Happy Calibration to @raeliyah from your no-longer-secret santa, ME! ;D
Choosing from among your characters was really hard - I went through all of them and I may have fallen for each and every one - but I’ve been into generating colour palettes from photograps lately so funnily enough, Khulan only having a black-and-white portrait is what sealed the deal this time. I also may consider her somewhat of a nemesis as a migraine-inducer and thus deserving of recognition, considering I suffer from migraines a lot. It’s a really interesting tell for a lunar to have :D
I may have gone a bit overboartd with the “layered mongolian style” in her clothes, but if there’s one thing I love it’s putting characters in complicated outfits so I hope it’s alright - the palette is generated from a lanscape photo in the Mongolian steppe and felt muted enough to still suit her personality. Plus, I wanted to give her something nice since despite her being a lunar I couldn’t represent her warform this time... dinosaur creatures are the bane of my existence, as much as I adore their aesthetics.
I also have a background-less transparent version, so throw me a message if you’d like it!
(( Also, thank you so much @shiftingpath for the timeline adjustment this go around - I was bedridden for nearly two weeks during the holidays so managing to actually finish this very much needed the later deadline ))

So…I follow a dude called exotic lairs on YouTube who has a bunch of spiders, and now I wanna talk about Drider Rook!
First off! Spiders are usually solitary except for some keeping small frogs to protect their eggs from bugs, so I picture Rook having a beloved pet frog named Josephine, and he makes her little bows with his webs. He does have neighbors around, but he only really is truly friends with Vil (who I think should either be a harpy or naga) and Trey (I don’t know what he would be). But he knows all the gossip. His webs hear all
Speaking of his webs! They are super sensitive, they work as basically an extended sense of touch. So he knows when something or someone enters his territory, and has taught himself the difference between his neighbors and even differing species of animals movements! He doesn’t like birds cause they make him feel itchy from their fluttering, as spiders don’t like blowing air.
Since there are burrowing spiders, I say he’s a burrowed, cause I can see him getting excited and basically building a hobbit home for you both to live in… It’s surprisingly cozy, if not a bit chilly and damp sometimes cause it’s underground, but he is always making you sweaters so…
Spiders don’t eat much, but I think rook enjoys hunting and fishing so he brings lots of food back for you and Josephine. Spiders do need fresh water, so if you show him how to make a rain catcher, he is starry eyed. Also finds you planting a garden for veggies fun. He makes you a special hat when you get sunburned or overheat the first time. Yes, Josephine does find her way into the raincatcher so Rook makes her her own one. She is a spoiled frog.
Rook is a crafter, and I say he also likes archery still! There are some spiders that do drop nets with different web design than normal spiders and while I don’t think he is one of those, he likes how they hunt and tries to emulate it (they don’t use glue to make their webs sticky! The webs chemically change at touch and basically meld into the preys being!)
Spiders have retractable claws, and basically tiny paw pads, so picture squishing his beans! He asks for help trimming his claws (which real spiders don’t need but shut up) when they get too long. Spiders also have very poor eyesight, so now all I’m picturing is Rook with reading glasses!
PLEASE THESE ARE SO CUTE😭😭😭😭 OH MY GOD IM SOBBING josephine...our beautiful daughter....ill take care of her so well....augh...

So uh- I drew my water lesbians for pride. The gigantic lady is Dooriya (although many refer to her at The Lurker of the Deep out of respect as names hold power among the gods, and also she’s a war goddess) and the small one is Aurora (aka The Lady and she’s also a war goddess along with the goddess of fertility and beauty), and she’s trans. But they’ve been together for the longest ass time and have uh-
A lot of kids, most of them from Dooriya’s previous relationship. But yeah, I could go into their backstories here, but I shall do that another time and another post with some doodles to go with it?
Oh, also these two are from my Dungeons and Dragons campaign I’m running, and they are important to the story.

my top bit of advice going into the new year: compliment people. especially strangers. literally everyone you interact with if you can. when you buy coffee in the morning compliment the barista's tattoos. when you're chatting with a coworker tell them that by the way you like their outfit. always find something they've chosen to do on purpose. nail polish, jewellery, tattoos, hair colour/style, statement accessory, outfit, etc are all good bets. things people hope will be noticed. things that aren't too personal so it doesn't make them uncomfortable (eg probably not their physical features). i've gotten into the habit of scanning everyone i talk to for something about them that i think is cool so i can tell them. it's a great habit because it makes me notice people and realise just how many neat little details there are in people's presentation of themselves that might pass me by if i wasn't paying attention. and it brings out so much joy. you'd be surprised how much it disarms people to receive an unexpected compliment from someone they don't know. it is the most sincere smile you will see all day long. it feels nice to make people happy but it also means you win the social interaction. establish dominance by complimenting a stranger's earrings and disappearing into the fog
