Hey everyone, quick update. I won’t be continuing to use my tumblr account as it is taking up too much time I’d much rather spend painting.  If you wish to stay up to date with my latest work, please follow me on instagram @lisa.chilinski or twitter @lisachilnski or like my page on facebook www.facebook.com/lisachilinski

There's been a lot of controversy around the Inktober challenge this year, due to this a lot of people aren't participating in order to take sides or stay out of the issue. But I believe Inktober is about the art community, and supporting any artist  to continue challenging themselves to turn drawing into a daily habit or improve on their skills, not about the Inktober creator himself. So I will be participating this year, not to show my support for either party, but to challenge myself.
So I've already thumbnailed out my ideas for this Inktober, and played around with what inks I have. I know that traditionally you're supposed to keep it black and white but I just can't help myself in adding a pop of colour! I'm thinking a kind of peachy-orange, similar to my branding.

While I didn’t fully like the final product of my animation, I did enjoy the outcome of this time-lapse.
I modeled the background in Maya, and added some lighting moving across the room. I then exported that, drew over it in procreate to get the base colours down. Then put it all together in After Effects.
This is by far my favourite part of my animation and probably the last post I’ll make about it here.

The aspect of making my final animation that I enjoyed the most was designing, so of course designing an apartment for my character was fun to do. This was the end result in flat lighting.

In my final year of studying animation at university, we had to make our own short animation. I was not super proud of the end result as it was rushed and my motivation was low. I did however, like how these colour variations turned out for the forest scene, even though I went with the first one.

After being able to use an incredible Cintiq tablet to work on at BFC, I came home finding I had to reteach myself to draw using a Wacom tablet. This was incredibly frustrating and hard to get back into, so at the start of 2019, I bought myself an iPad Pro. I had heard good things about the drawing apps compatible with the tablet, and having a portable screen I could draw on seemed like the way to go.
The day I got it, I unboxed it and wanted to draw something to test it out. I had recently gotten the concept art book for Zelda’s Breath of the Wild “Creating a Champoin”, and it had a piece by Takumi Wada. So this is a study of that piece, it took me about an hour and I loved the results. I knew I had made the right decision.

Found some progress photos of an ink study from highschool. I don't think I ever finished this one (poor Deadpool).
Original by RobertAtkins found on DeviantArt.

My business cards finally came in! I'm super happy with how these turned out, though I can't really hand them out to anyone right now considering. Also I did notice there is a slight colour difference on the back than there is the front.
Of course I designed these myself and printed through Vistaprint.

Here are some progress shots for my #Colour4life entry. You'll notice the paper got really warped after burnishing the background, but honestly I'm just proud of myself for actually remembering to take progress shots throughout this entire piece ahaha 😊 #art #artist #illustrator #illustration #design #chilinskidesign #fabercastell #colouredpencil #fabercastellaustralia #colour4life2020 #experiment #nature #abstractart #progress #colour

This is my entry for the #Colour4Life 2020 competition hosted by @fabercastellaustralia . Colour has always been so inspiring to me. The power colour can have over a piece is something that never ceases to amaze me, it can change the perception, emotions and story of a work. Maybe this is why learning to use the right colours for your work can be such an overwhelming task for some people. When it comes to experimenting with colour, I am definitely one of those people, but that’s no excuse to keep it more of the realistic side. To help with colour experimentation in this piece, I abstracted the shapes as well. I think it turned out pretty cute! 😍 This piece was made using the Faber-Castell classic coloured pencils from their 48 pack. I’m hoping this could be a nice reminder to artists that you don’t need to buy loads of expensive materials to made decent art. To any artists in Australia reading this, head to colour4life.com.au to enter the competition yourself before the end of September!

While it is a little (very) late, I would like to say a huge thank you to the people at Sydney based pre-production studio Big Finish Creative, they’ve re-inspired my love for design and without them, I wouldn’t be on the path I am today. I learnt so much during my time at this pre-production studio, and it definitely solidified my desire to work in the creative field.  While studying animation at university, it didn’t feel right for me and I found myself getting frustrated with the process and the work I was producing. Enjoying the process of making something is crucial to a happy work life in the creative field, not just enjoying the outcome of your work. BFC showed me what I enjoyed and gave me so much support, taught me so many things, and gave me a huge range of resources to continue my creative journey, ultimately reigniting my passion for illustration. So thank you to Chloe, Josh, Kan, and Luke. All of whom welcomed me, answered all my questions, and showed support to not just me, but other interns as well. #art #artist  #illustrator #illustration #design #BFC #thankyou

I know all I’ve been posting is some studies but I really enjoyed doing this and the progress I made is so obvious; here’s one of the first ones compared to one of the later ones. I spent such a long time doing these and loved every minute of it.
