Tim Drake is Bi
I don’t usually post my personal thoughts on this account but I really need to get this off my chest.
So...Tim Drake, the third Robin, came out as bi in Batman: Urban Legends #6 (UL). Technically, he has not assigned any labels to himself yet but both the writer and her creative team as well as DC official accounts have confirmed he’s queer.
Tim is my favorite character, I grew up reading his comics and I think him being bi fits his character very well. Personally, I've always considered him queer (like many others) and I find Tim's exploration in UL very realistic, it reminds me of my bi awakening. However, I have seen a lot of people hating on this news and being very toxic about it. This is very sad and also frustrating since most of their arguments are pretty weak in my opinion so I’m going to address the points that bother me the most.
1. Tim has only dated girls before and never showed any signs of liking boys in the 30yrs that his character has been around.
Let me make it clear: even though Tim has only dated girls in the past, it was never explicitly stated that he was straight, people just assumed and times weren't as progressive when Tim's character was created so writers wouldn't have been able to write him as queer even if they wanted to. Furthermore, as hinted before, a lot of people already believed he was queer and it can be argued that there’s a lot of subtext in previous comics making Tim a queer-coded character. His relationship with Conner (Superboy) is the most talked about in regards to the queer subtext. When Conner died, Tim took his death very hard to the point that he tried cloning him 99 times (Teen Titans Vol 3 #34). At the time, Tim had also lost his father, Bart, his girlfriend Stephanie and Bruce. Out of all of those deaths, he really seems to have taken Conner’s the hardest even over his girlfriend's. Tim even changed the colours of his costume as a tribute to Conner.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Another iconic scene can be found in Graduation Day #5 (2003) where Tim and Conner are in a closet which was seen as ambiguous by many readers to the extent that even the writer Judd Winnick replied to a Tweet saying that he saw it as the opportunity for them to come out of the closet.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Even in the New 52 reboot where their past relationship was erased, there are quite a few instances that can be read through the queer subtext. Most notoriously, in the 2015 Teen Titans run in the annual #1 and Teen Titans #12. In the latter, Tim is basically having a breakdown trying to stop Conner going back to the villain Harvest. It’s very emotional.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And let’s not forget when Tim joined a pride parade in Teen Titans #24 (2015).
Tumblr media
One of my favourite instances is the one in Batman Detective Comics #967 when Tim is the only one remembering Conner.
Tumblr media
 2. Why can’t they create new characters or use a character already established as part of the LGBT community?
I think him being a well established character and one of the Robins is a massive deal for representation. Side characters or even new ones often don't receive any spotlight or the right recognition but DC are making a stronger statement with such an important IP like Robin.  Also, bi men usually get less representation compared to bi women and while DC already has bi characters like Constantite or the recently introduced Ghost Maker, it can’t be denied that they don’t have the same popularity as Robin.
Furthermore, Robin is also an already loved and well-rounded character with many stories behind him and I feel this could help readers identify with him more easily. I really think Tim is a perfect choice, not only because of the instances mentioned in the previous point, but also because he’s been seen questioning his place as well as his identity as a superhero a lot in recent comics which can also be seen as a hint foreshadowing the exploration of his sexuality.
 3. This coming out is forced. They are changing a character’s sexuality to appease the Twitter crowd. Why do they have to talk about a character's sexuality?
As I established in point 1, nowhere in 32ish years was confirmed that Tim was straight. Even if readers have enjoyed Tim’s stories for decades, he's still canonically a teenager and traditionally this is the age when people start exploring their sexuality so questioning himself is not unrealistic at all. Personally, I think it was done very well in UL and I’m sure that many readers have had a similar experience. It also doesn't mean that Tim’s sexuality was "changed". Sexuality is a complex thing and people can take years to discover themselves. Tim being bi doesn't change what is great about the character nor does it erase his past relationships and experiences.
The people complaining forget that being straight is also a sexuality so why it is okay for a character to allude to a straight relationship but not to a queer one unless those people are being hyprocrits? And the hypocrisy doesn’t end there if we think about the bi women characters those same people are okay with (e.g.  Poison Ivy, Harley Quinn, and Catwoman). And for straight people who say it's forced, think: how long have we had heteronormativity forced down our throat? In this particular case, you don’t have to go that far, just think about the Batman and Robin relationship. This relationship was considered queer-coded very early on when the characters where created to the point that DC intruduced the first incarnation of Batwoman as a potential love interest for Batman and later pushed for the the first Robin, Dick Grayson, to have a playboy persona on par with his father figure to try and placate conservative readers.
4. Tim Drake and Stephanie Brown. Why did they break up off panel? Why break them up at all? They only broke them up to make Tim queer.
Stephanie Brown aka Spoiler aka Robin aka Batgirl has been Tim Drake’s main love interest for many years. Many people love this relationship, me included. However, I can’t deny that there are some things that make me think that maybe they are not that good for each other like the power imbalance that comes through in some comics, especially the earlier ones. Sometimes it also feels like her character only exists to give meaning to the men around her which is sad since her character has a lot of potential but it is often left aside.
That said, Tim has not denied his love for Stephanie in UL and him being bi does not invalidate what they had in the past or can still have in the future. In regards to their break up, a lot of people feel that it was out of the blue or that there was no need for it since he’s bi. I admit that they could have handled it a little bit better BUT it’s also true that Tim’s been going through some personal discoveries. This can be very overwhelming and some people may prefer dealing with that on their own first and even turn away from the people who love you the most.
In UL #6, Tim even admits that he broke up with Stephanie for no reason but it’s also true that Tim has always put others’ needs before his own (see how he became Robin in the first place) so I don’t think it’s far-fetched that he now wants to deal with figuring himself out on his own. It was long overdue in my opinion. This doesn't mean that Tim and Stephanie’s relationship won’t be addressed later on. Let’s consider the fact that Urban Legends #6 is not the last we’ll see of Tim but this chapter of his story has just begun so there’s still a lot to be explored and even though many people considered this move by DC to be a form of money grub (let's be real, what isn't these days), it can still be good for representation if done right. We’ll just have to wait and see.
I want to end by saying that whatever your opinion is on the matter, there is no excuse for hate. You can still be respectful of other people’s opinions and if not, just move on with your life. Trust me, you’ll live longer if you don’t poison yourself with hate and there are things far more important than a comic character coming out on which you can spend your energy on.
Thank you.

Please can you explain why people go to Visit Saints Graves, the person is buried deep underground and not on the surface, what is the purpose of this strange phenomenon, why do people go there, is it not Shirk, are they not grave worshiping?
Bismillah; The Energy of the Ka'baa comes deep from within the heavens why do we try to touch the Ka'baa bricks? because of the Nisaab-connection and Barakah-blessings the same is true with the graves of the Saints, its all Nisaab-connection and Barakah-blessings. Nobody prays at or towards the bricks of the Ka'baa, the Energy comes down from Heaven from the Heavenly Ka'baa called (Bayt al-Ma'mur) it is from that Nisaab-connection and Barakah-blessings we are actually drink from.
Do you Worship the Stones of the Ka'baa? that is Shirk too! Also in Hadith it say 300 prophets are buried under the Ka'baa too, those who pray at the Ka'baa don't realise its (The Biggest Sufi Shrine). So whoever goes there are they not too doing Shirk too?
What makes them any different from those who go to the holy graves of saints to who go there for Nisaab-connection and Barakah-blessings? We dont accuse them of Shirk so dont do the same. Also from the Quran it says "Construct a building over them" of the Holy Ones the saints and Sunnah of praying at Masjid al-Khayf in (Mina) which has 70 prophets buried there too.
Below are some of the daleel-proofs; Abu Bakr Al Faqih has related from the Holy Prophet (salallahu alayhi wasallam) that he said: "There was no prophet who escaped from his people that he did not come to Makkah and worshipped Allah till he died. And there are the graves of Hud, Shuyab and Saleh and between Zamzam and Maqam and in the Kaaba there are the graves of 300 prophets. Between ‘Rukn Yamani’ and ‘Rukn Aswad’ are the graves of 70 prophets." Abu Bakr Ahmed bin al-Faqih Al- Hamdani (died 340 A.H.) - Akhbar Makkah (Azraqi) 1/121 -No 83 Tafseer Al-Qurtubi, Vol 2 pg 401
Thus did We make their (i.e. Ashaab al-Kahf) case known to the people, that they might know that the promise of Allah is true, and that there can be no doubt about the Hour of Judgment. Behold, they dispute among themselves as to their affair. (Some) said, "Construct a building over them": Their Lord knows best about them: "THOSE WHO PREVAILED OVER THEIR AFFAIR SAID: LET US SURELY BUILD A MOSQUE OVER THEM" (Surah al-Kahf 18:21)
(Making mosque on cave) ”IS PROOF OF MAKING MOSQUES OVER THE GRAVES OF SALIHEEN” just like It is mentioned in Tafsir al-Kahf.
"...don't you see that Grave of Sayyiduna Isma'il is inside the Masjid ul Harram near the Al-Hijr (Hateem) and to Pray there is Superior than anything else ” and "In the Al-Hijr (Hateem) near Hajr al Aswad and Mizaab there are “Graves of 70 Prophets”
The early Muslims (Salaf) have considered it Mubah (i.e. allowed) to build over the graves of famous Mashaikh and Ulama so that people can visit them and sit there (easily) Mulla Ali Qari
"When the people of the cave went into the cave, some people close to the entrance of the cave said, 'Build a mosque so we can worship Allah.' The people who said this were Muslims" (Tafsir Tabari, Tafsir Ibn Kathir)
Narrated by Ibn Umar from Prophet (salallahu alayhi wasallam) who said: "In the Masjid of al-Khayf there is Qabr of 70 Prophets (together)" Masjid al-Khayf is in (Mina).
Ref: Hafiz Ibn Katheer (774 Hijri) Al-Bidayah wa ‘n-Nihayah Vol 1 pg 276 Tareekh-ul-lslam (Dhahabi ) Vol 2 pg 20 Ibn `Asakir (571 Hijri) in Tareekh Dimashq Vol 35 pg 100. Hafiz Dhahabi (student of Ibn Taymiyyah) in Tahdheeb-ul-Kamal Vol 6 pg 19. Fath-ul-Qadeer Vol 2 pg 321 Tahdheeb-ut-Tahdheeb Vol 6 pg 227 Al-Isabah Vol 4 pg 171
Graves of Seventy Prophets in Masjid al-Kheef and seventy (70) Prophets have been buried" can be found in below references: Majma`-uz-Zawaid 3/640 No 5769 Akhbar Makkah (Fakihi) 4/266 – No 2594 Kashf-ul-Asrar 2/48 -No 1177 Al-Mu`jam Al-Kabeer No 13343 Mukhtasar Zawaid Bazzar 1/476 -No 813 Fayd-ul-Kabeer No 5965 Al-Matalib-ul-`Aliyah 7/175 – No 1332
note: Sahih Hadith are used for Hudud, and actions to Increase ibadah, many are based on Fada’il A‘mal which has are weak Hadith Great hadith experts such as Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal, Ibn al-Mahdi, ‘Abd Allah ibn al-Mubarak said: “When we narrate in regards to the lawful (halal) and unlawful (haram) we exercise extreme strictness and when we narrate in regards to virtues and the like (stories and narratives) then we are more lenient. (See Suyuti’s Tadrib al-Rawi). We learn from this statement that the scholars were more relaxed in the case of using weak hadith in virtues, but were very strict when it came to aspects of belief or juristic (fiqhi) rulings. There were also other conditions for accepting weak hadiths. For instance, the weakness should not be extreme that it is bordering on fabrication or the hadith should not be a spurious one. Likewise the weak hadith should not contradict an established principle of Shari’ah or go against the spirit of the teachings of Islam (See Tadrib al-Rawi).

Tablighi Nisab and other Sufi books تصفح برقم المجلد > Group 2 > Volume 2: `Aqidah > Sufism > Tablighi Nisab and other Sufi books Fatwa no. 20234 Q: I am a Muslim man living in Britain and want to follow the way of Ahl-ul-Sunnah wal-Jama`ah (adherents to the Sunnah and the Muslim mainstream) in all the affairs of my life. Accordingly, I tried to read some religious books written in the Urdu language. During my reading some books compiled by the renowned and prominent Indian scholar, who is a member of the Deobandis, Shaykh Muhammad Zakariyya Kandahlawy, a scholar of Hadith studies, I found that the fifth chapter of his book Tablighi Nisab, (Part No. 2; Page No. 98)  p. 113, containing a story the author quoted from the book entitled "Rawnaq Al-Majalis". It relates an account of a merchant who died and his wealth was distributed between his two sons. In addition to the wealth, the deceased also left the hair of the Prophet's head which the younger son took and gave up his share in the legacy to his elder brother. A short time later, the son who took the money went bankrupt whereas the younger brother became very rich. The story continues to say that after the death of this brother who took the hair of the Prophet, some benevolent people had a dream of the Prophet (peace be upon him) and the Prophet told him that whoever has a certain need should go to the grave of the younger brother and supplicate to Allah at the grave and their need will be fulfilled. This story is quoted from the book "Tabligh Nisab." I have also read another book titled "The History of the Shaykhs of Jathat" by the same author Shaykh Muhammad Zakariyya, (p. 232) where he mentions that while Shaykh Hajji Imdadullah Muhajir Makki was on his deathbed, one of his followers who was deeply sad and moved by him visited him. However, he addressed him saying, "Do not be sad; the ascetic servant does not die; he only moves from a place to another and he fulfils people's need while in his grave exactly as he was alive. Quoted from "The History of (Part No. 2; Page No. 99)  Shaykhs of Jathat." I would like to hear Your opinions in this regard. Is the author who relates this story still a Muslim after the creed evidently manifested in his books? Kindly, clarify the point and substantiate your argument with the relevant evidence from the Qur'an and the Sunnah. If he is not considered a Muslim, then what is the evidence from the Qur'an and the Sunnah that he is a renegade? A: The content these books impart like the accounts you mentioned in the question about the false innovations in religion and superstitions are groundless, for there is no evidence in their support in Allah's Book and the Sunnah of His Prophet. Only those of false nature and blind vision may adopt these beliefs. As for claiming that the Prophet's hair still exists and brings richness to whoever possesses it, and the claim of seeing the Prophet in dream and the advice the Prophet gave to supplicate by this man's grave, these are baseless lies. It is authentically reported that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, Satan does not assume my form. [Al-Bukhari, Sahih, Book on knowledge, no. 110; Muslim, Sahih, Book on dreams, no. 2266; Al-Tirmidhy, Sunan, Book on dreams, no. 2280; Abu Dawud, Sunan, Book on manners, no. 5023; Ibn Majah, Sunan, Book on dream interpretation, no. 3901; and Ahmad, Musnad, vol. 5, p. 306.')] Thus, how can the Prophet advise people to supplicate to Allah by the graves? Indeed, it is he who forbade that during his life and warned against it vehemently. He even warned against extreme beliefs in prophets and righteous people and against invoking them after their death. The Prophet (peace be upon him) died after conveying the religion of Allah in full, thus the religion accepts no addition (Part No. 2; Page No. 100)  or omission. Believing that Du`a's (supplications) beside graves are answered is an innovated and baseless Bid`ah. It may even lead to major Shirk if a person seeks the help of the dead buried in the grave alone or besides Allah, or believed that the deceased may benefit or harm them. It is Allah Alone Who brings about benefit and lets harm occur. Likewise, believing that the devoted servant does not die and only moves from a place to another where he fulfills people's needs while in his grave just as he was alive, is false and a groundless belief of the deviant sects of Sufism. Texts of the Qur'an and authentic Hadith indicate that every human will eventually die, for Allah (Exalted be He) says, Verily you (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) will die, and verily they (too) will die. [Surah Al-Zumar, 39: 30] He (Exalted be He) says, And We granted not to any human being immortality before you (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم): then if you die, would they live forever? [Surah Al-Anbiya', 21: 34] Everyone is going to taste death [Surah Al-Anbiya', 21: 35] Furthermore, the authentic Hadith in this regard state that when a person dies, all his deeds come to an end except for three: beneficial knowledge, a righteous son who prays for him, or ongoing charity. If the deceased in his grave can not ward off or bring benefit for himself, he can not do that for another a fortiori. It is not permissible to seek the fulfillment (Part No. 2; Page No. 101)  of needs from anyone other than Allah, for He is the only One able to grant such needs. Seeking the help of the dead for fulfilling needs of people is a major polytheistic act. Anyone who maintains other than that is committing major disbelief that drives him out of the pale of Islam, Allah forbid! Indeed, he denies the authentic evidence of the Qur'an and the Sunnah of the Prophet (peace be upon him). Therefore, anyone who does that must sincerely repent to Allah and resolve not to commit such acts again. He should follow the way of the early righteous Muslims to gain Allah's content and escape His punishment.May Allah grant us success. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions. ⭐ The Special Angel Of Ayat-Ul-Kursi ⭐ Narrated Abu Hurairah (R.A.): The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) put me in charge of the Zakat Revenue of Ramadan. Somebody came & started stealing from the foodstuff. I caught him & said, "I will take you to Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)!" He said, "I am a needy man with a large family, & so I have a pressing need." I let him go. When I saw the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) next morning, he asked me, "O Abu Hurairah! What did your captive do last night?" I said, "O Messenger of Allah! He complained of a pressing need & a big family. I felt pity for him so I let him go." He (ﷺ) said, "He told you a lie & he will return." I was sure, according to the saying of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) that he would return. I waited for him. (The Incident repeated a 2nd time again) and I went at dawn to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) who asked me, "O Abu Hurairah! What did your captive do last night?" I replied, "O Messenger of Allah! He complained of his great need & the burden of a big family. I took pity on him and so I let him go." He (ﷺ) said, "He told you a lie & he will return." That person came (a 3rd time) again to steal the food-stuff. I caught hold of him & said, "I will surely take you to Allah's Messenger (ﷺ), and this is the last of three times. You promised that you would not come again but you did." He said, "Let go of me, I shall teach you some words with which Allah will benefit you." I asked, "What are those words?" He replied, "Whenever you go to bed, recite Ayat-ul- Kursi (2:255) for there will be a Guardian appointed over you from Allah, and Satan will not be able to approach you till morning." So I let him go. Next morning the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) asked me, "What did your prisoner do last night." (I narrated the incident) The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, "Verily, he has told you the truth though he is a liar. O Abu Hurairah! Do you know with whom you were speaking for the last three nights?" Umar's letter to Muawiyah regarding the attack on the house of Fatima az-Zahra (sa) Umar ibne Khattab wrote a letter to Muawiyah: " I went to the house of Ali, after having decided with others to bring him out of the house. Fizza came out and I told her, ‘Tell Ali to come out and swear the oath of allegiance to Abu Bakr . for all Muslims have done so.’ Fizza replied that Ali was busy in arranging the Quran. I said, ’Keep this talk aside, tell Ali to come out or else we will forcefully enter the house and bring him out!’ At that moment, Fatima came and stood with her back towards the door and said, ‘O misled liars! What do you say and what do you want from us?’ I addressed her and she said, ‘What do you want O Umar?’ I replied, ‘Why has your cousin sent you here to reply while he remains seated behind veils?’ Fatima said, ‘Your rebellion has brought me out O Umar and I have ended my proof upon you, and every misled is erroneous.’ I said, ‘Keep these vain and womanish words aside and tell Ali to come out of the house.’ She replied, ‘You are not worthy of love and generosity. Do you make us fear the ‘Party of the Devil’ O Umar? Verily the Party of the Devil are the losers!’ (Surah Mujadilah (58): 19) Hearing this I said, ‘If Ali does not come out of the house, I will bring fuel and kindle a fire and burn down the house along with its dwellers or I will take Ali to the Masjid for (the oath of) allegiance.’ Then I took the whip (of Qunfudh) and struck Fatima with it and told Khalid ibne Walid, ‘Bring firewood’, then again I told her, ‘I will burn down the house!’ Fatima said, ‘O enemy of Allah and enemy of the Prophet of Allah and the enemy of the Commander of the Faithful!’ Two hands came out from behind the door to stop me from entering the house, however I pushed back the hands and then pushed the door with force, while striking at her hands with the whip, so that she would let go of the door. She wailed and wept due to the intense pain of the whip and her weeping was such a heart-rendering scream that it was as if my heart was going to melt and I almost retreated. Suddenly, I recalled the envy and avarice which I had towards Ali because he was the one that had shed the blood of the eminent Quraish apostates and thus, I kicked at the door, however she had grasped the door such that it would not open. When I kicked at the door, I heard the cry of Fatima and thought that this cry would topple the entire city of Medina. In this state Fatima called out, ‘O Father! O Prophet of Allah! How do they treat your beloved and your daughter! O Fizza! Hasten to my aid, for by Allah, the child in my womb has been killed.’ I presumed that Fatima had stood with her back to the wall due to the extreme pain of labour and at this point, I pushed at the door with intense force and the door opened. When I entered therein, Fatima came and stood in front of me (even though she was in immense pain), but my intense anger had overwhelmed me as if a veil was cast before my eyes. In this state, I slapped her on her face, striking her veil, and she fell down to the ground." [After the martyrdom of Imam Hussain at Karbala, Abdullah ibne Umar along with a group of people from Medina came to Syria. They protested in front of Yazid regarding his atrocities at Karbala and in this gathering, Yazid told Abdullah ibne Umar “Do you wish to see the letter of your father”, saying this he brought forth the letter (quoted in the text) of Umar which was kept in a case and then he gave it to Abdullah] [Akseer ul ibadaat P:108-112 , Dalail al-Imamah vol. 2 ]

1 - Introduction
So a break for the better part of March apparently extends to most of April. That's fine. It gives time to reflect, struggle with exams, play some video games, all that good Jazz. In regards to reflection, it became apparent that daily updates was a noble goal, but a bit demanding, and my favorite posts were the Saturday recap posts, so why not try to make irregular but meatier Saturday posts only? As the content above shows, I thought it better if a bunch of good content was gathered for some relaxing perusal, coffee in hand.

2 - Revitalizing the Ancients
I would be remise not to talk Breath of the Wild. The only problem is, the game pretty much speaks for itself, quality and qualities wise, doesn't it? Yet, since last I posted, I completed Final Fantasy XV, so it's not a bad idea to talk abot how these two ancient giants deal with awakening in today's gaming world.
I wasn't immediately floored by FFXV, but the sort of chill, super-realistic setting of magical pretty-boys and roadtripping in hostile territory quickly won me over. Talking abot it's story is both a laughably sort excercise and a maddingly long one, so I'm going to simply say: It's quite good, and quite incomplete. If you haven't played FFXV, just wait till all the updates and DLC are out, you'll get the full experience.
What FFXV truly was to me, was a fantasy of travelling around a lush green environment and mowing down wildlife and roaming weaponized armor troupes. The open world element, I realized, was simply a part of the mood. I could hardly go wherever I liked, and trying to explore, rarely revealed anything surprising. FFXV was, like so many earlier entried in the series, about it's combat. I'll get to why that's more than ok.
I haven't finished Breath of the Wild yet, but it's not trying to hide where it'll end up, so it doesn't require a lot of confidence to say that I see the bigger picture by now. BotW gets open world design. It gets it like no game before it. Everything is traversable and though there isn't a purpose to going all places, neither does it ever feel like a time waste. The level of detail in both the big picture and the smallest iota, is astounding. To be fair, BotW doesn't play much different from so many other games. Instead, it seems to say "This is how you should do open world", drops a mic and let's you play.
Both FFXV and BotW initially appear to be entering the modern world by seemingly accepting how Western developers design games: Real-time combat, ultra realistic graphics (FFXV) and go-where-ever-you-like, play-how-you-feel-like (BotW). Instead they both end up adhering to their roots in decidedly new ways. The Zelda puzzles, space-comprehension-requiring dungeons, grunting NPCs, tangible environments. It's all there, but in a far greater and smoother scale.
In many ways, it would be easy to call BotW the greater success, but I don't want to seem like I don't appreciate the technology behind FFXV. Consider the first time I entered the wood and monster infested Duscae area. I saw a creature I had a mark for. Me and my bodyguards flung into the fray and started hacking away. As the melee rolled around, we entered the vicinity of nearby monsters who happily obliged and suddenly the brawl was blooming into a war-like scenario. At that moment, a flying tank filled with soldiers came by to have a chat. I realize now, that this is crazy. The number of characters that FFXV supports at one point is mind blowing. No slow-downs, just more and more beasts. BotW on the other hand, nearly cracky my Wii U when I engaged five hulking moblins and a small batch of ice-bats in freezing tree-house. Perhaps BotW could achieve something like FFXV, but it's not the point. To these games, open world means different things. To BotW it's external: Go everywhere, always, whenever. To FFXV it's local: The immediate space is open to the battle system, now, to everyone.

3 - Coding for Your Own Sake
Why would you want to learn programming? Maybe the idea just appeals to you, or you have some greater goal in mind for the future. Right now, you just don't have a clue what to code.
Here's a way to find a small project: Just recreate another program, in the simplest way possible, and maybe add a tiny spin on it to give yourself a challenge. Cut out visuals, complicated functionality or even user friendliness. Just make it run.
So recently I thought, how about a music player? I'd like to try my hand at Python, that seemed like a pleasant langauge to code in.
Reading around a bit, I discovered that Python is all about importing so-called modules that do a lot of the complicated stuff for you. I simply googled various key words and started copy-pasting something together. I learned stuff about how mp3 files being a bit more complicated than I expected, and so I scaled the project back to simply playing .wav files. Currently doing a course about distributed systems, I thought, maybe I should make it a small radio program? This was bit more complicated, but no more than it all resulted in the following tiny program. Simply start the program with
python3 server.py [name of song].wav
in one terminal window, and start a client in another terminal window with
python3 client.py
and hear the music play. It even works across computers on the same network.
server.py
client.py

4 - LoFi Hip Hop Radio
Hiphop-like music coupled with looping images from amazingly relaxing anime is apparently a thing, and I see no reason not to endorse it one hundred percent. Below you see Shizuku Tsukishima from Whisper of the Heart feeling as relaxed as I hope you do. The image links to one of those previously mentioned hiphop radios.

5 - Enticing for Computer Science
The video above is one of toco toco tv's fantastic interviews with interesting and creative Japanese people. Manao Kagawa is a professional Shogi player, and, as far as I can understand, apparently somewhat uncommon, being female.
Besides being a wonderfully relaxing interview, it features a great part in the beginning where Kagawa-san goes to browse the Shirataki Gofukuten kimono shop. It seems that being a Shogi player requires you to wear somewhat formal wear, and the result is that the players looks insanely dashing.
What's even better though, is the mentioning of the Shirataku Ayumi Hai, a yearly Shogi tournament for female players to win beautiful and (I assume) quite expensive kimono.
A quite well-discussed subject, is how the rate of women joining Computer Science and the IT work force in general, is too low. I won't get into politics here, but what is a fact, is that Computer Scientists are in short supply everywhere in the world. At the same time, it seems the education world is mainly drawing from one of two pools of potential students (men). In other words, there is a whole other, quite untapped, pool of with potential students to draw from.
I've seen some really good initiatives to reverse the current trend, but I think the one seen in the video is a wonderfully aesthetic idea. I don't know if it manages to draw in new Shogi players Japan, but having some sort of algorithm competition aimed at high school age (or younger) girl, with very sought-after, classically feminine prizes1, seems like it could draw in a segment that normally has no interest in this branch of science, despite engaging in similar ones (mathematics, medicine, biology).

Big IT companies sponsor lots of things with huge amounts of money. Winning a Chanel handbag for solving algorithmic problems in high school, seems like quite a carrot. ↩︎

History says only 6 or 7 of college football’s 20 new FBS head coaches will still be around after 2022. So who’s gonna make it?
Two thirds of 2018’s new head coaches will likely be gone, one way or the other.
College football teams fire coaches way too rapidly, which leads to other coaches leaving their jobs early, which leads to those jobs needing to hire anew, and so on.
Since that trend’s probably not gonna change any time soon, it’s time to start thinking ahead as to which of 2018’s 20 new FBS head coaches will actually stick around for a while. (Idea borrowed from Podcast Ain’t Played Nobody.)
1. Your new coach will probably be gone within the next five full seasons.
Based on the previous seven fully completed five-year cycles, only a third of new hires actually make it through five whole seasons at the same school — and that’s even counting a few coaches who were fired or left immediately after those fifth seasons, like Dave Clawson staying through five full years at Bowling Green before leaving for Wake Forest.
Most head coaches get fired before completing five years, with some of them completing four and then getting fired partially through Year 5.
In the average coaching cycle, roughly the same number of coaches will either stick around for five full years or leave early (whether for another job, willful retirement, health reasons, or another reason other than termination).
2. Plenty of coaches won’t last anywhere near five full years.
For example, Butch Jones had two different three-year runs in this time period before he nearly reached five at Tennessee. And yes, I counted both of Pitt’s new head coach hires after the 2010 season as being fired (Mike Haywood) and leaving early (Todd Graham).
3. So! Who’s gonna make it this time?
Unless we have an outlier crop, we have to divide these 20 new coaches up roughly into thirds. Let’s make some guesses.
Fired before five full years
Nothing personal. Gotta pick at least seven names! Most of these simply boil down to these being verified hard jobs.
Mike Bloomgren, Rice (In addition to all the usual stuff, the Owls’ upcoming non-con schedules are really hard.)
Steve Campbell, South Alabama
Dana Dimel, UTEP (Already 30-39 as a head coach, including a stint at the far less challenging Houston.)
Herm Edwards, Arizona State (This would probably require an athletic director change first, I guess.)
Matt Luke, Ole Miss (Not counting 2017’s interim year. Because of NCAA sanctions, the Rebel legacy player deserves more patience than most new hires, but the SEC West is hard.)
Chad Lunsford, Georgia Southern
Jeremy Pruitt, Tennessee (The Vols have failed to reach expectations despite a previously experienced head coach, top recruiting, and a bad SEC East. The SEC East is probably no longer bad.)
Leaving before five full years
Most of these coaches have pretty clear geographic ties elsewhere.
Mario Cristobal, Oregon (The Ducks again have a coach with Florida ties. Great for recruiting, but not ideal if a top Sunshine State job opens. What if Mark Richt retires at age 60 or so?)
Josh Heupel, UCF (This offense sets up to keep scoring a ton of points. Future Big 12 HC job for the former Oklahoma QB?)
Sean Lewis, Kent State (The last guy got five years despite going 14-45. Hard to get fired from such a bleak job, but you should also get out ASAP.)
Joe Moorhead, Mississippi State (Second MSU coach in a row with lots of Northeast ties.)
Chad Morris, Arkansas (If he only treads water, he’ll still be mentioned for every Power 5 opening in Texas.)
Billy Napier, UL-Lafayette
Still around after five full years!
Near certainty: At least one of these coaches will be fired!
Sonny Dykes, SMU
Jimbo Fisher, Texas A&M (He’d still have a $35 million buyout at that point, but never put anything past the Aggies.)
Scott Frost, Nebraska
Chip Kelly, UCLA (Where’s he gonna go? He already chose UCLA over a top SEC job, and the NFL’s probably given up on him.)
Dan Mullen, Florida
Jonathan Smith, Oregon State (Say the native son makes a bowl every other year. That’s doable at OSU.)
Willie Taggart, Florida State (Oregon fans will go all LOL JOB-HOPPER SLICK WILLIE, but this is his actual dream job, not just the one he called his dream job in the intro presser.)
4. One thing: Will the Early Signing Period change this math?
We still don’t know a lot about how typical long-term planning changed as a result of the new December Signing Period. But there’s even more of an argument than ever for letting a 50/50 coach stick around another year, since a firing three weeks before the ESP could spoil a recruiting class. (That also means a hot-seat coach who stays will be gone even earlier in the following season, to try and get a new head coach installed well before mid-December.)
That’s also just based on one year of evidence, though. We don’t really know whether the far majority of players will sign in December every year or more players will wait until February next time, after seeing how the whole process shakes out in this inaugural year.
It’d be nice if schools pumped the brakes in general, especially as ridiculous buyouts continue to bloom, but lots of things would be nice.

Let’s scout.
For many teams, after this weekend, half the season will be over. I’m not okay with that. I don’t like the fact that football’s a fleeting siren that draws us in before torturing us with dreams of unrequited glory and honor before stealing away in the cold of winter to leave most of us unsatisfied. We need to treasure and cherish every single weekend that we’ve got. For those of you that schedule fall weddings, shame on you. You’re preventing us from the full enjoyment of a season that quickly recedes right before our eyes. Shame on you.
So, how can you enjoy this weekend to the fullest? Well, after Auburn beats Ole Miss (by an average of 46-11 according to our contributors), there will be a whole plethora of games to watch Saturday afternoon and into the night. Let’s run them down.
HIGH ELEVEN AM
Georgia @ Vanderbilt - 11:00 AM CST - Nashville, TN
I was in Neyland Stadium with my Tennessee fan wife last weekend when Georgia blanked the Vols 41-0. The sad thing for Tennessee and Butch Jones is that I don’t feel like Georgia looked all that impressive, it was just that the Vols couldn’t get out of their own way. It wasn’t hard for the Bulldogs to get past the unimaginative playcalling and a very present feeling that Butch had nearly lost the team.
Vanderbilt’s got a very good defense, even though Alabama tore them up, and so I think that Georgia might have a little more trouble on Saturday than they did a week ago. It’s another morning kickoff, and Kirby Smart will have a bit of a job to do to keep his guys from having that letdown after such a big win. Vandy won’t win, but they’ll show everyone that Georgia’s not quite a top five team yet.
2:30 TO YUMA
#23 West Virginia @ #8 TCU - 2:30 PM CST - Fort Worth, TX
TCU took out Arkansas earlier this year in fairly dominating fashion, then upset Oklahoma State just a couple weeks ago. The Frogs look really good, and playing at home I believe that they’ll have the upper hand here. It’s the College Gameday matchup on another weekend that’s not quite as exciting as you would hope, so the hype for this Big 12 clash will definitely be there.
West Virginia got lit up by Kansas’ offense last week (although Kansas’ defense was so bad that the win was never in doubt for the Mountaineers), and I think our old friend Kenny Hill should have a pretty easy time putting up points. TCU wins by double digits.
#13 Miami @ Florida State - 2:30 PM CST - Tallahassee, FL
Let’s be honest about this -- Florida State is not very good. It’s not really their fault, and Auburn fans can sympathize with their main issue of losing your starting quarterback to injury. As Deondre Francois went, so did the Seminoles. Now, the offense is under the control of a lanky freshman with two starts under his belt.
Meanwhile, Miami’s looked very good in its limited action so far this season. The Hurricanes are 3-0, albeit with victories over Bethune-Cookman, Arkansas State, and Duke. Still, they haven’t been stressed in any of those. Florida State’s lost to Alabama and NC State (still respectable), but the offense did nothing against the Tide, and the defense didn’t play well against the Wolfpack. Florida State hasn’t lost to Miami since 2009, but that streak’s definitely in jeopardy this weekend.
LSU @ #21 Florida - 2:30 PM CST - Gainesville, FL
Here we go. Attitudes will clash more than anything else on Saturday in Gainesville after last year’s fiasco regarding the location of the LSU-Florida matchup. If you remember, Florida wanted to postpone the game due to an impending hurricane, and then LSU accused them of one thing, Florida spat back, and eventually the game was played in Tiger Stadium, where the Gators won 16-10 on a last second goal-line touchdown.
This will be a game we need to pay attention to what with our game coming at LSU next weekend. If the Tigers lose, it probably pushes our meeting to a night contest, since one of the options is still the CBS afternoon game. I’d prefer not to play there at night, but it didn’t seem to affect Troy all that much. We’ll need every single advantage we can get, even with LSU being a bit sub-par compared to the recent past. Expect this game to be gross, defensive, sloppy, and someone will win on a dipsy-doodle trick play somewhere along the way.
NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD
#1 Alabama @ Texas A&M - 6:15 PM CST - College Station, TX
For the first couple of years after they joined the SEC, nobody gave Nick Saban more trouble than Kevin Sumlin and Texas A&M. Lately, that’s not really been an issue. Alabama has beaten the Aggies by double digits each of the past three seasons (including a 59-point drubbing in 2014), and has never really felt threatened. Texas A&M is 4-1 so far, but none of those have been boring. They led UCLA by 31 points before completely collapsing in the opener, then they slept through wins against Nicholls and UL-Lafayette. Once conference play began, it took overtime to beat Arkansas, who’s not very good, and then last weekend was another nailbiter against South Carolina. They’ve got to be running low on fuel.
It’s not a good time to play Alabama. With people thinking about Sumlin’s job status, he needs to show something tomorrow. It won’t happen. Bama looks bored at this point, but that doesn’t mean they’ll misstep in East Texas.
Michigan State @ #7 Michigan - 6:30 PM CST - Ann Arbor, MI
Here are a couple teams that we don’t really know much about, even a few weeks into the season. Michigan’s going to be playing John O’Korn tomorrow, after starting quarterback Wilton Speight has been noted out for a few weeks with an injury, and Michigan State just really doesn’t have enough on tape to give us a good idea of who they are.
The Spartans got dogged by Notre Dame 38-18, with the Irish run game rolling hot in East Lansing, but Michigan’s not quite so dynamic in that regard. The Wolverines have had some trouble getting the rushing attack moving against the better defenses they’ve faced, but the defense is still great under Don Brown. Of course, with this game returning to the Big House for the first time since the 2015 game that ended with that ridiculous blocked punt return for the win, emotions and memories may play into this one a little bit more. Close game at Michigan Stadium, but the ghost of Yost pulls them through to a victory at home.
PIRATES OF THE PALOUSE
#11 Washington State @ Oregon - 7:00 PM CST - Eugene, OR
I don’t want to say we called the Wazzu upset of USC last Friday night, but we totally called it. The Cougars, led by Luke Falk, took out the Trojans and Sam Darnold, and now their next biggest test just got a little easier. Oregon starting quarterback Justin Herbert sustained a broken collarbone, so he’ll be out for a little while, and certainly won’t be in the game tomorrow night.
Washington State’s defense is pretty good related to what they’ve had the past few seasons, and it’s so much fun to watch a team coached by Mike Leach. Without the Ducks’ starter under center, it should be pretty easy for Wazzu to win this one, barring an emotional letdown. They’ve had an extra day to get over that, so I’m inclined to believe that they beat Oregon and move firmly into the top ten. How about that?
