I headcanon that while Dick and Jason may not have gotten along super well before Jason died, one thing that they bonded over was their love of Dolly Parton. Jason had heard of her, but wasn’t really familiar with most of her discography (he didn’t really have a lot of money to spend on music or time to listen to stuff while trying to survive on the streets). Dick plays him “A Gamble Either Way” and “Silver Dagger” and both hit a little close to home for Jason. he quickly got into the rest of her music.
after Jason comes back and is on better terms with the family, they do a family movie night (the first since Jason’s return) and Dick puts on 9 to 5. during the opening sequence, Dick looks over at Jason with a glint in his eye and starts singing along. Jason rolls his eyes but sings along perfectly, getting kinda into it, just like before he died and it was just the two of them. everyone else is surprised to see the two of them acting this way, except Alfred who is smiling fondly at them

A fanfic idea I've always had for HalBarry that I've BEEN WANTINGGG to write is a mission dealing with the Music Meister but the whole thing turns into confessing to each other about how they feel infront of everyone but through a musical style. Music Meister's power is being able to sing and control people to sing AND dance. I also want to mix the ability of CW Music Meister, his powers contain the ability of creating this figment that is like a sorta daydream sequence. (That's so silly and cool I love it and he's also my favorite villain in general but there's barely anything on him)
I'm still debating what songs they would sing but it would be based on how they feel INTERNALLY and through complex topics like what they are worried about. For example, from gaining the feeling that they'd lose the other if confessing was the way or being afraid of saying the truth directly to someone OR entering a relationship at all. ("What would they say? How would they react? What do I look like to them??" etc. etc.)
Give the other JL members little song sequences and singing. 'If Only He Can Love Me' duet between Dinah and Ollie in Brave and The Bold... OR BRUCE BEING ABLE TO SING. ARTHUR TOO, he's so silly in that episode.
I'm also including Music Meister HEAVILY from 'Mayhem of The Music Meister!' from Batman: The Brave And The Bold S1 E25. Having Neil Patrick Harris be Music Meister for that...I'm amazing. ANDDD AND, the fact that Neil also played Barry Allen in DC: The New Frontier film

Lyric Headcanon
I know I'm like a bazillion years late and I'm so sorry, @peaches2217 wrote this adorable story back in August and at the end included a cute callback to One Step Closer. The reference was a quote from the eponymous U2 song, where the lyric "a heart that hurts is a heart that beats," is mentioned as something the Bros mother used to say.
I think it was so sweet and it kind of gave me this sense that the Bros' mom quoting U2 was becoming fanon 😂 So what if their mom was just a huge U2 fan, and all her wise or uplifting quotes that the boys fondly remember are literally just lyrics from their songs? They have plenty of material and quotes I've adored my whole life. I'll make a list here, and I may incorporate this into my future fics. Any other Mario writers are welcome to do the same as long as you give me a little shoutout 😎
--In no particular order, here are some quotes alongside some context I believe they could fit in--
"A heart that hurts is a heart that beats." -One Step Closer (A gentle reminder that pain makes us human and can be appreciated.)
"Blessings are not just for the ones who kneel." -City of Blinding Lights. (On religion and judgement against others.)
"...Grace makes beauty out of ugly things." -Grace (A reminder to be kind even when it's hard, maybe something Peach does in her approach to politics reminds Mario of this line.)
"It's no secret ambition bites the nails of success." -The Fly (A warning that both ambition and success can be damaging.)
"I'm not broke, but you can see the cracks." -All Because of You (A quip about money or sense, maybe Mario and Luigi use this to tease each other?)
"The only pain is to feel nothing at all." -A Man and a Woman (A similar sentiment as One Step Closer.)
"Sweet the sin, bitter the taste in my mouth." -Running to Stand Still (Some things are just not worth it, especially when it comes to overindulgence.)
"There is no failure here, sweetheart, just when you quit." -Miracle Drug (Uplifting reminder to keep going. Maybe something Mario tells Luigi.)
"Stay a child somewhere in your heart." -Original of the Species (A plea to not become jaded by adulthood.)
"The right to be ridiculous is something I hold dear." -I'll Go Crazy if I Don't Go Crazy Tonight (Being silly for the sake of silliness is an underappreciated privilege in our lives.)
"It's hard to listen while you preach." Every Breaking Wave (Remember other people have valuable things to say that you'll only hear if you listen.)
"Love is bigger than anything in its way." -Love Is Bigger Than Anything in Its Way (I feel like this could be a quote Mario chooses to live by, and he tells Peach this and it kind of shifts her perspective too 💖)

I know the kneejerk reaction from Black Sails fans to this line from Treasure Island is “but it wasn’t just for money, it was for love,” and that is SO true and valid. But, at the same time, I’d like to posit: imagine it was all just for money. So what?
A squire, someone born into more money than he could ever possibly know what to do with, is going to put down poor people for wanting economic stability???? For being willing to put their lives on the line to achieve it?????? It’s all very reminiscent of “‘You people, incapable of accepting the world as it is,’ says the man to whom the world handed everything.” Like Woodes Rogers, Squire Trelawney sees the pirates as villains for being unwilling to accept their lots in life and refusing to play by civilization’s rules, even though those rules are rigged against them.
YES, it’s about Stories and Civilization’s Warped Narratives and all of that, but also, even if Trelawney was right about this, he would still be wrong, and I think that’s important to keep in mind also.

sometimes your favorite song is by the idol group you see every time you go to tokyo but they haven't released it to streaming and they're quite obscure (not to mention taping performances is extremely NG in jpop idol culture) so the only time you have a chance of hearing it is when you go watch them perform and it's like not even guaranteed that it'll be on the setlist every time and then you find out it's actually by a disbanded sister group of theirs and they also didn't release it to streaming but they did put it on youtube in a 20 minute long video that features their entire first mini-album except for some reason it's the absolute worst quality vocals you've ever heard on a professional recording as in not the mic quality but the actual singing quality as in it sounds like a group of friends doing karaoke not even professional singers just some friends with no retakes no autotune touchups not even re-recording the lines that are off rhythm but it still means you kinda get to hear the song in your apartment. but is it even really the same song as the one you hear when your favorite member gets the solo in the chorus and walks from the back of the stage out towards the audience between the rest of the members as if parting the sea. is it

I KNOW Steddie’s song is basically Head Over Heels and all, but it’s also very common in fics that Steve is a fan of ABBA. So I want to know why I haven’t come across something like this happening:
“So if you had been in the clutches of Vecna, what song would we needed to play?”
“It’s definitely not up to your standard of music, but, I guess it’d have to be Head Over Heels”
Eddie snorts “Knew you’d be a Tears For Fears guy”
“Um” looking at Steve now, he’s blushing “ABBA, actually.”
