sometimes being a woman is just *sigh* too. much.
we don’t get bodily autonomy, victim advocacy, protection from domestic abuse/murder/rape, end to pay disparity, or, you know, any of the myriad things that would make women’s lives just marginally better like a fucking light hearted, dramatic, beautiful tv show
Also let's stop saying "why do gay shows get canceled"
Gay shows dont. mlm get to see their content continued further and get to see it through multiple seasons. Sapphics and specifically lesbians do not.
It is lesbian and sapphic shows that get canceled. Ik we use gay as a general term, but in these instances it's always lesphobia and targeted at women/girls. Ofc.

first kill fully deserved the Buffy treatment. Five seasons with increasing budgets and a five season spin-off and a feature film
Netflix really let Imani Lewis have a full speech about how society hates teenage girls/women and then said, yeah, she’s right, and I’ll show you how

"It says a lot about the new far-right supermajority [on the Supreme Court] that the sphere of personal privacy and dignity travels with men wherever they go, from the locker room to the middle of the football field, whereas there is quite literally nowhere a women can hide, once she is pregnant, from the state’s interest in regulating her if it so chooses. For a man, church is everywhere, and for a woman, there is no sanctuary."

First Kill is the only show that has even come CLOSE to any of these MLM shows.
It’s not a comedy but it has VIBES
I ADORED Our Flag Means Death
Good Omens was a delight
I cherish What We Do in the Shadows
But, still, I must ask: where are my historical / paranormal / heretical TV comedy-romances about LESBIANS!?!?!?
WHERE ARE THE WLW????

First Kill isn't even bad, enough with all of the "it may be a horrible piece of shit but it's OUR horrible piece of shit!!!" Like it's a good show. It's fun and campy and sweet. Stop conceding to straight people just because they can't accept anything less than perfect queer media to be allowed in mainstream spaces. Like it's lesbian Romeo and Juliet + monsters with a low budget, what more do you want?

the CGI may not be great but the Shambler that broke into the Burns house was DISGUSTINGLY juicy.
so i’m almost done with season 1 of first kill and despite its flaws i’m honestly enjoying it so much, but i can’t help but notice how little netflix actually gave this show.
i knew it really wasn’t getting much before the show came out but like. it didn’t get its own official instagram account. the official netflix US instagram account hasn’t posted about it being out yet. it’s gotten a FRACTION of the promotions that other lgbtqia+ shows have gotten. you can tell that the budget for it wasn’t very high (the cgi is pretty awful for a netflix production ngl). and all of that is really making me upset.
this is a show about a monster hunter (who happens to be a Black girl!!!) and a vampire who fall in love. and they’re both lesbians. and it was created by female-led team and the source material was written by a queer woman and you can tell that it was created by women and queer people for women and queer people. the fact that this show hasn’t been promoted nearly enough just. it makes me so angry, y’all.
please watch first kill!! keep talking about it online!!! we need to make sure production companies understand that there is an audience and demand for wlw shows. sapphic stories deserve to be in the spotlight just as much as heterosexual and mlm stories.

Grateful to everyone who suggested shows with WLW but I still maintain my original point which is that no WLW-centered show has the joie de vivre, the panache, or the simple heartwarming humour of the MLM shows we’ve gotten recently.
I ADORED Our Flag Means Death

I cherish What We Do in the Shadows
But, still, I must ask: where are my historical / paranormal / heretical TV comedy-romances about LESBIANS!?!?!?

how dare Taika Waititi make two shows in a row where the love interest believes himself to be abandoned by his lover at the specified time and place of their rendezvous and then is forced to continue on their planned journey ALONE and HEARTBROKEN????
this is Cruel and Unusual punishment, sir
