be Kirby instead, and sometimes they will even seamlessly flow into each other, without any visual indicators.

Star Allies in particular does this a lot - like in the pause screens for the Dream Friends it’ll often go from what’s clearly a narrator to clearly the characters themselves between sentences, with no quotation marks or the like.

I also want to point out Planet Robobot as a sort of opposite example, which has the most distinct-sounding narrator, "talking” in a formal, analytical fashion, very unlike any other Kirby game. Set the mood well for that one.

How accurate the respective English versions are to this varies from titlle to title.

With all that outta the way, here are some examples I do know of where Kirby appears to be talking in pause screen descriptions of Copy Abilities.

First, one with actual quotation marks even, the description of the Mike Ability in the Japanese version of Kirby Super Star.

That description starts with the following exchange:

「カービィさん、ごしゅみは？」「・・・カラオケ。」

"Say, Kirby, do you have any hobbies?" "...Karaoke."

Pretty straight-forward, there.

Next is the Fighter Ability.

So it turns out, the Fighter Ability’s description actually often starts with an in-character exclamation that could be Kirby, but it could also be the ability itself talking? In the latter case, it’s probably not meant to be taken literally.

In either case, the descriptions often start with the casual greeting "Ossu!” and/or use the first person pronoun “Oira” - which like I said, sorta invokes the image of a character like Dragonball’s Son Goku and the like.

Then there’s the Sword Ability in the Japanese version of Nightmare in Dream Land.

That one seemingly has Kirby use “Watashi” to refer to himself, written in hiragana as “わたし “.

Like I mentioned in my original post, this one is more formal compared to “Boku”, and it also happens to be what Meta Knight uses - which might be an intentional connection here.

I feel this is actually a better example of the sort of “getting in character” vibe I wanted to point out, so I changed my reference in the original post to mention this one here instead ^^;

Also from the Japanese version of Nightmare in Dream Land, there’s the Freeze Ability’s description.

There, Kirby seemingly refers to himself as “Watashi”, written in katakana as “ワタシ ”.

The speaking style in that descryption is also more feminine, indicating that this is supposed to be the feminine style of “Watashi” rather than the general one.

Finally, the description of the Ghost Ability in the Japanese version of Squeak Squad.

In that one, Kirby also seemingly uses “Watashi” to refer to himself, written in hiragana as “わたし “.

This one appears to lean towards the more neutral style again.

And that’s about all I could find with a quick skim.

Again, video game narration can be a bit vague in Japanese, so you might not wanna take these super seriously, and the descriptions are generally light-hearted fun anway, but there you go ^^

Kirby: Meta Knight and the Knight of Hades (Chapter 3)

Kirby, King Dedede, and Waddle Dee boarded the battleship Halberd.

After hearing the story, they were surprised.

“Eh!? The Galaxia has been stolen!?”

“Troublesome, Meta Knight. I guess you weren’t careful…”

Dedede was going to laugh, but when he saw Meta Knight’s enraged mood, he quickly shut his mouth.

“Then, the Meta Knight I found was a fake but his sword was real. This is terrible!” Kirby said with a furious face.

“I hope no one else was hurt with the Galaxia. If it had a heart, I think it would be sad. I’m sorry for the Galaxia!” Waddle Dee was worried.

“He may be doing bad things on other stars. Maybe he’s going to disguise himself as Meta Knight, rampage, and damage Meta Knight’s reputation…”

Captain Vul nodded. “Well, I’m worried about that too. He may be trying to destroy Meta Knight’s honor. We need to act quickly…”

At that time, the communications desk rang.

When Axe Knight hit the switch, a surprising face was projected on the screen.

Captain Vul.

Everyone was shocked, seeing Captain Vul sitting next to Meta Knight.

Taken aback, the eagle stared at his face on the screen.

The Captain Vul on the screen said with a serious look, “Meta Knight, it’s a disaster! I was kidnapped by a bad guy and locked up. That eagle next to you is a fake and is aiming for your life!”

“What did you say!?”

The Meta Knights, upset, compared the two Captain Vuls.

Sword Knight said, stunned, “The voice is the same… which is the real one!?”

Captain Vul, sitting in his seat, shook his fists and shouted. “No, I am real! Don’t be fooled~!”

Captain Vul on the screen also shouted. “Believe me, Meta Knight! I’m the real Vul…”

“Stop this nonsense.” Meta Knight said in a cold voice to the screen. “I know the real Captain Vul is here. What do you want?”

“...”

The Captain Vul on the screen suddenly gave a fearless laugh.

“Hmm, I can’t help it. As you can guess, I’m not Captain Vul. I am the best disguise master in the universe, I can transform into anyone I’ve seen before. I am Beryl.”

“I don’t care about your name. Tell me what you want.”

“It’s about this,” Beryl showed off the Galaxia. “It’s a great sword, just like the legend says. Just swing it lightly and one thing will cut in two!”

Beryl shook the Galaxia and laughed. “If you want this guy to be returned, prepare 10,000 point stars.”

“What?”

“Isn’t this your favorite sword? Compared, 10,000 point stars should be cheap.”

Captain Vul burst into anger and shouted, “You’re asking for a ransom! Monster!”

“Hmm! Don’t you want me to return it? If not, I guess this is mine.”

“Bastard!”

Captain Vul was about to hit the screen until the Meta Knights stopped him in a hurry.

Meta Knight said, “I want the Galaxia back. Tell me where to meet you.”

“Hehehe, you’re different from your subordinates. You seem to understand. The place is the planet Magnus. Come to the southern plains of the largest volcano. Ten thousand point stars, don’t forget.”

The communication was cut.

Kirby spoke. “I can’t believe it! It looked just like Captain Vul, but I couldn’t tell which one was real!”

Captain Vul looked up and said to Meta Knight, “You saw the real eagle without any hesitation! I am deeply moved by this! Thank you, sir!”

Meta Knight nodded silently.

The knights all whispered.

(There was a fake, but he could tell them apart!)

(That was the coolest thing!)

“Meta Knight,” King Dedede spoke. “Are you really willing to pay all those point stars to that guy?”

“No way,” he replied. “We will regain the Galaxia by any honorable means.”

“In other words, you’re going to take it back with force?”

“It belongs to me!” Behind the mask, the swordsman’s eyes were shining with a strong light.

Planet Magnus.

It’s a rough star with many volcanoes. There are a few inhabitants, and the vegetation is scattered.

The Meta Knights came to the plains on the south side of the largest volcano.

What was waiting there was a sword fighter who looked just like Meta Knight holding the Galaxia.

“He disguised himself as Meta Knight again…!” Blade Knight screamed in anger.

Beryl spoke in Meta Knight’s voice. “There you are. First of all, let’s get the promised 10,000 point stars.”

“Promised? You’re a real rotten guy, you know that?” King Dedede said with a moody face. “You monster, while pretending to be Meta Knight, you rampaged through Dreamland. You should have left us alone. As Dreamland’s ruler, I’m going to make you pay, be prepared…”

“Before you attack, your majesty,” Meta Knight said.

King Dedede raised his hammer and replied. “Just leave this to me.”

“This is my fight. There is no need for you to get involved.”

“But you don’t even have a weapon.”

“I may not have the Galaxia, but this will be enough.” Meta Knight held a regular sword sold at any weapons store.

“With such a puny weapon…”

King Dedede looked dissatisfied, but Captain Vul spoke.

“For Meta Knight, any weapon is powerful. He could even use his bare hands.”

Meta Knight walked towards Beryl.

Kirby and Waddle Dee cheered aloud.

“Go for it, Meta Knight!”

“Rally, rally, Meta Knight!”

Meta Knight was full of rage. Even Kirby and Waddle Dee stopped cheering and took a breath.

However, Beryl did not seem to flinch and held tight the Galaxia.

King Dedede muttered, “He seems to have confidence in his grip, it’s not a bad grip either.”

Sword Knight, annoyed, replied, “That’s just a pose. It just looks strong because he’s imitating Meta Knight!”

While everyone was watching, Meta Knight started.

“Let’s go!” He shouted and leapt at Beryl. He lifted his sword and tried to slash at that moment.

Meta Knight disappeared.

Kirby and the other screamed involuntarily.

“What!? Meta Knight…!”

“He disappeared!?”

Beryl burst into laughter as if he had won. “Fufufu! Hahaha, it was a trap!”

“Wanna… see?”

Kirby and his friends rushed to the points where Meta Knight disappeared.

There was a deep hole there. It seems there was a thin plate placed on the hole and covered with soil so that it could not be seen. Meta Knight hadn’t noticed and fell in.

“Oh no! Looks like your precious swordsman fell into a pitfall!”

“Meta Knight! Are you okay!?” Captain Vul called to the bottom of the hole, but there was no reply.

Sword Knight shouted, “Pitfalls don’t work for Meta Knight. You may not know, but Meta Knight can fly in the air!”

Beryl laughed louder and louder. “Fufufu! You don’t know anything!”

“What…!?”

“This hole is called ‘Magnus Hades Hole’. It’s so deep that there is a legend that it continues to Hades. Moreover, the hole is filled with poisonous gas.”

“Poisonous gas…!?”

“If you inhale it, your whole body will quickly become numb and you will not be able to move.”

“What did you say…!?”

Kirby and the others were stunned.

The immobile Meta Knight has no choice but to fall to the bottom of the deep, deep hold. And if he keeps breathing the poisonous gas…

“I’ll help him!”

Kirby was absorbed in trying to jump into the hole, but was stopped by King Dedede.

“Knucklehead! The poisonous gas could kill you!”

“But if he stays in there, Meta Knight…!”

“Fufufufu… hahahaha!” Beryl laughed. “Don’t you see? I didn’t come here for some point stars. I want to replace Meta Knight as the number one sword fighter in the galaxy!”

“Monster!”

King Dedede swung his hammer up and attacked Beryl.

Beryl quickly jumped and ran away.

“Wait-!”

Kirby tried to chase after them, but Beryl escaped quickly. He soon lost sight of them.

Captain Vul said, “Kirby, leave them alone. Now, the first thing to do is rescue Meta Knight.”

“Uh, yeah, but how…?”

“Hmm… if only there was a way to get into the hole without inhaling the gas…!”

Captain Vul pondered with his head in his hand.

Axe Knight shouted, “Captain, there’s a hose used for deck cleaning in the warehouse of the Halberd! If it’s long enough, do you think it’ll be useful!?”

“Oh, that’s a good idea!” Captain Vul clapped his hands. “Get the hose right away! Hurry up!”

Kirby and Dedede can both hover in the air. Unfortunately, King Dedede got hungry so Kirby decided to go down into the hole.

“Be careful, Kirby.”

Waddle Dee seemed uneasy, but Kirby cheerfully replied.

“It’s okay! I’ll bring Meta Knight home.”

Captain Vul shouted. “Hurry up, Kirby! We don’t have much time!”

“Alright!”

Kirby grabbed the hose and jumped into the hole.

The inside of the hole was dark and difficult to see.

Kirby went down into the dark at full speed.

He wanted to call to Meta Knight, but he couldn’t speak with the hose in his mouth. In his heart, he kept screaming.

(I’m coming! Hold on Meta Knight!)

As the name Hades Hole suggests, the hole was horribly deep.

There seemed to be no end in sight.

As he went down the rocky interior, the air felt thinner.

(How long does this last… The hose, I wonder if it’s long enough… I might really fall into Hades…)

At that moment, Kirby’s hand finally touched something hard.

(Ah! Meta Knight!)

He reached the bottom of the hole that seemed to continue forever.

Meta Knight was out cold. Even if Kirby shook him, there was no reaction.

(Firmly now…!)

Kirby held the body of Meta Knight tightly with both hands.

“I’m going too!” King Dedede interrupted. “I’m not doing this for Meta Knight, I just don’t like that disguise guy! I’m gonna have to hit him with my hammer. And…”

Dedede was quiet.

“If he’s still disguised as Meta Knight, making him bruised will feel all the much better.”

“...Sheesh, what a guy.” Sword Knight was disappointed, but regardless, the goal was set.

Captain Vul came in. “Meta Knight will be saved. You guys go take care of this business! Go on!”

“Leave it to us!” Kirby nodded loudly.

This was Diamond Town. It was a small town surrounded by huge diamond mines and filled with diamonds dug out of said mine. It was also divided into two areas. The center was the "Town of Light" where aristocratic mansions were lined up. Surrounding it was the "Town of Wind" where ordinary, but cheerful residents lived. Kirby, Waddle Dee, and President Dedede were residents of the Town of Wind.

Kirby's home was a room in an apartment where no one lived. He was secretly living in a building that would soon be torn down. It was a rundown apartment, but Kirby loved it. The first reason was the the window. The window was partially broken, so it was well ventilated. Second, even if he sang as loud as he could, no one would get angry. The third thing was that a small airplane could be parked on the roof of the building. Kirby was very good at flying airplanes. He enjoyed carrying his luggage, taking an airplane, and going on an adventure to a distant city.

Dedede, the president of a nearby factory, was his airplane racing rival. The maneuvering skill of President Dedede was not bad, but he was not as good as Kirby. In the race yesterday, Kirby brilliantly achieved a hundred consecutive victories against him.

"See ya," Daroach said.

He jumped with light footsteps and left through the open window.

In the blink of an eye, the great thief Daroach was gone.
