Another DBH-Adjacent (sort of) Game Recommendation (conditional - this game is definitely not for everyone): Twelve Minutes
Twelve minutes is a non-linear mystery thriller in which the main character finds themselves repeating the same day over and over again and must discover how to break the cycle (also this game should have some serious TWs but I'll refrain from putting them here because of spoilers if anyone wants to actually play it):
Similarities:
*Astonishing number of outcomes, but you still find yourself feeling like there aren't enough
*Takes about ten hours to get a real ending (impressive for Twelve minutes, considering the time loop is so short in duration)
*Soundtrack slaps (reminds me of Hanz Zimmer or Zack Hemsey)
*Arguably just sloppy plot holes leave me obsessively pondering the game and continuing to puzzle out its mysteries for hours
*High-quality voice actors and meticulous design, with lots of little details that enrich the setting (although there are still a bunch of issues)
*Engrossing mystery and a rewarding challenge
Differences/Pitfalls of Twelve Minutes (***slight spoilers follow***):
*Only play this if you are both open-minded to crack plots and have a strong stomach to a degree that's bordering on morally reprehensible (half joking...)
*This game also requires a LOT of patience; DBH keeps up a fast pace, but Twelve Minutes will really only interest you if you're truly willing to get into the headspace of the character and be driven absolutely bonkers by the end, yet refuse to give up (I got to see the credits roll, but didn't follow my instincts and looked up the achievements instead of persisting to unlock the full mystery... somewhat regret this)
Overall, I think that I really like it... but I still kind of hate it.
If anyone has played it or does let me know! I'm dying to discuss my thoughts about it. I interpreted the ending differently than most people and I'm curious what others think.

We're already a month into 2023? Wow. Okay. Time to write a favorites post.
Except... well, I honestly don't have a lot of new stuff to talk about. Continuing a theme from last year, this month was mostly just about hanging with my besties and playing games with and for each other. I had several sim weddings. Watched most of Deus Ex: Mankind Divided. And played a bit of Deus Ex: Breach, which was stylish but not really fun. (At least not for me. 😆) I also started a game called 12 Minutes, which is quite intriguing, but I haven't gotten very far yet.
I decided to not set a reading goal or TBR this year, because I'm tired of putting pressure on myself to prove my worth online through the media I consume. Reading used to feel like a magical escape. But over time, and with the added weight of becoming an author and social media... contributor (?), reading started to feel like a chore or responsibility. I felt pressure to set big goals and keep up with the latest hits, instead of reading simply for pleasure.
I want to engage with stories and creative media in a blissful and personal way. That's not to say that I find no value in posting about reading and books. And I intend to continue to do so, myself, especially when I can talk about stories I loved or found solace in.
Music Favs: Slow Burn (Kacey Musgraves), Wonderland (CHVRCHES), Let It Go (Fauxliage), No Fear (Abra Moore), Fingertips (Emilíana Torrini), Night Drive (Jimmy Eat World), Secrets and Lies (Jonatha Brooke).

Sometimes I really want to read a short summary of what to expect from a game… and thankfully people can also submit their summaries of games they played and help me (and others) find games that cater to their interests!

what to expect from 12 MINUTES
Unique thriller, point-and-click based game, which uses a unique point of view all along the game [the camera is on the ceiling].
The main characteristic of this game is its time loop. In each one you learn a bit more about the characters and the situation you are into, activating new interactions and dialogue options in the next loop. The information is acquired in an iterative, but not boring form.
To end this game, you need to find out the truth and solve it.
As trigger warnings: assassination, blood, cancer reference, incest reference.
Despite living in a constant loop of time, and the same event happens over and over again, you can modify them in each loop to see dire variations, providing you new pieces of information to solve the main enigma.
The puzzles are quite logical, and doing the same thing, in different loops, can give you new key information, ending up in different outcomes that give you more and more vital info to end the game.
Despite giving the impression of being a short game, it’s not: it usually requires around 6 hours to finish it. Which seems to be a lot of hours for a 5-in-game minutes event stuck in a time loop.
  ——- Plot? ——-
You start as a nameless man coming home to your small apartment, where your wife greets you warmly with a candlelit dessert and a surprise. A few minutes later, a cop kicks down the door, accuses your wife of being a murderer, and strangles you to death. After this event, you reset the time loop with the objective of understanding each of the chars in the scene, their deeper motivations, and the truth about this accusation. The ultimate goal is to fix the wrongness of the truth you find after several time loops.
——- Gameplay? ——-
Classical point-and-click game, with social interaction since you interact with chars questioning them about elements and events. You always have 5 in-game minutes to get new information and build up the truth
——- Characters? ——-
The main char is you, playing as the husband. There is also your wife, and the cop.
 ——- LGBT? ——-
None. Under certain circumstances, the cop can ask the wife if she has a girlfriend. Which is a nice detail: the char is not assuming her as heterosexual inherently.
——- Sadness level? ——-
It’s a low level of sadness.
——- Happy ending? Deaths? ——-
It’s a neutral/decent ending for a thriller.

Andy played 12 Minutes and sat down with Becky for a special bonus minisode review.
Developed by Luís António and published by Annapurna Interactive, 12 Minutes is an interactive thriller about a man trapped in a time-loop. A sinister cop breaks into his home and attacks him and his wife, every 12 minutes the loop resets, and it is down to you to unravel the mystery of why this cop is tormenting them, and hopefully break the loop once and for all.
Andy and Becky get into the game’s time-loop mechanic, the way it relates to the games puzzles, the performances, the plot, and the now infamous plot twist that leaves Becky speechless. Please note, the review contains a spoiler warning before revealing any of the late game secrets.
Starring James McAvoy, Daisy Ridley, and Willem Dafoe (finally returning to video games after having to work with David Cage), the game
The game was initially released on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S, day one on Game Pass. It has since been released on Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 and 5.
