Background and Phonology of Kiy Seth

Introduction

Kiy Seth is the ancestor language of most of the current languages of the Hekou Lowlands, a flat veld gated by the Austral Mountains to the north and the Western Sea to the south. Due to the insular nature of the region, it resisted imperial efforts to standardize Juśqe across the outer territories, and Kiy Seth remains a traditional prestige and religious language throughout the Lowlands to this day.

How the language was imported into the Lowlands is unclear, as it does not appear to be related to the Lösse languages that preceded it and still survive in some corners of the region. Due to similarities in vocabulary and grammar, it's been suggested that it may be related to the languages of the seafaring Ipáasa on the opposite side of the Strait of Wiigéu. Unfortunately, the connection is tenuous and may have been due to later contact during the heyday of trade between its northern suzerain and Vógyípáa - though it shares enough areal features to be considered a part of the Wiigéu linguistic zone nevertheless.

Kiy Seth (pronounced /ki sɛt'/) distinguishes three series of stops - voiced, voiceless, and ejective. The other three modes of articulation - nasals, fricatives, and approximants - each have only one series apiece. This results in a total of seventeen consonants in the standard dialect. Notably, this number is somewhat smaller than the number of consonants in the regional dialects that gave rise to its modern descendants.

There are six, but they exist in a tongue root-based vowel harmony system, so in a significant number of words the number of distinctions is closer to four (with exceptions). This harmony spreads from the leftmost vowel.

Phonotactics

Kiy Seth has middle-of-the-road restrictions on syllable structure: (GA)V(S), where G is all consonants including a couple allowed initial geminates (ff, ss, ssh, as in sswen), A is any approximant, And S is sonorants + s and sh. One additional restriction is that if the initial consonant is an ejective, an approximant, or a nasal, there cannot be an approximant in the secondary position (i.e., kras exists, but there is no *wrün).

Stress and Rhythm

For the purposes of stress, Kiy Seth recognizes two types of syllables: light syllables, which take the maximal form CVC, and heavy syllables, which are either CCV or CCVC. These syllables are then paired off into feet from left-to-right, with light syllables filling one slot and heavy filling two:

kwemernü -> (kwe)(mer.nü)

Incomplete feet are allowed at the end of a word, but not at the start or inside: there is no *maryi, for instance.

Once the feet are assigned, stress is then given to the first syllables of each foot, with the final foot taking the primary stress:

Between vowels, fricatives are often voiced immediately following the stress (like in thuse ['t'u.zɪ])

The realization of r varies widely depending on position and dialect. Most frequently, however, it is realized as [ʁ̞] or [ɴ] between vowels, and [ɴ] before another dorsal consonant. Initially, it usually occurs as either [ʁ̞] or [ɢ], and in some dialects has disappeared in that position altogether.

first, you're great at giving advice. you care for your friends an awful lot but maybe you had a hard time making friends when you were younger. scorpio risings tend to be intimidating or they can come off as weird (especially with a gemin sun that's usually on the extroverted side). you can be overprotective of your true friends tho.

Death Flags Otome X Her and Her Journey in Another World Idea (gonna call it His and Her Death Flags for ease.)

All you gotta know about His and her Journey in Another World (hope I’m getting that title right, it’s been a while), is that the protag enters another world in the body of two people; one a man and the other a woman, and end up getting seperated for reasons. Now, here is the important part; both bodies consider themselves the same person, they are piloted by the same soul, same personality and everything.

This, is the aspect I am taking into Death Flags Otome; Especailly when I happened to see a certain gender bend extra :D

So here is the story~

When Katarina is born, she isn’t born alone; she happens to have a twin, who is either going to be Cathan or Cathal because I like how they pair up with Katarina’s name. At first, the twin’s parents were pleased, because they thought this meant they would have a solid heir for the house, as well as a daughter to help in a political match...

Only, to find their children are under Gemination, or more commonly called the Curse of Gemini, an affliction that makes it to where the children share one mind, one soul, and one spirit between two bodies. it isn’t usually obvious until about three or four, and I’m going to say no one knew about it for a while in the Claes Family because the twins were always so close and sharing childish secrets that it wasn’t obvious they were the same person for a while. It comes to light when they are five though, which causes some interesting side effects; for one, their Son can no long be the heir of the Claes Family, due in part the Dangers of what could happen if their other body is held hostage or the other body is killed, then they would too. 

(there are a whole lot of reasons why actually, coming up with some were actually rather fun and some just pissed me off; like, because of Misogyny, who would ever want to risk a woman in charge. Some fun ones were ideas of just how someone could use this to their advantage, having one body act as their spy/informant or even having the ability to make an instant alibi, just have the other body cover for them or even do it themselves.)

But yeah, this makes the Duke first focus on making sure his children will have a steady future, before he thinks of an heir for their Claes Family. There are a few Routes one can go, when the children are under this condition. For example, one can do multiple political marriage matches now, though the children for the male line will end up as vassals for the house instead of heirs (though can be if necessary) Another is to have one of the bodies act as an attendant/personal assistant to either themselves or a allied house. Either way, new training and etiquette will be needed to learn.

So yeah, we have these two spoiled noble kids, living the high life... and then when they are eight years old, Katarina is sent to the palace to interact with the prince while Cathan/Cathal is at home, studying or being a brat, when their other body goes falling, getting the nasty wound and cut from said fall.

Cue both falling unconscious, Katarina facing the fever and wound while Cathan/Cathal is just in a coma, showing how things can go differently between bodies, but if the mind is affected, both are screwed.

Cue the waking up with all the memories of another world; and chaos that comes with it :)

Katarina is still out of it when she wakes up, along with Cathan/Cathal, who both pay attention to the Prince, doze off and hey, the engagement still happens. This cements Katarina as the Fiance of the Prince and Cathan/Cathal as an official Vassal for the Royal Family, giving the two a shining and secure future. This also makes sure to bring Keith into the family as heir and thus we get to where I want to.

Namely, how Katarina having two bodies causes even more wacky hijinks and all the bi-disastors :D (Now the boys are not even spared from the charm effect XD)

Like, I can see both the Claes Twins being very excited about having two stomachs to enjoy all the sweets and great foods. (they still get in so much trouble because of this.) They’re also very good at multi-tasking as well, something that comes natural to them luckily enough. Both bodies have their own skills and such, like Katarina is more skilled with her hands which makes her a better tree climber/crafter while Cathan/Cathal is actually pretty decent with a sword. (not that he can beat a certain black heart prince or anything tho.) They are both still pretty terrible with magic, so the fields will still rise.

But out of all that, it’s going to be the interactions they have with those around them that get people. For one, it will take people a while to really get that these twins are in fact, the same person, who just has a double set of everything. It will make one really question themselves, because damn are they amazing as a person. It will probably also incite some jealousy, confusion, and just more fun along the way.

Not to mention just how the rest of the Harem will react... I can already see the nosebleeds now... And I can imagine multiple Princess Carries, with both Katarina and Cathal/Cathan being held and doing the holding, no one safe from their muscles XD
