#Tory government sucks
Text
I hate having to live off of benefits. I hate this cost of living crisis. It's so cold right now it's making my pain 10 times worse and I can't afford to put the heating on for longer than an hour at a time.
This government really doesn't care about the poor and/or disabled. They've fucked us over for so long. So many are going to die this winter because of their negligence

This is waaay different to my usually posts but I think it’s important.
If you didn’t know, The prime minister of the UK, Rishi Sunak, wants to remove trans people from the 2010 equality act.
He stated in an article to the telegraph that he wants to make it clear that ‘sex means biological sex not gender’
The 2010 equality act currently protects people from discrimination regarding their sexuality, gender identity, race or religious belief.
In the aforementioned equality act, trans people are protected regardless of whether they have undergone or plan to undergo surgery, or do not plan to undergo surgery. They are also protected regardless of whether they hold the gender recognition certificate.
This act also means trans people can access single sex, health care, shelters, bathrooms and more.
According to the telegraph, Rishi Sunak wants to remove these rights.
If this was to happen, then trans men and women will not have access to their gender specific spaces such as toilets.
This is only in talks but please help anyway you can, spread the word.
It’s not fair that trans people should be ostracised from society just because the government insists on moving backwards in time.

As someone who lives in America & not the UK (I'm not even from the UK) fuck EVERYONE who supports the monarchy. Fuck King Charles. Fuck all of the Royal Family. I can't believe they spent loadws of money on a stupid god damn coronation instead of helping their homeless, starving, and freezing citizens.
Americans would be horrified if this was happening in a non-white I country. Americans should hate the monarchy (it is our 1culture/j) because they are letting this happen to their citizens.
Everyone in the UK should hate the monarchy because your neighbors and friends and family are starving and freezing and the 112w big party so that Charles could finally be king was the best decision for your 2 money.
If you don't care about this, admit you're a Tory/whatever the fuck an American Tory is. Admit you're classiest and don't care about poor people. This is fucked up and shouldn't be ignored.
Bring back the guillotine for monarchs.

More than 20 countries, including those now complaining, had signed the original text, which included a commitment to the repeal of any laws that “allow harmful practices, or restrict women’s and girls’ … sexual and reproductive health and rights, bodily autonomy.”
But those phrases were removed from a later version of the international pact, which is currently online and has been signed by six countries, including the UK and Malta, where abortion is illegal. The country had not been one of the original signatories.
[...]
The resulting, amended, statement on gender equality makes a commitment to challenging “discriminatory laws that justify, condone, or reinforce violence, discrimination, or inequalities on the grounds of religion, belief or gender and that restrict women and girls’ full and equal enjoyment of human rights”. It makes no mention of sexual or reproductive rights or bodily autonomy.

idk why but i keep randomly getting mad about brexit again tonight
#i know it was nearly a decade ago now but it sucks so much#i miss there being people from all over europe in the uk and i hate how the government makes out like it was something everyone wanted#when nearly half the country voted against it (MORE than half in scotland and northern ireland)#and generally the way the government dehumanises immigrants who are just human beings who want somewhere nice to live and are#worth 1000 of the tory scum that run the country sucks so so much and i hate the way the government makes these rules and#policies and assumes we'll go along with it or that we're all as devoid of empathy as they are#& i hate that as someone born elsewhere in europe i was made to feel like the country didn't want to during my most formative teenage years#and i hate that no-one asked me or anyone i know whether we would want to allow refugees or most immigrants into the country because#i would have said yes in a heartbeat#and i was thinking about how much fewer students from abroad there are at my uni compared to several years ago and it's really really#sad and i miss them being around#and i hate the way people turn round blame the cost of living crisis ON immigrants when it's literally almost entirely because of brexit an#it's stupid policies only people are too dumb or too xenophobic to realise it#anyway whatever i just felt like having a rant because it all makes me so mad sometimes#and people never really talk about brexit anymore or they act like it's no longer relevant now it's happened but it still matters a lot to#me actually

r/ukvisa is a treasure trove of useful info and experience and has saved me so many times by digging up home office policies buried on the website that could get a visa rejected but boy does it not take a lot for several people on that sub to throw disabled people/"illegal" immigrants/asylum seekers/the entire concept of taxation and socialised healthcare/etc under the bus
#yes it fucking sucks that we have to pay the ihs#it sucks double that you have to pay the ihs even when you are paying national insurance#i do not like being taxed twice when the tory besties with millions barely get taxed either!#the solution to that is not 'get rid of the nhs it barely works and move to private healthcare entirely' can you actually hear yourself#or to say 'well i shouldn't have to contribute to the nhs as i never get sick ever and i pay for private healthcare when i do get sick'#or 'the government is so busy bleeding money from us the Good Legal High-Earning Immigrants Who Deserve To Be Here and ignoring the people.#... crossing in small boats who don't deserve to be here'#i am not even paraphrasing much lol 'this government hates people who want to be here legally' is a running comment on the sub#my good pal they hate ALL immigrants#they hate some of us less than others but they're not after us bc they have some sympathy (???) for asylum seekers they're doing it bc they#see a cash cow that isn't their besties and are trying to make it ridiculously difficult to get in the country. bc they don't like immigran#this coupled with labour's announcement today that THEY would actually be good and harsher with small boat crossings and i guess kill more#asylum seekers as though that's a matter of fucking pride#has pissed me off ok#rhetoric in this country towards 'less desirable' immigrants and asylum seekers and refugees has always been vile but god#have suella braverman and priti patel really done a number on it bc it's so so unabashedly violent in the last few years#i'd also like to point out that people struggling to be in the uk 'legally' (quote marks for a reason) & resorting to other means is a#direct consequence of the hostile environment and how hard it is to get a visa logistically financially etc#anyway i don't understand the 'it is hard for me therefore let me make it fucking harder for everyone else instead of attacking the people#in charge who made it this way and benefit from us being screwed over'#the model minority thing got in our heads and infected us you gotta cut it out and stop trying to be the good immigrant and ffs don't do th#tories job for them#i am. mad. ok i'm done now#ukpol#immigration#abolish borders today pls#2023 is an experience#my post

From the news I'm getting here across the Pond, it seems like Liz Truss has perhaps achieved a marvel in that she's turning out to be more incompetent than Boris "Big Dog" Johnson. What are the chances the U.K. will have a new Prime Minister by the end of the year?
Yeah, she's exactly as competent really but, and this cannot be overstated, the person whose mess she's inherited IS Boris Johnson. But she compounds this with a Chancellor who is much, much worse.
Uh, this answer got long, sorry about that, but lol what can you do? Exercise restraint? Pfft.
By the end of the year... probably slim, as hilarious as the letters of no confidence are; the party can't survive another new leader that quickly. Johnson's greatest legacy - his greatest gift to the left - is the one he was always going to leave: he rose to power on a platform of 'feelings not facts', a method that is highly effective in the short term but horrendously unsustainable in the long run, once the shine of the bombast wears off and people realise that the bins aren't going out anymore. You cannot bluster and jazz hands your way through running a country indefinitely. You have to be competent at the daily grind.
Big Dog was not.
But during his tenure, everyone either threw all their weight behind him to suck his Union Jack-coloured cock and get a cushy ride themselves, or they were openly fired for disloyalty. He single-handedly created a Tory party that was defined by patriotism-flavoured incompetence. And then the bubble burst, and his old nemesis Mr Consequences came calling, and the situation was, very suddenly, that he was hot garbage - just absolute weapons-grade 'this is not a place of honour' levels of toxic - to have in charge of the party, but most importantly, crucially, none of them could get rid of him without also incriminating themselves.
That's why it took so long before the wave of resignations finally kicked things into happening. That's why it had to be a wave of resignations. None of the limping high school debating champions that were left in government could survive without him; even though he was actively poisoning them, they would die immediately with him gone. The tipping point came when finally that particular cost-benefit analysis see-sawed the other way.
And what's left? What was always going to be left: a hardcore radical group of 'feelings not facts' fascists, and an insipid hodgepodge of self-deluded clowns with the life skills of a particularly underwhelming five-year-old, all of whom are embroiled in bitter internal bitching wars and cliques and spend their days writing each other's names in a Burn Book rather than doing their jobs.
Everyone is blaming each other. No one is taking responsibility. The party can no longer agree on anything, except perhaps "Woe is us."
This latest leadership contest was actually a vicious thing that added to the damage and made the in-fighting worse. If we now add ANOTHER to the pile... well. I think we would see, at minimum, mass defections to UKIP. Very possibly some new political parties, like what Labour did when Jeremy Corbyn was too left-wing for them so Angela Smith and Chuka Umunna founded Change UK and claimed it was because Corbyn was racist and then Angela described people of colour as "black or a funny tinge... you know, a different... from the BAME community" and then Change UK was quietly dissolved after 10 months and no one remembers them anymore. It would be a disaster, is what I'm saying.
A new Chancellor, though... that's more likely, I think. Kwasi Kwarteng was rumoured to have had an affair with Liz Truss and honestly I strongly suspect that's why he got the job - he wrote a stupid book about economics that no one liked, on the night of the Brexit vote was overheard by a journalist saying “Who cares if sterling crashes? It will come back up again", and then became Chancellor, and then released a mini-budget last week that has tanked the pound to the lowest performance against the dollar since records began and immediately embroiled his PM into a financial crisis so bad she literally went into hiding for a day and a half. The UK is... actually completely fucked, as of this week. I cannot overstate what a fucking unmitigated disaster that budget is, or the damage it's causing. We were already doing very badly. This is catastrophic. This is like having an infected foot and everyone being concerned because it's turning gangrenous, and then Kwasi turns up and chops off both your legs and your dominant hand and then also the legs and dominant hands of everyone else present as well, except for himself and his rich mates. We are a long, long way beyond "First, do no harm."
But Kwarteng is also very replaceable.
However:
Liz Truss is extraordinarily stupid. I honestly don't know if it will occur to her to sacrifice him. If she's sensible she will; but 'sensible' is not a word I associate with Liz Truss.
The other option, of course, is an early general election being called, for the seven-hundred-and-fifteenth time in the last decade I stg. However, Tories only call for those if they stand a chance of winning.
One poll yesterday put Labour thirty-three points ahead of the Tories.
To put that into perspective, if that were to translate into a GE performance, the outcome of the vote would leave the Tories with...
THREE SEATS.
But! Of course! It's not so simple anyway:
That was an opinion poll, and those are always more extreme than an actual vote because people use them to express dissatisfaction. A vote would not be that extreme.
That was one of several polls yesterday. If we take an average, the actual figures are:
Labour are nineteen points ahead of the Tories.
Would you like some context?
In 1999 when Tony Blair won his landslide Labour victory - the greatest Labour lead in recent history - do you know what his polling lead was?
Twelve points.
Lol
So it is vanishingly unlikely the Tories will call a GE themselves. Their only hope now is that they can somehow do a good enough job to fix their party and win public confidence back before the next GE, which will be no later than January 2025.
In ENTIRELY UNRELATED NEWS I'm sure, Labour have just declared that they are backing a change to a proportional representation voting system in place of the UK's archaic first past the post system. Funny that.

All of the South Asians in the Tory government gleefully pressing down the jackboot right now are so fucking depressing. Imagine your ancestors who fucking starved to death under colonialism looking at you become a cog in the same machine. Imagine sucking up to the inbred pig whose wealth was stolen from your people. Imagine having the audacity to think it's something to be proud of or celebrate lol.

oh, absolutely! and that’s why i’m honestly so fed up with these online leftists. they act like they were the first people to sound the alarm on bunch of horrible shit and go all defeatist, completely disrespecting the work of activists and organizers who have been trying to fix these issues since before they were even a thought. there’s this widespread idea that the systems won’t ever work in a way that’s fair because they weren’t designed to, and while yes, the systems were designed to be unfair and awful to marginalized groups, gutting them won’t solve the problem if there’s nothing to replace them with. mutual aid is a wonderful thing and i’m happy to see people talking about it but i don’t think a lot of them realize it can’t replace a system. it can help but it can’t be this thing you throw everything into because you’re disillusioned with the systems. the only way to make those systems better is to vote in candidates who will but these people are so sick of being told to vote they just refuse to even entertain why people may be telling them to do that.
See, this is where far-right libertarians and far-left "burn the whole system down!!!" ideologies once more collide. Far-right libertarians don't want to participate in society and don't want to be responsible for the welfare of others and don't want any rules and definitely no regulations and so on and so forth. Far-left "revolutionaries" claim to want the same thing in terms of destroying the existing system, but they do so out of some misguided idea that either some new and completely perfect system will magically spring from the ashes (spoiler alert: no), or that informal neighborhood-level networks of mutual aid (however they define that, when they're often willing to totally exclude people who disagree with them about the smallest things, so why would they help people they disagree with on everything else?) can replace, as you say, the entire system.
The thing is, if you're reduced to informally scraping along with your local neighbors and have absolutely no other recourse or formal system of governance and/or distribution, you're living in a failed state, and nobody who has ACTUALLY been through that experience thinks, as the Online Leftists do, that it would be a great idea. This is another thing about their total failure to learn from history, or listen to anyone who isn't American, despite the tankies' insistence that America causes all evil in the world forever. My friends who grew up in the former USSR sure don't think their system was great, even if it was called "socialism" or "communism" or whatever terms the left wants to use with no appreciation of their difficulties. And so on.
Basically, it reminds me of when the Brexit loons were insisting that it made no difference to food supply if Britain left the EU, because, and I quote, "Britain is a nation of farmers, we can grow food in our back gardens!" As if the entire point of human civilization has been to bring us back to personal subsistence farming, which has generally been acknowledged throughout history to totally suck and also be the least reliable way of providing for yourself, and also... the idea that personally growing food in your nice back garden in Kent can replace the entire structure and system of the EU single market and customs union is completely absurd. To say the fucking least, and to anyone whose brain isn't poisoned with Brexit Brexit Brexit! And yes, hey presto, Britain is now experiencing food difficulties and frantically blaming it on anything except Brexit. Meanwhile, Sunak finally negotiated a new Northern Ireland protocol with the EU, but it's anyone's guess if it'll pass the Commons, since the Tory backbenchers just reflexively nuke anything that suggests any cooperation with the EU or any acceptance of EU law. Because they want to pretend the EU never existed! (Even though it was Margaret Thatcher's idea/initiative, shh.) Yeah. That'll work.
So yeah. If you live in your own world where facts don't exist, or exist only to support your preferred ideology, and your insistence that destroying the system with nothing to replace it is the best idea... it is, uh, dumb. Which is the nicest way I can possibly put it. It's never worked out before, it won't work out now, and honestly, "I'm tired of being told to vote after I didn't vote and then things went wrong!" is an argument I have NO sympathy for whatsoever. I know things are bad. You know things are bad. If there's a simple, easy way to start fixing it -- and systems CAN be fixed, even if it takes time and is not the instant dopamine gratification of moral posturing on social media -- where you have to participate once every two years, and you don't do it, then yeah. I don't think that person is serious about fixing anything, and I have no obligation or desire to listen to them at all.
