BnHA x ATLA:

Midoriya is the Avatar but he didn’t show any affinity for bending AT ALL until he awakened as the Avatar at the age of 14 (Note: Avatar = One For All.)

In this AU the Avatar cycle was never halted by a 100-year sleep. Avatars kept being reborn and quickly hunted down by the Fire Nation. Most were killed before they reached 13. Midoriya managed to survive because it was assumed he wasn’t a bender, and therefore people believed he couldn’t be the Avatar.

Sadly because of the nature of the Avatar, All Might is dead in this AU. He is the last fully realized Avatar, he died over 100 years before Izuku was born. All Might ends up being his spiritual guide. Much like Roku for Aang.

Midoriya was born in a Fire Nation colony of the Earth Kingdom. So he is Earth Kingdom while his childhood best friend, Kacchan, is a Fire Nation military brat.

Of course, Deku and Kacchan still have an unfavorable relationship to start in the AU. Except this time instead of it being because Deku is quirkless, it’s fueled by imperialist supremacy and cultural bias.

Bakugou is a firebender, obviously, but his unique ability to cause explosions is rather rare (think how combustion man was seen as an oddity.) This rare ability combined with the pre-programmed Fire Nation arrogance makes him a snotty little shit and a pain to handle.

Uraraka is an earthbender, she becomes Deku’s first teacher. Her unique ability is close to her gravity power but more closely resembles an earthbender who’s just really good at lifting up rocks and suspending them in the air indefinitely.

Iida belongs to one of the last families of airbenders. Because in this AU the Air Nomad genocide was not 100% successful. The Iida family use airbending to propel themselves while running and are known for their expert air manipulation abilities. He is Midoriya’s airbending teacher.

Todoroki Enji (Endeavor) is the Fire Lord in this AU because COME ON he was made for this role.

That makes Todoroki Shoto a Fire Nation prince.

Shoto’s father had been experimenting with creating an ultimate weapon by combining water and fire bending. Rei, Shoto’s mom, is a powerful waterbender from the Northern Water Tribe and she was forced to marry Enji in order to protect her people.

Enji see’s Shoto as his ultimate success and he keeps him under lock and key. Shoto wants to gain his freedom and runs away. This is how he eventually joins the Dekusquad and becomes Midoriya’s water AND fire bending teacher. Although, Midoriya has to whoop his sweet ass before Shoto is willing to use or even teach firebending.

Todoroki Touya (*cough* Dabi *cough*) is the banished prince in this AU. His daddy burned him good, and he decided to peace out and become a nuisance to his father’s navy by joining a pirate gang (the League) and ransacking their ships.

The Fire Nation is still aiming for world domination in this AU and they manage to ruin a whole lot of lives in the process. The Sozin’s Comet deadline/arc is essentially the same here. Dekusquad plus friends (the rest of 1-A probs) have to defeat Enji before the comet arrives.

I really like this idea, and I want to expand on this AU in the future! Please let me know if this AU has inspired you at all or if you use it for your own work. I’d love to answer more asks about this AU, I have plans for the Bakusquad and some of the other UA teachers, like Aizawa having a similar chi blocking style to Ty Lee!
