Animal crossing bear pillow. After making the bags I had some canvas bear face prints left over so I decided to throw together a quick little cushion. This is a nice and simple build and used the paw print lining fabric and an old zipper and stuffing I had lying around. Animal crossing shoulder bag. Made in a few days using canvas and other materials. After seeing the amazing @heylizardleigh animal crossing lost item bag I felt inspired to have a go at one myself! The base is black and white bear print pattern with a red edge, all with iron on backing and a plastic bottom for structure. The canvas sides and flap and flap our tea dyed before painting on the bear face with a 3D printed stencil. The lining is the bear print fabric with a red phone pocket and pencil holder sewn in. To make sure it holds the paper bag shape under the strap the sides have velcro sewn in and the flap is uses press studs. The whole thing can comfortably fit an iPad. May the 4th be with you! In honour of this prestigious day I thought id finish up one of the contenders from last year's Christmas decorations, the Mandalorian and child. The Mandalorian is a simple silver bauble with an electrical tape visor. Repulsor arm display case. Made with an aluminium case, foam, faux leather and other materials. After I made my repulsor arm I figured It needed a proper display and have been pottering about on ths for a while so glad to finish. From the outset I wanted this to fit in with the original film so everything was Stark Industries branded. My cannon is after the highway battle, Coulson snuck down to Stark’s workshop to hide a few things away in case the police came searching so he grabbed the case, shoved the arm in, wrote a quick note and sent it to the warehouse. The stand is an aluminium briefcase I bought before gutting the interior and filling the bottom with a custom cut black foam form. Inside the lid was a little tricky as the arm barley fit but I was able to replace the lining with EVA foam and create a document holder from cardboard and faux leather, using a 3D printed stamp for the stark Industries logo. The logo on the top of the case is also 3D printed and spray painted metallic before being glued on. The stand for the arm is a piece of dowel, wrapped in foam with a support for the hand and held up using clear acrylic. As a final touch the folder and blueprints I had worked on earlier were added along with a Stark Warehouses tag for the handle. Stark Industries folder and stationery. Another piece to fill out the repulsor arm display, I felt the blueprints needed some accompanying documents so I had some fun designing a Stark branded folder and letterhead. The folder is a standard Manila folder dyed in tea to get the vintage look and run through an inkjet printer for the logo. The Top Secret stamp on the front is 3D printed and stamped in red paint. The letterhead was a bit tricky but as part of the Deadpool 2 marketing, he was rejected from The Avengers using a Stark Industries stationary. Repulsor arm blueprints. After creating my Iron Man arm last year and deciding on a display (coming soon) I figured it needed some decorations. Been meaning to try sketching again so I drew up these blueprints. I took some photos of the arm, traced over them for the general shape and scanned it into illustrator before inverting the colour. From there I had fun designing some Stark Industries blueprint layout and rough notes. Mardi Gras decorative boxes Made over 2 days using cardboard boxes, wrapping paper and coloured card. These were part of the suite of decorations I made for a Mardi Gras party. I was asked to create some simple decorative boxes to display around the event. I got some free boxes from a local store and wrapped them in pink and purple wrapping paper. Now for the fun part! the designs were improvised with whatever scraps of coloured card, glitter foam and paper I had lying around, the idea was simple scifi scenes with an LGBTIQ+ vibe. Compared to my usual projects that take 2-3 months of detailed work this was a nice change of pace with each box taking about 20 minutes. The scenes came up really well and I'm especially proud of the planets and UFO. Fallout Mini-Nuke display crate. Made in a week using a wooden wine box, paint and paper. After having fun making the Mini-Nuke model I felt it needed a proper display stand and an empty wooden wine box was the perfect start. After shortening the box I added an extra handle, I used some scrap timber to make a rough crate lid then painted the outside a watery ollive green and muddy finish. The army stencil was designed in illustrator then 3D printed in reverse and sprayed on. Now comes the fun part! As this is entirely custom I had some fun creating some Vault-Tec and army stickers, aging, and adding them in (covered in a previous post). The finishing touch was a stamp designed and 3D printed (a fun experiment). I'm really proud of this one! 😁. As the whole design was custom I was able to have fun thinking about the story behind an object like this and what it would look like. Star trek insignia Christmas ornament. Made using 3D printed parts, glitter and glue. Saw this one a little while back and thought the look was so cool I had to try it. This was a nice simple one again, I found the discovery insignia on thingiverse (link below) and modified it slightly, although the design is simple enough this could also be done in cardboard or clay. Once printed this was painted silver, coated in glue and covered in glitter (the dangerous part haha) before attaching the string. These look stunning stunning and look are really striking with the other decorations. Portal Christmas Decoration. Made over 2 days from 3D printed parts and clear gloss paint but could easily be done in coloured card if you have more patience than me! Saw this design on Thingiverse (link below) and thought it would make a nice bauble. The original was just the plate so I added the ring at the top. Made up of 3 parts per side, each part is printed in black, orange, cyan or white PLA (I needed to buy new rolls anyway haha). They are then lightly sanded, glued together and sprayed in clear gloss spray paint. Pokeball Christmas Ornament. Made over 2 days using red baubles, white spraypaint, black tape and a white circle. This collection wouldn't be complete without a Pokemon tribute. Just get a red bauble, mark off the top and spray the bottom white. Cut the black tape into a 1cm strip then wrap it around the middle. Stick a tape circle over the join and glue a smaller white circle over that. The glossy red and white looks fantastic with the black and makes for a very classy design. Die Hard Christmas Decoration Made over 2 days using silver mirror card, glue, paint and a paper printout. There are two types of people: those who think Die Hard is a christmas movie and those who are wrong 😁. This fun design inspired this whole project! A very simple build, just glue together a open box out of the card, mirror side in. Print out the image of John in the vent and glue it to the back in a curve, paint the outside silver then attach the string. The image at the back coupled with the mirror sides is startlingly effective and looks very realistic. Fallout Mini Nuke cross-section model. Created over 2 months using 3D printed parts and acrylic paints. Saw this model on Thingiverse and It looked so cool I couldn't pass it up (Link below). I’m a huge fan of the fallout games and aesthetic! After a bit of research I figured contrasting the rusted military exterior with the clean nuclear interior (pun intended) would look great. Also a good excuse to experiment with weathering paints. After a trip to my local model shop I printed the parts in black plastic before spray painting the interior in metallic silver and painting the exterior in army green and red. After gluing the exterior together I masked the yellow strip, making sure sections were ragged to get a chipped effect, then modeled, printed and painted the fake screws for the base and body. Now comes the fun bit, using a brush and sponge I painted the dark rust on, taking note where rust would likely collect and how it would age. The model is then coated with a darker shade, basically watered down black and brown, which gets into the cracks and gives the surface a dirty, aged look. Watered down orange is then painted on the dark rust as highlight and then watered down light red is painted over the dark red for wear, the same is done for the yellow. Finally another layer of shade is used in the larger cracks and black spots are added to finish the outside. The inside is a lot cleaner and simpler with metalics. The majority is silver with copper, gold and bronze highlights. I wanted to emphasise the cut-out effect by keeping the edges clean silver like someone has literally cut it open. I am super happy with this 😁 the contrast between the ancient military exterior and the clean nuclear interior makes the whole model pop.
