A truth that should set you free
First off, I want to let the readers of this blog know that this is going to be a long lost, which is fairly unusual for me. that being said, it has to be long because it is immensely important. I also tend to write in a more general manner without opining about my specific and individual beliefs.  That one is going out the widow an bit here too.
This morning, I woke up horrified. But now, I am somewhat overjoyed. The reason is that last night, I had what would most likely be refereed to as at least a bad dream if not a nightmare. I was putting on some sort of gooey concoction in a mirror that was supposed to temporarily darken my skin tone, something like a bronzer in theory. But then after that, I saw myself in a different place with my face looking different, something I can only describe as dark with evil. Naturally, you can see why this would cause any reasonable person some stress.
And, being an individual who experiences the condition of scrupulosity as a major part of my Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, I was devastated.  And while in matters of things like illness symptoms and religious philosophies, turning to the Internet for answers is probably a bad idea. Hopefully with this blog being one of the few exceptions.
I didn’t turn to dream analysis (I don’t buy it) but to other more religious-based information. And, while funneling through the plethora of the bizarre and unsubstantiated, I came to my own conclusion based on personal reflection and looking deep into my heart.
The dream was either:
1. Nothing but synapses firing off in the brain
or
2. Something within trying to tell me that the darker side of myself was not the real me but simply a mask hiding my true nature.
If it was the first option, then there is nothing more that needs to be said. But, if it was the second, this is amazingly telling in regard to the nature of humanity and evil in this world.
Many wonder about the devil/satan/lucifer...and want to know whether this being is real or not. Well, the answer I believe, depends on your definition of the word “real.” Perhaps it would be better to use the following terms - literal or metaphorical.
The conclusion I have come to based on prayer, study and personal reflection is - literal no, metaphorical yes.
Virtually all holy texts from ancient world religions and even those that are much more modern, not including the opinions of people who just seemingly feel compelled to write religious books, have either no notion of such a being or use wonderfully eloquent language personifying the notion of evil in order to help people understand such an intense and abstract concept.
If you diligently and heartfully read through such texts, this will become more and more apparent so long as you are open to reading it.
The bottom line is that the devil/satan/lucifer is a figurative representation of the worst elements of mankind.
Some have called it “the lower self” others have refereed to it as the ego, still more theologians and philosophers have used an assortment of other terms. But the point of my message, as well as my dream (I suspect) is that the devil/satan/lucifer/, lower self, ego...is a mask that hides the true self, the soul, higher-self, etc.
When we come to realize this, we no longer need to fear some mythological being likely created to help pagans transition into other religions and control the populous. We can now focus on the true message, that evil does indeed exist but it is not our true self. The true self will always win out in the end.  For even the greatest of masks can’t hide the truth forever.
And knowing this, accepting that and believing this, is the truth that will set you free.

Stop knowing and start feeling
A common situation that comes up in many common and widespread religions and faith structures is an emphasis on knowledge. That is in terms of knowledge of dogma, practices, rituals and regulations of some sort. And while this may be good in some ways, there can also be a major issue in that taking such an academic approach could very easily result in losing touch of a deeper and more powerful truth.
When one “knows” these things, it is possible that he or she may reflect too much on said knowledge and not enough on truly understanding the essence of the message they may be intended to convey. Without feeling the purpose of the message they hope to relate to us, the idea of simply “knowing” is rendered hollow and pointless.
To use an example, without ever having felt the warmth of the sun on your skin on a beautiful summer day, simply knowing the average temperature in INSERT TOWN NAME HERE in July is 85 degrees Fahrenheit means virtually nothing at all. You have the knowledge but nothing to relate it to.
So too is academic knowledge without true heartfelt living and feeling.
Ultimately, our greatest goal is to feel, such as we can do through offering and experiencing love, compassion, mercy, forgiveness, kindness...This is the realization of knowledge in its ideal form. If you try to live by such principles, all the rest of it is just details.

Do not fear your thoughts, let them go
As a person who lives with OCD, I have found that not only do those of us with this condition have unwanted thoughts but we all do from time to time. And that can be hard when so many organized religions and faith structures teach us that we are responsible for the content of our thoughts.
In my opinion and understanding as obtained though reflection and personal soul searching and study, I think that when we do not look into this concept deeper, we miss the essence of the message it was probably intended to convey in the first place.
It’s not the thought itself but what we do with it. If we either:
Act upon our thoughts of judgement, hate, fear, indifference...
or
Let such thoughts consume our being
then we have the problem that I feel was the intended message that we may have missed or forgotten in our dogmas and doctrines.
So the point is, you are not your thoughts and they do not in any way define you. It is what you do with them that matters.

We are not perfect, and that’s OK
In many world religions and faith structures, it is emphasized that human beings are not worthy or not good enough for the divine. The way this has been beaten into people over the centuries has often resulted with an incredibly negative impact built on lack of self-worth and unjustified guilt.
Yes, it is true that not one of us is or shall ever be on the level of God / The Creator / The Universe / Life Force or whichever term you may use. But, our understanding of what that means may possibly be seriously flawed.
God / The Creator / The Universe / Life Force,,, is indeed perfect. Thus, unless we ourselves where this entity, we ourselves by design cannot be perfect. And. if we where not designed to be perfect, then it is OK to have flaws. In fact, I believe our flaws are in some ways a blessing. How you may ask? Well, they allow us to overcome obstacles, they allow us the opportunity to help others who are struggling and they essentially allow us the chance to experience that which is humanity.
So, the next time you worry or struggle with the notion that you are not perfect or not good enough, remember that you are who you are supposed to be, perfect in your imperfections, Just know that it’s OK to be you.

Easy to forget, easy to remember
As humans and in our day to day lives, there are times that we can become consumed by the ideals of a given culture, dogma, or other understanding or experience we may have.
In this occurring, it can become very easy for us to lose track and forget our spiritual connection with each other as well as with God / The Life Force / The Universe... But the truth is, if we simply take the time to recognize it, recalling our part in this world and in all of creation is not hard to do either.
Simply take time out to focus on the fact that each one of us was created with the ultimate force of love. So, within each and every one of us, although perhaps buried deep beneath the layers of pain, sorrow, confusion...their a a foundation structured of a great spiritual love for all of creation.
While it may take some longer than others to realize and accept this, perhaps even beyond the point of physical death, eventually all will come to see it as truth and an unbreakable bond between ourselves and that which had put us here in the first place.
