John Lennon: “Mind Games” b/w “Meat City” Swedish 7″ (1973)
Personal note: the Devendra typeface is amongst my top-ten, if not top-twenty favorite fonts because classic gaming and Rob 'Roy' Raindorf’s self-titled album (1977). On another unrelated note, you’ll find this closing out Consumer Electronics’ Teenage Nuremburg (1995) outright and shamelessly ripped off by Philip Best himself.

“I tried to save your soul!”
While the camera focuses specifically on the knife.
The fact that he can’t hurt him, even though Caleb is literally here because of Philip’s own mind projecting him. The fact that directly after trying to hurt him, Philip’s body starts to fall apart.
This shot in its entirety. Almost as if he’s bowing down while Caleb looks on coldly. Again--this is Philip’s own manifestation of Caleb, and yet this is the brother he sees. He sees him as steady and unyielding, unsympathetic.
Philip knows he’s in the wrong. He just can’t handle it.

“Hoffman is unshaven, nicotine-stained, and endearingly zhlubby. He has a tendency to lean forward confidingly—although it’s hard to tell how much of that is conspiratorial giddiness and how much just bad posture. He’s not glamorous, but he’s undeniably cute. And his magnetism comes not least from his talent: He’s an actor’s actor and a shockingly good one.”

Consumer Electronics: Teenage Nuremburg RRRecords version (1995, 2002)
The day before Thanksgiving, Stony Brook era. It was right before I became WUSB's program director and my original show was slotted at Wednesdays 10PM to midnight. Ahead of me was Ivan from 'Transparent' who started his show with William S. Burrough’s Thanksgiving Prayer. On that show he also played Excepter, Wild Man Fischer, and another act I’d been meaning to discover. He mentioned Consumer Electronics, Philip Best’s (Whitehouse) solo project when he was in his mid-teens (!). Ivan then went for playing the first few minutes of “Dodd”. I say “first few” because it comprises of almost half the Teenage Nuremburg, a compilation of previously-released tracks and live performances. Call it radio interference or not, Best had an idea going and veered into uncharted territory that almost none of his as-young peers traveled. (Having your own noise-cassette label, connections with Gary Mundy / Broken Flag, being part of Whitehouse, and having solo releases under your belt when you’re 15 more than qualifies as being a child [noise] prodigy and ahead of your time.) Best has managed to create an uncountable amount of jiggling signals, viral-grade bursts of interference, fried airwaves, and random soundbytes akin to making his own one-man shortwave broadcast. Other isolated moments to be found on this release is six minutes of Best and friends poking ridicule at know-it-all music critics on “Genesis Of A Child Star”, a live performance featuring John Murphy of Death In June and SPK, or how Teenage Nuremburg had no shame thieving a minute-or-so sample of John Lennon’s “Mind Games” (’73) to end on a glorious note. All this can be had if you’re able to stomach white power speeches and Nazi salutes that start it (at a time which Best’s Iphar label released that compilation album, and has since denounced those ideas from his works).
Years later, Ron Lessard / Emil Beaulieau’s RRRecords re-released it twice: once on his sub-label Pure and again with custom collaged artwork.
