Tips for those who are planing to Edit your Clangen Cat Files (From someone who has suffered)
1. Check if you can actually edit your Clangen Cat Files
I have been playing Clangen for a very long time so I have downloaded many older versions. The Clangen I was editing had a simple saves folder and it seems that the newer version on itch don't have that so, I have no idea how to help you. I'm not a developer and I fell ass backwards onto these tips because I was having so much trouble. Also, I only own a Windows so if stuff is not working and your on another devise, I really don't know how to help you there. I have tried, boy have I tried but I can't figure it out, so Sorry.
Now to the many Lessons from my suffering.
Make a back up, And Please, make more than just one
When you mess something up, and you will mess something up, make a backup of the file you are going to edit. If you don't do this than you might delete something that you don't know how to fix. And then you will have to start with a whole to save file. And do not make just one backup, make at least Three, Two that you will actually use and One to make infinite copes from, you will mess up a lot and you will need those extra copies.
2. Download a program that can actually edit the code with out making it unusable
Opening up the code in any program and placing it back in will not work. The new file will probably be unreadable to the game and you will have to start all over again. The software I used is called (notepad++) If the download page looks weird to you it is probably because this program may be older than google. But don't you worry, this oldy was made to ready all kinds of code and can let you see inside of the files while not braking the game.
Once you have this fully downloaded, when you right click on your Clan's Cat list file, Right under open, there should be (Open with notepad++) After you edit the files you should still be able to enter your save.
3. Write out the Edits you plain to make to your cats
If you have the Clangen Cat Maker, you probably know what you want to make your new cat look like. But the code will look very different from the Clangen Cat Maker. There are some words that are different in the Code and formatted differently. So I suggest that you set up a word or text doc to write out the Cat you are going to Try and code in. This is my format for writing for you to use:
Name: (For Tip 6)
Age: Age
Pelt Length: Length
Reversed: True or False
Shading: True or False
Base Color: COLOR
Base Pattern: Pattern
White Patches: Pattern
Eye Color: COLOR
Heterochromia: True or False
Other Eye Color: Null, unless you want Heterochromia if so; OTHER COLOR
Skin Color: COLOR
Tint: Color
Tortie: True or False
Scar 1: Null or Scar Name
Scar 2: Null or Scar Name
Scar 3: Null or Scar Name
Scar 4: Null or Scar Name
Accessory: Null or Accessory Name
5. Know the Difference between GREY and Gray.
If you did not know, in the vision of Clangen I was using gray eyes were not chosen for a cat by just editing their eye color to GRAY, but rather to GREY.
Is GREY the correct spelling for the color; no. Did this annoy me for hours after finding this out; yes. Could this be a funny inside joke between the coders; probably. How long did it take me to find out that this is why that one cat was not working; Five Very Stressed Filled Hours. Other things in the cat code like tints are just called gray so, know the difference.
6. If you are going to change the cat's name, DO THAT FIRST
If you made a save and you want to make all the cats in the save different names but you want to do that later, DO IT FIRST. When you are in the depths of the code,it is hard to tell which cat is which. It can be so easy for you to change the wrong cat and then you have to redo everything again. This can also happen multiple times when you don't learn the first time you do this.
If you have a name in mind for your new cat, Write it in the Name section of Tip 3.
As much as I want to say these tips will make things easier, they just worked really well for me. There is still going to be a lot of trial and error in the actually editing process. But I hope that this helps someone. Now if you don't mind me, I am going back into my hole. I Wish You All Good Luck. You will need it.

Since we've seen the reactions of their children to their parents dying, could we now see the parents' reactions to the children dying instead of them? Perhaps the children sacrificing themselves so the parents can live?

• So for you to die instead of him? World's will likely burn.
• He wants blood, he wants revenge, he wants to find a way to bring you back.
• Magni simply cannot lose you, not his little girl/boy (regardless of your age), he will not just let you go so easily.
• The necklace he gifted you when you were born, and had worn up until your death, is now wrapped securely around his wrist.
• When he sleeps at night, his dreams are plagued with the memories of your childhood, and he weeps everytime he wakes.
• You weren't even supposed to be there, Baldur had expressly told you to stay out of it.
• But you had begged your father with doe eyes, and he never could say no to you.
• A fact he had come to regret after your death.
• He should have known better, the stranger had survived a fight with Baldur, he should have known allowing you to join was far too dangerous.
• But like a fool he allowed you to join...
• And for that he had to watch as your head was split in two by the strangers axe.
• A fatal blow that was intended for him...
• He vows to do the same to the stranger with his own axe, no matter what it takes.
• Though try as he might he would not succeed in this quest, as it was not his fate to defeat the tattooed man.
• He dies honorably, and his last thoughts are of you, and how much more you had deserved in life.

• But before the kid could harm him, you practically came out of thin air, allowing the blade to sink into your heart instead of your fathers neck.
• "No!" He had cried out in heartache, clutching your smaller body as you fell, tears spilling from his eyes as he looked into your lifeless orbs.
• He never wanted this.
• First his brother, and now you, his own child. And yet he's left to suffer alone, and alive.
• The tattooed man had dragged his son away, and left Modi to wallow in his grief.
• Whispering your name over and over again, he begged you to wake up, and not leave him like this.
• He regretted ever engaging with that man and his son, he regretted trying to coax them into killing him, but most of all he regretted failing to protect you.

• And in the end Modi would make a drastic choice.
• He would take the dagger he had gifted you from your belt, and he would reunite with you in Hel.
• Knowing you didn't die in battle, but instead were murdered. He knew you'd be there, waiting.
• His body would be found some time later, with you still clutched in his arms like a babe. Your dagger still lodged into his neck.

• And before Kratos had a chance to even try harming him, you had stepped forward and put yourself between them.
• Sadly your sword was little a match for his axe, which broke your blade, and sunk into the side of your neck.
• "No!" Baldur cried out, having only just snapped out of his dazed state at the spell breaking. "What have you done!?" He hissed at Kratos.
• Rushing forward to catch you before you fell, his body crumbling to the ground as he felt you for the first time in his arms.
• "That was my daughter/son!" He yelled as tears filled his eyes, his hate filled gaze snapping to you when you made a choked noise.
• You tried desperately to speak, but no words could form as you died in your father's arms.
• Freya tried to intervene, to offer help. But he wouldn't allow her to touch you, rushing to his feet he essentially ran off with you in his arms, wanting to be far away from everyone.
• He never realized just how much you meant to him until he had to bare witness to your death.
• He took your body back to Asgard where you would have a proper send off, but before that would even come to pass.
• He would make his way back to Midgard, and fight with the tattooed man once more.
• But without the protection spell, he was unable to win, dying in the same exact fashion as you had.
• His body was brought to Asgard, and you were burned on a pyre beside your father.

✨ Fic Planning and Outlining ✨
Outlining is a huge part of my writing process and something I love talking about, so since I’m currently suffering something of a writer’s block, I’ve put together a step-by-step explanation of my process below. It is important to note that there is no right answer or best way to outline; as with most things it’s just a matter of finding what works best for you!
I would love it if other folks chimed in and added to this with their own tips and tricks!
Let’s learn from each other!
Outlining Tools & Overall Organization
To start with, I use OneNote to organize everything, but there are a ton of programs out there, and you could even do this with different .txt/word files! The main reasons I like OneNote: (1) oo pretty colored tabs (2) tab folders for making sense of the giant pile of WIPs:

So, I have all the things I’m “actively” working on out in the open, then squirrel away everything else in one of five categories: completed (yay!), short, medium, and long WIPs, then a catch-all category for everything that doesn’t really fit anywhere else.
The Outlining Process
To demonstrate and (hopefully) have a little fun, I’m going to pick a half-baked idea from the “WTF – Miscellany” category and create a new tab as if I’m actually going to write it! So, without further ado, let’s dive in and begin outlining for a multi-chapter AU fic wherein Rogal Dorn and Perturabo are high school girls’ volleyball coaches!
First Page: Tags ‘n Such
I often hear that tags can be the hardest part for writers, which is interesting because this is usually where I start! Something about seeing my fic in the summary format it will eventually appear in on AO3 is very motivating to me, and helps guide my writing. You can always add/change later.
Here is the template I use for easy copy/pasting!

This gives me a chance to talk about one of my FAVORITE writing hacks, which is… [BRACKET TEXT].
I don’t know about everyone else, but my brain consistently feels the need to get everything perfect on the first try, which is very unhelpful and actively counter-productive! I’ve found that when I can’t get the phrasing of something just right, or I’m still not sure what I’m going for, putting some brackets around the text in question and just scribbling whatever’s in my mind at the moment allows me to move on without getting bogged down.
If it’s in brackets, I give myself permission to be silly, OOC, anachronistic, or messy, and boy is it a lifesaver sometimes.
Once I have the AO3 info fields done, I draw a little line below the summary and start filling in what I call the “brainstorm space” (that inevitable turns into a mini-outline I need to move over to another page at some point). This is another place I allow myself to be messy. I scribble down thoughts on narrative structure, inspirations, setting, key moments/scenes, themes, motifs, stuff I absolutely need to include, and any overarching things that will be helpful to have before planning in earnest.

Not much there now, but it’s a start, and that’s what outlining is all about!
Second Page: Detailed Outline
A bit of a note here – I used to have a separate page for a “mini-outline,” i.e. a less detailed version, but the brainstorm space basically serves this purpose now, so it’s less common.
This is where the actual structural planning starts to take place. I’ve gotten into the habit of using bracket text here, too, to serve as shorthand summaries of each point. For a multi-chapter fic, I’ll also make sure to note where I think the chapter boundaries will fall, though obviously this is subject to change.
So, a barebones one for this fic might look something like this:

There’s not much there right now, but that’s fine, because (1) it’s in bracket text and (2) this is just the skeletal structure for what comes next: filling it in as you get inspiration.
My brain tends to want to write longfics, but never linearly, of course. Sometimes I get raw bursts of inspiration for scenes, so the way I work with this is to scribble (on my phone, on the computer, in a physical notebook) whatever it is down at the moment I get it, then plug it in to the existing outline later. This way, I end up building a pretty comprehensive plan for the fic before I even open a word document, and it’s easier to make big choices like chapter contents, scene order, and story progression without feeling like I need to tear apart something that’s already fairly set in stone.

Note that this one is in chart form, which is what I usually go with for longfics for better separation of scenes and ideas.
Pagestravaganza: Additional Pages for Longfics
For one-shots and shorter multi-chapter fics, typically the Tags/Brainstorming and Detailed Outline pages are enough to get me ready to write, but for longfics, there’s a lot more to think about, and additional places to take notes can be helpful.
Here’s an example of all the pages in the tab for that Celefax AU I mentioned above, which has a lot of characters and worldbuilding and all sorts of things that would be difficult to encapsulate in an outline alone:

For one of my other longfic WIPs, I also have a page where I write down revision notes for the parts I’ve already written as they come to me, so it’s easy to refer back to during the editing process (which I could write a whole other post about).
Another thing I sometimes like to do, especially for one-shots or fics that are from only one character’s POV, is write out a paragraph or two about character emotional arcs. Plot is great, but it can be hard to know where that takes you if you don’t know where each character is starting out and where they end up.
To summarize: The sky’s the limit here. Whatever you need to do to make sure everything comes together, however you need to organize it, however little makes it into the final draft, your outlining/planning document is for you, and you shouldn’t get too bogged down into what needs to be there or whether it’s clean and pretty. As long as it’s helpful to you, it is serving its purpose admirably, and even if it isn’t you’re still learning what does and doesn’t work for you. The way I outline is a constantly evolving process, and different things work for different fics. Feel free to play around!
Writing the Dang Thing
This is the end result, the task for which all your outlining has (hopefully) prepared you!
I’ll be honest: I loathe first drafts. (See above comment about everything needing to be perfect the first time around.)
It’s probably for this reason that I outline so fastidiously, because when I plop my bracket text outline and any pre-written snippets into my first draft, it feels so much less daunting than staring at a blank page.
I can start to fill in the pieces I neglected (scene setting, always), figure out where there might be a need for more connective tissue, and tackle the bite-sized chunks my bracket text outline has created one at a time.
I keep doing that until, ta da! A workable first draft emerges, and we move on to editing, my beloved.

This will by no means be comprehensive, but here are some of the things I noted:
Day 1:
Has a fight with Eddie the Maintenance Man and is nearly strangled to death.
Gets in a car crash. Sounded bad, but even the baby was fine, so…?
Gets stabbed in the abdomen and is in a coma for over a month
Day 2
Is running for his life within an hour of waking up from a coma. That can’t be good for you.
Smacks his head on a boathouse
Gets beaten by cops
Gets shot twice in the gut and once in the chest. Saved by ghost.
Day 3
Smacks head on dock.
Gets blood drawn by cultists. Probably no long term effects. hopefully.
Falls in an old elevator from an unspecified height. Uneven footsteps for some time afterward.
Larvae starts burrowing into arm, burns it out with a lighter
Big river monster draws a substantial amount of blood from abdomen with apparent anti-clotting abilities.
Extraplanar entity attempts to destroy soul. Don’t know if that left a mark.
Bites off the tip of his pinky
Day 4
Sandstorm removes skin from right(?) side of face and damages right(?) eye. Presumably damaged any other exposed skin.
Fights an electricity snake.
Blows up the boat the snake is in
Falls into a big nasty pit. Specifically mentions injuring his back and being unable to walk on his ankle

So what if like most of your skin is exposed and ur severely underweight and losing copious amounts of blood and occasionally falling unconscious in the middle of a snowstorm on a mountain? 🤔
Day 6
Then there’s just the unspecified leg injury that causes him to pass out. Wow he was really on a roll these past 2 days
An indeterminate time passes, but I’ll call it
Day 7
That’s right, folks, we’ve almost spent a full week with Arty and John
Now it’s just the recent stuff. He says his leg just feels stiff now, and ponders over the drastic recovery 👀
Ear monch
Fall down what sounds like a really long mine shaft. He encounters a lot of shafts huh
Aaaand we’re caught up
Let’s see we’re 2.5 days of strenuous activity (+however long he was unconscious) without food. I suppose that is nothing outside his norm.
Those are most of the major injuries. In the intervening time, he engages in plenty of activities that would result in cuts and bruises. If you want to get real nuanced with your blorbo-crushing you can research the physical effects of chronic stress, coma without proper recovery, and of long-term starvation.
At this point I’m convinced that John is affording him boosted constitution.

This one is a first for me I've never had an ask trying to get out of a relationship but I will try my best to come up with some tips and hopefully, it helps (⚠️ please note I Am not an expert here - I can only offer advice based on my personal opinion so please bear that in mind, none the less I will try to help)
First things first I am so sorry you’re going through a toxic relationship no one deserves that everyone deserves a relationship that makes them feel safe, loved, secured, cared for, etc. No one deserves toxicity in there life especially from their spouse or significant other, I’m glad you recognized the signs of the relationship being toxic and you’ve decided to end it now before matters gotten worse.

My Tips (⚠️please remember this is only my personal opinion‼️):
1. I’d say detach as soon as possible from this current partner - This person could be a source of negative energy to you and this person could be an energy vampire (meaning their presences literally drains your energy which lowers your vibration).  A better definition of an Energy Vampire: “ Energy vampires are people who — sometimes intentionally — drain your emotional energy. They feed on your willingness to listen and care for them, leaving you exhausted and overwhelmed. Energy vampires can be anywhere and anyone. They can be your spouse or your best friend.” SOURCE:  How to Recognize and Respond to Energy Vampires at Home, Work, and More I recommend giving that a read it might help out with your situation.
2. Once you’ve let that person go take sometime for yourself - Take some time to rejuvenate your mind and body. Toxicity can do a lot to both our physical and mental health. “ Toxic relationships cause feelings of low self-worth, helplessness, fear, anxiety, depression, insecurity, paranoia, and even narcissism. “Toxic relationships are dangerous to your health; they will literally kill you. Stress shortens your lifespan. “ SOURCE:  Toxic Relationships: A Serious Threat To Mental Health. You’ve already mention how you’re tired of suffering so I definitely would say once you’re out of this take some time to be with you. Seek therapy if you have to, reach out to friends and family, do stuff that brings you joy, have self care days, Meditate, do breath work, etc. 
3. Set boundaries - Learn from your past relationship. The Universe loves to teach us life lessons especially through the use of other people. Reflect on your past relationship; assess what went wrong, what you allowed, what you liked and disliked about the relationship, what you wished could have went better, etc. Just spend some time reflecting and set some boundaries for how you want to be treated. If you don’t know how to set boundaries here a link to this article.  How to Set Boundaries in Your Relationships. 4. You may wanna do some shadow work before jumping back into relationships - What is shadow work? - Firstly we need to find out what is the shadow. “ The “shadow” is a concept first coined by Swiss psychiatrist Carl Jung that describes those aspects of the personality that we choose to reject and repress. For one reason or another, we all have parts of ourselves that we don’t like—or that we think society won’t like—so we push those parts down into our unconscious psyches. It is this collection of repressed aspects of our identity that Jung referred to as our shadow self. “ SOURCE:  Carl Jung and the Shadow: The Ultimate Guide to the Human Dark Side. So Shadow work is basically confronting those parts of your repressed part of our identities and getting to know them. Shadow work is basically journaling about these repressed parts, bring them to the surface an confronting them (in a sense a form of scripting but you’re writing about stuff you normally wouldn’t tell anyone else - its highly personally. You’ll be surprised how much you can learn about yourself from this.) I’ve personally done shadow work and it has helped me a lot with getting to know my true self and healing some of my past traumas.  I recommend watching these two videos - they’re ones I’ve personally watched when I discovered shadow work and they helped me a lot in the beginning.

💻 i did shadow work for 16 days, here’s what happened
I believe doing some shadow work will really help you both to learn more about yourself, aid with your trauma and even help with setting your boundaries and other aspects of your life. If you need Prompts (these are basically questions that you’ll journal about when doing your shadow work - you can simply make up your own or search for ‘shadow work prompts’ on Pinterest or google.)
5. Do it like Neville would - After you’ve detached from this person, done your self care and reflection. Do it like Neville would - Assume it into fact. Imagine yourself in your ideal relationship, imagine your ideal partner, imagine your perfect romance, give it all the feelings of reality. Imagine it and assume that relationship to be true with your new partner, believe it is true, feel it to be true, have faith that it is true. Then go on about your life. Relive your imaginal act as much as possible and get into the state of the wish fulfilled (believing that it is already done for you) then just go on about your day/life. Live in the end and persist in that assumption. If you can’t visualize or imagine it no worries, just make that assumption - make the assumption that you are now in your ideal relationship with your ideal partner, the same rules apply, believe in that assumption, have faith in it and feel that that assumption is already done for you, persist in that assumption. DO NOT WORRY ABOUT THE ‘HOW’, DO NOT WORRY ABOUT WHEN OR HOW LONG IT WILL TAKE OR IF ITS POSSIBLE, ETC. REMEMBER THE LAW ONLY WORKS IF YOU BELIEVE IT WORKS - SIMPLY BELIEVE YOUR IDEAL RELATIONSHIP INTO EXISTING. DO NOT WORRY ABOUT HOW LONG “EVERY SEED HAS ITS APPOINTED HOUR” - IT MAY HAPPEN TOMORROW OR IT MAY HAPPY NEXT YEAR, WHEN IT WILL COME NOBODY KNOWS, BUT “AN ASSUMPTIONS  IF PERSISTED IN LONG ENOUGH WILL HARDEN INTO FACT” - Neville Goddard. All the law asks of you is to have FAITH and BELIVE in it. Your desire is yours for a reason - you already have it just believe you do! You may say oh what about my circumstances?? - Ignore the 3D. I will link this post HERE about a video a watched that really opened my eyes to ignoring the 3D hopefully it helps you.  If you don’t know how to make an assumption or what it is see this ask HERE for more info on that. 
6. Along with your new assumption you may use different manifesting techniques to help you (see my pinned post on this) - Now, you might use one technique or you can use as many as you want - its all up to you. Do what you’re comfortable with and do what feels right to you. 
✨ Affirmations: You can affirm that you’re in your ideal relationship. Example: “I am deeply in love with the man/woman/etc. of my dreams right now.” “I am in the most wonderful, perfect, loving relationship right now, I am so grateful for my relationship.”, “My new partner treats me with the most respect and loves me so, I am grateful for my new partner.” Say them only when you feel the need to, I’d recommend saying them with meaning as well (say them as if your in that ideal relationship). Here’s why (⚠️and I do plan to make a more in depth post about this once I complete my research on it‼️) but basically the subconscious mind is the mind of FEELINGS. To make impressions on our subconscious mind we must do it with feeling. This is why you’ll always see people saying “FEELING IS THE SECRET”. Notice that when you’re sad/depressed (for example) and you say something like “ this is always happening to me” more bad things happen... this is because the subconscious mind pick up on that feeling of sadness/depression because its your dominant mood and your conscious mind is mostly focused on negative stuff. The subconscious mind will only out put what you’re mostly focused on and that will manifest.  I know you wont be in a happy/positive mood 24/7 your human, I am human we have different emotions but when you’re in those moods try hard to make the new impression on your subconscious mind (Believe and feel those assumptions and affirmations into fact).  ⚠️‼️‼️ IMPORTANT NOTE: this does not mean you can't affirm when you are down, sad or in neutral mood, you can. Affirm in any mood until it feels natural to you then you wont feel like you’re lying to yourself or being fake, etc. Also do not affirm 24/7 do it when you feel the need to - DO NOT FORCE IT!

Calories In Mince Pies
Hello guys, Francesca here! I wanted to talk about calories in mince pies.
I love mince pies, unfortunately for years with my eating disorder it’s something I would avoid and if I did have one – I wouldn’t enjoy it because it would taste like guilt. It’s important to enjoy the festive treats, everything can be had in moderation. 1 mince pie will not affect your weight, your progress or health. However, what it will do is satisfy your craving! It will make you feel Christmassy and hopefully bring you a bit of joy – so if you want a mince pie, have a mince pie. Eat it slowly and savour every crumb!
That being said, you may want to know 2 things:
1 – Where sells the best mince pie, because if you are going to eat one – You want it to be a good one!
2 – You might want to be aware of the calories, because you may want to work a mince pie into your daily macros in December and who am I to say you can’t do that?
One tip I would give especially to those who suffer from binge eating tendencies, is to go out for a mince pie and get one. Have it on a plate, sit down, acknowledge your eating it and enjoy it. Often when we eat things quickly, often standing up in the kitchen we don’t actually think about what we’re eating and don’t enjoy it. This leads to having more than one, especially if you have a packet in the kitchen.
Coffee Number 1 Mince Pies
If you are UK-based, COFFEE NUMBER 1 is hands down my favourite, I personally don’t like too much pastry so these are perfect. With a thick base, lots of filling and a pretty ‘star’ topper rather than a full lid! Bonus, they are vegan, which is great to be available for everyone to enjoy. They are rather large but I’m not complaining, that means it is 450 calories.
Cafe Nero Mince Pies
Cafe Nero mince pies are a close second for me, very similar to Coffee Number 1 but a thicker pastry so for some people that might be more appealing. It is slightly smaller and lower in calories at 350.
Waitrose Mince Pies
Waitrose is obviously known to do high-quality and tasty foods, so no surprise it’s on my list for mince pies! However they have so many choices, here are my favourites No.1 Brown Butter Mince Pies with Cognac 260 calories & No.1 4 Crumble Top Mince Pies with Cranberry & Orange4s 390 calories – These are lovely choices for something a bit different from the traditional mince pie.
Asda Mince Pies
If you are looking to pick up mince pies in your weekly food shop, Asda has a great selection for under 250 calories. ASDA Extra Special 6 Luxury Mince Pies have 235 calories and cost £2.75, while The BAKERY at ASDA 6 Mince Pies only have 212 calories and only cost £1.09 so definitely worth a punt!
Tesco Mince Pies
Another one for the weekly food shop winner is Tesco, with something a bit different: Tesco Iced Topped Mince Pies 6 Pack with 221, I love icing so these win for me but are very sweet so might not be everyone’s cup of tea. Or how about Tesco Puff Pastry Mince Pies 4 Pack again something different using puff pastry and less than 250 calories?
Greggs Mince Pies
So I cannot confirm this myself, however, my friend’s husband is a mega mince pie fan and starts chowing down on them in SEPTEMBER – I know right? He has done the leg work for everyone and I’m assured that Greggs in fact does the best mince pie! With 281 calories that’s not bad and I will be giving them a try this weekend.
Homemade Mince Pies
Instead of buying, how about making a batch yourself, you will know exactly what’s gone into the recipe and therefore control potion sizes and ingredients. Cinnamon&Kale have a great recipe to follow.
The point of this blog is to give you the information to make an informed decision, if you want a mince pie – have a mince pie! Maybe choose more wisely if you are trying to keep within a calorie-controlled plan but you can still have the mince pie!

At first you were positive you’d eaten something off and were suffering from a mild case of food poisoning. With your luck, it wouldn’t have been the first time. But then it lasted for more than a few days...and then some more after that. After a couple of weeks of denying that it could be anything but a mild stomach bug, you came to the earth stopping conclusion that it was something different entirely. 
The signs were all there, and it wasn’t that you had been ignoring them but...you had been ignoring them. The idea that it could have possibly been anything but a stomach bug was terrifying. But there was only so much hiding you could do from Bucky before he came extremely concerned at the sight of you repeatedly hunched over the toilet. He insisted you go to the doctor and knowing him, if you didn’t comply, he’d throw you over his shoulder and take you himself. 
After a little white lie of saying you’d go right away, you’d sneaked off to the corner drug store in search of those dreaded pregnancy tests. Bucky was off doing whatever the hell it was he and Sam did half the time, so you had a few hours to yourself. You felt like a criminal as you bundled up in a hoodie of Bucky’s and looked around furtively as you grabbed one of each of the tests and took them to the counter to pay before practically running home. 
You felt so silly, so dumb as you had the six tests on the counter, while your phone slowly ticked down the time. All the signs were there - how could you have ignored them? The missed period - wait, was it two? You’d been so bad about tracking them, you honestly didn’t even know. The morning sickness, apparently not food poisoning, the extra sensitive breasts, the fatigue. It all seemed so obvious now. 
You sighed as your timer went off and looked at the various tests. 
They only confirmed what you had already accepted. Pregnant.

You felt like you were floating on air as you walked out of the doctor’s office with some of the grainiest photos you had ever seen. But the only thing that mattered was the small little bean that you could clearly make out in the middle of them. Your little bean - yours and Bucky’s. Your baby.
It’d been a week since you’d taken the tests and made your little discovery. After that it had become a little game of hiding it all from Bucky - you wanted to tell him and soon, but you wanted to surprise him at the perfect time. You knew he’d be over the moon about it all. You’d talked about children, and it had been decided, especially since you’d been together for a few years now, that if it happened it happened when it would happen. But you just knew he wanted this - and honestly, so did you. Despite the extreme nerves it had set upon you.
So, you decided to play a little game with Bucky to see if and when he finally realized you were pregnant. Hopefully it’d be before you were showing - he wasn’t that blind after all. But you were going to have fun with this.

“Hey Buck,” you were sprawled on the couch, resting your head in his lap as the two of you watched a movie on Netflix. It had been a long day and there was nothing you wanted more than a quiet evening in - this was nothing short of pure bliss. He made a small sound of acknowledgment as he gently played with your hair, silently telling you to go on, “what do you think you’d want to name our baby? Boy or girl?”
Sure, it was anything but subtle, but the way you had been resting your hand on your belly wasn’t either. And he hadn’t caught onto that either. 
“Hmm, I’ve never really thought that much about it,” he mused as he looked down at you and offered you a soft smile. You grinned back at him as you grabbed his hand and pressed a gentle kiss to his knuckles, “I like...and don’t laugh at me - the idea of naming a son Steve. Maybe a daughter Rebecca or Sarah.”
“Bucky,” you could see that despite his seemingly disinterested attitude, he had actually given this a lot of thought. You knew they were so much more than just names,”those are lovely names. I think any one of those would be a lovely name for our baby.”
“Yeah?” he asked, almost timidly as you reached up and touched his cheek, running your fingers over his stubble as you nodded. He practically keened into your warm, gentle touch as his eyes closed, “I love you.”
“I love you too, bub,” you whispered as he pressed a kiss to the palm of your hand, “let’s get to bed, huh? It’s getting late and I’ve just been so incredibly tired lately.”
“Come on,” he slowly ushered you up and off his lap before standing and stretching. You couldn’t help but admire him as a rush of love overwhelmed you. You really loved him more than anything - well him and your small bean now. Bucky effortlessly leaned over and scooped you up in his arms, cradling you to his chest as he walked towards the bedroom, “you’re so beautiful.”
“You’re not bad yourself, Sarge,” you grinned as you rested your head against his shoulder, “but I almost feel like I’ve just got this...glow lately ya know?”
“You always do,” he promised with a kiss to the top of your head as you almost burst out laughing. So many not-so-subtle-hints and he still didn’t catch on.

“Bub? You in the kitchen?” you called from the bedroom, knowing damn well he was there, finishing up a big weekend breakfast for the two of you. You tip-toed out of the bedroom, pulling on your - his - shirt to indulge in a lazy Sunday. 
“I’m in here, sweetheart,” he looked up and smiled softly as soon as you came into view. He still looked at you as though you had personally hung the stars and moon, like he was still in the process of falling in love with you every single day, “hi.”
“Hi,” you walked over to him and motioned behind, “can you do me a huge favor and get me a glass of water and my vitamins? I left them on the counter.”
“So demanding,” you both were aware of the fact that he’d never say no to you. You took a seat at the bar, hopping onto your stool as you swung your legs back and forth and waited for him to either realize what was going on, or make some sort of joke. But instead he hummed some tune under his breath as he set a glass of water in front of you and grabbed your vitamins. 
The man, this silly, lovely man, picked up the bottle of prenatal vitamins, opened them, and handed two of them to you before following up with your other supplements. Your mouth hung open as you looked at him in awe - you’d literally put it all in front of his nose and he still didn’t catch on. 
Goodness Gracious.
“There you are, pretty girl,” he leaned over and kissed you gently before turning back to the stove. You watched him with a dumbfounded expression but slowly  grabbed your water and vitamins and downed them, “anything you want do today?”
Alright. You were willing to push a little further and see if he finally caught on.
“There’s a new store that opened up downtown,” you said noncommittally, “they umm...have a lot of baby and kid stuff and I wanted to go ahead and check it out.”
“Sure thing,” nope. Apparently you were going to have to hit over the head with a two by four, “sounds good. We’ll go after breakfast?”
“Yeah,” you agreed, shaking your head in amusement, “sounds good to me too, bub.”

It had been almost a month of dropping hint after hint, and they had been becoming increasingly less subtle. You were pretty sure that you could have just straight up told him you were pregnant at this point and he still wouldn’t have gotten it. 
But you had one last little idea - Father’s Day had come around and you were going to make sure his first father’s day was special. Maybe it was silly to celebrate when the baby wasn’t even born yet, but you didn’t care - you just wanted to finally tell him. 
The evening before Father’s Day, you’d let Bucky go to bed first, telling him you were just going to be a little longer, needing to finish up some work. He believed it hook, line, and sinker, and told you to join him soon. Once he was snoring soundly, asleep on his back with the gold and black vibranium arm splayed over your side of bed, you pulled out all the supplies you’d gotten. 
You made quick - and quiet - work of blowing up multicolored balloons and throwing some confetti around. You’d regret it later but the surprise would be worth it. Once you were satisfied, you grabbed the newest sonograms you’d gotten at the doctor the day before and tucked them into the envelope along with the card you’d picked out. After writing on the card, you sealed the envelope and on the front side simply wrote Happy Father’s Day. 
On the back, knowing how Bucky was, you scrolled one more little note. You left it all on the counter, along with the box of cupcakes you’d snagged from his favorite bakery, ready for him to discover in the morning. He’d be up before, and he’d have the little surprise to wake up to. 
Hopefully this time the message was loud and clear.

Bucky stifled a yawn as he slowly crawled out of the bed, stretching his stiff limbs. You were still all bundled up and lightly snoring with a little smile on your face. He reached down and gently brushed a lock of hair out of your face before pressing a kiss to your forehead. 
Slowly making his way down the hall, a confused expression crossed his features as he noticed the glittering confetti on the floor. How strange.
But as he walked into the living room and saw the ballrooms all over the place he was visibly confused. What on earth was going on? He picked one that was close to his foot up and played with it for a moment before lightly smacking it across the room. He perked up when he saw the colorful box on the counter, a clear giveaway that it was from his favorite place.
Shuffling across the room, he was ready to throw open the box and indulge in an early morning sweet treat when he was stopped by the card on top. He picked it up and instantly recognized your handwriting. Happy Father’s Day!
It must have been for your father...maybe this all was for him and your parents were coming over and he’d somehow managed to forget about it all. He would definitely hear about that later on from you. Shit. 
No...he surely would have remembered that. He was old but his memory was still sharp. He felt the envelope beneath his fingers, noting that it was slightly thicker than a normal card. Curious. He flipped it over and his heart almost stopped when he saw what you had written on the flap.
Yes. This is really for you, James.
James. That’s how you knew you were being serious. 
His heart felt like it was almost bursting out of his chest as he slowly slid a vibranium finger underneath the seal, careful to prevent any rips or tears. After what seemed like a millennia, he opened the thing and pulled out the card, along with the sheet of photos. 
Bucky’s mouth fell open and formed a small o as he looked as he read over your sweet message in the card. Once he studied the grainy photos and realized that holy shit, this was your baby - his baby. You were having a baby! He inhaled - a shaky broken little thing as he fought back a few tears. After all this time, he was getting something he thought would only be a dream. 
“Surprise,” you whispered so you wouldn’t completely scare him. You’d woken up a few moments after him, already missing his body and warmth as soon as he had left. You had tip-toed after him and watched him finally realize what you had been dropping hints about for almost a month. His reaction had been everything, priceless. 
“Sweetheart…” he looked between you and grainy photos in his hand, his blue eyes gentle and glossy as you walked over to him, “we’re having a baby?”
“Yeah, bub, we are,” you promised, feeling tears well up in your own eyes as you carded a hand through his soft hair, “I’ve been trying to tell you for like a month. But you, sir, do not pick up on anything. Baby names? Prenatals...the baby store? The continued morning sickness. For a moment I thought I’d have to have the baby before you realized what was going on. I wasn’t being subtle anymore.”
“Oh...oh,” he said as a dark pink blush crept into his cheeks, “okay now it all seems so clear. I guess I...man, I’m blind.”
“Yeah, old man,” you teased softly, “turns out that food poisoning was never food poisoning at all. It was morning sickness.”
“Shit,” he was incredulous, “a baby. I can’t believe it...how far along are you?”
“Almost twelve weeks at this point,” you laughed, “I was wondering if you’d realize before I started to show.”
His hands found your hips as he played with the hem of your sweater before slowly pushing it up. A warm, gentle touch found your belly as he leaned in and brushed his lips over yours, offering you the sweetest kiss, “thank you.”
“For what?” you eagerly accepted his kiss and offered him a few more. He couldn’t stop himself from pulling you into his body and holding you close to him. Soon it would be a very different type of closeness. 
“For you,” he whispered, “for this...us - our family. I...it’s just that I never thought I would be good enough for all of this.”
“Of course you are, Bucky,” you promised softly, reaching up and touching his cheek, “you are a good man. You are. I love you so much, more than anything in this world. You are worthy of this, you have always been worthy. I will gladly spend every day of my life showing you that if I have to.”
“I love you,” he pressed his forehead against yours, “I still can’t believe this is real.”
“I love you too,” you beamed, “now, how about you eat a cupcake and I’ll start breakfast. Then we can start telling everyone that you knocked me up!”
“It sounds so dirty when you put it like that - I like it. I’m sure we had fun doing it too,” he snorted as he opened the box of cupcakes, grinning when he saw that they too proclaimed Happy Father’s Day. 
“What makes you think that, old man?” you bumped his hips with yours as you opened the fridge to get the ingredients for some omelets.
“Because we always have fun.”
“Cheeky!”
“Well, it’s not like it’s a lie,” He grabbed one and took a bite before offering you a taste, but you shook your head, “no?”
“It’s not me,” you insisted, pointing at the tiny swell that was slowly becoming evident, “the bean doesn’t seem to like sweets very much. At least not right now.”
“More for me,” he grinned as he pumped his fist in victory, causing you to dramatically roll your eyes before laughing, “hopefully the bean will be nice soon and let you partake. Oh…”
“Oh?”
“We have so much to do,” reality suddenly hit as his eyes widened and you laughed, “we’ll have to set up the spare room as the nursery. Your doctor’s visits - I want to come of course, and then all the stuff we’ll need when the they come-”
“James,” you put a finger to his lips as you quietly shushed him, “relax, bub. Breathe - we have plenty of time. There’s no reason to panic...today we’ll be lazy and relax, tomorrow we can figure everything out. Yeah?”
“Yeah,” he visibly calmed down as you grounded him - just like you always did, “we’ll figure it out. We can do this.”
“Yeah, we can,” you agreed softly as he took your hand in his and gave it a gentle squeeze before kissing it. Gods, you really loved him more than anything, “Happy Father’s Day, Bucky.”

*cracks knuckles* Ok! I actually got enough sleep last night so I'm finally feeling up to explaining this au lmao
Also I hope that by “some details” you meant “way way too many” because I am nothing if not long winded. Also @hades-hellsite asked for context too, here you go
The central premise is that, after he dies, Achilles manages to make an arrangement with Hades that allows both him and Patroclus to stay in Elysium together. He's not employed to work at the house and he never becomes Zagreus's combat trainer.
Hades makes a few attempts to find Zagreus a different teacher among the shades of great warriors, but being skilled does not make someone able to teach. And being able to teach one way doesn't mean someone will be good for every student. When Zagreus doesn't learn well with the few mentors Hades tries, which he barely gives a chance to breathe anyway, he's quick to decide that he must have no martial ability and declares Zagreus a failure in that as he has about so many things.
This has two major effects on Zagreus before his escape attempts begin. One, without any chance to actually grow into aptitude in combat, he's left without anything substantial to put his energy into and, more importantly, he's left without anything he feels good at and that gives value to his efforts. Two is that, in Achilles' absence, very few people in the house give him any care and support untwisted by the politics of the house and the judgment of his father. There is Orpheus, kind to him before Hades locks him away for refusing to sing, Hypnos, willing to put the house to sleep so he can find the truth though jumbled up in his own problems, and Nyx.
Nyx is the only one to aid Zagreus when he decides to try to escape. She contacts Olympus and weaves careful lies to win their support and blesses his departure. She's also the only one who believes that Zagreus has the slightest chance of escaping. Already in canon, most everyone tells him there no way he'll make it out, but here, it's so much worse. He doesn't know how to fight, his initial attempts are pitiful and his progress negligible, and near everyone lashes out at him to get back in line and stop making things worse.
He doesn't even have the Infernal Arms. Achilles is the one who brings them to him in canon; here Zagreus takes a simple bronze sword from one of the house's many displays of weapons from wars long past. He thanks the Fates that the Styx restores it the same way it does his body when he dies because he nicks and dulls the edges every time.
Despite all the disadvantages, Zagreus throws himself into escaping with unshakable determination, bone deep stubbornness. He picks up his sword and will figure out how to use it himself. Experience will be his teacher. He dies over and over and he watches his enemies and learns how they move and how he must react, mimicking their attacks for his own use and adjusting and adjusting after each failure. And contrary to Hades' adamant belief, Zagreus is very intelligent and learns brilliantly when allowed to and he grows stronger and stronger.
There's no teacher more savage than experience in something like this, though. The pursuit is agonizing and the cost is enormous and adjusting to this ceaseless violence feels impossible.
Much of my interest in this idea is how the added strain on his circumstances and relationships affects Zagreus and his mental state. At his best, Zag looks a lot like he does in canon, with his laurels unfurled and vibrant, and his feet glowing hot, but he rarely feels his best here. His laurel leaves curl in dry and crisp, muted like the leaves of autumn. Flakes of ash and soot build up over his legs and encase more and more as he suffers. So deep is his feeling of failure and being trapped that it affects him physically.
Not always, though. His flames respond to his emotions, burn brighter in his passion. Enthusiasm, love, fervor, bliss, anger set him glowing.
After a brutally drawn out span of time, Zagreus meets Achilles and Patroclus in Elysium and tbh, the rest of my interest is really in how the altered circumstances change the evolution of their relationships with each other. The pair of warriors were never separated for an extended time and Achilles is less downtrodden and resigned and Patroclus is less bitter and abrasive when Zagreus stumbles upon them.
They don't fight him, which Zagreus counts among his greatest blessings, although Achilles still seems to have an interest. It makes him twitchy and he jumps when Achilles finally lifts his spear and swings it around in his third time in their little glade only to bump the flat of the blade against elbow and tell him to keep it in more towards his body. Zagreus blinks rapidly at him before adjusting his arm.
Achilles helps him here and there, tips and tricks and valuable advice, but he never gives anything near the thorough instruction he did in canon. On one hand, he doesn't need to. Zagreus is a self made fighter and it leaves him with weaknesses but it is also a powerful thing. He is unpredictable and incredibly adaptable and he only continues to improve.
On the other hand, there's no room for it. Achilles is gentle with his guidance, but Zagreus is rubbed raw by all the fighting he's done and all that still depends on it. He doesn't want to always focus on the weapon in his hands. Patroclus notices and curbs Achilles' input when it exceeds its bounds. He sits aside and observers carefully when they spar. Zagreus doesn't need another's direction which is fine by him, who's lost all desire for combat. He gives his aid through his assortment of trinkets that carry Zagreus further to the surface.
Zagreus barely knows what to do with himself in the face of their care. He's so unaccustomed to such generous and genuine support, interest devoid of expectation or blame. As familiarity between the three of them grows, their interactions grow warmer, more tender and comfortable. Their care lays on a foundation, not a hinge, and Zagreus grapples with understanding that he really can lean on it. It all leaves him so uncertain yet so desperate because he wants more than anything to have joy and conversation and company with others where he doesn't shoulder heavy guilt from unspoken accusations over his escaping the house and to have a place he feels he belongs without being an intrusion.
He does at first believe he's intruding, though. Intruding on their time together in the peace of Elysium. It takes them time to convince him that they value his presence immeasurably. The opportunity to stay together in the Underworld has been invaluable for Achilles and Patroclus, but the peace of Elysium is a deceptive thing. It wears away and prickles at them, pressing down in odd warping ways. Patroclus is beyond pleased to have the war behind him and that it can never force him to fight again, and despite Achilles retaining an interest in competition and combat, he does feel the same way. Having a cause though, something to believe in and worth devoting their efforts towards... They didn't realize how deeply they missed it until Zagreus. It is revitalizing. They thrive in his genuine, boundless kindness and long to support him.
The drawings of Orpheus arguing with Hades and Zagreus fighting with Nyx is from one of my plot point ideas. Later down the line, together, Hades, Persephone, and Nyx agree to forbid Zagreus from seeing Achilles and Patroclus at Nyx's behest. Similarly to how she talks about Dusa in canon, she sees mortal shades as beneath his station and that it's highly unbecoming for the prince to be consorting with them. Zagreus fights against the idea ferociously and is only smothered by the threat that, if he seeks them out anyway, Hades will void Achilles' agreement and have Patroclus moved to the proper plane of the Underworld.
It crushes Zagreus. He loves them and cares about them so much and being torn apart from them is a wound that cuts so deep. But even more than that, what breaks him open most, is the fact that it came from someone he cared for and trusted most. Nyx was the one person in the House he could depend on most and this betrayal at her hand is devastating. And for such a worthless reason as propriety and godly vanity. It's not her place to force those upon him. It hurts Zagreus to the core.
Orpheus is the only one willing to stick up for him in this, deeply empathetic to the grief of being separated from loved ones and well acquainted with the fact that such punishments will only damage, never correct. After all, his stint of punishment in Erebus didn't revive his desire to sing, it was Zagreus's dedication and vibrancy that did that. One of the many invaluable gifts Zagreus gave him, including reuniting him with Eurydice, making him happier than he'd been since her death. Orpheus can't keep biting his tongue when all these gods refuse to see any of this.
It all comes to a head dramatically and painfully and I've thought of a few variations on how it would play out. I'll leave it for now though, I might draw it or write it later >:3c  Also this got really long lol. Hopefully the idea is at least somewhat interesting!

Art Block tips that helped me
 I’ve recently experienced art block after 3 or so months of overcoming my last one. Thankfully this block only lasted a few days thanks to some things I’ve observed and noted down from the previous time. So I’m sharing these few tips in hopes that it might help someone get unstuck :D!
First and foremost if you’re tired, sad or anxious don’t be surprised that you can’t make art, go and take care of yourself by treating yourself with kindness and patience, the sketchbooks and canvases will wait for you :)
The tips are under here:
Separate art studies from the creative time:  When you do art studies you’re there to focus on specific things, learn and understand how things work so you can apply them later in your art. Studies take a lot of energy and focus and are the opposite of the creative "flow” of making your own pieces. If you combine the two the results are either unfocused studies or stiff drawings. When you sit down at your desk ask yourself “Do I want to learn something new or do I want to create something of my own?”
When you have an idea don’t be afraid of being messy: Let’s say you want to make a picture of several cats kolo dancing in the moonlight. How do you go about doing this? Well since you came up with the idea you already have a vague image in your mind, sketch it out with simple shapes, stick figures, circle and spheres etc Don’t worry about cat anatomy, or the dancer’s moves, sketch out the essence of it. This method removes the need to be perfect or accurate. 
Ok after the messy sketch then what? Well now that you have sketched out the essence of your idea (and hopefully had fun doing so) now you go on to look for references! You put the creative process on pause and you can do a few brief studies if you need to: anatomy, color schemes, values, poses. Pick out a few of your favorites but don't obsess over them, they are a guide, a tool.
You know much more than you think. You’ve probably been drawing for a few years now. You’ve probably done some studies and drawn more than one type of subject. Then you have already internalized some of that information. I used to be obsessed with capturing the minute detail of the subject, and not be able to draw ANYTHING without reference. Instead of a useful tool, references became another obstacle to my creativity. That’s perfectionism my friend, and that’s no good. Here is an exercise a good friend of mine offered: Draw a few characters, animals and objects from imagination. Make sure that the subjects have no personal value to you (no ocs for example) so that if you make a mistake you won’t feel bad about it. Make the process relaxed and comfortable, pour a nice cup of joe, listen to your favorite music ... You will notice that you do indeed know how to draw some things without reference, and it’ll help with your confidence. 
The more you do studies the more you understand This seems evident but the more you understand your subject the freer you can be and the easier it’ll be to draw it from imagination in the future. If you really struggle with something to the point of frustration (as in you can’t get it right even with reference) It means you have to study it. Have a study list, for example: hands, perspective, color theory etc. And one of those days you want to study pick something from the list, and look for videos on youtube or useful sites like line of action etc. Only study one thing at the time. You can go from studying hands to studying arms since they’re more immediately connected, but you can’t study hands and then jump to learning perspective right after. Trust me you can learn perfectly fine with the resources online, and I’m sure you’re clever enough to do it :D
Mistakes don’t mean you “suck”  I’ve noticed that the two most common causes for art block are perfectionism and lack of self-confidence.  The two can often go in tandem which is worse :’D But let me remind you of something, you can fix your piece along the whole process. Use erasers, lasso tools, liquify , select, paint it all over etc If something looks off to you then you also know deep inside how to fix it. Useful ways to see what clunks: flip canvas horizontally (helps with placement, proportions), turn the image to grayscale (helps to check values and where your eye tends to look), look at your image in thumbnail size and ask yourself if it’s clear, see the pose’s silhouette and ask yourself if you can tell what the character is doing etc. Don’t fret, everything can always be fixed :)
Perfectionism, sometimes it stops you before you begin Perfectionism causes you to overwork a piece, it makes you draw less, it makes art stressful, it brings insecurity. Let’s remove it with a simple exercise. It can be combined with the “draw things from imagination” once you’ve drawn something you like: dont do line art, don’t shade it, keep it as simple and crude as possible and then...post it. Yes, post it. You’re not at your best? You’re only human, this will help you embrace that very human side of you. You make mistakes. So what? The more mistakes you make the more you know what you need to study and the better at art you become. Mistakes are there to show us what we need to learn. See them as another tool and not a sign of failure.
Make the process as enjoyable as possible: You like art. You love drawing. Never forget this. Otherwise why are you drawing if you don’t enjoy it? It’s easy to fall prey to the mentality of those relatable memes that “art= suffering” or “I can’t even draw the other eye”. No no no my friends, these messages are fueling your insecurities instead of overcoming them. Let me tell you what, art is fun. It is. Art is fun, because I decided to make it fun again. And you should decide on that too. Personally I adore lineart but my hand-eye coordination is lacking to do it digitally, so....I just skipped it. Yes. I skipped it. I do the sketch, I clean it up a bit and then jump onto color which I adore. It allowed me to draw more and more freely. When I draw I listen to music, make strokes with the rhythm, I take breaks often and I drink my favorite iced teas. If you don’t like coloring do it in grayscale, if you love lineart then do that etc It doesn’t mean you won’t learn your weak points in the future with studies and practice, but you won’t let your weaknesses prevent you from drawing at all. No no, you won’t let them. You draw because you want to, despite of them.
Don’t wait for inspiration, provoke it  Inspiration is not a divine and capricious muse. You make inspiration. It’s easy just collect all the things you like, music, artists, objects, characters, animals, patterns, plants etc Make boards on pinterest or similar sites, combine things you like. You like suits? You like birds? You can draw a bird in a suit, or a bird-inspired suit design, there is frankly a lot of ideas that can spring up from little things like these.
When a project stops being enjoyable either pause it for now or move on to the next thing. Pieces aren’t precious. They’re not “the one time I got x right” they are one of many. This advice goes mainly to hobbyists who can afford the luxury of passing to a new project. I have a WIP of a character who is overly complicated (I enjoy a challenge from time to time) sitting for half a month. I sometimes come back to it and add something... but as soon as it starts to create discomfort and insecurity instead of enjoyment I move onto something else. In the meantime I created 3 or 4 new pieces. If I had waited on finishing that piece I would have been severely creatively and physically exhausted. The art comes from you, not inspiration. The more art you make the better you become.

Art Advice #7 - How to draw a face (the basics)
Hi all! 
This week, as part of my Art Advice Tag, I’ll be giving some advice on how to draw faces!
A note is that this is not going to be a tutorial, but instead a guide on how to learn how to draw a face! I personally find that tutorials aren’t super useful, not to mention that there are thousands of tutorials on drawing already out there. So whether you want to be able to design your own characters, ... or just want to give your stick figures faces, I’m hoping this blog post can help you get on your way to drawing faces!
How to draw a face (the basics) ~
Part 1 - Dreaded Proportions 
I think most artists will tell you that proportions are the banes of their existence.
And although I don’t think you necessarily need to stick to them religiously (and it’s important to note that real faces rarely stick to proportions religiously either), I think it is important to have an understanding of them if you want to start drawing faces!

(this is a very basic sketch I did by the way, a quick google will give you versions of this diagram that are a lot more detailed & accurate lol!)
This image shows the general places on a face where features normally sit. So, eyes halfway down the head, corners of the mouth match up with the pupils when staring straight ahead, five eyes can fit between each side of the head, bottom of the nose lies halfway between the eyes and chin, etc. 
Top tip! Try not to confuse the top of the head to the hairline, as this can often make a face look too long! 
Of course, this becomes more complicated when you want to draw a face from another angle (which I won’t go into for this post). 
Face shape, eye size, nose size, etc, can also affect how you approach these rules. So use these proportions more as a guide than anything to follow religiously!
Part 2 - Face Shape
A lot of artists, myself included, gets caught in the ‘same face’ syndrome. Which is basically when all your characters and people you draw end up looking suspiciously alike. (Don’t feel too bad about this, by the way, since even big companies like Disney suffer from this lol!)
A way to prevent this is to diversify your face shapes.

These are a few quick examples, and my biggest piece of advice for this is to practise drawing as wide a range of faces as you can! Pick people of various races, sizes, genders, etc! 
This can be as simple as drawing people around you too, friends, family, colleagues, even yourself! 
Part 3 - Eyes
Similar to the last point, practising drawing a wide variety of eyes (differing in shape, colour, size, etc) will help you get a better grasp on how to draw them. 
Some more specific advise for this would be to map out where the actual eyeball is. This way, you’ll be able to figure out more effectively where to put things like the tear duct! 
Another thing to remember is the position of the pupil and iris, which can greatly impact the expression you’re going for. So, exposing more of the whites of the eye will make someone look scared/shocked, whereas less of the iris & pupil visible will look suspicious/shifty.

A final few things I want to comment on here is the position of eyelids, which can also greatly change the overall expression of a character. Eyelids differ from person to person, and can range from double, mono, hooded, deepset, etc. And as with all I’m talking about here, how the eyelid crease looks will change depending on the angle of the face. 
Part 4 - Nose
Noses are pretty confusing, if I’m being honest. 
One thing I remember learning from school was to use three circles to make up a forward facing nose. A bigger circle for the tip of the nose, and the a smaller one either side for the nostrils. This can help you to get an idea of how big you want your nose to be (and to check it fits with the proportions of the rest of the face). 
This method can also help to figure out the specific shape of the nose you want to draw. Placing the central circle lower than the other 2 will give the illusion of a bigger nose, whereas if it’s higher then it would look more like an upturned nose. Just have fun and play around with giving your noses interesting bridges and various sized nostrils, etc!

These are a few examples, but there are honestly endless combinations of noses you can experiment with!
Part 5 - Mouth
The first piece of advice I’d give you for drawing mouths, is to draw them in conjunction with the nose. Use the bit between the nose and mouth (which I just found out is called the philtrum lol) as a guide on how big or what shape to do the cupids bow as. 
I’d also recommend starting with the corners of the mouth, and then connecting them to for the middle of the mouth. This can help you get an understanding of what kind of expression you want (it often only takes a slight curl of the corner of the mouth in order to create some subtle change in feeling of the character). 
And something that I often do, is creating a subtle almost M shape for the centre of the mouth (think almost of a turtles mouth, but less extreme). This can give the lips more of a sense of 3 dimensionality than a simple line.

These are just some examples of how I draw lips with no references as a guide. Another point I would suggest is to include the shadow of the lips on the chin, which can also help you to map out the size and shape of the chin itself. 
I feel it’s important to note that I’ve only including hints for closed, mostly neutral, expressions. So if you want me to do another blog post talking about expressions (like how to draw smiles, or other open-mouthed expressions) then let me know!
Part 6 - Ears 
I’ll admit that ears are not my strong suit, so there isn’t a tonne of advice I can offer here. (I once had an hour long breakdown over how bad my paintings and drawings of ears are lol... I wish I was kidding but I’m not pfft)...
