We passed this female feeding on the edge of the lake, towards sunset, as we we exploring one of the many inlets on Lake Kariba. She was pulling up torpedo grass from under the water and cleaning it by vigorously hitting it on water as she drew it up to her mouth.

El Deadvlei una planicie de arcilla blanca que se encuentra en el Parque Namib-Naukluft en Namibia, su nombre significa "pantano muerto"
Dicen que las dunas que lo rodean son las más altas del mundo, aunque por lo poco que he contrastado esta información parece falsa. En cualquier caso, las dunas alrrededor son muy altas y de una gran belleza. conforman en conjunto el paisaje más extraordinario que he visto nunca.
Este “pantano” se formo con inundaciones de un antiguo rio cercano lo que creaba piscinas temporales de poc aprofuncidad que permirtían la proliferación de la vegetación. Así crecieron estos árboles (Acacia erioloba. Cuando el clima cambió el río quedo bloqueado y el “pantano” rodeado por dunas, la sequía se hizo más fuerte y los árboles murieron.
Los esqueletos de estos árboles, se estima que tienen 900 años de antigüedad, han tomado un color oscuro, quemados por el intenso sol del desierto, pero su madera no se ha descompuesto debido a las altas temperaturas y la falta total de humedad.
