A/N: So uhhh, this was new for me. Another scene I’ve always pictured for them in the summer after the war. I think it would be extremely difficult for both Harry and Ginny to actually talk for a while, which would lead to other issues. I think the vision of Harry dead, on top of everything else, would haunt her quite a bit. She was mentally prepared for the possibility/likelihood of it happening following their DH kiss, but facing the reality (and then him coming back) would make it hard for her to reconcile him being alive.

He slept in the Burrow’s attic a lot that first summer after the war, usually when staying at Hogwarts was too much for him. Plus, Ron insisted they be together as much as possible - he supposed months on the run together and everything that happened during the Battle made him want to keep an eye on everyone. He didn’t blame him.

He found out rather quickly that “together” certainly had its limits. For example, he definitely didn’t want to stay together in Ron’s room, what with the sound of Ron and Hermione doing that. No amount of privacy charms could make him forget those noises.

So, the thankfully now ghoul-free attic it was. Which was how he found himself one early July evening, staring out the small half-moon window watching the thunderstorm. The loud bangs of thunder and lightning were less scary than what awaited him once he closed his eyes.

A small noise alerted him and Ginny poked her head inside the room, then upon seeing him, she entered and closed the door softly behind her. They hadn’t talked much, not really. Not about the important stuff he said he would, like horcruxes and pensieve memories. It was still too hard, too guilt-ridden.

She was wearing a soft, oversized Harpies shirt and short cotton shorts, her hair tied up in some loose bun. In a word: beautiful. Captivating would have also been appropriate.

Her face was set, determined, eyes blazing. Whatever she intended, he knew he didn’t stand a chance. She slowly walked over and sat on the bed.

Vaguely realizing he hadn’t said anything yet, he attempted to say something, but she quickly shushed him with a finger to his lips. His skin tingled underneath.

Another flash of lightning lit up her face and he caught the hint of fear and grief behind her eyes. It hurt every time he saw the grief there, knowing his part in it. He reached a hand to hers and she caught it and clung onto it.

“You’re alive,” she breathed softly. A fresh wave of guilt for the things he’d done and still couldn’t talk about washed over him. He rubbed a small circle across her hand with his thumb and nodded.

She gave a brief jerk of her head more in affirmation to herself, and he wasn’t sure she believed him. Her face set again and the determined look was back. “I need you to show me.”

“What?” He asked, utterly confused for a moment. He studied her face, the flicker of nervous uncertainty masked by resolve and a flash of something that looked like desire made her meaning clear. His stomach dropped. What she was suggesting was preposterous, potentially disastrous.

“Show me,” she insisted, bringing his hand to her chest, settling it over her heart. He could feel the beating of it and his stomach calmed, then he felt the swell of her breasts and his mind short-circuited. Her eyes were almost pleading, and he knew there was no miscommunication about what she was implying.

She didn’t wait for him to respond as she snaked her hand around the back of his head and pulled him to her, their lips crashing together. It was the tonic he somehow forgot he lived on.

He’d never quite appreciated just how soft her lips were before, and how wonderful it felt to kiss her. His other hand snaked up to her hair and it took everything he had to not succumb willingly and completely to her.

He begrudgingly broke off to make sure, but her look silenced him.

“Every…,” she sniffed and took a deep breath to try and compose herself, “every time I close my eyes you’re dead. And I…I need to know that this you …the one I can touch…isn’t. I need you to show me, Harry.”

He looked in her eyes, studying the golden flecks in her chocolate brown for any sign of doubt, but found none. He understood it deeply, the need to discern nightmares from reality.

“I’m not…I haven’t,” he took a deep breath, steadying himself. “I’ve never done this before…”

She gave a small smile. “Me either.” She then rested her forehead against his, like she always used to do after a particularly enjoyable snog, and he surrendered.

Their lips were on each other again quickly. Strikes of lightning and thunder continued, masking their first time together. Time full of reverence and proof. Time spent together wholly - to drive away ghosts, to discover who they were now and who they could possibly be again.

after the call ends he probably walks back to your bedroom and falls asleep again since the encounter with your family member completely drained him of energy

and introverts have to recharge after being social and engaging with people

also the whole entire situation probably shook with him a lil

after he wakes up again he walks into the kitchen where you are and hugs you from behind

so jay and hee decided to compete and see who'd get to the phone first (since it was in the living room)

and so they ran to get it

knocking a lot of stuff over in the process

and scaring jake who went to the bathroom earlier

then jay (who was leading btw) tripped over a random bag on the floor and hee then tripped over him

when they got back to the kitchen they were a lil bruised up so you decided to take care of them first and just let the call go through

they both had some light bruises and jay somehow managed to also get a few scratches

so he was bleeding a bit

he was being extra

so for like 15 minutes you're talking to that family member while jungwon just listens

and while that's happening his thought process is like..

even though you, the members, and the staff were making sure he was taking care of himself

so you're just hanging around the dorms

helping the members around the house and checking up on ni-ki from time to time

at this specific moment you were cooking dinner with jay

so you kind of just left your phone with ni-ki in their bedroom (where he's resting)

and you got a call from one of your friends or smth (maybe like your roommate??)

so ni-ki called you to let you know

and he was like: „Y/NNNNNN!!!!"

you're obviously concerned like ??? what's wrong?? is everything okay??? is ni-ki okay??? my child why are you yelling so much???

and you bolt from the kitchen to the bedroom

and when you run through the door

you stub your toe on a dresser or something

and you start cursing in your language

and ni-ki hears it all

and even though you're in pain

he can't stop laughing

cause he's kinda evil >:)

then after he stops laughing at you he's like: are you okay? ://

and you are eventually

fortunately no toes were broken that day

then he asks you what you were saying

and if you could teach him all those words

so you're like should i? should i not? and you eventually do (bad idea lol)

let's just say you got a beating from all his hyungs after he wouldn't stop cursing in your language

but it did take them a while to find out what all those words ni-ki is saying mean

so this child would probably teach them these words for fun

and would tell them that it means like 'i love you' and 'have a great day' or smth

but he would always laugh whenever they said any of them

and it was somewhat suspicious

which resulted in jungwon searching it up

and nearly then he nearly beat you with a pan later

uhhh the one right down the middle is from a time someone dragged a knife down her back? i dont remember if this happened in a fic, but it happened regardless from one of her crazy adventures.

the ones on her shoulder blades(?) are from the multiple fics where the reader has wings and has them cut or ripped off- and if not that its from when she's shapeshifted wings for herself? i posted a lil comic about that once you should be able to check her tag or something. but yeah! somethin' like that.

the big one on her lower back is from an onward fic where she fell through the floor and got like. stabbed by a giant plank of wood, and i distinctly remember this one because it was one of the first times i'd used the idea that she can ''recharge'' or heal in sunlight :)

the one down the middle (from her chest to below her belly button? u cant see it too well cuz of the chest one but its from this one really gorey creepy ass MTT/reader on ao3 where the y/n was like. disected??? idk but she got her HEART ripped out and shit, it was weird, but it stuck w/ me so its been one of her scars for however long

the one under her left boob is another stab wound from... i think? tmnt? i forget if it was tmnt or creepypasta, but im pretty sure creepypasta usually does stuff lower.

speaking of, the one on her right side is from a couple different times she was stabbed in creepypasta (mostly by jeff, probably) it doubles as where she was hurt by the wood in the onward thing

the one on her right shoulder and the two scratches are from her own lil adventures, especially the one on her shoulder its another one of those common injury scar things.

you can only kind of see it but the little one on her left side is from where she had one of her kidneys stolen by eyeless jack in creepypasta, because of course thats happened before, cmon now. its regenerated by now, but the scar persists none the less.

the one her thigh and the one on her shoulder are both from creepypasta fics, both were jeff x readers i think? the one on her shoulder she got at the same time she was stabbed in the side i think, it was from this scene were fuckin, jeff was goin' nutts and attacked her or something? and the one on her thigh was just another common-injury scar from that fandom idk

uhh the two bite marks were from when she was attacked by either one of the creepypastas that have sharp teeth or it was some kind of monster from somwhere idk they aren't from fics i dont think tho

and then the self harm scars is because of how often the author writes y/n as depressed (usually as a vent or something) and therefore the y/n may cut and its usually hurt/comfort or something similar. i figure a few are from herself too, because of common injury OR because she was kind of experimenting with pain and getting hurt and sharp things when she was first getting used to haveing a Body and the likes

the mouth one is from a jeff x reader where jeff cuts a smile in the reader's face. i didn't wanna give her the full smile because of recognizability, but i figured she could have little ones at the corner of her mouth instead.

the one around her leg is from a bear trap, it wasn't in a fic i just figure yeah she probably got caught in one at some point, thats just a ray thing to do

aaand the last one is from [aNOTHER jeff x reader] by @/littlebitoffanfic (they're work is just really good anyway) where the reader gets hurt and the jeff feels guilty ands its this angsty hurt/comfort, but yknow

You know despite thinking about these two all the time the moment I’m asked for specific thoughts on them I’m like UHHH.. UHHghguh thheeyy.. theyre frrien;dds;ds... thweyy love e ac;;hother;; SOOOO;OO MUChhghgh.... THeyRE BESTFRIen;dss;; BEALSe,..... FBDSJFKS BUT DEspite that.. here’s a headcanon dump under the cut of whatever came to mind dskjfh sorry if I am repeating myself haha 

Layton didn’t actually think about the reality of what he agreed to when Luke became his “apprentice”… mostly that he didnt think to clear room for him until he was actually in his office and Hershel awkwardly had to move a bunch of books and papers for Luke to be able to sit and have space. He hasn’t actually interacted with kids as young as Luke on a consistent basis until this point so at the start there’s a lot of “oh yeah kids need xyz”. Emmy was a big help with this as she did NOT take kindly so having babysitting duties somehow become a part of her assistant work (not that she doesn’t love Luke!) and makes sure the Prof knows he better step up and do what he promised when he agreed to let Luke tag along! Which led to him stocking up on snacks, keeping more child friendly books/activities around, making sure things Luke would need were actually within reach and of course just making sure there was space carved out for him in his office. This bleeds out into his actual home as well - when he’s caught unprepared for Luke to spend the night and he ends up just shoving books and papers off his bed so Luke has room to sleep too. After the six months or so he’s much better prepared and turned his “guest room” back into a guest room instead of storage space for all his Stuff. And no, Hershel will never learn his lesson with this. Every kid he adopts he will have a mad scramble because he’s like Oh Shit! Gotta have ROOM for the kids I take in sadkjhfsdfb

Building off that last one - Luke is pretty anxious about being useful when he first started being Layton’s apprentice. Hershel saw this more as he enjoyed Luke’s company and he was happy to have him around and teach him what he could, but Luke took it very seriously. He was rushing around cleaning, organizing and dogging the Professor’s every step for a bit. Takes some assurance that he’s not going to like, not be allowed to come over if there’s nothing to do that day... but he does eventually hit a much smoother helping and just hanging out balance

Hershel has a “teacher voice” that he almost never uses outside of class, but occasionally slips out - but it absolutely always catches Luke off guard. Like oh right! You’re a teacher… almost forgot. ESPECIALLY effective if Luke is making trouble, that gets him looking real sheepish real fast...

Luke didn’t like tea until the Professor started making it for him. He’d only ever tried more herbal or black teas before but Hershel made an educated guess that sweeter, fruitier teas would appeal and bought those instead. Luke took his duty of learning to make tea Properly very seriously, practicing at home and tossing quite a few pots right in the trash after Hershel tries to be polite but he couldnt quite grimace his way through the first batch Luke tried to make… 

Luke keeps a lot of stuffed animals and they end up kind of everywhere… you can find a teddy bear in his office, pretty much every room of the house, the laytonmobile… other professor’s have found teddies in lecture halls much to their initial confusion..

Building off the last one - Luke quickly becomes known around Gressenheller. Lots of other faculty and students start to recognize him and Luke’s made a few friends - sometimes even sits in on Hershel’s lectures and takes very dutiful notes (and teddies get returned directly to Layton’s office with a smile and gentle reminder to let his boy know he should keep an eye on his things lest they get lost!) 

Luke really isn’t a fan of mess, so Hershel’s disorganized office and living space drive him a little nuts. He cleans up after him constantly despite Hershel assuring him it isn’t necessary! Really! - They do at least come to ONE agreement that Hershel can ONLY stack books on the floor if they’re NO TALLER than Luke himself after a stack topples over on him one time…. (and Luke will continue cleaning up after him well until adulthood, chiding him all the while. It’s a point of contention.) 

Piggyback rides are a 50/50 success rate because of Hershel’s hat… if Luke isn’t asleep with his head down on his shoulder he’s usually got a hand on the brim so he doesn’t accidentally knock it over craning his neck to see something past it. and he is absolutely NOT allowed to eat anything while he’s up there.

Hershel teaches Luke how to tie his ties and bowties… sooomeetimmess Luke feigns forgetting how to do it because he just thinks it looks much better when the Professor ties it for him. Layton knows better but indulges him anyways. 

Luke is a total baby when he gets sick. He hates being sick and gets really grumpy and fussy… despite knowing its mostly just theatrics Hershel still privately gets pretty worried whenever Luke’s feeling ill. On the other hand it’s basically impossible to get Layton to rest when he’s unwell. Luke basically has to bully him to do more than just drink herbal teas and actually Take Medicine and Take A Nap. If HE has to take the nasty cough syrup then so do YOU! 

Both of them have spells of sleeping rather poorly... (they’re bound to have nightmares after some of the stuff they’ve been through). It becomes a bit of a late night ritual to meet up in the kitchen for some tea, snacks and conversation until they’re able to get some sleep. This continues on for the rest of the puzzle family and somehow every so often, everyone is up at 3am for tea and cookies and its very pleasant...

it took me awhile to pick one, because I really don’t write angsty endings all that often? I love some good angst, but I need comfort with my hurt. that being said, there are a couple, and I think of all of them the angstiest is probably “out of reach,” a Kidnap Dads fic set right after the Kinslaying where Maglor watches Maedhros absolutely fall apart. though there’s a couple other good candidates, too.

do you write crossovers? if so what is the craziest one you’ve written?

on occasion! I don’t really count intra-Legendarium crossovers as “crossovers,” though (and neither does AO3 if you sort by only crossovers, apparently!). the ~craziest~ is probably that MarioKart/Hunger Games crossover fic I wrote for a friend as a joke. it is very old and I will not be linking it, lmao.

have you ever received hate on a fic?

yeah, every now and again. usually it’s someone being upset that I’m not as much of a Feanorian apologist as them?? which is wild bc I am definitely a Feanorian apologist, lmao. MayaMarkova my nemesis </3

uhhh probably something saved in the bowels of my Google Drive that has never seen the light of day. I try really hard not to post things I don’t intend on finishing. but right now I guess I’m most worried about not following through on Roads Go On and Moonlight, just because I’ve shifted focus to the Silm and it’s harder to get inspiration to write for LOTR and the Hobbit!

I definitely feel confident writing dialogue and emotion!

action scenes are difficult, I just don’t know what to say!! and I can get so caught up in the ~feelings~ of it all that I forget to describe anything else...

what are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

ok wow so I DO have opinions on this. if the character is shifting into another language, I’ll sometimes put the dialogue into italics (aka, if a native Quenya speaker switches to Sindarin for a few sentences, or just a word or two, the Sindarin will be in italics). other times I’ll just mention the language change in the dialogue tag. BUT if I’m writing a native Quenya speaker who uses a word in Quenya, that will NOT be italicized, because for the character the language has not changed. so like, I wouldn’t write, “Thank you, vanimelda,” because it’s implied that the “thank you” was also in Quenya, and I as the writer was just ~translating~ it to English for the reader’s benefit. It would be “Thank you, vanimelda.” The Quenya word would just be “untranslated.”

BUT if the character was speaking English and then called someone a nickname in Quenya, i.e. in a Maglor-in-the-modern-day story, then I WOULD italicize it. “Thank you, mellon.” - because mellon is a shift out of the “base” language. does that make any sense???

it’s also a matter of aesthetics, tbh.

Why did you choose your URL?

Short version is that Herenya is a translation of my name into Tolkien elvish, and, in theory, I write things lol

Yes! It takes me ages to do them sometimes, but I love tag games. Every now and then there’s one I don’t do, and usually that’s just because I’m too stressed out that day and then I forget about it.

first creation and most recent creation of 2020: my first creation was technically strike a chord, even if I didn’t actually publish it first (I was having issues with appearing in tags and I didn’t have any followers so I deleted it until I had some traction OOPS) and my most recent is cream & suga! so I started with yoongi and ended with yoongi! I guess that’s consistency for you

one of your favorite creations from 2020: oh, wow. this is a hard one. I think I’d have to say a human touch, because it was the one I struggled with the most- so when I finally finished it, it felt SO good. and everyone’s been so lovely, I can’t help but feel happy that I’ve created something that people enjoy.

a creation you’re really proud of: burning bright. I wrote it across two days and it was hard going but it was fun and I’m really proud of how it turned out, and I hope erin still likes it fdslkjdsf

a creation that took you forever: a human touch. it technically took months to write; I got blocked during it and had to work on other things, and I had to rework a lot of stuff. so glad I got it done and I had people supporting me!!

a creation you think deserved more notes: idk about “deserved”, but I really loved writing finding home and I think the premise is cute!

a creation you made that breaks your heart: wow most of my creations are marshmallow fluff so this is a hard one HMM.... things you said after it was over, probably. covid has led to me seeing my friends far less than normal and I was feeling really isolated early this year, and I ended up thinking about an old friend who I loved dearly and fell out of touch with. which is where the feelings in this fic come from. so there’s a lot of heartache around that, for me personally

Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you’d expected?: To be honest I’m sort of surprised that word count is as high as it is, but “expected” is also a tricky word in 2020. I went into this year hoping to get out of this writing funk I’ve been in for a while. Then pandemic! So. Yanno. My expectations suddenly reverted to “ehhh just whatever you can manage is good” so seeing the equivalent of a slim novel is surprising. Though I do acknowledge that it’s propped up a bit by my having had some old nearly-complete WIPs from back in the day and just polished ‘em off and posted ‘em this year. An assist from past-me!

What’s your own favorite story of the year?: I totally agree with @notesoflore about hating to pick favorites, but Black Sheep was one I worked on for a long time and put a lot of myself into, and I really enjoyed the process. Like, I will never forget having sat next to @schaudwen​ on the NYC subway while she beta-read parts of it. Sitting next to someone on public transit while they read your porn? Actually more awkward than reading porn on public transit yourself! XD

Did you take any writing risks this year?: Depending how you look at it... One that he would call his brother was something of a risk, in that it involved some kinda experimental poetry stuff, and I hadn’t seriously written poetry since college. And I think it came out pretty good? From another angle, the whole bb Thor series really surprised me because like. It’s kidfic. Relatively fluffy kidfic. I am not known for either of those things! But people kept askin’ me stuff so I guess I was doing something right with it.

Do you have any fanfic or profic goals for the new year?: I STILL NEED TO GET OUT OF THIS WRITING FUNK. Also I have several WIPs that I am determined to finish, or at least make serious progress on. I just really want to write more again. 

Most popular story of the year? Black Sheep seems to be the clear winner. Which doesn’t really surprise me, since it was the longest and had the trifecta of smut, feels, and fun plot stuff. OTOH, intergenerational incest tends to be a harder sell. So, hey, I guess it did good. 

Story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion: God Used Me as a Hammer. First off, I feel permanently clever for stealing that title from Tom Waits. But moreover, this is one of the ones that had been stashed away in my folders. Coming back to it was like a time capsule of an earlier age of fandom thought, and I feel like it does some really neat things with some subjects that seem to be largely ignored or forgotten these days. So it’s not surprising that it was overlooked, but I fuckin love it. 

Most fun story to write: Probably La petite mort. Just. Extreme size kink. Kink is always fun to write, and I particularly always enjoy some of the different angles that we have available to us in Thor fandom, like pulling from mythology or comics. And thinking of the fun and tasty things Loki could do with pocket-sized Thor? Just banging out a couple quick, smutty ficlets without overthinking everything? Yes. Good. 

Most unintentionally telling story: Uhhh I should probably not say this for fear of spoilers but The Valkyrie on the Corner has a happier-than-expected ending, to the point where @incredifishface commented on a beta copy, “who are you and what have you done with illwynd.” And that’s telling because... idk, I really hate that I am doing all these happy endings these days, but with the state of canon, I just... can’t make things even more depressing, yanno? there is just a baseline level of things being okay in canon that i need before I can start breaking shit in fic, and I would love to get back to writing horrible dark angsty stuff again. Please, canon. Shape up and work with me, here. 

(Alternatively, if it’s broken in canon but not adequately dealt with, I will absolutely break it harder just to put the pieces in a well-lighted display case and look closely at the fractures. But that’s another topic for another time.)

Biggest disappointment: fuckin covid for making “yay i finished anything at all” a badge of victory

Biggest surprise: I might have to say The way out is through. Just because I’d had that one in my folders for years also, and I’d kinda just written it off as a crummy idea that would never amount to anything. But then I got to really look at why it wasn’t working, got some opinions from readers I trust, and it turned out pretty good in the end!

there's a miraculous ladybug social media AU that i started that was going to be really funny, but i fell into the ML fandom really quick and then fell out almost as quick and so i don't know if i can get the vibes back enough to finish it

maybe i'll rewatch the show once s4 finishes airing and it'll come back to me, who knows

i think i'm good at like, inserting little bits of humour into my narration to keep it engaging, and recently i think i've been getting better at imagery and metaphor

well first of all i'm not good at seeing longer projects through to the end lol

and in general my fics tend to be more vibes than plot, which is good sometimes but also... sometimes plot would be good

18) what are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

i mean... is there a good reason for it? if yes, sure, if i can make sure it's accurate (linguistically, culturally, and also for the character). if not, why would i?
