World's Oldest Leather Shoe, from Armenia, c.3500 BCE: this prehistoric shoe dates back to about 5,500 years ago, making it the oldest leather shoe in the world
Tumblr media
The shoe was found within a cave in the Vayots Dzor province of Armenia, where it had been preserved beneath a layer of sheep dung for more than five millennia.
From the BBC:
At 5,500 years old, the well preserved cow-hide shoe pre-dates Stonehenge by 400 years and the Pyramids of Giza by 1,000 years.
It was made of a single piece of leather and was shaped to fit the wearer's foot, researchers say.
The shoe contained grass, although the archaeologists are uncertain as to whether this was to keep the foot warm or to maintain the shape of the footwear.
Archaeologists put the shoe's remarkable preservation down to the stable, cool and dry conditions in the cave, and the fact that the floor of the cave was covered by a thick layer of sheep dung. This layer of excrement acted as a solid seal, preserving it over the millennia.
According to researchers, the shoe was deliberately buried in a clay-lined pit located within the cave system, though it's unclear why it was originally buried there. The evidence suggests that the shoe was more than just a ritual object -- an imprint of the wearer's big toe is still visible in the leather, and there is a significant amount of wear along the heel and ball of the foot.
This is the oldest leather shoe that has ever been discovered, but older shoes made of plant fiber have been found at sites in Missouri and Oregon. The oldest shoes ever discovered come from Oregon's Fort Rock Cave, where archaeologists unearthed dozens of sandals dating back to about 10,000 years ago.

So my problem with most ‘get to know your character’ questioneers is that they’re full of questions that just aren’t that important (what color eyes do they have) too hard to answer right away (what is their greatest fear) or are just impossible to answer (what is their favorite movie.)  Like no one has one single favorite movie. And even if they do the answer changes.
If I’m doing this exercise, I want 7-10 questions to get the character feeling real in my head. So I thought I’d share the ones that get me (and my students) good results:
What is the character’s go-to drink order? (this one gets into how do they like to be publicly perceived, because there is always some level of theatricality to ordering drinks at a bar/resturant)
What is their grooming routine? (how do they treat themselves in private)
What was their most expensive purchase/where does their disposable income go? (Gets you thinking about socio-economic class, values, and how they spend their leisure time)
Do they have any scars or tattoos? (good way to get into literal backstory)
What was the last time they cried, and under what circumstances? (Good way to get some *emotional* backstory in.)
Are they an oldest, middle, youngest or only child? (This one might be a me thing, because I LOVE writing/reading about family dynamics, but knowing what kinds of things were ‘normal’ for them growing up is important.)
Describe the shoes they’re wearing. (This is a big catch all, gets into money, taste, practicality, level of wear, level of repair, literally what kind of shoes they require to live their life.)
Describe the place where they sleep. (ie what does their safe space look like. How much (or how little) care / decoration / personal touch goes into it.)
What is their favorite holiday? (How do they relate to their culture/outside world. Also fun is least favorite holiday.)
What objects do they always carry around with them? (What do they need for their normal, day-to-day routine? What does ‘normal’ even look like for them.)

One More Chance
Tumblr media
Pairing: Rúben Dias x Reader
Summary: After two boys, Rúben still wants to try for the girl.
Word count: 3756
Warming: Smut (a terrible attempt)
Author's note: English is not my first language.
It all started after the birth of his best mate's daughter. Rúben and you have been together since high school and had two beautiful boys. Thiago who was 5 and Miguel who was 2 years old. While the oldest was very talkative and loved football as much as Rúben, the youngest was a quiet boy who was starting to show his interest in the piano that you had near the window and used to play when you were younger.
After Miguel and a very difficult pregnancy, you and Rúben had decided that two children were the ideal, but it was no secret to you that Rúben always wanted to try for a girl. He always wanted to have a girl and you too, but Miguel's pregnancy was so difficult that you didn't want to go through it again. The birth of Bernardo's daughter brought the baby fever back and Ruben was actually nervous to meet the baby girl.
"Babe, you missed the exit!" Your words brought him back to reality and he realized he was diving on the wrong road. He mumbled a curse to himself, as the kids were in the backseat, and turned around. "You okay?" He looked at you and couldn't help but check you out. You were wearing a long orange summer dress, your face makeup free and your wavy hair down.
"I'm fine." You gave him a smile and ran your hand on his hair as he put his hand on your thigh.
Rúben parked in front of Bernardo's house and helped Miguel out of his seat while you helped Thiago who was holding the gift he and his brother had chosen for the baby girl. They were both excited to meet her. Rúben, however, was really quiet, but you decided you would question him later.
Upon entering the warm and inviting house, you couldn't help but notice the abundance of pink boxes and toys that were already cluttering the dining table. You warmly greeted Bernardo with a hug and after a bit of playful teasing from Rúben, he also greeted your two boys.
Ines was sitting on the sofa and your face lit up when you saw the baby in her arms.
"Hello, mommy!" You sat down next to her and gave her a kiss on the head. When you looked down your heart melted. "She's so beautiful, Ines." You grabbed her little hand, melting even more, about the size difference.
"Do you want to hold her?"
"Yes, please." Ines carefully placed the baby in your arms and your boys sat down next to you, so they could see her better. "Hi, sweetie. Welcome to the world. You're such a beautiful girl."
Rúben was watching you, frozen in place. His gaze locked onto you cradling the baby, gently swaying back and forth. Ines caught him and let out a chuckle, breaking him free from his reverie.
He finally embraced Ines. "Congratulations. She's beautiful. Thank god, she looks like you."
"Thank you, Rúben." She whispered in his ear. "Maybe it's time to work for a girl, don't you think? She looks great with a girl in her arms."
Rúben blushed. "I-- yeah! She does."
You ended up having lunch with them, while Thiago and Miguel remained by the baby's side, acting like caring older siblings. It was noticeable the tiredness in both their faces, so after lunch you decided to leave, so they could get some much-needed rest.
When you got home, and before their hunger kicked in again, you called out to them, telling them it was time for a bath. They giggled and ran ahead, eager to get into the warm, soapy water.
"Go on. I'll be there in a minute." You took off your shoes and let out a sigh. Before you could follow them upstairs, Rúben gently grabbed your hand.
"Seat down on the sofa and get some rest. I'll take care of them." His voice was soft and so was his hand going up and down your arm.
"Okay!" He leaned in and you closed your eyes, anticipating a kiss. Instead, his lips met your forehead.
You noticed something strange about him. He was generally a calm and quiet person, but today he was even quieter than usual. You also realized that he hadn't kissed you since the day before, which was unusual as well.
In the bathroom, Rúben was drying Miguel's hair, when Thiago asked him something that caught him completely off guard.
"Dad?"
"Yeah?"
"Can we have a sister?" Rúben could swear his heart stopped beating for a few seconds. Was the world messed with him?
"What?"
"A sister. Just like Uncle Bernardo's baby."
It was hard to leave Rúben speechless, but his kids knew how to do that perfectly.
"Yes." Miguel intervened. "We want one."
"Having a baby it's a lot of work, especially for mum." Rúben finally spoke. "She needs to grow the baby inside her belly and sometimes that's difficult."
"We can help her. We can take care of her and the baby."
Rúben cursed in his mind. What was going on? He asked himself. Why was everything going back to the baby?
He was having the worst baby fever ever. He knew you wouldn't want to go through with it, so he was trying to hide it the best way possible, but the way things were going, it was going to be difficult.
"We'll think about that, okay?" He said so they could drop the subject.
After dinner, you sat down on the sofa with the family, watching a cooking show that you loved. For your luck, the two kids didn't care to watch what you or Rúben wanted to see. The only thing they cared about was cuddling against their dad, as it was not every day they got the chance to do so.
It didn't take long for Miguel to fall asleep in Rúben's lap. Thiago had his eyes still open, but you could see how tired her was and how hard he was trying to stay awake.
You hit Rúben's leg with your feet, catching his attention. "Miguel's asleep!"
He looked down and saw the boy with his eyes closed and mouth slightly open, sleeping against his chest.
"Will you bring Thiago, please?" He asked you, as he stood up with the boy in his arms, like he didn't weigh anything. You nodded and picked Thiago up. He didn't fight it and that only made you smile. A big smile.
The truth was that you had been horny since you got back, and Rúben walking around the house in shorts and a t-shirt that hugged his torso perfectly wasn't helping you at all.
You had been sitting on the sofa, hoping your kids would fall asleep soon so you could take Rúben to your bedroom, lock the door and just let him out in the morning and it looked like the lord had heard your prayers.
You tucked the two boys one last time in their beds and kissed their foreheads. They were the best thing that had happened to you.
Rúben watched you from the doorway, and memories of your pregnancy flooded his mind. You were always a beautiful woman, but carrying his children made you even more radiant. He couldn't be happier that you were the mother of his kids. And all he wanted was to have you as--
"Rúben?"
He got distracted again. He had been like this all day and you were starting to get worried. Had something happened? You thought.
"Sorry. Got distracted." You closed the door and followed him toward the living room.
"I can see that. Did something happen? You've been weird all day." You looked at him as he sat down once again on the sofa, his arm resting on top of it, highlighting the veins in his arms.
"I'm fine. Just tired, I guess." He patted the sit next to him, and you sat down. Now it was your time to cuddle against him. But you didn't want to cuddle. You wanted something else.
"You know," you started. "You haven't kissed me all day."
Rúben looked at you and smirked. "Oh, really?" You nodded and pouted. "Why should I be the one to initiate it? You didn't kiss me either!"
You didn't say anything to him, you just cupped his face and kissed him passionately. He was taken aback, but he soon responded by placing his hand on the back of your head, drawing you nearer. The kiss was intense yet tender at the same time.
You didn't have to wait long for a full make-out session on the sofa, but you knew you had to take things to the bedroom before your kids woke up and found you in that situation with their dad. To your surprise, he was the one who broke the kiss and pushed you away.
You weren't the only one horny, as you could see the bulge in his shorts. His eyes were dark and when he grabbed your hand and turned off the TV, you knew the night was going to be good.
Inside the bedroom, he locked the door and pushed you against the wall. Before kissing you again, he pulled off your his shirt and quickly pulled down your sweatpants, leaving you only in your non-matching underwear.
He cupped your face and kissed you fervently. You could feel every inch of him against you and that only made you even wetter.
As he tilted his head sideways and began kissing your neck, you took the chance to grab the hem of his shirt and pull it off. Even after years together, his body always made you bite your lip like it was the first time you were seeing him naked.
You ran your hands down his abs and Rúben unlocked your bra. When you tried to take off his shorts, he pulled your hands away, pinning them above your head.
He leaned his forehead against yours. "Shouldn't we use a condom?" His voice was deep.
You looked confused at him. "What are you talking about? I'm on birth control." You didn't know what was going on with him. You didn't even remember the last time he used a condom.
You brushed it off and pushed him back, making him fall in the bed. You quickly took off your panties and straddled him. You didn't give him enough time to think, because before he knew you pulled his dick out of his boxers and lined it up to your entrance before slowly going down.
Your head fell down as a moan left your lips. Rúben gripped your hips as you sank down, feeling you squeeze him the way you always did.
After you took a minute to adjust to his size, like you always had to do, you started to rock your hips. Rúben pulled your hair back and cupped your face, making you lock your eyes with his. You could see the pleasure on his face and that only made you move faster.
You had been so horny that you could feel your orgasm building up and so did Rúben, because he quickly turned you around, so you were on your back, with him now on top. His thrusts were deep and rough. One of his hands cupped your breast as he pinched your hard nipple, and the other around your neck gripping it, but not too hard to hurt you.
"Look at me!" He told you. "If you close your eyes, I'll stop." He leaned his forehead against yours and you opened your eyes. "You gonna cum?"
You swallowed a lump in your throat. "Yes."
It took only a few more hard and deeper thrusts and you were coming apart underneath him. Rúben's hand over your mouth, covering your loud moans. He didn't stop to let you recover, he only went faster, searching for his own orgasm.
Your nails were digging into his back and you started whispering dirty things in his ear, trying to make him cum, because if he didn't come sooner, the one having an orgasm was going to be you again. Not that you minded.
"Come inside me! I love when you come inside me."
Rúben was almost there. Almost there. But then there it was. His thoughts playing tricks on him. Once again.
"Rúben, I'm pregnant! You're going to be a dad!"
"Do you still like me fat?" - "Stop it, you're not fat, you're pregnant."
"It's a boy!" - "I knew it."
"It's a boy." - "Stop putting boys in me, Dias."
"I don't want to do it again. Don't be mad. I just can't." - "Love, it's okay. It's okay. We have two healthy boys. You gave me more than I could ask for. You're the most wonderful woman I know. I love you."
He groaned and quickly pulled out as he came on your stomach, the warm liquid spreading over your abdomen.
Saying you were surprised he pulled out, was an understatement. You were shocked. He loved to come inside you. He always comes inside you. Why was today different?
"Rúben--"
"Sorry!" His chest moved up and down quickly. "I-- I don't know why I pulled out." He lied.
"You're lying!" You knew him better than he knew himself.
Ignoring you, he stood up and went into the bathroom. He cleaned himself and grabbed a cloth to clean you off. He always took care of you.
You watched him as he cleaned you off in silence. All of a sudden, it was like he was sad about something. It was all going well, he was acting as the same lover as always, but at the last minute something switched and you weren't going to sleep until you knew what had happened.
After he cleaned you off, he put on his boxers, kissed your forehead and told you he was going to brush his teeth.
You took a minute to come to your senses. You pulled on his shirt that was lying on the floor and followed him into the bathroom, closing the door behind you for some reason.
"What's going on? And don't you dare say it's nothing."
Rúben looked at you through the mirror. "What are you talking about?"
You crossed your arms over your chest. "You've been acting weird. You didn't kiss me this morning. You've been quiet, only talking when I or the boys asked you something. And now, you don't want to come inside me? Like… What is it?"
Rúben was not a good liar. Never was. And when he tried to be, you always found out. So lying to you was only going to make things worse.
"I..."
"Turn around when you're talking to me, Dias."
He turned around and leaned against the bathroom sink. "I don't know how to tell you."
"Tell me what?"
"I'mhavingbabyfever!" He said it so quickly that you didn't even realise what came out of his mouth.
"What? One of the boys has a fever?" Your eyes widened.
Rúben let out a sigh. "It's not them, it's me."
You furrowed your eyebrows. "You have a fever?" You took a step closer and put up your hand on his forehead. "You're not even warm. What are you talking about?"
Rúben grabbed your hand from his forehead and placed it over his heart. "It's not that kind of fever."
You were feeling pretty stupid because you didn't understand what he was trying to say. "Is there any other kind of fever?" You were getting frustrated. "You're not making any sense."
He cupped your face and looked at you. "I'm having baby fever." He said slowly. You went numb at his words. "Seeing you holding Bernardo's daughter, and the fact that he has a baby girl, made me think how good you would look holding a girl half you, half me in your arms."
"I don't..." You didn't knew what to say.
"I know we said we're done having kids and I'm not trying to change your mind or anything, but this is hitting me harder than I thought it would."
"You know how bad I felt when having Miguel. I'm scared it'll happen again."
"I know babe, I know."
"Even if we attempted to do so, he cannot order for a girl." Rúben looked down and nodded. You felt bad for him. Being a girl's dad was all he wanted, but it terrified you to think of becoming pregnant again. "I'm sorry, that sounded way too rude."
"No, it's okay. I mean you're right, we can't choose what gender to have." He grabbed your hand and pulled you closer. You hugged him and he kissed the top of your head. "I only told you because I can't lie to you. I didn't mean to make you uncomfortable or bring up any bad memories."
"You didn't make me uncomfortable. You just caught me off guard, that's all."
"I know." He mumbled an apology and kissed your head one last time. "Let's go to bed."
It had been two months since that night. Rúben didn't bring up the subject again and neither did you. But you would be lying if you hadn't been thinking about another pregnancy.
"Is it really okay to leave her with you?" Ines asked for the hundredth time. She and Bernardo were going out for the first time since their daughter's birth, and you had offered yourself to look after her. "Isn't Rúben going to act, I don't know… weird?"
You chuckled. "He knows she's staying here. It's okay, don't worry."
"Are both of you doing well? Has he said anything again?"
"He didn't say anything else, but…" You ran your hand through your hair and let out a sigh. You sat down in front of her in the living room. "I need to talk with someone before I explode."
"What is it?"
You looked back to see if your kids were listening to the conversation. "Since that night, every time we have sex, he doesn't finish… you know… inside me."
"What? Wait, aren't you on birth control?"
"Yes."
"So why… Have you asked him why?"
You stood up and began pacing back and forth. "He told me he didn't feel comfortable and needed some time, but that was two months ago. The sex is still mindblowing, he's the same lover he has ever been, but I want him to.. yeah."
"Maybe you should tell him. You've been together since kids. You know him better than anyone, he'll understand."
Rúben opened the apartment door and was greeted by the delicious aroma of your cooking. The sound of his kids' laughter filled the house, bringing a smile to his face. He placed his bag at the entrance and walked down the hallway. As soon as Thiago and Miguel noticed him, they jumped up from the sofa where they were watching TV and rushed to greet him.
"Dad!" Rúben bent down and kissed their foreheads.
As the timer of the oven beeped, Rúben noticed that you were having a hard time juggling the baby and the food. He immediately stepped in and offered his help.
"Let me help you!" You turned around, surprised to hear him. You hadn't noticed him come in. You let him take the baby from your arms and you quickly took the food from the oven. "Hi, beautiful!"
As you placed the food on the table, you turned your head to see Rúben carefully holding the baby in his strong arms. The baby looked even tiny against his chest. He was speaking to her in a gentle and soothing tone, his voice sounding sweeter than usual as he smiled.
That was the moment you knew you were screwed!
"Oh fuck!" You mumbled to yourself.
It was like your bubble of illusion had shattered. Suddenly the memories of Rúben holding your kids when they were just little babies, made you come to the realisation that he wasn't the only one wanting to have more kids.
You were so afraid that a new pregnancy would be a repeat of the last one, that you couldn't even envision what you truly desired: a large family.
"You okay?" He asked you. "You're pale."
"Yes. Yes, I'm fine." You said. "Dineer's ready!"
You and Rúben were cleaning the kitchen in silence when Bernardo and Ines came to pick up their daughter and when they left it was like the house had become a bit more empty and so did you. Rúben noticed that you were very quiet and asked the boys to go play in their room for a while.
He approached you, hugged you from behind and kissed your head. "What's wrong? You're very quiet today."
"It's nothing, gorgeous. Just tired."
"Is that our excuse for everything?" He turned you around and lifted you on the counter. He got between your legs and kissed you passionately and slowly. "What's in that head of yours?"
You put your arms around his neck. "Do you really want to have more kids?"
Rúben moved his head away from your neck and furrowed his eyebrows. "What?"
You let out a sigh. "Today, seeing you taking care of Bernardo's daughter, made me realise how much I miss having a baby that small. Seeing you with a baby that small."
"What does that mean?" His heart was racing.
"It means I miss having your babies." Rúben's smile could light up a room. "But that doesn't mean I'm not terrified of the pregnancy."
He cupped your face. "You know I'm always here for you."
"I know and that was never in question. But at the end of the day, I'm the one pregnant."
"Babe, if you don't want another kid, that's okay."
"But I do!" You jumped from the counter, frustrated. "I do want to have more kids. Have you looked at yourself? Who wouldn't want to have your kids?" Rúben crossed his arms over his chest and laughed. "Shut up, Dias!"
"It's your call, babe. It's your body."
You groaned and grabbed his hand, dragging him into the bedroom. "I'm going to talk with my doctor first. But in the meantime we can practice."
"You know the kids are still awake, right?"
"We can be quick and quiet for now."
9 months later
"Congratulations, Y/a. It's a girl." You cried even more, realising that your baby girl was finally in your arms.
"We did it!"
"She's beautiful, just like you." Rúben pushed your hair out of your face and kissed your forehead. "I love you."
"I love you too."

(49/54) “We still take long walks together, even today. There’s a path through the forest near our house. Mitra still can’t stand the silence. She’ll walk off the path so she can hear the dry crunch of the leaves. She still talks the entire time, but these days our conversations don’t reach back as far as they used to. We mainly talk about the things we see. She’ll count her steps, count the houses, count the trees. Mitra’s memory is no longer her friend; it no longer supports her. But she still says ‘hello’ to everyone that she sees. And she’s still a queen, I am always at her service. These days we have become inseparable. If I do not see her for two minutes, I will find what room she’s in. I button her jacket. I tie her shoes. I handle all her medications. I do not grieve the situation. I feel gratitude that I am able to do these things for her, despite nature. My only grief is for her. Her memory was her greatest gift. It’s where I stored my treasures. I could tell her any verse, even once. And she could remember it forever. Now it will escape her after only a minute. Every day her world gets smaller and smaller. Tighter and tighter. It’s the oldest memories that she remembers most now. Recently she has been fixated on her hand. She keeps holding up her crippled hand, and asking: ‘Why did you ever marry me?’ When we were young in Tehran, her father had a tradition. Every morning he would insist on having the first cup of tea. He said it was the one that tasted best. He called it ‘the flower of the tea.’ So now when I brew our tea every morning, I will wait. Until Mitra is up. Until she’s ready. So that I can serve her the flower of the tea. Then as soon as we’ve finished the kettle, she’ll make me go outside. And pour the remains on the roots of our trees.”

SORRY THIS TOOK ME SO LONG YALL. also this is gonna be two parts! also male version of this story will be posted soon!
Part 2 here :)
. . . .
Eddies eyes followed you as you walked down the aisle of the cafe. Your tray in one hand and an English book in the other.
He watched slowly as your eyes pointed straight ahead, not even glancing at him. Not that he had expected you to.
You, being “Hawkin’s Pride and Joy” would never give him the time of day. Not with your grades or social standing. And it was pathetic of him to even hope you would.
And yet still, you had given him the time of day.
Four weeks ago, to be exact.
He was in the library, a place he rarely was, trying so hard to study for Mrs. O’Donelle’s next test. It was getting late, nearing eight, and he knew he should get going.
But still, he had no idea what this test was even on. He stared blankly at the test review page in front of him. Hoping if he stared long enough, it would somehow make sense.
But, it didn’t.
He let out a long, dramatic sigh. Flinging his head back and rolling his eyes.
Normally, he was sure someone would have shushed him or given him a dirty look for all the commotion he was causing. But no one was in the library at that time, he knew that no one would be as dumb as him to stay this late-
“Excuse me,” a voice behind him said, “Is that seat taken?” You asked so politely as you pointed to the seat next to him.
He jumped, startled by your soft voice.
Your eyes stared down into his, you had your normal amount of makeup on, but the lipgloss you wore made your lips stand out more to him. You wore something so casual, a normal every-day-outfit, but still, everything about you screamed polished, pristine.
He gulped, nodding before saying, “N-No, it’s not.”
You gave him a small smile before setting your bag and books down next to him.
Up until that moment, he had never truly given you the time of day, never looked in your direction, never even thought about you.
And yet, here you were, sitting next to him, almost elbow to elbow.
You turned over to him smiling, “My name is Y/N, and you’re Eddie right?”
He gawked at you for a minute. You remembered his name? What mythical world was this?
After a very strange and long silence, he finally said, “Uh-yeah, yeah that’s me. Eddie.”
God, he wanted to shoot himself.
But you just smiled at him, “That’s cool. What test you’ studying for? Mines for Pinleiy, his class is seriously kicking my ass.”
His eyebrows quirked up, he didn’t expect someone like you to swear. And yet, he also didn’t expect you to sit with him.
“O'Donnell,” he said, a bit quietly.
You groaned, “Oh my god, she’s such a bitch! I hated her class. She made everything so difficult for everyone, those homework assignments always kicked my ass.”
Eddie raised an eyebrow. Where you, Y/N L/N, really trying to start a conversation with him?
He paused for a minute.
“Yeah, she sucks man. I failed her class twice.”
You looked over your shoulder, checking to see if anyone was there. Before looking back at him smirking, “Don’t tell anyone, but on her last final I totally cheated!”
Eddie’s eyebrows shot up, “No way, the Y/N L/N? Na, I ain't buying it.”
You giggled, “It’s true! I wrote my notes on my arm.”
Eddie scoffed, “Please, that’s the oldest shit in the book. You probably got caught but Mrs. O’Donnell let you get away with it because of how much of a goody-two-shoes you are.”
You gasped at him, “I’m hurt! I’ll have you know I was super slick about it!”
Eddie let out a laugh, a genuine laugh, “Please, I highly doubt that.”
You huffed, “You know, I was going to ask if you needed help studying, but after this, I will no longer be offering my services.”
He chuckled, “You? Help me? Come on, this has to be some sort of sick joke.”
But you shook your head, “Nope. I mean it, if you want, I can help you. Seriously.”
He looked at you, your eyes twinkling with sincerity.
He let out a sigh, “Yeah, I mean if the smartest girl in Hawkins offers to tutor you, you kinda have to say yes, right.”
You giggled, “I don’t know if I’d say I’m the smartest-”
Eddie let out a laugh, “Oh come on, don’t be so modest. You and that Wheeler girl are like, stupidly smart. And popular, Jesus what a match.”
You rolled your eyes, “I’m not popular-”
But Eddie cut you off again, “Uh-huh, you tell yourself that, sweetheart.”
At the mention of the nickname, he notices your composer shift, only for a moment. You become flustered, your calm and charming exterior cracked for just a moment. Replaced with a shy, flustered girl.
“But,” Eddie continued, “yes, I would appreciate any help.”
After he said that, you perked up.
“W-well, um, let’s get started!”
You two stayed for a while until he felt confident about his ability to actually pass this upcoming test.
He beamed at you, “Wow, thanks Y/N. Damn, might even get myself an A.”
You giggled at his pride, your eyes shining with admiration. “You worked hard, I’m sure you’ll do great.”
Eddie gave you a goofy grin, “Na, I could never get this far without you…thank you Y/N.”
He saw your eyes dart away from his, face flushed, “Oh yeah, yeah don’t even worry about it. Just think of it as..as a favor.”
Eddie cocked a brow at you, “Damn, one heck of a favor. You know you didn’t have to do this, right? I mean, we don’t even know each other.”
You smiled at him, and a felt a small pull in his gut.
“I don’t know, I thought it would be nice. And besides, I had nothing else going on. And you’re pretty good company, Munson.”
He didn’t know why, but he felt his heart start to race in his chest, and the feeling of his stomach doing jumping jacks when your eyes met his. Had you always been so pretty?
He gulped down his nerves, “You’re not so bad yourself, Y/N.”
You smiled at that, “Glad you think so.”
. . .
After a few days, you talked to him again.
He was at one of his favorite music stores, He lost his favorite tape of Iron Maiden (Piece of Mind) and realized he needed it in order to be able to jam out properly.
And he loved this little music shop. Notably, it had mostly rock and metal songs, but it also had popular and more mainstream artists as well. He grimaced at the Beatles and Bowie cover next to his beloved Black Sabbath.
He sighed, finally finding the album he needed.
Just as he was about to head over to the counter, he heard the door open followed by a familiar voice.
“Pardon me,” he heard you say, “do you happen to have any Metallica tapes? For a walkman?”
He swore his heart did a double-take, seeing your pretty face in such a dark place as this small music shop, really made you stand out.
Not to mention, you had just asked if they had any Metallica. That was enough to get his heart pumping louder than it had before.
As one of the employees showed you the way to one of the metal sections of the store, he followed you.
“Right here, ma’am. We even got the newest album, let me know if you need any help,” the employee said politely, before walking away.
As you searched, he came up behind you.
“Didn’t realize you liked Metallica.”
He saw you jump at his words, your face shooting back to his.
“Wow!” He said, “Easy there! Didn't mean to frighten you.”
You shook your head, “Sorry I just didn't see you there. And um… I'm not a Metallica fan. I just- I just heard they were good.”
Eddie nodded, smirking, “Well sweetheart, you heard right. Metallica is pretty good man, especially if you just trying to get into metal. But you don't really seem like the metal type.”
At that, he saw your face flush, “I wanted to try something new, I guess.”
He smiled, “Hey no shame in that. I respect it actually.”
He looked around before pulling a tape out of his pocket, “Here, take this one so you don’t have to pay for it. Just give it back whenever.”
The album was Master of Puppets. It was new, considering the album had just come out, so it was in pretty good condition.
Your eyes widened as you took it, “No, I couldn’t-”
But he just smiled, “I insist. Just give it back to me the next time you see me, alright? I’m returning my favor, from when you helped tutor me, remember?”
You nodded, smiling, “Well, that’s very generous of you, Munson, I appreciate it. And yes, next time I see you, I’ll give it back.”
. . .
And he did see you again. In a place that he least expected.
His band was playing at the Hideout, a not-so-popular bar in town. The crowd is maybe filled with four or five drunk old men, and the smell of cheap booze lingered in the air.
But I didn't care, he played his guitar until his fingers felt like they couldn't strum a single chord anymore. He played until he physically felt like he was going to fall off his feet.
 And when he finished playing, the one thing he least expected to happen, came true.
Applause was heard in the bar, from one pair of hands.
His eyes widened, seeing your pretty face beaming up at him.
You were seated in a booth, near the back of the bar. You were dressed in a normal, comfy outfit. But still, it made his lungs run out of fresh air.
 As you continue clapping, you looked up at him smiling, a genuine smile.
 He felt his heart do a flip.
 As the band started to pack up their equipment, you made your way over to him.
“Wow! You guys are so good!”
Eddie’s eyes widened, where you really here for them?
As if you could read his mind, you said quickly, “I-I just came in because I was studying nearby and saw you playing. But wow! I didn’t even know you played!”
Eddie could feel his heart skip at your praise.
“Ah, well. Thanks, sweetness, but we don't really get that much of a crowd.”
Eddie gestured around the bar where most of the men were now almost completely passed out.
You smiled, your eyes locking with his, “Maybe you’re just ahead of your time, Munson.”
He could feel his cheeks becoming hot, and he had to look away from your eyes so you wouldn’t notice.
He coughed and laughed slightly, “Yeah..yeah I guess you could say that.”
Before you could respond, one of Eddie’s bandmates made his way over to you two, “Hey man, the vans all packed up,” he looked over at you, raising an eyebrow, “Sorry was I interrupting something?”
Eddie paused, but you shook your head, “No, I was just saying how good you guys were! You’re the drummer, right? You did really well! I’ll have to come back again and listen to you guys more.”
Gareth gaped at you, eye’s in disbelief.
You shuffled awkwardly, before saying, “Sorry, I forgot to introduce myself. My name Y/N L/N, I think we had English together last year.”
As if broken out of a trance, Gareth nodded vigorously, “Um-yeah. English…yeah with Mrs. Kelly. Yeah, I remember, you were my partner for a project. Something about The Great Gatsby?”
You laughed a bit, and Eddie was suddenly very aware of his fist clutching his guitar pick so hard he felt a sting of pain in his palm.
“Yeah, I remember. We had to make a poster about the life-changing aspects of the 1920’s. Oh my god, it was so boring.”
You and Gareth laughed at a shared memory, and Eddie decided that he had had enough.
He tried his best to sound nonchalant, but he knew he just came off brash, “Here man, take these and get the van started.” Eddie handed him his keys, “I’ll be out in a sec.”
Gareth took the keys from Eddie, giving a knowing smirk as he walked away. Eddie could have even sworn he saw him wink at him as he walked off.
You shifted nervously from foot to foot, before Eddie finally piped up, “So um- you liked the show?”
Your eyes lit up, “Yeah, I really did! Oh my gosh, and you’re guitar playing? It was so sick!”
Eddie laughed, “Wow, you might be our first-ever fan, Y/N.”
You smiled up at him, lashes fluttering lightly, “Then I hope to stay your number one fan.”
He smiled at that. How cute, he thought.
Your eyes lit up, and you reached into your pocket, “I almost forgot!”
You pulled out a tape, handing it back to him, “You were right, the album was so good! I loved every second of it. Thank you for letting me borrow it.”
Eddie nodded, “Yeah I mean of course. I have a few other recommendations if you’re every not too busy-”
“I mean, I’m not busy right now?”
Eddie smiled, preparing fully to blow off his band mates, “Well then, sit down sweetheart.”
. . .
You too continued to talk more and more after that, mostly out of school. And most of the time, you’d somehow find him.
And yet, he couldn’t get you out of his brain.
It had actually started to interfere with his life. He couldn’t write any new D&D campaign ideas because all he could think about was your smile, he couldn’t play his guitar because all he could think about was how you praised him that night at the Hideout.
He had even stopped making a commotion whenever you were around, choosing to stay quiet whenever you entered a room.
But that was because he normally couldn’t take his eyes off of you.
And yet, for the last few days, he had heard nothing from you. Not a nice small conversation, a “how are you”, not even a few glances at him. Nothing.
He normally wouldn’t have cared, who was this girl? Some prissy prep? Why should he care if she come up to him and started talking to him again?
But he did. He cared. He wanted to hear her sweet voice again. To watch her pretty eyes light up when she was working on homework. He wanted to see her smile up at him, to feel his heart beat out of his chest. He wanted desperately to walk up to her himself.
But he stilled himself. He knew that he probably shouldn’t read into anything, he didn’t want to seem desperate. Even if he found himself falling for someone he desperately wish he didn’t.
He sighed, walking to his next class after lunch was over.
He spent the whole period thinking about you, which wasn’t uncommon for him anymore, he’d usually think about you for most of the day.
He hated how he couldn’t just go up to you. Why’d he have to wait for you? Why couldn’t he just stop being a pussy and start a conversation with you?
But he knew the answer, it was because he was a coward.
He sighed as the final bell rang.
“Finally,” he muttered under his breath as he left the school, walking over to his van.
But as he got closer, he saw a familiar face.
He felt his feet hiccup on the ground, the air flying out of his lungs.
But your face lit up as he approached, eyes sparling under the sun's light. Your beautiful face illuminated by the suns light made his heart momentarily stop working.
God, you were driving him insane.
This was definitely new, however, you would never approach him at school. He tried to calm himself down as he approached you, trying his best to become more nonchalant.
You waved at him, “Hey Eddie!”
“Hey there sweetheart, what are you doing here?”
Your eyes faltered, looking down at your shoes. “Well- I,” you breathed in heavily, hands fidgeting lightly.
He raised an eyebrow, why were you suddenly so nervous? You had been waiting by his van after all.
“You alright, Y/N?”
Your eyes looked up quickly, you bit your lip shyly.
“I-um…I had a question…for you.”
He gave you a confused look, “Alright, shoot. I’m not gonna bite,” he said laughing.
Your hands shook and somehow you found your voice, “I was wondering if…maybe you’d wanna…go on a date?”
Eddie immediately felt like he had been shoved to the ground, the air in his lungs escaping him as he gaped at you. Eyes blew wide as he tried to comprehend what you had just asked him.
He, go on a date, with you? This couldn’t be real, like some sort of dream, or-
And then, out of the corner of his eye, he saw them. Your friends, pointing and laughing, at him.
Suddenly, it all made sense.
Of course, you’d never ask him out, of course, you’d never actually have any sort of feelings for him. You avoided him like the plague at school, why would you ever want to be seen with him? And why right now? You would never go out  with a freak like him.
Of course, this was some sick joke, it was so obvious. He had just been so blind by his own feelings that he pushed reality aside.
And when they saw him staring back, your friends continued to point and laugh, giggling at his dismay.
“Eddie?” Your sweet, soft voice called back to him. Your eyes were looking at the floor, leg bouncing anxiously, “You don’t have to say yes, I understand. It’s fine, I just wanted to be able to tell you that I-”
Eddie cut you off with a cold laugh.
“Whatever Y/N. You can drop it now.”
Your eyes shot up, looking at him confused, “Wha-”
Eddie shook his head, a mad grin plastered on his face, “I knew that someone like you couldn't be so nice. So what was it then, a dare? A bet? Come on sweetheart,” the nickname dripped with venom, “you don’t have to pretend anymore. I saw your little friends laughing over there. Don’t play so innocent.”
He pointed over to your friends, watching as they stumbled back with laughter.
Your eyes widened as you saw your supposed friends (the girls on the cheer squad that you would sometimes sit with at lunch) laughing at you two.
“Wait, Eddie, please I-”
But he shook his head, “I don’t want to hear it Y/N.”
He started walking away, towards the door of his van, you protested as he did so.
He snapped, turning around to you, “You know, I thought you were different, I thought you were nice. I thought…hell, I don’t know what I thought. But you seemed so genuine. But I guess that was all an act, huh? Should have known, yeah I should have known. Stuck up Y/N, always thinks she’s better than everyone around her. Such a bitch and everyone knows it,” he hated seeing the hurt in your eyes, but he kept going, “such a goddamn stuck-up priss, a goddamn people pleaser. An attention whore. I should have known better.”
He hopped in his van, slamming his door as he refused to listen to your pleas.
“Eddie stop! Really, I meant it!”
But he had already started driving away, leaving you in the dust of his tires and tears running down your cheeks.

There’s a bustle in the castle that hasn’t been here for a year. It’s like the very stone–polished, whitewashed, ancient–is vibrating with excitement. After all, a royal wedding is an exciting time, and everyone must play their part. The cherry trees, hundreds of them across the property of the castle and in the castle town, are close to blossom. The merchants are busy building and sewing and crafting and baking. The stewards and keepers have cleaned the castle walls inside and out more times than can be counted.
You cannot find it in yourself to match their enthusiasm.
You stand on a pedestal facing a floor-length mirror, a seamstress on either side of you. They haven’t stopped touching you since they’d walked into the room. Slipping garments onto your body. Primping and adjusting the fabric so it lays just right. Measuring, pinning, tucking, tacking. The silk is heavy, like lead on your limbs, and they just keep layering it on. All of it is an elegant cream color–not white, despite tradition. Daniel had instructed the royal seamstresses. It was because of him, after all. White is too pure, too untouched.
Maybe, under different circumstances, worn by someone else, you would find the gown pretty. The silken fabric is soft and luxurious, a delicate floral pattern embroidered into the sleeves. The skirt is plain, but it flows well, and it’s a slightly richer color than the rest. There’s a small loop at the waist where a luck ornament will be attached. You haven’t seen it yet–the queen mother hasn’t yet presented it to you–but the handmaids have told you that it’s meant to bring many sons.
But honestly, you’ve avoided looking–really looking–at any of it, your focus solely on the leather toe of your shoe sticking out from under the fabric of your dress. You were never too mesmerized by your reflection, but now… It’s hard to reconcile what you see with what used to be there. Your hair is longer. You’ve lost weight. A bruise peeks out from under the collar of your dress. There’s a hollowness in your eyes, and worse, there’s a hollowness somewhere deeper. A meekness that you don’t recognize, but that’s been gnawing at the edges of you for nearly a year now.
You don’t recognize yourself. You don’t want to recognize yourself.
“Have you seen him yet?” You hear one of the handmaidens ask as the seamstresses pin the fabric at your sleeve.
The other handmaiden groans softly. “I’ve been stuck inside all day. Kagha asked me to shine the silver.” Kagha is the stewardess of the castle, and she’s been running around like a crazy person of late trying to prepare for the wedding.
The first handmaiden leans closer to the other. You’ve seen her around, but you have no idea what her name is. “He’s gorgeous,” she whispers, so quiet you almost can’t hear.
“Shame he’s from the forest,” the second handmaiden laments, standing. Her arms are full of linen.
You hum. It’s been a long year. A lonely year. You’ve learned a lot, and you know you’ve done a lot of growing to meet the needs of the position you find yourself in. But that doesn’t mean that the path hadn’t been lonely. And you’d finally managed to convince Daniel to allow you to send a letter to your father, asking him to send you someone to serve in the castle.
Based on the handmaidens’ reactions, he’s sent Seokjin.
It makes sense. Out of anyone your father could have sent, Seokjin is the most likely to fit in at the castle and in Castle Town. He’s charming and smart, and knows how to hold himself at court. And, more than anyone, Seokjin knows–or assumes–how careful one must be in this life, too.
There’s an excitement bubbling in you that you haven’t felt in a while. Your step-brother. Here. Finally, a friend. You leave the seamstresses when they’re finished, an almost giddy bounce to your step. It leads you all the way to the King’s Council Chamber–if Seokjin is here, that’s where he’ll be. Daniel may not have greeted you on your arrival to the Ironhold, but he would certainly not risk snubbing the eldest son of one of the old families.
You stand outside of the council chamber, suddenly unsure. The excitement has faded, replaced with the roiling unease that comes with being anywhere near this room. You should wait. As excited as you may be to see Seokjin, you don’t want to risk Daniel’s ire at your interruption. So you stand there, outside the door, far enough away so that you aren’t in anyone’s way.
After a moment, you can feel your heartbeat start to pound in your ears. Maybe waiting is a mistake. Maybe, if you’re lucky, you can make it back to your chambers. Maybe you can wait there. You nod to yourself. That’s a better idea. You’ll wait for them to come to you.
You’ve just turned to go when the door opens, the hinges creaking lowly with the motion. You can hear Daniel’s voice, but it’s Eden, Daniel’s younger brother, who walks out first. His eyes widen when he sees you standing there, half fleeing, and you can hear him make a little noise of surprise. It doesn’t last long, though, because as soon as Daniel spots you, Eden’s face schools into something neutral.
Daniel stops mid-word to question you. “What are you doing here?”
“I-” Your words stick in your throat. You shouldn’t be here, but you’re frozen in place. And then, just when you think things can’t get worse, a dark head of hair and curious, feline eyes poke out from around Daniel’s form.
You freeze, hoping the ground will open up and swallow you whole. You feel yourself wilt, and suddenly, you’re hyper-aware of how you’re standing, how awkward your arms feel at your side, how rigid your spine feels.  It’s not Seokjin. You could never be that lucky.
Daniel stalks toward you and roughly grabs your upper arm. His fingers dig in, pressing into your flesh. You wince ever so slightly–it hurts, the bruise already there is an angry deep purple–but quickly, you school your face into something more pleasant.
“We’ve talked about this,” Daniel says. His voice is even, but you can hear the undertones.
You should not be here.
You’re embarrassing me. Again.
We will discuss this again later.
“I’m sorry.” Your voice comes out softer than you’d like, and you wonder if he can hear the slight tremble, or if it’s just you. “I… I thought it was Seokjin and I…” You trail off, eyes falling to the stone floor.
The king jerks you closer, grip like a vise on your upper arm. “You what?”
“I got excited.”
He hums. “I see.”
Off to your left, Eden clears his throat. “Brother. You have a meeting with Mother and the High Priest in the garden soon. We shouldn’t keep them waiting.”
Daniel nods and squeezes your arm. “We’ll discuss this later.”
The brothers leave, and suddenly, the hall is quiet. The few guards that had been milling around follow Daniel and Eden out. You clear your throat, unable to meet the dark eyes that watch you curiously. He’s never been to the Crownlands, and your brain latches onto an idea.
This doesn’t have to be awkward.
“Have you seen the grounds?” you question finally, shifting your weight.
Yoongi shakes his head. “Not yet.”
“Would you like to?”
You can feel him looking at you, can feel the questions hanging in the air. Thankfully–and surprisingly–he says nothing, simply motions for you to lead the way.
“The castle was built nearly 800 years ago by the Choi family. Because of tensions at the time between the royal family and the rest of the old families, the Ironhold was built to be nearly impregnable, with oil chutes built into every staircase and balistraria in every exterior wall.” You gesture to one of the arrow slits in the wall, where the sunlight from the mid-spring sun peeks through the thick stone. You know that he knows all this–he sat through almost as many of your father’s history lessons as you did–but it helps to keep talking.
And to his credit, Yoongi listens patiently. He follows dutifully at your side, pausing to look at things you point out and nodding along where appropriate. You can’t show him everything–that would almost be impossible as the castle grounds are so large. But you walk him through parts of the gardens (“There are over 1,000 cherry trees on the castle grounds.”), and show him the fish ponds (“The fish have been imported from the Eastern Coastlands. Some of the koi are descendants of the original fish brought in when the ponds were built 300 years ago!”). You walk past the Queen Mother’s private residence in the southern part of the castle grounds and show him the knight’s barracks and the training grounds.
All of the buildings on the castle grounds look the same. It had taken you a few months to actually learn where everything was and what each building housed. Tall, sloping, whitewashed walls, deep blue tile roofs, sharp corners and rectangular windows. A far cry from the curved staircases and round windows and dark woods of Castle Blackwood.
Re-entering the castle proper, you show him the Grand Hall, where important dinners are held, and the king’s dining room. And finally, finally, you end the tour of the castle grounds on the second floor of the western tower where your chambers–and the chambers of personal guards and hand servants–are. You’ve known for a while that there was a room designated for your own personal guard, so you end up in front of that door.
“This is yours,” you tell him, gesturing to the door. It’s not as thick or as dark as the ones back at Castle Blackwood, but you grew accustomed to those small differences long ago.
He stands there, his hand on the brass doorknob, gaze soft as he takes you in. You can see his eyes dart briefly to where the bruise peeks out from under your collar and feel yourself shrink away. You don’t want to know what he sees when he looks at you.
“Come in.” His voice is gentle, almost as if he’s speaking to a wounded animal. “Let’s catch up.”
You shouldn’t. You know you shouldn’t. It’ll make it harder to move forward–to move on. But then he says, “Please,” and you’ve never been able to resist the softness of his eyes. So you let him lead you into his chambers and shut the door.
“It’s been years since I’ve seen you in a dress,” he says quietly. He stands in front of you, a little awkward. He keeps rubbing his hands together, patting down his trousers. It’s little comfort to know that he’s just as nervous as you are.
“Why are you here, Yoongi?” You don’t mean to snap, but it just kind of happens. You aren’t sure what this means–what it means for him, let alone what it means for you. There’s a pit in your stomach that feels almost like you swallowed a rock, and you do your best to steady yourself.
“What do you mean?”
“I mean why are you here? Why did it have to be you? Why couldn’t it have been Seokjin, or Namjoon, or any- anyone else?”
He reaches into his doublet and pulls out a folded piece of parchment. It’s a little crumpled, the edges a little worn, like it’s been read many times. You catch a glimpse of a forest green wax seal still clinging to the top edge, and immediately you know what it is.
“Maybe we’re both a little selfish.” The way he says it, you can feel your heart sink.
Of course you know what the letter says. It haunts you, but at the time, you thought you were doing the right thing. You still do.
I hope that, in time, you can move on. That eventually, you will find yourself in love. That you will find happiness again. It’s selfish, but I will only be able to live through this with the hope that you are happy and living a life that is worthy of the care you’ve shown me.
Find someone who loves you as much as I do. For my sake, if nothing else.
You want him to be able to move on and live his life. You want him to be happy. He deserves to be happy. And you would sacrifice your own happiness a hundred times over if it meant he could have the life he deserves.
Yoongi reaches out, and your heart races. You tense, an automatic reaction, and his hand pauses mere centimeters from your cheek. A look of confusion crosses his dark eyes that quickly morphs to understanding and then sadness. His hand falls back to his side.
“How did you get that bruise?” His voice is casual, but you know him, can practically see the cogs turning in his mind.
You tug the collar of your gown so that it covers better. “I tripped.”
“And bruised your shoulder?”
“I’m still getting used to the gowns.”
He hums. You know he knows you’re lying. But you aren’t sure how much you want to allow him back in yet. You aren’t sure how much you want to drag him down with you.
He sighs, but he doesn’t push it. Instead, he looks at the letter that’s still in his hands. “I tried,” he says softly. “For the first few months, I thought that if I could just convince myself that I was mad at you, it would be easier. I tried so hard to hate you, to blame you for leaving, make it your fault.” He looks up at you, then, and you can see a shine to his eyes. He reaches out again, but this time, the tips of his fingers brush against your hand. “But I couldn’t. It’s not fair, but it’s even less fair for you. And I want to be here. I know it won’t be easy, but I want to be here with you. You shouldn’t have to do this alone.”
Your eyes sting, and there’s a lump in your throat that you can’t quite swallow down.
Hours later, you’re alone in your chambers. Dusk has fallen, the handmaidens have already been through to light the few candles on the tray near your bed. You sit on the chaise under the open window, a gentle spring breeze lightly caressing your skin. Silently, you stare down at the wooden box in your hands.
It’s dusty. You haven’t touched it since placing it on the shelf when you’d first arrived in the Ironhold. You can see the fingerprints from how you’ve held it over the past half-hour. Gently, you wipe the dust from the gilded leaves of the thistle and press them in. A soft ‘click’ echoes through the inside of the box.
You take the contents out carefully. Sketches from one of the artists in the Forest Town–one of you, your father, your step-mother, and Namjoon and Seokjin; the other of you and Yoongi. You look much younger here, even though the drawings were only done a few years ago. It feels like an eternity. The real reason you’d pulled the box off the shelf, though, is still in your hand, wrapped delicately in a piece of cloth you’d ripped from a pair of your trousers.
Once it’s unwrapped, you hold it between your thumb and your forefinger and inspect it in the low light.
Part of you feels guilty that this is the first time you’ve looked at it in almost a year, that you can’t wear it, even on a chain around your neck, or at the very least that you can’t display it in some way. You shouldn’t have accepted it. But there’s no way you could have known it would have spent a year hidden away in a secret compartment in a wooden box, wrapped in the fabric of the trousers you can no longer wear.
You suppose there are things about the world your father couldn’t have thought to teach you.
He couldn’t have prepared you for everything you’ve learned here. How to break yourself down, brick by brick, and rebuild from the ground up. How to change how you talk, how you think. To change your personality to be more likable, less loud, less prominent. To change how you walk, how you stand, how you take up space. A good queen knows when to enhance her king’s spotlight, but also how to fade into the background. She’s firm but quiet. She defers to her husband’s opinions, she doesn’t shape them. And certainly, she knows naught of how the king’s court functions.
He could never have taught you that there’s a special kind of loneliness reserved only for future queens, when you arrive in a new city and no one knows you and no one likes you and no one wants to know or like you. You’ll just be another fixture in the Crownlands, a figurehead with no power, a vessel with no thoughts. There for one thing–maybe two, if you’re lucky–and ignored the rest of the time.
You miss home, miss having things to fill your time with. You miss the activity of Blackwood Castle–there was always something going on, even if it was something minor. Now, you feel as though you spend most of your time daintily draping yourself across chaises and windowsills, watching the world pass you by. You’d tried to go to the library once and were barred entry (“The queen has no need for such knowledge!”). You’d been banned from the council chambers (“How dare you embarrass your king in front of the Eastern traders!”). You couldn’t watch the knights spar, couldn’t sit by as the dog trainers did their work, couldn’t stroll the streets of the Castle Town.
The sound of guard boots in the hall draw your attention, and you jump, hurriedly re-wrapping the ring in cloth and slotting it and the two drawings back into the secret compartment in the box. You press the thistle flower and manage to wipe the rest of the dust off the front just as the door to your chamber opens.
Daniel stands there, the Realm’s unshakeable king, smelling of wine and grinning like the dog that caught the hare. He doesn’t say anything, merely shuts the door behind him and yanks the bolt in place to lock it. You embrace him as he approaches, allowing him to push you back onto the bed.
After he leaves, you stare at the ceiling and hope that someday soon, you’ll start to feel less hollow again.

It takes mere days for Yoongi to fully integrate into life in the Ironhold. Or, perhaps, integrate is the wrong word. It takes mere days for him to disappear. Once it’s clear he’s there to stay, he’s no longer a novelty, overshadowed by the wedding looming over the next couple days. He goes with you to dress fittings, sits behind you out of the way when you meet with the clergy. He even accompanies you to meet with the Queen Mother. You’re shocked that she allows him to stand in on your conversation, but if you’re honest with yourself, you’re a little glad she does.
“My knights followed me everywhere over the years,” she says casually, pouring herself a cup of tea. “I expect you’d want yours to do the same, forest bumpkin though he is.”
The Queen Mother sits at a small table near the window. For a moment, she doesn’t say anything, simply stares out at the garden as if she’s inspecting the very plants for quality of growth. It’s uncanny how much her sons have inherited from her. Daniel has the same intense, calculating gaze, and both he and Eden have her high cheekbones and downturned lips. They’ve all got the same dark, glossy hair and downturned eyes.
You stand there, waiting for her to address you again. It’s awkward, but you dare not move. You can feel Yoongi’s presence behind you–he’s been quiet all morning, but you can tell that he has thoughts about life in the castle. You ignore him. Instead, you focus your attention on the table in front of you and the Queen Mother’s cup of tea.
Finally, the Queen Mother brings her attention back in your direction, leveling a gaze at you that reminds you just how scrutinized you’ve been since you arrived at the Ironhold nearly a year ago. She studies you for a moment before raising her teacup to her lips. “I suppose you’re expecting me to give you the norigae for tomorrow’s ceremony.”
That had been why you thought she’d called this meeting. The seamstresses who’d been working on your gown said the Queen Mother would give you a lucky decoration. They’d said it was a big honor, that it was tradition. Now, you’re unsure. Still, though, you nod quietly.
The Queen Mother hums. Her gaze burns into you, and when you fidget where you stand, she frowns. “Danny has said that your dress is to be cream.”
“It’s pretty.”
“It’s not white.” Her tone is as sharp as her glare. It’s an accusation.
You swallow. “I do as my king asks.”
“The traditional norigae has been passed down for generations in the Choi family,” the Queen Mother says. She does not look at you, merely glares down at her tea cup. “It’s supposed to bring great luck to the marriage and many sons. It’s meant to be given to a king’s bride to both welcome her into the Choi family and celebrate the pure gift she brings with her.”
It scares you a little, how she says it. It almost sounds like a threat, though you aren’t quite sure what she’s threatening you with. What you do know, though, is that you probably should be scared of whatever it is.
“Do you think you deserve that?” she questions.
“I…”
You aren’t sure what to say. You aren’t sure there’s anything you can say. You’ve willingly allowed Daniel into your bed when he’s come calling. He’s the king and the man you are to marry. This is your life now.
Her question lingers as you wrack your brain for something–anything–to say. Thankfully, she puts you out of your misery.
“I suppose I must. Tradition is tradition, after all.” She sighs. “I will give it to the dressmakers tomorrow before the ceremony.”
“Thank you, your majesty.”
“You may go.” There is no room for argument.
The trek back through the gardens and to your chambers is silent. Yoongi is quiet as he follows you, the only signs that he’s there are his shadow following yours and his footsteps echoing off the stone floors of the castle. He shuts the door behind you as you enter your room, sliding the steel bolt into place to lock it.
“That’s not necessary,” you tell him, collapsing onto the chaise at the foot of your bed. You’re exhausted, and there’s something heavy growing in your chest. “You can return to your own chambers. I’ll call for you if I need anything.”
He doesn’t move, and when you look up at him, you can see the conflict in his eyes. After a moment, he seems to decide on something, because he takes a cautious step forward.
“You know you don’t have to put up with any of this.”
“What?” You have no idea what he’s talking about.
“We could run away.” He’s closer now, kneeling in front of you. Carefully, he takes your hand, holding it as though it were glass.
You shake your head. “You know that’s not possible.”
Yoongi squeezes your hand, dark eyes pleading. “We could go somewhere far away. Somewhere they couldn’t find you.”
“It’s not me I’m worried about.”
“You’re exactly who I’m worried about.” His tone is firm. “This place is poison, it’s… it’s-”
“It’s fine, Yoongi.” His touch is electric on your skin, and you jerk your hand away, burned by his proximity. “This is my duty. This is my life.”
“It’s not fine!” He stands, clearly frustrated. “You don’t deserve how these assholes treat you. No one does. The Westerlands can deal with whatever comes from-”
“Loyalty does not yield.”
“Fuck that! Have some sense!”
“Get out.” You say it as loud as you dare, not wanting to draw the guards but desperate, so, so desperate, for him to leave. When he doesn’t move, you pick up the closest thing to you—a soft-bound journal—and throw it at him. The book hits him in the chest with a dull thud and plops to the ground.
A pillow follows. Then another. A blanket. Your hair brush. Anything you can get your hands on, you hurl in his direction. If he would just leave and let you rest. You’re exhausted. Dear God, why won’t he leave? Eventually, you’re out of ammunition, everything else around you being too heavy or too large to throw with any sort of accuracy. Yoongi, to his credit, has stayed stock-still throughout the ordeal, unflinching despite the onslaught.
You stalk over to him, blood pressure rising. There’s a headache stirring behind your eyes. The pit grows inside of you. “Go. Now.”
“No.” He says it so calmly.
“Stubborn fool. I will send you home.”
“Listen to yourself,” he pleads. “This isn’t you, you don’t-”
Your palm stings.
Why does your palm sting?
You look down, confused, and see your skin a shade of angry red. Movement in front of you draws your attention. For the first time since you’d thrown the journal, Yoongi moves. His hand comes up to cup his cheek; your gaze follows his arm as it moves. There, hidden by his hand, his skin begins to blossom pink.
It’s like you’re sucked out of your body. You can see yourself standing there, cradling your stinging hand, staring in bewilderment at the red that blooms across his skin. A silent moment passes. But then you feel something, deep within you. At first, it’s nothing more than a tremor, a slight tremble within you, but then it builds. Your heart races. Whatever was left of you—whatever you’d been able to claw and cobble together over the last year—implodes. You can feel it shatter within you, a thousand times more powerful than the initial destruction. And with it, you crumble.
Yoongi approaches you cautiously, like he’s coming up on a wounded animal. “What can I do?” he asks, his voice soft, kind. “Tell me how I can help.”
“Leave,” you beg.
You regret it. You regret contacting your father. You regret asking him to send someone. Why you thought having any of them here would be helpful–or why you’d never considered it would be him–you’ll never know. You can survive here–you were surviving here. But at what cost?
It hits you hard, blindsiding you like a sudden storm. The truth is, you’re scared. What if the old you–the you he fell in love with… What if she’s gone? What if she can’t come back? What if she died the day you climbed into that carriage, replaced by this hollow husk of a person you are now?
You suppose it doesn’t matter. You’re here. Yoongi is here. Tomorrow, you will marry Daniel. And from there, you will take things as you have. One day at a time.
Eventually, you manage to pull yourself together. Your face still feels stiff and puffy, but you refuse to remove the cloth you’ve draped over the mirror, so you don’t know if it really is. You’ve got a headache–all the pressure behind your eyes and in your cheeks is enough to make you feel like your head is splitting open. Part of you just wants to go to sleep. But it’s barely mid-afternoon, and you aren’t entirely sure what you’re supposed to be doing.
The wedding is tomorrow, but you’ve gotten almost no direction from anyone on what should be happening. You suspect that something should be happening, but you have no idea what it could possibly be. As a child, you spent more time climbing trees and tormenting Namjoon with Yoongi than dreaming of your wedding, but even still. This feels like a business transaction.
A knock at your door pulls you from your thoughts, and it takes a moment for you to gather yourself. Your mind is a little hazy as you slide the bolt unlocked and open the door, but when you see Eden standing there, you force yourself to come to your senses. The prince bows slightly with his head, inclining it forward ever so slightly. It’s respectful, but only so much–he’s still the one with royal blood.
“How are you holding up?” he asks, stepping into the room. You haven’t really invited him in, but you step aside anyway and close the door behind him. “I heard that mother may have accosted you over the norigae this morning.”
“She was within her right,” you tell him softly.
Eden hums. “Still. You’re to be part of this family. Mother is just disappointed that she won’t be the most important woman in Daniel’s life anymore.”
“I don’t think that’s remotely true.”
He snorts, a wry smile on his lips. In the year you’ve been at the Ironhold, Eden has become your favorite person here. You don’t particularly trust him, but of everyone that lives in the Crownlands, he seems the most normal.
Casually, Eden wanders over to a window, looking out over the courtyard several levels below. “It is my hope that things will get easier for you in time.”
From where you’re sitting, that seems almost impossible. But you don’t want to quash his optimism. So you smile politely and nod.
“I brought you something,” Eden tells you, and the way he says it, it sounds almost like a conspiracy.
Carefully, he pulls a long strip of fabric out of his pocket. It’s a beautiful silk, red as blood–the chosen color of House Choi. He holds it out with both hands.
“Technically, my brother should be giving this to you,” he says as you take it. “But I don’t think he cares so much about keeping to every tradition. Just the ones that are convenient to him.”
You can feel something thin and hard inside the silk. Eden nods, and you gently unfold the fabric. Inside is a hairpin, shiny silver and around the length of your hand. The end is an intricate dragon head, expertly forged, and in its mouth, a bright red gem. The same dragon that stands resolutely on the Choi family crest. It’s pretty, but something about it makes your heart hurt.
“Tomorrow, you will become a dragon,” Eden says. “You should be able to dress like one.”
“Th-thank you.” You can barely manage it, and you hope that he takes your struggle as emotion and not the war that’s starting to wage within you.
After Eden leaves, the hours pass slowly. You aren’t sure what time it is when Daniel stops by your chambers. He barely speaks to you, but you can tell something is different about tonight. He stays longer after, falls asleep in your bed, on top of the coverlet. You aren’t sure when you drift off, only that you do.
You aren’t quite sure what wakes you up. It’s late. Or maybe early. It’s pitch dark–you can’t even see candles in the windows across the courtyard. Mysteriously, Daniel is still beside you. You’ve awoken on your side, so you can’t see him, but you can feel the dip in the mattress and the pull of his body on the blankets.
But there’s something else. Your blankets almost feel damp, the linen heavy with an extra weight. You sit up, curious, and immediately notice a spot that pools around Daniel. It’s soaked down deep into the mattress, the spot dark, almost black, in the dark of night. You reach out and touch it, and though you aren’t sure what you’re expecting, it’s sticky.
“My king?” you ask softly, touching his arm. He hasn’t moved since you woke, and you have a sinking sense that something is horribly wrong. When he doesn’t rouse, you shake him. “Daniel?”
There’s no response. His arm is stiff. He does not move. Your skin is sticky. You shake him harder, so hard that he rolls over. For a moment, you believe he’s awake. But then you see the cloth sticking out of his parted lips. And the gaping hole in his neck.

10,000-Year-Old Sandals from Fort Rock Cave in Oregon (c.8000 BCE): these sandals are the oldest known footwear ever discovered
Tumblr media
The oldest shoes in the world come from Oregon's Fort Rock Cave, where a team of archaeologists unearthed more than 70 sandals dating back to about 10,000 years ago. They had been buried beneath a layer of volcanic ash during the eruption of Mount Mazama in 7,600 BCE (the same eruption that produced Crater Lake). Some of the sandals still show signs of charring from the hot pumice that rained down over the site.
Each sandal is woven with ropes made of twisted sagebrush bark, and their design represents a distinctive stylistic tradition.
Tumblr media
From the Oregon Encyclopedia:
While sandals have been found at sites other than Fort Rock Cave, no other site has produced the unusual quantity found at Fort Rock. They range from child-size to large adult size. Most are heavily worn or broken, which suggests that they were discarded rather than being stored for later use.
I briefly mentioned these sandals in my previous post, but I decided that it would be better to just give them their own separate, dedicated post instead, because they really are amazing.

BEST FRIENDS — idol!sakura miyawaki x idol!reader
warnings: yn and sakura from heart racing, gidle!reader, kissing, mentions of caught in between
sakura pressed a soft kiss to the younger girls lips, pulling her closer to her as she cupped both of on either side of her face.
yn smiled into the kiss, kissing her the back, she placed her hand softly on sakura’s neck pulling her closer if that was possible.
the soft music coming from yn’s vinyl fills the room as they kiss, but yn comes to a stop when she hears familiar voices fill her apartment, she forgot she gave them a spare key.
“sakura.” she whispers, the older girl only responding with a hum as she pressed a kiss on yn’s cheek, “I think my members are here, didn’t you hear them?”
skaura girl pulls away immediately, “how?”
“I gave them a key duh.” yn says like it’s the most obvious thing in the world, “and they don’t know about you, they’re sorta protective.” yn looks down nervously at the last part, it was true they were protective, you should’ve seen her member’s reaction when the video with youngji came out.
“yn,” yuqi’s voice fills the apartment and she hears the multiple footsteps coming towards her door, “why is your door closed?”
yn shoots backwards on her bed and pushes sakura onto her back when her door opens, cursing herself for not locking it but why should she? it’s her house.
the door opens and revels an interesting scene to yuqi, minnie and shuhua’s eyes, their youngest member sitting on her bed looking at them awkwardly and the oldest member of lesserafim laying on yn’s bed with her elbows propping her up.
“did we interrupt something?” minnie asks taking a hesitant look at yuqi’s narrowed eyes and shuhua who has her hand over her mouth.
“no.” “yes.”, sakura and yn say at the same time, yn shooting sakura a glare.
shuhua let’s out a laugh and minnie slaps her arm, “I told you guys those shoe’s at the front weren’t yn’s.” but her teasing comes deaf to ears as yuqi shoots yn a suspicious look.
“what is she doing here?” she asks pointing at sakura.
yn laughs awkwardly getting up from her bed, “you know…” she drags out, “just hanging… with the bestie…” sakura cringes at the younger girl as yn walks over to her and gives her a high five, “you know, since friends hang out at each other’s house, totally normal.” yn continues making things completely worse, sakura just shakes her head disappointedly pulling yn’s arm so the girl and sit beside her.
“yeah, cause best friends lips always end up swollen when they…” yuqi trails off and brings her hand up to make quotation marks, “hang..”
both yn and sakura’s faces heat up in embarrassment as minnie pushes yuqi softly, “let the kids have fun.” she says gesturing towards yn and skaura.
“I’m just a year younger and older than yo-” skaura starts looking between yuqi and minnie but cuts herself off when minnie shoots her a glare that says “I’m trying to help you out here.”
“yeah.” shuhua agrees finally letting out a loud laugh, “do you even wanna know what they were doing in here?” she says teasingly laughing more at yuqi’s and now minnie’s disgusted faces.
“don’t eve-” yuqi raises her hand to shuhua’s mouth, “you know what I’m out of here, see you later yn and we’re talking about this later.” she says before walking out the door way, shuhua following quickly behind her to continue her teasing.
minnie starts to walk out the door way, but pauses and shoots yn and sakura a teasing look, “you two are cute.” she says before closing the door.
when yn hears her front door close she lets out an embarrassed sigh, flopping backwards onto sakura’s lap she mumbles out, “I’m sorry about them, they’re so embarrassing sometimes.”
sakura just laughs dismissively placing a kiss on yn’s forehead, “don’t worry about it.”
“maybe we should hand out at your dorm for now on.” yn jokes, “so we don’t have to deal with my members breaking in.”
“If you’re okay with witnessing a horrible love triangle and eunchae and kazuha asking you for your autograph.” she laughs before pulling yn closer on her lap, “but I think your house is a better choice, it’s comfy.”
“you should sleepover then.”
“yeah?”
“yeah.”

further warning: dirty talk, breast kink, pet names, creampie
It was one of the more warm nights in London. And there was the perfect cool breeze make your curtain dance gracefully.
You'd decided to open your window for a while and enjoy the sound of nature. You definitely needed the peace after playing with the younger kids all day.
You were the oldest of the bunch and only had your own room because your father practically kicked you out of the nursery. You were upset initially, but it wasn't as if you'd left your home.
Your eyes were growing heavy, and the noise arounnd you was lulling you into your dreamland. That was however until you hear...
THUMP...
THUMP...
CRASH!
You quickly sat up from your bed and rush out of your room and up to your siblings room.
You swing the door open with fret and your jaw drops with what you saw.
"what in the world is going on in here?" You look frantically left and right, trying to take in the scene.
Toy's were absolutely everywhere. Your father, on the ground, seemingly looking stressed and angry. Your mother, dressed beautifully for their evening out, and Nana balled in the corner of the room.
Everyone (excluding father) rushed over to Nana, showering the poor dog in hugs and kisses.
"poor Nana?!" Your father asks in disbelief. "this is the last straw, OUT! OUT I SAY" He came over and grabbed Nana by her collar, dragging her out of the room without another word.
Your mother shook her head in disappointment and looked over at you.
"(Y/N), could you help me tuck in the little ones?" She starts to tuck Wendy in. You assist her, tucking in your brothers and adding extra blankets in case they got cold.
Your mother talks to you all for a bit and goes to close the window, Wendy speaks up before she could lock it.
"oh, don't lock it, mother! He might come back!"
"him?!" Your mother raises an eyebrow and you chuckle.
"peter pan! see, i found something that belongs to him.."
"oh? and what's that?"
"his shadow"
"shadow?"
"mm, Nana had it. but i... i took it away" Wendy yawns out.
"oh? yes, of course... goodnight dear" Your mother retreats out of the door, you say goodnight aloud as well but when you go to leave, she places a hand on your arm.
"(Y/N) dear, could you please keep an eye on the children for me? With Nana being outside, i'll feel uneasy without you in here" She places a hand on your cheek.
"as long as you bring back my favorite sweets" You smile. She chuckles and kisses your cheek.
"i promise, dear. see you tomorrow" She gives your shoulder a gentle squeeze and rushes down the hall to your impatient father. You close the door and slip into Michael's bed since he was the smallest.
You close your eyes and tuck yourself in well, drifting off into slumber.
You wake when you hear music from the nursery music box playing.
"tink! shh!" You hear someone whisper before the music stops. Your heart starts thumping. You stay still not knowing what to do. Why did you mother leave the window unlocked? This could be a burglar.
You flinch at the sound of a thud a decide to finally sit up. A boy in green was fighting someone... or something?"
The fight however stopped and the boy was turned around and tending to something on his shoe. How in the world could you possibly sneak the children out?
Maybe you could strike him over the head with a -
"Peter Pan!" You hear Wendy say. You and the boy snap your heads toward her. That's when he finally noticed and realized you were in the room.
The boy look terrified of Wendy as she scrambled towards him. This was your first time ever seeing this Peter Pan that your siblings always wanted you to read about.
Does this mean Santa is real?
Peter was speechless, hurriedly rubbing what look like soap on his foot.
"you cant stick it on with soap, peter!" Wendy took the soap and turned on the lamp. "it needs sewing, thats the proper way to do it"
You close your eyes and take a moment to blink, just to grasp the situation at hand for a moment.
Wendy was still talking Peters ear off, and sewing his literal shadow to his shoe.
"girls talk too much" He cut into her story.
"yes, girls talk too m-... oh." Her smile fades at the realization. You gently toss the covers off of you and walk towards the two.
"excuse me boy, why are you in our house? and Wendy, this is a stranger, you know better!"
"oh but (Y/N), this is Peter. from our stories!" Wendy halts her sewing and shoves a book into your arms. You open it and see the poor handwriting and green boy on practically every page.
"this can't be..." You say to yourself in shock.
"no, this still doesn’t explain why you're here?" You frown your eyebrows.
"for my shadow of course! the dog jumped at me while i was in the window and grabbed it"
"well, what were you doing at the window?" You and Wendy ask in sync.
"i was listening to your stories?"
"but all of our stories are about you" Wendy replied. Which was true. You were 3 years older than Wendy, making you an adult now. But you never did stop reading and creating new stories for your siblings.
You never thought those stories were true though, you just heard of the story of Peter Pan and made your own bedtime stories from there.
"of course! thats why i like em, i tell em to the lost boys" He nodded and began to play some sort of small instrument.
"the lost boys?... oh! i remember, they’re your men!" Wendy says and makes the last stitch.
"uh-huh" Peter jumps up and looks at his shadow on the wall.
"i'm so glad you came back tonight. i might never have seen you"
"why?" He asks, still making goofy gestures.
"because i have to grow up tomorrow"
"grow up!?" He whips around.
"tonights my last night in the nursery" Wendy says with a sad look.
"oh Wendy, maybe father doesn't mean it. I didn't leave until i was 14" You add.
"no, i'm sure of it. father never breaks his promises, good or bad."
"you're right... well it won't be so bad, me and you sharing a room" You try to make her feel better.
"i guess you’re right..."
"so that means... no more stories?" Peter asks.
"mhm" Wendy hummed, on the verge of tears.
"no! i wont have it" Peter exclaims. "come on" He grabs her hand and starts to pull her toward the door.
"wait a second! she isn't going anywhere with a strange boy!" You tug Wendy toward you.
"He's not strange, he's Peter Pan! And that would be wonderful but... what would mother say?" She contemplated.
"mother? what mother?" Peter crossed his legs.
"a mother is someone to cares for you and loves you and tells you stories and nurture-"
"great! you can be our mother" He grabs her again but she stops on the window seat.
"well i'd have to pack and get changed and leave a note.. and i can't stay for too long and then i'll have to... oh but it's Neverland" Wendy smiles and turns.
"oh, i'm so happy, i think i'll give you a kiss"
"what's a..a kiss?" Peter asks.
"i'll show you" Wendy starts to walk toward him and you grab her.
"oh no you don't" Shimmering dust rapidly flew around and you start swatting.
"Tink, stop!" Peter says, using his hat as a net to catch the fast speck.
"John, John! wake up, he's here!" Michael says excitedly and crawls out of bed.
"huh...?" John gets up and puts on his glasses and gasps loudly. "jiminy!"
"what in the world was that?" Wendy asks, holding her hear and looking around.
"i think it was a bug of some sort" You answer, not too sure of it yourself.
"Tinker Bell. Don't know what got into her" He says, peeking into his hat and examining whatever it was inside.
"hello Peter Pan, i'm Michael!"
"and my name is John, how do you do?"
"hello" Peter greets.
"oh! look a firefly" Michael opens the hat
"a pixie!" Wendy corrects him.
"amazing!" John adds.
"i haven't gotten you're name yet!" Peter leans in your direction. You were standing closer to see this Tinker Bell.
"(Y/N)" You simply say.
The fairy shakes her head and makes bell noises, raising question in Michael. "what's she doing?" He asks.
"talking"
"what did she say?" Wendy asks.
"she says you're a big ugly girl" He chuckles and she laughs along before realizing. "oh... well i think she's lovely" Wendy compliments to the angry creature.
"well come on Wendy, let's go!" Peter walks toward the window and Michael grabs Wendy's hand.
"where are we going? He asks.
"to Never Land! Peter's taking us"
"Us?!" You and Peter ask in unison.
"Wendy, we’re not going anywhere with this boy!"
"but how could i go without you all?"
"when i said "we" i meant we" You point to all of your siblings.
"(Y/N), please!" Michael begs, tugging onto your night gown.
"i'm sorry, Michael, no" You sigh.
"just think about it a little, (Y/N), it could be fun!" John urges.
"or dangerous! i can't risk it"
"(Y/N), it's my last night in the nursery... you remember what that was like! please come with us, it'll only be for a short while, right Peter?"
"sure thing!"
As if you needed any reassurance from Peter. If anything he almost ruined her resolve. But she was right. You remember having to leave behind your siblings and grow up, it was no fun.
You at least would like them to have a fond childhood memory.
And that's exactly why you’re flying hundreds if not thousands of feet up in the air. The view of the morning was beautiful, the sky was pink and the water was still.
"oh Peter it's just as i dreamed it's be... oh look, John there's Mermaid Lagoon!" Wendy exclaimed.
"by Jove! and the Indian encampment !"
"oh look! there Captain Hook and the pirates!" Michael pointed our cheerfully.
A canon fires and Peter tosses Michael behind to save him.
"look out!" He ducks. "Tink, you take them to the hideout and i'll draw off Hooks fire!" Tink pouts and starts to fly ahead.
You all quickly rush to follow her but she was going too fast. "Tinker Bell, you're going to fast for us!" Wendy called out. The fairy sped up. "Tinker bell!"
Another canon fires, causes a nearby bird with missing feathers to crash into you, knocking you off of your course. You were dizzy from all of the spinning that the incident caused.
You were starting to feel sick. "W..Wendy? John?" You quietly called out, the world was still spinning around you. You could only make out the Island.
You do your best to safely fly down, but you have a rocky landing, sending you tumbling and hitting your head on a tree. You groan and everything goes black.
~~~~~~~
"oh? and how might a half-whit such as yourself go about Finding Pan? hm?" You hear a man rhetorically ask.
"w-well cap'm i'd say we go-"
"I COMMAND YOU TO GO AND GET THE PRINCESS, SMEE!" The man cut the other off and you heard whoever it was scatter.
You wince at the yelling, head still throbbing from earlier, and crack your eyes open a bit to examine your surroundings.
"where am i..." You ask, more to yourself.
"you, darling, are on the Jolly Roger"
"Jolly... Roger? that's a silly name" You go to reach for your head only to discover your bound wrists.
"silly? i won’t let a girl out in her nightgown talk down on my ship"
"oh, your ship? is that why you were yelling at that poor man?" You raise an eyebrow.
"you dare stick your nose in the business of Captain James Hook, girl? why i oughta make you walk the plank, hm?" He takes his hook and lifts your head with it, the cold metal made your skin tingle.
With him being so close, you could finally see him in his entirety. He was tall, had long and curly black hair, sported a mustache and a (somewhat) clean shave.
He looked great in his coat, it hugged him perfectly around the waist. You swallow thickly, imagining sinful things.
You were so distracted that you hadn't noticed that he didn't move away yet. You look up at his eyes and slightly move your head.
"that um... that’s too bad then" You clear your throat.
"hm?~ what’s too bad?" He asks, tone completely different from before.
"making me walk the plank.." You quietly remind.
"yes.. oh! yes! you're a lucky lass, you. i'm sure Pan will be here in no time, looking for you" He makes a pleased expression and tugs on his mustache.
"and if he doesn’t?" You challenge.
"then i guess i'll have you all to myself" He grins at you, showing off his gold tooth and sending a buzz down your spine.
"well, be back in a bit, and i suggest you don't disturb me crew with any shouting" He slams the door behind him, making your head tingle again.
You look around what looked to be his office. He had maps with markings and shiny collectables littered everywhere. Books and papers piled on the desk, it looked like he was making another map.
You sigh and close your eyes, hoping that Peter would eventually find you. You knew this was a bad idea.
~~~~~~~
"SMEEEEEE!" You hear the pirate scream out. You didn’t know when you'd fallen asleep, but you did.
"keep calm cap'm, i'm comin!" Smee calls out.
You hear screaming, and the sound of a ticking clock. Your curiosity was getting the best of you, making you want to go outside.
"okay, (Y/N), think of a big house... lovely animals... Nana" You close your eyes and feel yourself floating. You get closer to the desk and reach for the small knife on the edge.
Just as you had it in your grasp, the door swung open, making you fall onto the floor and cut yourself.
"ouch!" You groan, though no one heard you. Smee rushed in behind the hysterical Captain and placed a towel on his head and a bucket under his feet.
"oh Smee... he almost got me" You heard the mans lip quivering. You tried to sit yourself back up while the men were distracted.
"i know i know cap'm, you rest and we can go back out for Pan tomorrow" Smee cooed.
"b-b-but"
"be right back cap'm!" Smee left.
"blast that Peter Pan.." He grumbled. You kept quiet and he suddenly sat up, looking around. "the girl, where is she?" He looked around the room before finally spotting you near the desk.
"why you-" He winced at the sound of banging on the door. You both flinch and the constant loud noise and he gets up angrily.
He swings the door open and is hit on the head with a hammer by an unaware Smee.
He staggered back, losing his footing and landed back in his chair.
Smee came in with a smile and a tea pot. "oh, cap'm! it's good t see you smiling again" Poor man must’ve been knocked silly.
"you know, there's trouble brewin on the island. women trouble" Smee starts. "I wouldn’t want this to go any further, but supposedly Pan banished Tinker Bell.."
Well, this was new to you.
He began pouring the water into the buckets beneath his feet, you scrunch your face up, knowing how hot it must be. "um, Smee, was it?" You clear your throat.
"yes dear?" He asks, still pouring.
"i think that water's a bit too hot..."
"oh of course not, the cap'm hasn't said a peep abou-"
"wooooah!" The captain jumps up. He immediately grabs Smee by the collar. "well you doddering imbecile, i... did you say Pan has banished Tinker Bell?" He quesriones.
"aye aye, cap'm. that he has" Sme stumbles out.
"but why?"
"well on a count of Wendy, cap'm. Tink tried to do her in, she did. Tink's terrible jealous" Your jaw dropped at the news. Tink tried to kill your sister?
"well well" James taps his chin in thought.
"thats why we ought to leave, cap'm. this ain't no place for a respectable pirate." Smee dusts his shirt and puts his nose in the air.
"that's is, Smee! that's it!" James smacks Smee on the back, sending the poor man to the ground.
"i'm glad you agree cap'm" Smee adjusts his glasses.
"quick! me coat." The captain casts his blanket aside. "me best dress coat!"
"aye aye sir, the sooner we gets going, the better!" Smee rushed to grab the coat.
"ah yes, a jealous female can be tricked into doing anything. my case of hooks!"
"aye aye sir!" Smee grabs a small purple box near you and hold it out to the captain. "here you are, sir. your Sunday set, sir"
"If we impress the pixie, convince her we're eager to help her, the wench may chart our course, to a certain hiding place.."
"our best hiding place is the Spanish main sir, i'll set our course- oh!" Smee is snatched up by Hook.
"and where do you think you are going?" Hook asks with a cheeky grin.
"to tell the boys we sails with the tide, sir"
"you will go ashore, pick up Tinker Bell, and bring her to me." Hook drops Smee square on the head. "UNDERSTAND?" He shouts.
Smee blabbers out an "aye aye, sir" and quickly rows away.
"ah, looks like things are looking rather good for me lately"
"excuse me?" You speak up. He breaks his longing gaze at the ceiling and raises an eyebrow at you. "if you don't mind me asking, why exactly are you looking for Peter?"
Maybe it's because you haven't heard any new stories in years, but you didn't know why he would be out to kill Peter.
"it's not my fondest memory with that cursed Peter Pan... he cut off me left hand and fed it to a crocodile!" He touched his golden hook. "it still follows me, trying to take the rest o me to this day"
You ball your lips, fighting back your chuckle. "you must take good then, no?" You question, now crossing your legs.
"oh you think it's funny, aye?" He smirks. You expected him to blow up at you, so your smile faltered at his response. You only swallow, unsure of what to say.
"say, i'm in a good mood, i'll turn you loose for the time being" He walks up and reaches behind you, untying your wrists.
He hums and grabs your wrist. "how'd this happen, my gem?" He asks, holding your cut hand with his hook and carefully pulling back the long sleeves of your dress with his hand.
"and no that i think of it how did you manage to get from there, to here?" He asks, walking behind his desk and grabbing a gauze.
"i um... flew?" You ask more than answer.
"you must’ve hit your head pretty hard" He asks, gently wrapping your hand.
"it's the weird truth" You shrug, thankful to be able to move your arms again.
"do you drink?" He opens a chest and pulls out a glass bottle with dark liquid inside. He pinches two glasses between his fingers and carried the bottle over in his arm.
He set everything down and turned your chair to the desk.
"i've only tasted a few wines" You answer. "and thank you"
He pours you a shot amount and gets himself a full glass.
"for what?" He asks. You lift your hand and he waves you off. "that was common decency"
You pick up your glass and catch a whiff of the drink, immediately scrunching up your nose. You take a small sip and you're greeted with a burning sensation.
"this is very... unpleasant, to say the least" You frown.
"yeah, it definitely isn't for a lass like yourself, i'll tell you that much" He takes a sip from his cup.
"oh please, i could finish this... it just take time, that’s all" You brace yourself for the second sip.
"if you say so, missy"
"(Y/N)." You say sternly.
"apologies, (Y/N)" He says coyly.
~~~~~~~
"and so i say, what do you mean that's Peter Pan? i never met the boy before, i thought he was a figment of our imagination."
"i wish that wretched boy was only a tall tale. he's nothing but a pain in my arse"
Hook was leaning back in his chair, holding his 1/4 filled bottle. You were sitting on the desk, legs faced away from the man to not give him a peek under your gown.
You lazily hold your hand out and he hands you the bottle. "you know, you’re a lot quieter now"
"and you’re more talkative" He retorts. You tilt your head back and waterfall some of the beverage, spilling a bit of it on yourself.
"aye... aye!! that's me best rum that you're wastin!" He grabs the bottle from your hands.
He was close, so close that your noses were almost touching.
"sorry, Captain" You say in a teasing manner.
"it's quite alright, it's been put to better use this way, no?" He asks, looking down at your neck. "may i?"
You dazedly looked at his lips, making out his words as best as you could in your state.
"yes... you may" You nod. You didn't know what he was asking permission to do but you weren’t going to question it.
His eyes glance up at you for a moment as he stood up, only to look back down again and reach out.
He undid the bow that held your dress together at your chest, showing your cleavage.
"kiss me" You squeaked out. "please.."
He quickly granted your wish, a hand coming up to gently hold the back of your head.
The kiss was hungry and rough, from the both of you. You didn’t know his reason, maybe it's that he's a pirate. But you've wanted his lips on yours since you've saw him.
You found him charming in the, embarrassing kind of way. You wondered how he of all people became captain.
The kiss calmed down a bit and he took the opportunity to glide his tongue across the slit of your mouth, making you open in surprise.
"mmf!" His tongue slithered him, tasting of Rum and something sweet. You hold his arms and pull away from the kiss catching your breath.
"do you not have to breathe??" You ask in between breaths.
"why are you holding your breath? breathe through your nose" He says lowly, bringing you into another kiss.
This time, you took his advice, breathing through your nostrils. "better, right?" He states more than asks.
The top of your dress fell from your shoulders and to the crease of your arms during the heated make out sessions. Hook slid his arms along yours, dragging the dress off along the way.
Your breasts were exposed to the cool air, giving you goosebumps and making your nipples harder than they already were. Hook takes notice of this and chuckles to himself.
"a bit cold, hm?" He places the pad of his thumb over one and rubs circles around it.
"mhm" You bit your lip. His calloused palms caressed the soft flesh of your torso in a massage.
"almost forgot about me rum.." He mumbles before attaching his lips to your neck, giving you kitty licks as he made his way lower. "tastes better on you" You feel him smirk onto your skin.
"oh really?" You utter. Your breath hitches in your throat once you feel his warm lips wrap around one of your nipples.
You moan and tangle your fingers in in his thick hair, tugging at it lightly. "oh how soft you are, my jewel..." His breath ghosts over your now wet bud.
He shows the same affection to your other nipple, let it go with a 'pop'. You were very sensitive now, firm and ready to be touched again.
"how often are you told how pretty you are, missy?" He carefully slips the remainder of your dress down your legs. Your underwear was soaked in your arousal, only making the cheeky pirate grin harder.
"technically speaking... i'd say almost everyday" Your heart races in your chest as he slips his shiny hook beneath the damp cloth and moves it down your thighs.
"mm..." He kisses your inner thigh and your back slightly arches. "that's not nearly enough for a pearl like yourself..." His lips came closer and closer to where you wanted them with each kiss.
"what do you mean?" You ask out of curiosity. He pauses for a moment, looking up with pure eye contact.
"i would tell you every hour of the day~" Your cheeks heat and you put a hand over his face.
"oh shut it" You say bashfully and he chuckles, removing your hand and planting a tender kiss upon your knuckles.
"it is the truth" His fingers slip between your folds, making you gasp and grab his wrist.
He stops and looks at you, waiting for a look of reassurance. "would you like to stop here?"
"will it hurt?" You ask, started to feel the weight of the situation.
"do you trust me?"
You only nod. You let go of his hand and he starts to skillfully rub your clit. You bite back your moans, letting out only a sigh.
You made the mistake of exhaling through your mouth just as he began teasing your slick entrance. Eliciting such sweet moans for the Captain Hook.
His hands grab yours and slide them up to your chest. "try touching yourself here, my sweet" He suggests. You place the palms of your hands over your breasts and awkwardly squeeze them with a giggle.
"like so.." James reaches out and just barely rubs your nipple, making your lower back tingle.
You copied his movement and hummed at the new feeling. He puts you unoccupied hand back and lowers his head between your legs again.
This time however, he put your legs over his shoulders. You felt your lips being spread and something soft, warm, and fast brushing over the bundle of nerves.
Your legs immedeitly try to close on him, but he keeps them open. Your hips rocked in sync with his tongue and beads of sweat formed at the intensity.
"you taste phenomenal... i could do this all day.." His low voice vibrated through you, sending your hand flying to his hair and gripping the thick locs harshly.
One last and low "mm~" from James, and you were over the edge, subconsciously holding his face as close as possible to you while you rode out your high.
You collapsed on the table, back flush against the wood. Hook peered over you with a grin. And his hand searched your body again.
"you're so perfect, a true diamond" Hook smiles, dragging his cold hook along your still hard nipples. He slipped a finger into you, making you gasp again, but this was one that he caught with a kiss.
You moaned into his mouth while his finger went deeper and deeper into you. The previous orgasm allowed him to slide the digit in with ease, letting him know to add another finger.
He deepens the kiss as he slides the second finger in. Going in and out of you at an insane pace. Your arms wrap around his neck and you break from the kiss for a second just to roll your eyes and hang your head.
"it feels so good..." Your voice broke.
Not long after your statement, you came undone, shaking violently with a broken moan. "oh James~" You pant, feeling winded.
"what is it, darling?" He asks with a voice full of sultry.
"this is crazy" You look up at him.
"it's about to get even crazier"
~~~~~~~
You were pretty sure you moans were ringing throughout the ship. Poor crew mates weren't getting any sleep tonight. The sound of James's thighs sticking to the bottom on yours.
A mix of his and your cum making a mess between the two of you. He would probably fill you to the brim if you let him.
James's eyes fixed on the way your breasts bounced with every one of his powerful thrusts, and more importantly, the new deep sensational feeling between your legs.
His back rested against his large purple chair, and his hips thrusted into you like there was no tomorrow.
"James i'm gonna- shit!" Your eyes squeeze shut as you experience your 3rd and final orgasm in this position. You were spent.
"gem~" Hook called out.
"hm?" You lazily look down at him.
"i need one more favor from you, if your up for it~"
~~~~~~~
"shit... just like that" His eyes peer into you as he watches you, making you feel even more naked than you are if possible.
You were sitting in the chair now. Squeezing your boobs around this mans aching penis while he jerked his hips towards you.
You curiously stick your tongue out, being greeted with the salty tase and soft feeling of his tip.
He let out a sound almost like yours and started bucking forward. You kept licking and squeezing and he kept letting out something like a whimper, it was cute.
"oh... i'm cumming" His large arms grab on to the head of the chair and he cums on your lips and chin. His eyes were low and tired.
"i could tell that felt good" You tease.
"oh better than you could imagine" He wipes your chin and kisses you once more. But he could feel a smile tugging at your lips.
"what is it?" He smiled back.
You shrug and slump into the chair. "I strangely feel happy"
"it's not strange, i feel happy too, love" He reassures and your cheeks heat.
"okay where's your bathroom? I need to get clean" You ask, escaping the enclosure of his arms holding the chair you were inn.
"you don't want to go there to get clean, us pirates use mother nature" He answers. He grabs his jacket and his button up and walks over to the office door.
His head was on a swivel, making sure no one was up. He beckoned you to follow him, so you did. He tosses down a ladder and began climbing down into the water.
You peek over the edge and see nothing but still, open water. It as sparkling from the moonlight. You take a few steps back and jump. Letting out only a yelp instead of the scream that fought to errupt.
You swim to the surface and wipe the water from your eyes.
"you'd fit right in with me crew" He shook his head. "those crazy bastards"
"you should try it sometime" You shrug. You start you dip yourself deeper into the water, rubbing your arms and face to scrub them clean.
You hear a faint Tick- Tok, in the distance. You look around with your eyes narrow, as if it would help you see further.
"do you hear that hook?" You ask.
"hear what?" He goes quiet. You see constant ripple coming toward you and look in his direction to see him shaking.
"are you okay?"
"s-s-s-smee... Smee" The Tick-Tok grew louder. and you turn to see a crocodile. Your heart races in your chest and it swims toward you.
You try to swim away but it catches up, and fast. You just knew you were going to die, hoping for a nice eulogy at your funeral, but it swam past you, licking its lips.
It wanted James, James almost jumped out of the water when he realized. "SMEEEEEE"
The dad's best friend trope is my weakness and Sir Lewis hamilton is my bigger weakness. Lewis catching you moaning his name while he's house sitting while your parents are gone and giving you the real deal.
oh you bitches are freaky - as always, reader is over 20 :)
lewis had been tasked with house sitting for the weekend. he was off for the next two weekends and when your oldest friend asks you to look in on their house while they're outta town, you do it - it doesn't matter if you're a 7 time world champion.
he headed over, it was early in the morning so he figured he'd pop in, water the plants and head out.
his friend had told him his daughter would be around, he wasn't sure if she'd be home that weekend as she was in college and she comes and goes as she pleases.
lewis fully expected the house to be empty, there were no cars in the driveway or were there shoes by the door so he headed in, did his rounds to water the house plants and just as he passed by the staircase to head out, he heard it.
the faintest whisper; a part of him assumed he was hearing things but when he heard it again, he headed upstairs to see what was happening.
your bedroom door was wide open and from the top of the stairs, lewis could see everything; legs spread with your hands between them, head tipped back as you made yourself feel good.
he knew he shouldn't be watching - you're his best friend's daughter after all.
"lewis-" you cut yourself with a sigh, fingers still moving. your eyes were closed, you didn't realize he was there - last you checked, you were home alone.
he can't help himself when he steps closer - "you called?"
you reacted as fast as you could, sitting up and pulling the blanket over yourself. "wha- why are you here?"
"your dad asked me to check on the house."
lewis moved closer, now in your room. the man leaned on the wall, his hands behind him as he looked at you. there's a smirk on his lips, pressing them together.
"you called, darling?"
"hm?" your brows furrowed, the redness of your cheeks gave away that you knew what he meant.
he moves; walking to your bed and stopping next to you. "what were you thinking about?"
"you."
his hand finds your chin, holding it. "tell me what it was, im sure you have a vivid imagination."
your eyes met his as you whispered all the filthy fantasies that spun around in your head, he clung on your every word as you spoke, his brown eyes shifting from your eyes to your lips, to your neck and back to you.
"shall I show you exactly how I'd do that?" he leans into you, his lips ghosting over your neck. you're frozen, unable to speak so you nod.
lewis pulls away, his eyes meeting yours again. "use your words."
"yes, please."
"good girl."
Lucy, Lockwood and George, after everything.
(show edition. I'm not going by book canon for this one, so don't worry about spoilers)
At 21 or 22, Lockwood is the first of them that starts to lose his talent.
Which makes sense, since he's the oldest. At the beginning he refuses to even acknowledge it, but Lucy and George figure out what's happening soon enough. For a while he's just ashamed and angry and sad all the time. Then it gets better: Lucy and George get him trough it. He also calls Kipps, and they talk for hours, both coming out of it feeling almost at peace (Kipps has gone back to school and is talking about wanting to become a teacher. Which Lockwood feels like should surprise him, but actually doesn't).
Lucy is next. It breaks her heart a little (because of skull and all other type 3s) and it scares her a lot. But then she realizes how soothingly quiet the world can be at times, and lets herself think that maybe she will be alright.
George is last. And the thing is, even though it saddens him to lose the one thing that connected him to ghosts, mainly he's relieved. He's been waiting for the other shoe to drop for a while, and now that it has, he's ready for whatever may come next.
The jobs get more and more rare as they hear, see and feel less and less. Lockwood knows he could hire new kids to replace them, but in truth he doesn't really want to. Perhaps Lockwood & Co. can be laid to rest at last: after all, they've already achieved more than he ever dreamt. So the next time a client calls, he informs her they've shut down and gives her the name of an up-and-coming independent agency he's heard great things about. He only feels mildly guilty about it.
Even if they're technically not his employees anymore, George and Lucy stay. They don’t talk about it, but the idea of moving out of Portland row and living lives that aren't intrinsically intertwined feels wrong to all three of them: they're a family, after all, and nothing has to change about that.
Still, they need to make money somehow. So they muse about going far away from London, opening a bakery, living in a small house by the sea. But in the end they stay, both in the city and line of work they're used to. Because they do belong there, it's undeniable. George, of course, goes into ghost research and becomes a leading voice in the field, discovering new ways to help agents all over the country. No one is surprised, but everyone is proud. Lucy one day shows up at Barnes' office to ask him about becoming an inspector. It's the last thing either would have expected, but when he asks her why, she says it feels like the best place to be to help kids like her. To stop people like Jacobs. So he gives her a job. She's determined to change things from the inside. Barnes thinks that if someone could, it's her. And Lockwood... well, it takes a while for him to figure it out. But one evening Lucy comes home talking about a kid left deeply traumatized by a job gone wrong, and suddenly he knows. The next day he calls the bank to open up a pro bono clinic for agents and ex agents in need of psychological treatment. After less than a week they already have their first client.
Slowly but steadily, it becomes their new normal.
Lockwood sets up a study in the room on the stairs and works mainly from there. George, on the other hand, works at a lab in the City: he is the first to leave in the morning, but he always comes home soon enough to cook dinner. Lucy keeps slightly more irregular hours, and sometimes her job keeps her away for longer than she'd like. But then again she occasionally gets to come home to the adorable view of the boys fast asleep in front of the tv, so that's good.
One day Flo brings them a stray cat she found while working: they name him Donut and spoil him way too much.
Lucy starts gardening. George grows a magnificent beard (Lockwood is not jealous of it). The fridge breaks down and they have to buy a new one. Airf's son replaces him at the shop. They put up a hammock in the backyard, and spend their vacations piled into it. Mrs Burke from across the street knits them all hats for Christmas. Lockwood adds new framed articles on the walls and new knick-knacks on the bookshelves.
He's not sure when, but one day 35 Portland Row stops being the home his parents left behind and becomes his home. Their home: his, and Lucy's, and George's (and Donut's. And Kipps' when he comes over for lunch on Sundays. And Flo's when she swings by using her own keys. And Barnes' when he stays for tea after long work days).
So they keep going as they have, day after day, year after year, slowly growing older. Wounds heal and scars fade. The sun shines through the kitchen windows on summer mornings. The smell of persian food fills the air every evening. Old rapiers get dusty in the umbrella stand. There aren't any ghosts between their walls, both real and metaphorical.
Everything is alright.
Our Chaotic little family| Charles Leclerc
Tumblr media
Notes: This is around 4.5k words and ive not proof read it so im sorry in advance for that aha, also I dont speak French so im sorry if either anything is incorrect or the fact he his French and this is an English fic. But I hope you guys enjoy some protective dad!Charles xoxoxo
Blurb: One where you daughter gets a boyfriend, and Charles is not happy about it at all.
Warnings: Swearing, some small angst with angry Charles.
You and Charles had known each other since before you could remember, he had always been the boy next door that you had a huge crush on. After he set off on his formula 1 career you didn't see that much of him, thinking the ship had sailed, but somehow fate made it happen. You had been lucky enough to get to love each other when you were only young, Charles was 20, you were 19.
You both experienced the bittersweetness of young love, until eventually he was the man you wanted to spend every waking moment with, you were never sure if you wanted to ever get married or even have children for that matter, but with him it was different.
And here you were, you were married and had three children, and you couldn't ever think you could be more happy.
Your oldest, Leo, was now seventeen, his dad takes him out at least three times a week teaching him to drive. You hadn't had the confidence to let Leo drive you around yet, but you knew with Charles he would learn quickly, you knew because Charles was the first person to teach you to drive a car too.
Your third and youngest was little baby arthur, who earned his name after giving you the most chaotic pregnancy of them all. He was only seven years old, he had gotten a lot more better behaved with age but was still your little menace. Charles used to say that he would be a footballer when he was older considering how much he liked to kick your stomach. He was born three weeks early at the Monaco Grand prix. A story for another day, but even before Arthur was born he was a handful pregnancy so that's how it was an easy decision to name him after Charles' youngest brother, who was also a chaotic handful.
Your only little girl, Juliana or jules was fifteen turning twenty one. she was starting to experience the world of womanhood. She wasn't as much her daddys little girl as she got older, something Charles had grown to hate.
Jules was your best friend, you wanted her to have the comfort of knowing her mum was there for her throughout her whole life, something you never had growing up. She had recently told you about a boy she had grown to like, you knew she had been hiding something from you, so did charles. You knew she would tell you about this boy soon, Charles however was praying that her happy mood had nothing to do with the male species.
You were standing in the kitchen, baking some cookies for a birthday party for one pierres children and Arthur junior was helping you, and by helping he was just eating all the chocolate chips. It was a late sunny friday afternoon, the type of restful afternoon where Charles wasnt off racing that weekend, the kind of fridays you liked to hold on too.
Charles was talking Leo out for an afternoon drive and Jules was sitting on the sofa giggling at her phone like the giddy little love struck child she was.
Leo was scrambling around the house to find his lucky driving shoes and Charles came up behind you in the kitchen, wrapping his hands around your waist and leaning forward to kiss your temples. He looked up to see what you were looking at, but his brows furrowed when he was his little girl twirling her hair and giggling at her phone.
“What on earth could she be laughing at her phone like that for?” He said.
You rolled your eyes at your husband's words, spinning around and placing your hands on his chest. His eyes still glued on his daughter.
“Her friends probably sent her a funny video.” You tried to shrug it off, but Charles wasn't dropping it.
“Mon amour, I know that look.” He looked at you, shooting you a knowing look.
A smirk crawled on ur lips as you turned back around to watch your daughter who was now sprawled out on the sofa on her stomach, twirling her hair, biting her lip with her feet swinging in the air.
“What look?”
“You're her carbon copy, y/n. I know that look a little to well.” He glances at you with a knowing expression.
“Dad! I'm ready!” Leo's voice echoed around the kitchen causing Charles to kiss your lips quickly and whisper a goodbye.
“Papa! Gross!” Arthur shouted from where he was perched on the kitchen counter, an empty bag of chocolate chips in hands and the rest all around his mouth.
“I'll go to the shop for you on the way back or your chocolate chip cookies aren't going to be very chocolatey.” Charles said to you looking back at his son in gramance who was touching every surface in the kitchen with his chocolate covered fingers.
After Charles left you gave Arthur a bath, watching as he climbed in the bubbled filled tub with all his toys.
“Mama, is papa your boyfriend?” He asked you, just as you were about to exit the bathroom.
“No sweetheart-” you giggled at your son's randomness, “he's my husband, we got married long before you were born.” You perch down by the bath, dipping your fingers in the bath, splashing him slightly making him giggle.
“What makes you ask that?”
“Julie has a boyfriend.” he said, blowing some of the bubbles from the bath.
“How do you know that?” You knew it was wrong to get Arthur to tell you all the gossip, but he was a great little ear wiger.
It wouldn't be the first time he had told you and Charles a story that he had accidentally overheard. Like when Pierre and his wife first found out they were expecting another baby Arthur had accidentally overheard a private conversation about Pierre's wife not being able to drink alcohol, after that you and Charles added up the dots.
“She was saying she has a boyfriend on the phone, I heard Julie saying papa would be mad.”
You took a moment, so it was true, your daughter did have a boyfriend…
After getting Arthur out of the bath you decided to let him play with his toys in his room while you went to speak to your daughter, who still hadn't moved from her position on the couch. You decided to sit next to her and pry some information out of her before Charles got home.
“Soooo.” you said, pursing your lips, sitting across from her. She didn't even make the effort to look up at you, just a simple hum.
“Julianna.” you said sternly, that caught her attention as he raised her eyesight slightly.
“Yes, mother.” She sarcastically said, rolling her eyes at your use of her full name.
“Okay, if you want to be like that.” You said with a smirk, leaning over and switching off the phone and pushing it down onto the sofa.
“I just want to talk, you've seemed a bit… occupied at the moment.”
“I'm sorry I have friends.” she sarcastically said as she sat up, crossing her arms of her chest with a frown.
“Not only friends, I've been told you have a more than a friend.” You cringed as you said it, you were bad at this.
“That little shit! Authur told you he didn't.” she said, shocked.
“Language, missy! It doesn't matter who told me, but I want to know what's going on in your life, you can trust me.” You smiled, uncrossing her arms and talking her hand in yours.
“There's a boy…” she mumbled.
“Tell me, mon cheri.”
“He's not my boyfriend though.” You noticed the hit of sadness in her eyes as she looked down.
“It's silly, i know your going to tell me i'm too young-”
“I don't think you're silly, mon amour.” You said, pulling your arms open so she can rest her head on your shoulder.
“In fact, I probably understand more than anyone else.” you kissed the spot behind her ear, tucking her hair back as you could tell she wanted to listen to what had to say.
“You know, I was about, maybe fourteen when I fell in love with your father.”
She raised her head to look up at you, “Really?”
You nodded your head with a small smile at the time, “I don't think I knew at the time, but I always had a crush on the boy next door for as long as i could remember.”
“It took your father a little longer than me to realise he liked me back, he came and gate crashed my first proper date.”
“What?” She said with a smile as she begged you to tell her the story.
“Your father was such a romantic, he walked into the restaurant right as the mains came out and said there was a family emergency and he needed to take me home. Then we got in his car and I was all panicked wondering what the family emergency was and he just kissed me.” You couldn't stop the smile that formed on your lips as you told the story. It was all true, Charles had gate crashed your first proper date, and ever since you had both been inseparable.
“That's really sweet mum.”
“The point is, these things take time, especially love. I don't doubt your feelings for this boy if you say you have them, and if he feels the same he will show you sooner or later.” You smile at her, holding her closer.
“I really like him, mum.”
You were about to reply when Leo and Charles both stumbled through the door. You kissed Julianna on the head and stood up to see your husband smiling with slightly flushed cheeks and a bag of chocolate chips in his hands.
“How did your driving lesson go baby? You asked Leo, ruffling his long brown hair, the exact same way his father has it.
He just shot you a sheepish smile, shrugging his shoulders and he looked over to his father who smiled slightly.
“Hes- hes learning, that's all that matters.” Charles said as he looked at Leo with a smile.
When Leo walked off to his room Charles followed you into the kitchen, placing the chocolate on the side.
You waited for Leo to be out of ear shot before Charles burst out with giggles in the kitchen.
“Was it that bad?” You smiled as Charles placed his head on your shoulder.
“Mon dieu, i'm just happy to get home in one piece.” he laughed as he brought you into a hug.
You watched as Charles noticed Jules was still on her phone, but he didnt question it this time, he decided he was going to have a shower and get into bed.
After you had made the cookies for tomorrow you decided it was time for bed too, you decided to check on the kids before you did, leo was playing on his xbox and you could hear julie was on the phone in her room so you left her alone. You could hear faint giggles from your room so you knew you didn't need to check on Arthur since he and Charles were curled up in bed watching a movie.
You smiled as you jumped in the shower, leaving the boys to watch their movie and by the time you were done Arthur was fast asleep on charles.
Charles looked up at you with a cheeky smile.
“He's excited for tomorrow, I told him Pierre got a bouncy castle for the party.”
You leaned over and gave your husband a long kiss on the lips.
“What was that for?” he smirked.
You shrugged before you got under the covers, pulling your book from your bedside table and putting on your glasses.
Charles watched as you put the goddamn glasses on that he loved so much.
That's when he got out of bed, pulling Arthur up with him, probably to put him to bed.
“I will be right back.” Charles whispered with a wink.
“I'll be waiting.”
The next day it seemed like a struggle to get everyone up and out the house. Arthur was ready first with Charles as they were both sitting on the sofa watching the tv. Jules had gotten changed about seven times and Leo was upset that he couldn't drive the whole family to uncle perrie's house. Charles just replied to his son with an honest answer that we all did want to make it to the party in one piece. And on the down side you hadn't felt the best all morning.
After putting on a small yellow summer dress you were ready to step out into the Monaco sun.
Pierre had three children also, Noah who was around Leo's age, the pair got on really well, they reminded you of Pierre and Charles when they were younger, Noah even had pierres charm and witty humour. And then there was arlo who was six, with only a few months age difference between him and arthur the pair got on really well, and pierres new baby layla, who was turning one today.
After finally managing to get everyone in the car and to Pierre's house you could relax slightly more. Pierre and Charles stood in the garden by the bbq with beer in each hand while you sat on a chair lounger with a smile on your face as you held the birthday girl layla.
You were reminiscing when Arthur was this small, when his whole hand would fit into your palm, but your smile never faded when you looked to see Charles smiling over at you. You held up Layla's hand and waved at him, and he waved back, his heart fluttering seeing you with another baby.
“Please don't tell me you have baby fever? Thinking about popping out another one.” Pierre nudged charles.
“What, no.” Charles blushed.
“So, you're all done then?”
“I don't know, we've never spoken about having more.”
“Well judging by the smile on her face, she's already thought about it.”
When charles turned back around to look at you he noticed you making your way from the garden to indoors, you had mentioned all morning that you haven't felt well, he could only assume you was going to be sick, judging by the look on your face he handed pierre his beer and ran down to the bottom of the garden to the patio doors to pierres garden.
When he walked through the doors he bumped straight into your back.
“Mon amour, are you feeling okay?”
But you never answered Charles' question, instead you stood with your mouth wide open looking over to the sofas in the corner of the room.
After seeing your attention was else where charles turned around to see what you were looking at, but his face flushed red when he was his precious little girl and pierres stupid son with his tounge down her throat.
“Oh no!” Charles shouted, his hand falling from your shoulder as he pointed at the two teenagers that had just been caught.
“No fucking way in hell, get your hands of my daughter gasly!” Charles shouted as the two teenagers scrambled to make as far distance between them both as possible.
“Noah is the boy you told me about?” Your mouth had been agape the whole time, you were not expecting that.
“You knew?!” Charles turned to you, his face still flsuhed as there was steam practically coming out of his ears.
“Well i- I didn't know it was Noah she was talking about.” You shouted back at charles.
“You told your mum about me?” Noah smirked at Jules as she blushed a deep shade of red and put her head down.
“Mum, dad you're really embarrassing me.” she said through gritted teeth and wide eyes.
“Don't look at her like that gasly or I swear to god I'm going to-” But as Charles went to make his way over to the young boy who was standing still behind the sofa. Pierre had come in after hearing all the competition from outside, placing his hands on Charles' chest as he pushed him back before Charles could finish his sentence.
“Why are you shouting?” Pierre said to his friend, “What's going on?” he asked as he turned to you.
“What is going on? Good question pierre, what the fuck is going on, both of you!” Charles pointed to the two guilty teenages in the corner, that's when Pierre turned around and had figured out what was happening.
Pierre was trying to stifle his giggles as he looked at his son, his best friend's daughter and back to his best friend.
“No way! This is great, Jules is a great girl Noah, I'm happy for you!” Pierre exclaimed and turned to smile at you, you just nodded at the man with a smile. At least one of them was happy.
“What? No!” Charles looked back at Pierre who had a very contrasting reaction to him.
“He is not good enough for my daughter, no one is, Julianna get in the car, we're going home!”
“Charles.” you called, but he didn't hear you.
He was shouting and you had a massive headache, and also so much was happening all you could tell was he was acting very irrational right now.
“What do you mean not good enough for your daughter?” Pierre asked, offended as he stepped to charles.
“You know exactly what I mean. I know what you were like as a teenager, remember?”
“Charles-” you tried to interrupt.
“No y/n, i'm right. He's just like you, see that little smirk on his smug face, I know what he wants and he's not getting it from my daughter!”
“Dad!” Jules shouted from across the room as hers and Noah's face turned red.
“How dare you say that about my son!”
“I'm not wrong Pierre, you used to get through the girls when we were younger, I doubt he's no different!”
“Charles!'' You shouted his name one more time, however this time you caught the attention of Pierre who looked over charles shoulder to see you looking rather green with a hand over your mouth.
All of pierres attention suddenly turned to you as he cocked his head to the side and his eyes widened.
“Charles, I think she's going to throw up.” And with that Charles realised the reason he had abandoned his stop at the bbq to follow you in her anyway.
“Shit, mon amour, are you okay?”
You didn't reply, just shaking your head as you held your hand over your mouth and ran to the toilet.
Charles had gone to follow you to the toilet but then he noticed a hand around his daughters waist and his attention changed.
“HANDS OFF GASLY!”
And with that Noah's hands were in the air as Jules pulled him off of her, tears welled up in her eyes as she looked at her dad.
“I'm not your little girl anymore dad!” she shouted before running back outside.
Charles groaned as he ran to where he could hear you being sick in the toilet, he grabbed your hair and rubbed your back.
“Mon amour, what's going on?” he asked as he handed you some tissues to wipe your mouth.
“Charles, I need to tell you something.”
“I'm listening.”
“We're going to need a bigger car.”
Charles' expression dropped as his slight smile faded.
“Don't worry about that right now, you sick, okay? Once we get you home I'll buy you all the bigger cars in the world.” He smiled but you could see he thought you were delusional as he looked you head in his hands and kissed your forehead.
“No charles, we need a bigger car for an extra person.” you giggled.
“If this is about Noah, he's not coming home with us?” Charles shaked his head as he looked at you.
You laughed again at how clueless he looked, you took his hands in yours, “we need another car seat too.”
“We got Arthur a new one last month- Mon amour? Are you feeling okay?” Charles was getting a bit nervous now, you were making no sense to him.
You look at his hand that was in yours and placed it on your stomach.
“Charles, I'm pregnant.” you smiled at him as you whipped the dribble from your chin.
“Surprise.” you smiled, lazily waving jazz hands as you dropped against the wall of the toilet, your head hurting even more after throwing up.
“Are you sure?” Charles' eyes lit up as he leaned over closer, his hand still on your stomach.
You nodded as you looked down at his hand and placed yours on top.
“Another one?” Charles let out a laugh as tears welled up in his eyes.
You both laughed as he moved so he was next to you crouched against the wall and you placed your head on his shoulder.
“How long have you known?” he asked you, kissing your temple as he tried to stop the tears.
“I've known for a few days, since when we went for that meal with Carlos and Isa and I was sick.”
“I thought that was food poisoning?” Charles laughed.
“Yeah, apparently not. Insted we have a sixth member to add to our not so little family.” You giggled.
After what felt like a few moments in silence with Charles as he held your stomach, continually kissing your temple and head you spoke up, nursing your little bubble on the toilet floor of Pierre's house.
“Charles, you need to apologise to Pierre, Noah, and jules.”
Charles groaned as he threw his head back, “let me just stay in here with you for a minute.” he complained.
“Do I really have to apologise?” he asked you with a pout.
“Yes.”
Charles helped you to stand up as you both made your way out the bathroom, Charles could sense the angry looks from everyone at the party as he could see his daughter crying into her uncle carlos’ arms as he gave Charles a death stare.
“Go apologise to her.” you ushered him on, he gave your waist a small squeeze as he kissed your temple and looked in a deep breath.
“Will you be okay?”
“Charles, go.”
When Charles made his way over to Carlos who had his arms wrapped around julianna as she sobbed into his arms you sat down on the outdoor sofa. Rubbing your head as you sunk back into the pillows, you prayed this pregnancy would be an easy one, and hopefully your last.
Until there was a little cough that caught your attention.
It was little Noah with a glass of water in his hands and a very nervous smile as he ushered the glass towards you.
“Thank you, noah.” You smile as you take the glass from him.
“Could I please sit, y/n?”
“Of course you can sweetie.”
You liked Noah, you could understand where Charles was coming from, Pierre was a very typical teenage boy growing up, but you knew from Noah's parents that he had been brought with the morals to treat girls properly.
“Are you feeling okay?” The young boy asked you.
“I'm fine, dont worry about me, are you okay?” you asked him, rubbing his shoulder as you could see how tense he was.
“I'm really sorry, I didn't want to get jules in trouble.” you giggled slightly at the boy.
“No ones in trouble noah, just confused.”
“Charles- he can be scary when he's angry.”
You laughed again as you looked at the boy, “don't be scared of charles, he wouldn't hurt a fly. He's just protective of his little girl.”
There was a silence that loomed for a second as you both watched Julianna and Charles hug in the garden, a sign that they had made up.
“I really really like your daughter.” You turn and smile at Noah, the smell of young love radiating from him.
“I don't doubt your feelings, noah. But I am worried you both might be a bit young and naive. I know you don't want to hear that right now, but just be careful. We don't choose who we love, but we can choose who we hurt.”
And with that you engulfed Noah in a hug as he whispered to you a small thank you.
“First my daughter and now my wife, maybe I should take it all back.” You looked up to see your husband with a sheepish look on his face as Noah flushed red.
“Dad!” Jules shouted as she hit his chest causing him to moan a small sorry.
After that Noah sat up, shaking hands with charles.
“I'm here to be civil noah, you seem like a sensible young man, don't prove me wrong.” Charles nodded at Noah who replied with a ‘yes sir’ causing you to giggle.
“And if i see your hands on her again don't doubt that i won't-”
“Dad!” Jules repeated, “you said you wouldn't threaten him!”
Charles finally let go of Noah's hand, eyeing up the boy as he and Julianna walked off. He came and sat next to you on the outside deck, wrapping his arm around your shoulder as he kissed ur temple and quickly rubbed his hand over your stomach when no one was looking.
“Let's hope this one decides she doesn't want to get married until she's at least forty, or even speak to boys.” You giggled as charles moves his head closer to your stomach.
“You hear me, no boys!”
“How do you know it's a girl?”
“Oh it's a girl, I can smell the trouble from here.”
You laughed as you leaned into his shoulder.
“Did you make up?”
“We did.”
“They grow up so fast, y/n.” Charles sighed as he watched Leo think he was being discreet with his uncle Max as Max was letting him have a few sips of his beer, Arthur was jumping on the bouncy castle like he had been all day and Julianna was laughing with Noah in the corner.
“Well, we still have one more to enjoy, and athurs always going to be a momma's boy.” You shrugged as Charles turned to you.
“No way he's a daddy's boy.”
You laughed at Charles when you realised he was being serious.
“Oh no way, Arthur definitely loves me more.”
“At this moment in time Leo is my favourite.”
“Charles, you can't call favourites!”
“I can, and mine is leo.” charles smirked
You laughed as you snuggled up to your husband more, happy and content with your little chaotic family.
