I've read some posts made by other fans that said that they believe Tara is also unhinged like her sister. I want to point out that I don't think so because of the different way they kill. Tara does feel some satisfaction when killing Ethan, that's true, but she stabs him once and that's it. She stabs to end a threat as soon as possible, while also of course avenging her friends and her own freedom from this chain of psychopaths she found herself in.

Sam does not stab to kill, she stabs to hurt. When she both goes for Ethan and Bailey she does not go directly for the kill. Sam stabs for the pure pleasure of inflicting pain upon her victims, she takes her sweet time to make it as painful and as satisfying as she can. If it weren't for Tara pulling her back from the brink both times she would've kept going again and again. It's about the kill itself, not ending a threat.

Now that does not mean I don't think Tara has her own issues cause my girlie absolutely went and basically punched the shit out of everyone in this movie, but I do believe it's different.

Honestly it’s so interesting to see Ruby lashing out like she has and the dynamic between her and Yang in volumes 8 and 9 because like… she and Yang are so similar in a lot of ways that weren’t really obvious to a lot of people until these volumes, I think.

I’ve seen a few people point out that the only times we’ve really seen Ruby letting things out are in the red trailer, in which she tears apart a pack of beowolves, and in the emerald forest, where she gets upset with Weiss and cuts down a tree. After that, she’s team RWBY’s leader, she becomes RNJR’s leader, she started leading everybody when Oz left and Qrow shut down. And then she’s speaking to the entire world about Salem and magic and lost history. Her rhetorical question about it being a good time to let it all out is no wonder, really.

Then there’s Yang—she lashes out a few times throughout the series, but when I think of Yang lashing out, it’s not really with her semblance in mind, it’s things like when she got upset with Raven when she asked her to take her to Qrow, or when she snapped about Blake coming back in Mistral. And of course, Yang has a similar experience to Ruby’s being the leader, in a way—she had to raise her when Raven left and Tai shut down.

Yang always had to be the one to pick Ruby up when they were growing up, and now that Ruby’s the team leader, throughout the series we’ve seen her having to pick her teammates up and keep leading them. We see Yang masking her feelings with humor, and Ruby masking hers by being an ideal huntress, and continuing to follow this path that’s been laid out for her.

Having their experiences directly compared like that, Yang’s responsibility for family vs Ruby’s responsibility for this whole team that’s trying to save the world, it starts to make sense just how similar those experiences are—and how important their differences are. It makes sense why Yang is focused on who she can save here and now in volume 8, while Ruby is focused on the big picture.

It’s why when they both break down due to the hound in volume 8, Yang picks herself back up to try to cheer Ruby up, and says what might help in that moment (but ends up comparing Ruby to Summer). It’s why Ruby is focused on the implications of the hound’s existence and what it means for those with silver eyes, and for Summer (while perhaps not realizing that Yang is in the position of a mother figure in that moment). And then neither of them have the time to process that information properly, or help each other process it, because the next new problem is happening.

Now, the Ever After has ripped everything out from under them, and they’re both being forced to face their problems.

This story of a hero you read as a kid isn’t true, there’s no clear path for you to follow now.

You know what it is to feel loved, but the only way not to lose that is by letting your feelings out too.

Both of these things apply to both Ruby and Yang, in a way. It’s a messy situation, and the only way they’re going to figure it out is together, by relying on each other and their teammates, not just on one person.
