Brown Ajah Fourth Age

It is said that every sister of the Brown Ajah seeks to leave a lasting change. That despite them being perceived as distracted by looking at the past, that the true purpose of the Brown Ajah is gather the knowledge they can and cast it as a torch to a brighter future. In the dawn of the Fourth Age, that future is said to have come. Today the Brown, long considered the most distracted or passive Ajah, stands proudly in its reinvigorated role; Though action taken to ensure more knowledge is preserved for future generations than what was lost in previous turnings of the Ages, today the Brown plays its part in ensuring this new Age reaps the benefits of enlightenment.

Education

The Browns have gone throughout the Dragon Peace nations to formalize mass Education and ensure with keepers of the Dragon's Peace that Education is fair and is as unbiased as possible. Where local Lords or officials fall short, the Brown Ajah and officials of the Dragon's Peace administrative bodies establish schoolhouses as needed. These schools are often led by traditional educators of their communities, yet the Brown Ajah has begun working with the Academies to establish new standards for education; Schools and classes specifically for the training of teachers are being used to ensure that there are plenty of skilled educators available for these districts.

These classes have been studying the art of teaching and education to refine lessons and styles. The Brown Ajah not only takes up advisory roles in both these and smaller local boards, they are active participants in their conduct. The Brown ajah is committed to ensuring factual and quality education is available to all.

Though the Brown owns nearly as many printing presses as the White and Ivory, their presses are primarily used for the mass production of education material, as well as copying historical literature. Most is made available at low price or even free.

The intimate relationship between schools and the Browns have meant that they are the Ajah most common people are both most familiar with and most likely to view positively. This is to the chagrin to the other Ajahs and local authorities who attempt to push out the Browns as they see them as infiltrators who are attempting to subvert them by controlling the commoners through indoctrination. More than a few times have distracted Browns needed support from Aiel peacekeepers to avoid dangerous incidents.

Modern Study and Libraries

To promote further advancements in society and knowledge, the Brown Ajah has attempted to work with the Academies founded by the Dragon Reborn and the Dragon Peace. As these organizations nearly to a number prize their independence from other institutions, however, the Brown and Aes Sedai in general have only been able to establish small collaborative efforts. The Brown Ajah has taken action to not only unite and share the research done by all the disparate Academies and the Tower, but to lay the foundations for a formalized method of studying and showcasing notes to further other related projects; The various Research Journals of the Brown Ajah have inspired the collection of research papers for publication and preservation so that they may be referenced in future studies. All Research published is useful, even experiments reported to have failed provided they have given proper information on their failures, so that others can learn from their mistakes. While most Academies have also started their own Journals of sciences, mathematics, literature and philosophy, and other topics, the Brown Journals maintain high standards and are the most recognized. An entire new subsection of newly raised Brown Ajah sisters have begun dedicating themselves to conducting tests based on research papers to either corroborate their findings or issue rebuttals for incorrect findings; A developing academic discourse is growing amongst the Journals and the many who dedicate themselves to testing findings in such ways to ensure the correctness of findings and integrity of the journals and records.

The Brown Ajah has of course created vast libraries in nearly ever major city, most public, with copies of historical books and recent publications, but it has also taken up the responsibility to expand the library sciences and connect libraries together. Using Traveling, stockpiles and extensive record keeping, the Brown have made it possible to not only request a book from one library to another library nearly across the continent, but in some places it is possible to do so through the mail service. The ease and rapid speed of knowledge is limited only by the practical realities of transportation by Traveling and whether it is deemed appropriate by officials to provide the requested texts.

Ter'angreal

Many Browns conduct research of their own across a wide range of subjects. In fact, many Browns, both newly raised to standing sisters to even the retired have attempted to join one of the Academies to study; Those who have succeeded have made remarkable discoveries and aided in other academy member's own research.

Within the Tower, though, many turn to studying the ter'angreal. Both existing objects are studied under new safety procedures, and the art of creating wholly new angreal are explored. It is risky, and even those gifted with the rare Talent of Reading objects of the Power. The Hall has debated at length over these practices and has issued orders to halt study temporarily multiple times, but it has not been without reward. Ter'angreal containing texts from the Age of Legends themselves have been opened, forever expanding understanding of the time before the breaking; Study into objects designed to allow non-channelers to operate them have not been successful in recreating such effect, but have furthered understanding of tying off Weaves; And recreations of existing Ter'angreal and entirely new objects have been made.

Ter'angreal to aid in Traveling and Skimming are available to sisters and Accepted who require them. Wells to store Power within are also being created though most still only store small amounts. Farweaving Ter'angreal are pairs or sets of objects, a sender and receiver or receivers, that a channeler can Weave through at extended distances. The Wirespeak Ter'angreal has been laid throughout portions of the Tower, allowing sisters to communicate from opposite ends of the Tower, though they are exhausting to use and extremely expensive in their current incarnation. Stacker Boxes store far more items within them than a box of their size should be able to. There has even been progress creating objects to prevent a female channeler from being controlled by an a'dam, though these prevent all forms of linking and hinder Warder bonds as well. Though most Ter'angreal created and recreated are imperfect and their shapes vary wildly even amonst ones that do the same thing, Ter'angreal specialists believe that one day they will be able to create standards with their knowledge; The Hall permitting their studies, of course.

The Brown candidate for Amyrlin

Zemaille Amassa Sedai is an unusual candidate and sister for one major reason; She was one of the Atha'an Miere Windfinders sent to the Tower to protect the secret of Windfinders from Aes Sedai. Now that all know that Windfinders channel, and the Tower and Windfinders have agreements, she and her fellow Atha'an Miere sisters have found themselves Freed of their greatest secrets. Some have decided to try and return to the sea, but Zemaille decided different; Formerly seen as shy, she now openly wears her heritage and has be vital in the new directions that the Brown Ajah has taken. Her supporters publicly state her becoming Amyrlin would strengthen ties with the Atha'an Miere Empire against the Seanchan and expand the Tower's influence across the seas; Secretly, her most high ranking supporters speak of the wisdom electing an Amyrlin who is already familiar with the thirteenth Depository and countless secrets of the Tower. Others fear such ties would more of a danger than anything else, as both the Atha'an Miere would seek to influence the Tower through her, and the Seanchan would feel threatened by a Tower Atha'an Miere alliance. Though she was forced to the Tower and many believe she was pushed towards the Browns, she has always felt the great call of the Brown Ajahs mission.

Notes

Less for me to say about the Browns. Been busy and this is a bit rushed out. Their whole thing in the original hoi4 mod inspired project is that they seem to be the best choice, but in reality they just bring slightly less baggage than any other possible Amyrlin. The Ter'angreal are pretty much all based on one's seen in the books besides Stacker Boxes. The Wirespeak Ter'angreal is like an ultra primitive Telegraph using the Power; At most it connects a few key rooms and can be used as a type of intercom, but it can knock a Aes Sedai out trying to use for more than a few seconds, and it really isn't clear speaking through. It's also super expensive and takes up a lot of room, as all the "wires" are made of rare metals with intricate and expensive designs on them, the wires need replaced regularly as usage can cause them to just burn away, and they are all connected to a massive ballroom sized box; Like, imagine the earliest computers sized. So they won't really be likely to have that communication technology widely available for a long time. Please interact or send asks, these take a lot of time and I really hope people like them!

Reader is a stunning singer and an even stronger dancer. Dancing is something she's cared about since a very young age, going to dance class 9–5 on weekends and all day after school on weekdays. Being bullied and having no friends made leaving for dance practice more enticing; even if she was tired, she never missed a day.

It was her strong suit—the first thing everyone noticed when she performed.

She appeared in the public eye for the first time on "Noa," a survival show hosted by Hybe ent in 2018. Her captivating visuals and talents amazed viewers and the eyes of 18-year-old actor Park Solomon.

He had just finished filming "Sweet Revenge" not too long ago and was to soon be starring in Lookism; he had never really cared for music survival shows or music in general. Noa just happened to be running when he had nothing else to watch. Solomon was interested in what would come from the show, especially what would come from you.

In his head, he had wished you luck in debuting; he would've voted for you, but he wasn't sure how the website worked, so he settled for silent encouragement.

Eventually, in April of 2019, you debuted in the group Seasons, a light-hearted, bubbly, girl-crush-style group, a classic concept for girl groups in 2018.

He enjoyed the debut song and added it to his favorite playlist, and that was the end of it; he didn't give much more thought to it, and that's the extent of your parasocial relationship.

Flash forward to early 2021, and Minju, the member of your group you knew pre-debut, was begging you to take up a role offered to you for a new zombie-thriller-style show.

Acting was never a skill you possessed, nor was it something you cared about taking up, but the director of the show told your manager you fit the visuals he had imagined for the character perfectly. With staff and members practically begging you to take it, you inevitably did. The show would start shooting later that year, which gave you time to take classes and fully understand what you were getting into.

Eventually, the time to start shooting came, and you got your script.

It was so much more than you assumed it would be; it was kind of stress-inducing but thrilling at the same time.

You finally step on set, ready for anything, and all you can focus on is none other than Kim Eun Ae, a mean girl from your early years of high school.

You were excited, yes, but this made this a lot harder than it should've been.

What distro of Linux do you use, and what would you recommend to someone who has been using Ubuntu for a decade because ae's scared to move away from aer familiar package manager? You know. Hypothetically.

i use Void, bc Arch was too mainstream slkdfjsdlk (okay no fr i use Void bc i kept seeing it on r/unixporn and i wanted a distro that had the "go nuts show nuts" curate-your-own-experience style Arch has but without systemd - no judgement if you like it, but it's not my vibe).

i used to use Mint and have done on-and-off since version 4 Daryna - Crunchbang was discontinued around that time and i wanted another Ubuntu-based distro to switch to.

so, if someone were looking to try something new (hypothetically, of course d: ) i would recommend considering the following first:

what's aer typical workload (and therefore what would be suitable) ?

how far would ae be willing to explore beyond aer comfort zone ?

how much time would ae have to learn new things ?

trying one or two distros out in a VM might be a good way for aem to familiarise aemself w/ any immediate quirks and pick a distro to install on bare metal (perhaps alongside aer existing distro ?)

for something more familiar i might recommend Debian Testing or LMDE (the version of Mint based directly on Debian) as they share much of the same internal architecture. i believe Debian offers a netinstall that's barebones like Arch/Void/Gentoo if trying new software (perhaps including a new DE/WM/Wayland compositor) without losing all familiarity would be of interest to this person.

for something more adventurous i would suggest Arch and perhaps picking a full DE to start with, then maybe trying an install that's more uh selective. personally, Void is no harder than Arch but the community is smaller and a person who hypothetically chose this as their new distro would not only have the barebones nature of that class of distro + an unfamiliar package manager to contend with, but additionally an unfamiliar init system (though runit is terrifyingly simple, i must say). there's also Artix, which is Arch but w/out systemd (i think they offer runit or openrc).

there are plenty of wacky distros (Bedrock, Fedora Silverblue, NixOS, Qubes, Gentoo) that would be fun to experiment with on a non-critical system/VM but they're very far removed from a decade of Ubuntu.

i appreciate this is a long answer, but you asked a lovely question and it's fun to indulge in uh um what's definitely totally a hypothetical d: if someone were to change distro i hope ae know ae can reach out to ask further questions :3

“Im- im fine epel, someone took my walking assistant, but its fine. I can get to my next class without it. “ they mutter, seeming determined as their knees shook with their weight. Epel shook his head, ducking to the wall through the crowds of students in the hallways,wrapping an arm around their waist to help support them.

“Yer not fine, darling. “ he didnt care if vil could hear that he was using his accent, he just was worried about his partner. “Yer not supposed to walk without et. “ he said, before picking them up bridal style. They yelped in surprise, wrapping their arms around his neck and muttering in indignation.

The Secret History: my english teacher recommended it in class, and it caught my attention. I bought it the next summer and read it. the writing style is so vivid, and the story was really interesting! it came one of my favorite books and started my love for unreliable narrators.

My Dark Vanessa: the best approach to "Lolita, but from Dolores' perspective" I've ever read. it's such an accurate depiction of grooming, the cycle of abuse, and the lasting effects of manipulation on victims. it's terrifying, but real.

Post-canon-divergent Hellcheer... fluff-adjacent? Someone described this as a dark-chocolate kind of fluff so we're gonna go with that. PG-ish and also on ao3

It becomes a routine, in the way of such things.

Chrissy gets out of Hawkins, to the surprise of most people who know her, packs her important possessions ten days after graduation and leaves a note saying she’s going to try to start over in Chicago and makes sure to call home two days later to confirm she’s still alive. She finds a life for herself in the inner suburbs, gets a job as a secretary at a law firm, starts taking night classes to become a paralegal. Does okay, in the grand scheme of things. Calls her parents every other Thursday night like clockwork because family is still family, but tries to block out the voices in her head otherwise. Heals.

But she comes home for the holidays every year, because she’s still a nice girl even if she didn’t really keep in touch with anyone from high school. There’s still the obligation to remind people that she exists and is living a mundane but happy life, and no she isn’t seeing anybody but her dog’s real cute, and what may or may not have happened in spring ’86 matters less and less every winter.

She has routines. December 23 is one of them.

The thing about her leaving that didn’t make it into the local story was exactly who disappeared for three days that summer to help her, out of the goodness of his heart and a sense of obligation after she did almost die in his trailer a couple months earlier. They became friends after that, in a trauma-bonded opposites-attract sort of way, and by the time she realized her plans would be easier with a getaway driver it was a logical enough option. Eddie is good people under all his armor, Chrissy had learned by then, one of the most loyal people she’s ever known, and that too became a routine phone call, every Saturday around noon, only real thing tethering her to what hasn’t felt like home in years and-

He stayed, to the surprise of pretty much everyone who’s ever met him. He had a younger herd of misfits to supervise for a couple years, and before that project ended he tended bars across two counties and turned out that was enough of a life, and there are people who need him, and he never really was the sort of person who actually gets out of southern Indiana, and-

December 23 is their routine, a standing meetup at dusk at a particular park shelter. Not always the only time they ever see each other – the band came up to Chicago twice this past year for different gigs and he ended up on her couch both times because he didn’t feel like being crammed sardine-style in a cheap hotel room with the other guys – but the high point of her year if she’s honest with herself. Every year she waits for something to go wrong, for him not to show up or there to be a ring on his finger that wasn’t there last time or-

She looks different now, looks different since he came up back in August – a week or two after that she decided she needed a change and she wanted a haircut like Princess Diana, and wow was that a mistake, and it’s at an awkward stage of growing-out and there was no way in hell she would’ve been able to stuff all of that in a hat. Every year she’s a little more worried about how she looks, the genuine kind of worried not like she used to be when she thought that was all she had, more like…

Chrissy is, in her way, a little bit in love. Turns out she’s a bit of a loner if left to her own devices – she has a lot of acquaintances and does get out of her apartment enough, but no one really close – and if she has to be one cliché then let her be this one. Let her be the woman who never quite got over the high-school crush she never admitted. Let her be-

Eddie’s sense of time has never been reliable, and he’s a little late but not quite enough to worry her. He’s changed too, in little ways – she can’t remember ever seeing his hair pulled back but she knows that’s probably more practical than aesthetic, and it looks like he hasn’t shaved in a day or two longer than whatever his usual routine is and goodness she shouldn’t be thinking about yanking him down and-

“You’re here,” he says, and this is why she kinda loves him, the enthusiasm in how he approaches life, no false fronts just raw emotions at all times and no self-consciousness whatsoever.

“So are you.” She can feel herself blushing, and she’ll blame the cold for this, same explanation for her hands in her pockets because she’s not sure what kind of physical control she actually has right now. At least it isn’t snowing this year. At least-

“Nowhere else I’d rather be.”

“What, you don’t have better plans?”

“I have my choice of burnt hams for the next few days. Tonight is all yours.”

The thing is, she’s not sure there was ever a time when they didn’t flirt like this, like there’s always that line they’ll go right up to but never cross. She knows he thinks she’s pretty in the most real way, and he’s been a nice daydream over the years, and-

He pulls her into a hug, and he smells like boy and home and she’s a little overwhelmed. “Keep waiting for you to cancel because you got some lawyer to put a ring on you,” he murmurs. “Can’t imagine they’d-“

“Lawyers aren’t my flavor,” she counters. “And you haven’t met some girl down here?”

“I’ve met too many girls,” he laughs, and she knows, there have been a few mistakes over the years that she got to talk down in the way only an out-of-state phone call can resolve. “Nothing stuck.”

She can’t hope. She does anyway.

Normal people, Chrissy tells herself, don’t do this. Normal people don’t linger in long-distance mutual pining for so many years because they’re too damn fragile to think about anything more. Normal people, like she’s trying so hard to be, don’t-

“Any reason for that?” she asks, and her breath catches and they’re both too close and not close enough for the conversation she suddenly needs to have right now.

“Thought you’d never ask. See, the timing keeps not being right, and who the hell am I to compete with a dog with a ridiculous name, and-“

“Excuse me, Peppermint is not-“

“So, you know. Waiting on the girl who got away is a little distracting.”

“I’m right here.”

“And you won’t be in four days.”

“You could come with. You didn’t complain about my couch last time, Peppermint likes you, and… you’re better than this.”

“What, and leave my empire?”

“Didn’t you always want to?”

He kisses the top of her head and they haven’t done that before and she wants to melt, and she feels so small and that’s nothing new but it’s always been safer like this than anywhere else. “You know how to make a proposition,” he says, and the delight in his voice is infectious. “No let’s take this slow, no let’s make out in the back of your car and see if that even works, no, you’re straight to-“

“I’m offering my couch,” she says, faking indignation. “Not my bed. Yet.”

“Exactly my point. Can’t imagine you’ve extended that offer to anyone else.”

“I’m not really in touch with anyone else from here.”

“That’s still amazing, you know that? Our former queen bee isn’t-“

“I wasn’t happy,” she points out. “That’s why I kept you. Because you make me happy.” Because none of those fake friends would’ve waited for two hours for an ambulance to show up, lied about her hitting her head on a piece of furniture because that was the best explanation they could come up with for what they didn’t understand, snuck in to visit her every day and charmed a few nurses in the process, made sure her hospital room was covered in probably-stolen flowers by the time she woke up and-

That’s the sort of experience that binds two people, and she’s spent the past seven and a half years thinking that might be the only reason he puts up with her, because he owes her after that, and… maybe that’s wrong. Maybe they’ve both always been more than this.

“Do I?”

“Yeah. Completely.”

She’s feeling impatient, and she gets her hands around his neck and pulls him down like she’s been wanting for minutes like she’s been wanting for years, and she’s kissed more people than she cares to admit but this is different. This is anticipation and awkwardness and the kind of love too many people told her she’d never actually get, and she wants to cry and she can’t cry while someone’s mouth is on hers so instead she sorta accidentally bites his lip and he makes a pretty noise and-

“You can’t just do that,” he breathes, still so very close. “Now I’m ruined for anyone else.”

“Maybe that’s what I want. Maybe I want to keep you forever.”

They do, as usual, end up in the back of her car for warmth.

This year, it’s a lot more tactile warmth.

It’s a beginning. She’s never wanted anything more.

hi firstly oh my gosh you're literally so sweet i am gently shaking you i love you so much /p. secondly, i apologize for the long answer! (it's all under the cut. this got away from me. i'm so sorry apparently i have a lot to say.) (also you're so good about the questions i would constantly be asking one of my professors questions during class to the point where she said i didn't have to go "i have a question" every time i approached her)

i've been editing since 2016! around march/april, i think? loved it so much i went into film & video production in college as a major so i could do editing for a living. (i have done more motion graphics for my classmates than i have done edits outside of class assignments, BUT!)

the program i use is after effects - i started learning it when covid first hit the united states because i had nothing better to do with my time (other than music theory but i failed that bc my professor focused more on the history aspects than the actual theory soooo) and my ipad kept giving me the "no more storage" whenever i tried to use videostar lmao. (vs has, apparently, gotten a LOT of good updates, so if you're looking to start editing and have an ios system, i'd look into it! only downside is you have to pay for some of the cool stuff).

also the program i use for masking (i think i explain this later dwdw) is superimpose. i've been using it since 2014 and it's SO nice bc i can use my fingers to erase backgrounds & stuff instead of hoping i can get it to work correctly in ae or photoshop (photoshop my DETESTED i'll use it but i'll complain the entire time).

for people who want to start editing: tutorials on how your program works and how to do specific transitions are gonna be your best friend when you're first figuring things out! i forced a friend to literally walk me through how after effects worked when i was first figuring it out, and when i had swapped to videostar back in 2017/2018(?) i had watched a Lot of tutorials. that and played around a lot and figured things out on my own - which is also always a good way to start!! it's also totally valid to look at other people's edits for inspiration - most editors don't really care, as long as you don't flat-out remake their edit (some people don't like that!). i have a style insp folder on instagram where i save edits that i like so if i need transition ideas or i'm doing a different style, i can look there for inspiration. at the end of the day, as long as you're having fun with it that's all that matters!

also, starting simple is always okay!! my edits for a year were just me slapping gifs & video segments together on a timeline in cute cut pro bc imovie didn't load them lol & it'd crash every time i breathed. ++ it never hurts to ask people for feedback/constructive(!!!) criticism/etc! (also not to sound like everyone else but practice? good. it's so good. if i showed my 14/15y/o self some of the edits i can make now they would've passed out on the spot bc i was still trying to figure out transitions back then. programs can also sometimes make a difference in edits, but usually it's not super noticeable until you start getting to the Complicated Shit.)

a lot of popular programs i've seen are ones like video star (ios only), alight motion (android only), after effects (i recommend 🏴‍☠️ing it tbh, i only use it legally bc i had to use adobe programs for school), capcut, and i think some people still use sony vegas pro & maybe cute cut pro (i've heard it may have actually gotten better since i last used it in 2018)? i have no idea. programs also depend on whatever device you're using to edit on! since i've been using my laptop, i'm able to use after effects (it's computer-only), but when i used my phone/ipad to edit i used ccp & vs.

for the animation - it's a lot of cutting up the image and masking! more complex animations, like the one i had of leo walking down that red 'hallway' have several different layers that have been masked. (i removed the background & filled in the spot where leo originally was in two different apps - superimpose (taking leo out) & photoshop (filling in the bg)) in after effects, the way i've done this was mask out the specific thing i wanted to move (like an eye) and then put that mask on what i've called a "base" (not animated), and then stick a solid behind the base to match the color of the object. (some of my layers are not named appropriately; base 2 is the left arm & the four "SIX_[...]" layers are the mask/bandana tails)

an example of this would be for any of the eye blink animations i did! this (above) is the same shot, with and without the eye - since it's masked out and i have the background solid behind it, it doesn't look too unnatural/have a black outline/mass where his eye should be.

this is what my timeline looks like if it's a more simplistic animation - the only five things being animated here are leo & raph's eyes. (there's only this many layers bc it's two characters in one shot & i was also animating their pupils - typically, an eye-blink animation is about 4-6 layers for me (solid, base, mask, & null to animate with, 6 if i'm animating both eyes & 4 if just one))

in after effects, there's this really cool tool called the puppet pin that one of my friends (lovingly) yelled at me for not knowing about - which. yeah fair she wasn't wrong it's SUPER useful in animating, provided you chop up your image first. if you don't it's a mess.

(separated by layer vs i should've really put the mask tails & leo's head on separate layers and didn't bc that was the 2nd to last animation i had to do and i was losing my mind bc i wanted to be done with the edit lmao)

the way people animate depends all on their style (there's two common ways to do blinking animation - having the anchor point at the bottom of the eye, or the middle of it) and the program they use. it's been a while, but i could probably tell you how to do some basic animations on videostar still even though i've been doing them in after effects for about 2-3years now. ALSO the best way to have an animation be noticeable is to over-exaggerate it/make them Big - which, yes, can mean 'breaking bones' and having the limbs be a little wonky at the start. (if you want it to be realistic though go Just to the point where it looks uncomfortable lmao)

Run

It was easy for her to get lost in thoughts as she strolled to the building off to the north of the plaza where most of her classes were. Coincidentally, the campus coffee shop resided within, and the first floor had become an informal hangout spot for many small groups of students – friends, group project partners, or those helping each other with homework. She pushed the hood off her head before her hand came up to run through her black hair. The entry hall was huge with a long hallway off to the east that led to professor offices, and a couple of segregated restrooms. With each inch of wall covered in some kind of art, photo, sculpture, something creative done by students both past and present that the college wanted to show off. Some won awards, others were the first photo of a long career, something she aimed for. To have one of her photos to adorn the wall of fame that was right before the coffee shop where everyone got a chance to look at as they waited to acquire their morning wake up call.

Rain

When it was finally her turn, she gave a half-smile to the barista, who greeted her. A creature of familiar comforts, the young woman ordered a dark roast coffee, two sugars, and two creams with a chocolate chip muffin as breakfast. Unlike most, she headed back outside, where the rain had disappeared with a foggy mist that hung in the air like a welcomed guest for her. The wet wooden bench might not have been the most comfortable place, still, it was quiet, and that was worth it. Robust and nutty coffee, along with a rich, moist muffin, made a smile cross her face. It might not be the college she wanted to get into, but it was the one she could get into.

Real

“Some great shots here,” Hilda said. “You got a real eye. Dad said you were working on a collage, right? Can I see it when you are done?”

Erika nodded, “Hell yeah. It’s for a school project, but I will take a picture of it and send it to you. Tell your dad I said thanks again. Have a good one!”

Road

At the intersection of Ridge Road and Sumpter Hill Drive, a young woman clad in a denim jacket adorned with various patches and buttons that covered a dark blue hoodie with its hood up and sewn-on cat ears concealed her features and kept her warm in the cold rain. Strapped across her chest was an old leather messenger bag that she had found in her grandmother’s attic some years back. Now well-maintained and held her college textbooks, supplies, and a Canon AE-1 Program analog camera that her aunt had in perfect condition since the late eighties. Everything the young photography student could need. Of course, her style went right along with the vintage vibe from every photo she took and got developed, a piece of time both present and past.

Edit 05.09.23: I no longer support AI art. This has been true for a while but I haven't updated my intro. If you go back far enough you may find some art. When I first got into it I thought they used only free photo databases and only art that had entered public domain. I know this was naive now. I liked the hyperrealistic style renders that could generate character inspiration. I didn't know how much art was being stolen and how many styles were being replicated nonconsenually. Honestly when I got into it I was being very delusional. So it took me a while to accept that what was happening with AI art was happening. Using AI art tools for fun was not as completely harmless as it first appeared. I don't want to help that industry, but I do hope one day AI art could be different. Not a threat. Because the programming potential would not be a replacement of human art. AI programming is a special interest bc I think the field needs people who care about the ethics of how AI technology is used. I think I finally found my groove with Obsidian/Zettelkasten. It's definitely something I had to work out for myself, though I still took a lot of inspiration from the YouTuber I posted the video of a while back! I'm glad it helped some people, I think 100 level classes should include a survey of note-taking and study styles, I would have been unstoppable in undergrad if we were taught to learn. Also, its kind of impressive how calm and content I can be in a dim room with classical playing in my headphones and a big comfortable sweater. I like this feeling. Finally I'm just studying, I'm caught up on assignments so I can just study. I like this feeling, and I don't want to forget it again in the stress. Wishing you warm, comfortable, and peaceful vibes too~

It’s nearly 11pm here so I’ll make this brief haha. I’m fallen behind due to just life stuff that I can’t help. It’s sad how fast it feels like drowning in academia. Hopefully I’ll get caught up and not have issues, but for now the stress is here.

Procrastinating as an engineer is an interesting thing. I got tired of having a haphazard pile of postit notes on my desk so I fixed the problem! I also discovered that my student license for Fusion 360 expired, so I had to find something else. I was expecting to find something "good enough" but for mechanical parts (which is my use case) I actually really like Solve Space a lot better than any Autodesk product I've tried, and its Open Source!
