Shamima Begum, a Bangladeshi Muslim who left London with her friends as teens to join ISIS, is trying to return to the UK, but she just lost her latest appeal. The British government removed her citizenship and she has been spending millions of UK taxpayer money to appeal the rulings which went in favor of the government.
Using taxpayer money to sue the taxpayer for the right to return and be a taxpayer after leaving to wage war against the taxpayer.

The way this travesty is always covered in the media is unfathomable to me. This young woman who was groomed, abused, and trafficked as a child has been left stateless and with absolutely no recourse to ever return to the country of her birth and it's constantly presented in both right and left wing media and political arenas as justice.
I am 100% certain that if she had been white and Christian the reaction would be radically different and she would be treated as a victim and a survivor rather than as a terrorist with no hope of rehabilitation.

shamima begum being stripped of her british citizenship is incredibly wild. like how are you going to villify the girl who was groomed at the age of 15 yrs old more than the adults who did the grooming? on another note, will the same vilification be done for british-israeli dual citizens who happily go to occupied gaza to commit war crimes? the lack of legal repercussions there tells you everything you need to know.

I didn’t know I had accepted him; but mamma tells me I have, and he seems to think so too. I certainly didn’t mean to do so; but I did not like to give him a flat refusal, for fear mamma should be grieved and angry (for I knew she wished me to marry him), and I wanted to talk to her first about it, so I gave him what I thought was an evasive, half negative answer; but she says it was as good as an acceptance
Milicent in her letter to Helen, admitting she never actually accepted Mr Hattersley's proposal. And yet she was married to him.
As it happens, I am re-listening to I Am Not A Monster Series 2: The Shamima Begum Story podcast, and today I listened to the bit where Shamima married her husband in Raqqa in Syria. She says she didn't explicitly agree to the marriage. She met the guy and when asked, she just kept saying "erm...erm.... I don't know", but they married her off to him regardless. (She had also previously been held in a house with other unmarried women and it was too packed there, and getting married was the only way out of there.)
Just. Interesting parallels with real life, I'd say.

British-born woman who joined Islamic State lost her citizenship revocation appeal
The UK government revoked Shamima Begum’s citizenship on national security grounds in 2019, shortly after she was found in a detention camp in Syria.
Begum argued that the decision was illegal, in part because British officials failed to properly consider whether she was a victim of human trafficking. However, the argument was rejected by a lower court in February 2023.human
London’s Court of Appeal rejected her appeal on Friday following an appeal in October, with Judge Sue Carr stating:
“It could be argued that the decision in Ms Begum’s case was harsh. It could also be argued that Ms Begum is the author of her own misfortune. But it is not for this court to agree or disagree with either point of view. Our only task is to assess whether the deprivation decision was unlawful… We have concluded it was not and the appeal is dismissed.”

Shamima Begum loses legal case over British citizenship and return to UK
Shamima Begum, who left London when she was 15 to travel to Syria and join Islamic State, has lost a legal case over her British citizenship, meaning she will not be able to return to the UK. Begum had her British citizenship stripped from her in 2019, on national security grounds by then-home secretary Sajid Javid. Now aged 23, Begum brought a challenge against the Home Office over the…

Shamima Begum was 15 years old when she left Bethnal Green with her two school friends to travel to Syria to join the ISIS Caliphate in 2015.
