When you hesitated to name a book, afraid of being mocked maybe. Or afraid to be vulnerable, Jason took a shot in the dark. Looking up at the shelves. Looking for something well loved. Something you'd keep where you could reach it whenever you wanted comfort. Something you held close to your heart. That you'd read and reread. Worn but not destroyed. Venerated. It would almost feel like something sacred.

Every lonely kid had that book.

And when he locked eyes on it, he smiled. He got up off the floor and walked across the room, aware that he was being watched. He could feel a prickle of warning. A crackle of anxiety tugging at him. And he forced himself to breathe. Yeah, it was a kiddie book. A whole set of them. But, you liked books with happy endings.

"Convert me?" Jason hummed, "I never really liked fairy tales."

"No?"

"It's kinda hard to worry about chivalry when you live like I did," he said sitting back down- suppressing a pang with difficulty. He hadn't thought about his mom and dad in a long time. He kept them buried. It was easier. To not remember the way cancer had a smell. And the way that without insurance drugs just managed the pain. And his dad drank because it hurt. And because it hurt and he drank he couldn't hold a job. And because he couldn't hold a job he just kept doing crimes.

Books had to have a point. Fairy tales and delicate little "girl books" felt ephemeral and frivolous. Austen. Shelley. Poe. Homer. Christie. All that had a point.

"I'm sorry-"

"It's alright," he said exhaling roughly. It wasn't about him. And when he felt you try to pull back, trembling from the strain he shook his head and sank to the floor. "Don't worry about me, okay. Not right now anyway."

"It hurts-"

"Sometimes," he admitted. "But if I read this for a while maybe I'll forget-"

"You can borrow-"

"I was going to read it to you," he mumbled, cheeks heating. He meant to just come in and start doing it. He'd hoped you'd just curl up with him and doze off.

"Oh."

"Is that okay?" he asked, not sure what to make of your reaction. Or your feelings. They're still a snarl- and mostly self-hatred.

"Yeah," you murmur. "Your voice is nice when you're not being mean."

I saw an ask for the bunny Ghost Au talking about rabbit fur and knitting, it had me thinking about wether the MacTavish family sell their rabbits fur/skins or do something else with them.

I have a head canon that they sell the fur to Akubra (an Aussie hat company that gets most of its Rabbit fur from Europe) and so there are just a bunch of Scottish farmers running around with Akubras. (I find this idea funny)

Also whenever Ghost has worked with Aussie’s there’s definitely a chance he’s seen them being worn. Would he have any strong emotions about them?

After he tells everyone would he look at one and go “is that you dad”?

Ehehehehehehehehe oh I fucking love this. Headcanon accepted. Soap would absolutely own one of these hats too.

He wears it before Ghost reveals himself and is so proud, because he knows the felt came from the fur of one of his rabbits.

Afterwards, he wasn't even thinking. Just knew he wanted a hat and needed to dress nicely, so he tossed it on. He knows he looks good.

Ghost, the little shit that he is, knows his grin is hidden by his mask. Goes wide eyed and quietly whispers "Dad?" While looking at the hat. The entire room goes silent, you could hear a pin drop. The hearts of the 141 collectively break, Gaz snatches it off Soap's head and launches the hat out the door and into the hall.

Ghost is barely able to form words, he's laughing too fucking hard, as he tries to explain that he had a human father, whom he hated.

Price ages another 10 years that day.

(And if anyone looks it up and sees the hats and wants to draw Sudsy boi in one, please I'll give you my first born 🙏)

Domina showing the intricacies of power in Roman society. Harlots is great at showing the divide between classes and the lives of the poorest in the era and the dangers that faced women of that class.

but also hi!! i'm relatively new to the fandom and it's a great place to be. i haven't finished reading all the comics yet but i'm curious to know:

what do you think are the main differences between TV!Dream and Comics!Dream? i've heard so many people claiming that he is incapable of changing, for instance, and though the show does convey his overall rigidity pretty well, i'm not getting the vibe that he's immutable.

also!! it's clear that he feels a lot. which is always funny to me when the corinthian is like yo, try this and maybe you'll feel something for a change but like. he does!!! or i get the impression that he does. he probably feels too much if anything?? all of it simmering just beneath the surface, barely contained. how would you personally analyze his relationship with his own emotions?

I’m sorry I broke your heart—much more heartbreak to come I fear if you haven’t read the comics yet, so I’ll try to keep this as spoiler-free as possible.

I am one of those people who believes the differences between comics!Dream and show!Dream are actually not as big as they are made out to be where it matters, and you will definitely find people who disagree. At the end of the day, we all read it through our own lens and will never be fully objective about it.

The main difference I see is that they filed off the rough edges of the comics a bit to make a new audience sympathise more. It’s very hard to do that with a character who is basically in full arsehole mode for most of the first 40 issues or so, and even then only slowly begins to come out of it (although we can obviously see glimmers of what lies below the surface at the beginning of the comics, too, but it’s far more subtle than in the show). I’ve worked in musical theatre for a over decade of my life and understand a bit about bringing the written word to stage/screen, and some things simply don’t translate well from book to stage/screen, and you have to change it. So my personal opinion is we get a more sympathetic Morpheus and certain changes so the audience can do exactly that—sympathise off the bat. You will lose an audience pretty quickly if they don’t care about the protagonist and the universe he moves in, and you can’t be as nuanced about it as you can be in a written work. We’re talking about streaming services thinking about profits here, even if people don’t want to hear it.

Also: The more you sympathise with a character, the deeper the emotional investment and the more you feel, even if it hurts.

Having said this, I don’t think Morpheus is incapable of change, and I never got where that idea comes from. His biggest flaw is that he believes he cannot change (and even he has moments when he admits he might have). In the introduction to Endless Nights, Neil Gaiman says that he was once asked to describe The Sandman in twenty-five words or less, and famously, it was this (you might have heard it):

“The Lord of Dreams learns that one must change or die, and makes his decision.”

And I think some people might have wrongly taken that for an either/or thing. I don’t want to say too much at this point because I don’t know how much you know (if you’d like spoilers or already know how it ends, let me know, I’ll happily expand on it). Only so much:

He is capable of change, also in the comics. Very obviously so. But just like he denies he has his own story (which also isn’t true), he denies he can change. Or at least he thinks he perhaps cannot change enough (it’s actually hard to write about this without giving everything away, help! 🙈).

As for his feelings: He does feel, but again, it is something he pushes down and will deny himself. Until it bursts to the surface and breaks through, and when that happens, it’s usually with, well, let’s say varying results, and that’s putting it mildly. Personally, I’d say he has problems relating to his feelings, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t feel. Quite the opposite in my view. He holds the collective unconscious—all unprocessed feelings and whatever else floats around in that collective mess, and it’s exactly what he says to the Corinthian in that famous scene: he needs to keep a lid on it and keep that lid firmly closed so all of it doesn’t consume him. But that also means denying himself the feelings that are linked to his own personhood (if you want to call it that). There’s Dream of the Endless, and then there’s Morpheus. And while they’re one and the same and inseparable, Morpheus is also the “point of view”. The character, the person, if you will. And deep down, he craves that personhood so badly. Out of all the Endless, he is the only one who basically collects names because they mean having something beyond his function, which is also mirrored in what he tells Death in “The Sound of her Wings”: he wants something more. He is the only one whose realm is populated with sentient beings (yes, I know Despair has rats, but I think you get my drift). He is desperately lonely and struggles with it. He seeks connection yet denies it to himself. That’s not someone who doesn’t feel.

I don’t know if this answers your questions at all—I was doing the wild “spoiler-free” dance 🤣 But please let me know if you want me to go a bit deeper, I love talking about this stuff.

Foreheads touching like everytime you two would join in a simple slow dance around the kitchen, cold tiles against your feet while you swayed away to your hearts desire. A warm hand holding onto your waist, the other gently lifting yours to the air. Hobie had his eyes almost closed, the softests of smiles on his face, literally feeling the moment.

That until you broke it with a simple yet meaningful "I love you, Bee" and his eyes immediately locked into yours, hand gently pulling you a little closer.

"Wha' did you say, hun?" he asked with dreamy-like eyes, his voice being felt against your face. Of course you giggled at that, you knew how smitten he was to you, but seeing it written all over his face was something else.

"I said I love you," you repeated, cooing your tone to have him melting just like you. Fair play, right? His eyes closed briefly once again, smile growing wider and bodies still swaying, but gentler.

"Say that again, luv" you couldn’t even explain the wild frenzy that tone of voice sent the butterflies in your stomach. "Jus' one more time, need to hear it from ya."

With your heart swelling inside your chest, blood bumping so rapidly that you could hear it in your ears, you gave him your best lovestruck smile repeating the words slowly.

"I love you, Hobie" with giddy smile and sure of your luck to have someone like him by your side, you gladly accepted the tender kiss he gave you.

i feel like i'm in the minority here but i don't ship any characters in bsd and sometimes it's hard to find non-ship content, do you know any safe accounts to follow?

Due to the type of fandom you'll find here, 100% certified non-ship content is pretty rare. There are grey areas though, it depends on what you find is too much for you and how much you can scroll past on the regular. In that sense, my art blog @originalartblog is mainly about Dazai and Chuuya, with the occasional romantic piece, but it's mostly ambiguous relationship skk and canon-inspired jokes and art.

The bsd blogs I keep track of/follow are mostly blogs that have a notable focus on soukoku (romantic, platonic or otherwise), so I can't help much I'm afraid. Some suggestions to keep you afloat:

@justplaggin who reblogs non-ship/platonic/could-be-platonic content and posts official art, but is multifandom.

@bsd-rewatch is an ongoing rewatch of bsd's anime, so there you'll find a compilation of people's posts per episode, with the shipping-focused content tagged as such

@awkwardbsd isn't very active, but has a huge backlog of non-ship bsd content for you to scroll through

@akutagawa-daily, @the-chikyuu-times (<-multifandom) have official art

@popopretty, @nineofscans have translations

Does Ghost sneak meat when he’s due for his period?

Ghost eating meat is absolutely gonna be an issue, because he eats whatever the army serves him. Soap, once he knows Ghost is a rabbit, takes it upon himself to regulate the other man's diet.

This will lead, in a bid to maintain his independence and autonomy, to Ghost sneaking meat like a little gremlin 😈 and then of course, because Soap had been successful in keeping him from eating any meat for a while, the poor bun boy gets sick. Knowing Yoko and Wednesday’s style, they def share each others clothes, jackets, boots etc. Enid feels a little left out and wants to wear their stuff too but she’s allergic to gray, black and dark clothing. She needs colorful clothes to survive!
