More that Matters 4
Fandom: Marvel
Pairing: Eventual Steve Rogers x Reader
Summary: A surprise arrival unexpectedly brings you and Steve closer together.
The excitement of your score and ranked hadn’t dissipated from your veins before another push of excitement and worry slammed right in.
Moments after the general had changed your score there was a knock on the door and a soldier stepped in.
“Captain Rogers, Emmanuel Hernandez, the soldier you requested transferred has just arrived and we need some processing before we can clear him.”
Your heart jumped as you realized that Emmanuel was there, then you were seized with worry as you realized that he wasn’t cleared yet. Was there a problem? Had you failed after everything? You tried to control your dread, but you were worried that something was wrong and you couldn’t be there to help-especially since you had started this.
Steve caught your eye and gave you a sympathetic nod, as though he understood what you were thinking. Then he surprised you.
“Ms. Y/L/N, why don’t you come with me?” he said.
Relief flooded through you and you jumped up out of your seat. Apparently you were eagerness showed through. Across the room Tony crowed.
“Ooooo, does this happen to be the same Emmanuel that you called in the simulation? Go help your lover boy!” he said with a smile.
You felt your face heat with embarrassment.
               “He’s not,” you said.
“Could you be serious for once Tony!” Steve snapped at him.
“Hey, I was being serious. I am serious about wanting you to help that kid. He knows how dismantle bombs and he kind of outsmarted my simulation so anyone that smart would be a great addition to the team.”
Steve nodded tersely at him and then the two of you left.
When you reached his office, you saw him sitting on the bench and the familiarity of the friend you’d grown up with rushed through you in a comforting wave. You rushed towards him.
“Manny!” you exclaimed as you threw your arms around him. He hugged you back enthusiastically.
“Glad you’ve been alright Grasshopper. I was worried about you,” he said.
Behind you Steve cleared his throat.
You jumped away from Manny and turned back towards him. For some reason he looked slightly miffed, as he beckoned you to follow him into his office.
“I need to talk to Ms. Y/L/N alone for a moment,” he said.
You closed the door behind you and Steve took a few moments trying to compose himself before he looked up at you with a hint of vulnerability and question in his eyes.
“Second Lieutenant Emmanuel Hernandez is Manny to you. Was Tony right about him being your…”
“No. Emmanuel and I grew up together. He’s my best friend and my best teammate. We joined the army together, went through training together, and we went through the qualification training for this course together, but we’ve always been and always will be only best friends,” you explained.
The tension in Steve’s body and face dissipated. Relief rushed through him and he felt the knot in his heart ease. Then something else registered and he felt delight fill him up. A broad grin spread across his face and a laugh bubbled out of him.
               You smiled, his delight infectious.
“What’s so funny Steve?” you asked.
“You. You stole a uniform, faked a rank, to save your best friend. You had your best friends’ back the way that my best friend has always had mine. That’s exactly the kind of thing Bucky or I would do.”
“Sergeant Barnes is Bucky to you?” you asked, mocking him by imitating his earlier tone.
He laughed again before sitting down across from you, leaning back casually.
“How’d you know Bucky’s full name and rank?” Steve asked.
“There are whole museum exhibits about you, you know,” you replied.
               “Well-about Captain America,” you corrected.
“There’s a difference to you?” he asked.
“Yeah. To me, Captain America is your work persona. It’s the attitudes and actions and characteristic you take on to do what you need to do for your job, but to me it’s a small part of who you are.” You said.
Steve grinned at you and grabbed your hand.       "It has been so so long since someone truly saw me for who I am outside of Captain America. I can't tell you how refreshing it is to be with someone who I can be myself with," he said.      "Well your true self is pretty awesome-someone I'd like to be friends with and get to know. Regardless of what happens here. If that's what you want of course," you said.       If possible Steve's smile grew brighter.       "If that's what I want? Y/N there is no universe where I would be able to resist a strong, smart, beautiful woman like you. It'd be an honor to be friends with you-in fact-" he halted the eager flow of words that were spilling out of his mouth before he could spill his feelings.      He snatched his hand away and leaned back in his chair chastising himself. It was one thing to acknowledge and admit to himself that he had a crush on you. It was a whole different thing to push that crush on you. That was foolish and completely unfair to you with everything you had going on. He needed to reign these feelings in until a better time.       But then he looked across the table at you and you looked confused with a hint of hurt flashing in your eyes and he couldn't have that.       "I apologize. I was getting ahead of myself and rambling. Interesting fact about Steve Rogers, I'm not always the smoothest when it comes to certain things and amazing women can get me disoriented. And I got very disoriented and off track because I actually brought you in here to give me the information I need for the clearances for Eric but I got distracted because I love talking to you," he said.      You felt your heart flip as he gave you a shy smile. You couldn't believe that his handsome, strong man, was flustered by you. And he didn't even realize that he was smooth in his own way because your heart wouldn't stop fluttering.       "Anyways," he cleared his throat, "I have to ask you some questions about this situation before I can sign off on it. Emanuel Hernandez was on the preliminary list but not the final. What happened before and what happened in between?"      "Emanuel went through the training courses and qualification tests. I was there, he passed every course, scored top scores on all the tests just like I did. The first list was published and he started packing up but last minute he was told that they decided to cut his spot. When I looked into it I saw that they didn't cut his spot they gave it to someone else from Harvard ROTC.       "The replacement, as an ROTC, is a college student with little army experience compared to a real soldier and his student failed one of the tests early on. I was confused as to why he'd take Emanuel's spot until I saw in the financial records and saw that a sizable donation of tens of thousands of dollars to one of the generals accompanied the qualification of this ROTC boy into this program," You explained.       Steve sighed in exasperation. Apparently even the army wasn't free of corruption. He nodded.       "It can be quite dangerous for everyone involved if we have unqualified soldiers in certain positions. Thank you for alerting me and ensuring that we have the qualified soldier. I'll write that in the report and sign off on his transfer," he said.      "Thank you Steve. Thank you for hearing me out. Most people would have turned me in the moment they found me out," you said.      "It was my pleasure Y/N. Besides by hearing you out we've got an awesome soldier who can outhack Tony Stark and I've got a beautiful, amazing friend," He said.       "Well if you're serious about being friends and you really like talking to me, here you go," you said, sliding a piece of paper with your phone number across the table. Then you stood up to leave.       "Hope you know what to do with that," you teased him on your way to the door.      "We did have phones in the 40s." He replied with a laugh as you walked out.       He stared at the number, telling himself that he should just hold onto it until later. Texting you wouldn't help him control this crush. He wasn't going to text you, he tried to convince himself.  ***      You weren't even back to your room when your phone buzzed.
A/N:  Let me know what you think. I’ll post the next chapter tomorrow!

More That Matters pt 3
Fandom: Marvel
Pairing: Eventual Steve Rogers x Reader
Summary: You handle a training situation in an unconventional way which puts you in a tense situation with some high ranking people.
In spite of everything you were enjoying yourself. Turns out most people weren't sexist and for those who were it was so much fun proving them wrong. A few people had given you crap for being a woman but you didn't mind. And most of them respected your skills, especially once you started getting top scores in the challenges.
As you finished up with the bomb simulation you'd been worried about you were so relieved. You'd completed it unconventionally but you hadn't blown it. You'd been given a shot and you weren't blowing it.
"Y/N!" A voice called from behind you. You tried to smother the anger you felt every time he was in your presence and walked faster. Unfortunately he didn't get the hint and walked faster to keep up with you.
"Good job Y/N! Beautiful and smart! I would've thought of that myself eventually. Anyways you wanna cele-"
"No thanks Richard," you said cutting him off.
You tried not to be that rude but every time you'll liked at him you were reminded of the fact that he was there because he had taken that spot from your friend.
You and Emmanuel had worked for six months, going through the process and tests and trainings to qualify for this final round of selection but at the last minute, just a few weeks ago, this boy from Harvard ROTC who they hadn't seen at any of the other trainings or events had been put in and Emmanuel taken out and you didn't know why.
For a few moments you were anxious about it, then you remembered Steve and those worries dissolved. You smiled as you remembered the way he'd looked at you with so much warmth.
You'd been so nervous that you'd get caught but when he caught you, he didn't punish you, he smiled at you like you were a friend. And he opened up to you about himself. He'd transferred Emanuel even after he knew that you weren't an officer.
You trusted him. And you liked him. The way he smiled at you as though you were friends kind of made you want to be friends with him, find out more about the person he was behind Captain America. You'd noticed him watching you quite a few times, but you were surprised when you received a summons to his office. And you were nervous, not knowing what to expect.
   ****
The tense silence that had pervaded the room was broken as Steve jumped to his feet, clapping for Y/N.
Everyone had been silent and tense, watching as the candidates went through a simulation Tony had created.
In the simulation they'd been told that a building with an ambassador in it was about to blow up. Their mission was to save the diplomat. The person who did the job the best with the fastest time got the highest score. Each candidate had a headset and could call in and ask questions, just like if it were a real mission.
So far each candidate had called in and asked the same question: where's the ambassador? Then they hurried up to that floor. The team and recruiters watched as almost all of them ran from the building with the ambassador beside them and an explosion behind them.
Then Y/N went in. Steve leaned forward. Just like the others, you immediately switched on your com to ask a question. But you didn't ask about the ambassador.
      "Where's the bomb?" You asked.
Murmurs broke out in the room and Tony looked towards the team.
"Umm do we normally have people tell us where the bomb is? I didn't plan for that." He asked.
People shook their heads and Tony turned back towards the screen.
"Sorry I can't tell you that information but I like the way you're thinking," he said.
"Can you tell me what type of bomb it is?" She asked.
"Yeah. I can tell you that." He responded. He told her the type of bomb and she surprised everyone by pulling put her phone. They zoomed in and saw her googling something.
After a few moments she looked up and murmured to herself, "it emits gamma radiation so I can track that signature."
At the beginning everyone had been given a wide selection of stuff to choose from to help them on the mission. Most had chosen a variety of weapons but Y/N had chosen various devices. One of them, she pulled out now, and started using to track the bomb.
Once she located it she immediately started taking it apart. She was halfway there when she stalled.
Everyone was on the edge of their seats. Steve was nervous for you. If the bomb blew up on you then you had not only failed to save the ambassador but died yourself. You'd be out of the running.
You pulled out your phone and dialed face time.
"Emanuel I need you to talk me through how to unlock the electronic lockbox protecting the detonator on a Gamma-94 bomb." She said. She showed it to him and he began talking her through it.
Murmurs of approval broke out through the room and Steve smiled.
     "Teamwork!"
     "She called for help!"
     "How resourceful!"
She diffused the bomb with lots of time left then she went up, got the ambassador, escorted the, to the checkpoint and finished the mission without the building blowing up behind her. Steve wasn't the only one cheering as she came out.
This was the first time the whole team had seen all the candidates and she was by far the favorite.
"Excuse me!" One of the gray haired generals said quite loudly. He had been working with the camp and he was one of the old old fashioned ones who had started when there weren't women in the army and thought it should stay that way.
"She finished with the longest time so technically she failed and she's out." He said.
There was a backlash of protests, but the general tried to cut them off.
“Hey! You guys don’t know. I’ve been here at this training camp the whole time. She’s scrawny, she’s obstinate, she’s stubborn, and she shouldn’t have even been here in the first place,” he said. When the protests continued he turned towards Steve.
“You know what I mean Captain Rogers. You fought back in the good old days when the rightfully left the battlefield to the men! Ms. Y/L/N does not-“
Steve cut him off, “Actually from what I’ve seen Ms. Y/L/N is an exemplary-“
“Stop it! Both of you!” Natasha said, standing up.
“This concerns her future in the program, so you will not talk about her behind her back. Let her speak for herself,” she said.
“If you’re so adamant she be here, then you can get her and bring her here,” the general said.
Natasha glared at him, then pushed back her chair and walked out the door. The general’s jaw dropped in surprise. Thor laughed at his flustered state and clapped him on the shoulder passive aggressively.
“You talk of the olden days, but I’ve fought for centuries with female warriors who would crack your brittle bones in the blink of an eye,” Thor said.
Steve fist bumped him under the table. Then the door slammed opened and everyone straightened up as two powerful women walked into the room.
Natasha dropped back into her seat, but you stopped at the head of the table, defiance carving your stance as you awaited your “trial”. You stared down the general, knowing from his previous comments towards you that he was at least complicit in this. He wouldn’t meet your eyes.
               Natasha cleared her throat.
“General? You were saying something about Y/N?” she asked.
He shifted uncomfortably but finally stood up.
“I was just saying that her performance compared to the performance of the others showed that the other soldiers have better qualifications. Y/N didn’t follow her orders. She completely diverted from the mission, risking the lives of herself and everyone in the process. It was reckless and foolhardy and completely unbecoming of a soldier. A good soldier follows their orders,” he said.
“She saved-“ Steve started, but Natasha cut him off.
               “She can speak for herself.”
Your fists were clenched as you tried to quell your nerves at possibly being kicked out of the program and the anger that they would kick you out over that. When you had been summoned you were surprised to see it was Natasha Romanoff-and even more surprised when she told you what was going on…but the fact that she seemed to be on your side means that maybe some of the Avengers agreed with you.
“I did complete my mission. You said to save the ambassador. Not only did I save the ambassador, but I saved everyone in that building because all of their lives matter. Everyone’s lives are worth saving-not just the people with positions and money that others think are important. If you’re really going to penalize me for that then the Avengers isn’t what I thought it was and I wouldn’t want to be a part of it anyways,” you said.
Steve wanted to start clapping; Thor and Tony actually did start clapping.
               “Tell him kid!” Tony said.
“That’s how you denounce a wannabe warrior!” Thor said.
You looked around the room and saw smiles on the Avenger’s faces and you felt relief rush through you as you realized that this wasn’t coming from them-this was coming from only the general. The Avengers were still the people you thought they were.
As the relief faded, you realized that you were in a room full of your favorite heroes and they seemed to like you and suddenly you were excited. Then you looked at Steve, who’d been trying to catch your eye. For a moment, he let his stoic captain face fall and he gave you a wink and a warm smile. Then he turned back to the room and the general.
“General, Y/N’s absolutely right. We aren’t recruiting for a special army program and we don’t just want good soldiers. We want Avengers-people who have the heart, mind, and innovation to help everyone in need. Y/N went above and beyond in displaying exactly the characteristics that we’re looking for: compassion, intelligence, resourcefulness, crisis management, and teamwork,” Steve said.
               Tony backed him up.
“Yeah. She outsmarted my own system. The highest scorer in this evaluation was supposed to get 50 points-I want you to give her 100,” Tony said.
You gasped, unable to keep the smile from your face; meanwhile, the general was barely able to hide his grimace, but he added the points that would advance you to the #1 candidate.
A/N: Thank you so much for all the kind comments. I always love comments and reactions! I’m having so much fun writing his story and I hope you’re having fun reading it!

More That Matters Pt 2
Fandom: Marvel
Pairing: Eventual Steve Rogers x Reader
Summary: Steve sees you at the camp, abandons his objectivity, and assesses your odds.
When he showed up to the camp the next day his suspicions were confirmed. The room was packed full of big men with bulging muscles. Less than half of them were women but he felt admiration for those women who were holding there own. Then he spotted one woman in particular and felt a rush of warmth that washed away any hope of objectivity.
Y/N stood in the front. Physically, she should have been at odds with the people around her. She was one of few women and she was smaller and a whole lot less muscular than all of them, but her face was set with fierce determination. Her shoulders and head were hold high, defying everyone's expectations.
Everything about her posture screamed "I belong here too" and her smirk seemed to ask people to challenge her and have her show them, prove to them, what she had that gave her the ability to hold her own against all the men around her.
He watched throughout the day as people questioned her and talked down to her and how she defied them every step of they way, not letting them shake her. She was an underdog, just like he had been. And just like him, she didn't give a damn.
He felt a rush of warmth flood through him that was so unlike anything he'd felt in a long time that it took him by surprise. It had been so long since he'd not only admired a woman like that, but felt a connection to them.
Objectivity. He reminded himself. He turned around and left with a group of soldiers to go oversee another part of the camp away from where you were.
He could still be objective. You just reminded him so much of himself. Between the brave and clever persistence, the borrowing, and the defiant underdog thing you remind dead him of himself so much that he felt you guys had something in common...but he could explore that later. He was determined to be objective throughout this.
And it worked so well...until the following week.
A/N: Sorry for the cliffhanger, but the next part is almost finished and will hopefully make up for it.

More that Matters Pt 1- Steve Rogers x Reader
Fandom: Marvel
Pairing: Eventual Steve Rogers x Reader
Summary: A day before the training begins, Y/N and Steve meet for the first time under unusual circumstances.
The first time he met you should’ve been the last time, but Steve was too busy being amused and curious.
He’d been sitting in an office, looking over the finalized sheet of recruits from all different branches when he heard heels clicking down the hall. Whoever it was was walking hard and with determination but he heard falters as though they were having trouble walking in them.
     KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK.
     "Come in" Steve called wearily.
The door was thrown open and Steve felt his breath catch as a gorgeous woman walked through the door. She marched through the door, confidence resounding in every step she took. Her beautiful face was set with the fierce determination that burned in her eyes.
Steve was struck by that combination of beauty, confidence, and strength that always pulled on something in him.
That's why when she said "We need to talk Captain Rogers" his response was to stutter.
He shut his eyes, mentally reprimanding himself, then got himself together and nodded at her.
"What can I do for you Ms..."
He waited for her name. She didn't give it. That was strange. Most people in the army started by stating their name and rank. Especially if they were giving orders. Then he noticed that despite all the badges on her uniform it didn't fit her properly. The jacket was way to big on her. She'd belted the pants and rolled up the sleeves and she was wobbling on this heels because the uniform wasn't hers...but even as he noticed he didn't send her away. He wanted to hear what she had to say that was worth stealing a uniform to say.
"There's been a mistake in the list of recruits. Emanuel Hernandez isn't on the final list. He was on the initial list. He is an invaluable asset. He was the only one on that list from the Cybersecurity Branch. He has more technological skills and experience than anyone and we need that. Besides he passed his fitness test just as much as your big strong boys from infantry so I want him back on there." She said.
Steve started searching through the papers on his desk. He found the first draft listed recruits with the boy she was talking about. In the final draft the boy had been replaced by someone else. He compared the profiles and the boy the woman had mentioned was much more qualified. The girl in the stolen uniform was right.
"Looks like someone took his name off the list. It would've been a shame if a perfectly good soldier had missed out on a great opportunity just because someone thought he shouldn't have it." Steve said smiling at the girl.
      She nodded fervently.
"You know at one time I was that soldier that people didn't want to give a chance." He said.
Her eyebrows shot up in surprise.
"Thank you for sharing that with me Captain. I didn't realize that you were open about the time before you became Captain America." She replied.
"I'm usually not. But there were a few people who fought for me and I was hoping to get the name of the brave girl who went to such lengths to fight for someone else." He said.
A look of panic crossed her expression as the implication of his words told her he knew she was faking, but then she saw his warm friendly smile and she softened a but, realizing that he seemed to admire her for it.
"My name is Y/F/N Y/L/N." She said, clenching her hands anxiously. She tossed a few desperate glances at the sheet of recruits. Steve pushed the recruiting sheet away, wanting to put her at ease, letting her know it didn't matter.
"Nice to meet you Y/N. From now on you can call me Steve." He said.
He opened up his computer and added the soldier to the list of recruits. He turned his computer screen towards her to show her as he clicked to finalize the transfer and a look of relief passed across her face which she tried to hide.
"I've ordered the transfer. He won't be able to start with the rest of yo-I mean with the other recruits tomorrow because they'll have to process him out but he'll be there in a few days." Steve explained.
She resumed her officer act. She nodded curtly and said, "good. Thank you Captain that'll be all." Then she stood up, still nervous and started to leave.
      He laughed.
"I already told you to call me Steve, Y/N." He told her. She nodded awkwardly, trying to maintain the act she knew she'd been caught in. Her confidence was still there but now Steve could see her nerves in the way she tried to hurry out.
"Headed to return the stolen uniform?" He asked her with a grin on her face.
"Borrowed," she retorted as she slid out the door.
He broke into laughter as he remembered all the things he had borrowed under that same logic.
He hadn't stopped smiling even hours after she'd left. Every time he thought of her he grinned and felt a rush of warmth. He couldn't help it. She cared about fairness. He didn't know who took that soldiers name off that list or why but she'd stood up for him. And she'd been brave and clever with it.
When he looked at his list he was unsurprised to find her name on it and even less surprised to see what branch she was from: Intelligence. He laughed again, realizing that that's exactly how he'd expect someone in intelligence to handle a situation like that. Clever, covert. Those skills and that mindset would be an asset for the Avengers. He looked for the other recruits from intelligence but she was the only one.
He looked at the list again and noticed that all of the recruits were from branches that fought on the front lines. The ones who fought in hand to hand combat in infantry or blew things up in artillery. As he looked at the profiles he realized that they had valued brawn over brains in their selection. All of them were from front line fighting branches except for Y/N from Intelligence and Hernandez from Cybersecurity.
In terms of being a soldier there was more that mattered than brawn.
A/N: Please leave comments and tell me what you think. I’ll post the next chapter tomorrow!

More That Matters Prologue - Steve Rogers x Reader
Fandom: Marvel
Pairing: Eventual Steve Rogers x Reader
Summary: Tired of the treachery and looking for new members, Steve decides to go back to his roots and recruit from an army trainig course similar to the one he went through to be selected for the Super Soldier Serum. He sets out to be objective but then he meets Y/N, one of the recruits. As she struggles through the course to qualify as an avenger, he’s struggling to keep his growing admiration and feelings for her under control.
Steve felt paranoia bubbling up in him as he read from his list of all the rats he’d caught this month.
As he looked up at Bucky he felt the emotions from their previous rantings and conversations barell into him and he slammed the report down on the table with a frustrated sigh right in the middle of his presentation. The other Avengers looked at him in confusion. It was the monthly report time and Steve was reporting success.
"What's wrong Cap? You've caught 8 rats in the organization this month. That's great!" Tony said.
"No it's not Tony. That's the problem." Steve replied.
     "That we caught them?"
"That they're there!" Steve replied. He sat down with another frustrated sigh, running his hands through his hair as he though for the hundredth time that month how much he missed the army.
There had been a whole lot of problems but never character problems. "We won't lie cheat steal or tolerate those who do". That was their honor code. That's how he'd gotten teams like the Howling Commandos and partners like Bucky. They valued honor above strength and that's how he even got to be Captain America. They valued special skills but they didn't look at honor and they had traitors left and right.
For weeks he'd ranted about it to Bucky and told Bucky about his idea and now, as if reading his mind, Bucky smiled at him and encouragingly and nodded his head. Steve took a deep breath and stood up.
"We need to change. We don't want a repeat of SHIELD, but when we recruit we look at only skills not honor. I know we need a few more members on the team so I'd like to head my own recruiting initiative." Steve said.
"Where do you want to recruit from? We've tried before and it didn't really work out too well. We tried recruiting from Harvard, MIT, FBI, Special Ops. It's hard to even set up a program to test them," Rhodey explained.
"And they need certain skills that aren't easy to come by. Where would they even come from? Where would we even start?" Natasha said.
"Same place Bucky and I started: the army. I'll get together the top soldiers from different branches and put them through a similar training course as I had to go through to be selected for the super soldier serum." Steve explained.
The room broke into whispers and hums of approval. It was put to a vote and Bucky grinned at him and mouthed "I told you so" as every hand in the room went up.
"Alright Cap. Get us a new avenger. I'll get you the resources you need and start setting up some training courses if you'll call your Army people and get us some recruits. Oh, and Cap, we've seen how attached you can get to your army buddies but for this, you need to stay objective until they're on the team. Capische?" Tony said.
Steven snorted and rolled his eyes. That would be the least of his problems. Or as he thought. But that was before he met Y/F/N Y/L/N.

Avenging Angel- Pietro Maximoff x Reader
Fandom: Marvel
Pairing: Pietro Maximoff x Reader (Little angsty at the beginning, very fluffy at the end)
Summary: During the Battle of Sokovia things don’t happen the way Pietro expected them to and he ends up meeting Y/N, a girl whom he can’t quite tell is angel or human until he ends up in New York.
Pietro was confused about getting shot. First of all because he never thought it would happen when he was faster than any bullet. Second of all because usually when you get shot you're supposed to die. He knew that when he jumped in front of that bullet he was supposed to die, but that's when it got confusing.
He was running, desperation pumping in his blood as he raced the bullet. Desperate to stop it he ran in front of it. Then there was an explosion of pain and everything became blurry. He tried to smile and deliver his clever retort to Clint then Clint grabbed him and started yelling something to someone. It sounded like he might have been saying a name.
That's when the Angel showed up but she wasn't there to take him apparently. She was so beautiful and she knelt down next to him and touched him and he felt like light flooded his body, the pain faded and he began to feel sleepy.
Something came up behind the girl and he tried to warn her but nothing came out and it turns out it was unnecessary. She perked up as though she sensed it then yanked at a gold bracelet winding up her arm. It uncoiled into a whip, cracking with electricity which she expertly flicked over her shoulder.
She turned to Clint and Pietro was lifted into his arms and taken into the shelter of an empty house. She turned her attention back to him, her fingers gentle and insistent as she touched the place where his wound had once been.
Once she affirmed that he was healed she stood up, coiling her whip and dozens of tendrils of electricity gathered around her then she marched into battle, using the whip to direct bolts of electricity destroying waves of enemies in her path. His gaze was stuck to her through the window. She was so fierce and so beautiful that he wished his avenging angel was real. Then he felt the rapidly healing bullet wound and realized she probably was.
***
"Aw you sad to be losing your title new kid?" Peter asked, poking you in the side. You laughed, remembering all the jokes there were when you took the title from him. Peter had been the newest avenger until you showed up. And now there would be not one but two newbies coming. And you had no idea what to expect.
"I wasn't even thinking about that. I don't care that I'm not the new kid I just don't know what the new kids are like. I keep hearing conflicting information. I mean they were working for Hydra, they hate Tony, I thought that the ambushed the team, but then all of a sudden Tony sends a message that he's bringing them back to be part of the team. I just want to know what happened in between but you know how Tony is." You said.
You didn't want to acknowledge how you had already crossed those lines.
"Weren't you at the battle of sokovia? Healing people and shocking people and stuff?" Peter asked.
"You already know the answer Peter," you said, but you didn't mention that you had accidentally healed someone you'd thought was on the wrong side and you didn't know why.
"You know what. These twins volunteered for experiments they thought would help them save their country just like Steve did. There's no fault in that and Steve is a good person so they can be too. I don't care about all this anti-Sokovian crap that shield says. Now let's figure out how to bake apple pies to give our new teammates a proper welcome."
 *****
Pietro thought that he couldn't be more nervous when he stepped off the plane. He was in a new country surrounded by new people. He gripped his sister's hand for support and she smiled at him encouragingly.
Clint smiled at him and told him "Welcome to your new home". He didn't think he'd have a home after his had been destroyed and the prospect made him nervous.
Then he stepped off the plane, him and his sister standing awkwardly amongst the other avengers being greeted warmly by their families. No one was there to greet them-or so he thought, until a boy and a girl broke through the crowd, coming towards them with a pie and open arms.
His nerves exploded alongside his shock as he recognized her. The girl. It was his avenging angel, the girl he healed him. She was real and she was here and she had come when no one else had and she didn't even know him yet.
"Hi! I'm Y/N and this is my friend Peter. Welcome to the Avengers and welcome to the US," she said with a bright smile.
Pietro felt his heart race as that warm smile was turned towards him.
Peter shook Pietro's hand and hugged his sister.
"Let's show you to your rooms so that we can sit down and eat this super American apple pie and get to know you!" Peter said.
The twins smiled and followed you and Peter up the elevator.
****
"Thank you for helping us feel at home" Wanda said as you helped them put their stuff in their rooms. She had starting cutting the pie with a small smile on her face.
"I was scared no one would be open to us because of the whole...Hydra and Ultrpn thing," she said.
"Nope! Y/N wanted to make sure that y'all knew that not everyone is like that. We both did. But it was her idea to bake the welcome pie as proof that we're cool with you guys." Peter said.
Wanda took a bite and smiled. "We're cool with you guys and with this delicious pie," she said.
Hours later, the four of you were laying on one the big bed in the spare room in Pietro and Wanda’s suite. Peter was scrolling through Netflix introducing the twins to different shows and series to watch. Your limbs were all tangled together in comfort and familiarity and you guys hadn’t even noticed how much time had passed until Tony burst into the room looking for Peter.
“There you are kid! I was so worried. I couldn’t find you anywhere in the tower and I thought you went home so I called your Aunt but then you weren’t home and she got really mad and we were both worried. Glad you’re here,” Tony said.
               He waved at everyone else.
“Hey new kids! Welcome to the Avengers!” Tony said. Pietro and Wanda smiled and waved at him. Peter slid off the bed.
“I better go talk to my Aunt. See you guys later!” he said, leaving with Tony.
You turned towards them and got up as well.
“I didn’t realize how late it was. I think I’m gonna go too. I’ve got to get up early for training,” you said.
“Let me walk you to your room!” Pietro said, jumping up eagerly.
“Thanks, but it’s just through the tower. It’s pretty saf-“ you stopped when you saw Wanda giving you a look. Maybe there was more to Pietro’s request than just pure chivalry.
You took Pietro’s outstretched arm and let him walk with you.
“I never got the chance to thank you.” He said.
“Pietro, I just do my job. You don’t have to thank me,” you replied.
“Yes I do. In Sokovia, you didn’t know whether or not I was on your side, but you saved my life anyways. I’ve heard the news, I’ve heard what a lot of people here in America think about Sokovians and what they think about us, but you went to great lengths to make me feel at home so I want to thank you for that too.”
At this point you couldn’t keep yourself from hugging him. You wrapped your arms around him, his scent flooding your nose and he held you back even tighter.
Pietro smiled as he pulled away.
“At first I was so in awe of you I thought you were an angel. Now, I’m glad that you’re real because I’m still in awe of you and I would really like to get closer to you,” he said.
“I would like that as well,” you replied.
“Can I take you out tomorrow?” he asked you. You smiled, heart flipping, at his handsome face looking shy for once.
               “Of course,” you replied.
He smiled and hugged you before you went to your room. Then he jumped up and pumped his fist, happy and excited to see what hit would be like to have an avenging angel as a girlfriend.
A/N: So my original idea for this was angst and I mostly write romantic angst, but this one came out kind of fluffy. I might turn this into a series or add more. Let me know if you want a part 2 or if you want me to turn this into a series (which may have a bit of drama and angst).
Please let me know what you think!

Consolation Prize 4
Fandom: Harry Potter/Fantastic Beasts
Pairing: Newt Scamander x Reader, Theseus Scamander x Reader
A/N: Thank you so much for all of the freat feedbacks and kind comments and enthusiasm. You guys make this story even more fun to write. Sorry for the long wait.
P.S I didn’t want to be completely unfair to Newt so this chapter is more Newt centric.
You woke up the following morning with a pounding headache. Your head felt like it was stuffed with cotton, your lungs lined with fluid, and your limbs weighed down with lead. You tried to sit up and your body rebelled against you, everything hurt, and Gravity was tugging you back into your bed.
As muddled thoughts passed through your brain you laughed for a moment until it hurt too much. Theseus had been right. You'd stormed out of Newt's home and left your coat and Theseus had teased that shopping in the snow without a coat you might catch the flu, but you had still adamantly refused when he offered you his coat. Turns out he had been right.
The thought of work also passed through your mind, but once again you were overcome by pain and exhaustion. You contemplated it for a few moments then decided that instead of working through sickness just to go to work, you let sleep claim you and your warm memories of a hazel curly haired boy  faded into your dreams.
*****
Newt couldn't shake the feelings from last night. When you had walked away from him, the overwhelming feeling of emptiness and fear...he realized that if you walked away for good he would be lost. When Leta had walked away he'd been hurt, but the mere thought of you walking away seemed ten times worst.
He'd tried to convince himself everything was ok, but it wasn't. He knew it wasn't. He knew that he'd hurt you and he hated himself for it and he needed to fix it.
He was pacing in front of the door thinking about that when he spotted your coat. He seized the excuse to see you then he grabbed the coat and hurried to the ministry with a little bit of a plan and a lot of emotions.
*****
He knocked on the door to your office, nervously reciting what he was going to say, trying to make it sound romantic.
He knocked again and rearranged the words in his head. They didn't quite capture his feelings for you. Why was this so hard for him? And why weren't you answering?
He knocked again and this time, when he received no answer, he pushed open the door and saw that the office was black. He looked around, surprised by how much had changed. There were two chairs-why two chairs, you worked by yourself-two mugs-who was drinking in here with you often enough that there were cups-and his heart skipped a beat when he saw the last big change. There was a bouquet of flowers with a note sticking out.
Newt turned on his heel and slammed the door to the office, suddenly feeling horrible and uncomfortable and...another feeling he couldn't quite put his finger on. It was clear you weren't in your office though. He hurried away form the office wrapped up in thoughts of who was in your office so much and who sent you flowers that he didn't notice his brother until he slammed into him.
"Newt!" Theseus cried with a smile, wrapping him in a tight hug.
He started to embrace his brother back, but then he remembered what he'd been told just last week, what his brother had done, and he slid out of the hug and pushed Theseus away.
"Hello Theseus," Newt said cooly. Theseus stepped back, looking slightly hurt and confused.
"What brings you here Newt?" Theseus asked, ushering him to a table in the nearby dining hall.
"I came to visit," Newt said.
"Should I dare to hope you were coming to visit me? It's been so long little brother," Theseus said with a teasing grin, but just below the surface, the emotion was real.
Newt picked up on that and the memories and love for his brother began pushing against the wall he'd tried to build up, in spite of what she'd told him. Why was he so bad at holding grudges.
"I have missed you, just the slightest bit. Nobody else gives as many annoying hugs," Newt said quietly. Theseus heard him and smiled and just like that a tentative truce began forming.
    Click, click click.
"Theseus Scamander," a voice purred as a long pink fingernail began tracing his shoulder.
A woman with thick makeup and thin clothes approached the table. She flipped her hair and leaned towards Theseus, talking in a low, sultry voice, her fingers lightly tracing up and down his arms as she asked seemingly innocent questions about how he was and his plans for the holidays.
Theseus was stiff with discomfort, leaning away from her and answering her questions with short, curt answers, trying to get her leave as quickly as possible.
When she left a few moments later Theseus turned eagerly to his brother, but his expression was once again closed and cold.
"I see that you still have women throwing themselves at you," Newt said.
"They're not my type. I prefer women who are classy and intelligent and actually care about me for me. A lot of those women don't care about me as a person, just my name and reputation." Theseus said.
"What I don't understand is why, if you have so many women that want you-" Newt said.
"They don't want me they want a Scamander-" Theseus interrupted.
"Why did you have to take the one that I loved-" Newt said.
"Newt, what are you talking about?"
"Leta! Im talking about Leta. I've been talking to her again after you ruined our relationship and she told me all about what you did." He said.
    Theseus threw his hands up.
"Leta! This is about Leta? Newt, Leta is one of the most deceptive....whatever she told you is not true. Newt, Leta is confused and she's distraught but you can't let her manipulate you. She's been rejected by her own fa,ily and she wants to fit into yours because you're good and you're kind. And I know you want to help her and I understand, I did too, but Newt, you can never be sure if she loves you for you. And you deserve someone who will love you for you." Theseus said.
Newt didn't know what to say. He felt all of his walls crumble even as the confusion grew, but he looked into Theseus's eyes, they were genuine and protective. His older brother was trying to protect him. And a part of him knew deep down that Theseus was right...but he couldn't give up on the beautiful illusion that she did love him, that she always had, that she still did...but then his mind strayed to you and he remembered why he was at the ministry in the first place.
"Thank you, Theseus. I'll keep that in mind. I need to find my friend, make sure she's ok, but...it was nice seeing you." Newt said as he got up.
"It was nice seeing you as well brother. I look forward to spending the holidays with you. I'm going to try to find my partner for this project. She's been missing all day and I'm worried about her.” Theseus replied and hurried off in search of the only girl at the Ministry he truly wanted to see.
The next time you woke up, the smell of your favorite breakfast flooded the apartment and there was the whisper of a gentle touch stroking your face. Through the fog of sleep you were sure that you were hallucinating or still dreaming, but then you felt something soft and cushiony curling up against you and it was warm and thumped as though it had a heart.
“Stop that. You’ll wake her up.”
               Sqeuak squeak.
“I know you’re worried but she’ll be fine.” He whispered.
               You couldn’t imagine that.
Your eyes snapped open and Newt jumped away from you.
“I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to wake you. Well, it wasn’t me, I think it was Toby,” he said pointing to the creature curled up against you.
“He was worried about you. I am too. Really worried. That’s why I’m here. Because I was worried, not because I was trying to scare you or wake you or-“
“Newt!” you exclaimed, throwing your arms around him.
“It’s wonderful to see you. What are you doing here?” you asked him.
“I was, um, looking for you to return your coat. You left it at my house. I went by the ministry but you weren’t there so I was worried, and I came here but you didn’t answer the door so I was worried and used my key. Then I saw you were sick and wanted to help and I was just checking on you,” he rambled, cheeks red. He wouldn’t look at you.
“Thank you, Newt. And stop worrying so much. I’m touched that you cared enough to be worried. Besides, I’ve always wanted you in my bed,” you said with a smirk.
Newt’s face flushed redder and he jerked around towards you with wide eyes.
“What? Really? No. You’re joking. Well, I didn’t mean to seem eager because although being in your bed would be quite enjoyable I would never dream of overstep….” Newt trailed off as he watched your face fade from joking to inquisitive.
“Let me get you your breakfast,” he said, jumping up from the bed and running to the kitchen.
You tried to protest, but before you could properly put up a fight he was back with a tray of your favorite food and a steaming bowl of broth. He slid the tray onto your lap.
“There’s protein and vitamins which should help, but the broth has some healing potion in it that I made that will really help,” he said, folding blankets around you to keep you comfortable. Your heart warmed at how caring he was.
“Thank you for breakfast Newt, but don’t you have work and a boss who would be mad at you for being late?” you said.
Newt smiled and sat down on your bed across from you.
“I work for myself and my boss is myself and my boss completely understands that there are some things more important than work, like the ones you love, so he gave me the day off to take care of my favorite girl,” he said.
“Newt did you just say what I think you said?” you asked him.
He smiled at you and took your tray.
“Get some rest, love. I’ll be here when you wake up,” he said.
You couldn’t tell if the sickness was making you hallucinate or if it that’s what was sending your emotions spiking through the roof, but you couldn’t believe what you were hearing or what it was making you feel. His gentle, caring nature was one of the reasons your feelings for him had grown and even though you thought you were done, his caring nature turned towards you was bringing those feelings rushing back.
You closed your eyes and let sleep drag you away from the emotional onslaught. You were awoken later by a familiar sound. You were already starting to feel better because of the potion. You jumped out of bed towards the fireplace where a floo message was waiting. You accepted it and Theseus’s face spun into the flames.
You were so much more than a friend, Newt realized. From the way he was worried about you and wanted to care for you, as though the world wasn’t right if his girl wasn’t-he didn’t know when he started thinking of you as his girl but he couldn’t deny he wanted it to be true.
When he’d seen you, so beautiful and peaceful in your sleep and wondered what it would be like to see you like that every morning, when you’d joked about wanting him in your bed and he flushed remembering all the times he’d imagined and longed for you in his, and when he’d sat with you and almost said what he wanted to say and saw your face light up and it made him brave enough to maybe tell you how he feels.
He stood up abruptly from the couch and went to your room to check on you again, but stopped when he heard another voice coming from in your room. He couldn’t make out the voice-though it sounded familiar-but he could make out the words.
“I’m glad you called, but I wish you would’ve earned me. I look terrible,” Newt heard you say.
“Never. That’s impossible darling. Because your beauty, is not the kind of beauty that comes from superficial details like makeup and clothes and jewelry. Your beauty cannot be contained to your skin. It radiates from you in your beautiful smile and your bright eyes and everything about you, so you are always beautiful,” the other voice said.
Newt felt his gut twist unpleasantly. He hadn’t hated many people, but he wanted to hate whoever it was talking to you-his girl like that-but more than that, he hated that that guy could say all the things he always wanted to say so perfectly. He hated that this guy was charming enough to flirt with you and articulate your beauty so perfectly when he would ramble and stammer over his words. He tried to convince himself that he wasn’t jealous and sort out his emotions, but he couldn’t deny that he was relieved when you cut off the call.
He knocked on your door and came in when invited. You were so beautiful, he just wanted to pull you into his arms, but he kept his distance, realizing that you might not be his.
“Y/N do you need anything? Anything. Not just for this, but anything you need, whatever you want, I’ll do it for you, I’ll give it to you,” he said, his way of expressing how he felt about you because he was too scared to find the right words. You just looked at him, confused, and he could tell you didn’t get what he meant, but then you smiled and he fell even more.

Consolation Prize 3
Fandom: Harry Potter/Fantastic Beasts
A/N: After seeing Fantastic Beasts COG I now love both of the adorable Scamander brothers, so here’s the beginning of a love triangle imagine.
Pairing: Newt Scamander x Reader, Theseus Scamander x Reader
The holidays were brightened even more by the whirlwind of emotions rushing through your veins.
At work you started seeing Theseus every day. Each morning he'd come into your office with a stack of work from your project and two cups of coffee then the two of you would work together throughout the day. He was always kind and funny and he made the day go by quicker.
Then you'd go home to Newt with his awkward flirting and soft smiles and kindness and distance, but even the moments of distance couldn't deter your excitement over spending the holidays with him.
You were reminded of that that night as you sat with him later that night. You were sitting on his couch with him, laying across his lap as he ran his fingers through your hair.
"Come oooon Newt," you whined playfully, tugging on his arm.
"That's not the true spirit of the holidays." He replied.
"Getting people gifts that they like is not the true spirit of the holidays?" You asked.
"Gifts are supposed to be surprises." He responded.
"Pleasant surprises that make people really happy. You won't tell me what you want but I know you well enough that I can guess. Now if you tell me a bit about your family then I can guess what they want as well," you said.
"I don't want anything for Christmas love." He said.
"I think I've got what I want for Christmas. I just want you," you said with smiling at your cheesy admission, but the there was a layer of truth beneath it.
Newt flushed red and looked at you in shock. You realized that this was the first time you'd revealed your feelings for him outright, in such a straightforward manner.
You jerked away, a flash of shock as you realized your mistake and why you made it. Theseus always flirted with you at work-bold, meaningless flirting with nothing underneath it. But with Newt, the two of you had always skirted around flirting-just shy, awkward admissions loaded with so much beneath the surface but now you'd exposed it, exposed yourself, and your feelings.
Underneath the shock though, you felt anticipation. You looked up at Newt expectantly, waiting for him to say it back, say something back, finally tell him that he loved you, that he felt it too.
Newt's eyes bounced from your face to the picture on his desk and your heart sank even before he opened his mouth.
"I want love for Christmas. The right love for me," he said.
Your heart sunk lower as you read between the lines. He wasn't sure.
You sat up and moved away from Newt. His hand fell away from you and he reached for you again, but you stood from the couch and ,over towards the door.
"Y/N, wait-" he said, his face confused as you grabbed your coat.
    "Y/N what's wrong?" He said.
You shook your head, unable to meet is eyes as you tried to wipe the disappointment and frustration from your face.
    "Y/N, I'm sorry. I'm not very good at this and-and I don't quite know-I'm not quite sur-"
You sighed and shook your head.
"That's the problem Newt," you whispered.
He caressed your face in a manner you wished you could say was loving.
"Y/N, you are my best friend and I care about you so much..." He said, but you aren't sure about the rest, you heard the unspoken words of the tense moment and decided to break it.
"Well then let me do my duties as best friend and get gifts. That's what best friends do," you said with a feigned smile. You pulled away from him.
"You know what else best friends do? Best friends, spend time with their friends every evening, come over for dinner." Newt said.
You laughed, but you heard the undertone of fear in the statement. He didn't want you to leave again.
"Ok Newt. I'll be over for dinner tomorrow." You said.
"And best friends also go on trips with their best friends over the holidays to keep them company because if they didn't then the other would really miss them." He said.
     You smiled.
"Well since my best friend duties call for it I'll see you on Friday after work so we can head to the country, but for now, I need to get gifts." You said, then you left before Newt could protest.
He reached for you, but you brushed his hand off. He called your name, but you pretended you didn't hear him and slammed the door.
He slammed his hands against the door and bumped his head against it, digging his fingers into the wood as if he could reach through it and grab you and pull you back into his arms.
He opened the door but you were gone. He stepped out, tracing your footsteps in the snow until they disappeared where you'd disapparated. He plopped down in the snow and buried his face in his hands, hoping that the cold washing over him would clear his mind, would put out the warmth in his chest and the hot, burning longing for you which was causing so many problems.
If only he could freeze out his desire for you or his desire for her then the problems would be solved. Every time Leta showed up she would stoke the embers of the flames of desire he'd thought was dead, renewing the remnants of those feelings from long ago and making him think that it would be a betrayal to his younger self and his old love to abandon it, but when he was with you, the attraction was magnetic. He was a moth to your flame, basking in your warmth, captivated by your beauty. He loved every second he was with you and he felt something missing every time you were away, but in his confusion you could draw away from him.
He ran his hands through the snow near your footprints, as the thought of you drawing away from him washed over him. He remembered when you'd left before and how he'd felt and he realized how terrible it would be if you left for good...but then he remembered that you came back, he remembered what you'd just said. You cared about him, which meant that he could always pull you back. Then he felt terrible for thinking that.
Suddenly an owl flew into the yard, towards the mailbox and he leapt up, eager to see if it was a letter from Leta.
***
    Pop.
You regretted going to Diagon Alley the minute you landed there.
You opened your eyes and were assaulted by joy and happiness and thousands of bright, twinkling lights, that were the opposite of what you were feeling inside.
Your eyes darted around, looking for an escape and finally you found it.
You hurried out of the cold into the warm coffee shop, with a fire roaring in a fire place surrounded by squashy chairs and pillows. You bought a cup of hot chocolate and loaded it with marshmallows and sunk into a couch by the fire and tried to drown your disappointment in chocolate and cream.
You were so lost in your thoughts that you didn't see the familiar face enter the shop and brighten when he saw you. You didn't notice until he sat down next to you and offered you a fresh mug filled with marshmallows and whipped cream.
"Can I buy you a drink?" Theseus asked, offering you the cup of hot chocolate.
You looked up in surprise, delight flooding through you at the unexpected sight of him.
"Theseus! What are you doing here?" You asked him.
"I was Christmas shopping and came in for a warm drink when I saw the most beautiful girl without her beautiful smile." He said.
You ducked your head and scooted away. You were used to his bold, Gryffindor demeanor, which came with his bold, chivalrous, meaningless, flirting, but tonight, compared to Newt’s feeble hesitation it was glaring and blatant and confusing.
“Y/N? What’s wrong?” Theseus asked. His voice was layered with concern.
“Nothing…I’m just….I don’t-“ you stammered, trying to find an explanation, but you couldn’t figure out how to put it into words. You couldn’t blame Newt for not feeling the same way and he hadn’t fully rejected you, but it still felt like rejection, and it hurt like hell to love someone more than they love you, to be an option for the only person you wanted. You were trapped in love and trapped in loneliness and it made no sense so you didn’t know what to say.
Suddenly, Theseus pulled you into his arms and settled into the couch. A sense of comfort washed over you in waves, just like the heat from the hearth. Wrapped in his strong arms, leaning against his chest, his hand comfortingly, caringly down your back, surrounded by the smell of him, finally, you didn’t feel so lonely, you didn’t feel rejected or unloved.
You sat there like that for several moments, hearts beating together as you basked in his warmth and comfort until he broke the silence.
“Is this helping? Is this what you need?” he murmured into your ear.
“Yes. This is exactly what I needed. Thank you, Theseus,” you said, pulling away reluctantly.
“Anytime. Whenever you need Y/N,” he whispered, caressing your face lightly with the tip of his finger.
For a few moments the two of you were suspended in silence, teetering towards something.
               CRASH! MEOW!
You broke apart with a jump, turning to the commotion. A ginger cat was leaping from table to table, chasing a frog, and knocking over coffee cups in its wake.
You laughed at the scene, the noise tearing you from the reverie of your moment with Theseus. Your face was still hovering inches from his.
               “Stupefy!”
A bolt of orange light shot between the you and Theseus, aimed toward the cat. You leapt away and rolled off the couch tucking into a ball.
“Watch it!” you heard Theseus say.
               “Sorry.”
You looked up and saw him chuckling.
“Are you ok?” he asked you, laughing as he pulled you back up onto the couch.
“I’m fine. Thank you,” you said.
“Why don’t we drink our drinks before they’re knocked on the floor?” Theseus said, picking up his drink and offering you the one he’d bought for you. You smiled and took the drink.
“So why were you in Diagon Alley tonight?” he asked you.
“I was planning on doing some Christmas shopping. I’m going to my best friend’s house for the holidays and I want to bring gifts-for his mother, father, and brother- but I don’t know what they like, and he won’t tell me so I was going to wander around until I found something” you said.
“Well, I was Christmas shopping as well for my mother, father, and brother, so how about we wander together and coordinate the gifts. How different can mothers and fathers and brothers be? Whatever my mother will like maybe your friends mother will too. It’s not much but it something,” he said with a shrug.
               You couldn’t help but smile.
The night brightened as you spent it with Theseus, wandering through the snowy streets with him. Suddenly, your mood lifted to match the spirits of the season.
