What would it matter if he took off his hat and he was a shining beacon?? The dude canonically fucks (well not canon-canon but I feel like there’s implications of fucks-ing)!! It kind of felt like they were making jokes at the expense of people loosing hair. It’s like that thing where you shouldn’t make fun of people for ‘X’ because then your friends who ‘X’ will know you think that about them.

I've complained about it on here a bit already, but yeah I don't think people making fun of Johnny because they think he's losing hair realize that a lot of people in real life are going to lose their hair as they age, and their jokes at Johnny are also jokes at these people. It's not even just an issue cis men can have either, everyone's hair thins with age, some just more (and sooner) than others. To make fun of someone, fictional or otherwise, for losing their hair is digging a trench to fill with future self loathing at one's own hair loss. And hair loss in >2023 isn't even that bad anymore!! There are so many ways to manage and style it now.

Anyway Runaan-Callum parallels slap so let's talk about 'em (semi requested by the lovely @hoothalcyon)

Although Runaan and Callum are about as different presentation wise as they could possibly be, especially in Arc 1 - one a stoic, serious Moonshadow elf sworn to duty over family, who believes wholeheartedly in a dastardly human enemy, and the other a goofy heart-on-his-sleeve prince who always believes elves may be worth reasoning with - they do have, at their steely cores, have a fair few similarities. This is largely in their respective relationships with Ezran and Rayla.

For starters, in spite of Callum's idealism, he does have a more skeptical core (just like Runaan) both in regards to potentially listening to / trusting 'former enemies' and in trusting the people they love with possibilities they've already deemed impossible.

Runaan: No. Humans are liars. This is a trick and a trap. You're a fool, Rayla.

Rayla: Just... trust me. Callum: Right, right. That makes sense. Since we go way back. Like that one time, ten minutes ago, when you chased me through the castle trying to stab me. Haha, good times!

You have Callum and Runaan both being terse/angry at Ezran ("Ezran, you don't get it, do you? Why do you think they're sending us away? Because they're coming to kill him!") and Rayla ("Of course he was afraid, but you had a job to do! You let him live but you killed us all") for not seemingly getting the severity of the situation they've found themselves in, even though Callum told Ez that everything was okay when the younger boy expressed doubts earlier, and even though Runaan didn't listen to Ethari's cautioning that Rayla wasn't ready for this sort of mission.

Runaan and Callum are both also lied to / betrayed by people they trusted, leading ultimately to disaster once the illusion has been revealed; for Runaan, it is his adoptive daughter, and for Callum, it is his childhood friend(s) in Claudia and Soren. And both turn away from each girl in the end, leaving them staring off sadly as Runaan and Callum devote themselves to the missions they believe have to be done that Rayla and Claudia were attempting to derail.

Callum and Runaan also believe that Rayla can be better than how she's presenting herself ("Why? You know this is wrong" / "You're better than this") even if they have opposite ideas of what 'better' is. For Callum, it's Rayla embracing her compassion ("You have a big heart") and for Runaan, it's largely shutting it off ("Your heart isn't hard enough to do whatever it takes"). Which is why I think it's nice that they are both the ones who label Rayla's said compassion, initially in Callum's case, as hesitation.

And of course, in Chasing Shadows, they are the two voices inside Rayla's head, helping her retain her identity (to a degree with Runaan, who is also paralleled with RedFeather in spite of the distance and/or fraught dynamic between them, as well as being the two people to pull her out of the water from near drowning.

“An island is land,” said a voice in her head, so playful and cheeky she could almost see his smile. [...] “A hidden dagger,” Rayla understood. It was something Runaan had told her time and time again: “a defenseless enemy may keep their daggers hidden.”

I love you. I wish I could say that we will see each other again, but I don’t know if we will. I hope so. 

Callum can also be determined bordering on stubborn, like Runaan (a trait many of the main cast share, given the adversity of their circumstances; "We have to keep going, no matter what" from 1x08; "Justice will not be denied" from 1x03) but he is ultimately more willing to change. He can be stoic (in S4) if not very well, and has his own self sacrificial tendencies, particularly if that means protecting his loved ones: "We'll be stronger as five" now that Runaan knows the mission will likely require sacrifice and "I need you to kill me" now that Callum knows Aaravos has turned him into a threat. Given the trouble that magic has recently brought Callum, I wonder if we will start to see him have similar doubts as Runaan in Bloodmoon Huntress over being an assassin, of "I wonder if perhaps I shouldn't have become..."

However, as Ethari lays out in BH: "Souls like that feel called to protect everyone as fiercely as those they hold close. I've known since we met that this is Runaan's calling, that nothing will deter him from his duty." When Runaan is offered freedom and a chance to go home to Ethari - to free himself and return to his loved ones, to ease their suffering - he doesn't take it. It is the end of his episode in which he states, "I will never help you," allowed to hold fast. (Even though, if he had been freed, he possibly could've taken the coins holding Lain and Tiadrin with him as well, if through force.)

But Callum has his "I will never help you" at the beginning of his episode, so it's unsurprising from a structural standpoint that Callum's vow doesn't hold (and doubly unsurprising from a characterization standpoint) since as we all know, Callum "values those close to him more than anyone or anything."

Now, we don't know what Runaan would've done if one of his loved ones' lives had been on the line, as opposed to Viren just further threatening his own safety, but he was willing to sacrifice the lives of all of his assassins (granted that they were equally willing of the risk), so there's a little grey room. We also know that Finnegrin had to meet a challenge similar to Viren's: Callum didn't fear his own lack of freedom, torture couldn't break him, and he wasn't scare either when it seemed he was assuming he was the one going to be fed to the giant sea serpent. So Finnegrin had to find something that Callum, likewise, would "fear more / find worse than death" and he did:

Magic is very important to Callum and it's what he absolutely wants to pursue, but he's not willing to risk his life or heavily bend his morals just for his calling (2x04, 2x02, 2x08); he is willing to do those things for his loved ones, time and time again (1x01, 1x02, 2x07, 3x09, 5x08).

The fun thing is that we see this sort of language (Finnegrin's whole thing about fair prices) reflected in BH with Runaan as well, specifically with Kim'Dael holding an innocent Skywing boy hostage and using him as leverage for Runaan to sacrifice himself (which, given Callum's subsequent dark magic use, is also a level in 5x08, because he's also willing to sacrifice/risk corrupting himself further to save Rayla):

Which we could see Callum consider if there's something that requires him to do dark/dangerous magic again in S6, since in his mind, he's already 'tainted' and stained by dark magic, just as Kim'Dael taunts Runaan over it (and those sweet assassin-dark mage parallels continue to persist):

I know you're brave. The kind of brave that would sacrifice your life to save the ones you love. Let's make it simple. Give me your blood, assassin, and those two you came with walk away free. You've killed, but they haven't. They can still have long full lives.

(I do still lean towards this ultimately coming back around for Rayla first and foremost because BH basically exists to hold up a sign like "Runaan and Rayla are similar" / her paying the price motif and sacrifice, but I do think ultimately both Callum and Rayla will end up in a situation similar to Runaan's above whether in structure or in how they process it.)

Where are all these parallels going, besides Callum being the one to free Runaan and co. in S6, and Runaan possibly encouraging the "You need to kill me" idea at first? No clue! But they're fun either way.

Inside Out 2: Thoughts and Speculations (long post)

New Emotions: Why Them and Why Now?

While the trailer has only shown 1 of the 4 new emotions, the comments got me thinking about why these specific 4 were the ones added as Riley hits puberty.

Anxiety

I've seen a lot of comments after the first trailer asking about the difference between Fear and Anxiety and based on definitions from the internet, Fear is essentially a response to a perceived threat that is present at the moment, while Anxiety is a response to "What if?" type scenarios that may or may not happen or even be realistic.

When I gave that answer in the comments, many people told me that Fear functioned as both in the original film, and that brings me to the "Why Now" part. I think Anxiety appearing after puberty is meant to represent how, when we're younger, fears that might seem irrational or unrealistic to others (adults especially), feel real to us (if a kid believes monsters exist, the fear of a monster in their closet is very much rational in their mind). But, as we get older, we start to learn the difference between things we should be afraid of (or at the very least more aware of/careful about) and what are unlikely events that our minds simply obsess over, hence the appearance of Anxiety.

As for the other 3, tho we haven't seen them, based on the nature of the emotions, in my opinion it also makes sense why they specifically only appear after puberty hits.

Embarrassment, in my own definition, is the feeling one experiences when they think they've said or done something that makes them look "uncool" or "weird/odd" (this also applies to things others say/do that makes you or themselves seem "uncool" or "weird/odd"). While this can also happen to younger kids, I feel like it's more so teens that have very rigid definitions of what counts as cool or not, as well as being real jerks to anyone not meeting these rigid definitions (kids can be really mean too, but i think they're more flexible about what they consider cool), and therefore Embarrassment is much more likely to occur strongly in teenagers.

Envy, is also an emotion that, in some form, exists in younger kids, however the biggest difference is, I think, in the focus of the emotion. When we're kids and we see someone have something we don't have, but want, our focus is on the thing (which is almost always material), rather than the person ("I want to have X too!). However, as we get older, our focus shifts to the person who has that thing (which can be material or immaterial) we don't have, but want ("Why do they have X?). Notice how, in the first instance, our reaction is a desire to possess that thing (it's less about someone else having it and about us wanting it), and in the second, it is a questioning of why someone else gets to have that (it's more about why they are the ones who have it, than about us wanting that thing). The latter is what Envy is.

Ennui is a form of dissatisfaction with the way things are, that mixes boredom and tiredness. Children often live in a world that is full of fun, adventures and magic, however the world of school gradually loses these qualities and issues can pile up on top of each other. Riley turns 13 in the film, which is around the time (at least in my country) when kids enter high-school, which is progressively less about fun, even compared to earlier forms of school. This is also the period in many teens' lives where they start questioning why they need to do things and things such as existential crises or depression can come in, both of which can lead to things feeling pointless or meaningless, which coupled with burnout from expectations, can result in Ennui.

New and Old Emotion Pairings

Aside from Joy (who is the only positive emotion in the bunch), I think the 4 other old emotions could each pair well with one of the new ones.

Fear and Anxiety

As mentioned above, the two fulfill similar functions, and at Riley's age it's probably really hard to clearly distinguish between them. So I can easily imagine one of them freaking out, which freaks the other out and so on, so forth.

Disgust and Embarrassment

More so as opposites compared to the previous two. As mentioned in the first film, Disgust's role is keeping Riley from being poisoned (both physically, but more important to this point, socially), which includes keeping her from doing things that are seen as "uncool" (like when she wanted to tell Riley's mom that she shouldn't take her to school). And what exactly did I say Embarrassment is? The feeling we get when we have said or done something "uncool". Basically, I can imagine Embarrassment tailing Disgust, preemptively worrying about the outcome of any situation where Reily might say or do such a thing (especially if socialising or romance are going to be topics in the film, which I'd assume they'd at least partially be).

Anger and Envy

If you think about it, this combo makes a lot of sense too. Anger has been shown as the one who seeks justice and fairness. Envy (as per the definition I gave), includes a feeling of unfairness about someone else having something you want to have too and if you dislike that person or simply think you'd deserve that thing more because of y, it can easily lead to feeling "rightful" Anger (at that person, at your parents, at the world or even yourself). So I can see Envy riling Anger up at different things, both material (like a new phone) or immaterial (like popularity).

Sadness and Ennui

Sadness has been depicted as someone who likes to engage in deep thoughts. Due to the nature of Ennui (as I described above), it would make sense to me if they were deeply philosophical, after all, their existence is partially borne of a questioning of one's existence and purpose. So I can just imagine the two of them engaging in deep conversations, even about hard topics like death or the expectations and hardships of adulthood, maybe even gender, sexuality, discrimination and depression.

I don't want to make plot predictions, but I think the positive to negative emotion ratio will play a part, and tho I don't necessarily think Joy will go back to how she was in the first film, I can definitely see her treating the new emotions (Anxiety in particular) similar to how she treated Sadness, at least initially. I also think that Anxiety, who I think will kind of act like the leader of the new emotions, might get antagonised, perhaps even more so than the rest (just like how Sadness was in the first one). I also think that perhaps Joy will kind of get pushed out by the other emotions, as Riley might go through some of the rougher parts of teen life. I also think that after the initial shock, Sadness in particular would be the first to open up to the new emotions (she's been shown to be empathic in the first one with Bing-Bong).

Rui knows that a lot depends on first date and he wants to make good impression on you, so he decides to go on classic cafe date, but if he knows you prefer something else, he can justify to your interests. He would make sure that you always have something to talk about and will ask you about your interests even if he's not really into them.

But Rui also doesn't want your first date to end quickly so he'll also walk with you around the town, maybe even will be able to show you Pheonix Wonderland or some of his favorite places. And at the end of your date he will walk you home and kiss you on back of your hand as goodbye.

"I truly hope you had fun today. And if you let me, I could ask you on dates more often!"

⊱ Hands ═ How do they hands feel like? And how willing or how often do they hold hands with their lover?

Rui hands are very harsh and cold but are so pretty (totally not simping). He probably initiated handholding the next day after you started dating either for everyone to see or when you're somewhere private if first option would make you uncomfortable. Bonus points if you get flustered when he initiates handholding, because he will definitely tease you about how cute you are.

Rui's hands may be a little rough but they're still nice in hot weather, and in winter it's not that bad either! Sure his hands are cold but he usually wears glows so as long as you're not in any room, it's alright.

Rui tried his best to not say "I love you" when he confessed just so he can say it on one of your dates, he literally had everything planned out even before you started dating. So after last of his shows for this day ended or at the end of your date in Pheonix Wonderland, he took you on ferris wheel when sun was already setting. He had his arm wrapped around you and one of you rested your hand on another tiredly when Rui said those 3 magic words. It could be a little cliche, but he adored it.

Since first "I love you", Rui adored saying it to you. He usually said it as "hello" or "goodbye" while holding either your hands or your chin. But he also says it as it is some kind of "lucky charm" before his show or exam.

"Hey, YN. Look at me for a second, alright? I love you, darling!"

⊱ Only for you ═ What's something about them that they're hiding from everyone but their lover? Why did they decide to tell it to only their lover?

It's not a secret that Rui instead of sleeping stays up most of the night if not all night. Most people think that he works in his inventions, group performances or school work, and it's not as wrong but since he started dating you he also works on other things, but it's nothing bad! In fact it's pretty cute.

Rui often thinks of date ideas for you two and once he does he plans everything! He checks everything and makes sure that you will at least enjoy yourself. He's afraid that he's going to loose you so he does his very best to make sure you enjoy at these dates. At first he just says that idea just popped up into his mind last night, nothing more. But as the time pass he admits that he spends more time than he told you first at thinking about your dates, and with enough reassurance he might even explain everything.

"I thought about our date last night and I have the best idea! Yes again... but not as much, don't worry!"

In what ways do Tav!Xarrai and Durge!Xarrai differ from each other? Is there any overlap between their backstories? Are there any differences in their personalities, their relationships with the companions, and/or the way they chose to do things in the main story?

this is fun! the overlap in their backstories is more thematic than like, real overlap, though they do share a dream guardian for backstory reasons. they were both raised in dead three cults for the express purpose of fulfilling their gods’ designs, though the environments and techniques the two cults used obviously differ. the way i kind of look at it is tav!xarrai saw their chance to get out and took it and durge!xarrai stayed. which of course means than durge was like, deeply dedicated to bhaal and the cult and truly did want to make him proud (pre-tadpole at least) even if well… they’re still xarrai. and so they’re not going to be able to resist their rebellious streak especially when it came to gortash LMAO. they were always walking a fine line between feeling duty-bound to their father and the cult and their natural inclination to buck authority - though it helps that as the leader of bhaal’s cult, they were the authority. the cultists under them had a rough fucking go of it sometimes let me tell u LMAO they were still someone who is impulsive with an awful temper and prone to cruel jokes and in a world where they weren’t constantly trying to hold themself back from seizing power they r going to use that shit to the fullest.

before the tadpole i think they were fairly similar in terms of personality, though durge!xar let gortash take the lead on most of the political machinations. they made a good cult leader and are still very charismatic, but they were also busy with you know. murder shit. so gortash is still very much the face of the operation lol. i think he often told them they would make a good banite which is a funny little joke just for me :)

post-tadpole, losing their memories and being so unsure of what’s going on with them makes durge!xarrai more willing to look for help from others and makes them… idk a little more empathetic? they’re more likely to help someone who needs it without really expecting anything in return as compared to tav!xar who is like, deeply jaded and never turns down a chance for extortion lol. this also influences their relationships with companions - they're so desperate for someone to help them early on and so afraid of the urges that they keep up their whole chameleon manipulation routine for way longer. (tav!xar starts voicing their actual opinions with their companions partway through act 1, once they're pretty sure people like them enough, but it takes durge!xar until like last light to stop trying so damn hard lol). they're just kinda pathetic tbh. a sad wet beast of a man.

they do actually consider helping astarion ascend tho. like up until nearly the last minute they think about maybe helping him do it. they're clearly a danger to him and he's right that it would make him safer to be so powerful, and they're so desperate to be loved and nor feared that they're willing to set aside their own morals to see him fulfilled. they don't end up actually doing it (though it's not until they meet the caged spawn that they decide for certain) but it's a serious consideration. vs tav!xarrai who is like vehemently against it from day one and gets in multiple arguments with astarion about it.

I'll bite: what's so cool about one piece that makes you recommend it?

Oh man oh man oh man I'm honestly hyped to answer this ask and also afraid of not doing it justice. I'll try and do this in an organised way. Disclaimer: all of this is about the manga/anime, not the live action version

1) The Story:

The storytelling in One Piece is just really good. You're not just given the plot from the outset. Instead you're led by the hand to discover the universe of the franchise alongside the various characters of the crew, and you're introduced to the world, the setting and the characters that compose it in a very organic and natural way. You're shown the rules that the world operates by through character interactions, and the power system and character abilities grow organically within those rules as you progress along the show/manga. You discover the happenings of the world through the main characters moving through said world, and the shadows of the overarching plot become more and more apparent as you go further and further along the series. The setup and foreshadowing is both excellent and visible from the beginning, and the payoffs when you get there are so so good.

Additionally, it never feels forced. Like, if you're introduced to a character and you're given to understand that they're to be feared, you're immediately shown why this is the case when the protagonists battle them. Like, Luffy loses. A lot. He and other members of the crew go up against globally feared opponents and they lose. Oftentimes they only make it by the skin of their teeth due to luck. And it feels organic. Like, you're told XYZ character is the strongest swordsman in the world, and that's immediately proven when protag-kun goes up against him and loses so badly it becomes a formative experience for him.

The story deals with a lot of complex issues, but it is at its core about family and freedom and staying true to yourself even in the face of fascism and overwhelming authority.

It's just, the story is so closely interwoven with character arcs that it's just not possible to separate the two, and that's a great thing imo.

2) The characters and their interactions:

The Straw Hat crew has one of the best found family dynamics I've ever seen. Their interactions are so genuine and organic and many times goofy and funny but not in a way that feels forced. The characters grow around each other as the story continues, but never at any point does it feel unrealistic. When it wouldn't make sense for someone to trust unreservedly, they don't. They have falling outs and reservations and we get to watch those play out as the series goes on. Luffy has really great characteristion and his personality really works to act as the glue that holds the crew together. Their bonds with each other are forged through the trials they go through together and it's really really satisfying and fun to see how they play off each other's personalities and complement each other.

This is a story that takes its character relationships seriously. It's a story that is earnest at its core. The character moments are so well done that it's reduced me to tears so many times. You will cry over side characters that only appear for a single arc and you will laugh over filler characters that aren't even canon to the manga. You will genuinely be unable to tell filler arcs from canon because they're just that good. This is a story that isn't afraid to let itself be sentimental, and doesn't undermine character moments with snappy one liners.

Every character is given solid motivation and is fleshed out through the course of the show. At no point does anyone ever feel flat or unrealised.

3) The mechanics and the power system:

The power system in One Piece is incredibly consistent and at no point does it feel like an asspull or out of the blue. The rules are introduced early and are stuck to throughout. Even things that seem like they come out of nowhere later are foreshadowed right from the very beginning. To give you one example here, the MC Luffy is made out of rubber. That's his power, and because of that, bludgeoning attacks simply don't work on him cause yknow he's made of rubber. Then much later in the series a power system is introduced that allows people to circumvent abilities like these and it's foreshadowed right in the beginning when Luffy's grandpa is able to circumvent his rubberness and hit him anyway, a seemingly random ability that is revealed later on to be a whole power system unto itself.

The upper limit of power is revealed very early on as people who can destroy entire islands, and this is never violated later in the series. Luffy goes up against these island busters several times and straight up loses utterly. Like, the power ceilings are taken seriously and there's no insane power creep like in dbz or naruto. Of course, there is SOME plot armor but that's like kind of necessary to prevent the MCs from straight up dying when they go up against people able to straight up kill them.

Coming to the elephant in the room, yes Oda does sexualize the female characters and their proportions get unrealistically nonsensical as the series goes on, and there's no real way to get around that. At least the characters themselves are well written for the most part and are just as compelling as their male counterparts, but there's no way around their designs other than getting used to them over time unfortunately.

Ultimately it's up to you whether you wanna give this story a chance or not, but I strongly recommend doing so cause it's just that good imo. It's had me laughing and crying and yelling and cursing with where it goes and how it tells its story and it's such a ride if you decide to get on it. So yeah.

Would you ever do cons again or is that something that you have grown past the need of?

I really don't want to do them anymore. Long answer incoming as usual~ Like, maybe I'll attend them as a regualr attendee for fun again someday, but even before the pandemic I would get sick ALL THE TIME from going to cons. So for one thing I'm extra afraid about that. They're also not particularly profitable unless it's a local con and you don't need to travel/stay at a hotel. Or you're like.. Cards Against Humanity's table that can make 5 figures in a day. (lol ok so i googled what i was remembering, their table selling out in 50mins, and nevermind i was so wrong. if you're them you can make -$35k in 51mins at a con. negative 5 figures in an hour...)

At my peak (and only because I'd started incorporating more clothing) I made $7k in a weekend, which sounds amazing, but like half or more would disappear into flights, the hotel, the table/badges, food, and the cost of what I was selling. At that point I was paying for my own room just so I could sleep at all at night.. Way back in the day we'd do the whole 6 people in 1 room thing to save money, and then I'd spend a whole weekend unable to sleep. And then I'd get sick ;__; rinse and repeat like 8 times a year. Misery. Also those $7k cons happened like 3-4 times in my con career. 2010-2015 before clothing I think it was more like $2-3k was an outstanding weekend. More than once I made negative money at a con (not as negative as Cards Against Humanity thank god). I'm looking at you Anime Atlanta! Everyone told me and my friend that con was SO GOOD so we drove for 2 or 3 days to get there. We slept on a concrete floor at a friend's SCAD dorm room. OMG AND I JUST REMEMBERED when that happened I had just had surgery too!! All of that and I made way less than what my expenses were because the con was just dead that year (a different con had moved it's dates and was the same weekend I think? competition made both cons worse that year from what I remember). One of many sad con tales. At this point I'm too old for it, or just too unwilling to put up with the suffering. I start thinking about how many cons wouldn't let us artists bring food in, the ridiculously long 12hr+ days with no break, how many times I couldn't even get up to go to the bathroom if someone wasn't with me, weird BS like AFest trying to blacklist anyone that didn't stay for Monday when it wasn't held on labor day weekend anymore and the con's Monday wasn't a holiday, cons that put artists in bizarre and dangerous conditions (a parking garage?? or MechaCon that year there were no lights????), how often guests or staff were incredibly rude.. and honestly I just get really angry about the way cons are for artists. I wish I'd tried to start a union or something. Instead I just walked away. And then as for growing past the need for it, yeah definitely. But it's more like, I was able to grow because I let go of them. I actually knew I needed to stop doing cons like 2ish years before I did. I knew the churn was keeping me from reaching the next level, I was always recovering from a con or preparing for a con or dying at a con. But it was so hard to jump out from that cycle because I always needed the money from the next con. I'm really not even sure how I escaped, but I'm very glad I did. Definitely won't go back to that life. (There were, of course, some good times too. Like I got to meet James Marsters and Cary Elwes. Neteyam leaves to go talk to his parents about the war coming very soon with the sky people.

Spider was with Quaritch's team and they went from clan to clan in order to find Jake Sully. But there was no luck until they found a Tulkan outside of Tonowari's clan.

Lo'ak goes to Pyykan to help him out since they planted a bomb on him everyone followed Lo'ak until they had to call for reinforcements.

Quaritch starts the kidnapping of the Sully Kids and Y/n.

You were swimming as fast as you could on an ilu until you got caught in the fish net and taken to the ship where Quaritch tied you up. That's when Neteyam starts to see red his loverand his little sister have been captured by Quaritch.

So he goes to save you and Tuk until Lo'ak tells yall have to get Spider. When you, Lo'ak and Neteyam are looking for Spider Quaritch's team members starts shooting.

You grab the gun from Lo'ak's hands and tell them to go because you have everything under control. When you dive into the water one of Quaritch's members shot you in the chest.

Neteyam calls for his dad and that when everyone is gathered around you. You look at Neteyam with teary eyes saying "I don't want to die love" and Neteyam is just there crying and making sure you're going to make it out alive.

Jake and Neytiri come and they look at you with red teary eyes and your last words were "Take care of him for me please" and then your eyes start to close.

Neteyam runs over to you and screams your name "Y/n, no no no Y/N!". All Neteyam could feel was heartbreaking pain and numb.

Neytiri who treated you like her own daughter was also screaming your name the same way Neteyam did.

As for Jake who also treated you like his daughter was hurt, tired and numb he couldn't feel nothing but anger and rage.

Quaritch who starts talking in the microphone piece that was wrapped around your neck and he says "The girl didn't have to die do we still have a deal or not because I have your daughters."

Jake asks Neteyam and Lo'ak where they're sisters were and told him they were still on the ship.

Neytiri who was still crying over your lifeless body see that Jake is trying to calm her down so she listens to what he has to say.

Jake says "Neytiri they have our daughter we need to be strong I need you to be strong and I need you by my side." Neytiri grabs her bow and gets on her iran.

Neteyam and Lo'ak stay with you and Tsireya until anyone got hurt or was taking to long.

7. A quote of them that you remember

This is a hard one because Vanessa has so many amazing moments, but I think I'll go with the two that came to mind immediately. (1) I love the moment where she tells the Queen of Witches, "You and I have no bonds." Recognizing that the Black Bulls are the family she always wanted and that she doesn't need Her Majesty's "love" to be happy is such a pivotal moment in her character development, and it honestly still gives me chills every time I watch or read it. (2) An anime addition, but I love that encouraging little speech she gives Finral before he faces Langris in the Royal Knight's Exam (I won't type out the whole thing but it ends with something like "You're not going to lose to him so easily anymore. Go show him how awesome you are--and I don't just mean the hair!"). Vanessa just has such a gift in building up her friends and encouraging them, and she believes in them even when they don't believe in themselves. I love that scene because it is a real reflection of that.

24. What do you think is a secret they have that they never told anyone?

In general, I think a lot of what happened to her in her childhood is a big secret for Vanessa. Vanessa is the type of person who really tries to bury her pain and focus on the positive and/or on other people's problems even when she, herself, is hurting. She had told very few of her friends about her childhood in the Forest of Witches, prior to the arc that took place there, and even then, I think she only told them bits and pieces of the story.

Since she doesn't want her squad family to worry about her, she's never told them that her past still comes back to haunt her, mainly in her nightmares and fears of enclosed, crammed spaces. Though they had gotten less frequent, she does have still nightmares about her childhood and also about the events in the Forest of Witches arc/losing her friends, and when they get particularly bad, she will sleep by candlelight because she is afraid of waking up back in that cage and her tower.

30. The funniest scene they had?

Vanessa has such a great sense of humor, and I loved any time she affectionately teased her friends. There are some great moments between her, Noelle, and Asta on their first outing to the castle town of Kikka for instance, and her friendship with Magna especially has always made me laugh from their first appearance where they're poking fun at each other's vices. The scene that came to mind immediately read this prompt is also from Episode 80 in the Royal Knight's Exam (can you tell that's my one of my favorite episodes?) though. There's a moment where Magna asks if she'll do his hair too, and Vanessa teases him that there's no way. It's all in good fun, and Luck gets some great lines where he chimes in and teases Magna too. It's cute and makes me laugh every time.

7. A quote of them that you remember

Poor Altan. I've barely written about him, so he hasn't gotten to say much yet. He has appeared in some of my wips though, and there's an exchange between him and his Papa that I really like so I'll share that here:

Langris had to admit, he was happy for the temporarily distraction from poor Finesse and her failing health. His palms started to sweat again at the thought, and he began to wring his hands before Altan’s tiny fingers curled around one of them.

“Is Mama alright?” he asked.

“She’s just not feeling well,” Langris explained—trying to shake the worst-case-scenarios out of his own head.

“Should we go pick some flowers for her?” he asked with a kindness that brought a smile to Langris’ face. No words could describe how relieved he was that his son took after his gentle, kindhearted mother rather than a disagreeable misanthrope like him. The hard-lines in Langris’ face softened, and he even managed a slight smile.

24. What do you think is a secret they have that they never told anyone?

Altan is shy, but he's not particularly secretive on purpose. If asked about himself, he will share and actually answer instead of deflecting questions and playing 3D chess, smoke and mirrors mind-games like his dad used to do. It just isn't easy for him to freely offer such information without being asked about himself since he doesn't particularly like the spotlight. He tends to be pretty open with his family and closest friends though so he doesn't have too many secrets from them.

He does have one big secret, however which is that, by the time he's in his teens, Altan actually knows a lot about what went on between his father and uncle and how strained their relationship was in the past. Finral and Langris had long ago agreed to let bygones be bygones and decided not to tell their children about how much bad blood used to exist between them. Altan, however, kind of put a lot of pieces together and knows that his father made a lot of mistakes when he was younger, especially in regards to his relationship with his brother. He doesn't ever really bring it up, however, because he knows that his father has a lot of fear that learning all of that would change the way his son saw him, and he doesn't want to open those old wounds for his dad. However, the realization doesn't change much for Altan--he has forgiven his father and thinks what is important is that his dad learned from his mistakes and tried to better going forward, and in fact, he thinks that is a very admirable thing. Someday when Altan is a grown man, his father sits him down to tell him the truth, and it is such a moving moment for Langris when Altan just smiles at him and says he has known for a long time and it doesn't change anything.

30. The funniest scene they had?

Altan gets roped into all kinds of shenanigans thanks to his much more rambunctious cousins and friends, but he himself doesn't usually cause too much trouble or chaos on his own. However, he did participate in a prank of his dad once. When Altan wanted to get his hair cut by his aunt, the extended family decided to pull a bit of a prank on him and sent Altan home wearing a wig of a ridiculously awful haircut. Langris was so relieved when it was revealed just to be a wig, and they actually got him to laugh which made Altan very happy.

that said, clearly this is a thing some people can watch (at least in parts) without sustaining significant emotional damage, and we've been talking about it being fun because it can be fun, especially with accurate expectations and proper warnings.

2) my tentative recommendation, because I found it fun and finch survived it and enjoyed it while very sleep-deprived, is 2.7 Birdwatching!

THAT SAID I've seen, like, three and a half episodes so there may be a better one. this is what finch recommended to me though, more or less, and it is a Sleep Deprivation Antics episode, which seems appropriate.

viewing tip A: for the love of all that's holy don't let the next episode autoplay. I don't know anything about it specifically, but just… if you do, there be monsters. the second half of season two is very unkind. I'm not even planning on watching it.

viewing tip B: the birds are specific to that episode, not a general lethal weapon motif.

viewing tip C: if you want a gentler ending to the episode, stop watching after the cosy suburban scene with eggplants in, very near the end. you'll see a very obvious change in lighting.

viewing tip D: if you want gentle martin content after, here is the coffee clip again, here is onyx's fic, here are my babysitting thoughts. (trust me, harper's adorable.)

3) GENERAL CONTENT WARNINGS for the ep, I will put more specific spoilery ones at the end so they can hopefully be scrolled past (or press J on desktop to skip past this post) if you don't want them:

also, if I recall correctly, someone's finger is deliberately severed.

SUICIDE: the nightmare version of martin's father tries to convince him to kill himself and dream-martin smiles, puts a gun to his own chin and pulls the trigger, waking up. it's emotionally visceral & affecting.

ohoho thank you toby :3 1 - What’s the maximum amount of time your character can sit still with nothing to do? so both timian and vinta have undergone pretty rigorous training which makes them capable of standing/sitting still for long amounts of time, but i think vinta can only go like. half an hour before REALLY needing to fiddle with something (knives). timian on the other hand............... that boy has yet to reach his limit. his fellow guards worry for him. his fellow guards fear him. 12 - How do they deal with an itch found in a place they can’t quite reach? vinta probably has a knife or a dagger with a handle they can use to reach. timian just withstands it. he's good at repressing things :) 14 - What animal do they fear most? i have not worldbuilt iphimery fauna but it's probably fairly similar to ours, so vinta strikes me as an Afraid Of Horses person. timian........................................ is probably very afraid of a specific bug species some village kids told him terrifying stories about when he was a small child. timian would love horses btw 18 - What embarrasses them? vinta is pretty easy to embarass i think, like if you catch them petting a soft kitty, or find them experiencing a Soft Emotion, or if you compliment them in a very genuine way, pretty much anything that betrays them to be a real human being and not the cold unfeeling weapon they're supposed to be. it's fun :D timian, conversely, is notoriously hard to embarass. he's got that autism flavour of "oh i didn't realize that was an insult/didn't realize i was supposed to be embarassed about that" - HOWEVER he's also repressed his sexuality and a bunch of other personal stuff under like, fifteen layers of Duty Before Everything, so when you manage to pry THAT chest open it's all VERY embarassing for him.

1. Are you named after anyone?

Yup! My first name is the same as my grandmother's! However, I go by my middle name, so it's sort of a secret by happenstance.

2. When was the last time you cried?

Funnily enough, the last time I cried was while watching BotFA for the first time. I shed one single, manly tear (whilst vocally sobbing). In the last few years, I've seemed to kind of turn into a robot, beacause I don't really cry much anymore! Yay, I guess?

3. Do you have kids?

I do not, I will not, and I most certainly shan't ever!

4. Do you use sarcasm a lot?

I used to, but I got relly afraid people wouldn't realize I was being sarcastic, so I don't as often now. In my mind, though? Constantly.

5. What’s the first thing you notice about people?

Probably the way they stand and how they speak! I've always paid a lot of attention to body language and how people say things. Call it anxiety, or just being really observant. Either way, that's my answer!

6. What's your eye colour?

They're dark brown.

7. Scary movies or happy endings?

Happy endings! I can't watch sad or scary movies too often. They put me in a mood for hours after.

8. Any special talents?

Hmm. I would say none. My mother would say "All of them!" in an obnoxious and proud tone, as mothers tend to do. In reality, I guess I've been told that I have a habit of finishing people's sentences with them- like, predicting what they're going to say and saying it as they do. I've never done it consciously, but I guess that's just how my brain makes sure I'm listening :D

I play and run D&D campaigns, I like to story-build and make fun little characters in my head (sometimes with friends! Collaborative Storytelling, my beloved), and I recently started rollerskating for fun! I also sew on occasion, play the cello in my local symphony, and jam out on the guitar when the mood strikes. So, what I mean to say, is I'm a hopelessly nerdy art-student.

11. Have you any pets?

I have three beautiful cats named Athena, Artemis, and Calliope!

12. What sports do you play/have played?

I did Irish Dance for 6 years, and Jazz dance for like, 3 months. I also did Cross Country for a semester, but really, that was just to prove I could if I wanted to (spoiler: I was not very good at it).

13. How tall are you?

I'm just barely 5'3"!

14. Favorite subject in school?

In terms of core classes, probably English/Literature. Overall? Art, if you couldn't guess XD

15. Dream job?

Well, in a dream world, I would get to direct and produce my own animated TV series OR be the art director for a cool video game OR do concept work for a big fantasy or sci-fi series (If you look at the bts video on creating the dwarves for the Hobbit triology, I'd do horrible atrocities to do what they do there).
