How do you draw anthro faces? I’ve been trying to learn and struggling with the mouths and eyes in particular

Ahhh, generally I don't have a "way" to draw any specific face or feature. Anthros are so varied and different with the beaks and the fangs and such. I personally suggest to try breaking stuff down into simple 3D shapes (emphasis on the 3D) and then combining that with real photo refs. Here is a video on breaking down simple and complex shapes, I don't think it is entirely helpful but it's a good start.

Here is a little demo of what I do for anthro canine heads. It's kinda just a lot of liquify and repositioning, especially with the eyes. I actually wouldn't call myself an expert with face shapes cause I really just wing it. People may feel like my anatomy is super accurate because I shade in 3D shapes. I draw a sphere, I place a hexagonal cylinder for the snout, add the nose and then and that boomerang triangle slope to blend the bridge of the nose into the face. I make rounded or hexagonal shapes for the jowls on the muzzle. All these harsh edges get blended into the sphere head. (hopefully this helps)

Gonna rant a bit. I saw one set of beautiful anthro arts on another website. Sadly they were done in AI. I did left a comment, complimenting how beautiful these arts were but how sad it made me that they were AI arts.

The artist themselves was kind and polite, telling they use AI because they want to learn and be able to make game arts one day (but they too, apparently, with AI so...)

But then there was another user, AI "artist" too who replied to me that there's absolutely NO ARTIST who can draw anthros with detailed fur, goat like arm, lights, colors etc without editing or photoshopping. On the whole planet, absolutely none! This person clearly don't believe in people's skills when it comes on arts. Heck, I followed one artist on DA who drew ALL her arts traditionally and she drew, and still does, SUPER DETAILED FURRY ANTHROS! No photoshop, editing, nothing digital. Just her hands, paper and a set of color pencils.

Also, if people's art skills wouldn't had been amazing back in the days through mankind, we wouldn't have cave paintings, old amazing paintings or sculptures, ALL DONE BY HANDS IN TRADITIONAL WAY. NO AI, NO PHOTOSHOP OR EDITING.

Humans can learn amazing skills if they only want to. AI artists, maybe not all, just wants to take the easiest way / be lazy (and get lots of likes - like that other person who straight forward said it. That he uses AI to create furry arts to get hundreds of likes).

They also mocked my style / arts, saying they are not good enough to be used in AI arts - yet.

Like what the actual fuck?! I am pissed! I don't even want my arts to be used in AI arts by some lazy idiot (or at all). At least I draw EVERYTHING in my arts, from first sketch line to the last shade / light. Surely my skills are not as good as they could be. After all I'm self-taught, not gone in art school like some have. Not to mention I draw for fun, I draw to bring joy to my watchers, I draw therapy arts to myself, I like to keep my style easy and simple. My arts are a hobby, not professional thing or to fish a lot of likes. If my arts can make someone's day a bit better, then I've done my job! I never haven't taken my arts or skills too seriously, trying to improve them to the top.

Is there times when I wish I would put more effort to my arts, learn and study more, becoming better? Absolutely! But do I bother? Not really. Like I said, this is a hobby. I know I would burnout myself if I would start to force and pressure myself to do better, to learn more, to improve my skills. I mean I struggle to draw even now!

I do have some saved tutorials on Pinterest what I would like to try, yes, but still not in a way like if I would have a fire under my ass.

My pursuit of remaking every single slugcat splash art into my anthro au designs continues

I was planning to share this to my tumblr when I complete the other dream splashes but I suppose I can share them already as I've been juggling a lot of things in general wahhh

I'm told Monk shares some of Survivor's dreams so I'll have to make monk variations for those too aha

I'd have to redraw the iterators too for consistency sake. The particular splash above thankfully has moon separated from the holographic frame, though I'd have to figure out a bit on how to make that effect still.

Figuring out Monk's color for the splashes will be somewhat difficult, but I've taken the tests of doing colors not found in the splashes before. I'll probably give them a pink-ish shawl like the one they wore in Heretic.

Ahh the opening cutscene. This will be one leap out of the several I'd have to do. If I ever want to put out a demo, I have to complete this, the sleeping (which I already did), selection screens, and dreams and... wait... that's not a demo. That's the whole thing aha... I still want to at least complete the opening first still.

... Or I'll probably not make a demo. I have to make this in its entirety.

This cutscene is heartbreaking already as is, but the thing with anthro aus is that you are humanizing them a bit, therefore giving them more emotions and expressions. You can depict Monk as either brave-faced (which I did here) or more frightened and shocked when reaching out to Survivor.

I also integrated a bit of my HC- this is where my Survivor got their head scar.

I didn't know Hunter is unable to use passages at the time but I still want to draw Hunter in the passages. It just feels right having all three vanilla cats represented. (I would do the same for Downpour cats once I get to them.)

I sometimes wonder how the original artists feel about me doing this, Flower especially (considering I'm an art helper in the discord and I often show my art there and in the helper chat). "Ahh yes, I will study your art style closely and turn it into furry"

What motivates me in this project is me legit wanting this mod for myself and for funsies, but also I am really adamant in seeing reactions from people who don't know the stuff I make lol.

I have ideas on this project beyond just replacing all splash, but at the moment, they look a bit ambitious. I must focus on the base things first.

I've been asked this a couple of times within past few weeks and I haven't managed to come up with an answer until now.

The thing is, I don't really know what my characters would look like as humans myself, and an overwhelming part of me doesn't want to find out ´v`' I'm not sure if their designs would translate to human form very well at all.

I do appreciate the fact that you asked though! I understand it's agonizing when you want to draw something outside of your area of expertise, it's the same thing with me and making fan art of human characters. I'm sincerely very flattered that you liked my guys enough to consider drawing them. Unfortunately I don't think I'm fully comfortable with humanizations of my characters, at the time at least.

This one is a very sweet slice of life EG Sunset x Scitwi one, its got a lovely interpretation of the characters; With the expected but very welcome pairing of cool punk girl and adorable nerd. and i plan on doing fanart of it! The writer knows her stuff nyeheh =v= This is the best "Rarity and Applejack get drunk together and mushy stuff happens" Fic i seen out there, a trope that is surprisingly recurring, ive seen others like this! But this one is the best, hands down. A mutual of mine wrote it and its just a wonderful time! This one is a super fun horror esque rarijack fic where rarity is haunted and applejack tries to help her. its got fantastic prose and its just damn lovely! I've done fanart of it before, its a sweet one, and its also just a really interesting direction to take Rarity's character that i'm almost sad to not see more of. Overpowered rarity whennnn Although i don't ship twilight and trixie, this fic of this pairing, that is still ongoing, is fucking hilarious. The comedy has wonderful timing, and the takes on the characters are endlessly entertaining

This fic isn't rly horse yuri but its 1000 words of Sunset Shimmer being the utter insane badass i always wished she was; and I will continue writing her like so. I'm glad to see another writer also concidered the same

If you're like me, and think that sex is funny, this fic and it's two sequels are for you. Sunset Shimmer throws a party of deranged proportions that ends in debauchery and indulgence that nearly destroys the fabric of equestria; and it's consequences are hilarious. This is a rly cute short trans rarity fic, and it has a delightful amount of rarijack within. utterly adorbs. Almost sad to see it so short! Finaly, i'd be amiss to not recommend the fics i've written myself; Here are my two biggest and most awesomest i've done: The Return of Midnight Sparkle Is a take on MLP where there is no EG universe, and rather, Sunset Shimmer is brought to the mane 6 per twilight's request, and she absolutely does not feel like she belongs, and its a narrative about her desperate attempts of fitting in; and dealing with the fallout of her failings. I put an inordinate amount of effort on this one, even drawing covers for each chapter. I went DERRANGED with the idea of "what if sunset shimmer was on FIM and also it was gay as fuck." i basicaly wrote an entire season of the show and its finale. If you're a fan of Sunset Shimmer and Twilight Sparkle as a pairing, cannot recommend enough. Here's some of the art i made for it. Insanely sick chapter covers im super proud of The Princess and the Peasant is an all you can eat buffet for Rarijack enjoyers, I've taken the baseline of the story of "shrek 1" and i made it about Applejack and Rarity; And also expanded upon it and fixed some of the annoyances with the og story (No third act misunderstanding! On the contrary. Third act understanding. SEX.) The humble farmer Applejack has to rescue fair Princess Rarity from a dragon keep, and escort her across Equestria to ensure that her farm and family are safe. Of course, on the journey, those two grow a bit close... Too close. VEry very very veyr close. Here's a comic i've made of one of my fave scenes of it lmaooo Cannot express enough; If you're a fan of rarijack? This fic is EVERYTHING for you.

How did you come up with your werewolf? Did you have a clear vision of them? Or did you go through a couple versions before perfecting them?

Those are actually my preferred pronouns! They/them but I also accept he/him. I'm non binary, trans masc. If I ever get misgendered I try not to take it personally because I don't actually label it anywhere. The only thing I have on my profiles is 'Enby'. So Naoma started out very different when I was a kid. But they have grown with me as I've gotten older.

^ This is the first character I used for myself a LOOOOONG time ago.

^This version I used for a really long time and made some minor adjustments a bit later on.

^Minor changes, got rid of the gold and just made the limbs black, added a stripe and tail pattern.

^Another set of minor changes, but started drawing more anthro rather than feral. But because people were getting too much NSFW art WITHOUT my permission I decided to make a whole new design for them.

^ I spent DAYS trying to figure out a design for Naoma. I wanted more natural colors and pattern. So after like 2 weeks or so I came up with this design.

^I ended up making making their limbs black again and stopped using gradients.

^But with a friends input and my own want, I changed up the pattern, added more red and changed the limbs color. It's been like this ever since. (Ref base is by twistedhound) Naoma means everything to me. They are me in every single way. I draw them being an Idiot, I draw them being sad, angry, hungry, depressed. The scars they have, I also have. Eye color, eyebrow buzz. hair style(The fluff being tied back into a little pony tail/bun). So this is them now. I know this thread was long and I'm really sorry for that, but I hope it was fun to see the evolution of my fursona. Okay, so to preface this I'm a hobbyist artist who commits anatomical atrocities for shits & giggles, and this is by no means a professional/accurate way to draw animals, humans, or any combination of the two. This started as me struggling to explain how I draw instead of just sticking to the most brutally honest explanation of "I just wing it", but having to draw out different parts of anatomy and how proportional they are to each other was hugely helpful to help me re-evaluate how I draw animals. So thank you.

I'll be mostly using Lamb and Narinder for reference, because the brainrot is strong and they're what I draw the most.

A lot of my style comes from the fact that I'm primarily an animal artist, not a human one. In fact, COTL's the first fandom that I've drawn anthro characters in, and it was a trial trying to adapt what I know to upright animals.

Best way to get a better grip on anatomy is to sketch from references. Nothing that can really replace practice. It's helpful to look at skeleton and muscle diagrams and get a good idea of where body parts are in relation to each other. Then, search up actual references and try to overlay the shapes and bones onto them. When I'm not sure if something of mine is proportioned correctly, I just measure something with my fingers and compare.

Some specific things to note: generally, the hind legs of quadrupeds have a larger metatarsal area (the large flat portion of your foot) compared to humans--that's why people say cats tip-toe. Humans have theirs relatively short; how long you make that area largely determines how Creature the design looks. I know some people who draw purely human legs, some who draw human legs then add the extra foot length on top, all of that's fine. Personally, I will shorten the leg length above the knee to compensate. In quadrupeds, the knee will draw up very close to the torso area, as you can see in the jackal doodle.

Another note: when standing, it's important give the impression that there's a center of balance. When standing straight, a straight line drawn from the hip to the foot of a leg should be relatively perpendicular to the ground.

(Of course this all goes out the window the moment anything other than standing straight is involved but w/e.)

A lot of the fundamentals carry over between my quadruped and anthro art: the general shapes, the proportions, etc. One thing I noticed while sketching Lamb is that sheep have a femur that's almost entirely against their torso, and their legs are mostly just the tarsal parts (sorry if I'm butchering the anatomy).

For the arms/forelimbs, I mainly just use human anatomy with a repurposed number of fingers. It's easier, plus I can't exactly have a sheep with sheep limbs carry an axe around. I mean it's doable, just kinda awkward.

After getting the basics down, I move to more complex poses. One thing I struggle massively with is anything involving knees--kneels were something that eluded me for months. There are things that humans do that look very awkward when you factor in other animals' anatomies. I'm not super good with action poses so I can't really say how I've overcome that limitation, because I haven't :'D.

When I'm doing more simplistic poses, I just result resort to drawing a slightly bent line and calling it a day. You don't see much outside clothing anyways.

Last thing I found interesting: because of the weight distribution, the positioning of the arms in relation to the torso is different in bipeds and quadrupeds. Drawing anatomy with arms that kinda come forward and legs spread apart give designs a more animalistic vibe to me.

Baldur's Gate 3, via Osmosis

So I think I played the first Baldur's Gate game for like an hour at a friend's house back in college, and all I remember about it was how delighted I was by the miniature giant hamster. I didn't even know there was a second game until I started hearing people get excited about the third one. That's about the sum of my knowledge of this franchise.

So without more ado, here's what my tumblr dash has taught me about these blorbos (I got @malaloba to huck the screenshots at me, so I didn't spoil myself on the names)

I want to say this one is Shadowheart, but that's too on the nose. She's probably .... Mythrin... Mithras... Mithotyn... Nope, I haven't got it.

She looks grouchy, and like she has a very good reason to be grouchy, and I would assume she's a combat class from her armour, but that's all I've got.

Gale (or Halsin) I know this one! He's the one who turns into a bear in The Cutscene that broke the internet for a few days. That means he'd be a Druid, right? I think he cross classes or something, though.

I hope the furries are having a great time drawing him as an anthro bear with a very large weenie.

Astarion! This vampire twink was all over my dash long before the game was released. Apparently he has a tragic backstory and is a jerk about it in a way that is either annoying or endearing, depending on the player's opinion of vampire twinks. His main role in the game, however, seems to be comically failing to pick locks. This means he's a Thief. Apparently the thing with the bear just had Astarion as the player character, and he isn't canonically dating the bear guy. Oh well.

Halsin (or Gale) The Other One who is Not a Bear. I would have said Bard for his class, but he's glowing a bit much for that here, so maybe a caster? I feel like he's more popular in areas of Tumblr that don't cross my dash.

Karlach or Karlak or something (not Karkat, that's a Homestuck thing).

Lesbians love her! She is large and angry and apparently really easy to romance just by approving of her chopping things with her axe. I think she was a child soldier? I see a lot of jokes about her crappy ex. I think her ex is actually her god and not her ex, though. Anyway, she seems like a prototypical Barbarian, good for her.

Laz'el. Lae'zel. La'zael. Something along those lines. I've seen treatises on her backstory and characterization, and she sounds like a really interesting character. Grew up in a cult of some kind, got dead or something, got abandoned by a crappy god (who might have also gotten dead or something), and is now wandering around trying to figure out how to exist in a world that isn't a cult. Apparently Other Players don't like her and dont't get what's up with her, which is a sore point for her fans (It's very possible that I'm mixing up portions of her backstory and fan reception with Karlach's) Her nose weirds me out (some uncanny valley thing between a skeleton lack-of-nose and a nose-nose), but I think she's pretty neat.

Ok, so if the blue lady at the top of this post isn't Shadowheart, then this one is Shadowheart. When I first saw the name Shadowheart, I thought it was someone's OC, and then I thought it was a generic name for the player character. From what I can gather, she's Ebony Dark'ness Dementia Raven Way with the stupid scraped off. She seems to be younger than most the other characters; she and the red tiefling are the kiddos of the group (Astarion doesn't count, because vampire). I think she grew up all sheltered in a weird little cult, too. Did ALL these characters grow up in weird cults? Is that a theme? Did I hear one backstory and apply it to a dozen different characters?

I happen to know for sure that this guy's name is Wyll. Good for me.

I don't know beans about him but I suspect he might be my favourite character when I do finally get around to playing, just from how his peronality is conveyed in fanart.

I get the impression he's the Only Sane Man to all these characters who grew up in cults and divorced dead gods and got vampire'd and whatnot, but he also has horns in like half the fanart and screenshots and is clearly Haunted (metaphorically, figuratively, literally, probably all of the above), so who knows.

As for the second figure here, I know the premise of the game is you've all got brainworms, who are in leage with a mindflayer con man who you can bone but who is also running some sleezy marketing scam, so maybe that's the brainworm made manifest?

I also see a lot of talk about character called Dark Urge, and the fan art doesn't look like that, but if Dark Urge is a manifested brainworm, then it could take various forms.

LoZ - Link's Attractiveness

Am I the only one who feels like, the more androgynous that Link gets, the less attractive I think he is?

Like, Twilight Link was, by far, the hottest Link. But then again, he was also the most physically masculine of the Links too.

I dunno about ya'll, but I know which design I prefer! It's the goat herder on the right in case you were in any way confused.

I don't know why they keep designing the Links more & more femininely. Though, I do remember reading something about one of the designers or something. Apparently, he asked his wife or whatever how she would make Link more attractive & she said what amounted to "make him look more like a girl" & I'm just sitting there thinking to myself, "please, don't."

Like, maybe Japanese women just prefer them with girly hips & bones like a bird, but not me. Which, looking at it, this seems to be indicative of the Sōshokukei Danshi (草食系男子, grass-eater men) trend that's become so big in Japan. Which, itself, is just something I'm very much not into. I just don't want a man who uses more cosmetics than I do, okay? I simply don't see it as attractive.

Like, why not just admit that they wanna date girls? Because that's what it seems like.

I just want another Link with abs, ya'll. Being traditionally masculine isn't a bad thing & shouldn't be treated as such.

I don't care if he's short (I mean, I'd like a tall Link, but I can live without one), but please give me a more masculine Link. Like, he doesn't even need to be uber muscular either, just don't make him so damn girlish, okay??

Like, I get that part of the appeal for a lot of people is that they can put themselves in his place & making him as androgynous as possible allows as many people as is possible to be able to fit into his place. But for me, personally, that's just not the draw.

I'm just not that into the whole reader or player insert thing because I like myself in reality where I am. When I play or read shit, I'm not doing it to read about or play myself unless it's a farming sim or some-such, I'm doing it to read about or play someone else.

Like, yeah, there will always be a little bit of "how would I do this" in it, but ultimately what I'm invested in is not me. I'm just not that self-obsessed & I like it that way.

All I'm saying, ya'll, is that masculinity is hot.

That's likely part of why so many are simping over Ganondorf. Because, for all his evilness, he's the most physically masculine person in damn near every game he appears in. Same with Sidon, he's pretty damn masculine too, just in a different way. You could even say that Rauru is also pretty masculine in his own way, just not the way that Ganondorf or Sidon are. Rather, he's more so in the way that a wise king is & even though I'm not really into the anthro thing unless it's werewolves (I own up to my flaws), I can definitely see why a lot of fans simp for him.

Now, don't get me wrong, Link is masculine in his own way. Trust me, there's a lot masculine about being a hero who helps people & saves the princess. And even just that sort of masculinity is very hot. He's just not very masculine physically. Especially with those hips. He's got too girly hips & he doesn't have the right build to make up for it the way that Rauru does.

Even Twilight Link wasn't extremely masculine.

Edit: Apparently, this post sparked some sort of ire? She insisted that I was being a bigot towards Japanese men & the Japanese culture as a whole, which... really doesn't sound right.

I thought all I did here was state my preferences.

Woe Cult of the lamb OC be upon ye

I've been trying to embrace my cringe so. But the real reason I'm posting this is because I have 8,000 COTL sketches in various states of finish and if I don't post something I'll lose traction so get creatured. May post more of this guy maybe.

Some rambles under cut

Man this guy has been through so many changes. I made him back when I first got really into cult of the lamb to help me experiment with shipping. This was pre sins of the flesh, pre leshycat popularity and I don't fuck with incest so OCs were one of the only option and man I went hard.

Now he's settled down as a character a bit. I'm more focused on his role as a sort of thinly worn yet content caretaker. That doesn't mean he can't get around a little now and then, though, when the urge strikes me.

For his design I basically took everything I liked In A Creature and slapped it onto one Guy™️. I never really did furry/anthro art pre cotl, though I dabbled in monsters, so this was really new to me at the time. (Still is, tbh.) So yeah. Bat ears, some little antenna feeler things, spidery mouth and paws, fangs, four arms, toe beans, fluff and fur, freckles, somehow. Literally just anything that makes me boogie in a fella.

I reeeeally wanted to make this post with more drawings but I'm trying really hard not to burn out. Another social media page of mine lies dead because I burnt myself out trying to chase algorithms. I want to make a nice lil balance between post all the time always and literally never.

Yeah so I'm kinda ya/mato here except Idk whether to keep the height diff becuz i never related to being tall I woukd not see myself in that role. But since I alrsady have ideas of my op s/i having tiangou (chinese mytho dog who eats the sun&moon) which to me is very similar to ya/mato's Japanese mytho wolf devil fruit, It's pretty fitting. I think that changing into anthro/hybrid form would make wren bigger and taller so I could still keep the aspect of being slightly bigger than kia/we and being able to pick him up muahahsh but maybe not as large as ya/mato ok im just rambling here.
