Hello Visitors!

After a half-year-long back-and-forth, I’ve decided not to open the auction for a third, 2023 round. You can read a bit about my reasoning below, but the most important part: I am so, so thankful to all of you for the last two years. This has been a spur-of-the-moment thing and you all made something amazing, something precious out of it. Thank you so much!

The accounts will be active until the end of the 2022 round (May, 2024, and a bit after), and keep all content afterwards. Please reach out if you have any questions or concerns!

Thank you again! You’ve all been, all are, wonderful. 

As to why I’ve decided to discontinue the event: some of you might know that I’ve been running it alone for the past one and a half years - and while everyone is lovely (seriously!), keeping track of everyone and everything is hard even when you don’t over-stress everything, which I do. Added to this that my offline life is going to be very busy, it became obvious that I could not keep up with the event with the same attention as I’d like, as it’d deserve. 

At the same time, I cannot tell you how precious this is to me. I know most of us have been struggling with whatever politics are around us, no matter where we live, and as a hungarian who has watched hate-campaigns and restrictions and limitations of rights being piled upon on our LGBTQ+ people (among others!), and as someone who knows we are a small country with few eyes on us, I am beyond thankful that we’ve created this event, that you all have stood up with me, with us. Thank you!

And a thank-you to my previous co-mods and the Fandom Trumps Hate team too, for being integral to the creation of this event, and for giving us the base materials to work with, respectively.

PS: I’ve thought about running a themed week, so that the people who’d like to participate still have the opportunity to do so, even if in a different way (and because I don’t actually want to let go of all of this). I’m hiding this at the end here, because this summer is already looking busy for me, but let me know if you’d like it, and I’ll see what I can do!

Ennek több oka van, de végeredményben egy dolog számít: nagyon, nagyon hálás vagyok mindannyiótoknak az elmúlt két évért. Ez egy pillanatnyi döntés eredménye volt, és valami értékeset, valami csodálatosat hoztatok létre belőle. Köszönöm!

Another year is gone, and I had a wonderful time participating in @justlikebudapestauction yet again! This fan event is a Black Widow fandom charity auction whose proceeds are donated to support Hungarian LGBTQIA+ and human rights organisations. For this, I offered my skills as an artist to create a custom drawing for whoever made the highest bid on my offer.

I am very pleased to have Lou as my highest bidder, because I was requested to draw a piece accompanying their short story. It was a delight to read it, get involved in the atmosphere and incorporate it into my artwork. Thank you, Lou, for the collaborative exchanges on this and being so patient with my replies!

You have less than four days [to grab yourself something] from the [wonderful offers] of this year’s Just Like Budapest auction. 

Today we’ve came to you with a fun fact (and a reminder of the offers you can choose from - find them at the bottom!):

You know how we are a bilingual fandom auction? Well, Hungarian is, in our not-at-all-biased opinion, a wonderful language. So wonderful, in fact, that we had to have an extra amount of letters - 44, precisely (opposed to the English’s 26).  Having this many letters usually comes with a constant fight to find fonts that have all the necessary ones. The Black Widow font that we are using, of course, doesn’t have them. Or any, besides the 26 from English. (Not that we are not still thankful it exists!) So every time one of our images needs an accent/macron, we’ll put it in an editing program then butcher the letters until we get something resembling to what we need. Fun!

Még négy nap!

Valamivel kevesebb mint négy napotok van [szerezni magatoknak valamit] az idei Just Like Budapest aukció [ajánlatai közül]. 

Ma egy szösszenettel jöttünk (és egy emlékeztetővel, hogy milyen ajánlatokból választhattok - ezeket megtaláljátok a magyar szöveg felett közvetlenül!)

A jó abban, hogy kétnyelvű aukció vagyunk, hogy használhatjuk a magyar nyelvet, ami mindig szuper. Ami még jobb, hogy a magyar annyira extra, hogy az angol nyelv 26 betűjéhez képest nekünk 44 van.  Ez persze azzal jár, hogy folyamatos küzdelem olyan betűtípusokat találni, amiben mind a 44 megtalálható. Például a Fekete Özvegy fontban amit használunk, természetesen, nincs meg semmi az angol abc betűin kívül. (Pesze így is hálásak vagyunk, hogy egyáltalán van!) De ezért aztán minden alkalommal amikor egy képre ékezet kell, berakjuk egy szerkesztő progamba és addig vagdaljuk és nyúzzuk a betűket, amíg kapunk valamit ami legalább hasonlít. Éljen!
