I know this is a MIXED bag but I just kinda put everything that reminds me of them here so I want to elaborate:

1. Just one yesterday - Fall out boy: I can NOT listen to it without thinking about them, literally every verse fits: “Angels choking on their halos” - Alexander losing at Austerlitz, “I don’t have the right name or the right looks but I have twice the heart” - Alexander has the perfect name and looks for a monarch but it’s Napoleon that everyone admires. And then there’s the chorus about wanting to teach someone a lesson but still longing for the time when things were good? And the bridge?? “If I spilled my guts the world would never look at you the same way” - bro. It’s their song. To me.

2. Rewrite The Stars - The Greatest Showman: Do I even need to explain this one? They’re star-crossed! Napoleon sings Zafron’s part, obviously.

3. Улыбки сфинксов - Flëur: I had to put in at least one russian song. And come on, Napoleon and Egypt? Alexander literally being called Northern Sphinx? And the whole song is about two people talking in riddles and being unable to communicate? Yeah.

4. Hot n Cold - Katy Perry: Yes, really. Look I know it’s silly but it also just perfectly encapsulates Napoleon’s frustration with Alexander not committing to the alliance while also not breaking it off.

5. Irresistible - Fall out boy. Yes, another FOB but listen, it’s the BRIDGE! The bridge is about them, it even has french in it! “I’m coming for you and I’m making war”? And it goes both ways!

6. Everybody wants to rule the world- Lorde: it’s cliché, but it still fits them “So glad we’ve almost made it, so sad they had to fade it” just hits different

7. Gold - Imagine Dragons: This one I associate specifically with Napoleon but it’s also about the corruption of power in general so I included it anyway.

8. Teen Idle - Marina and the Diamonds: Since I have one for just Napoleon, this one is what I most associate with Sasha. It just fits his deformed psyche growing up in court with two opposing influences so well

9. We are never ever getting back together - Taylor Swift: Yeah. This is another silly one, but tell me you can’t just picture them bickering listening to it, especially with all the unanswered letters from Moscow.

10. Recovery - James Arthur: Unexpected, I know! I don’t know why I connected it to them so strongly but I think it works for how they ended up? Napoleon sick in exile, Alexander disappointed with his reign and apathetic. They’re both ‘recovering’ from endless wars, one in isolation, another in mysticism, they are shadows of who they once were. Very tragic end to this playlist as well as their relationship. Oh well!

Having read the azriel bryce and Nesta bonus chapter here are some musical things I believe that the acotar characters would do if they were in Midgard. All 100% my opinion but please feel free to add your own thoughts I’d love to know them!

Ships: Feysand, Elucien, whatever Amren and Varians is

1. Azriel and Nesta have gone to a rave. I know this is far fetched but I believe that they have gone to a rave with Ruhn and whoever but we’re tripping balls the entire time and thought the lights were little bugs trying to eat their skin off. They were traumatised and will never do it again.

2. Elain and Feyre went to midgards version of Taylor Swift. They made their own costumes and dragged Rhysand and Lucien along. They lost their voices for two days afterwards.

3. Amren secretly followed Azriel and Nesta to the rave and loved it. She’s been going with Varian regularly ever since. No one has found out yet. Additionally no one has found out that she was on the floor at the Midgard Taylor Swift concert.

4. Mor is not a concert person. She goes to the gigs of up coming bands that play at bars or in the streets and enjoys listening and supporting them. She 100% listens to Indy music. Her favourite big artists however are Doce Cameron, Halsey and FLETCHER. And basically anything calming yet slightly sexual if you understand what I’m getting at.

5. Cassian listens to literally everything and has cried at a Hozier concert. His playlist during acosf was a mixture between “I’m the hottest bitch alive” and “omg please love me I’ll do anything”. He definitely listens to country music and I believe his favourite song is ‘Would you go with me’ by Josh Turner because it reminds him of Nesta.

short taylor swift playlists for each tig character - avery

i'll make playlists for other characters too cause i found this really fun. here are some songs that really remind me of avery (there are others so i might add some later). some are her and jamie songs and some are just her. i felt like doing some short explanations (that might not make sense bc it's midnight for me) so here they are :)

#1: who's afraid of little old me? when i first heard this song, i immediately thought of her. it would take ages for me to explain it all (which i will do in another post), but, in the song, taylor mocks her haters, and tells them that she is what the world (her old record label, haters) made her and that, because of this, they shouldn't be scared of 'little old her'. people tend to downsize her and her struggles, and this song addresses that. this all just screamed avery to me. the media was so horrible to avery when she first inherited the money and underestimated her. the media judges her for being what they want her to be (if that makes sense. if avery were different, haters would still hate her)

#2: the smallest man who ever lived: now this song is about an ex partner, but if we remove all of the more romantic aspects of this song (so if we take the song's concept), i can't help but think of avery and her father/tobias/sheffield grayson. her father was never there for her and treated her like crap. tobias put her in a position where she was most likely going to die and used her. sheffield did horrible things to her too. i imagine this song being her confronting them (sort of).

#3: i hate it here for this song, there isn't necessarily something that screams avery to me, but it is a song about escapism which i feel is something avery did a lot growing up the way she did to get away from her problems, and the struggles that came with poverty. i think her method of escapism was games.

#4: you're on your own, kid: avery, before inheriting the money and meeting the brothers, had always been alone. her only friend was older than her and moved away, her sister wasn't very present in her life, and her mom died when she was 15. i think the rest is self-explanatory.

#5: long story short: this song fits her a bit more loosely, but the concept really resonates with avery (i think). it's a song about how, despite taylor being villainized and hated on by the media (during the kanye situation), she was still able to survive and get through it. with the amount of judgement and hate avery got after she inherited the money, i think this song suits her.

#6: the last great american dynasty: this song is about a woman who inherits her late husband's holiday house and the judgment she received because of it. people accused her of murder, of being mad, etc. this is literally avery's song bc people also accused her of shady things.

#7: the man: i think this is sort of self-explanatory. the song is about sexism and how she would be treated differently if she was a man.

#8: dress: an averyjameson song because why not. very sensual, sultry, and just very averyjameson. i always think of them when i listen to the song.

#9: call it what you want: very cute love song that i think suits aj perfectly. it's about not caring what the media has to say about your relationship bc all that matters is that the two of you know the truth.

#10: wonderland: lyrics scream averyjameson. this song suits them almost perfectly. i will be making a full analysis of this song to them someday. i really don't know how to explain this without writing a 347204 page essay so just listen to the song (let's just ignore that this song is about a toxic relationship though...)

#11: i knew you were trouble: avery when she first met jameson. one of taylor's most popular songs. i think this is self-explanatory.

#12: the lucky one: a song about the negative impact the media can have on someone. it's about this girl who had it all, but over time, got tired of the hate and escaped to a life of solitude. i think this somewhat applies to avery. although i don't think she'd disappear, i do think she'd someday start laying low.

#13: nothing new (ft: phoebe bridgers): i can never listen to this song without thinking about avery. it's a song about fearing the future and what will become of you. someday, you'll become old news and people will cast you aside. i think this fits (future or even present) avery. we know she has some self-worth issues, so i don't think it would be far fetched to say that she might think of herself as some sort of toy that will someday be forgotten by not only the media (although i don't think she'd mind), but also by jameson, and his brothers.

#14: sparks fly: full analysis here. i already made a longer analysis, but it's basically a song about falling for someone you know might be dangerous but not being able to stay away. to me this is the aj song.

#15: never grow up: i think the title is self-explanatory. i feel like avery would look back at her younger self wishing she'd never grown up because then she'd still have her mom. kind of a sad way to end this playlist, but i just went in order of album releases and tracklist numbers so..

You and Danny were the textbook definition of high school sweethearts, even making it in the yearbook for most likely to get married. Never in a million years would you have been prepared for the world of hurt that followed the messiest breakup this town has ever seen. Something about going to college and needing to find some perspective, whatever the hell that meant. In the seven years that have since passed, you’ve done everything imaginable to block everything out of your memory. Hell, you quite literally left town a few months after because it was just too much. In a small town where everyone knows everything, you just couldn’t escape the hushed whispers every time you left the house. Not to mention the fact that nearly everything reminded you of him, from the traffic light in front of the bank he almost ran on the first date because he couldn’t stop staring at you…

Your heart panged as you remembered the familiar feeling you had on your graduation day when it really sank in that you didn’t have Danny anymore. God why couldn’t you get him out of your mind? Shaking your head, you stepped out of your car into the brisk, unforgiving cold. Walking down the street, you admired all of the stores with festive window-front decorations. You found yourself even popping in a few of the shops and getting some last minute gifts for some of your friends back in the city. As you exited one store and made your way back out onto the street, the wind suddenly picked up and a strong gust ripped the scarf from around your neck. “Shit!” you gasped, going to chase after it. Just forget it, I should be getting back anyway.” Your chest felt heavy as all the old emotions were coming back up, tears threatening to spill out. i love this question, but i will admit that it’s so hard for me to choose just one ultimate song! so here’s probably like my list of the most kataang-coded songs from her discography, categorized by each of her albums minus debut:

Sexy and I Know It by nestra Oh my god it’s Jamie Tartt from Ted Lasso. I laughed, I wheezed. Jamie Tartt is indeed sexy and he knows it. This is so much fucking FUN.

Four words on the top of your tongue by donteatthebee Okay apparently this is for this new show called Vice Principals and I have no idea what is gong on in this vid (nobody in chat did either). But what we do know is that Walton Goggins is fucking incredible and you get two middle aged men who love each other and even hump each other on screen and give each other pining and adoring looks? Shades of Purple by BlueshiftOfDeath Vice Principals vid about Gamby and Russell loving each other. There’s also a tiger and some shooting and I still don’t know what is going on but I’m also seeing arson and… Wow there is so much happening. There’s clips in this vid that I didn’t see in the other Vice Principals vid and I am even more intrigued. I’ve also never heard this song before but the vibe of the music is *chefs kiss* Consider me recruited. Duel of the Fates by jonesandashes, pollyrepeat Star Wars. I was NOT PREPARED FOR THIS VID. Oh my god I am howling. I was not prepared for the song and… everything else. Literally just giggling and covering my face the whole vid saying “whatttttt??” over and over.  This might be the greatest Obi-Wan vid I’ve ever seen. How the glass breaks on the beat at 2:06!!!! Sheer perfection.

At Your Pace by Rhea 9-1-1 show ‘cos that’s where Rhea’s heart lies and it is SO FULL OF LOVE FOR THIS SHOW. This vid is all about Buck and Eddie being an amazingly slashy couple. Also reminded me how I never finished the first season but damn they are so slashy and adorable together. This vid gave me the warm fuzzies and nostalgic slashy feelings.

Wild and sonorous and, great overlays that really did put me back in 1994. Also Jaye Davidson is so fucking beautiful, my god. Outstanding vid. Love seeing Stargate again. Amazing vibes. The Wandering Song by periru3 This is a vid for the comic/animation Over the Garden Wall. Which I have no idea what that’s about but this animation is gorgeous and the editing is ALL VIBES for THIS WHOLE SONG.   Hush, Little Baby by bStro The Sandman vid! INSPIRED song choice for the cover of Enter Sandman. Amazing look at Death, Desire and Johanna Constantine, Lucienne throughout the show with some incredible money shots of Dream of the Endless, of course. But waaahhhh this is supremely epic and satisfying to watch.

A Hazy Shade of Winter by Jayne L (JayneL) The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance vid! Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck this vid is epic. This definitely has become the vid that I will forever associate with this song (and I have even vidded this song before, hah). This vid has incredible pacing and uses the stunning visuals of the show so well. I didn’t want to blink the whole time because I didn’t want to miss a single frame. Like, damn. Epic.

The hammer and the nail by stardust_rain Star Wars. Cassian Andor’s political education. Fuuuuuuuck. Mind the warnings on this vid, naturally, but y’all?? Do you all know how amazing it is to see Thea Gillmore music used in a vid?? Lyrics + tone of the song is so perfect for Andor. The pacing has me nodding and grooving along and it’s definitely a must-watch if you are into the show.

Multi-source vids that will make your jaw drop...

This is It by sandalwoodbox This is a pan-fandom vid (over 50 sources!!) about characters playing Go. It’s brilliant and it took me about halfway through the vid to actually notice each clip features a character playing black or white and throughout the vid the whole game is progressing, holy fuck, it’s so much fun and the lyrics are bangin’ for it too.

Bicycle Race by seekingferret Putting a Queen song to ALL THE BICYCLES EVER! There’s so many movies and tv shows in this vid and the progression of bicycle riding and then the moving frames with everyone riding their bicycle just escalates the fun. I keep losing it when I get to the bell chiming section and everyone starts falling off the bicycles, wahaha.

Relationship dynamics like whoa... A and B Song by mithborien A new Steve/Bucky vid FROM MITIHBORIEN!! I have been loving mithborien’s vids for an eternity now and oh my god just roll up into the con with a new Steve/Bucky vid and smack me back into my slashy feelings all over again. Tom McRae used to get around in fanvids ages ago but man I was so happy to hear him again for this vid in particular. The lyrical associations are fabulous. I feel wrung out after watching this vid.

Destroying Angels by Tafadhali Yellowjackets. Shauna/Jackie, fucked up teenage sapphics and cannibalism. This show is so fucked up and this vid doubly so, for all the right bad reasons whew. I was watching this and literally muttering “oh fuck” every 15 seconds. The vocalist is eerie, the underlying instrumentation during the verses is HAUNTING and foreboding. This vid does not pull any punches. The lyrics about ink and blood on her shoes and icy skin??  It’s a very intense vid..

Grandpa Never Gives Up His Money by ghost_lingering OMG NEW GHOST LINGERING VID!! This is for the 2018 film Trust about Paul Getty’s family. Whew the content warnings. Eat the rich. What an incredible use of The Beatles, too. The tonal shift at 1:15 is killer and holy crap this vid just keeps going and going and GOING and everything gets worse and…what a fucking rollercoaster, holy fuck. I’ve never seen this film but goddamn. A great vid for a fucked up family and movie. I’m kind of obsessed with the edits on the guitar in the last minute of this vid, too. Incredible stuff.

Don’t Take the Money by Anoel - not uploaded yet I don’t think? Will edit this post when I find the video online. Tag me if you see it! This is a Succession siblings vid and honestly I was not sure what to expect because I thought it was going to be the original song but it’s actually an MTV Unplugged cover featuring The Bleachers and Lorde. And oh my god it just really epitomizes how much the right cover can do wonders for a vid idea. Jesus Christ. These siblings got so fucked up and fucked over by Logan and that just hurts even more when you see all the human moments the siblings have for each other in this vid.

Moon Knight vid!! “A man is not made by his fractures; he is able to mine them as a chance to emerge whole.” Aw, I really fucking love Oscar Isaac’s portrayal of Marc. This is a song I’ve never seen vidded before! Lil’ Was X’s Tales of Dominica. “Sometimes you’re angry / sometimes you’re hurting / sometimes you’re all alone.” If that isn’t the epitome of Marc’s life I don’t know what it is. Spectacular editing through and through. Live to Tell by AurumCalendula Star Trek TOS, Animated Original Series and Star Trek Discovery. A whole vid focusing on the Guardian of Forever! And the portal and the characters who go through the portals. Aurum’s cropping of the disco footage was so interesting and I think it did a lot to help it fit in with the other footage because everything is filmed so differently. This vid explores what it is like for characters who are trapped living an entire life during a day. Heartwrenchingly beautiful. And painful! Cause then they lean into living out their life. But then the day ends and the characters have to go back to their other life. Aaaah, “say goodbye to the world you thought you lived in.” 😭😭😭😭 Very good pain.

Thousand Eyes by nu_breed_vids (nu_breed) This is a Korean TV show 손 : The Guest (TV). Åppears to be horror and trauma and really walloping the main character with the angst and whump. Mind the vidder notes/tags. In fact the vidder tagged this “Yoon Hwapyung is a whump magnet” which seems to track. The song choice is so ominous and slow-burn-y and goddamn, I’m not sure if this is some kind of demonic possession or whatever but I gotta check it out. The instrumental section with the drums and escalating strings is so TERRIFYINGGG with the blood and pain and losing himself. My god.

Reincarnation by ExtraPenguin Star Wars sequel trilogy. Rey vid!! This is a constructed reality vid about Rey being the reincarnation of Anakin. The editing on this is so fucking slick and intense and incredible. So warning for lots of quick cuts and later flickering lightening shots. Oh my god. The intercutting between Rey and the original trilogy footage. I am foaming at the mouth. This vid is a (ahem) force to be reckoned with. It’s so cool and interesting to see Star Wars canon get recontexualized for this concept. And it’s executed so well!! Do watch if you are a Star Wars fan.

Never forget the antiheroes and misfits... Antihero by theletterelle Loki vid! It’s exhausting to always be rooting for the antihero. Oh, this is definitely reawakening my Loki feelings. The lyrics (especially the chorus!!) are so good for Loki. Do love, will watch again.

Superstar by sandalwoodbox A Nimona vid!! To Tegan and Sara! Oh holy fuck, I’ve come to expect and hope for awesome vids for this movie but this one is dark and still grooving with the beat. I did not expect this song to work so well with fame and propaganda. Oh my god, Gloreth's betrayal and Nimona and all the fallout with that. My. Goddddd. "I saw my first angel and it was you" omg NIMONA. Goddamn, these lyrics really punch you in the face.

Lover edition - Part 1 (I also have some for the other albums but I’ll do another post for them ; and it was way to long to post the whole album in one post)

Track 3 - Lover is NeilRowan from Today Tonight Tomorrow (and I discovered making this post that a second book about them is going to be released ???? wild) by Rachel Lynn Solomon. Let’s be honest, Lover could be most couples on this list, but I feel it’s really them at the end of the book (btw I know it’s not really popular, but it’s a really cute academic-to-lovers contemporary romance book with Jewish rep. I read it a long time ago but from what I remember I liked it a lot !)

Track 5 - The Archer is RosalindOrion from the Foul Lady Fortune duology. I hesitated a lot between them and another couple on this list, but cmon. Orion is LITERALLY the archer. It’s perfect. Track 7 - Miss Americana and the Heartbreak Prince is Evajacks from the OUABH trilogy by Stephanie Garber. I mean, for me this song is them. No question asked. The pink aesthetic, same colour as Evangeline’s hair ? The Heartbreak Prince and the Prince of Heart ? The whisper in the always like the gossips Jacks almost kills in TBONA (I think ?) ? Run away with you ? Like please. And YES I’m the kind of person to associate every love song with this couple, but this one ? Track 8 - Paper Rings is LiLo from the Addicted to You series by Krista and Becca Ritchie. The childhood friend to lovers and pure soulmatism of those two ??? They WOULD marry each other with paper rings like when they were kids (if they weren’t, yk, rich af). My favorite couple in the core 6, they are very very cute (and I love Lily sooo much, I totally understand Lo pining lol)(art : @/kkristenarts on insta)

Track 9 - Cornelia Street is Addie Larue and Henry from The Invisible Life of Addie Larue. Another book I read a long, long time ago lol and I feel this song is them during the book. Like the hope, the place that remind you of someone, but the feeling of doom like in a way you know some day you’ll stop walking those streets ? Even if it’s on Lover, I always felt that this love seemed doomed, the way she’s talking like she knows and it will be over on day. (Art is the French edition of the book).

Prefacing: I used to tolerate TS and her music when I was a teen and couldn't really avoid it. Now I'm 25 and I find her abhorrent as a human being.

(I'm not American and where I am from TS was never a Big Hit, unless we're talking 14 year old girls that eventually grow out of liking her. It's not entirely for a good reason, my country's a bit too conservative-brainwashed to like a self-proclained "girl boss" on a gov. level.)

Something that I noticed about that cult-like worship of that frankly boring woman is that most of the interesting shit about her is 1. made up 2. not about her music and I DO NOT understand how this is even considered a singer anymore.

Like, for example. A bunch of liberal queers like her because they take her bland music and fill it with their own meanings. Her lyrics are so soulless and boring and generic you can apply them to anything. You don't have to go listen to staples of quuer music like what drag queens, or queer women, or Black gay men create: because their music is visceral, it speaks onto real lived through opression that not everyone can relate to. But not with fucking TS! She writes the most TYPICAL line and a bunch of people assign some secret gay meaning to it. The amount of times I saw TS added to playlists for queer content is ridiculous. Like she wouldn't be half as popular if her music was regarded as what it is: straight white girl soliloquy.

The shit about her love life? Should not be fucking mentioned in regards to her as an artist. She's SO fucking fake. She will complain that people only see her as some girl who dates all those guys but she's the one fucking monetizing her love story. I'd understand if she didnt TRY TO but she fucking does! She knows she's bland and boring and she relies on people liking gossip enough to listen to her crap.

probably time, curious time that is specifically lighthearted and fluff

angst, fluff, idiots in love — lmao, yes. i think for the most part i’ll either write about angst or fluff or both. and the idiots in love well they were idiots in love for a hot sec there lol.

8. What song would make a great fic (to either write or read)?

the archer, taylor swift — so you actually put this idea in my head ♡ you answered a question a few weeks back about what song you associated with tim and it just fits so perfectly??? i can just picture each line being different points in his life from childhood, marriage falling apart, pushing everyone away, lucy breaking down those walls, etc. and his mind frame during these periods in time.   

23. What’s a trope, AU, or concept you’ve never written, but would like to?

an actual multi-chaptered story lmao. i’ve technically successfully finished one but it was a 5+1 so i don’t count it as a multi-chapter. i just want to write a story from start to finish because the idea are in my head, words are just hard to get out sometimes (most times) 😭 

30. Have you ever written something that was out of your comfort zone? If so, what was it, and how did it affect your approach to writing fic thereafter?   

smut!!!!!!!!!!!!!! my goodness this is a freaking art. i’ve dabbled~~ but i haven’t fully written out a smut scene because it’s so hard??? i literally have a wip that is the last chapter to a fic that i’m struggling to finish because i’ll write, read it over, and then second guess myself lol. it’s affected my approach to writing in being conscious of the balance that a spicy scene needs? like when i think of the ones that i enjoy reading the most, they’re ones where feelings and emotions support the technicality of the action written.  

35. What aspects of your writing are completely unlike your real life?

any that deal with engagement/marriage/kids. i haven’t experienced any of that yet so writing it sometimes is a bit out of my element because i don’t really have a frame of reference for it except what i’ve seen with others and what i hope for. 

42. Have you ever received a comment that particularly stood out to you for whatever reason?

i think any comment that has something quoted back and why it stood out to the person reading or how it made them feel is just ♡♡♡ part of what i’ve always loved about storytelling is seeing what resonates with others, it's always really cool to see.

45. What’s something you’ve improved on since you started writing fic?

dialogue. i’m looking back at what i’ve written and it wasn’t until the fourth fic i posted that i included a conversation between two characters haha. it’s still something that at times does feel challenging especially trying to capture different voices with the right cadence but i think i’ve gotten better at maintaining the pacing of a conversation and how it ties into the general flow of the fic. 

49. What are you currently working on? Share a few lines if you’re up for it!

this will be for hold onto me 'cause i'm a little unsteady from lucy’s perspective with thinking about her own parental trauma and the fears that come from it

She hates how much of her life they’re missing out on because they can’t be proud of the daughter they have. Something she ultimately learned to accept upon finally having someone wholeheartedly believe in her. While every move and decision she makes is seen as a failure in their eyes, Tim sees the opposite; he taught her what it was to be believed in, provides the reassurance that she could never disappoint him, reminds her that she’s enough just by being who she is and how he loves her for it.

Do you think Maroon is about Matty?

Anon, you know I do! lol But hopefully I can make a little sense of why I think so!

Let's start with the title, itself. Obviously, 'Maroon' is a color, a dark red. This of course hearkens back to Taylor's Red album:

"The album's title refers to the tumultuous, "red" emotions Swift experienced during the album's conception; its songs discuss the complex and conflicting feelings resulting from fading romance."

The term "fading romance" reminds me of how red can "fade" into maroon, think bright red autumn leaves fading to brown. Taylor is reminiscing about a love that faded.

Though, the title could have a double meaning. Maroon is also used as a verb, meaning "to abandon or isolate someone". These are themes we see in both 'Cardigan' and 'Question…?', and I'd argue that Taylor visually shows herself marooned in the video for 'Cardigan', as she desperately clings to her piano in the middle of the ocean…

Once we get into the lyrics, we see that our mystery muse has a vinyl shelf, and our suspect also likes to collect vinyl:

"I love vinyl and I've got a lot of vinyl, but I'm more of a t-shirt collector."

Matty has also historically had roommates: he lived with his bandmates for a while, and he lived with George in London for a time, and later, with Sam Burgess-Johnson.

The first thing to strike me while listening was actually this line, but the way Taylor sings it makes me hear it this way:

And I chose you (pause) The 1 (pause) I was dancing with in New York

If this is a reference to 'The 1', well, that song almost certainly references Robbers lyrics!

And speaking of dancing in New York… that's quite reminiscent of Cardigan: "Dancin' in your Levi's, drunk under a streetlight" and "Your heartbeat on the High Line" (the latter being a New York landmark).

We have splashing wine, and a man who has a heavy association with wine, to the point that it became part of his persona, stagecraft, and silhouette circa 2013-2014 (as well as his clumsiness)

"The rust that grew between telephones" is reminiscent of Matty's lost verse from "Slut!": "Plus 44 on an American phone"

"Sobbing with your head in your hands" reminds me of this performance from late 2014 (just after they allegedly broke up) which ends with Matty literally sobbing with his head in his hands (jump to the last ten seconds of the video to see it). He would go on to describe what happened that night as being partially due to "girl stuff"…

Lastly, and this is admittedly, a strange one. But that sort of foreboding synthy undercurrent throughout the song… reminds me so much of a pitched-down version of the same sound from the Real World version of 'I Like America' (compare them here and here).
