The Chat really loves Bowser
Luigi sat by his desk, getting his cameras and headphones ready for a live stream. The soft glow of the studio lights illuminated the room, creating an atmosphere of anticipation and excitement. His heart with a mix of nervousness and exhilaration as he prepared to connect with his audience.
As he adjusted the angle of his cameras, Luigi couldn't help but reflect on how far he had come. What started as a simple hobby had now transformed into a full-fledged career. His passion for gaming and technology had propelled him into the world of live streaming, where he could share his experiences and connect with like-minded individuals from all corners of the globe.
He still can’t believe he acquired such a huge fanbase.  A lot of people seemed to like his personality and actually liked his commentary; even his videos on mushroom foraging garnered thousands of views within the hour. It made Luigi very proud of himself; plus, his interactions with his fans have been nothing but enjoyable.
The door to his room opened. He looked over his shoulder and smiled at Bowser. The red-haired Koopa stepped into his room, then kissed his forehead. “I’m going to go pick up Junior,” he said.
“Okay, be safe!”
He reached up and scratched his chin, earning some happy chirps from him before he walked out again. Luigi smiled softly at his boyfriend’s retreating back before returning to his previous activities. As soon as he sat down, he switched into his streamer mode. The screens came to life and the cameras started recording. Luigi grinned, “Welcome back everybody! Tis I, WeegeBoard9000!” he said while laughing. The chat immediately started rolling with comments as people greeted him and made donations.
With a swift motion, Luigi's fingers danced across the keyboard, skillfully navigating through the game menus. As the game loaded, he took a moment to acknowledge some of the comments popping up on the screen.
"Hey WeegeBoard9000! Long time no see!" one viewer exclaimed.
"Luigi, you're my favorite streamer! Can't wait to see what you have in store for us today!" another chimed in.
*Peach_hime donated 30 bits! Hi, Weeg! Gimme ten minutes and I’ll hop on.*
“Ew, the gamer twink’s back.” said the very obvious account of Wario.
Luigi sneakily kicked him out before moving on with his stream. He delved into the game, he skillfully maneuvered through its challenges while simultaneously keeping an eye on the chat. He responded to questions, shared tips and tricks with fellow gamers, and engaged in lighthearted banter with his audience.
*King donated 2500 bits! Stay hydrated darling ;)*
Ohh~ his highness has made an appearance!
Man, i wish i had a stream daddy 😔
Where iz this mf getting so much coin??!
Comments of similar caliber followed. Luigi tried to hide his blush, recognizing his boyfriend’s account. Bowser always makes it a personal mission to donate something during his streams. Luigi couldn't help but feel a surge of warmth in his chest as he read the comments praising Bowser's generosity. It was moments like these that reminded him why he fell in love with Bowser in the first place. Despite his tough exterior, Bowser had a heart of gold.
*prince donated 100 bits! HiWEEGIE!”
OMG IT’S DA BOIIII
The lil man’s here too
Baby boi, protecc the bean
Luigi chuckled and thanked Junior for the donation; he probably asked his dad to donate for him too. With the chat taken care of for a bit, the streamer continued his game for several hours, tuning out the outside world.
.
.
.
The stream was in full-swing now as Luigi and a few online friends were collecting items to fight a boss. Luigi was so engrossed with preparations that he didn’t hear the noise of the front door opening or the familiar pitter patter of feet on the wooden floor. The door opened a bit as Junior yelled a greeting before closing the door. The man glanced back at the noise, smiled, then proceeded with the game.
Without him noticing, Bowser went into his room. At the sight of him, the chat went absolutely ballistic.
HELLO???
Hunk alert, hello🥵
NO SHELL? FOR FREE??
Ayo, who dat 🫦
Luigi glanced at the last comment then swiveled his chair around; Bowser wrapped his bulky arms around him and kissed the top of his head. “Dinner’s gonna be ready in a few minutes, so don’t stay too long,” he whispered into his hair. Luigi’s face and ears reddened at the gesture, considering Bowser was, in fact, shell-less and basically pulled his face into his chest. He thinks he replied… Probably. The donations going off was what called his attention.
DILF 🥵
Muscle man and he cooks? Luigi, bag him.
dilfdilfdilf
Weeg has that unspoken rizz
Luigi looked up. “Whoa, whoa. Calm down everybody,”
His subscribers didn’t listen, sending many sporadic comments and blush-inducing questions. The donation bell kept blowing up.
*BooKing donated 500 bits! Luigi, u have all of dat to urself?!*
*BadBitchPrincess donated 1500 bits! L ultimate rizzlord😌*
Can he come back pls?
Bring back the dilf, ty.
Glory o glory, what a helluva way to die 🫡
🫡
Luigi nervously snorted and pulled his hat over his head, giving up on taking back control. Guess the chat really likes Bowser.

Oh no...
Tumblr media
(This is the only ballet I've seen live, so, yeah!)
It's time for the nutcracker casting decision, and everyone's gathered around the list.
Luigi's Clara (No surprise there.)
Peach is the... Nutcracker? Wait, what?
And Bowser's the Rat King?!?! Come on!
Bowser storms over to the director. Why? He has a son! What will his son think?
"Do you want to stay employed as the villain or out of a job?"
"Why the rat king, though?"
"Honestly? You were too big to play the nutcracker."
Alright, maybe Bowser had gotten used to being the prince.
But now he's the big scary villain.
Oh boy.
Meanwhile, Luigi is on the phone with his mom who is being supportive in the worst way possible.
"Oh, my little boy is gonna be famous just like his brother! You're gonna be like that man who dresses like a woman on the TV, oh, what's his name?"
(Holding his temples) "Rue Paul?"
"Yeah, Rue Paul! Soon you'll have your own TV show, just like him! You might even star in one of your brother's movies!"
"Mom, I'm just playing Clara, I'm not famous."
"But soon you will be! This will be the biggest thing you've ever been in!"
"Okay Mom, I love you."
"I love you too, sweetheart!"
He hangs up the phone and sighs.
Scenes regarding practice and stuff!
Bowser starts noticing that Luigi has been staying late.
He starts staying later as well.
He will try to start up conversation, but questions will be answered in one sentence.
"So, how's your family?"
"Good."
"You excited to see them?"
"Mhm-hm."
"How about your brother?"
"He's coming."
"Are you okay?"
"I'm fine, now can we please just dance?"
It's getting closer to the preformence.
One day, as the studio's winding down, Luigi gets a phone call and leaves early.
He then arrives late the next day.
Everyone is asking if he's okay, but he just wants to get to dancing.
Yet again, he's the last to leave, except for Bowser, who is stays late as well to see if he's okay.
Luigi doesn't talk, he just runs through his parts.
It's dark by the time Luigi starts packing up, and Bowser's just sitting, waiting for him to finish.
Luigi sits down next to him and starts to take off his shoes.
"You know, whatever's going on, you can tell me."
Luigi shrugs. "It's a me problem."
"A you problem, eh?"
He nods.
"This is the latest you've stayed."
"No, I once slept here."
"This is the latest I've seen you stay."
"Yeah."
"What's up with you?"
He sighs. "My brother's not coming for Christmas."
"What's he like?"
They talk about Mario while Luigi gets dressed.
They walk out of the studio together before finally parting ways.
3 days before the show, Luigi has to pick up his parents from the airport.
Day of the actual show.
Luigi's parents have been there since 4.
At like, 5:30(?) A bunch of security guards show up with a very tired looking Pauline and a very hyper Junior.
The preformence goes well.
After the final bow, they go out to see their families.
Junior is not the least bit bothered by the fact his father was the villain. In fact, he thinks it's awesome as hell!
Meanwhile, Luigi's parents are drowning him in affection.
Anyway, I'm tired and didn't have a plan for this chapter really? Idk. Also I have answers for questions if you have any.
@fishtale88 @dragonwritersblog @digimonandpokemon um, let me know if you do or don't want me to tag you.

Mario Bros: Elemental AU The Opening pt 2
Gently placing him in Marianna's open arm, he was surprised when the newborns quieted down. "Well, well, looks like they share a bonded flame." Salvatore said with a smile. "That one's flame is weak." Gina commented, looking over Luigi. "But at least it's not the cursed color. We don't need another one of those in the family." Giovanni's younger brothers, Tony and Arthur, overheard this comment. They had come upstairs with the hopes to see their nephews. Arthur turned and looked at his twin. Tony pulled his hood tighter and stepped away. "Tell Marianna I said congratulations." he said. His blue flame faintly lit his face, reflecting off his glasses. Arthur took a step forward, reaching to take his hand. "C'mon bro," he urged, "just this once, come with me." Tony looked up, hopeful. Taking a deep breath, he nodded and let his younger brother lead him to the bedroom. Arthur let out a teary laugh when he saw the twins and he hurried to the bedside. "They're beautiful." he said. "Tony, look…" he reached out, expecting Tony to be right beside him, but his hand met empty air. His heart sank as glancing at the door, he saw him nervously retreating. Giovanni had turned away from the door, and Gina was glaring at where Tony had been standing. She scuttled off, muttering in Firish about 'having to bless the room'. Salvatore slipped past her, ignoring her mumblings. His cane tapped lightly on the stairs, his rich, red flame casting a warm glow on the walls. Once downstairs, he rapped on the door that led to the back room. "It's Papa," he called. The door creaked open, and Tony stood aside to allow his father to enter. Salvatore sat on one of the metal crates that was stored there and looked around. "This room, it will make a good studio." he observed. "I look forward to seeing what you make." He leaned on his cane as his middle son sat across from him, pulling his hood back. Blue flames danced faintly around his black curly hair, playfully lapping at the rims of his glasses. "Are the boys healthy?" he asked, not looking at Salvatore. "Luigi's flame is a bit low, but both are well. Come up tonight, once everyone is in bed. Come see them and merge with them, welcome them to the world." Tony recoiled, hands to his chest. "I'll come see them, but merging, what if Giovanni found out?" Salvatore shook his head and stood. "This must change someday, my son. This hold the old ways have on this family, it will snuff us out." He offered his hand. Tony went to reach for him but pulled away sharply as Gina's voice was heard calling for Salvatore. Salvatore's flame dimmed sadly as he lightly touched Tony's arm before leaving the room.
To be continued, and posted fully on Ao3 soon!

Straight up self insert
Tumblr media
meet Hannah, she’s a Hider artist, she’s a self insert character because of reasons.
Hannah is a kind and soft spoken girl who doesn’t do well in social environments, she’s usually just hiding out in the Studio room of the Gloomy Manor, though don’t try to rush her, she will get mad. She loves all things artistic ranging from painting to music, dance, modeling, woodworking and even just plain ‘ol regular drawing, she loves it all, she even sewed her shirt and smock from fabrics she found in Evershade.
Before the events of Dark Moon, she was only really known as just the one painter Hider in the Studio, not much is really known about her, she never even mentioned her name so no one even properly knew her.
When the Moon broke, she is one of the first few Hiders Luigi encounters, she’s seen painting the portrait of another Hider, though this Hider is rather impatient and gets on her nerves, so she painted a mustache on him out of annoyance, she then spent most of her time in the vault. {Like how I do whilst playing the game, like seriously I love the vault in LM DM}
After the moon is fixed, she realizes that maybe she should probably express herself more, since she now knows that living humans are also present in the Valley she calls home. She consults the only women she knows in the entirety of Evershade, The Three Sisters, only one was available to ask at the time though, Lucinda. Hannah basically got the idea of Accessorizing like how she did when alive from her, though since Hannah never wore any hair accessories, she had to compromise, so she searched for some medium cyan and Forest green fabrics and threads to make a tee-shirt and smock.

Read the full article

(fonte Favolosianni.it).
A Man On The Road/Dream.
L’album conteneva poi l’inedito You Can’t Stop the Music, del quale fu girato un video musicale.
Diumvana

Giulio Cesare - Rolling Stones
Tumblr media
Etichetta: Matilde Dischi - MAIONESE project Radio date: 7 aprile 2023
helen gravely, jesus fucking christ girl. he's not that into you. you were living the (un)life, had a huuuge richly decorated penthouse all for yourself, in a relatively beautiful (for a haunted place) luxury hotel, which included a movie studio, a stage, a dance club, a museum, several floors dedicated to a massive garden, etc. literally you could have had it all (KEPT it all since you apparently already had it) if you had not decided to simp for king boo. who clearly didn't even like you back and was just using you. like, girl.
speaking of that huge haunted hotel, it's kinda interesting that it was so full of ghosts. did they all die in there at the same time, like was there some tragic accident? or was the place just exceedingly accident prone and a lot of people died there for some reason? even if you take headcanons where only the human-looking ghosts are actually fully dead humans, that's still like. fifteen ghosts. wtf happened in this hotel that between fifteen and ???-hundred people died there...
complete subject change. i made a wonderful discovery while failing the king boo fight over and over lmfao. he's too strong to be affected by the flashlight, but he still doesn't like it. if you flash the strobe at him, he flails his lil nubby arms. doesn't stop attacking. just kinda flaps his arms like "nuuuh"

✎ He's probably the one who planned it in the first place
✎ I feel like his pjs could def just pass as normal clothes ✎ A hoodie/shirt w/ some kind of school on it. Could be Saint Dimas,, could be one his parents, uncle or sister went to ✎ Either sweat pants or plaid pj pants- but not the red ones.  ✎ Brings one of his plushies bcus he cant sleep w/out them (and im not saying its a plushy of Teenie the teen but also im not saying its not a plushy of Teenie the teen)
✎ Normal was originally going to offer to bring the snacks then he realized his grandma would probably give him vegan snacks so he passed the responsibility off to Taylor
✎ Just brought a bunch of Disney channel classic movies
ȯ Out of all the ones he brought he'd probably offer either Teen Beach Movie or a High School Musical movie to watch
Scary :
✎ A black rich widow robe w/ a satin sleep mask  ✎ She's also probably just wearing a sports bra and shorts under that- like she could go to the gym w/out the robe and ppl would be like "oh yeah shes just here to work out" ✎ Has a "creepy" lookin stuffy. Like,, floppy head,, patches all over,, eye falling off,, its probably purple && a bunny

General sleepover hc's
✎ Normal && Taylor are a Just Dance duo and they fuckin kill it every time
✎ Speaking of Just Dance: Normals the only one who can do that one part in the Rasputin dance
✎ Back when Normal,, Taylor && Link were younger & friends they had these sleepover traditions and now they're trying to wrap Scary into them
✎ One of the games Taylor brings is Mario Cart so-
╚» Link - Luigi / Rosalina ( When Normal wants to do a princess trio ) ,, Scary - Dry bones / Peach ( when Normal convinces her so they can be the trio w/ the princesses ) ,, Normal - Daisy / Lakitu ( the dude who had the wrong way sign),, Taylor - Wario / Miku  ✎ When the three play as the princesses they all gang up on Taylor and he gets so mad
✎ Taylor knows cheats for the game and still loses
✎ Order of closest to 1st - closest to 12th : Scary,, Normal,, Taylor - Link ( they always tie and it pisses Taylor off bcus Link has never played while Taylor has played it a bunch of times )
✎ Scary dared Taylor to lock pick one of the doors and he ended up getting cursed again
✎ Normal comments on Scarys pjs and says smth along the lines of "You look like you'd be wandering the halls of a victorian mansion" and she considers that one of the best compliments she's ever received
✎ At some point May accidentally walks into D.A.D.D.I.E.S. during their sleepover for whatever reason and Normal offers to let her stay and join the sleepover
ȯ He texted her an invite when he first thought of the sleepover but May probably has Normal on silent

So... this photoset started as a brilliant idea, but finding photos turned out to be near impossible... Therefore, here’s a mediocre photoset on a theme that interest me a lot (hahaha): British performers starring both in Which Witch (left) and in Phantom of the Opera (right).
Maria Kesselman: She was the alternate Maria Vittoria Farnese (the lead female role) in Which Witch in 1992. She was also the original Christine understudy in POTO in 1986-1988. A rare combo of a pointe-dancing coloratura soprano with acting skills, she remains one of my favourites in both roles to this day.
Graham Bickley: He starred as Bishop Daniel, the lead male role in Which Witch in 1992. He was also the one featured in the cast album and DVD. Although he never *technically* starred in POTO, one of the first things he did after WW was to record the studio cast album of POTO with Claire Moore as Christine. Many of you have thus heard him as the Phantom, but not seen him. In lack of POTO photos I share a second one from WW, with Maria Kesselman.
Tim Morgan: He starred as “Archdeacon” in Which Witch in 1992, as well as understudying the lead Cardinal Gonzaga and the supporting role of The Pope. I *think* this photo shows him, but frankly finding any cast photos from WW is hard. He joined POTO sometime in the 2000s, and has been there (on and off) since. He is also in the current revival. In the past he’s understudied the Phantom and Firmin, and played Don Attilio. He’s currently Lefèvre and u/s Firmin.
John Ayldon: He starred as Pope Paul III Farnese in Which Witch in 1992. Prior to that he had been in the ensemble in POTO, where he had understudied Firmin. I could not find any photos of the latter, so I went for John Ayldon in a role resembling Firmin the most...
Leo Andrew: He starred as Pier Luigi Farnese in Which Witch in 1992. As the lead role Maria Vittoria leaves Rome and her family early in the first act, Leo Andrew appeared as the jailor for the rest of the show. In November 1997 he was cast as Monsieur André in POTO, a role he played until early 1999. The photo of André doesn’t really look like Leo Andrew, but it comes from the November 1997 brochure where the rest of the cast appears to be correct. So I might be wrong...

Now I have a tag list!

(Yes, that is a scar on Luigi's chest)
"Truly, the best part of the show was Odile's and the Prince's duet. A wonderful blend of acting and dance, a wonderful use of the art form. Odile was truly the ideal dancer, wonderful figure and beautiful form, except for the glaring issue of the mustache."
Everyone is gathered around the paper two days after the first show. An amazing review from a famously uptight reviewer, and the thing he's complementing most is the stand in!
That secures Luigi as the title character of the studio's next production, sleeping beauty.
(Yes, I actually watched the whole ballet this time)
Peach gets cast as the Lilac Fairy, and since Bowser did such a good job as the prince last time, he gets cast as Prince Désiré.
Bowser is like, hell no! He knows how act 2 ends, and he's not kissing Luigi!
Director says that since Bowser's so big, he can just get slightly close and the audience will believe it all the same.
Bowser decides to be dramatic and not practice.
This kinda hurts Luigi, cause, dang, is he just that terrible to dance with?
Director sees this and will not put up with it.
"You either keep being a baby and I get Peach to play the prince, or you play him. Your choice."
Bowser reluctantly agrees to cooperate.
Luigi can tell that Bowser is only doing this to stay employed.
Whenever they practice the kiss scene, Bowser doesn't even get remotely close.
As the preformence is getting closer, it's time for trying on costumes.
Luigi's costume reveals his chest.
Luigi thinks it looks awesome on him and is showing it to the studio.
He eventually shows it to Bowser, who notices the scar.
Bowser can feel it in his gut how he got the scar, but he asks anyway.
"Oh, when you accidentally scratched me."
Great. Now the world can see where he injured his partner!
Now they're practicing in costumes, and once they get to the vision, oh boy does Bowser notice it.
The guilt!
Anyway, first real preformence.
Luigi's doing great, and so is Peach.
Vision sequence, Bowser is extra careful.
Blah blah, ballet.
Kiss scene...
Bowser does the thing he usually does what he usually does, but quickly decides f*** it, and actually kisses him.
Luigi is blushing for the rest of the second act (and a little bit of the third).
It means nothing, they agree, they're just business associates... right?
@fishtale88 @dragonwritersblog @digimonandpokemon um, let me know if you do or don't want me to tag you? I've never done this before.

RANDOM HEADCANONS GO
HERE WE GOOOO
mario (origami king)
- is fiercely protective of olivia thanks to her being a little sister with a rogue big brother and his own big bro instincts kicking in
- at first, when he stepped on a magic circle and his thousand fold arms appeared, he thought he had found another curse like in ttyd
- he’s a great hugger! many of the toads he rescued get overwhelmed with joy and just give him a hug and he ALWAYS delivers.
- he takes his coffee with a bit of mushrooms that he always brings from home
- he still has his royalty pass to shogun studios and wants to take luigi and the princess there one day (he also thinks jr might like it)
luigi (origami king):
- is doing SO WELL for himself
- for some reason i imagine him constantly accidentally running into the legion of stationery before mario and they just. have a nice civil conversation bc he isn’t directly in their way
olivia:
- kinda wants to get to know the legion of stationery... they were made by her brother, after all
- mario is a father figure for her (and luigi is her cool uncle)
- sometimes falls asleep in marios pocket bc it’s so comfy in there
- was planning to go back home with the origami craftsman once olly was defeated
olly:
- when he first began making his own origami, it was very sloppy
- he practiced for about a week, trying to get every fold perfect just for olivia
- he misses her deeply and it makes him very sad, but his ego gets in his way of realizing that
- he says he has no favourite members of the legion of stationery, but he has a soft spot for stapler
- he really adores colored pencils’ artwork
colored pencils:
- from overlook tower, he has a view of the other streamers and when he saw how ‘basic’ his streamer area was he was FUMING
- he actually tried to physically move his streamer to somewhere more exciting but it would break if he continued so he let it be
- wants to dabble in paint
rubber band:
- those blue rubber bands were specifically chosen by him to match the streamer
- she never forced birdo to be in the show, they just happened to cross paths on the way to the park and hit it off quite well
- bit more of a pride headcanon but rubber band is bigender and uses he/she!
- rubber band’s paper machos have way more personality than any other paper machos- she trained them herself (and yes, they do autographs!)
- the true plot of the plays that rubber band was so mad about is that mario was supposed to be defeated only for rubber band, the REAL hero, to swoop in gracefully (it was all very elaborate. there was a zipline involved)
hole punch:
- loves company! unfortunately he’s a legion of stationery member so when toads don’t want to dance with a giant scary hole punch, guess what? they do now
- actually not that rude about music opinions! he’ll trash a lot of things but he’ll never trash you for liking them
- tried to hole punch a snifit or two on his way down to the temple of shrooms but he found they have absolutely zero sense of rhythm
- his demeanour is a mix between a disco lover and a b list horror movie monster and he’s well aware of this
tape:
- actually went out of his way to go talk to the other members of the legion of stationery! he’s the one who views them the most as a group
- him and scissors get along thanks to tricks that are usually taboo and wanting to keep things clean (plus their streamers are by far the closest, so tape sometimes sneaks off to see scissors)
- this is why tapes involvement in the chapter is very little, because he’s off chatting with the other members most of the time
- is that slacking off? no! course not! don’t be stupid!
scissors and scissors’ creations:
- like stapler is olly’s dog, handaconda is scissors’ pet!
- handaconda has a tendency to go scissors when it plays rock paper scissors because its thinking about its owner
- scissors thinks that the cutout warriors and handaconda are SOOOO CUTE and everyone is super weirded out by them
- i imagine her as like, somewhat of a chuunibyou? or at least, a very overexaggerated caricature of a dark anime swordsman
- her ‘i will sheath my blade so we may become equals’ and sheer excitement of cutting things up often clash, because she wants to seem serious but the thought of getting to unleash her blades gets her literally bouncing
- is not a dog person
- likes ollys idea for an origami world bc origami is so much more exciting to slice in two than paper
stapler:
- likes scratches in just the right spot. nobody except olly knows where this spot is
- constantly mistakes colored pencils’ missiles for chew toys

Developed/Published by: Nintendo EAD Tokyo / Nintendo Released: 13/07/2018 Completed: 17/01/2022 Completion: Finished all episodes and the bonus chapter, 185 diamonds. Trophies / Achievements: n/a
I haven’t much paid attention to Nintendo’s Game Trial system for Nintendo Switch Online, but the recent trial of Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker caught my eye as one of those games I know is (generally) well liked and seemed completely easy to play through in less than a week (because I’d stuck on a free trial of Nintendo Switch Online and not even noticed this trial until about three days into it.)
It’s an odd one to pick for this reason–Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker turns out to be short and easy enough that a dedicated player could probably 100% it in about six hours or something (Nintendo’s stupid activity tracker isn’t telling me how long I played this for, but it probably wasn’t much longer than that, though I didn’t 100% it) meaning that for most bargain-minded players this isn’t merely a trial. I mean, outside of grabbing the last few diamonds, there really wasn’t any more content for me to explore unless I wanted to download the DLC (which I didn’t, I was good) so unlike a trial of a huge RPG or an online game, this doesn’t seem like the kind of thing that’s going to drive more sales.
Captain Toad, sadly, doesn’t alleviate my ennui with Nintendo’s highly polished, charming output in the Mario and Mario-adjacent franchise. I remember saying in my review of Mario Tennis Aces “I’m swearing off ‘Mario doing things that aren’t being in a platformer’” and to be honest, while Mario isn’t even in this… and it’s a bit like a platformer (you just can’t jump) it similarly feels just so… unnecessary?
The closest thing I can compare this kind of thing to is those big-budget kiddy CGI films. And not, like, the Pixar ones where they manage to be really charming and have themes and that. I’m talking about something like The Secret Life of Pets, or Trolls or something. Really glossy, well made, but it’s for weans, and it’s not actually going to enrich your life in any meaningful way. When you get down to it, I think the current era of Mario even looks like these movies. Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker offers these beautiful little puzzle-boxes which are cleverly designed, neat to look around (who doesn’t love floating water?) and Toad and Toadette are cute, but it’s empty calories. I felt nothing.
I’m not saying here that I need, like, Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker to explore capital T Themes or something, but it’s not unironic that Illumination are the studio working with Nintendo on the upcoming Mario movie. Hell, they might do something interesting with it, but I assume it’s going to be, like Mario jumps on a Goomba, Luigi says “well that just happened” and does [current popular dance] to [current popular song].
Anyway, enough moaning. Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker is fine, a bland way to pass a snowy afternoon when you’re too sleepy to do much else (which I did.) I’m not even sure what I want from Nintendo nor if I think they have any ability to provide it, but the Splatoon series does prove that they’re able to create something with a unique style and solid play, so I guess I’ll know it when I see it.
Will I ever play it again? At the time of writing I still have time to get those last diamonds or do the extra challenges (I 100%ed chapter one) but I don’t have any hunger for it. So no.
Final Thought: Interested now to discover if I’m just totally off Mario forever or if Super Mario 3D World (whenever I pick that up) brings me back into the fold. 3D Land was cool but boring for ages until it got actually challenging, and Treasure Tracker has the edges sanded off so completely that I suspect that won’t be any different.
Support Every Game I’ve Finished on ko-fi, either via a one-off donation (pay what you like) or by joining as a supporter at just $1 a month and get articles like this a week early.
