I want to love and be loved. but the usual understanding of that is that you are committed. you are locked in. #taking a break from a relationship is code for “we're breaking up”. there's is no getting out without destroying the bond #I wonder if the classic Tom Cruise c love a woman but next movie she's dead“ trope could be seen as a version of that. #a socially acceptable way to love someone until you're done and then move on to the next thing. #a lot of my hookups have been a one time deal even though I would have liked to see them again. because they got too attached. #people see love and presume romance. people see openness and presume emotional connection and commitment. #if your friend is having a rough time and needs to disappear for a week. that's okay. but a partner suddenly can't. #there's less permissable distance in a romantic relationship. #why can't I do the classic spaghetti western thing? ride into town. help out and be appreciated for it. and then leave when I feel it's time #cue that magnificent seven quote that's like “cowboys are like the wind and farmers are like the land”. there are different ways to live #and social interaction is a numbers game. meeting people until you finally find someone you're compatible with. #and the more particular or non-standard you are. the more your success pool narrows. or at least that's how it feels #I know the reality is that there's more relationship diversity out there than it seems. because divergence is suppressed and hidden. #but that contributes to it being harder to find. more difficult to seek. more culturally shameful to pursue. #I don't think I've ever seen a fwb relationship in media that's not either played for laughs or turned into a romance eventually #the classic “men want fwbs and women want a committed relationship” ☠️ it's not a concept that gets taken seriously. #I just.. ugh. I feel like I'm pushing against the entire weight of my upbringing because what I innately desire is so far from acceptable #and I've unlearned so much self criticism and policing. but there's so much more to go and I just. ugh. it's so exhausting

i’ve been doing my duty properly and reading some different nurseydex fics on ao3 lately 🫡 i tried to find some that are more recent, however i inevitably found some that are older but slipped through the cracks for me.

i seriously CANNOT BELIEVE i never read this before but i think i was in my inactive era when this was posted. it’s just so perfect!!! all the feelings and interactions with not only dex and nursey but all the other characters, friends and family, they all felt so real and i loved them so much. i’ll be rereading this a LOT! you should too!!

“Are we the baddies?”

Another post-Blind Betrayal snip! Set earlier in the timeline than the last one I posted. At Listening Post Bravo, Haylen has a sleep-deprived identity crisis. Danse hasn’t completely worked out the finer points of this whole “emotional support” thing, but he’s trying.

Overall not too dark, but CW for death mention and a brief implied reference to a suicide attempt related to the canon events of Blind Betrayal. So with that, uh, enjoy?

Obviously choosing his words carefully, Danse said, “You look tired.”

“Shift change,” Haylen said, deliberately not looking up from her task. “Half the station’s knights got sent to the front. It was supposed to be temporary. Just until we ‘won’.” She made air quotes over her shoulder. “Naturally most of them got shot. Or blown up. Not Cal. He got stabbed in the neck with a flag pole, for variety. I saw his body later. Points for creativity.”

Danse made an unintelligible noise in his throat. She knew she sounded unhinged. She didn’t care.

“Of course Rhys has been going on and on about how we’ll avenge them. We’ll make sure their deaths mean something. Like that’s even possible. Like that’s supposed to make me feel better.” She wrenched the plate off the suit’s arm with more force than necessary. It hit the concrete floor with a harsh clang. “Such a waste,” she muttered, driving the screwdriver between the exposed struts. “Such a waste. Who are we even fighting? Because it’s definitely not the Institute anymore. Maxon makes it out like we’re against some great enemy of the Commonwealth, and I would almost believe that—if they weren’t farmers. Not ferals or mutants or mad scientists—honest to God farmers. We’re fighting the people of the Commonwealth to protect the people of the Commonwealth. What kind of rad-addled nonsense—”

The screw refused to budge. She hit the screwdriver against it for no reason other than to make a sound. In the corner of her eye, Danse held a hand out in offering. She ignored him and tried again.

“I’m sure there’s more to it than that,” he said.

She exhaled through her nose. “There is. Of course there is. The Minutemen helped the Railroad. The Railroad helps synths. All synths are bad. That makes the Minutemen bad. End of story. Except, I don’t know how I’m supposed to believe even that anymore when you—”

She didn’t complete her train of thought. She didn’t need to when she met his gaze on a whim, just in time to see his raised brows lower and knit together. His hand was still outstretched.

She didn’t know how close she had come to losing him, when Delaney had tracked him to this bunker. I got there in time, Delaney had said. In time. How many seconds had been left in that time? Had the gun already been in his hand, the barrel already tucked beneath his chin? The example, not the exception, he’d said. All threats had to be eliminated, even if their only crime was simply existing.

But he was Danse. He had always been, pure and simple, Danse.

“I’m rambling,” she said, unnecessarily.

He stepped into her space, pulling the screwdriver out of her grip as he did so. By virtue of being a foot shorter and half his weight, she had no choice but to move out of the way. He took over the battle with the stubborn screw, which gave way bit by bit.

“You should rest,” he said. “When you’re tired, your work has a tendency to become…” The screw twisted free. He pinched it between his thumb and forefinger. “…uh, inefficient.”

She would have preferred he’d stabbed her with the screwdriver.

Her silence must’ve registered, because he looked up from his progress with the next screw. “You know better than to take offense to that.”

She did. She hadn’t—not to anything he’d said out loud, anyway. It didn’t change the fact that she wanted to scream at the top of her lungs. Or vomit. Whatever would get rid of the hot, sick feeling that writhed all the way from the pit of her stomach up to the base of her throat.

“I don’t want to be a scribe right now,” she said quietly, before her brain had the chance to manually approve the words.

Too late, she realized they wouldn’t have passed peer review—because Danse looked at her like she’d grown two extra heads. But she couldn’t take them back now.

“Is it too much to ask for a single minute as, I don’t know…just a person?”

With a rare touch of wryness, he said, “You’re asking the wrong nonhuman.”

“You’re a person.”

“Not the same way you are.”

“I’m a soldier. Lately, it hasn’t felt compatible with much else.” Less and less so each day this pointless war went on.

“What do you want me to say, Haylen?”

She wished she knew. She had the horrible suspicion words didn’t exist to describe the horrible sick feeling, never mind to ease it. So, she did what she did best: she backpedaled, and she pretended like it didn’t matter.

“Nothing. I’m exhausted and angry and grieving. I’m not thinking clearly. Forget I ever said anything.”

“No.”

“No?”

“No.” He hooked the screwdriver on his belt, giving her his full attention. “I’m concerned.”

She fiddled with her glove, not trusting the wrong words to stay put if she opened her mouth too wide. “Sorry.”

“Are you thinking of quitting? Leaving the Brotherhood?”

“No.” She said it too sharply. Danse’s brows raised, even as she softened her tone. “Of course not. The Brotherhood’s family. Where would I even go?”

Abortion Eve (1973) by Joyce Farmer

Abortion Eve is historically significant for its frank portrayal of women grappling with the issue of unwanted pregnancies and the potential solution of abortion. The artwork by Lyn Chevely (aka Chin Lyvely here) and Joyce Sutton (later Joyce Farmer or Joyce Farmer Sutton) is rather weak, but the story provides fascinating insights on the physical process and emotional impact of abortion. While there is no question the book is strongly pro-choice, the creators incorporate several messages advocating conventional birth control. This comic is as relevant today as when it was published in 1973.

More than three decades after its publication, Abortion Eve is still cited and quoted by pro-life organizations to make their point about the callousness and cruelty of abortion. Whatever your stance on abortion, you can rest assured that the procedure will be around as long as women get pregnant; whether an abortion is performed legally in a medical facility or illegally in an unsterile alleyway hovel (or germ-laden kitchen or bathroom).

Since I'm high on motivation right now, I decided to begin writing a new series featuring all Rhodolite princes. It will be called 'The Two Faces of Love' and each prince will have two stories: pragma (enduring love) and eros (passionate love).

We'll start with our poster boy, Leon since he's slowly been crawling up my bias list without me knowing. Heavily inspired by this quote from Emma written by Jane Austen:

"If I loved you less, I might be able to talk about it more."

Leon knew you were up to something. You wore your heart on your sleeve, fearless and secure in your emotions. You were running around like a panicked bunny all day for a few months and when he did see you, you’d avert your gaze in fear of being caught. As such, he saw you less and less yet, he can’t find it in him to get mad. Not when your eyes sparkled with excitement. He can’t deny that he is curious though, and when he wraps his arms around you at night, his patience wears even thinner, wondering when you would finally reveal whatever it was you were losing sleep over.

Then finally, the day came. The two of you were riding the carriage to town together and your foot kept tapping insistently in impatience.

“Hey, you do know that whatever it is, I’m going to love it, right?”

You sigh, “I know, Leon. It’s just that I’ve been working so hard on this. I need everything to proceed perfectly.”

He takes your hand, drawing small circles in an attempt to relax you.

“Then, I’m looking forward to it. I want to see whatever surprise my fiancé’s beautiful heart has thought of this time,” he smiles. “Although, seeing you like this is enough for me. Knowing that you’ve worked hard and that you’re this anxious is already making me feel so happy. All these just for me.”

He closes his eyes and sighs, “Ah, really. Are you planning to make my heart burst with so much happiness?”

You laugh, and its gentle melody is enough to fill Leon’s heart with affection.

As they approach closer to town, the sound of music gradually fills the air. He can hear cheers and shouts as if people were enjoying so much merriment. Finally, the carriage alights, and when Leon steps down, his eyes widened in astonishment.

“Surprise!” You shout at him.

The town was filled with so many people dressed in colorful garments. In the middle of the square, various performers stole the crowd’s attention. On every corner, people were selling rose-themed products: paintings, sculptures, food… everything you could think of.

Leon looks at you, still bewildered at the festival before him.

“What is this?”

“It’s a celebration, Leon. For you and the Rhodolite you will build as its king. These past few months, I’ve seen how hard you worked: creating better tax incentives for our farmers, developing our kingdom’s exports, and overall just doing whatever you can to make this country the best in the land. This is a culmination of it all, Leon. A culmination of your first moves as a king, and a beginning of the path you will create as our ruler.”

He didn’t think he could love someone more than he did you at this particular moment. Little did he know, that he would be proven wrong the very next instant.

Shyly, you tucked a stray strand of hair behind your ear, “Remember that day when you returned after being held hostage? You asked me to tell you that I loved you.”

“I did.”

“And I told you it was difficult. It was difficult since what I felt for you was so much more than the meaning of the word love. Well, this is it Leon. This is my ‘love’ for you. What I can’t express in words, I’ll show in action, because there is no word in the whole world that can perfectly capture what my heart feels for you.”

Leon felt tears down his cheeks and he wasted no time pulling you by your hand and wrapping you in his embrace. He placed a gentle kiss on your lips, his rough palm caressing your cheek.

“There is no word that can describe what you mean to me as well,” he says, voice raspy as he tries to contain the love he feels for you. “And every single day, for the rest of our lives, I’ll show that to you. I’ll show you that what we have is something indescribable, something you’ve never seen even in your favorite romance books.”

Leon peppers your face with kisses before he nuzzled against your cheek.

“But for now, an ‘I love you,’ will have to do. I love you.”

“I love you too, Leon.”

Based on the quote “Eyes are the window to the soul”, I had this idea that Isaac always acting like he hate the farmer but the way he looks at them says otherwise. How would you elaborate on that?

Isaac can deny it all he wants. The cold-blooded warrior could tell his colleagues or subordinates how much he despised that pathetic excuse for an adventurer who was somehow still an official member of the Adventurer's Guild. Isaac could complain to Alesia all night long that Marlon, a man respected by the entire Castle Village community, had made the most questionable decision of his life, whether because of a shortage of Guild members in the Stardew Valley area or for some other reason Isaac, alas, could not understand.

The adventurer with the bad temper and the scarred face can ignore the Farmer's attempts to talk to him as much as he likes, he can bark at the clingy youngsters as much as he wants, tell them to go to hell, and behave in an unfriendly manner. Treating them not like an equal friend and colleague, but like an annoying mosquito that keeps buzzing over his ear and begs to be swatted with the palms of his hands.

Camilla is one of the few who have truly amazing insight and the ability to read the minds of others (not literally, or else she'd be in trouble with the Ministry for violating human rights by using magic). To guess at a glance what a person was thinking, what they were feeling, what emotion they were experiencing - all of this helped the talented witch find common ground with other mages and adventurers throughout the whole Republic. And it was this quality that became crucial in her selection for the most important role in the Castle Village - deciding who would pass through the barrier and set foot on the land of the largest community of the sword & magic world.

This woman could easily look into Isaac's eyes and read him like an open book, nothing gets past her.

The way Isaac's gaze lit up with genuine curiosity when Marlon and Magnus praised Farmer and all their accomplishments. The way his eyes filled with laughter when he heard another story that the daredevil Farmer had managed to get themself into. How Isaac had snickered lowly at the news that Farmer with all their bravery and courage were fighting monsters in the Crimson Baldlans, yet his dark eyes widened slightly with in a kind of pride in them and a desire to have a friendly duel in the future.

How his restless and pain-filled gaze never took his eyes off Farmer's body as they (with a smug smile, damn them!), wounded and with bloody clothes, lay on the dusty ground while Lance and Jadu tried to heal Farmer after the failed hunt for Apophis.

Isaac can fool everyone all he wants. He can even fool himself.

But Camilla knows better.

My thoughts on Martyn Secret life lore stream (Eyes and Ears AU)

first, Martyn why would you hurt me with that imagery? Poor scar ;-;

-I really like the idea of the logo being the pincer on the Watchers. Grian is a force of nature and should be represented as such

-I am of the personal belief that Jimmy did not break free from the canary curse, since he died right before Wither/Warden boss fight and the entire point of Canarys is to warn of danger

-slightly irralevently but I need to draw the Scar

-BOY do I love the idea of Gem being used as the Watchers new tool because of the Zombie outbreak (send Gem all the love for that skill!!!)

-love Gem being taken by Watchers in general, especially adding in her lore that in Empires she thought everybody was just roleplaying, so she came in thinking it was roleplay and got stuck.

-i also like the idea of Jimmy getting struck down because of the Watchers being confused by his "funeral" and once Lizzy dies, then going "wait no he's supposed to be dead hold on-" and striking him down immediately

Again, never seen any data stream so take all of this with a grain of salt. I just like analysing stories and have read enough to be able to pick out plotlines fairly well.

I'm not listing Supernatural cuz that's obvious lol

1. Frasier - I have rewatched this show 25 times, I quote it constantly, and every time I remember that I first watched it as a child my entire personality starts to make sense

2. Gilmore Girls - my mom and I first watched this when she was diagnosed and it became a staple in our lives. We were so much like Rory and Lorelai in our relationship, but even better.

3. Modern Family - seeing a big family like this constantly in each others lives and doing stuff together felt very familiar lol. Also it was pretty influential in breaking down some of the homophobic brainwashing I'd had through the church, both in me and my parents.

4. Avatar: The Last Airbender - just finished my rewatch of this show. It's so utterly beautiful and fun and compelling. I first watched it as a kid and its infinitely better to watch as an adult.

5. Top Gear/The Grand Tour - my emotional support middle aged men driving cars and being hilarious. I only have a mild interest in cars but they make it so interesting. This was a CHM blog before it was a spn blog.

6. Grace and Frankie - this show is EVERYTHING to me and I need Sol Bergstein to be my best friend forever pls. I wanna go to a farmers market with him and Coyote.

7. Sherlock - only because it was unfortunately my introduction to tumblr fandom and now I've been here nearly 10 years 😔

8. Friends - not just because I quote it constantly and have rewatched it 12 times but because my mom used to sing a lullaby to me to the tune of Smelly Cat and I didn't realize it until I was 16 and watched the show for myself!!

Oh god silver you can’t ask me that I don’t.

Okay. In no particular order I’ll try:

1. Lantern scene made me scream and have to get up to walk around so it has to be on here. Like yes it’s very romantic but ALSO it’s such a power move. No one expected XL to get a single lantern and he got more than anyone could remember being possible. The visual spectacle it must’ve made is also just *chefs kiss*. It’s XL’s reassurance that he’s truly not alone anymore.

2. “Only after having met you did I rediscover that it’s such a simple thing to be happy, hahaha…” This one kills me because it’s just. It’s the crux of Hualian’s relationship for me. I got teary eyed just copy pasting that. It’s them teasing each other. It’s them laughing with each other. It’s the relief after a ‘separation’. It’s screaming into the void because it brings up so many emotions to me. It’s silly, it’s short, it’s undoubtedly precious though.

3. XL saying he’d rather be in constant pain than be away from HC in the Ghost King’s Birthday extra. Actually all of how that curse came out kills me. It confirms that everything reminds XL of HC and that he loves HC just as overwhelmingly as HC loves him. It’s so so so precious. (Of the extras I actually just adore this one the most. XL claiming he’s bad at sewing because he’s too manly, the fact that apparently throwing HC across the room is recognized foreplay for them???, the cuddles, HC’s utter joy at XL’s belt. All of it is so precious and makes it really clear what a normal Hualian week looks like)

4. Their first kiss as a couple. Right before they jump into the kiln when XL says it’s the first time they’ve kissed without excuses being there and he doesn’t know what to do with his hands and tries to run the other direction in his embarrassment later. The way HC is so happy and understands XL is just flustered. The way he plays up the spiritual energy excuse still. It’s cute.

5. “A clear and powerful voice in his heart told him that this man really took him for a god.” I think about this quote once a week. I don’t know how to explain this, if this quote doesn’t make you want to rip someone’s heart out I can’t help you.

6. “Cry out if it hurts.” This scene made me cry when I read it. It makes me even more emotional on rereads now that I’ve seen book 4. It’s just. The quiet acknowledgment that it’s okay to still ask for help or express your pain even if you’ve dealt with worse. The care. The tenderness. The intimacy….

7. When QYZ and LW come over for a meal and Hualian basically trick QYZ into eating some. It’s such a little thing, but the way they exchange looks after HC compliments the dish and they watch QYZ get curious? They FULLY know what they’re doing. They are menaces

8. “I don’t worship god. I am god.” If this scene doesn’t give you shivers I can’t help you.

9. XL eating melon seeds with the captured Yushi farmers while PM gets attacked by XJ. This is the height of comedy. I think it’s tied with “I don’t know if you all missed me, but I haven’t thought about any of you at all.” and I simply will not choose

10. “Sigh, it is rather hard work.” HC gets so spoiled mere hours into them officially being a couple and it’s so fucking funny. He learns quickly XL will let him get away with pretty much anything and I love that for them

Love the first half of Welcome to Korea a lot. Frank and Margaret are peak hilarity and had me laughing outloud several times (Frank’s stolen ham... incredible writing), the satire is a delight, and Trapper’s goodbye kiss followed by Hawkeye going awol to race to the airport is still the most romantic thing to happen on the show.

Still remember the first time I watched it a decade ago it was the episode I went from ‘I enjoy Hawkeye and Trapper’s homoerotic wisecracking and I think they’re fwbs’ to ‘oh shit actually they were in love and I ship them hard,’ which is probably the worst time to start shipping them lol, oops. But like, come on. How can you not?

I don’t really roll with the “Hawkeye got leave from Frank because he had a breakdown when Henry died” headcanon because it breaks my suspension of disbelief too much since that’s a big thing that would’ve been mentioned or alluded to, and Hawkeye is fine here lol. I can’t easily slot it in without breaking a sense of emotional continuity. I prefer to assume either Henry arranged for it before he left, or Frank wanted Hawkeye out of his hair while trying to establish an air of authority among the rest of the camp. (Since obviously the real reason is so Trapper could disappear off-screen bc Wayne Rogers was gone.)

I find Hawkeye’s tour guide vibe in this episode interesting because they’re clearly trying to make him come across as very aware politically and socially, but the writing is hamstrung by the writers’ own failings. Like Hawkeye introducing Korea by listing its history of colonization, including America; BJ calling the Korean hospital primitive while Hawkeye’s like well yeah they’re impoverished; Hawkeye knowing the farmer is using his daughters as minesweepers to save the expensive ox... but of course it ends up white saviour-y, and very surface-level, and some of Hawkeye’s jokey phrasing can be wince-worthy (plus the Kipling quote...) The scene with the farmer in particular is unfortunate in its overt condemnation of the farmer and lack of overt condemnation of the forces that caused the poverty and mines that created the situation. Granted we get that condemnation in other scenes to an extent, but this one felt clumsy to me, yk?

Though that said, this episode is another reason I dislike Hawkeye Get Your Gun, in which Hawkeye, despite having been shown that he knows better, is the one to complain about Korean hospital conditions and Potter, of all people, is granted the voice of reason.

“Frank I lived with the guy for over a year, he was my best friend!” “You’re exaggerating his importance.” “He was very important to you too, Frank.” “Says who?” “For over a year he kept me from killng you.” Like I was saying about Hawkeye being more impulsively violent than Trapper.

Outside gay stuff, my favourite line in this episode, as Frank is going through the Swamp throwing stuff away: “Boots covered in blood. Animals.” That’s the military satire I love.

And I’m gonna make a separate post for my thoughts on Hawkeye and BJ I think.

Because they host you and even pay you, and there's a buffet outside, you think rural farming was done by my grandfather and until the manure spreader came along he couldn't get married because as he was working in the stables and handling the manure he smelled like manure. Finally thanks to mechanization he was able to break free from the sad rural farming. Even my farmer father was able to study because the tractor came along and he didn't have to devote 30 hours of his time for every quintal of grain he cultivated (but you know, these are valuations, who cares about them and then again they don't hold a candle to Pasolini), in short caught up in the emotional wave you don't say anything and that is, if your grandfather came back to life and found himself doing rural farming he would say: oh no, we are still here, what the hell did you wake me up for?”

I wouldn't recommend this drama to my friends. I wouldn't rewatch this drama.

Yoo Yeon Seok in this character is new to me. I don't dislike it. I understand him for some reason, and I think he's hot. God, Lee Byung Hun has been hot my whole life. Chun Shik kinda cute.

What baller mothers we got in this show. Get me a supporter like Ms. Haman. This dessert candy shop looks bomb diggity. Let me in. Same with all the dessert foods we are eating. They look so good. Kim Taeri is such a good actress. She's just leaking out emotion behind this facade of aristocracy. I like Kyle's role and friendship with Eugene. He's also such a homie. Ae Sin enjoying all the fun foods are so cute to me. I love the vulnerability and shock when Ae Sin was like haven't you confessed like 2-3 times now to Eugene. I enjoy Hotaru as a character. The first hug between Eugene and Ae Sin, I was all squeals. Eugene stopping Kim Yong Joo in his room was hot. Yooo, the Ae Sin and Hina sword gun fight was epic. The letter exchanges are cute. Seeing elderly Joseph was so nice, but seeing his death was so tragic. I like Hina and Ae Sin's relationship once they discover each other's identities. I do enjoy the threesome of the men. Buddha leading the American to God is such a nice thought. Ae Sin and Eugene's dates make me smile. I love Eugene's relationship with Domi. I'm really enjoying the representation of this specific time period. I respect Kuno Hida a lot. Respect to when grandpa bought land plots for his farmers. The strong bond between all the protags is so beautiful to me. The proposal and the photo taken in Japan is too cute to me. I love Dong Mae's right hand man, Yuzo. I love the pawn shop owners and Haman and Haengrang.

The how do Joseon women distinguish colors with black eyes killed me. I have never heard such a thought. I cannot with the fact of the Five Eulsa traitors. Like five people is all it took for all the destruction and chaos that comes after? The tossing of the newspapers is so chaotic to me.

Lmaoo at the little boy being like this man keeps talking to me. Wait LOLL the encounter was so cute when Lady Haman brought the stitched notebook of Ae Sin's and said Eugene Choi's name was written so often.

Wow that power at Ae Sin telling Dong Mae that she knows she could kill him and he wouldn't be able to. Wow, someone pay me in gold bars. Wow, I want a love where I'm like, now that I love him, I can't ever go back. The accent for the Takashi character is crazy because the actor is Korean but is tryna sound like he isn't and it's great. People who are down to bite off their tongues are so wild to me. My gasp at Eugene being sentenced to jail with a dishonorable discharge. The Glory Hotel explosion was crazy.

The unfair deaths and destruction that happen after grandpa's death makes my blood boil, my eye twitch, and my body shudder. This show was like one villain isn't enough, let's add another.

Lee Yanghwa finally crying, I teared. I just started tearing so much after Japan took over. Okay, no tears, I straight up cried at Yanghwa's death. I cried at Haengrang and Haman's last moments. I'm sobbing by the time the town bands together to protect Ae Sin. I cried when Domi came back grown up.
