Chidi Anagonye, the man who was literally killed by his indecisiveness, knew without any debate or advice that he was ready to move on, and was the first of the main cast to walk through the gate.
Jason Mendoza, the loud-mouthed dimwit whose idea of hell was a world where he was forced to be quiet and wise, spent thousands of cycles alone in contemplation of the universe, and sat patiently until he could provide his final act of kindness to the Not-Girl he loved.
Tahani Al-Jamil, the woman who needed constant validation for her achievements and talents, decided to spend the rest of (the foreseeable) eternity by sitting in the shadows and creating the simulations that would help others become their best selves.
Michael, a demon who by nature despised all of humanity, found his happiness in becoming a human, and in learning to grow and change for the better.
Janet, the AI who had no purpose other than to fein happiness and provide for anyone’s desires without question, learned to not only love but to think and feel for herself.
And of course, Eleanor Shellstrop, the woman who needed no one, who owed nobody anything, did not ever spend her time in the good place alone, and refused to walk through the gate until she made sure that everyone else she knew was happy first.
Each of them ended their stories with their original faults/sins resolving to become their greatest virtues, and these virtues became the things that gave them the peace to move on and be one with the universe. This show was absolutely beautiful and there won’t be anything quite like it.
Just because Billy’s Jewishness isn’t everywhere, as it isn’t for most Jewish superheroes, doesn’t mean it doesn’t matter.
I’m seeing far too many folks on twitter commenting how Billy’s Jewishness doesn’t matter because it’s only like three panels, compared to his sexuality. It is literally telling Jewish people especially LGBT jewish people that our sexuality is much more important than our ethnicity and religion… which is all sorts of screwy. Stuff like this is why I was under the firm belief, that Billy had way more of a chance to be accurately portrayed as Gay, than Jewish.
Kitty’s Jewish identity got erased in just about everything she’s ever been in, save for X-men evolution, but even then she never talks about being Jewish.
But more to the point. It’s excusing instances of comic book Jewish erasure and using it as justification for more Jewish erasure.
Here are the facts. Billy stated on panel, he identifies as a gay Jewish Avenger. His parents Jeff and Rebecca Kaplan are Jewish. A character who did not know Billy’s real name, knew he was Jewish. That means it was mentioned somewhere at some point off panel. Kat Farrell article?
Both Gillen/McKelvia and Tini Howard & Kei Zama erased Billy’s Jewishness. To the point where Death’s Head actually had a 666 inside a Star of David, for no reason. I’ve ranted so much about this. IDK what to even do anymore.
The Lapsed Judaism comment was stupid, and I already called Al Ewing out on it. but he remedied himself. This is your reminder, that you cannot be a lapsed Jew, the way you can be a lapsed Catholic. I can be secular, but I am still Jewish. My ethnicity doesn’t change just because I didn’t go to temple.
Billy had a Jewish wedding. Not only that, he and Teddy got married twice. The vegas wedding had a Jewish officiant. And Rabbi Lowenthal presided over the other ceremony, which was held first and followed by the Kree/Skrull traditions.
Kevin Conroy, the iconic voice of Batman in many notable works, has sadly passed away at the age of 66. He will forever be the voice of Gotham's greatest protector for me, as I'm sure he will be for many others. He positively impacted my childhood and brought life to the most meaningful and compassionate Batman since the character's inception. Rest in peace, hero. You were vengeance. You were the night. You were Batman.
this may be an Unpopular Opinion (even on tumblr) but like the 8-hour workday is just Too Gotdamn Long
like even sitting in an office for eight hours a day isn’t particularly pleasant (or healthy, as we are beginning to see) but when we’re talking about doing *actual work* for that same amount time it gets pretty fucking brutal
doing literally *anything* (even leisure activities) for eight hours straight tends to be less than enjoyable but when we’re talking about things like construction, landscaping, factory work, and hell, even foodservice and retail, eight hours is a fucking ETERNITY
i might just be a lazy weak-willed bitch but honestly i think i’m not entirely wrong
My NYCC 2022 haul from this year. Might not have got everything I wanted but this year was pretty good. Even got one of the Marvel mystery chase pins and all great commissions.
