Tumblr media
ISAGI YOICHI is a full-fledged bonafide simp...
he suffers from tragic a condition. when he’s not trying? flirting supreme panty dropper. however, when he tries to flirt with someone he likes? bro is fumbling. at first he seems like such an instant charmer. hes a classic gentleman, great listener, and super attractive. but the second he gets an inkling of a crush, he ruins it for himself. stuttering and getting his words mixed up, saying the most embarrassing jumbled combination of what he actually meant to.
follows you around to all your tasks because how else would he spend his free time except hanging with his baby. to sephora, to the grocery store, to the salon, the the ends of the earth if that's where you're heading that day. more than happy to hold onto your hand as you go about your business, rambling about global soccer statistics and looking at you like you hold the world. yoichi is a prideful purse holder too, his arms and pockets and car being full of your belongings makes him insanely happy for some reason he can’t put his finger on. always ready to press the lip gloss you’re patting yourself down for into the palm your hand, taking a kiss as payment.
he’s bad at planning dates, so don’t put him in charge unless you want to be late to a reservation at a restaurant 2 hours away with mediocre food. he’s good at paying for them though!! the dates he does get to plan are usually to the mall. what can i say, man likes to spoil you.
at the mall isagi can kind of trick you. because typically if he were to offer to buy you a couple hundred dollars worth of things, you would absolutely refuse. buttt if its just one thing from this store and one thing from another, and maybe its the fact that you dont feel the weight of all the items as your boyfriend carries it all, but it flies under your radar. and at some point you look at yoichi… and he has a lot of shopping bags. surely some of those were his right? the little pleased love sick smile on his face says otherwise.
its so worth it to isagi tho. he gets to spend time with you, make you happy, be a doting bf. but it also means that he can pick out clothes for you. as generous as he was, he could be a bit of a greedy gifter - never leaving the mall without a new skirt of his choosing. will personally pick out a pile of things he wants you to try on just for him.
once youre with isagi for a few months, he reveals his true colors. man is a serial PDA offender. he just thinks you’re so pretty, and it gives him such an ego boost to be the guy by your side. better hold his hand or its going in your back pocket. leans in under the guise of giving you a quick, generally acceptable peck on the lips… but all of a sudden he wants another before you even fully pull away from the first and its all downhill from there. sits on your side of the table at restaurants instead of across from you so he can rest his hand on your thigh and sneak in small squeezes when he thinks youre not paying attention. and be careful about walking in front of him, he’s not strong enough to resist the urge to smack your ass.
if the PDA thing wasnt a dead give away, isagi is just very affectionate in general, honestly has a hard time leaving you alone when you’re in the same room as him. he just gravitates towards you no matter what he was previously doing. very easily distracted, very easy to bribe. he’s the type of guy where when he goes to get out of bed in the morning to go to practice, and you cling to him and ask him for just 5 more minutes, theres nothing that could stop him from sinking right back into your arms. his attendance record has definitely suffered because he is unable to deny you a single thing you ask for, especially if that thing is him.

CHIGIRI HYOMA is taken and makes sure everyone knows it…
hyoma’s partner very quickly becomes his best friend if they weren’t before they started dating. it’s not even intentional, but he gets very quickly attached to you. sure, he has a decent amount of friends, but none of them know him like you do. he loves to hear you talk about your life, invested in your daily drama and indulging you with all of his. he likes to hear your input and insights on situations. he takes notes in his phone when he sees things he thinks you would like, or conversations he had that he wants to tell you about. forever surprised by how much he misses you when you’re apart, chigiri is used to not needing anyone the way he needs you. is so much grumpier at matches that have him go abroad without you, texting you often throughout the day, whenever he can get his hands on his phone.
because you’re now his best friend and partner, chigiri’s a bit tied to you at the hip, but he would never admit to being clingy. not that you mind, hanging out with him is fun and surprisingly intimate. he never fails to hold your hand wherever you go or throw an arm around your shoulder. on dates he’ll lean in close to your ear to whisper little observations and jokes about the people around, the two of you sharing witty comments and secretive snickers behind your hands. when hanging out with mutual friends, the way yours eyes meet his wordlessly, both holding the same micro expression, indistinguishable to other people, that says “we are so talking about that later”.
speaking of clinging to your side, hyoma can have a bit of a possessive streak at times. i feel like it’s something you don’t really expect of him until there’s a guy flirting with you in a store. the way your boyfriend is at your side before you can even answer, standing at his full height, squaring his shoulders with a sour look on his face, not at all shy about the way his arm snakes around your waist. “they’re not interested.” he states plainly, as if it were obvious, but if you payed close attention to him (which you always did), you would notice the distasteful curl of his lip or the venom seeping into his tone or the way his usually gentle fingers hold onto your side with a firm grip.
he doesn’t meet your eyes after, already sensing the knowing smirk on your lips. his ears turn red when you break the silence to tell him that green was a good color on him. but, your ever clever boyfriend is quick to reply, “that’s cute baby, but i’m not jealous. you haven’t seen me when i’m jealous.” the mischievous glimmer in his eye and the smug smile he wears reminds you to not test him.
king of matching outfits with you. not in the novelty shirts cheesy way, but he always asks for a fit check before he picks you up on dates. chigiri is outside your apartment within the hour, wearing a jacket that matches the color of your shoes and a sly grin. generally starts to shift his style to be a bit more cohesive with yours, he loves going out and looking like you belong together.
not to mention, matching outfits give him more excuses to take pictures with you. photos of you and him are plastered all over his instagram, your handle in his bio and everything. he’s no amateur either, always able to catch your best side, in perfect lighting. really makes you feel as pretty as he seems to think you are. hyoma is a bit of a show off too, so he gets a bit of an ego boost getting to let everyone know how cute you are, and that you’re all his.
hyoma greatly values the alone time he gets to spend with you. the best part of his week is sitting on the couch as you help him with his hair care routine. you running a mix of the comb and your fingers through his hair as the two of you catch up on the k-drama you started together. your touch and your attention and your warm presence enough to make the stress of a pro soccer career melt off his shoulders. makes you teach him how to do your nails and learns your skin care routine so that he can return the favor, although he’s much better at the latter.

MIKAGE REO is ungodly whipped and more than a little dramatic…
if we’re talking about social media boyfriends, reo is near insufferable. let’s be real, reo was already flexing on the gram before you got with him. constantly posting pictures of his car and expensive watches and exclusive clubs. he just becomes worse when you agree to go out with him. his story is full of aesthetically blurry shots of you, sometimes featuring him, anywhere and everywhere. in his car, on dates, cooking in his kitchen. he even found the audacity to post a picture of you in his bed, your bare back in full frame, the sheets pooled around your waist. “i’m so lucky” was the caption and the only context provided. unsurprisingly the lifespan of that post was quite short once you caught wind of it, with the assurance that he wouldn’t be getting so lucky in the near future.
i totally think reo is the type of guy that tries to act like a fuckboy but is secretly a hopeless romantic. in other words, reo is a huge sap™. has a picture of you in his wallet. you’re his screen saver and all his passwords feature your name. nagi is the last person left that will still listen to reo ramble on about you, all of his other friends having gotten tired of it.
we already know that reo is taking you to fancy dinners on the regular, but more unexpectedly i think he is a big fan of outdoorsy dates. previously mentioned hopeless romantic tendencies means reo loves a picnic way more than he lets on. his favorite is when the summer comes around and he gets to take you to the beach. if reo dies and goes to heaven and it's not you rubbing sunscreen into his warm back in a skimpy swimsuit he picked out for you himself, he's not interested. a close second favorite of his is late night drives with you. all the windows of his luxury sports car down, blasting a playlist the two of you made together, singing loud and ugly down the empty freeway. in these moments you make him feel weightless and he swears it’s addicting.
king of clingy. every time that you feel your phone vibrate, there's a good chance that it's your boyfriend. never with anything important either, asking where you are, how was your day, sending you pics of whatever he is doing, even resorting to imessage games when he runs out of things to talk about. he just always finds himself itching to open your contact. if mikage reo could eat up all of your attention, he would not hesitate to do so.
reo is usually the caretaker. when he obtained status of boyfriend, you automatically went on his list of special people in his life, only really consisting of you and nagi, and this granted you the exclusive privilege of walking all over him if you so please. truly a pushover and weak to your pouts. while we’re on the subject of ways to get him to fold, reo is surprisingly easy to flatter. your compliments are honey to his ears, no matter how many people have said the same to him before. his heart thumps loud in his chest whenever you do any act of service or labor of love for him. just wait for the day you buy this man some flowers. got his hand splayed over his red face, his palm not wide enough to cover his infatuated grin. "they're really for me, babe? god i knew i picked you for a reason.”
reo's feelings for you run extremely deep. scary deep. you make him feel stupid and irrational. he can't think straight, he's impulsive. you have to keep a close eye on him because give reo enough time alone and he'll convince himself that getting your name tattooed across his chest is an amazing idea, a grandiose display of his affection and devotion to you - sick as hell too. god forbid you go on a trip by yourself, there's honestly a decent chance you'll come home to a marriage proposal and explanations on how "no no, don't worry babe, i know its sooner than you expected but i've got it all planned out.” just be glad that up until this point he has resisted the strong urge to drop a fourth of his trust fund on a ring, a price he's more than willing to pay to make you all his.

NAGI SEISHIRO is greedy and will readily take a mile if given an inch…
nagi is… new to the whole boyfriend thing to say the least. not to say he’s bad at it or anything, but i imagine that in the beginning of your relationship, things are a bit, for a lack of better words, lukewarm. he struggles a bit with recognizing that the switch from friends to more than friends is more than just the title, letting you completely take the wheel. but his passiveness doesn’t last long. not when he can’t escape the way you are constantly on his mind. he thought it was overwhelming enough having a crush on you, but now that he’s falling for you it’s on another level. he thinks of you when he first opens his eyes, facing the obnoxious blue light of his phone to send you your daily goodmorning :x . he thinks of you at night, when he’s restlessly fighting to fall asleep before he ultimately caves and facetimes you so that he can drift off to your tired mumbles and even breaths. he thinks of you when practice drags on, the anticipation of seeing you after the only thing keeping him from giving into his exhaustion.
nagi can’t get you out of his head for the life of him, but to be fair he doesn’t put up much of a fight. seishiro is used to getting what he wants, so what does he do when his desire for you becomes a hassle? he makes it your problem. constantly calling you and asking you to pick him up from social functions because he misses you. insisting that he stays the night at your place or that you come to his because he needs his daily dose of you. and he doesn’t have the shame to be shy of telling you everything on his mind either. he unintentionally says very flustering things, unabashedly demanding your touch and your company, no matter who is listening. it’s your fault he’s like this after all, you might as well take responsibility and give him what he wants.
and what he wants is affection from you, as much as he can get. serishiro is mesmerized by your reactions. being in love with you is uncharted territory that he maps out with piqued curiosity and newfound greed. especially kissing. once nagi gets his first taste of kissing you for real, messy and needy and drawn out, he never wants to go back. not after seeing your red face, eyes lidded and lips parted so cutely he just has to steal one more. now his day dreams revolve around you, what flavor of chapstick you’re wearing, what perfume do you have on, are you thinking of him as much as he does you? thats one thing he never really finds the courage to ask, but that he secretly hopes is true.
he loves to find things you can work on together, even if you always end up being the one putting in more effort. nagi will insist on cooking dinner together, and maybe you get his help for a good 10 minutes before he’s slumped in a seat at the counter eating the ingredients. buys tons of lego sets for the two of you to put together and while you’re following the instructions, he’s stealing pieces you need so he can build a little car to push around the table while he watches you figure it out. he’ll even settle for a puzzle and a movie, but your out of luck if you expect him to do anything but the edges.
the lazy genius only really has the time and energy to have a couple of important people in his life, but once you make it into that inner circle, that shit is permanent as far as he’s concerned. it begins with him telling you that it only makes sense to leave some clothes at his apartment, you’re at his place half the week anyway. and then its him smuggling over your favorite pillows and stuffed animals to his bed instead of yours. then he’s asking you to go grocery shopping with him every week. the jokes he makes about the fact that, “you keep all your stuff here anyway. just move in with me already,” are far too frequent to be subtle. but when he hits you with the puppy eyes, which are annoyingly effective, how could you say no?
you’ve put yourself in his orbit after all and now the solar system that is nagi seishiro will use his gravity to pull you inevitably closer. it’s doomed.

I don't know if you've already made a post about this, but I wanted to ask: How can I be more positive about the protests, not being a privileged person? I'm not the prettiest, I'm not the smartest, I'm not rich (in fact I want to manifest better conditions), I feel mentally exhausted. I'm kind of just desperate to manifest a better life for myself and my family, but I feel so negative about it. I feel like I'm just going to become another one of the statistics about poor people; Sometimes I question the results of certain people, because I actually don't know if they are already privileged in a certain way, whether it's because she's pretty, smart or has money. Some people who talk about staying positive, manifest, selfcare, are privileged people, not rich people, but people with excellent financial and psychological conditions; I'm sad, because I really don't have money for self-care or therapy, I feel guilty, sad and insufficient because I don't have enough money:(
do not pretend these circumstances arent there. realize that you are self that chooses what to accept as true. yes, you have a choice. what you should do is become indifferent to what you experience. yes it is in the 3d but “it doesnt affect who i am and what version of myself i choose to be.”
i think the reason why u may be getting a mental burn out is because you are trying to persuade or force yourself to believe that what your human self is experiencing in the 3d, is not there. again - indifference. another important concept is the nuetral 3d. it never has original meaning. we give it meaning.
i know how you feel about being tired of life - and from my experience, i was so tired of living a life i didnt like that it motivated me to actually apply the law and use my power to get what i want. the law is always working for you so you are always in control, and when you live this “negative” life, it is you - the operant power, allowing yourself to stick in this “negative” life. you are choosing to be this version of you who lives like this. you are being the one who is living that.
know that it is not - the 3d shows me something -> then i become a version of me / i embody a version of me which matches the 3d. it will always be, i am a version of me -> the 3d follows that bc i am the 3d. signs follow, they do not precede.
you cannot let what you see influence who you become. bc who you become is why you are seeing what you see. who you are being is why you see what you see through that perspective, thro that state.
a lot of ppl have manifested great things and complete transformations without being privileged at first. stop focusing on other success stories and make yourself the success story. success story = changing self!
for the feelings of guilt and sadness, allow yourself to feel that bc emotions are human nature. what you shouldnt do is feel like those emotions are ruining anything, or try to suppress these emotions, or make imaginary and “negative” stories out of those emotions. they are always neutral!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
when you are experiencing bad things, so what you need to do to make ends meet in the 3d such as getting a job to get that money you want. whatever you do shouldnt intertwine with the rich version of you that you are being. you can do whatever you want in the 3d while being/knowing you have what you want already. but you do not self-sabotage your human self because you think that doing stuff in the 3d will “ruin your manifestation”. example: you are broke in real life so you get a job while being the version of self who is already rich. it doesnt matter what you experience in the 3d bc all that matters is who self is being. if you didnt take that job but you are struggling financially, there is still the human self to take care of (you need money for food, shelter, etc) so again, nothing you do in the 3d matters as long as you are changing self.
to wrap up: it doesnt matter what you see in the 3d. clearly you claim: you arent the prettiest or smartest or richest. thats the issue. you are accepting those versions of you. you are being those versions of you.
& “how to be more positive?” : decide you are positive and happy. i can recommend visualizing yourself living the life you want and eventually you will fulfill yourself and be this new version of you.
skim this for other questions: 🧼

i hope this isn't a weird ask, but i'm looking for some hope. i consider myself really fucking stupid. i don't think i have good "critical thinking" skills, or even good reading comprehension. do you think it's possible to get better at those things?
as i mentioned earlier, my answer is yes. as i also mentioned, i genuinely think that the fact that you are less than confident about your skills in these areas is itself valuable and not as common as it probably should be. i have worked with a fair number of kids, both in the elementary school classroom and in the upper grades for test prep stuff, whose reading comprehension isn't great, but who genuinely do not seem to notice there is anything off about their reading until they have to answer questions about it. they're in the habit of just glossing by a lot of stuff and not noticing. i have met kids who would swear to you they love to read who cannot accurately recount what actually happens in the scene they just read, but who seem pretty confident that what they're doing is reading. so if you're going around reading stuff and thinking, "hey, that's confusing" - congratulations! you are great at self-assessing your own comprehension. this is REALLY HARD for a lot of people to do.
i also think it's actually important to NOT think of either reading comprehension or critical thinking as a binary on/off switch, where you're either good at it or bad at it. both of these things are spectrums. in addition, both of these things are context dependent. there are a lot of things i have pretty good reading comprehension for. there are also types of text where my reading comprehension is straight-up bad: scientific papers published for other scientists to read; philosophy or literary theory of any kind; poetry. i tried to reread laura mulvey's original "male gaze" essay because i suspected people were using the concept wrong both in its favor, and i couldn't meaningfully follow its argument (although i think i am probably right because i don't really believe that many randos are so much better at interpreting freudian film theory than i am, lmao). these are all examples of texts where i don't have a lot of background knowledge in the subject area or a lot of experience reading this kind of thing. they are also mostly things i don't care enough about to put in the time and effort to get better at. (sometimes i think about trying to do this with poetry, but i have not prioritized this yet, to say the least.)
critical thinking also depends majorly on familiarity with a topic or at least with a field. i'll give you an example. on the podcast maintenance phase, the hosts attempt to apply critical thinking to common perceptions of scientific research. some of their points are good, and many of them sound convincing to me, a person who doesn't know a lot about science. but i soured on the podcast over time largely because on the subreddit for the show, an attempt at a scientific deep dive often brought at least one person who was like, "i have some expertise in this field and they are wrong." sometimes this is about interpreting a specific study (or, uh basic factual shit like the definition of a word), but a lot of times it's about big picture stuff that is hard to think about if you don't have experience in the field. one recent example that interested me was regarding a study done on ozempic. the hosts mentioned that in the trial, (iirc) two people died. sounds scary and not great! someone on reddit pointed out, though, that this was a very large study that recorded deaths for any reason - it's probably not statistically anomalous that two out of however many people died, and there's no evidence to indicate that ozempic had anything to do with it. i appreciated this science-minded redditor because i definitely listened to the episode and was like, wow! scary! but when i read that explanation i was like, oh, okay, yeah.
i am not any kind of expert, and i guess you didn't technically ask for advice, but here are some things that may or may not be helpful.
with regard to reading comprehension:
struggle is a normal part of reading, especially of reading complicated texts. if you are struggling with a text, it does NOT mean you "have bad reading comprehension" or are fucking up. it indicates you have good self-awareness about your own level of comprehension.
i don't have research on this one. this is speculation. but my hunch is that for people who have a certain baseline level of reading comprehension, reading things that are challenging to understand over time increases the amount of stuff you can read easily. i was definitely better at reading books by historians at the end of my history degree than i was at the start. and honestly, i was also better at it after i spent like a year obsessively reading books about new york city history than i was when i graduated!
related to that, it's okay to understand something mostly but not all the way!
it's also okay to determine your own goals for understanding, and spend your time appropriately! i have a terrible visual imagination so to really fully "comprehend" any passage in any novel that describes the layout of a room, i would have to get a notebook out and draw it. i'm not gonna do that. (weirdly, though, i often love reading that shit anyway, haha.)
there is a lot of research out there emphasizing the importance of background knowledge to comprehension. (natalie wexler has written a book about this i haven't read, along with some articles i have read.) the scary way to look at this link is, "oh no, how can i learn all the things i need to know?" the awesome and exciting way to look at it is, every time you learn something, it widens the circle of things you can read, which means it widens the circle of things you can learn about, which means you can keep leaning.
you can also google stuff. one time i was confused by a book's explanation of a government policy so i googled and found some articles that covered it in more detail. (and also discovered that the specific example the book had used had been phased out of the law by the time it was published, lol.)
there are some strategies that have been found to increase reading performance, but the research around these is mostly around them as teaching strategies. my favorite reading guy timothy shanahan has speculated that the thing the strategies all have in common is they're ways of getting kids to actually pay attention when they read. the main strategy i think has value for people who want to get better at reading on their own is summarizing. every so often, take a moment to put into your own words what you've just read. how often will depend on what you are reading and how challenging it is. every paragraph is a often a good benchmark for something dense, especially as you are getting used to reading like this. every page or every chapter might be more appropriate for something like a novel. there have been times when i've done this sentence by sentence because something was really fucking dense! (a general note: this can also help people who feel their reading comprehension is mostly fine but have a lot of trouble remembering what they read. when i started doing this kind of thing consciously it improved my recall a lot, and i had a decent memory for textual information to begin with.) (if you REALLY want a power-up, taking notes is great, but most people understandably don't want to do this for their recreational reading.) over time there is also a good chance that you'll start doing this more fluidly and automatically as you read and not have to choose to do it consciously as much. but if not that's ok!
a strategy that is not always a natural fit for reading on your own but can be useful for certain kinds of reading is setting yourself questions to answer and then seeing if you can answer them. obviously, this typically makes more sense as a teaching strategy because how can you know what a text will contain until you read it? but there are times you can make a pretty educated guess, or stick to a really basic thing like "what is [thing this is promising to explain]?" i once picked up a particular NYC history book because it had been cited somewhere else as containing an account of the consolidation for the five boroughs. it was a really dense book and i decided that while i probably wouldn't retain many of the details its covered, i really wanted to learn from this book the author's answer to why the boroughs became one. four years later i still remember most of the reasons he gave! (harbor maintenance; economic competition with other large cities; a belief in some quarters that brooklyn would be a good influence on the manhattan political machine; i think there was one or two more but i'm 95% sure those were the ones cited as being most important.)
look up words! honestly tutoring has made ME realize how many words out there i "sort of" know but can't provide great definitions for, lol. a site i always recommend for my students doing vocab is learnersdictionary.com, which is by the encyclopedia britannica people and aimed for kids. it's a pretty full dictionary, but the definitions, while still accurate, are a lot more "user-friendly" than most dictionary definitions, which can be technical in a way that makes them less than illuminating.
for critical thinking:
honestly at LEAST half your battle is won. the main error i see people make in the realm of critical thinking is believing they are qualified to assess information they are not in fact qualified to do. the name of the game is humility.
i think my own critical thinking skills have really benefited from times when i've been able to read multiple perspectives on a fairly narrow topic. when i was in my NYC history era (i really gotta get back on that train), one thing i did was that every time i finished a book, i popped over to JSTOR to see if any scholars had reviewed it. i specifically wanted scholarly reviews because those are the people who can point out things i would NEVER have thought of because i did not have their years of expertise. for example, i read this one jill lepore book that was... fine... but there was a review of it that was like, "it's weird that based on her sources she didn't consult the largest and most important archive related to this place during this period, and as a result is mistaken about how common or uncommon certain things she describes are." i have never heard of that archive so i am glad someone pointed that out!
you can't always do that, obviously, and also sometimes you don't want to. but i think doing that regularly for a while helped me increase my intellectual humility and build the habit of filing things i read as "interesting if true" while leaving room for the fact that maybe they're not. (honestly the maintenance phase subreddit felt like a podcast version of this, lol, and i appreciated it a lot!)
idk. there is a fad these days for teaching "critical thinking skills"; as i mentioned in the post i assume prompted this, there is also debate about whether this is even a thing. in grad school, i felt like i saw a lot of people who had learned to mimic what they thought of as critical thinking by asking things like, "what about kids who belong to [a particular underrepresented group]?" or "how does the author have bias?" and those are good questions to ask, but knowing to ask those questions is not the same as thinking critically. if i were to try to give a shorthand question that guides my own attempts to think critically, it would be something like, "how does this person establish that what they claim to be true is actually true?" the sources they use are part of this, yes, but, again, asking "what about the sources???" is not, in and of itself, critical thinking. you also have to think about things like, "they go from this idea to that idea, but does idea 2 actually follow from idea 1?" and the number one bias you have to watch out for is your own.
i want to state again here that this is not a binary and the goal is not to be good at it, it's to keep getting better. years ago, i read an article in the atlantic by a professor of math education about the importance of counting on one's fingers in early math. i was like, wow, that's so cool and interesting. i had a first grader who was really struggling with some very basic stuff, and i did some exercises from the article with him because i thought they might help. maybe three years later, if that, i came across the article again, because i had just looked up something else by the author and been like, "wait, what? this seems blatantly not factual?" i remembered that i had liked this thing she had said about finger-counting, and i went back to try to figure out if that one had been better or if i had been mistaken, and i was, like, horrified that the atlantic had printed this and that i had once read it and nodded along like "so true bestie." the article was full of leaps in logic that sounded good but weren't actually supported at all. i'm sharing this story because if you feel like you are bad at critical thinking.... like, me too, sometimes!!!!! everyone is!!!!! if someone tells you they are super awesome at critical thinking all the time, that person is a fucking idiot and you shouldn't trust them for shit!!!!!
one other thing i can't not address: i once not too long ago made a post to the effect of "my life got a lot better when i accepted the possibility of being stupid," so i did not want to harp on this off the bat or too strongly for fear of being a hypocrite, lol, and i don't want to argue with you, a total stranger, about your perception of yourself, because i am allergic to people doing that to me. however, i would feel wrong not to mention that the specific phrasing and language you use in your ask suggests to me that when you think of yourself as "really fucking stupid," there is likely a significant emotional component in that belief and the emotions that it brings up in you, and i would be pretty surprised if it were not at least partly a reflection of your general relationship with yourself. i am telling you this because it reminds me of the way that i used to think about myself in my brain. i reliably performed well academically when i wasn't having a nervous breakdown, but i thought of myself as deeply stupid until mid twenties. there are a couple of factors i can point to regarding why i don't feel that way anymore, but by far the biggest, i think, is just that i don't hate myself the way i used to. thinking of myself as stupid in the particular vitriolic way your ask reminded me of was never actually about my smarts or lack thereof. it was just a manifestation of my deep and painful self-loathing. so i encourage you to cultivate a way of being kind to yourself, of forgiving yourself, of letting go of the shame you might be carrying about your skills or about other things that might seem unrelated. my final answer to your question is that there's hope for your capacity to grow, but it's also okay for you to be where you are. this is about reading, but it's also about everything else.
finally, if you are confused about anything i've written here, feel free to ask for clarification. i am good with words and i've tried to be clear, but one of the writing-related skills i suck MOST at is being able to gauge whether or not i have written something in a needlessly confusing way, lmao.

Actually wild for me that people not liking the one piece art style is something that's come up often enough that you've mentioned it like twice considering I personally love the (mainly manga (and not the digitally colored version), i haven't seen a lot of the anime although the animation in wano and egghead is gorgeous) art style a lot. For some reason I am always shocked to learn people have different opinions from me despite that being basically a daily occurrence
The messages I get complaining about one piece very wildly but mostly it's about the art style specifically about how the females are drawn and how it's misogynistic. My view is no one in One Piece is drawn with a realistic body type male or female. Well with a few exceptions like Luffy and his brothers but that's about it. But when it comes to female characters and how poorly they can be written in anime, especially Shonen anime One Piece has some of the best written female characters I have ever seen so that definitely makes up for the unrealistic proportions. Now, when I say best written, I don't mean just in anime. I mean in fiction in general. But I still get messages like this
Tumblr media
Or like this at least two to three times a week
Tumblr media
Really why did you send this? Were you expecting a response like I'm sorry it's popular it's just statistics. I've been on Tumblr since 2012 and I've been following the fandom statistics page. I think since then and I've never seen One Piece out of the top five on the anime and manga page and it's consistently in the top 20 overall so it's popular. It's going to get a lot of requests. I'm sorry get over it quit sending me the stuff. It's not going to change things. In fact, it just makes me want to stop doing this blog
I personally don't like Naruto ironically due to how it handled its female characters but I still make polls for it when requested. I even allow the curse polls and the memes that have gotten completely out of control. Please quit sending me these stupid messages. That's not what the ask box is for

I finally have time to talk about Lone Trail. I will be focusing on its depiction of science, technology and its progress. Will get a bit political, but funnily enough less than I imagined.
The thing that called my attention most in Lone Trail were the discussions on the nature of scientific progress. This is a theme that’s dear to me and the stuff I research about. It’s easy to think of scientific progress like an inevitable march forward, like an escalator. After all, we are much richer than we were before, right? Go to OurWorldInData dot org to play around with economic statistics in time – make sure to check the World GDP chart, from year 0 to 2000 and see it taking off like a rocket from year 1700.
What kind of Uncle Ted fan or neoluddite would go against that? Haha…hah…
Truth is that, although its effects are there, it’s not a clear if this is the little, neat process techbros want us to believe. It’s new and produces more, therefore it’s good, right? I could be writing this as a new wave of AI-generated NFTs pollute my algorithm.
That’s what makes the storytelling in Arknights so effective: it mashes together fantasy and sci-fi to really tell stories on the role of beliefs, technology, science and religion. The Rhine Lab saga is definitely an exploration of technology, with focus on the equivalent of the United States. During the period before the First World War, 1870-1913 (which is the one that Arknights draws most from), the world underwent through the so-called Second Industrial Revolution and I’ve read economic historians considering it the most innovative period in human history. I mean, obviously, there is an absolute number of inventions in our current age, but in relative terms 1870-1913 experienced a much larger number relative to the previous one.
The escalator narrative constructs scientific achievements as work of daring people (mostly men, but there were women like Marie Cuire), that combined science and technology to help mankind, like Prometheus giving mankind fire from the gods (in fact, one of these books is even named “Prometheus Unbound”); more than often they have to fight against the establishment. Remember Ignaz von Semmelweis? He just wanted doctors to wash their hands. Even I learned this standard narrative in the university. But that’s not the entire story.
The positivistic paradigm – of a science free of value judgements, made with the power of math – has actually helped build this escalator narrative. In reality, some scientists and scholars are horrible people. Later, I learned that Semmelweis, as much as he campaigned for the right thing, was a very arrogant person, who abused everyone around him, to the point few people went to his funeral.
Narratives focusing on one single hero are easy to sell and the ones building them are always on the lookout. Remember how ten years ago, a lot of people tried to push the narrative Elon Musk was going to create a new industrial revolution? Nowadays he’s just an arrogant loser who keeps dragging on his midlife crisis. The 1880s also had similar people like that, such as Thomas Edison.
Kristen Wright is definitely better than them both, because she is actually an engineering genius. But she’s also just like them, in the sense of unethical experiments, collusion with the military-industrial complex and being an overall superficially charismatic, but rotten to the core person. And she’s surrounded by a lot of people like Parvis and Ferdinand.
Breaking this line of reason, I have to say how much I hate Nietzsche’s ubermensch and master-slave morality, I hate Great Men theory, I hate Ayn Rand; these people are sheep who think themselves wolves. And before you say that Nietzsche didn’t consider himself an ubermensch, well, neither did Parvis and his reasoning was the same. For every person fancying themselves ubermensch, there’s a lot of those whom he’d call untermensch to clean up their messes. You have no idea of how times I stumbled upon people (especially libertarians) that advocate lower barriers to regulations that were written in blood, so that progress can happen quicker. Creative destruction works, as long as some people get “creative” and others clean the “destruction”. Deaths and injuries? Acceptable, just give them a pension (but fight tooth and nail in the court to not do it beyond the barest of the bare minimum, because it’ll lower the shareholder profit in 0.01%). Increase in inequality? Nobody will care in a few years, it’ll make everything cheaper anyway (look up Baumol’s cost disease to see how wrong that statement is, without being incorrect). I’m not exaggerating, sometimes the people saying that don’t even bother lacing it in politically correct language.
Because Lone Trail showed it “worked” – Kristen Wright broke off the ceiling over Terra and that will have consequences (especially with Endfield coming closer). The data from her experiments will advance science, the sight of a broken ceiling will inspire artists and prompt politicians to act. Was it worth it? Well, it will depend on who you ask (like, Ifrit or Rosmontis would have strong feelings), but it’s just there now. Serious history isn’t kind on this question as well – many technologies have a lot of transgressions, both legal and ethical, in their supply chain (both the American and Soviet space program come to my mind – guess who helped them); the difference between an entrepreneur and a criminal are contextual, because both are finding new opportunities of profit and both interlock frequently.
In the end, anyone can put an equation that has its uses, not mattering if it’s a good person or not. But that is no excuse to find good ethical practices. Silence saw everything with her own eyes and I’m really glad she’s leading the initiative for a more ethical science in Columbia – especially because people who are willing to break moral rules tend also to be willing to break research rules (this is why the “research” made in concentration camps is actually useless, it didn’t respect experimental rules). So I’m really glad for the Arknights writers for understanding these nuances and communicating them to the audience through one of the best stories of the game.

Earlier this month, American Girl re-released a whole lot of long-retired stuff from Kit Kittredge’s collection.
Tumblr media
Kit herself never actually went anywhere. There was just nothing to buy for her. Doll, book, and that was it. But it’s the 20′s now, and AG is slowly turning the focus back to the historical characters. They’ve finally acknowledged that Kit is an icon and deserves to have the nice things that we all so desperately want to give her.
I was looking at the new stuff on the Wiki because I was curious to see if there were any changes made to anything. It’s part of the “homework” I do for the purposes of doll blogging. While doing that, I noticed that the page for each product mentions how much each item originally cost, alongside what it costs now.
For example: Kit’s school outfit.
Tumblr media
This was first sold for $22 when it was released in 2000, along with the first half of Kit’s debut collection. Now they’re charging $38 for it, an increase of $16 or 72%. I thought that sounded a little excessive, even if 2000 really and truly was more than twenty years ago and inflation has gone wild since the pandemic began three years ago.
So I ran the numbers through the inflation calculator operated by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Tumblr media
Look at that. It’s basically spot on. $22 in 2000, adjusted for inflation, is equivalent to $38.23 in 2023. I’ve been proven wrong.
I did the same calculation for her birthday dress and her pajamas, and those were both pretty much the same, since they were and still are similar in cost to the school outfit.
Now for her cute little scooter, made from a box of California oranges.
Tumblr media
This was a later addition to her collection, coming along in 2006 for the price of $24. In 2023 it is now being sold for $50, a $26 or 108% increase. Let’s see how that tracks when adjusted for inflation.
Tumblr media
Ooof. $24 in 2006 should only be $35.70 in today’s money, or $14.30 less than what it’s actually being sold for. So if this one feels a little overpriced, then it probably is, assuming that the materials and quality are the same. Both versions are made of faux wood, which means that the recently skyrocketing price of wood won’t affect this. Maybe there’s another increased cost somewhere that I’m not aware of. Or maybe AG has added a small nostalgia tax, a sort of “buy it from us or pay big bucks to someone selling it secondhand” reminder.
Another accessory that was brought back was Kit’s school lunch.
Tumblr media
This set includes her metal lunchbox, an embroidered napkin, a cheese sandwich, an oatmeal raisin cookie, apple slices, and for some reason.... three whole entire raw carrots. (There’s nothing wrong with carrots, but like. When’s the last time you’ve even seen an adult eat three whole carrots for lunch. Carrots are huge.)
Anyway. It was sold for $16 when it was released in 2000, and now they’re selling it for $36, a $20 or 125% increase.
Tumblr media
$16 in 2000 would be equivalent to $27.80, so her lunch set is overpriced by $8.20, assuming the cost of materials/labor have risen proportionally.
And finally, Grace the dog. Named for her distinct lack of grace and adorable clumsiness. Sold for $16 when she was released with the second half of Kit’s debut collection. Now selling for $28 which is an increase of $12 or 75%.
Tumblr media
A 75% increase is very similar to Kit’s school outfit selling at a $72% increase, so my guess was that this is going to be a more reasonable price hike.
Tumblr media
Adjusted for inflation, $16 in 2001 is now equivalent to $27.30, so Grace is in fact underpriced by 70 cents! Personally I think AG charges a bit too much for all of their doll pets, but that’s just me.
All of this was really surprising to me. Inflation happens so quietly in everyday life. It’s only been really noticeable in the last three years, when it seems like everything has shot up in price.
The inflation calculator goes all the way back to 1913. Now if you really want to see what those small changes look like after 90 years, check out how much a $150 doll like Kit herself would have cost in 1932, when her stories began:
Tumblr media
You’d only need $6.71 in your pocket to bring Kit home. Imagine that.

I’m scared, and I’m sad. I look at positive news every day, but sometimes things happen that make me derail. What can I do?
It's natural to be scared and sad about this stuff. We live in a world that gives us more information about more people than we were ever designed to handle. And a lot of that information is about really upsetting, tragic, or horrific things.
What I try to do whenever I start to feel like I'm falling into despair, I try to remember to take a long view of history.
Change isn't often visible in the short term because change is so chaotic. But in physics - and I would argue therefore for organisms and humanity as well - chaos at the micro level creates stability at the macro level.
The fact is, statistically, this IS the best time to be alive. It really doesn't feel like it a lot of the time, but it is.
But a lot of things still suck, and sometimes it feels like all the reasons in the world are slipping through your fingers. It can be very easy, sometimes, to give into the despair in the face of all the things humanity has done, to ourselves and to each other.
Here's the one fact I hold on to with all my strength, when all else fails. The one thing that is too powerful to slip through my fingers:
For almost all of human history, until the past roughly 200 years, the child mortality rate was about 50%.
Sure, it varied based on location and century and the hygiene practices of the dominant culture. But overall, it was about 50%, with child morality defined as any infant or child who dies before their 15th birthday.
That means that half of all people born died before their 15th birthday.
Most of human history, as famous journalist and nonfiction author Bill Bryson puts it, was "overwhelmingly a place of tiny coffins."
Imagine how fucking awful that would be to live with. Imagine all the extra grief and pain and suffering flooding the world.
That fact alone basically guarantees that ever single person who ever lived, until very, very recently, was traumatized, or died before they could be. And that's leaving out the rampant trauma of famine, nonfatal disease, exposure, violence, and everything else that can come from a lack of resources or just the brutal vagaries of nature.
But we don't live in that world anymore. We live in a world where we have reduced child mortality from 40% to 3.7% in just two hundred years.
And those rates are going to keep falling as developing nations with higher child mortality rates get access to better infrastructure, medical care, and resource distribution.
So this is what I cling to, when I can cling to nothing else: no matter how bad things are, no matter how much technology fucks things up, technology and progress have freed us from the hell of half of all our children dying.
We have already done so, so much to free ourselves from one of - if not the - absolute worst curses of human existence
The world has improved so, so much more that most people can even imagine - more than our ancestors could have ever expected - just from that one fact. In just a couple of centuries.
What isn't that worth? Very, very, very little, I'd argue.
The challenges we're facing are formidable. Just a few years ago, they looked insurmountable. From child mortality to climate change, we still have so much more to do.
But if we can save ourselves and our children from a mortality rate that was, for almost all of human history, an inevitable part of the human condition...
Then what can't we do? What won't we be able to achieve, in the end?
Again, I'd argue: very, very, very little.

Inspiration Saturday
Tagged by @forthewolves @prince-buck-diaz and @heartbeatdiaz Thanks!! xx
This song is on repeat as I write my Buddie MMA Rivals AU I don’t mind if we fight, If you make me bleed and also the inspiration for the name:
"Take it out, take it out, take it out on me
I don't mind if we fight, if you make me bleed
If you wanna let out just a little bit of steam
Take it out on me"
The whole Buddie MMA Rivals AU playlist
And here's a snippet:
“So your last coach sent over his notes, workout plans etc but we can get into that tomorrow, I was thinking it's your first day and well it’s probably been a lot already, especially Buck,” Chim sighs, “He’s a good egg, he’s just going through stuff at the moment.” Eddie nods, not sure if he truly believes it but knows these people obviously like Buckley so he must have some redeeming qualities. He must look sceptical because Chim continues, “He’s normally like a golden retriever but it's been a hard few months so just don’t take it personally.” “I can handle Buckley, I don’t know if Ravi can though”  Chim barks out a laugh, “You caught that huh?” “I think everyone noticed, they’re not exactly subtle” “Yeah, we joke that Athena brought two kids into the marriage, May and Harry, Bobby brought one, Buck.” “Look it’s none of my business,” Even if he was curious, “I’m just here to fight, but it’s affecting me, pairing Buck up with Ravi?” His old gym had only one other UFC fighter, so they had always been paired together for sparring, the fact that Bobby hadn’t done that today was concerning.  “Buck has a habit of pushing himself too hard, Bobby is over-correcting, they’ll sort it out soon, don’t worry.” But Eddie was worried there had been many reasons why Eddie had chosen the 118 fighters, not just their good statistics but when Eddie had decided to move out of El Paso, Tia Pepa had insisted that he came to LA so she and Abuela could help him with Christopher. There were no other UFC clubs in LA so if it didn’t work here he would have to move somewhere he would have no support system. It was hard enough with Tia Pepa and Abuela, already felt like he was failing Christopher, and could hear his parent's voices telling him that he would be better off with them, without him. So this had to work, he was going to make it work even if Buckley hates his guts.

obligatory 'time to panic about ai' post, feat. (imo) only reasonable panic
"people are feeding unfinished fics to chatgpt & co" uncool! goes against fandom etiquette! but also: your fics have already fed the ai. being freely accessible, they were part of the datasets used to train the ai tools, so some random person feeding them to the machine is not really helping train the algorythm any more than it already was. if anything is worrying there, it's what the practice reveals about the culture of reader entitlement and that of turning art into 'content'. possibly, considering the ai tools are stupid and atm actual creativity is way beyond them, it also illustrates just how formulaic and interchangeable a lot of fics are. people keep posting about wanting to read ten thousand similarly-treated variations on the same premise, well there you have it: ai tools can make it happen.
statistically speaking we already went past the point were ai tools were taught from datasets of only human-made writing and art. the hypedom would have you believe ai can only get better from there, but considering that the more time passes the more ai tools will be trained on ai-generated stuff, it's just as likely we're going to see a learning loop of sorts happen and ai will remain dumb as fuck.
there is a real language problem when it comes to talking about ai, starting by the fact that ai is not intelligent. it doesn't learn and it isn't trained. it can only frankenstein mashup already existing creations, usually within set limits. the fact that we can pretend it could at some point soon replace actual writers, again, says more about the culture than it does ai tools.
i would worry more about things like what impact ai-generated children books could have on kids than its impact on fandom if i were you.

Showing my work
(WARNING: LOTS OF WORDS)
Shorter post
This post is about how I came to those conclusions, and also some commentary.
As always, a person's score is the percent of other players they did better than, it is equal to (total players-placement)/(total players-1) x100
This post took longer to make than the predictions
Part 1: The initial scores
I've been collecting data on the Life Series for a while (not in a creepy way), so I used that to predict each player's score for the next season.
I used 7 main statistics to show what could affect the next season (even though most of these should not have any affect), placement, teammates, who they eliminated, if they were one of the newest or second newest Hermitcraft members, team size, who they were the first person to kill, and who was eliminated before them.
I also used this stuff
Tumblr media
Once I did all that, I went through each person and found the average of all the applicable stats to get these initial scores:
Gem: 70.96, Gem has the highest expected scores for previous placement (3rd, because Martyn got 3rd in LL and DL, and then won LimL, and Scott got 3rd in LimL and 4th in SL, which leads to an average score of 76.88 the next season (4th place)), and player eliminated (Grian, who has only been eliminated by Scott before SL (92.31)), the third best player to eliminate in the previous season is Scott (71.96), who was also eliminated by Gem, because of all this, Gem has the highest expected score, even though Impulse's past teammates do the worse on average (33.85)
Scott: 63.43, 4th place is the second highest (Pearl winning DL and getting 2nd in SL after getting 4th(70.91)), and the player who eliminates Joel does well the next season (89.1), which is mostly because Scott has eliminated Joel 3/4 times
Skizz: 60.74, 14th place doesn't do well the next season, but BigB is the second best teammate (64.08) (third best of you count no team), but what really helps him is that he was eliminated after Tango (85.1, Ren got 2nd, Bdubs got 6th, and Scar won), and that he is one of the newest Hermitcraft members (87.88, Pearl and Gem have always been in the top 4)
Scar: 59.83, obviously, first place does well the next season (67.31), and so do people who did not have a team (83.97, Joel got 5th in LL, Pearl got 4th and Martyn won in LimL), but he is brought down by being the first to get an elimination (34.01, Skizz got 15th in LL, Grian got 10th in DL and Etho got 12th in SL)
Martyn: 59.63, Jimmy's teammates actually do very well the next season (63.8), but everything else for Martyn is mostly average
Etho: 58.14
Pearl: 58.06, Pearl is one of the second newest Hermitcraft members (78.125, which is just Grian's average score), but is brought down by the fact that 2nd place does not do well the next season (53.125, Scar getting 9th in LL and Ren getting 12th in DL)
Joel: 55.31, they are helped by being a new member of Hermitcraft (87.88461538), but 5th place doesn't do well (49.04, Impulse in LL, Joel in DL, Etho in SL), and neither does the player who eliminates Skizz (46.79, Ren in DL, Etho in SL)
Impulse: 54.43, the last yellow does well (82.09), but 7th doesn't (43.99)
Bdubs: 53.63
Cleo: 53.34
Lizzie: 52.65424679, Lizzie started with an extreme disadvantage by getting 17th (0), but is helped by not having any teammates in SL (83.97), which actually counts twice, for both score of teammates (no one) and size of team (1 person).
Grian: 52.54520586, Cleo and Etho's teammates typically do below average the next season (47.42 and 42.84), but Martyn is the third best to eliminate (73.08), after Joel and Grian, who have both been eliminated by Scott all but one time (excluding times they were not killed by a player)
Tango: 48.62208105, The only reason Tango is above BigB is because BigB and Skizz's teammates do well the next season, but Tango's teammates don't
BigB: 47.7857906
Jimmy: 46.14983974
Mumbo: 40.81517669
Part 2: The Teams
While the first part was completely based on stats, I had to use my brain for this
I decided to make one person be alone, three teams of 2, two teams of 3, and one team of 4, since that was kind of close to how teams usually are
I found the average score of each team size, and put everyone into groups where the average predicted score (I used the actual score for this part, which means first place would get 100, second would get 93.75, so on) would be close to the predicted team score
After that, I added the predicted team score to each player's predicted score, and moved a few things around so that each team would be as close as possible to what was expected for that size team. This is what I ended up with:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You may notice that some players' placements have changed, Gem is still first, but Scott and Skizz switched, as well as Etho and Martyn, and a few others.
The screenshots are a bit hard to read so the teams (which are the same as in the shorter post) are:
Pearl
Scar and Grian
Lizzie and Joel
Martyn and BigB
Gem, Jimmy, and Tango
Cleo, Mumbo and Scott
Skizz, Bdubs, Etho, Impulse (Team BISE?)
The average score for the teams are fairly close to the expectation for that size team, but Lizzie and Joel and Martyn and BigB's are about 10 points too low, and I could not find a way to fix it that also worked with each player's typical team size (and I liked these teams and didn't want to change them)
Part 3: Final scores and events
Tumblr media
Using the score of the first yellow, first red, etc, I figured out who it was most likely to be
Last Green: Joel
Killed Last Green: Lizzie
Last Yellow: Scar
Killed Last Yellow: Martyn
First yellow: Grian
First Red: Impulse
First Kill: Pearl
First to be killed: Joel
We have to assume that this simulated season has more then three lives, because Joel would not be able to be the first killed and last green normally. Technically, this was possible in Last Life and Limited Life, so it may happen. Joel also caused another problem, because he was predicted to be killed by Lizzie, his teammate. My solution to this was to assume that players can get something from getting kills, which happened in LimL and SL.
To decide who each player is killed by, I averaged the average deaths until their killer dies, and the average score of the person who eliminates that place.
Now, I had one more thing to do, alliances.
Using which teams killed and were killed by each other the most, I split the server into two factions, I wasn't specifically aiming for two, but it worked out that way
Side 1:
Pearl (Team 1), Martyn, BigB (Team 4), Gem, Tango, Jimmy(Team 5), Scott, Cleo, and Mumbo (Team 6)
Side 2:
Skizz, Etho, Impulse, Bdubs (Team 7), Scar, Grian(Team 2), Joel, and Lizzie (Team 3)
Then, I tried my best to guess how things would go once everyone or almost everyone is red:
9 vs 8
Impulse and Etho kill Mumbo, Jimmy, Tango, and BigB
5 vs 8
Cleo, Pearl, and Martyn fight Grian, Lizzie, Bdubs, and Joel
Joel kills Cleo, but Martyn kills Grian and Bdubs and Pearl kills Lizzie
Martyn kills Joel
4 vs 4
Pearl fights Impulse and Scar, Impulse lets Scar kill him, and Scar kills Pearl
3 vs 3
The final 6 meet and decide to have one final fight
Martyn betrays Gem and Scott, but Scott kills him (or Martyn lets Scott kill him, but betrayal is far more likely for Martyn)
Gem kills Etho and Scar, and Scott lets Gem kill him (again)
Gem kills Skizz and wins
For this to work, the rules have to be similar to Limited Life, because of teammates killing each other and Joel dying first and being the last Green
The end

As we are now in the last month of the year, it's time to do a year roundup I think? (if you are willing) Of all their channels which is just their main one and reacts I guess.
Best Sam and Colby video of the year?
Worst Sam and Colby video of the year?
Saddest/most emotional Sam and Colby video of the year?
Happiest Sam and Colby video of the year?
Funniest Sam and Colby video of the year?
And what do we all hope for, with the upcoming year? (Like what do you want to see more or less of?)
(I sent this to a couple SnC blogs cos I'm super interested to see what peoples answers are)
I LOVE this idea, anon, and am excited to see what the other blogs who answer this come up with!
Edited to add: I just realized that I completely forgot the react channel was a thing and didn't take any of that into account here, lmao sorry about that!
Best Sam and Colby video of the year:
From a statistical analytic standpoint, the best video they did this year in terms of hype, viewership, engagement, etc. was by far episode one of their Conjuring video. That video sold out movie theaters, got mainstream interest (good and bad), trended on youtube for days, and will honestly probably be the thing that wins them a Streamy next year...maybe even a Kids/Teen/People's Choice? Who knows!
But, as far as what I, personally, resident grandma of snc tumblr thought was the best? I have to give it to Chillingham, with Hell Fire Caves following closely behind. I loved everything about Chillingham - the guests were perfect, snc's vibes were great, the place was spooky, they had fun but not the kind of fun that debunkers will cancel them for lol...it was just peak, perfect snc. Hell Fire runs a close second for the same reasons, and honestly would've gotten first except for the fact that I preferred the Chillingham tour guide over the HF Cave tour guide (no offense, if you're out there somewhere, but the Chillingham guide was awesome).
Worst Sam and Colby video of the year:
Again, purely from a statistical standpoint, the Whaley House video in January seems to have performed the worst - and honestly, for good reason. It was boring, and Lexi was clearly not into doing this type of content. She seems like a lovely person, no knock on her, but when someone just does not want to be there, it does not translate well.
Also, it's important to note that this video was filmed 4 days before Colby was diagnosed with cancer, and tbh? I think the bad physical health vibes came through in this as well. He was in pain and not really in the mood to be doing this stuff, and no matter how good you are at putting on a brave face for the camera, things like that will seep through and affect the vibe.
Now, is that my least favorite, or the one I think was the worst? No. It was close, but I honestly didn't even watch all the way through of the one with Celina and Kris in the mansion, cause I found it so annoying (yes, I find them profoundly annoying at times; do not come screaming into my ask box about it) so by default, that one wins my "worst of" for the year.
Saddest/most emotional Sam and Colby video of the year:
Statistically speaking, I feel like the Conjuring Epsiode One has this one in the bag.
But, I think we all know the cancer vid was truly, deeply emotional for a lot of reasons. What they both (primarily Colby) went through with that journey over a period of six months and the way he told his story was just...emotional. Happy emotional, sad emotional, scared emotional...all the feels. And it ends in a feel good way, so that's fantastic!
Happiest Sam and Colby video of the year:
This one was hard, because honestly, I think all of their videos have an element of happiness to them, simply because these two just love being together and filming together with their friends.
That being said, I'm going to think outside the box here and say any of the podcasts they appeared on this year. That's where their giggly, happy personalities really shine through.
Funniest Sam and Colby video of the year:
Believe it or not, I found the video with Tommy and Jack to be hilarious (for probably the wrong reasons, but hilarious nonetheless). Tommy and Jack were the irreverant, disrespectful young teen jokesters and snc were the horrified, shocked and out of touch old people trying to parent these children the entire time. That made my old ass laugh a lot.
And what do we all hope for, with the upcoming year? (Like what do you want to see more or less of?):
Above all else, all I want for both of them in 2024 is good physical and mental health. They've had a roller coaster this year (especially Colby on the health front) and even though they claim to enjoy the roller coaster ride, I think it'll do them well to have one year filled with peace and maybe just a nice, leisurely ride on the lazy river instead, or something.
Video wise? I think I've said all this last year and none of it came true lol, but a girl can dream. All I want are 3 simple things:
Less streamers
More snc solo investigations
Can Colby please start leaning a little more into his intuition and "empathic" energy? Please?
Oh and a bonus #4 that I know @golbrocklovely will back me up on: please god do a whole series in Pennsylvania. We could give them a million +1 ideas of cool places to go to in PA if they would just...show up, lol.

ok so @grimmshood asked about otoso... and what might happen when oso looses at the horses ... hehe
So i think... I'm imagining a scenario, early in their 'relationship' ... and i put that in quotes because I think ... well we know that osomatsu is very ... non confrontational? well maybe thats not the word... like the whole thing in 'Just Don't' when he hides casue Nyaa wants to go on a date with him ... And Otome is... well they're very ... casual? I dont think either would really bring up the fact that they CAN be something official, you know? I dunno, im geunineley still not sure on a lot of their dynamic, it's still in the ... baby stages i guess? I havent put a lot of thought into them because a: maoichi is my top priority, and b: I still have this lingering guilt in my heart for liking oso (personal reasons, being i dont want ichi to be upset with me because im THAT dilulu about self shipping, as well as... well ... i love people that are polymatsu but i feel guilty abt it i guess i dunno gomen)
Anyway, this is... before they really figure out that what they're doing is considered 'dating/seeing each other' Oso invites Otome to the races with him cause theyve never been so they go, and he just talks up how great hes gonna do, and he's gonna win aaaaaaall this money and treat them to a nice hot meal. They curiously ask him about his methods and ways of picking a winner and stuff, and he goes on and on about his statistics and how it just feels right and stuff
and then he looses, and he looses the money that otome gifts him to bet ...
and he's all down about it and is feeling just a little bit embarrassed but he doesnt show it at all. And otome lets him know that even tho he didn't win, she still had a fun time and enjoyed the atmosphere, and the horses are cute
and then they fuck under the stands or something... in the bathroom? in a corner somewhere? the two are total horndog freaks...

if you get this, answer with three random facts about yourself and send it to the last seven blogs in your notifs! anon or not, doesn’t matter, let’s get to know the person behind the blog <3
Oh hell yes, I love these! 3 random facts:
1. I can't lie. In any capacity. I will break in 2 seconds. My face shows my every thought, clear as day. Not that I have much reason TO lie; I just couldn't, ever, even to save my own ass. RIP me in that case. (Shout-out to Jemma Simmons, representing girls who are shit at lying!)
2. I LOVE animals, to the point that I wanted to be a zookeeper when I was younger. I get mad when I overhear people being wrong about animals in public and feel the burning need to correct complete strangers over it. I once led a debate in third grade over animal-based statistics, where I came in with a file full of my evidence backing my side. Swept the competition, btw.
3. I have multiple paranormal experiences. Which is lovely. Because otherwise, I probably wouldn't believe in the lot of it. But honestly, the stuff that has happened, I can't explain. (Like getting yanked several steps backward in the middle of an empty school hallway by the backpack. Are you KIDDING me?) At the end of the day, I can't prove it, and I am cursed with telling stories that no one but my mother believes.

Thank you for answering our question! I do agree Dissociadid is a poorly managed youtube project and honestly they aren't well researched enough to be "educating" on their disorder with the amount of stuff they get wrong, they can be valid and be irresponsible!
I wish in the future they'd apologise further and address the positive sides to fusion, because it's not always seen as loss to some I suppose! Again, thanks for answering us! Have an amazing day /g
-The system from the dissociadid ask lmao
Yeah no for sure. Honestly people that say the things they put out are Fake and Do Not Happen are honestly just isolating systems who do experience similar things and by proxy fakeclaiming people who relate to how they talk on things. Saying things like "uncommon" and "most systems" saves a lot of people pain and helps keep things a lot more accurate than absolutes
Plus a thing I do have to say that I talked about with my fiance who works in advertising and marketting, but the most popular versions of things that get attention tend to be the most extreme ends of things and while a lot of things might not align with the majority, you can typically expect a lot of people who have larger followings to typically also have extreme traits and standing out ways of existing than the norm. So just cause something is uncommon doesn't mean its inherently fake or that it would be "statistically weird" for them to be part of the uncommon group
Even for us, we have a number of uncommon symptoms and we are oddly high functioning and communicative for both our age and the fact we are polyfragmented. The way we experience DID is gonna be very very different than most, so I'd be a hypocrite to say "oh thats uncommon thus fake" cause nah. We don't support that rhetoric
Do we think they are suspicious? Eh sure kinda? But do we care enough to genuinely speculate? Nah. Like theyre just a person online who I hardly know anything about. Theres no reason to think so hard about them, have them on my mind, and try to come to conclusions from what they share publicly. The only thing I can say is that I don't like them / their content and I am heavily critical of them as a content creator and ""DID representation""

The simplest breakdown I can manage on what empathy is(plus related vocabulary) and why low empathy is not the same thing as terrible person
If anyone wants to make a less convoluted version please go ahead
Empathy: Comprehension of others emotions
-This can fluctuate depending on situation. Like many people have more empathy towards people who share their morals or towards animals
Affective empathy: A subcategory of empathy surrounding sharing in others emotions
-Examples: Crying at a sad movie, feeding off other people's emotions, phantom pains
-Similar things that are not empathy: Being happy for someone else or angry on their behalf, getting angry that someone is unfairly angry at you
Cognitive empathy: understanding and recognizing other people's emotions
-Examples: Noticing when someone is happy, being able to intuitively determine the source of other people's emotions, recognizing that someone is yelling due to excitement
-Similar things that are not empathy: Having a list of reasons from past experience that could apply to a situation, copying or scripting off other people's conversations, treating others' emotions clinically(Aka I had a hyperfixation on psychology growing up and I base my interactions with others off studies+statistics. This isn't empathy because I'm not figuring this stuff out, I'm literally using generalized facts someone else told me. It's not empathy to go according to google malnourishment lowers grades, therefore consider that someone being malnourished may be lowering their grades. It's empathy to go, being hungry is distracting for me so I bet it's what's distracting this other person.)
High or hyperempathy: Unusually high levels of empathy. Often but not always connected to mirror empathy
Low empathy: Unusually low levels of empathy. I have low cognitive empathy so I struggle to read other people or understand viewpoints that don't match my own
No empathy: Does not experience meaningful or relative amounts of empathy. I have virtually no affective empathy. I have maybe cried or teared up twice actually related to the plot of a movie, gore has little effect on me, I do not wince or get alarmed when other people get injured, honestly this subject is difficult to elaborate on because I have almost zero experiences with affective empathy. I genuinely cannot wrap my head around the concept
Compassion: Your "warmth"/caring and desire to help other people.
-This is SEPARATE from empathy. You can have empathy and not compassion. You can have compassion and not empathy.
-I am a very compassionate person. I do not need to understand how you feel to care about you. Heck, I do not even need to care about a person at all to consider it the morally correct thing to help them
Low compassion/high compassion/no compassion: Same as empathy, just for compassion instead.
Altruism: Many people consider this a subcategory of compassion/Many don't. It's basically the idea you do things because it's the moral or right thing to do.
Sympathy: Nearly as hard for me to explain as affective empathy. It's like.. How you feel about others kinda? Usually expressed in a negative sense, like I am so sorry that happened to you, but it can also be I'm so happy your happy if that makes sense??
None of these things single handedly decide someone's morality.
Heck, I've met people who consider themselves low empathy, compassion, and sympathy who still rock. But those nuances are better left to those people
People who are low or no empathy don't need empathy to be good people.
Low empathy is NOT morality, and everytime people act like it is they are furthering stigmatization of low empathy.
A lot of really awful people have medium or high levels of empathy. A lot of really good people have low/no empathy. If you don't understand how that is refer to what I said about you do not need to understand someone to care about them or want to help them.
I don't judge people who want to learn or didn't realize this stuff.
If you got this far thank you for reading this.
