#luther hargreeves defense squad

i can safely state that i can't see how allison hargreeves can be redeemed at least for me. pushing aside her easy dismissal of viktor's bond with harlen (despite the fact that her entire breakdown surrounded having to leave her family from the 60's but i guess that doesn't matter for SHIT when it's other people), and the fact that she acts like harlan's actions led to claire not existing (despite the abysmal chance of her being born even with allison's mom not dying), and that she has this mentality that she suffered worse than her siblings (don't even get me started 🙄), but honestly it was her sexual assault on luther and how the fandom has just easily dismissed it. what's even worse is that she sexually assaulted him by making him believe he wanted it, so there was literally no way it could actually fight back in anyway, physically or mentally. there's something inherently more disgusting about that. in the other seasons, the show balanced having the hargreaves act morally wrong and at times unlikable but still not entirely irredeemable (such as my annoyance towards s1 luther and viktor) and they did get more likable. but i can barely stand the scenes she's in because that gross ass scene keeps flashing in my mind, and her behavior is just so obnoxious ESPECIALLY TOWARDS HARLAN. HARLAN IS LITERALLY THE ONLY AUTISTIC REPRESENTATION I'VE SEEN IN TV AND SHE ACTS SO GROSS AND BITTER TOWARDS HIM FOR HIS "UNPLEASANT" PERSONALITY.
yeah, people are comparing this allison to wanda (i don't even like wanda) but at least wanda didn't sexually assault someone. allisons stans (by this i mean people who justify her actions NOT anyone who finds her arc interesting) dni. being in any proximity to ur dumbasses is bad for my heath (my doctor told me) 😀😀😀😀😀😀

I recently re-watched the first season and I can say that Luther was already a sweet dumbass, who loves his siblings  and wants to protect them (he literally uses his own body as a shield for them countless times). All of that was already there, mixed with the notion that he had to be Number One, that he needed to be perfect and that he had a responsibility to lead and make decisions. Now that he's overcome this whole Number One thing, we're just seeing his bright side shine a little bit more. I'm not saying that he's perfect (he isn't and he made a lot of mistakes), but he always had a good heart.

i will never be over the fact that every single EVERY FUCKING SINGLE problematic thing about the siblings (except maybe five but im pretty sure there was abuse there too) is caused by fucking reginald
luther being incestous, doesnt know how to handle emotions well and cant sympathise with other people
diego being violently and unknowingly wanting to prove himself and be a “hero”
allison not knowing how far is too far until she realises that she cant rumour herself out of the situation
klaus getting addicted to drugs because he doesnt wanna see dead people anymore
five being so dead set on proving himself right that he ended up spending 50 something years in the future
ben fucking died for fucks sake
and vanya being too trusting and awkward and gets easily attached to people
literally each of these issues couldve been avoided if reginald treated them like actual children with potential than soldiers in training

Hey, TUA S2? Do ya think you could give me a Luther redemption arc that’s comic canon and blows my mind? Cause I kind of love that wrecking-ball/monkey-man.
(I am imagining so so so many scenes of a kind-hearted-bionic-monkey-man that we were shorted last season. PLS DON’T LET THAT HAPPEN AGAIN. I love Luther Hargreeves.)

Diego: Hey, do you know my blood type?
Luther: Of course, it's B positive.
Diego, nodding and pulling out IV: Ah, so I guessed wrong, could you please call an ambulance?

The thing that will always kill me about Luther discovering Reginald sent him to the moon for nothing is that he didn’t even immediately lash out or blame his Dad, even though that would have been a reasonable reaction. No, his first instinct is to say that he wasn’t good enough, he wasn’t a good enough leader or a good enough number one or a good enough son. He didn’t cut it. And then immediately after he says that he wasn’t the right person to stop the apocalypse, that the world needed a leader and he wasn’t it.
I honestly have no clue how anyone could watch that scene and still think that he’s selfish, wasn’t traumatized by Reginald, and is nothing more than a jerk who locked Vanya up.

I really have to wonder how the Luther antis/hate squad will continue to unjustifiably shit on him now that he’s 13-14 years old again.
EDIT: set pre-season 2 when I thought they’d be de-aged.

I appreciate your Luther positivity so much he's such a well written character and the fact that people will have no sympathy for him specifically is. Sads.
!!!! thank
he's just, such an important character to me? even setting aside the fact that tom hopper absolutely SLAMMED so much love and softness into that role, and setting aside my love for gentle giant characters and big brother characters, and setting aside the body dysmorphia rep -- they had this big cast of kids whose lives were ruined by their experiences with abuse in such myriad unique ways, and they NEEDED to show the kid who was the "favorite" and was given special treatment and was manipulated into keeping the other kids in line because!!!! that's a legitimate abuse tactic!!!! he was groomed to believe that his father cared about him and that he saw something special in him and that what he did mattered and holy shit reginald turn on your location i just wanna talk
god and i was really about to be like "can you imagine when it finally hits him" but it literally DID and fandom treats that as anything other than the tragic moment it was
(and i've said it before but i wish so badly that the writers had made him and allison very close siblings rather than going with like, pseudo-incest, because all of his interactions with her are consequently ignored by fans, like "i wish i'd been there with you" "you were" and then later his goofy little smile with claire on the phone like HELLO??? this spaceboy is SOFT and ADORABLE and once he gets some THERAPY he's gonna be like that ALL THE TIME)
this got away from me but basically fandom needs to accept luther hargreeves as the soft big brother he was always meant to be, thank you for coming to my ted talk

In the second episode of the first season, Luther realized he was wrong about the accusations he made against Diego and spent the whole day waiting for his brother just to apologize to him. And then he talked to Allison about how he made a mistake and regretted it. So Luther apologizing to Vanya, after having a whole year to think about everything that happened, is the most natural thing for him to do. There is nothing too fast or "out of character" in this scene. Luther was already  (canonically) a person who can recognize his mistakes and apologize for them. You guys apparently slept through all of his scenes in the first season. That's the only explanation

as much as incest discomforts me, i kind of get Luther and Allison’s “relationship” and why it was there (i’m assuming). all of them were homeschooled, so they probably didn’t have friends other than each other, the only human interaction they have other than that is the media, who probably doesn’t know the living conditions they’re in. they probably get “ do you as a boyfriend/girlfriend?” questions, because you know, they’re the media, and they always have to say “no hahaha” and say something about that they don’t have time for that kind of stuff. but they’re kids damn it, i’m pretty sure at one point of their life, they wanted to have at least a normal teenage life, one where they date whoever they want, do whatever they want, and say whatever they want and not be a role model at such a young age.
what i’m trying to convey here, is that, they are so emotionally awkward, especially Luther. Luther probably just knows how to talk to the media, and that’s assuming he doesn’t have a script ready in his head. even when Reginald gone, Luther is still following someone’s orders, he doesn’t know what to do without it, he doesn’t know what to do with himself. he’s so dependent on someone to tell him what to do.
i keep missing my point, but honestly, Luther doesn’t have anybody else but Allison, yes, it’s still incest since they were brought up as siblings, but you have to be in Luther’s place to understand this, Luther thinks he wants Allison that way but that’s because she’s the only woman in his life, other than Grace and Vanya. plus, the only person in his life who he’s closest to is also Allison, unsurprisingly. he just thinks that Allison is the love of his life and has fully convinced himself that she is.
Luther spent the majority of his life with no other human interaction that would lead to or at least hint to having a relationship with. Luther has convinced himself for the majority of his life that his father is doing what is best for them. Luther has convinced himself for the majority of his life that he is and has to be the perfect number one his father expects him to be to the point of bottling his emotions long enough that they just burst every time he gets mad enough.
all of these^^^, absolutely each any everyone of these are Reginald’s fault, if he didn’t enforce a hierarchy and such high expectations of these children, Luther wouldn’t be this emotionally stunted, none of them would be.
all of them need therapy, you can’t expect them to just do their Growth™ after a few years with no professional help

If I have to read another fanfiction where Luther literally makes fun of/antagonizes his siblings for their trauma/sexuality/stutter(lmao im looking @ u diego stans) im gonna fucking scream. luther never makes fun of his siblings for their trauma, he only jokes to allison about diego’s outfit and later critiques his job, and he is dismissive/ignorant towards klaus’ issues with Reginald/drugs. but he would never make fun of them or judge them for it. im getting so sick of seeing fics where luther makes fun of diego’s stutter, if anything he would have tried to “fix it” or help him to improve his speech given his role as number one.
