wada sez: For the fourth anniversary of the Transformers: Mosaic project, a very special strip was posted: with a creative team consisting entirely of creatives who did official work for IDW Publishing. Each of the seven characters appearing in the strip was illustrated by a different artist/colorist pair; the credits were given alphabetically, but in the comments, Ed Pirrie gave a list matching the characters to the artists—apparently taken from somewhere on Facebook? Anyway, some of the assignments here hold particular significance. Guido Guidi was a fill-in artist on Last Stand of the Wreckers, which featured Springer, and he’d also drawn the character in All Hail Megatron. Joana Lafuente colored the Perceptor-starring story “Lost & Found”. Milne and Perez illustrated the much-maligned Spotlight: Arcee. Josh Burcham colored Last Stand of the Wreckers, featuring Kup. And finally, Robby Musso's first IDW work was Spotlight: Ultra Magnus. In terms of the writing, most of the interest is in Hot Rod’s thoughts; he’s the only one who refers to Prime as “Optimus”, foreshadowing his own later rise to the rank of Prime. Furthermore, his assertion that he’ll “make this right” is an oblique acknowledgement of a very common interpretation of Prime’s death—that Hot Rod himself was responsible, having interfered with his fight with Megatron. The next strip after this one was also themed after The Transformers: The Movie, so check back tomorrow for that!

A/N: I wanted to contribute to Jake Lockley fluff on tumblr but I wanted to add my own lil twist. Based on this little headcanon I thought about hehe.
Warnings: None really, maybe a little suggestive elements.
Word Count: 607 words.
Summary: Jake loves to draw and you have ideas.

On the outside, your husband Jake Lockley looked like an unapproachable man. People were terrified of him, even if they didn’t want to admit it. But to you he was different, still himself but more open and relaxed. His cold hard exterior was nothing compared to the soft mushy interior that you had cracked over the past few years of knowing him.
Jake loved to draw. He carried around a little sketchbook that was gifted by you for your anniversary and left pencils everywhere he went, in his car, his jacket pockets, the couch and even the bed. The first time he drew you, you were both lounging on the couch and the TV was running.
You were watching one of your favorite movies and your eyes were wide as you popped popcorn into your open mouth. A few minutes into the movie, you turned to Jake, wondering why he was so silent. You were so into the movie that you didn’t hear the little pencil scratches coming from beside you.
Jake twisted away from you, refusing to show you what he was doing. You tickled him and begged him to show you what he was doing. He stuck his tongue out at you and you pouted, poking him until he showed you what he was doing.
“It's just a silly drawing.” he murmured, caving in and handing you a small piece of paper.
“Jake, shut up, this is beautiful. You know how to draw?” you say, your eyes tearing up as you trace the shaded lines of your face on the paper. Jake nodded, not meeting your eyes.
Once his little secret got out, he never stopped drawing. Like a child who was handed a sharpie, the world was his canvas. Sometimes, you would catch him drawing little things on your wooden dining table which you would stare at for hours when he was out on long missions, tears dripping down your face.
His favorite thing to draw was you. He could draw you from pure memory alone, which meant that his sketchbook was filled with pretty obscene things too, which made your face profusely heat up. Then, he started to draw on you. He would take a pen and tattoo you with random doodles that made you giggle.
One day when he was doing this, you had an epiphany. You went out to the nearest Indian store and bought a packet of maruthani cones, explaining to Jake what they were and how they worked.
“I mean, I haven’t had maruthani done in a long time and Deepavali is coming soon so, maybe you could do it?” you suggested. Jake’s eyes lit up like a little kid and you showed him a few designs that he agreed to copy from. After a few practice rounds on some paper, he started to slowly apply it to your hand.
Watching him apply it onto your hand was mesmerizing. He did it with amazing accuracy and his hands were so steady, slowly pressing the cone and leaving thin lines of the maruthani on your hand, forming a pattern.
He had his tongue between his teeth, his brows furrowed in concentration, curls flopping onto this forehead. You could’ve watched him for hours and hours. At the end, he signs his initials with tiny letters, hoping you wouldn't have noticed.
“That's a weird way to mark me.” you say, raising your eyebrows.
“You’re the greatest piece of art I have, mi vida.” he says, giving you a kiss.
“I love you.” you smile, admiring his handy work.
“I love you more.” he murmured.
You were so glad that this man was yours to keep.

Translations:
Maruthani: AKA henna. Henna refers to the temporary body art resulting from the staining of the skin from the dyes. After henna stains reach their peak color, they hold for a few days, then gradually wear off.

Weekend Top Ten #607
Top Ten Cameos from Once Upon a Studio
This week was the 100th anniversary of Walt Disney. Not the dude – as well as being dead for a little bit, he was actually born in 1901 so we missed his centenary around about the time we were all watching The Fellowship of the Ring – no, I’m talking about the company he founded with his brother all the way back on October 16th 1923 (sidebar: I always thought it was a bit weird that him and his brother founded the company, but they decided only to name it after Walt; turns out it was originally called “Disney Brothers”, which I guess makes more sense). Anyway, all that’s unnecessary preamble to say that this is as good a week as any to do a big old Disney animation-themed Top Ten.
I was going to do something about Fantasia, but then in one of those last-minute Abby-cuts-Jed’s-tie moments that I’m so fond of – and with a bit of a Homer-esque face slap at missing the obvious connection – it occurred to me that Disney themselves had already handed me the perfect vehicle to celebrate their milestone in the rather charming little short, Once Upon a Studio. The plot of this film sees the various Disney animated characters gather together for a group photo, and as such is a veritable who’s who of Disney history for film nerds such as me. That’s why I’ve decided to pick out my favourite – and perhaps most surprising – cameos.
There’s a lot going on in this little film, which barely runs to thirteen minutes even with acres of credits; the various gags they work in starring different characters, and how those characters interact, is rather joyous and often pretty funny, even if the film itself is incredibly slight and more than a touch hagiographic. But little things, from Encanto’s Luisa carrying the cows from Home on the Range, to Rapunzel smacking Kaa around the head with a frying pan, to Wish’s Asha holding hands with Snow White – Disney’s most recent Princess holding hands with its first ever – add up to a really lovely little watch if you’ve been watching Disney all your life.
And so here we have a very personal list of surprising pop-ups, nostalgic hat-tips, and really just some pretty cool slices of Disney history. See you in 2123.
Oswald the Lucky Rabbit: the original Disney mascot, Oswald languished in obscurity for years, a pub quiz trivia fact for animation historians. He had a minor resurgence in the Epic Mickey videogames, but has been welcomed back into the fold for the centenary with his own brand-new short. Seeing him stood alongside Mickey Mouse in the closing moments might not be revelatory, but it is a wonderful encapsulation of Disney’s long history.
Pete’s Dragon: this is a personal one, which is why it ranks so high, but Pete’s Dragon was one of the films I kept asking to be rented from the video store when I was a little kid. The moment early on when Pete and the Dragon soar overhead as the camera runs through the studio is therefore delightful, but also sets up the fact that this film is definitely going to have some Disney deep cuts.
Dodger: watching Venelope von Schweetz from Wreck-It Ralph careen around corners in her candy car with Dodger from Oliver and Company howling along in the seat beside her, string of sausages around his neck, is another one of those “oh, they’re really going to be picking the obscure characters” moments; whilst Oliver and Dodger are both pretty cool, I do wonder how many kids just flat-out won’t recognise Billy Joel’s crowning cinematic achievement.
Ichabod: y’know, from The Legend of Sleepy Hollow – or, rather, The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad, the two-hander “package” film Disney released in 1949 that featured adaptations of both Sleepy Hollow and The Wind in the Willows. Or maybe you don’t as it’s largely forgotten. Toad himself riding on Aladdin’s Carpet is one thing, but the nice bit of business with Ichabod nearly getting his head knocked off by Goofy’s stepladder is much funnier. IYKYK.
Chernabog: this is the demonic, er, demon who leads an army of ghouls and various other nasties in the none-more-metal conclusion to Fantasia, “Night on Bald Mountain”. And here he is again, the supreme edgelord of the underworld, absolutely terrifying all the pups from One Hundred and One Dalmatans.
Cri-Kee: the little cricket from Mulan is probably both rather obscure and also relatively popular – it’s not like Mulan is some little-know flick from the fifties. But it’s nice to see him represented; his cameo here is a bit blink-and-you’ll-miss-him – he’s very small, after all – and also nicely integrated into Disney’s lore, as he’s having a conversation with Encanto’s Antonio, who, of course, can speak to animals.
Aladar: I think this one’s quite surprising if only because no one ever talks about Disney’s Dinosaur. I mean, there is perhaps a good reason for that; it’s definitely one of the weaker films, although it was incredibly ambitious and experimental (also it’s not as bad as, say, Chicken Little and that annoying little bugger is here too). Anyway, there he is: right at the end – and I’ve tried in general to steer clear of people who only pop up in the final group shot – but the sheer fact that he’s made it into this film at all is something of a triumph.
Wayne and Lanny: who, you might reasonably ask, are Wayne and Lanny? I confess I did have to look up their names, but they are the elves from Disney’s Christmas shorts, Prep & Landing. I mean, they’re not exactly household names (at least in this house), but come on – Disney genuinely stuck two characters from a couple of Christmas-themed TV specials in this thing! How much deeper do you want them to cut?!
George: okay, this one’s at the bottom because again it’s just a bloke stood at the back in the final group shot, and also because I’m not 100% certain it’s the right dude. But I’m pretty sure that we can see George, the main character from the absolutely majestic 2012 short film Paperman – right there, at the back. He’s distinctive because of his thin frame, pointy nose, and the fact that he’s in black and white. It’s a shame his girlfriend Meg isn’t there with him, mind. But again – this is just one of their shorts, albeit a phenomenally good one! Even though it won the Oscar, how many people really, truly think about Paperman on a regular basis? Well, apart from me.
Robin Williams: this one’s special – and, yes, it’s not a character. I think we could all assume the Genie would be here somehow. Other characters have used archive voices when it’s not possible to record new lines from their original artist (pretty sure that’s actually Cliff Edwards’ recording from Pinocchio when we hear Jiminy Cricket singing When You Wish Upon a Star); others have had their voice performers replaced over the years (Jim Cummings might be iconic now as Winnie the Pooh, but even he wasn’t the original voice of the character). With the Genie, there’s even precedent as Dan Castellaneta played the character in both The Return of Jafar and subsequent TV series. But that’s not what Disney did here. No, it appears that they’ve gone back to the vault and found some unused and – as far as I’m aware – previously unheard outtakes or alternate lines that Williams recorded back in 1991 or 1992 for the role, and therefore given us a short snippet of a brand-new Robin Williams performance. What more could you wish for?
So, yes, quite the star-studded ensemble and a fantastic slice of Disney history. And I didn’t even get round to those weird living planes, cars, and trees.
EDITED TO ADD: so it's come to my attention that obviously that's not Pete on the Dragon's back (the Dragon who of course is called Elliot). It's Cody from The Rescuers Down Under. See, this is what happens when you recognise a character but haven't seen a film for over thirty years. I just assumed there must be a bit in the film where live-action Pete got animated, or something. Anyway, I'm leaving it in the paragraph above for integrity's sake, because I don't like re-editing these things after the fact.

Nite & Daye (Snippet #1)
I have no idea what possessed me to finally decide to post a little bit of Nite & Daye but here we are! I want to make a note that other than some very basic editing, the snippets shared are going to be relatively untouched.
Snippet description: Daye decides to go to a local convenience store where things do not according to plan.
Snippet word count: 607

"Wonderful weather we're having today, yeah?" When Daye looked over at the cashier, he noticed them quickly look away from him.
"Yeah," was all he said in response. He picked up a basket and began making his way through the aisles. There wasn't anything in particular he wanted, maybe something warm for the cooler weather. Or just something to put a little energy into his body.
"I'm gonna go stock things in the back, just yell for me when you're ready to check out, okay?"
"Sure," Daye called out just loud enough for him to be heard. He continued looking at the items, examining the fronts and backs of anything of interest. Daye was almost at the end of one of the aisles, putting something back when the TV in the corner caught his attention.
Of course it would catch his attention. How could it not with who he now watched wave to the cameras and fans alike? He watched the screen as she made her way to a podium, smiling at the crowd before her. He honestly might be sick from her smile alone, as fake as her love for her adoring citizens.
"Thank you all for coming here. As you all may know, the anniversary of the founding of the City of the End is approaching and with it, I want to announce my plans for coming the years," She spoke into the mic as soon as the crowd quieted down. Daye watched for only a moment longer, rolling his eyes as she began her annual speech, promising things that would most likely never come. It was in turning around that Daye realized that the cashier had left the back and was now standing in the aisle with him. He opened his mouth to make a comment about how he was probably going to grab one more thing and check out when the cashier spoke before him.
"I thought you had looked familiar when you walked in!" Daye knew exactly what was going to come next and went to rush past them.
"No," was all he could get out when he moved past, throwing the few items he had in his hands at some random shelf, not bothering to look if they made it.
"Yeah, I knew it! You're Aleah Nouvel's son, aren't you?" Daye felt the cold dread spread throughout his body. This was exactly why he hated leaving the house but for once, he just wanted to enjoy the damn weather. But of course, he wouldn't be able to. After the initial dread left his body, anger began to rise and before he left the store he turned back towards the cashier.
"Listen here. There's a reason Aleah disowned me. So why don't you leave me the fuck alone and we can pretend like you never saw me, hm?" Not expecting such a reaction, the cashier immediately shut up and nodded their head.
"Cool," Daye said as he walked out of the store, irritated that he dumped all those snacks and left empty-handed. He walked a few steps, a few raindrops catching on his dark hair when he realized something that made his irritation grow. He left his fucking umbrella in that store and now due to his outburst and the fact that the cashier recognized him, he couldn't just walk back in and grab it. Ah, fuck it, he thought, pulling the hood up on his jacket to cover his head. He'd just rush home and come back later for it. Hopefully, it would still be there, and considering how old and beat up it looked, he doubted anyone would take it.

Hermione Granger thought she was happy with her life. She had a well-paying job as a Professor at her local university, enjoying teaching passionate young people about Literature, meaning she got to talk about books for the majority of her week. However, her close friends tried setting her up on blind dates, none of which ever went successful and so she remained happy with her single life. And yet, his friends think that a visit to the cinema to watchest the latest crappy scary film is a good idea. Draco Malfoy hated the storm that crowded his brain after the death of his wife. 5. Twinbrook.
I adore the swampy nature of this map, and have located several of my favorite characters on this map, though I very much prefer to keep everything under one map.
I just love the somewhat brooding/melancholic feel of this particular map, it speaks to my soul.
4. Hidden Springs.
For about 6 years, this was my main map and the place all my characters lived.
I know it’s a controversial map that has received a lot of shit-talk over the years, everything from the specific green color making people vomit, to the worst routed map of all the ea maps.
*Shrug*
I like it.
I love the pine-filled nature, mountain and water.
And I never had any issues.
It will forever be my favorite ea map.
