Wesper (Semi) Modern Royalty AU Prince Wylan and bodyguard Jesper.

“With all due respect your majest-”

“Drop the respect!” interrupted Wylan. His crown still sat crooked on his head, his uniform wrinkeled from running. 

“You saved my life.”

“That... is my job.” Jesper shifted in place averting his gaze. He was hiding something as did Wylan and both of them knew.

“You sat at my bedside when I was sick, you told me about your family, you, you heard what I did the other day…You must know how I feel about you by now! Am I truly just your duty…” It was Wylans turn to duck his head in shame and avoid looking at Jesper. He hesitantly looked back up again when Jesper stepped close to him, reached up, and gave Wylan’s crown a tilt to put it back properly sitting on his messy hair. 

He was not supposed to touch the royal jewels.

“Sire..”

“Call me Wylan!.” Wylans gaze was stern now, if only to cover up the shaking in his voice and the trembling of his lower lip.”Tell me! Tell me what you want. I’m not imagining the way we exchange glances, the way we can talk when we’re not prince and subject...” Jesper’s heart broke everytime he saw that sad pleading look in his princes eyes. It made him want to kiss away that worry frown from between his eyebrows without fail. What was he supposed to tell him? It wasn't often that Jesper Fahey was a a loss for words.

“Wylan...” He tested the given name of his prince on his lips. It’s felt strangely intimate. What was he supposed to tell him?

Months of pining seemed to be coming to one final crescendo right now.

He settled for the truth.~

A take on modern wesper

(let me know if I should continue)

When I think about modern wesper I think about two dedicated hardworking individuals. Who at the end of a working day come home from their jobs, maybe Jesper is a fashon designer working on his next big collection Wylan is most likely a chemist or one of those high school comfort teachers (if ykyk).

At the end of the day, however, they've left work and come home to their pets.

Jesper's curled up in an arm chair, coffee mug in hand as he flicks through his portfolio. Looking up to greet Wylan with a gentle smile and a tilt of his head as he other dips his head to kiss his cheek.

He jerks his thumb towards the coffee table where there's a cup of tea for his partner, a biscuit next to it. Mirroring his own set up moments prior.

They talk about their day, Wylan cooks because it's his turn and Jesper cleans. they eat together, watch their evening show and then head to bed. Then Jesper curls around Wylan, fingers tilting his chin and grinning as their lips meet. They shift closer, switch their lamps off and relax into each embrace, ready to do it all again.

The week goes on and then they are at the end. Their plans are usually the same, dinner at one of the crows house’s Kaz and Inej'z turn this week. Jes has seen Inej throughout the week, he's selected her as a muse for this latest collection and they all couldn't be prouder of how it's come out so far. Nina does all the numbers and she thinks that its's something fresh and different for the industry.

They discuss this, laugh and just simply enjoy each others company. They all leave with smiles on their faces, feeling content and ready to do it all again.

02. A Familiar Ache

Summary: Wylan broke up with Jesper for lying to him about how much he was drinking. But it turns out that when Jesper’s honest about being drunk, he still chooses his ex-boyfriend to help him. And Wylan can’t help but go to him.

The first time that Jesper’s name appeared on Wylan’s phone, he stared at it in shock until it finished ringing.

The second time he called, Wylan clicked it off in a half-second.

The third time, he answered.

“Jesper,” Wylan greeted him without waiting for his ex-boyfriend to say anything, voice laced with exasperation, “what do you want? It’s one in the morning.” 

A chuckle echoed through the phone and Wylan despised the shivers that it sent down his spine. The sudden intimacy of Jesper’s laugh so close to his ear, a ghost of so many memories, was disorientating and did little to help his quest to get over the guy.

“I might need a little help,” drawled Jesper. 

A coldness overtook the little bit of warmth that Wylan had experienced. Of course. Jesper was fucking drunk out of his mind. He could hear it in the slur of his words, the deepness that accompanied it when he’d had a few too many Jameson and gingers. A lethargicness to his words as his alcohol-filled brain fought to string sentences together. He always pulled it off, but it was like you could hear the mechanics of his mind whirring in the process.

“So call Kaz, not me,” Wylan bit out. No, he didn’t resent that the two were still close even though Kaz had been the first to warn him about Jesper’s proclivities. 

A laugh that turned into a hiccup burned his ears through his phone.

“Kaz-Kazzy, he’s pissed at me. Besides, it’s his anniversary with darling Inej. I’ll wake up without eyeballs if I interrupt that.”

Wylan hated how much it made sense.

Jesper continued rambling about the ways that Kaz would mutilate him while Wylan wracked his brain for anyone else that Jesper could have called. Their friends still overlapped, a tricky element that he still couldn’t get a handle on, and surely there was someone else that Jesper could have called. But with Inej and Kaz out of the equation, that left Nina and Matthias. And Nina had only been home from rehab for a couple months––Matthias was even more protective of her than normal. An inebriated Jesper calling seemed like a recipe for disaster. 

“So you called me,” he said flatly, not really asking, “because you knew I’d do it.”

Tears infuriatingly pricked at his eyes. Dependable Wylan who never said no. Boring Wylan who of course wouldn’t have a reason that he couldn’t come pick up the pieces of the mess, as usual. When was enough going to be enough?

Jesper’s snort of surprise pulled him out of his wallowing.

“Because you're a good person, Wy,” he said with startling clarity.

Somehow that made it worse.

Nina: And…

Wylan: Don’t ask me why he thinks that we need blessing of Kaz Brekker, I don’t know. We already wrote a letter to my father in Hellgate and he sent us back 15 pages of curses, I think this is better than any blessing.

Jesper: I tried to talk with Kaz about it and said that I know that Wylan is too good for me, and he said “oh, perfect, I don’t need to talk with you” and closed a door in my face!
