ok, so the orange side...
so, I've been seeing quite a bit of discussion on the topic of what the orange side could represent/what their name will be. so I thought I'd share my thoughts. personally, I feel as if the orange side would represent anger. or, more specifically rage. most of the encounters we've ever had with the side have been related to some standard or linked back to the thought of anger. Some examples of this would be, obviously when logan lost his cool while trying to explain to Remus why he felt as if his actions were unfair and then shouted. then later on when Logan became frustrated and Remus tried to push saying 'It kinda makes you wanna scream, huh.' I have also seen quite a few theories saying that this new side could represent repressed thoughts, while this is a good theory, I don't think so. if it was, then they would have appeared in the episodes with Patton talking about his repressed thoughts and also in dealing with intrusive thoughts when they got onto the topic of repression. now onto the name. as we can see, there are a lot of patterns with the names given to the sides. one of the first being the fact that all of the names have only two syllables. the second being that, both Janus and Remus' names are of Greek origins Janus' meaning two faces or doorways and Remus' literally means twin. and the last pattern with the names of the characters is the endings, (log-an, rom-an, patt-on. and rem-us and jan-us) Virgil being the outlier of this because as Thomas had depicted before he's like a grey side, sitting in the middle of the black and the white me and my friend actually discussed this a while ago, trying to keep all of these patterns in mind, two of the most likely ones that we found were either Marius/Marcus or Sirius. Marius as a name means dedicated to Mars, the Roman god of war, while it's not a Greek name, the definition goes along with the idea that the orange side is supposed to depict rage. Also, to be shortened down could go to Marcus, which means the same thing only with two syllables going along with the first pattern. and obviously, Marius ends with the same syllables as Remus and Janus. The second name, Sirius is another good option in my opinion. the definition of Sirius as a name is burning/glowing which also contributes to the idea of anger or rage. 'burning rage' etc. the origins of the name Sirius are also Greek, meaning that it would go along with the other dark sides along with eh fact it ends with '-us'. (also doesn't support anything at all I just think it would be cool cause Sirius is actually a star and it would be funny that he'd be related to Logan a lot.) the only thing wrong with this name is that it has three syllables instead of 2.

Suddenly just got the idea that Logan is actually the Orange side, but uses dark blue as his accent color because he believes it makes him more respectable. Maybe that’s why Logan’s eyes turned orange that one time lol

So far every side name has two syllables.
Ro/man.
Ja/nus. (or Jan/us, depends on how you say it)
Re/mus.
Pat/ton.
Lo/gan.
Vir/gil.
Even Thom/as and Ni/co have two syllables.
Heck, even E/mile and Re/my have two syllables.
What if the next side doesn't? What if it's like, Craig or something?
Even Apollo (a common orange-side name theory, after Logan's comment about wishing Apollo had more of an influence in WTIT) would mess with the pattern, being A/pol/lo

So I’ve recently gotten back into sander sides, took a small break but this brings me back to a small little theory that I once posted on reddit (don’t question me) and thought it would be better to post it on here, yeah this came out of nowhere but enjoy my theory
So every light side has a dark side counter part to it and before the whole orange side thing I assumed that Logan’s dark side is virgil or his opposite, it makes sense but from what this orange side is proving to us is that, the orange side is Logan’s opposite now that’s fine but what about virgil, virgil is the outlier he is considered the grey sides, now there are 2 ways this little theory can go either once virgil was a dark side he had a light side counter part that he pushed away cause he was scared and what not (and that can be how remy is introduced but whatever) and once virgil became a sort of light side his light side counter part ends up becoming a dark side to fit with the balance and this would mean the addition of another side which I’ve heard there is only going to be 7 sides so idk how true this might be
But here’s my other idea, anxiety as a concept is not really considered apart of someone’s personality and in Thomas’s case it’s more of a feeling than anything now this whole thing can be debunked if the orange side is rage cause that is an actual emotion but idk, I’ve heard a one theory that the orange side is like self hatred or something which I am slightly hoping for cause it helps this theory, but the idea is that virgil was never meant to be apart of Thomas personality, it is a disorder or just something greater, Thomas did say that virgil wasn’t supposed to be apart of his sides, anxiety was just a side thing and I feel like there is something specific about how virgil is able to comfortably be with the light sides so offend even before he was accepted cause when we think about the first time the idea of dark sides came up, Thomas had to give permission to see his dark side, however virgil was different he is always there always will be and always have been, now I don’t want to go and be saying that Thomas has a anxiety disorder I’m just saying that maybe that’s why virgil was separate from the sides both light and dark, and because he was probably pushed away from both patton and Roman he was pushed with the dark sides which is why he would of been considered a dark side
Maybe not really a theory more of food for thought, but virgil always seemed like an outlier even in the beginning, idk maybe it’s nothing but it is something worth thinking about especially with the finale coming up which might be a emotional roller coaster with the new and accepted Janus

ah, you know what my first thought was when i got to this scene?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
when logan started off as the side who tried to approach problems as fairly and open-mindedly as possible, and encouraged thomas to not jump to conclusions or assume ill intent.
but he gets ignored, underestimated and sidelined so often that he himself started giving in to the cognitive distortions.

You cant tell me this wasn’t Janus’s way of learning how the real Roman would respond to being accused of not being Roman.
If Janus is planning on impersonating Roman, then knowing how Roman would genuinely react to this would help Janus act his way out of any accusations.

I would like to suggest aromantic Patton
He doesn’t know what Thomas meant when he said “I just felt something for someone else that I had never felt before” in Moving On pt 2, and during the Five Years Later video, he didn’t seem very enthusiastic about Nico
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I propose that while Patton deals with a lot of the feelings, he doesn’t necessarily enjoy or understand them

So, I was rewatching Perfect Gift again for like the 100th time and I just make a realization.
It's about the newspaper that Logan was given. He was so quick to assume it was just a cheap newspaper and nothing else to it. That's pretty depressing when you think that he's not seeing things in a deeper perspective anymore. It's as if he doesn't see a point to do so anymore.
Tumblr media
It was sorta like how in the 5 year Anniversary vid, when Thomas asked "What do you think is next for us?" And Logan gave up and said "You tell me". He doesn't see the point in putting his two cent in anymore and starting to think that the others don't see him more than just a boring, worthless, out of date person that's just a stereotypical nerd.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
However, when he starts actually looking deeper into the newspaper, he sees something different, something unexpected. A well thought out puzzle for him specifically. Showing that the others, Virgil specifically, knows Logan is more than boring. He like reading, yes. He likes puzzles, yes. Making it a game full of mystery and fun? You wouldn't think Logan would be into that but he is. It proves there is more to Logan. A happier side to him that he's repressed for means of being taken seriously.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The newspaper is a representation of Logan. On the outside, he's inconspicuous. He's normal. He's put together. You wouldn't think much of him or give him a second thought or glance. But, once you look deeper and actually start reading into him, you see a whole new, different person. Someone happier. Someone interesting. Someone hurt. Someone frustrated. Someone... that's more than meets the eye.

This has been bugging me for a long time but I finally figured out the foreshadowing here—
Tumblr media
It explains that Roman didn’t leave just because he felt ganged up on, betrayed or made fun of in SvS Redux—
He left mostly because he felt guilty. He feels like he didn’t do his job well enough—
I think this is probably not a new revelation but I think banter about it gets buried in the idea that no one seems to be on Roman’s side about his feelings towards Janus, or about Patton’s sudden ‘allegiance change’. I think those are fair points but I also think that Roman is heavily disappointed in himself for letting c!Thomas get so far off the rails that Thomas starts choosing alternate (less honourable) approaches to his decision-making (Janus). This is why Roman mentions his ‘mistakes’ in Flirting With Social Anxiety.
Also this is why Virgil is pissed about Thomas’ decisions in that video too. Thomas can’t keep lying to begin a new relationship with a new guy. Fortunately however, c!Thomas is spared having make an excuse (a lie) to approach Nico, because Nico approaches him instead.
Anyway, Roman needs a genuine win soon or I’m gonna explode 😃❤️

Thanks for reading! 😄

is nobody gonna talk about the fact that remus was absolutely downing the ANTI SPOILER SPRAY when thomas asked him if he had any regrets?
it was like he was forcing himself to not say anything that would “spoil” the series.

!! SPOILER WARNING!! ⚠️
What if there was something more to Logan’s statement?
In the newest episode, “What Makes a Perfect Gift?”, when Logan hints to Virgil that he is disappointed with his newspaper, he makes a point to say:
“… there was obviously something about my personality that made you think a newspaper would be a proper gift for me, and whatever that is, I will have to reflect on that. This whole activity was to serve a higher purpose anyway.”
Thomas then assures Logan: “You’re doing good, Logan.”
They never discuss what exactly “the purpose” was. I also believe the wording of Logan’s statement was odd. This could just be a nod to his past history of disconnection with the group, but I believe it could be more.
I propose:
Could he be talking about the Orange Side?
I believe that “the aspect of his personality” Logan needs to reflect on could be a reference to Orange.
We already know that Orange and Logan are connected in some way, hence, the glowing orange eyes. They never discuss “the purpose” or “the aspect his personality” after it’s brought up.
Something about how Thomas said, “You’re doing good Logan,” tells me that Thomas, in some capacity, can see how much of a hard time Logan had. Janus and Remus obviously know about Orange, but what about the others?
Could it be that Logan is trying to keep Orange at bay?
Logan was the Side who ultimately decided to initiate the Gift Exchange. This is odd.
They even call this out when Roman says: “Logan, you’ve never run one of these things.”
Patton agrees with that statement saying: “Hey, yeah! It’s usually me or Roman. Wha-?”
Logan replies: “Well, things are a little different this year.”
Logan is trying new things and intentionally going out of his way to make sure Orange is not shown to the rest of the group.
He is making an effort to reconnect and get away from the one-dimensional “smart guy” stereotype because he can see how that can feed into Orange.
I would like to hear other people’s takes on this line. There are many ways you could interpret it, but it seems so cryptic that I might as well apply it to a theory of mine. Enjoy my over exaggeration of a small line. 💪💪💪

Okay, can we talk about how fantastic all the other side's little cameos in Roleslaying with Roman are??? Janus is a literal snake oil salesman. LILYPADTON. They are wonderful!!
Also extremely interesting from a theory perspective.
I mean. So far they've all been animal themed. If that keeps up, we could learn more of the light sides' symbol animals (since we really only see the dark sides', aside from the Lilypadton Redux Incident). Plus, how will Remus be incorporated into the story? Will he be just an octopus-themed side character? Or will the Sander Sides brother dynamic prevail, and he'll be Roman of Reston's long lost evil twin? If we see an orange, angry character with an intriguing name, I'll riot.
I know that Sanders Sides and RSwR are not connected. But. Thomas seems like the kind of wonderful, evil person to hide little foreshadowing tidbits amidst the Whimsy. So I'll just keep an eye out, for fun.
Also... maybe I've gone off the deep end here... but look at RSwR Janus' design:
Tumblr media
A purple potion that doesn't look like any other one and is held far away, a red potion and green potion in the same kind of jar, two blues, one yellow, an Orange, and finally a pink one.
Is the "yellow" potion just a second orange one? From what I can see, yeah.
Does this theory imply a pink side? Yes.
Do I make any sense right now? Not at all, but I don't care.
Here, have a Lilypadton. For whimsy.

thinking about how Virgil probably understands how Logan is feeling right now. how Logan feels like no one wants him around anymore, no one values his opinions, the other sides occassionally villanize him or act like he's the problem; and Virgil gets it. he knows exactly how it feels.
and that's why he doesn't make a big deal out of Logan jumping to conclusions about his present. it probably hurt Virgil to see Logan immediately assume that he didn't care enough to prepare a good present but in the end, all Virgil says is “and you thought I would just get you a newspaper”.
because he's been in this exact position before and in that moment, it was Logan who gave him some believable assurance that he is not unwanted, that his presence means something to the rest of them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
so when Logan jumps to a conclusion and assumes that Virgil doesn't like him all that much, Virgil doesn't take it personally. he's just returning the favor.
