Fic Stats Game
Thank you @fortune-maiden for tagging me! This is going to be fun :D
rules: give us the links to your fic with the most hits, second most kudos, third most comments, fourth most bookmarks, fifth most words, and fic with the fewest words.
(For simplicity's sake, I am choosing to only count completed fics... of which I have 95 in the MDZS/Untamed fandom, wtf?!)
1 - Most Hits - Think Outside the Shell - Yep, I am completely unsurprised that my first Nie Sect Murder Tortoise fic is #1. It seems to have scratched an itch many people had :D For those who haven't heart of/read it, it's a simple gen fic where, during the Wen indoctrination camp's trip to fight the tortoise of slaughter, NHS tames the xuanwu because apparently he already has one at home ;) This began my fun cracky series and will forever hold a special place in my heart.
2 - 2nd Most Kudos - When Fate Opens a Window, Let Us Fly Through It - I check my stats semi-regularly so technically this doesn't surprise me because of that, but it *does* surprise me how well-liked this fic was! It's NieLan, the first of my "Lan Ribbon Marriage" series. The plot? NMJ & LXC are teenagers and in love with each other but too married to their duties to do anything about it. They wake up in the middle of the night to find LXC's ribbon wrapped around both their wrists, and when LQR enters, NMJ finds out this is the first step of the Lan sect's marriage rites! The secret is that NHS & LWJ teamed up to tie them to each other and have them found out by LQR. It's cute and fun, and was a blast to write - and the series is complete with WangXian and SangHui follow-ups :D
3 - 3rd Most Comments - This category is the reason I chose to only include completed fics, because works in progress tend to get a lot of comments in general with people wanting to encourage the author to continue the story. So the answer is therefore... He's No Bully, He's My Friend - I adore this story and it's special to me, a modern day AU where NHS is homeless and comes across a pit bull that he befriends, and the dog turns out to be a cursed JC (It's SangCheng, but the shipping is minimal at the end after JC becomes human again, so if you prefer gen fic, you might enjoy this one). But this story in particular has a reason that it got so many comments - because the wonderful @takonxmz asked to podfic the story, and many people found their way to it through their recording (which is amazing and I totally recommend if you have an hour or so!!! There is art too!!!).
4 - 4th Most Bookmarks - I'm going to choose the list in my stats because those numbers include both public and private bookmarks (we can see how many there are, we just can't see who bookmarked the private ones) - Think Outside the Shell - My only surprise is that this one wasn't higher on the list! But a SangCheng, a SangYao, and (*checks eyesight*) a WangXian fic all came out ahead of it.
5 - 5th Most Words - I'd Rather Share With You - This is the WangSang fic I wrote for the 2 Cakes fest last year! NHS' first year at Gusu and a storm hits, damaging several homes of Lan disciples, who are all assigned visiting disciples' quarters to share - and LWJ is assigned to room with NHS. It's sweet and they're young and soft (and also petty, and definitely don't get along at first) and, yeah, it's a fun fic. (It's a good thing this tag came out now - later this month, I will have a 50k fic coming out that will skew all the stats lol)
Bonus - Fewest Words - Technically, my 3 lowest word counts aren't fics at all - they're the AO3 entries I did to show off my fanart for the RBB fest this year. So the lowest word count of an actual fic is... The Perfect Spiritual Pet - This is just a cute little gen fic where the One Braincell Trio create an array to find NHS the perfect spiritual pet in the hopes of getting NMJ off his case. They don't know what the animal is, but it's cute, lazy, and perfect for NHS (it's a 3-toed sloth).
So, I shall tag... @gekidasa @roseclaw @thebiscuiteternal @eastofakkala and anyone else who'd like to participate!

ep34 (1/2): jeez this is so painful
yeah gonna be real here guys this first half is probably one of my least favorite parts of the show. boring, drawn-out, confusing, unnecessarily complicated, making lwj act all weird and cold, jarring tonal shifts and disrespectful handling of very serious and character-relevant trauma. it's kind of shit
Tumblr media
I skipped the scene where wwx was funning because they made him look so absurd and they turned it into a joke and it always pisses me off, but lwj flipping over the crowd like this was kind of funny at least
Tumblr media
this running joke is also pretty funny
Tumblr media
as a contrast to nhs, I imagine
Tumblr media
THERE HE IS!!!
Tumblr media
I don't like this scene at all, nor do I like the multiple shots back to lwj to make extremely small expressions responding to the info we just learned. like, so what? also his hairpiece is genuinely too big for his head imo
Tumblr media
so this is something. wwx is clearly afradi of dogs, but never comes out and says it. instead, he says they chased after him on the streets and then jc had to give up his dogs, and then he transitions right into remarking bitterly how jl is just like jc (also hates him). not so much a discussion of wwx himself as it is a reflection on how he feels about his relationships right now
Tumblr media
wwx physically grabbing and yanking lwj around is kind of fun but he was so mean to wwx this episode I got so mad! like, he seemed frustrated and annoyed with wwx for being scared and he ignored him earlier in the marketplace and lost track of him and now he's just being very cold and not offering any comfort or understanding. I've never liked or understood why he acts like this here. it's not like this behavior is what he normally does later or what he did right when wwx came back
Tumblr media Tumblr media
HA. yeah this section is super long and boring and confusing but this was funny
Tumblr media
see THIS is more like lwj, wwx tells him to go chase the spy and that he'll meet him later, but lwj is unwilling to leave him until wwx emphasizes I WILL meet you later I promise
Tumblr media
however this is also very stupid because how can nhs outrun lwj??? one of the strongest cultivators in the world??? I guess they do know who it is immediately but if so, why not tell US? this is irritating, the way they come to conclusions silently then don't tell the audience
Tumblr media
I love it when he complains. people characterize wwx as uncomplaining too much but by postres he is DONE
Tumblr media Tumblr media
oh my god is that the same charm? OOF
Tumblr media
this scene is so pretty I love the ground and the lights
Tumblr media
jc saying that he can control jl no matter how old he is 😬😬😬
Tumblr media
goddammit wwx stop agreeing with jc for misogynistic reasons
Tumblr media
oh and this scene is SO stupid. ruins a dramatic and powerful reveal by making his fear of dogs into a stupid joke AGAIN
Tumblr media
something I noticed back in ep33 was how disappointed jc looked after wwx fell. he looks the same here.
fuck, here we go. the infamous inn scene
Tumblr media Tumblr media
their conversation here is really interesting and reveals a lot, but it's just so hard to watch bc wwx is currently being tormented and clearly isn't thinking as clearly as he would be otherwise. you know if the situations were reversed jc would be cursing wwx to take the dog away and would refuse to even have a conversation
Tumblr media
he tries here, for a few seconds, to be cold and detatched. to not even look up as wwx whimpers. but he fails, in the end, he's too angry. throwing that tea cup across the room made me flinch
Tumblr media
he literally killed himself man idk what more you expect him to do
Tumblr media
oh I think this was translated differently elsewhere as 'you're the one who hasn't grown up,' I liked that
Tumblr media
oh this is evil, one of the most evil things he ever does - tell fairy to come closer, terrify wwx into silence and then, what? prove that he, jc, is stronger after all? that he's more adult? maybe just use it as an excuse to lash out and hurt wwx more, feel good about having that control over him, being able to harm him? on the contrary, it's the technique and argument of a child. and a bully, at that
Tumblr media
aw man this flashback where he jumped directly in jyl's arms 🥺
Tumblr media Tumblr media
this is also so cruel! he's clearly having some kind of panic attack, how is he supposed to be held responsible for jc's feelings right now? actually really emblematic of their entire dynamic - jc expecting to be catered to never mind that wwx is literally losing his mind out of fear right now
in the novel he actually called for lwj, but I like the change because I thought it didn't make a lot of sense given that he had only just been freed from gusu and he and lwj were barely on decent terms
whew. continued on part two. FUCK YOU JIANG CHENG

Wei Wuxian wakes up to fur in his face. His eyes open, squinting in the light and the terror that overtakes him is almost paralysing.
A strangled yell escapes him and as he stumbles away from the monster in front of him, his mind is gibbering mess of only one thought and that is, dog!
The white fur twitches and the dog opens its eyes, staring straight at Wei Wuxian.
His husband's name is wrenched out, a half-gasp, half-plea. Then, a full-out scream.
LAN ZHAN, SAVE ME!!!
But his husband doesn't come to his rescue. Wei Wuxian shakes violently, unable to think past the fear that floods him. The dog whines and moves towards him but stops when he flinches, hard. He throws himself backward, desperate to put space between the beast and him.
The dog backs away too, its golden eyes wide and helpless, anxious whines continuously falling from its throat.
Lan Zhan, Lan Zhan, Wei Wuxian continues to whisper, mindlessly.
When the dog hides in one corner of the room, Wei Wuxian takes a chance and leaps for the door.
***
Lan Xichen figures out the curse cast on Lan Wangji.
Wei Wuxian tries to force himself to go to his husband even if his limbs tremble. For every shaky step he takes, Lan Wangji takes two steps back, whining low and miserable.
Lan Sizhui catches Wei Wuxian as he almost falls, pale faced. Lan Wangji involuntarily steps forward to catch him but Wei Wuxian flinches without meaning to.
Wei Wuxian apologises, says sorry, Lan Zhan, I know you won't hurt me, but I can't— I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry—
His voice breaks and Lan Wangji shakes his head vigorously, denying the guilt, wishing he could hold his husband and comfort him.
The curse is easy enough to reverse.
Wei Wuxian throws himself at the human Lan Wangji as soon as he catches sight of him, and this time, Lan Wangji catches him, easily and effortlessly, and holds him close, whispering apologies in Wei Wuxian's hair because he promised never to hurt his husband and yet, he had, without meaning to. And it tears him apart.
***
When Wei Wuxian catches sight of the customary white robes, from the corner of his eye, he jolts, mind flashing back to the last time—white fur, deadly teeth—and when Lan Wangji reaches for him—white, white, white—Wei Wuxian leans back, closing his eyes. A distressed sound escapes him.
Lan Wangji stops wearing white from that day forth.

Fic Finder
~*~
1. Hey Mojo! I hope you had a good New Year! I was wondering if you could help me find a fic. Basically instead of Wen Chao throwing Wei Ying in the Burial Mounds he has him killed and hung from his ribbon in Nightless City. Jiang Cheng and Lan Wangji find him, but Wei Ying is a resentful spirit and ends of possessing Jiang Cheng (with his permission I think) in order to finally get his revenge on Wen Chao. I've been looking everywhere and its like the fic just disappeared. Thank you for your time!
FOUND? Missing Pieces by LixyStrange (T, 10k, WangXian, ghost, Death, Revenge, biggest fear, Dogs, hounds, Gore, Dismemberment, revenge is a dish best served searing hot, Heartbreak, Hurt No Comfort, Bittersweet Ending)

2. Hi.  I'm searching for a fic which may or may not be a part of a series. What I remember is that LQR is teaching WWX and is irritated by him. WWX has also adopted A-Yuan. LQR is teaching because his core has some problem. It is a modern AU. IIRC LQR convinces WWX to write a thesis.  That is all I can remember. Thank you for your time and help.
FOUND!....LQR fic anon here, I found the fic I was looking for it's CSI: Gusu Edition by Stratisphyre (M, 39k, wangxian, lan qiren & wei wuxian, 3 works, series in progress)

3. Hii, id like to ask abt a fic wherein there's a problem with the whole mxy resurrecting wwx thing and because of that the ghost mxy kept on trying to kill wwx so that he can prevent a painful death. And it turns out that Wen Qing is alive and have saved WWX by transferring JC's core to WWX. huhu just cant remember the titleeee.

4. Hi! Hope you're having a lovely day and all is going well in the new year. I haven't really sent an ask (well ever) so I hope I'm not offending you but I've been looking for a fic for ages. It's set post canon and I remember a major plot point was that wei ying had a collection of (very sad!) letters he kept in a box addressed to lan zhan that he never sent. The box I believe was cursed, and I think ghosts were following him around, or at least lingering in the places he had frequented. Juniors were there as well, and Sizhui reads the letters which causes a sort of blow up, where he asks that if Wei Ying feels so awful on his own why couldnt he come to live with his family (this outburst and intrusion into his privacy I think is explored in a second part of a series?)  If you can help I would be super grateful!!!

7. There are two fics I am looking for. (7a) Modern au where Wwx paints a picture of lwj's hand and they date about it, then take off onto an adventure when Lqr tears it into pieces. 10. hi mojo, thanks for your blog! I found some good fics thanks to you and so many reminders of great fics to re-read! If you have time, I'm looking for a WX fic that I read some time ago on AO3. Somebody (JC?) erased WWX from existence. The sunshot campaign happens, does not go well. Then WWX is summoned back, and teams up with NHS to fix the war. I think at some point JYL and babyJL are saved by WWX from being held hostage by the Wens. LWJ has missed WWX and joins the team. Hope you can find it! ~ @vasterthanempires

12.  Hiii! So glad you're back, hoping you have an incredible new year full of health and happiness! I was wondering if you or anyone might recognise this fic? It's a Canon AU, where Jiang Yanli and JGY become friends and he gets to hold Jin Ling, and I'm pretty sure it's a nobody-you-care-about-dies fic. I know there's a scene where JGY thinks about how powerful WWX is, but he knows WWX doesnt trust him so he plans to stick close to Yanli as like a "If i die, she'll be sad, so Wei Wuxian will protect me as long as I don't hurt anyone he cares about" deal. It's wangxian but i dont think the romance was the focus, more a bamf!WWX. Unfortunately thats all i can remember so any help would be really appreciated! ~ @warriorwerewolfheart

13.   Hello, I don't really remember much from the fic other than its a wangxian romance and I remember a scene when the two are in the library (as teens) and wwx asked lwj to read to him. The chapter (or maybe the whole fic) was from lwj's pov as he thought something along the lines of "nobody liked his voice and the other kids wouldn't listen when he read in class." Thank youuuu, if you can find it or just for looking anyway.

14.   I’m looking for this fix where Mo xuanyu was the Yiling Patriachs disciple and they were called to help the sects take care of the Wens. I don’t remember. Whole lot it was a long fic the main ship was wangxian

15.   Hello! I’m going in circles trying to find something I am very sure I read and did not imagine..Wangxian as members of a mountaineering club. A misunderstanding happens, one gets jealous and rushes out into the snow. It ends with Wei Ying being picked up on the road and rescued by Lan Xichen and Lan Qiren, and wangxian reunites. Does that sound remotely familiar or did my brain somehow combined a few fics into one…

16.   Hi! I am looking for a specific fic. It takes place during the cloud recess study arc. All I can really remember is that Wei Ying and Lan Zhan start meditating together to merge their spiritual energy and eventually they are able to actually merge together into one being. I do remember that they merged together during the Wen attack and Wei Ying used talismans on both Jin Zixuan an Lan Qiren. I hope I'm not combining fics together LOL. Thank you!

19.   Hi! I’m new to your blog (it’s been a god send by the way I’ve been stuck rereading my favorites) but I was hoping you could help me find a fic I forgot to bookmark? Basically it’s a pseudo time travel fix it but Adult LWG goes to the past meeting up with young WWX while young LWJ goes to the future meeting up with Adult WWX. Then the pairings switch places, then both pairings end up in future where they give advice and do the obligatory teasing! However it’s a bit different in the young Wangxian universe is a divergent universe. Something to do with the Nie family tree? I really hope you can find it! Thank you so much for your help and all your wonderful fic recs!

Jiang Wanyin; Love=Convenience
.........................sometimes, I look at JC’s resentment and I’m scared. Not scared of him per se but rather, scared of what I discovered.
The thing about love is that it’s never easy. Love, whether we thrive in it or are wary of it, is capable of turning toxic. I mean srsly, just look at the Jiang family (*koff* Madam Ew *koff*).
And one thing that I’ve come to realize about how JC views love? To him, it’s a convenience. He treats love like a convenience. WWX once loved him like a brother and look at how that ended. YZY claimed to love him too and she’s not getting best mom of the year award in a million lifetimes.
And even JYL, perhaps the one positive love JC had in his life was eventually turned into a convenience. Because if JC truly loved her, if he truly respected and wished to honor her memory, he wouldn’t have used his love for her as an excuse to hate WWX.
When you use someone’s love as an excuse to hurt and torture innocent ppl simply on the basis that they remind you of someone you're blaming, a love that’s meant to be pure and cherished, aren’t you tainting it in the worst way possible? Especially if it’s love towards a person like JYL, who for all her mediocracy, would definitely not approve of all the screwed up shit JC committed for the past 13 years.
It made me realize how so many ppl can end up repeating the same thing, perhaps without even knowing it. It made myself terrified of loving someone for fear that if I were to lose them, I would become just as bitter & miserable as JC.
JC also viewed love as a convenience in the sense that he believes it should just be handed to him. Like how there should be toilet paper available in all restrooms. He expects it to be handed to him when he himself makes no effort to give it.
He saw WWX’s brotherly love for him as a convenience too; for it conveniently granted him a guard dog/powerhouse during the SSC and a scapegoat post-SSC. When JFM seemingly didn't give him his 'love', he saw it as him being derived of a convenience he's owed. He used it as a convenient excuse to resent WWX more and to believe his toxic mother's bs accusations.
Sometimes, I wonder if he also sees JL’s familial love as a convenience for he conveniently has some remnant of his dead sister within easy reach & no matter how shitty he is, he won’t leave him bcz they’re family and they ‘love’ each other.
Love IS NOT A CONVENIENCE. If you view love as a ‘convenience’ then forget finding true love bcz at the end of the day, the love you give is always conditional and rlly, who wants to put up with that if they can avoid it? WWX certainly burned that bridge and never looked back once he stepped onto the narrow-planked one with LWJ, a man who loves him unconditionally.
Come to think of it, if JC had this same mindset while searching for a partner, it’s no wonder he was blacklisted. It’s no wonder at the end of the novel, he’s even more bitter and lonelier. It’s no wonder there’s a possibility that even if the core thrumming in him is strong enough to reach immortality, he’s most likely cursed to live a miserable lonely life without someone by his side.
If you wanna argue along the lines of arranged marriages then fine; but when it comes to familial love, it is not a convenience. Period.
JC stans who hc him loving his nephew, his brother, his disciples or whatever- pls just don’t clown my post.

Lan zhan was trasformed into a dog during a nighthunt and now wwx has to find a solution.
He's distraugh, terrorized, but that's Lan zhan, his husband, the love of his life, he would never hurt him, but even knowing all that his mind is still irrationally screaming at him to run, that it's not safe.
And he feels stupid, his husband is the one cursed, and he can't comfort him, he's so selfish for him to need comfort right now.
Other people don't understand this, they'd ask him why is he being so difficult, why couldn't he try to behave normally.
Just people realising how hard Is for him and not using It as a comic relief would be awesome.
Maybe an external pov? Whatever you'll do will be awesome anyway <3
sequel to this fic (LWJ turned into a puppy)
“Oh, fuck off,” Jiang Cheng shouted, and Wei Wuxian, sitting on his bed and still shaking, lifted his head like a dog that just caught an enticing scent.
Probably not the best metaphor to use at the moment. Or at all, really.
Either way, Jiang Cheng was angry at someone, and that was usually a pretty good distraction from, well, just about anything. At least, it had been when they were younger, but that was because Jiang Cheng being angry was usually the prelude to Jiang Cheng doing something stupid which was, in turn, the prelude for a whole bunch of trouble.
Wei Wuxian could use some trouble to distract himself with.
Though – now that he thought about it, he couldn’t quite figure out why Jiang Cheng was doing here, in the Cloud Recesses, much less why he was angry.
He inched towards to the door to try to hear the voices, that had dropped down to a murmur.
“It’s none of your fucking business, that’s what it is,” Jiang Cheng was saying, very rudely. “How long did Hanguang-jun manage without him? He’s not dead or even injured. Temporarily inconvenienced at best.”
Wei Wuxian flinched.
Right.
They were talking about – that.
It wasn’t Lan Wangji’s fault that the water had turned him into a dog. It wasn’t even his fault for getting into it at all; he’d been against it entirely, with Wei Wuxian pushing to try it out – he’d only been indulgent as he always was, loving and cherishing Wei Wuxian too much. If anything, it could be argued that it served Wei Wuxian right for what had come out of there.
(Large and covered in shaggy fur, with wickedly large teeth to bite and strong legs to give chase, pointed snout and ears to better uncover any place he might hide -)
He’d fled, of course. Right back to the jingshi, and as he’d expected Lan Wangji had been considerate enough not to follow him – except the effects of the pool apparently took some time to wear off, and it might be days before…
He’d promised Lan Wangji every day. He hadn’t meant to break his word so quickly.
But he just couldn’t.
Obviously that was what was being discussed outside: how Wei Wuxian ought to be comforting his husband, who’d had his very humanity snatched away from him, rather than huddling inside their shared home; how it was ridiculous for him to be afraid when it wasn’t even a real dog, it was Lan Wangji, who would never harm him.
How he was just being stupid –
“It’s not stupid!” Jiang Cheng bellowed, almost as if he’d heard Wei Wuxian’s thoughts. “Are you completely brainless? Has Teacher Lan decided to give up on teaching anything useful? It doesn’t have to make sense! Fear doesn’t make sense!”
“But –” Some very brave and very unfortunate person decided to try to speak. “To have courage is to overcome your fears –”
“You’re a grown man, what do you know?” Jiang Cheng sneered. “It’s easy to speak of courage when you’re tall and strong, and hard when you’re small and weak – the injuries of childhood are the deepest and most lasting, just as memories are the most visceral when they are from the days when you didn’t know how to hold yourself separate. Do you really think the Yiling Patriarch is a coward? Do you not remember what he did for you, for all of you, at the Burial Mounds, using his own life to draw away the threat?”
Silence.
“So what if he’s afraid of dogs?” Jiang Cheng continued. “That’s his business, not yours!”
A familiar crackle – Zidian being unfurled.
“Anyone who wants to make something of it can come consult with me first!”
Footsteps, retreating rapidly, and then a very familiar tread, heading his way – Wei Wuxian pulled away from the door just moments before Jiang Cheng yanked it open, face red with irritation.
“The people here are stupid,” he told Wei Wuxian without any greeting. “I don’t know how you put up with it.”
“Habit,” Wei Wuxian said on automatic, and then pasted on a grin, though judging from Jiang Cheng’s expression he wasn’t doing a good job of it. “Anyway, aren’t you being hypocritical? You were the one who used Fairy against me…”
“That was because I was trying to torture you!” Jiang Cheng exclaimed, as if that was somehow a defense. “I wasn’t disrespecting you over it!”
…oddly enough, that did make Wei Wuxian feel better.
“Why are you here, anyway?” he asked, and Jiang Cheng shot him a look as if he was stupid. “For me?”
“Idiot,” Jiang Cheng grumbled. “Of course I’m here for you. Didn’t I say I’d protect you from them?”
He’d been very small at the time. Wei Wuxian hadn’t thought he’d remembered.
“Not that you care. I ought to have adopted a dozen dogs, it would’ve served you right…”
Jiang Cheng hadn’t adopted a single dog in the entire time Wei Wuxian had been dead. Even Fairy, Jin Ling’s beloved husky, had been a gift from Jin Guangyao, not Jiang Cheng.
Wei Wuxian abruptly felt warm.
“You’re not here to bully me into seeing Lan Zhan, are you?” he asked.
“Of course not! Like I want to spend any more time with that ice block than I need to!”
“Xichen-da-ge says he’s very adorable right now. All fuzzy pointy ears and big waving tail,” Wei Wuxian said, because he might be mortally afraid of dogs but tormenting his shidi was always the number one priority. “Like a poof ball, he says. And soft!”
Jiang Cheng visibly wavered.
“Shut up,” he said.
“You’d probably try to stick your face into his belly –”
“Hanguang-jun? Never! Not even if he was the softest, fluffiest, warmest, cutest…what was I saying?”
Wei Wuxian started giggling uncontrollably.
Yes, he thought happily: Jiang Cheng’s trouble really was the best sort of distraction.

《Without Envy》- concubine/sleeper agent!wwx & prince!lwj
[story board 1] [story board 2]   [story board 3]  [story board 4]
long post: story board 5 →
Lan Wangji, as it turned, was a true gentleman. This was problematic for Wei Wuxian, who was tasked with getting close to him, because Hanguang-wang’s upstanding morals being rather unimpeachable rendered Wei Wuxian’s initial seduction efforts entirely unsuccessful.
Lan Wangji straight up ignored him. Whenever he came to visit Jiang Yanli it was always to speak with her and not Wei Wuxian. It was like Wei Wuxian, or A-Xian as he was known, did not exist to the prince. Whenever Wei Wuxian tried to “get close” to him, aka, making himself available to serve tea, meals and such, Lan Wangji would always dismiss him, or tell him to wait outside so Lan Wangji and Jiang Yanli could dine together alone. Needless to say, Wei Wuxian was getting increasingly frustrated. Entirely unbeknownst to Wei Wuxian however was the fact that Lan Wangji had noticed him from the start and was just trying to stop himself from doing something inappropriate. Truth is, Lan Wangji first saw Wei Wuxian at Jiang-fu during one of Lan Wangji’s visits to finalize the marriage between himself and Jiang Yanli.
It was the dogs’ barking that got Lan Wangji’s attention first. That, and a young man’s agitated cursing.
“Fuck - ow! Princess that was not nice! I’m going to turn you into barbeque if you don’t cut this shi - Ow! Jasmine, give it here!”
Lan Wangji’s personal guards Guo Ai and Sun Ting made to investigate the source of the ruckus and to tell off whoever dared to be so impertinent and disrespectful in a marquis’s manor, but Lan Wangji stopped them with a subtle gesture.
Slowly, he approached the round archway looking into the garden and saw by the shrubs a handsome young man cradling a fuzzy tiny thing while trying his darnedest to fend off two relentless hounds. “Shoo, shoo, go bother your master!”
But the dogs wanted to play. Their bushy tails wagged happily.
Eventually, the young man tired of the over enthusiastic canines, picked up a stick off the ground, and tossed it far over the garden walls. The dogs took off running, and he and the little creature he protected were allowed a moment’s peace.
“Little tutu, it’s okay, the mean dogs are gone now. Don’t be afraid.”
It was only then that Lan Wangji saw that the furry round thing was a small bunny, probably driven from its burrow by the aforementioned hounds that belonged to Jiang-xiao-gongzi. He watched, slightly transfixed, as the young man lifted the bunny and gently booped its nose against his own, his comely face scrunching up adorably in the process.
So when Wei Wuxian arrived at the prince’s estate with Jiang Yanli, Lan Wangji cursed his luck. He had no intentions of becoming attracted or attached to anyone in his harem. His marriages were political games. Everything he did in his harem was calculated. The last thing he needed was for the Jins to think they could sink their claws into him. So he kept company with all his concubines equally, just to maintain the balance. Lan Wangji did not want Jin Ziyan to be the only man in his harem, which was why when Qin Su offered him Mo Xuanyu, he did not refuse. It was fortunate that Mo Xuanyu himself seemed eager to serve too, so Lan Wangji did not have to grapple with ethics there.  He was doing this for his country; everyone knew this. As long as he kept to his duties and divided his attentions equally, there would be trouble in his harem. Except...Lan Wangji wanted to see ‘A-Xian’ again. The more he wanted, the more he made himself keep his distance. He recognized the power dynamic that existed between this servant and himself, and that if he were to ask, A-xian was not really in a position to refuse. Besides, Jiang Yanli made no indications that she wanted her A-Xian to serve Lan Wangji. In fact, she seemed quite protective of him, always looking out for him wherever she could. She practically treated him like a little brother than a servant. As such, Lan Wangji was happy with the way things were. He could live with never knowing A-Xian more intimately. In fact, he did not want A-Xian to be ordered to serve him, or find out that A-Xian was just like every other man and woman in his harem, there to curry favours with him. It would be a shame if he turned out to be just another flower in the garden, another player in this game they played.
Of course Wei Wuxian read this whole situation as: that little bastard Lan Wangji doesn’t like me. Xue Yang was charged with being Wei Wuxian’s correspondence between Gusu and Qishan but ended up just being the guy Wei Wuxian complained to.  —“Is this Hanguang-wang truly a paragon of virtues???” Wei Wuxian raged. “Aren’t princes supposed to be lechers? Wen Chao certainly is a sleeze. Wen Xu could be too for all we know. I’m young, fit, attractive and available. I know he likes men so why not me? He sleeps with Mo Xuanyu all the time apparently …Is Mo Xuanyu more attractive than me?!” Xue Yang: >_> God I miss murders.
Wei Wuxian’s “opportunity” came when Jiang Yanli fell mysteriously ill about three months after she married Lan Wangji. When the physicians were left scratching their heads, Wei Wuxian quickly took the matter into his own hands. He needed Jiang Yanli alive; if she died before he made an impression on Lan Wangji, he could be sent away back to Jiang-fu and threaten his entire operation. What’s more, Jiang Yanli had been extremely kind to him in the last two years since he arrived at Gusu. She truly was the perfect lady; he would hate to see her suffer.  Through some crafty investigations, Wei Wuxian discovered that the cause of Jiang Yanli’s illness was a slow poison being laced into her food by Jin Ziyan’s orders. The motive of his actions were obvious enough; ever since Jiang Yanli married in, Lan Wangji seemed to be showing her extra favour, favours which he never distributed unevenly prior to her entering his household. Jin Ziyan did not want Jiang Yanli as a competition. She was a marquess’s dichu daughter, much higher in rank than either Qin Su or Luo Qingyang, and therefore posed serious threat to becoming Lan Wangji’s legal spouse. In a way, she was Jin Ziyan’s biggest competitor, and he couldn’t have that. What Jin Ziyan didn’t know was that Lan Wangji visited Jiang Yanli so much because he wanted to catch glimpses of Wei Wuxian, even though he dismissed Wei Wuxian from the room every time he saw him (the man was clearly a masochist). Wei Wuxian managed to sniff out the poison before it could cause lasting damages, but the effect of it was going on for long enough that Jiang Yanli still had an early term miscarriage before she even knew she was pregnant. Wei Wuxian, incensed by Jiang Yanli’s suffering, was ready to expose Jin Ziyan, but was ordered not to by Wen Zhuliu. ‘We still need Jin Ziyan’ was his reasoning. Still, Wei Wuxian managed to tip off the investigators such that they detected and put an end to the poisoning, but the culprit was ultimately never caught. As this played out, Wei Wuxian realized that now was his chance to get close to Lan Wangji. With Jiang Yanli recuperating...surely the Jiang family would want someone else of their clan to serve Lan Wangji in her place, someone who could keep Lan Wangji’s attention but would not replace Jiang Yanli’s place in the harem. It did not take much to lead Yu Ziyuan to the same conclusion. To ensure that he would have ample time with Lan Wangji, Wei Wuxian secretly slipped a special sedative into Jiang Yanli’s food and drink to mimic the symptoms of a slow recovery. The sedative was one of Qishan’s secret formulations and could not be detected by Gusu’s finest doctors. But Jiang Yanli, bless her heart, did not want the boy who she’d come to see as a little brother to be used like an object. "A-niang, I don't want to force A-Xian to do things he doesn't want to. I will get better, dianxia will not abandon me." — Yu Ziyuan tsked, "Silly girl, serving Lan Wangji in your stead is his entire purpose for coming with you. Every family must plan for something like this; someone to hold onto Lan Wangji's interest while you're indisposed. Men are fickle, child. You need time to recover and someone will need to remind Hanguang-wang that you still matter when you’re ready again. We cannot let him forget you. Think of what this would mean for our clan." Much to Yu Ziyuan’s delight, Lan Wangji came to check on Jiang Yanli while she was visiting, and Madam Yu had no qualms making hints that it would be the Jiang family’s honour if Hanguang-wang allowed ‘A-Xian’ to serve him while Yanli recovered. Wei Wuxian did not protest. Why would he? This was his orchestration after all, but when he dared raise his gaze from the floor to look at Lan Wangji, he detected a hint of something in Lan Wangji’s face…something like disappointment. Wei Wuxian relayed this to Xue Yang and the other evil gremlin sucked on a candied apricot and said with a roll of his eyes: —“You’re so dense, shixiong, tsk. Men like Lan Wangji could have any man or woman he wants. If you go along with Madam Yu’s orders, you’ll just to be like everyone else, another ambitious servant trying to socially advance. He’ll fuck you and forget you within a blink of an eye.” — Wei Wuxian sipped his liquor and grimaced. “Fine, what do you suggest I do then? — Xue Yang smirked, “Oh, haven’t you heard? Men like roses with thorns. When you’re brought to him tonight, don’t play along. Don’t humour him. Refuse him.” — Wei Wuxian: >_> Is this how you got those Daoist priests in bed with you? — Xue Yang smirked shamelessly, “Worked, innit?”
Listen, Lan Wangji was fully prepared to have some emotionless sex with Wei Wuxian okay? Boy was prepared to just go through the motions. He was disappointed to know that A-Xian turned out to be no better than any other servant in his harem: eager to climb his bed.
Being a concubine was stupid work, Wei Wuxian realized belatedly. After dinner, Jiang Yanli bid him goodbye with worried eyes as the momos and gugus of Hanguang-fu dragged him away to be bathed and prepped for the prince’s enjoyment later that night. (gugu, momo - older female servants)
Wei Wuxian was not a dirty person - sure, he worked hard, but he bathed regularly - they did not have to scrub that roughly. As they practically scrapped off a layer of skin, the momos rattled on and on about how he should “conduct” himself in the presence of dianxia and how he should position himself to best please him.
What the actual fuck. Wei Wuxian resisted the urge to pull a face. Did the ladies get the same banal talk? How fucking boring was the sex around here? Wei Wuxian wasn’t born yesterday alright? He knew how to fuck.  ...Well fine, he didn’t, but he and Xue Yang had sucked each other off once or twice, so that should count for something.
Once the attendants were satisfied with the state of him - hair brushed, skin cleaned and lotioned, callouses removed - they rolled him in a large full-body sized blanket, placed him in a sedan and ordered the servants to carry him to Lan Wangji’s chamber.
Wei Wuxian tried not to make an exasperated grimace when the servants literally picked him up like a log and deposited him on the prince’s large bed.
Fucking...seriously?
He did not remember this bullshit when zhangjie married in...but then again Jiang Yanli did marry in. There was a ceremony and everything. Lan Wangji was very respectful that night, bowing to her before lifting her veil as a gentleman ought to. So what the fuck is this barbaric treatment? Just as he pondered on these questions, the tulle canopy parted, and Lan Wangji’s handsome face and broad chest came into view. Undressed to his inner most layer of robes and his ink black hair let loose, he looked very much like a man ready to ravish his new concubine, but somehow, Wei Wuxian could not detect a trace of interest on that jade-like face.
Despite knowing this was all an act, just a means to an end, Wei Wuxian shivered when Lan Wangji reached for the edge of the blanket that encased him.
He pulled the blankets closer, shrinking deeper inside.
“Don’t be afraid,” said Lan Wangji. “I won’t hurt you.”
Time to act, Wei Wuxian. Give it your best shot.
“I’m not afraid.”  “Then why do you hide?”  Wei Wuxian waited a meaningful second before meeting Lan Wangji’s gaze dead on and said, “Because I don’t want to.”  Nonplussed, Lan Wangji raised an elegant eye brow in return. “Oh? Is that so? Or are those just words? Perhaps you've confused what kind of place a harem is. If you do not want to, why are you here?”
Is my act not convincing enough or is this stupid asshole so confident in his attractiveness that he thinks everyone must automatically want to fuck him? Slightly ticked off now, Wei Wuxian sat up, still holding the blanket to his chest and retorted hotly, “I am not confused, dianxia. Perhaps you are unable to comprehend the idea that someone as lowly as a servant would refuse when given the opportunity to ascend in rank, but nevertheless, that doesn’t change my position. I don't want to. I am here because Lianfang-jun appointed me; there was hardly any room in that decision for me to argue. If you are determined to have me, I will not resist, because I understand my place. But I am a person, not a thing or a broodmare for you breed. I have some dignity left, and at the very least, before you...before you hold me down and fuck me, I want you to know."
Wei Wuxian half wondered if his act had gone a little overboard. The expletives maybe were just a tad too dramatic, but then again...   ...seeing how Lan Wangji's entire stance shifted, maybe not.
Lan Wangji withdrew his hand. He had mistaken Wei Wuxian’s initial unwillingness as coquettish posturing, but the heat in those dark, bright eyes could not be faked.
“Those words could get you into a lot of trouble when spoken to the wrong person. Have the momos not taught you the rules?”
Wei Wuxian squared his shoulders. “They have, but I place trust in Hanguang-wang’s reputation, that you are a true gentleman and would not force me against my will.” Then, just as he practiced, Wei Wuxian lowered his eyes. “I am a servant, your servant, and I know it is my duty to serve you in any way you command me, but I -...please find other use of me, dianxia, but not this.”
He startled a little when a warm hand found purchase under his chin and lifted up his face. Lan Wangji inspected him wordlessly with those cold, sharp eyes, searching for lies, for pretense. Wei Wuxian held his breath, praying he won’t be found out, but eventually, when the prince and his calculation deemed him good enough, he let go.
“Very well.”
Lan Wangji fetched a pair of clean inner robes and trousers from the wardrobe and handed them to Wei Wuxian. “Get dressed and move over.” Without waiting for Wei Wuxian to respond, he sat himself down on the edge of the bed and began to remove his socks and shoes.
Wei Wuxian moved quickly, shrugging on the robes and tied it in place before shoving the trousers under the covers to try and pulling them up his legs. “You’re...you’re not leaving?”
Lan Wangji glared at him over his shoulder. “This is my room, my bed. Why should I leave?”
Right. Right.
“But you’re not...sending me away?”
Lan Wangji frowned as though questioning his intelligence. “Would you like me to send you away? I should think that would reflect badly on you and your mistress.”   That did give Wei Wuxian pause. “Uh, well –”   “Your declining to be my bedfellow does not impede my fulfilling my side of the arrangement. You will leave in the morning, and the others will think that I found you pleasing enough to keep you the whole night. That should give Jiang-fu’ren and the Yunmeng Jiang clan sufficient face."   “I could sleep on the floor.”
“Do you want to sleep on the floor?” Lan Wangji swung his legs onto the bed and arranged the blankets to his liking. “The doors are never locked. Servants and sentinels must be allowed in to check on me during the night for security purposes. It would not bode well if they found you lying on the floor.”
Right, yeah that would defeat the whole purpose.
“Oh.”
Lan Wangji lay down and crossed his hands over his chest. “Lie down, sleep. I have morning court assembly, and I’m tired. If you’re going to stay, don’t be a disturbance.”
Feeling like he’d lost all semblance of control in this situation, Wei Wuxian awkwardly laid himself down beside Lan Wangji. The bed was big enough for the two of them that there was space in between even when both of them lay flat on their backs.
Lan Wangji lifted up just a second to blow out the bedside candle, and then there was total darkness.
Wasn’t I suppose to seduce him? What the fuck is this? Okay...maybe I have no idea how to seduce him...maybe I have no idea how to do anything that’s not straight up strangling him in his sleep.
Wei Wuxian could feel his heart thudding in his chest, panic coiling tighter and tighter. He almost wished Lan Wangji had ignored his protest and took him, because then it’d be straight forward. As it were, he had no idea how to proceed now.
Just as Wei Wuxian was being slowly consumed by his maelstrom of thoughts, Lan Wangi suddenly spoke into the dark.
"I am not a heartless bastard, you should know."
Huh?
"I never implied that."
“You did.” Lan Wangji gave a little shake of his head. “I do not want this anymore than the others in the harem. You said I treat my women like broodmares, but perhaps you have not considered that Gusu treats me like a stallion."   Wei Wuxian was momentarily speechless.    “Your mistress is very kind and gentle. I am sorry that the child in her belly was lost; I know she very much wanted to be a mother. I see that you are very protective of her, so you should know, I would never hurt her.  Even if she were to never recover her strength, I would not let harm come to her.”   Those words, softly spoken, tugged at Wei Wuxian’s conscience, if not his heartstrings. “Dianxia -”   “Sleep. Good night.”
The next morning Wei Wuxian woke up to knocking on the door. The sun was already high in the sky and the bed was empty of Lan Wangji’s presence.  A group of maids entered carrying a basin of water, towels and clean clothes. Wei Wuxian, dazed, asked, "Where's danxia?" One of the maid giggled. "Dianxia left at dawn to attend morning assembly at the palace. You must not know; he wakes up very early. He said not to wake you, and to let you sleep. He said," The others giggled with her. “He said that you've had a long night."
To the great surprise of everyone, Lan Wangji did not elevate Jiang Yanli’s servant A-Xian to concubine status after the ‘long night’ they had together. Instead he ordered A-Xian to be transferred to his court to be his close-quarter attendant, to serve him in his every day tasks.  Wei Wuxian did not exactly understand why Lan Wangji would make this particularly decision, but he did not complain. After all this was exactly what he wanted, to be close to Lan Wangji and earn his trust.  Lan Wangji, on the other hand, was content to have Wei Wuxian close by, secure in the knowledge ‘A-Xian’ did not wish to spread his legs to socially advance. Perhaps, if he dared to hope, he could finally have someone to speak to in this lonely manor full of people who only saw the crown hanging above his head.
Xue Yang was of the opinion that this was all going to end badly. He was right.

Within the 13 years since WWX's death, JC begun to have wet dreams of him. As the days go by, the dreams escalate instead of stopping. It was then JC had realized he had fallen in love with WWX. WWX returns and chooses to be with LWJ over him, unaware of the fact that JC is in love with him.
It's up to you if you want this prompt to have a happy or sad ending
Unfortunately, I’m not feeling a happy ending So sad ending! Or rather, bittersweet ending!
Also, due to the nature of this prompt it’s a little NSFW at the beginning, so be warned!!
_____________
Despite Jiang Cheng’s status as a very much single man, it is not like he doesn’t have desires. He very much took care of any arousal even he had been a little to exhausted and distracted to pay attention these days.
Tonight was one such night he had all to himself so he decided to take himself in hand and use his imagination to try and get himself off. Normally, he would imagine a woman with not quite a defined face doing the things he saw in spring books but tonight.....was different somehow.
The scene started off normally enough but as he was nearing his climax, Wei Wuxian’s face turned up for some reason, calling his name and the next thing he knew, Jiang Cheng had spilled over his fist.
His exhausted mind had a moment to think, What the fuck? before he promptly passed out. Contrary to what he might think though, the erotic image of Wei Wuxian did not disappear from his mind.
He couldn’t the amount of times Wei Wuxian appeared in his dreams and he couldn’t help but fantasize about fucking him. More than once, Jiang Cheng had dreamed of marching to the Burial Mounds and taking Wei Wuxian home, protests be damned and screwing him into his bed until he protests no more. Sometimes, Jiang Cheng would have sweet, domestic dreams of Wei Wuxian helping him run the sect, perhaps finding a talisman to allow him to get pregnant, taking care of their children and of course, sex.
Weeks passed by in a similar fashion and Jiang Cheng takes a moment to think about why he’s having these thoughts now. The he comes to the realization that he’s in love with Wei Wuxian. That he loved him, was jealous of him paying attention others than him and caring more for others that weren’t him. But Wei Wuxian had only loved Jiang Cheng as a brother so Jiang Cheng felt like he had no choice but to love him as a brother as well.
But now.....Wei Wuxian was gone and those suppressed feelings started releasing from him like a damn, haunting him in his dreams.
.............
The dreams progressed for years on end until Jiang Cheng had a thought one day: Next time I find him.......I won’t ever let him go again.
In his mind, he cooked up a fantasy that he’ll take Wei Wuxian back with him when he returns - because he will return. Wei Wuxian will always find a way - and Wei Wuxian will be safe and happy with him.
..............................
The reality is a stark difference thirteen years later as Jiang Cheng watches who he knows is Wei Wuxian get taken away by Lan Wangji. And how dare Lan Wangji do that?! Wei Wuxian is his!
His next chance to bring Wei Wuxian back home comes soon. When he sees Wei Wuxian help out Jin Ling, their nephew, and take the curse onto his own body, Jiang Cheng knows he needs to help solve that curse. But first, he needs to capture Wei Wuxian.
When he succeeds in this, he’s a little offput by the fear and apprehension in Wei Wuxian’s gaze.
I just have to explain my intentions. Jiang Cheng thinks. But Wei Wuxian doesn’t seem to understand Jiang Cheng as he did before and that makes Jiang Cheng angry at that. His fantasies never prepared him for this possibility!
He’s at a loss as to what to do until Jin Ling says he saw Wen Ning. If I bring Wen Ning to Wei Wuxian, maybe he’ll understand that I don’t mean him harm? With this in mind and ignoring his anger at Wen Ning’s involvement in Jin Zixuan’s death, he goes out to look for Wen Ning, only find no one.
Jin Ling tricked him!
Jiang Cheng rushes back to the inn, only to find Wei Wuxian gone.
.................................
He doesn’t see Wei Wuxian again despite his best efforts. Not until the Discussion Conference at Koi Tower. But there’s no chance to take Wei Wuxian with him and Jiang Cheng is helpless but to watch Jin Ling stab Wei Wuxian through.
He wants to rush over and take Wei Wuxian with him but Lan Wangji has already whisked him away. Jiang Cheng curses his luck.
.
.
.
The next time he sees Wei Wuxian, it’s at Burial Mounds and Jiang Cheng watches the resigned sadness in Wei Wuxian’s eyes as Jiang Cheng stands with the others. he wants to scream out differently. That no! He’s different now! But the words are stuck in his throat.
....
Truths are revealed and Jiang Cheng watches Wei Wuxian sacrifice himself for the sake of others who are unworthy of that. They return to Lotus Pier after that and as much as Jiang Cheng is happy to see him there, Wei Wuxian sticks to Lan Wangji’s side, much to his annoyance.
More truths and lies are set down but Jiang Cheng’s attention is on Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji who wander the market and explore all the trees. Jiang Cheng seethes with envy at Wei Wuxian’s soft expression.
Then. Then they happen upon one specific tree. The one which caused Jiang Cheng to promise to protect Wei Wuxian from all dogs. He watches Wei Wuxian fall and wants to catch him.
But Lan Wangji does it instead, embracing Wei Wuxian tightly.
And. Jiang Cheng sees the softness on Lan Wangji’s face and thinks: Oh. Lan Wangji is in love with Wei Wuxian.
The two of them go to the ancestral hall next and Jiang Cheng sees them bow, sees the love on Wei Wuxian’s face and just. snaps.
Everything is blur until Wen Ning appears, confessing the truth of his core. And Jiang Cheng feels like crying. Because Wei Wuxian had loved him all this time and he.....he threw it all away.
....................................
Later.......much later, Jiang Cheng watches Wei Wuxian leaving the Guanyin temple with Lan Wangji, their hands clasped tightly together. And he hopes that Lan Wangji will make Wei Wuxian happy.
The way Jiang Cheng had never done.

Hmm, not too sure if this is a good way to end it, but oh well! Hope you enjoyed it!

So back in May I said I would finish the April prompts in June, because I naively assumed that I would have time. Now it is June and I DON'T HAVE ANY GODDAMN TIME. So in the end I'm not doing them at all, but I will post the outlines because I have them so I might as well. And if sometime in the distant future I have time and feel like it, I might write some of them.
April 21:
Tumblr media
(Set post-canon)
Jiang Cheng is wandering through the forest because he’s totally not stalking his ex-brother. Who is on a night hunt with his husband, who Jiang Cheng hates, because he’s trash. He stumbles upon a sad/injured dog that is very cute. And pets it. Then Wei Ying shows up.
So wwx and lwj got hit by a curse that should’ve turned lwj into wwx’s worst fear. And dogs aren’t his worst fear. His worst fear would be like. Abandonment. Or something. But the curse isn’t all-powerful. The curse is limited, and how do you just *turn* lwj into abandonment. No, this curse turns lwj into a dog.
Cut to Jiang Cheng dumping lwj off in the CR like “lxc get over here send me a letter when he’s better I’m taking wwx to LP” and suddenly wwx wants to try getting over his fear of dogs. Of course jc is offended!™ that’s he’s trying now and not back then when jc had dogs! (Although back then wwx was a smol nine year old and now he’s a grown adult but WHATEVER. Jc is sTILL OFFENDED). So he’s like "FINE. But it’s happening in LP bc wwx feels safer there."
Cue montage of wwx trying to be comfortable with dog!lwj and failing miserably. And lwj looking even sadder and more miserable each time wwx runs away screaming. jc is dealing with the fact that he somehow understands lwj better than wwx does right now because wwx interprets everything a dog does as a sign of aggression while jc is like “no he’s sad. He’s obviously sad. He’s wagging his tail because he’s excited. That’s what dogs do. You’re so stupid.” Like the moment wwx tentatively pets him and lwj who doesn’t have control over himself in dog form, starts wagging his tail, and then wwx yeets away with demonic screeching. If lwj makes any sort of noise (yipping, whining, barking) it’s a growl of aggression. And when wwx goes on a typical tirade about how dogs are evil soulless monsters who all want to bite him, lwj gives him the singular saddest puppy dog eyes in the history of sad puppy dog eyes. And then wwx feels bad because that's his HUSBAND he's insulting, and so he tries to give lwj comfort pets.
Ends with wwx falling asleep cuddling with dog!lwj

Part Two: Claims about NMJ and NHS
Intro - Pt 1 - Pt 2 - Pt 3 - Pt 4
NMJ
1) NMJ wished to protect NHS from cultivating with the sabre as a youth.
I don't think he tells us this in quite so many words, but it seems implied by the flashback scenes: his giving NHS the paintbrush, the bit where he takes 修刀 and gives NHS 修心, and course him literally telling NHS that whatever NHS wishes to do, he'd support it.
As far as I can tell there's no evidence of this. Now, to be fair, we don't see them as children in MDZS, but there is not as far as I can tell any sign that NMJ has ever done anything but strongly desire that NHS work on the sabre. Indeed, even at Hejian during Sunshot, the reason he overhears MY and LXC's conversation is because he is bringing NHS' sabre to LXC so that NHS will not be able to escape practicing with it. He certainly does not renew any kind of commitment to allowing NHS to do what he wills before his death. In CQL, we see rather less, but as far as I can tell there doesn't seem to be anything that contradicts MDZS on this front.
2) In his heart, NMJ carried significant doubts about the righteousness of Nie cultivation practices, including both the sabre-curse-inducing sabre cultivation and the practice of balancing the sabre spirits via corpses in the wall
This is quite central to the movie. It's arguably implicit in his desire to protect NHS from cultivating with the sabre, but beyond that, he is clearly extremely uncomfortable at NHS' moral challenge of Nie practices and believes at least partially that NHS has a point; moreover, it's implicit in his confessions to NHS in the tomb:
The Nie family's ancestors created this family foundation with great hardships. Unexpectedly, it was cursed by the sword spirit. I practiced swordsmanship hard and thought I could find a way to solve it, but I just followed the same old disastrous road of the ancestors.
And of course, his moral arc in the movie is about embracing those doubts and rejecting Nie tradition.
There is as far as I can tell no evidence of this in MDZS or CQL; in fact we don't learn anything about the Nie burial traditions in scenes where NMJ is still alive, and he never shows any doubt about the wisdom of sabre cultivation.
3) NMJ used to be "intelligent and wise"; it's due to the effects of the sabre curse that he is "moody and brutal".
We're explicitly told this by NHS at around 32:50: "Da-ge, look at you now, you have changed. When you were young, you were always wise and intelligent. Ever since you practiced swordsmanship, you've become moody and brutal." It's also backed up by the childhood flashbacks. The sharp distinction between NMJ and sabre-curse-affected-NMJ, shown by the way sabre-curse-affected NMJ is visually marked out, also helps suggest this.
Now, in MDZS and CQL, this…is complicated. Again, in MDZS, we don't see him as a child—the earliest we see him is still well past the time he began practicing sabre cultivation. And in ch 26 NHS does indeed suggest that sabre cultivation causes increasing irritability; it certainly seems plausible, indeed almost necessary, that he had less of a temper before he started practicing, and for that matter we see his anger grow worse as time goes on.
Nevertheless, we never actually see any trace of a calm-tempered NMJ in the text. Even by the beginning of Sunshot, his reputation as an angry man is firmly established. Consider the Nie men's reaction to his anger at their shit-talking MY, in the cave:
The entire cave was in a muddle. Everyone knew ChiFeng-Zun’s personality—the more one tried to explain, the angrier he was. Seeing that they probably couldn’t escape punishment and would have to tell the truth, nobody dared to speak a word.
Even his friend LXC says to MY, “MingJue-xiong has quite a fiery personality. It must have been truly difficult for you to have earned his approval.”
And NHS, who very much loves his brother even as he is also to some extent frightened of him, is never shown pining for the halcyon days of yore. Narratively speaking, sabre-affected NMJ is the only NMJ we know. I think…this is something a Nie brothers spinoff could theoretically do something interesting with, but the way it's presented in their relationship is all wrong.
In CQL, the evidence is much the same or just not shown. NMJ generally seems less angry (though even so, we see him be angry at the Nie men for mocking MY (in subjective CQL-Empathy, but still), at WWX for saying maybe let's not kill XY immediately, at JGY for having killed the Nie cultivators, etc.), and if anything his relationship with NHS seems better than it is in the novel, although this too is well after he's begun to practice sabre cultivation.
4) NMJ respects NHS' interests
When picking NHS to lead the other team in the tombs, NMJ tells us that NHS knows most about astronomy in the Nie, and NMJ clearly considers this valuable.
If NHS did actually have significant knowledge of cultivation, NMJ would probably respect that. However, this is what NMJ has to say about the interests NHS canonically has (ch 49):
Nie HuaiSang was absolutely delighted. He greeted Jin GuangYao again and again as he grabbed the fans in haste. Seeing how his younger brother reacted, Nie MingJue was so outraged that he almost found it amusing. He turned to Jin GuangYao, “Don’t send him those useless things!”
In a hurry, Nie HuaiSang dropped a few fans on the ground. Jin GuangYao picked them up for him and put them into his arms, “HuaiSang’s hobbies are quite elegant. He’s dedicated to art and calligraphy, and has no propensity for mischief. How can you say that they’re useless?”
Nie HuaiSang nodded as fast as he could, “Yes, Brother is right!”
Nie MingJue, “But sect leaders have no need for such things.”
In CQL, I believe we just don't see enough to say, although given that again, NHS' isn't actually studying cultivation, it seems likely NMJ' attitudes are much the same.
NHS
1) NHS is profoundly morally motivated
NHS is immediately and hugely upset with the practice of using corpses in the walls, explicitly on moral grounds, even though it was the practice of their ancestors, and even once he finds out that they're not (usually) Nie men, but evildoers.
Having been told by NZH that the blades need the corpses to suppress their aggressiveness: "But isn't that just sacrificing people?" "Zonghui, the Nie family have always been righteous. If we give sacrifice to it with life, we will become evil."
And then, to NMJ: "Wait. Let me ask you. Why is here called the Sword Sacrifice Hall? What is to balance sword spirit? I didn't understand before coming what exactly Sword Sacrifice Hall represents. I know it now. This is not balance but sacrificing flesh and blood!"
NZH: Second Young Master, you misunderstood it. Those corpses belong to evil men. The Nie family's ancestors had uses their bodies to balance the sword spirit. We also follow the ancestral instructions."
NHS: (to NZH) Evil men? (to NMJ) Aren't they human beings? Are you qualified for deciding their fate?
NMJ: The sword spirit is extremely dangerous. Generations of the Nie family all balanced the spirit in this way.
NHS: Even if they were wrong, you also follow their way?
In MDZS…I went over the chapters where he shows up, and I'm not actually sure we ever see him express a moral sentiment? I could be missing something, but it doesn't seem to be any kind of fundamental part of his character.
This is his reaction to WWX's first suggestion of demonic cultivation, when they're studying at CR (ch 14):
After thinking for a few moments, an expression of envy and yearning appeared on Nie HuaiSang’s face, “To be honest, Wei-xiong’s words were quite interesting. Spiritual energy can only be obtained through cultivation and taking great pains to form a golden core. It would take I-don’t-know-how-many years to do, especially for someone like me, whose talent seems as if it was gnawed by a dog when I was in my mother’s womb. But, resentful energy are from the fierce ghosts. If they can easily be taken and used, it would be beyond wonderful.”
And—granted this is several years down the line and NHS is keeping up his cover, but when NHS is explaining the sabre tomb to LWJ and WWX in chapter 26, he doesn't seem to have any problem with the practice. In fact, he tells us that he participated in choosing corpses for NMJ's sabre:
Nie HuaiSang was already shocked speechless. Wei WuXian inquired, “Who chooses the corpses that the Nie Sect uses for the Saber Hall?”
Nie HuaiSang replied with a glazed expression, “Usually, the past sect leaders chose and stored them when they were still alive. My brother passed away at an earlier age. He didn’t have enough, so I also helped him choose some… I kept whichever corpses that were complete with all limbs. I don’t know about anything other than this…”
In CQL...mmm. I rewatched all the pre-Sunshot scenes with him in it, and I do think he comes across as, at least, less amoral. We don't have the gee wouldn't demonic cultivation be nice scene, and you could definitely interpret him as being worried about the granny at Dafan, or even the temporary-puppets; he says you have to admire Songxiao's integrity and elegance as they depart; and while we don't see him be part of the initial 'maybe we shouldn't just immediately execute XY squad,' he does go da-ge after NMJ seems irritated at WWX, and after NMJ throws MY out he goes in and is like but why!!!! That said, in both cases where he challenges (and I use the term rather loosely for the da-ge after NMJ is irritated with WWX), he immediately backs down faced with NMJ's opposition. I really don't see any sign of the character who is so morally motivated and so sure of his own correctness he challenges NMJ, /in front of all their men/, and keeps up the challenge despite NMJ's consistent opposition.
2) NHS isn't really interested in JGY's gifts
At no point is he shown delighting over or interested in anything JGY gave him (except of course the flute for treating his brother), and in fact when JGY says that after the journey he will give him gifts he replies "San-ge, I am not afraid of difficult journeys. I'm not craving for toys either." On the contrary, gifts are associated with /NMJ/, who gave him a paintbrush as a child.
In MDZS, we see him explicitly delighted in and interested by JGY's gifts. In ch 49, we see him going over a dozen gold-lined fans, which turn out to be gifts from JGY; when JGY mentions he's going to play a song for NMJ, he expresses interest and mentions "the limited edition" JGY gave him "last time," and then when NMJ shouts at him to go to his room he runs instead "to the living room for the presents that Jin GuangYao had brought him;" when JGY shows up at Qinghe after the stairs incident, NHS "beamed as he got ready to go to Jin GuangYao and see what presents he brought this time." Considering how little time they have together on the page, the gifts show up a great deal.
In CQL, we mostly don't see a lot of NHS and JGY's interactions after JGY's legitimation but before NMJ's death, so it's impossible to directly say. However, he is at least shown to delight in and greatly value beautiful things (see at least the fan flashback in ep 35).
3) NHS is motivated by a desire for his brother's respect and the respect of their men.
This is the argument JGY uses which finally settles NHS on going along on the journey, around 14:30: "Both of you are pillars of the Nie family. You should work together. You can also prove yourself." See also his pleasure with himself at solving the puzzle quickly in the tombs; it's not a purely self-satisfied pleasure, but rather, "It seems I'm not useless" (27:35ish). When NZH replies, "Second Young Master, you are definitely not useless. It's just because everyone has their own will," NHS gives a firm little nod. NMJ's respect for NHS' skills and interests is also made central to their relationship.
In MDZS, NHS really doesn't seem to be motivated by people respecting him. Consider, again, what he says about WWX's idea of demonic cultivation (ch 14):
After thinking for a few moments, an expression of envy and yearning appeared on Nie HuaiSang’s face, “To be honest, Wei-xiong’s words were quite interesting. Spiritual energy can only be obtained through cultivation and taking great pains to form a golden core. It would take I-don’t-know-how-many years to do, especially for someone like me, whose talent seems as if it was gnawed by a dog when I was in my mother’s womb. But, resentful energy are from the fierce ghosts. If they can easily be taken and used, it would be beyond wonderful.”
A golden core was a core formed by cultivators after they had cultivated to a certain point. It can store and control spiritual energy. After the core was formed, the cultivator’s level of cultivation would increase at a rapid speed, and become better and better. Else, they would only be a low-end cultivator. If disciple from a prominent clan forms the core at a later age, it would be a disgrace to tell other people of it, yet Nie HuaiSang didn’t feel ashamed at all. Wei WuXian also laughed, “I know, right? No harm comes from using it.”
Even during Sunshot, he's slacking off, using the excuse of having forgotten his sabre. (ch 48)
And then in ch. 49, after NMJ burns his things:
Nie HuaiSang roared at Nie MingJue, “Saber, saber, saber! Who the fuck wants to practice the damn thing?! So what if I want to be a good-for-nothing?! Whoever that wants to can be the sect leader! I can’t learn it means I can’t learn it and I don’t like it means I don’t like it! What’s the use of forcing me?!”
I'm not necessarily saying he wouldn't enjoy it if NMJ respected him, and certainly it seems a fair read that he would like it if NMJ yelled at him less. But by and large, he just doesn't show any objection to being thought of as useless, even before his Headshaker cover—and there's a reason that cover worked, after all.
In CQL...well, again, he doesn't really show any sign of objecting to being thought useless, as far as I can tell.
4) NHS knows about the sabre curse
JGY explicitly says so at about 13:05: "You know his sickness. He didn't do it on purpose." Moreover, if NHS didn't know, the offer of flute-playing wouldn't really make sense.
In MDZS, NMJ explicitly hasn't told NHS at least as of JGY's visit after the stairs, and there's no indication he told him between then and when he qi-deviated. Indeed, it's JGY who thinks NHS should be told, while NMJ rejects this (ch 50):
Jin GuangYao, “Brother, these days you’ve been stricter and stricter towards HuaiSang. Is it the saber spirit…?”
After a pause, he continued, “Does HuaiSang still not know about the saber spirit?”
Nie MingJue, “Why would I tell him so soon?”
In CQL, we're not told either way; this being the case I tend towards defaulting to MDZS unless I have a specific reason to think otherwise.
5) NHS, though bad at fighting, is skilled in cultivation theory
Again, JGY says so, at around 13:19: "You are good at Daoist magic" (and NHS seems to accept it). Moreover this is continually backed up by the film, with NHS making good use of it in the tomb, and then of course in the last scene having put together the true effect of the corrupted passage.
There is no indication of this in MDZS. He's interested in art and beautiful things, but he struggles with the Lan lectures. When JGY defends NHS' interests, he mentions art and calligraphy, and says his hobbies are elegant; he makes no mention of any kind of cultivation theory. As WWX himself notes, thinking back (ch 21):
In the past, Wei WuXian and Nie HuaiSang studied together, so there were a few things he could comment about this person. Nie HuaiSang wasn’t an unkind person. It wasn’t that he was not clever, but that his heart was set somewhere else and used his smarts on other areas, such as painting on fans, searching for birds, skipping classes, and catching fish. Because his talent in terms of cultivation really was poor, he formed his core around eight or nine years later than the other disciples of the same generation as him. When he lived, Nie MingJue was often exasperated by the fact that his brother didn’t meet his expectations, so he disciplined him strictly. Despite this, he still didn’t improve much.
I'm not saying he couldn't have developed in this direction after NMJ's death, but there doesn't seem to be any indication he was skilled in that way beforehand. Again, there's a reason his cover as "totally useless person" works as a cover.
In CQL, again, we don't really see any evidence of his skill with cultivation. NHS is shown flipping through his book for the answer to the executioner question LQR asks WWX; he doesn't show any evidence of significant cultivation knowledge on the road trip section (although he is shown to have a good memory for things he's actually interested in, and you could argue he has good instincts!); his wish at the lantern festival is that he passes his studies at the Lan. I just don't see it.

i would like To Hear The Aus for this other fandom
Its Mo Dao Zu Shi and I have two (well defined, anyway) - one is really stupid on the surface but works surprisingly well, the other looks normal on the surface but is actually really stupid. It’s my brand, I think. Enjoy?
Princess in a Tower AU
I want to lie and say this isn’t heavily inspired by the Shrek musical, if only to save my own dignity, but I can’t. It’s is. The musical slaps, ok?? It slaps real hard. The soundtrack on spotify is missing a few of the newer songs added in the broadway run but listen to Who I’d Be, I Think I got You Beat and When Words Fail to get what I mean - it fits well ok!!
So- Farquaard is Meng Yao. He may be the leader of Lanling Jin, but he’s still the bastard son of a prostitute. He’s grabbed his power through sheer stubbornness and a hard line anti mythical creature stance – he needs to consolidate it. What better way than the prince trapped in the cursed compound in Yilling? Not only would be gain power in his own right, wedded to son of the late emperor, he’d have Yunmeng Jiang in his debt. The Emperor was the sect leader’s sworn brother and their children played together before Wei Ying was trapped when he was seven. Perfect.
I was originally gonna have Lan Zhan be the princess but no it fits Wei Ying better - in the musical Shrek is emotionally constipated and bad with words. He has a whole song about it, it’s really cute.
So, Meng Yao needs somewhere to dump the creatures he’s rounded up because he doesn’t have the political sway yet to order executions. So they pick a mountain far enough away that its no longer Lanling’s problem and dump everyone there. Complication – a demon named Lan Zhan lives there and he’s really really not happy about the company. It’s customary in his family for children to be sent away from their family at a young age – he’s been living on his own since he was a child, excluding weekly visits from his older brother and rarer still, visits from his uncle. When he finds out someone is at fault for ruining his peace and quiet he all but storms down the mountain to make them fix it.
Nie Huaisang is Donkey, but he's actually a scrawny little dragon repeatedly mistaken for a lizard. He does very little to convince people otherwise. His brother is the dragon guarding Wei Ying, Meng Yao sent him feral. The Nie were a well respected family of dragons – turning Nie Mingjue feral was the start of his crusade against “monsters”.
bc,,, scrawny 'lizard' nie huaisang driving lwj to distraction on their epic one day quest to get his mountain back. He’s the biggest nightmare. Nie Huaisang was masterminded this whole thing.
This whole AU is mostly here because I saw the line "would love wei ying in any body" used in like 8 fics and I need an excuse to use it here.
Anyway, Monster Lan Zhan who lives on a mountain, and is convinced its better for him to be alone because he’s cursed and scary and doesn't need people anyway with Wei Ying falling in love with this man on fucking sight after he saves him from the cursed grounds he’s been trapped in since his parents died. His parent's energy cursed the grounds to keep him safe when they died (murdered, by order of Jin Guangshan) – it also ‘cursed’ him to take a monstrous form at night to keep him safe. It’s admittedly not really much of a curse, and it will break when he finally feels truly safe.
And then Wei Ying gets insecurities because hes "a monster" but,,, so is Lan Zhan and he's the kindest, best man he's ever met.
City Kid AU
I might, maybe, just a little, miss University. (I might be going back to get a vet science degree anyway so I doubt I’ll miss it for long). This AU is 100% a product of that.
The Jiangs own an agricultural university so they are stupid rich but work with animals - Jiang Cheng is getting a vet science degree, paid for by his parents. Wei Ying wants to get an animal sciences degree so he can work in biotech and in labs and he's gifted with chemistry, but madam yu insists he needs to pay for his own degree so he's been working at the uni in whatever job they'll give him
Lan Zhan kinda knows ab the animal science guy who attends none of the lectures he's meant to and sneaks into vet lectures but doesn't really interact with him until 3rd yeah when they have their animal handling labs
then Wei Ying effortlessly flips a sheep and pets its disgruntled face and Lan Zhan falls in love instantly
Wei Ying has been pining over this boy since he saw the bunnies on his phone case - outrageously expensive phone paired with a dirt-cheap snap on case with felted rabbits on it. very clearly an impulse buy. its amazing.
Lan Zhan signing up to help milk the cows at 4am. at first it was bc he gets up at that time anyway so it really wasn’t any skin off his back and he figured he might as well do something productive with him time but his supervisor is Wei Ying who teases him and gives him gross cow milk facts that make him vegan times 10 but he’s never fussed or complained once.
TL;DR: Lan Zhan is just a pathetic city boy head over heels for the hot guy who loves animals
Wei Ying is still scared of dogs here but he has like,,, a handle on it. mostly. If he knows there is going to be a dog, he's fine. if it tries to bite him, he can deal with it but he will go have a breakdown after. if he doesn't know there is going to be a dog there is a solid chance he'll have a panic attack.
ooooo Jiang Cheng is mad and thinks Wei Ying is goofing off with all the "jobs" and not committing to a degree because Wei Ying can't bring himself to tell him that madam yu cut him off the day he turned 18. Jiang Fengmian doesn't know either. Wei Ying just,,, assumes he does and agrees with madam Yu
wei ying who doesn't eat more than 2 meals a day because he's too busy and the wens down the hall from him have even less than he does
okay but Wei Ying not having enough money for groceries and Lan Zhan giving him a meal ticket to “”go collect some food for him”” and when he comes back oh Wei Ying i’m sorry i already ate. oh well. u can keep that.
he cooks food for his floor on meeting nights and basically empties out his part of the fridge just to see everyone smile.

yeah sizhui is wangxian's son but i'm sad they never actually got to raise a child together so consider :
post-canon, they're roaming about night-hunting together and they stop at a town to rest and lwj goes somewhere idk to buy food or something and while wwx's waiting for him to get back he happens to come across a little homeless girl being chased by a dog and his first instinct ofc, is to wanna hide but then he looks at the girl and she looks so terrified and no one else seems to care and it reminds him of his own childhood and he doesn't know how or why but suddenly he's standing in between the girl and the dog, shielding her.
the girl clings onto him, trembling. if she notices that he himself is scared shitless she doesn't let on. the dog bares its teeth at him, a low growl in its throat. wwx gulps. he's wondering wtf he was planning on doing when he intervened. will he be able to outrun the dog whilst carrying the child?
lwj arrives just then, saving him the hassle. understandably, he is surprised to see wwx shielding someone from a dog instead of it being the other way around. he chases the dog away and looks at wwx questioningly. wwx heaves a sigh of relief and flashes him a grateful smile. then he turns back to the girl who's still clutching tightly at his robes. she has a gaunt face and big doe eyes that look bright and sad at the same time.
“you're okay now, it's gone,” he strokes her head, smiling reassuringly. the girl nods but doesn't respond. he gets some of the food lwj has bought and hands it to her. she gobbles it up like she hasn't eaten in days and the sight makes his heart ache. lwj offers her more food and she looks up at the pretty man in white in a kind of daze as she takes it. she's so adorable.
“where are your parents?” wwx asks. they shouldn't let her walk around by herself.
the girl looks down. “don't have any.”
wwx mentally curses himself. of course, he thinks. what a stupid question to ask! why else would she be roaming the streets alone?!
as he turns his attention back to the girl a crazy thought occurs to him. he looks at lwj hesitantly.
“lan zhan...” wwx begins. he moves away from the girl and lowers his voice so she doesn't hear him. “i know this is out of the blue but....we don't know what'll happen if we just leave her here and she– i remember how horrible it was living on the streets when i was little so....do you think we could–”
“yes.”
wwx blinks. “yes?”
“mn.”
“but i wasn't even done with my question?”
“i know what wei ying was going to ask.”
“you do? and you're okay with it?”
lwj looks at the little girl, who is now looking up at the two of them with curious eyes and his expression softens, a fond smile adorning his face. “mn. she is cute, like wei ying. sizhui would be happy to have a little sister.”
wwx has to stop himself from squealing with delight.
“thank you lan zhan!” he pecks him on the cheek and turns to the girl.
“do you wanna come with us?!” he asks, a little too excited. “we'll be your parents!”
the girl's eyes go even wider. there's a moment of silence as she considers this. wwx's smile falters a little as he thinks about the possibility of her refusing. but then she smiles so wide that lwj can't help smiling again. he has wondered what it would be like to have a daughter ever since they met little mianmian the other day.
“okay!!” she squeals and rushes forward to give them both the biggest hug her little arms can manage.
~~
wangxian name her after yanli (let's just say she didn't have a proper name before and had just gone by whatever people called her).

HP AU Headcanons
I just noticed that I’ve hit 500 followers ( ?! omg you guys!! (⁄ ⁄•⁄ω⁄•⁄ ⁄)⁄), so I cleaned up and expanded on some of my HP AU headcanons from the AO3 comments section.
Things that happen before fic #1
During the War, Wei Wuxian has at least ten different balls in the air, trying to keep the innocent Wen children (+elderly) from Jin Guangshan, including:
The Stygian Tiger Seal,
Becoming an Animagus (which no one knows about, and tbh he was hoping for something more combat-useful than a bunny, but hey, at least he’s not a dog),
Inferi (so many dead bodies lying around, and their ex-inhabitants aren’t using them, so he may as well--)
ANIMAL Inferi (because a bitch cannot be picky when a bitch has no army), but he mostly abandons the idea after the first few battles because if you’re looking to enchant things to work as an army, it’s easier to enchant 1000 of the same shape of thing than to enchant 3 each of 257 different things with different shapes, sizes and capabilities
Booby-trapping the fuck out of Yiling with:
Various blood arrays (ranging from magical versions of “surprise!-now-you’re-in-a-net-hanging-out-of-a-tree” and “surprise!-you’ve-fallen-into-a-hidden-hole” to “surprise!-now-your-head-is-gone”)
A man-eating tomb inspired by Nie Huaisang’s ancestral tomb, possibly made possible by an ancestral blade that Wei Wuxian pilfered “borrowed” from said ancestral tomb,
A magical oubliette - key to the storyline!
He was intending to stash the Stygian Tiger Seal in here to stop Jin Guangshan getting at it, because Jin Guangshan would either:
Fail to get in
Get in but fail to get out
Wei Wuxian either stocks the oubliette with necessities-for-life, or leaves enough loopholes in the spellwork so that anyone trapped in there would be able to access necessities-for-life (despite not being able to magic themselves out) because: 1) What if someone accidentally falls in, and 2) Although he’d be okay with Jin Guangshan dying, in the ideal outcome of his grand plan, they need him alive for Wizengamot trials, etc.
The plan is perfect, except that Jin Guangshan catches him in the act of stashing the seal, and in the ensuing struggle, Wei Wuxian gets himself (and the seal, thankfully) trapped.
(So he gives himself a pat on the back for making the oubliette liveable - “Thanks, past-me.”)
During the ten years, Wei Wuxian works on the magical equivalent of digging a hole out of a stone prison with a single spoon (slowly working on loosening various parts of his containment spells or trying to find a way to send a message to the outside world via his food-and-air loopholes), and also works on some other hobby projects in his spare time because the going is slow. To his credit, he’s actually almost got it by the time Nie Huaisang stumbles on his notes and gets him out.
In the meantime, Jin Guangshan has died, and Jin Guangyao has taken over his father’s:
position as Minister of Magic;
search for the Stygian Tiger seal.
Either because he’s looking for the Stygian Tiger seal, or because he’s noticed Nie Huaisang skirting a little too close to the truth behind his brother’s death and is following him, he stumbles upon Nie Huaisang freeing Wei Wuxian.
[Insert duelling]
Wei Wuxian gets wounded by a curse, turns into a rabbit when Jin Guangyao isn’t looking, flees into the forest and ends up at Gusu.
He never plans to try to cross the ward perimeter, but then he gets noticed by the dog...
Things that happen during fic #1
Once in Gusu, Wei Wuxian’s plan is to recover from the curse and then go back to have it out with Jin Guangyao.
His initial reason for not doing a “surprise!” reveal to Lan Wangji is that he’s not actually clear on what LWJ’s opinion of him as Yiling Patriarch is - i.e. what if it gets him turned in to the Ministry, the tender mercies of Jin Guangyao and a Wizengamot that’s Jin-controlled and/or already decided that Wei Wuxian is guilty?
(Lan Wangji blames himself for this: “a boy who would not accept his help because Lan Zhan failed to clearly tell him what he was offering.”)
His reasons for still not doing a “surprise!” reveal to Lan Wangji after 1) spending time with him, 2) spending time with the WWX-shaped hole in his life and 3) finally Getting It are that:
He also Gets that everyone and their dog (lul) already Get That, too
Jin Guangyao knows Wei Wuxian is at large, which therefore makes Lan Wangji suspect numero uno on the list of People Who Would Hide Wei Wuxian
(Wei Wuxian is proven 100% in the right regarding this when Jin Guangyao comes knocking for control over the Academy and Lan Wangji acts in precisely the way he does)
If Wei Wuxian is caught, he can at least keep Lan Wangji safe if Veritaserum shows that he actually knew nothing
He does, however, secretly change back at least twice to:
Talk to Lan Wangji while he’s asleep;
Break out of Lan Wangji’s rooms to go roaming around the school.
As soon as Wei Wuxian is recovered, he goes off to fight Jin Guangyao on his turf (before Jin Guangyao can come back to Gusu and try again).
Unfortunately, this coincides precisely with Jin Guangyao coming back to Gusu and trying again - they out-manoeuvre each other and each ends up at the other’s base.
Wei Wuxian is the first one to realise what’s happened and rushes back.
Being unconscious, Lan Wangji misses out on:
Nie Huaisang bringing out his vast stores of proof in re: the Jin machinations behind his brother’s death (and incidentally, his discovery of Wei Wuxian)
Jin Guangyao being bound and arrested by non-corrupt Aurors in front of Lan Xichen, the previously-Imperius-ed Jiang Cheng and Nie Huaisang, the retrieved-from-hiding teachers/students/Lan elders
Wei Wuxian taking advantage of this audience to be like “Now all of Gusu knows you’re evil!”
Wei Wuxian being proven to therefore be not (that) evil after all.
Especially given that the larger part of the jury is now from the generation who had their youth consumed by/were greatly changed by the War, and who mostly agree that the Jins shitting on the innocent Wens was kind of gross anyway (as represented by Lan Xichen).
Things that happen after fic #1
Wei Wuxian falls into teaching because:
During his ten years of being trapped, he invented some really neat magical things
Nothing better to do
Don’t want to leave Lan Wangji just yet (or: lol just try prying yourself out of the deathgrip Lan Wangji is using to metaphorically clutch you to his manly chest, I dare you)
Or rather, he hangs around because of the above, and then Lan Wangji helps him to demo something in class, and he’s like “Sure!”. And then Lan Xichen sees this and is like “hey can you help me demo something too”, and he’s like “Sure!” and -
(And then after this goes on a while, Lan Qiren is like “IF YOU’RE GONNA HANG AROUND AND EAT OUR FOOD YOU MAY AS WELL EARN YOUR KEEP” and also “WE MAY AS WELL PUT YOU ON PAYROLL TO AVOID EMPLOYMENT LAW VIOLATIONS AND ALSO FOR TAX PURPOSES”.)
Wei Wuxian totally enters his first class as a rabbit, and sits on the desk, nodding to each student as they come in. And then when everyone’s present, he stands on his hind legs like he’s going to teach as a rabbit, too, just to see what the students will do.
(If Jin Ling is in that class, the answer is: riot)
Lan Wangji is the kind of Professor who’s consistently a hard-arse because:
He wants to push you, as a student, to reach your full potential; and
He wants you, as a student, to have clear/consistent expectations to work and grow within.
On the other hand, Wei Wuxian is the kind of Professor who’s like “Everything is lalala” during term, and then suddenly the exam is diabolical, made up of 70% lateral-thinking/problem-solving and only 30% of things you actually studied because “That’s real life, kids.”
Now that Lan Wangji knows he’s the rabbit, Wei Wuxian uses his powers to do really dumbshit things like
Perve on Lan Wangji in the shower (Lan Wangji looks down, sees a little black nose under the cubicle door and is like “...”)
Perve on Lan Wangji while he’s changing in their room (Lan Wangji pulls off his shirt, sees a little black nose peeking out from under the bed, is like “...” and drops the shirt straight onto the rabbit’s head)
Upskirt Lan Wangji through his robes (Lan Xichen sees a little black shape running behind his brother in the halls, constantly darting forward to peek under the hem of his flowing robe and is like “...”)
Other things
When Lan Sizhui is five or six or something, he enters a stage of ultimate Lan-Wangji-hero-worship, where he dresses like his dad and follows him around, doing everything he does. So:
Lan Wangji sweeps down the school hallway, one arm in front and one arm behind (in true Chinese Gentleman Style), and a tiny Lan Sizhui follows behind, running slightly to keep up but also holding the same arm in front and the same arm behind.
Lan Wangji stops to look up at the moon, Lan Sizhui also stops to look up at the moon. Lan Wangji nods at students/his brother/a fellow teacher/his uncle, and tiny Lan Sizhui does the same, all the while darting little upwards glances at Lan Wangji to make sure he’s doing it right.
The students/Lan Xichen/teachers/Lan Qiren think this is adorable (”The Little Professor has graced me with his approval ;A;!”), so no one says anything in case Lan Sizhui gets self-conscious and stops.
And then before he knows it, Lan Sizhui has picked up all the things as habits and welp, this is who he is now.
In re: Wen Ning:
All the years Wei Wuxian is gone, with it being common knowledge that the Wen clan was completely wiped out in the War, Wen Ning thinks he’s alone and mostly wanders the Wizarding world by himself (not daring to go anywhere too populous in case he alarms people, but helping anyone he stumbles across if they’re in need - without being seen, if he can manage it).
Then Wei Wuxian comes back, and with him is Sizhui, and Wen Ning thinks, “Oh, I’m not alone! I have one family member and one friend!”
But actually, all the Gusu students have already adopted him, so he has an entire school of family, he just doesn’t know it yet.
One afternoon the students catch him playing two-man Quidditch with Wei Wuxian as goalie, and are like “!!! Why didn’t we think of that?!” so now Wen Ning plays in all the casual games, and the students fight over who gets to have them on their team.
In re: Mianmian:
Mianmian spends the years following the War as a wandering cursebreaker, disarming all the nasty magical mines/traps/offensive spells that now litter the country, helping magical folk who don’t have enough skill/expertise to deal with the problems themselves, as well as any hapless muggles who get unwittingly caught.
She probably meets her husband when she saves him from something.
She becomes a teacher after Lan Xichen finds out about her exploits and invites her to come back.
When her muggle husband comes to visit her workplace, he’s like “So this is where you grew up. Wow.” and he’s not even amazed by the magic, it’s that he picked the same day that Jiang Cheng came to visit Jin ling, so a rabbit shoots down the hallway and up Lan Wangji’s robes, a dog goes chasing after it, a shouting purple man goes charging after that (firing spells and yelling for Wei Wuxian to “COME BACK HERE!”), while being half-held back by a ... ghost? and it’s total bedlam.
And Mianmian is just like “Yup.”

MDZS/The Untamed AU thoughts!
Awhile ago, I headcannoned an AU but I can’t find the post. I wanted to babble on it while I’m waking up.
A/B/O AU where if you decide to cultivate a golden core, you’ll present as one of A/B/O, therefore when you present it’s biological, but magic based so you can choose to present, but you can’t choose what it is.
Long post. Mentions of the R word.
Normal people don’t present and are just normal.
WWX was an alpha. As was Lan Wangji so while they might angry-flirt, they’re never going to be mates. But then the Wens win at Nightless City during the Sunshot Campaign and Wei Wuxian is publicly executed.
13 years later, WWX is reincarnated into the omega body of Mo Xuanyu.
The world is quite different from when he died.
The Wens have the run of the place. Wen Ruohan has been crowned King while all other cultivation sects are now considered supervisory offices. More or less labor camps that are tightly overseen by Wens.
Before WWX can come to grips with this new world and what he’s supposed to do, he’s swept out of Mo Manor by yet-presented and beta cultivators lead by a young man named Wen Sizhui. His troupe are all Lans with threadbare grey-not-white robes and forehead ribbons that look like they were ripped off of white clothing, or the ribbons are so frayed they look tattered and second hand.
While Wen Sizhui appears kind, with a sweet face and gentle tones, he’s ruthless. They take out the Mo family curse that’s closer to a death sentence than a saving, then they drag all omegas out of the manor for The Games.
They were there to pick up the omegas originally, and just happened to save/kill the Mo family while they’re there. Confused, WWX goes along with it, barely registering that he is in fact an omega now.
WWX is taken on a carriage that looks like it could be closed up like a jail cell. He’s squished in with a handful of others that look crossed between terrified and depressed, resigned to a horrible fate.
Along the way they are met with another group. These are Jins with another handful of villagers. This one is headed by a Jin Ling. There’s an offhanded conversation, where it seems that Wen Sizhui and Jin Ling know each other, maybe even friends.
Turns out, the Jins sided with the Wens and are thriving under the heavy hand of Wen, while the other sects are dwindling in homes that closely resemble labor camps.
The Lans had rebelled again, so The Games are going to be held on the mountains of Gusu. They head up to Cloud Recesses which was never properly rebuilt. There’s huts, not homes. Attempts were made to make this suppressed sect back into its tranquil past, but it’s clearly lacking.
Throughout a semi-imprisonment while people are gathered to Gusu, WWX learns that the Lans have been the biggest rebellion to subjugation even over a decade after losing. He sees LXC a few times. He looks as beautiful and regal as ever, but his clothing is old, his ribbon is cut short, and the once brightness in his eyes for hope has darkened to a façade. He has yet to see LWJ.
Lotus Pier is gone. Wen Xu was killed by LWJ, and Wen Ruohan has adopted Wen Sizhui as his heir when Wen Chao had proven unable to perform after he ‘lost his mind’ during the Sunshot campaign.
When Wen Ruohan arrives WWX is shocked to see that he’s flanked by Meng Yao (top advisor) and Jiang Cheng (his body guard). Turns out, Meng Yao was a pivotal point in getting the Jins to turn on the other sects that won the Wens the war. Jiang Cheng was said to be a loyal dog to the Wens when he had no where else to go. Others say that JC was blackmailed into the position when his sister was threatened.
Jin Guangshan cowers before Wen Ruohan, but he smiles and has his head held high. He knows he’s in a position of power but only at the behest of the Wens. Then a crowd gathers and a ceremony is being presented for The Games.
WWX and other omegas are ushered to a side stage like cattle. Across from a crowd he sees alphas on a similar platform. On the main stage Wen Ruohan has a handful of minor and major sect leaders.
WWX is THRILLED that his sister is in the omegas with him so he tries to communicate with her who he is. Like everyone in the group, she looks frightened but resigned to what is going to happen. She doesn’t give WWX much room to talk, as they must be quiet while a presentation happens. Jiang Yanli does hold WWX close, as if comforting the other omega. He notices that there are others clinging together, and this is not uncommon.
WWX also sees LWJ across to the other stage at where the alphas are lined up. This group is different. The alphas are stoic in general, but there is a good number of Wen alphas in front of them, clearly rowdy and excited.
WWX notices that Nie Mingjue is not there, and Nie Huaisang is a cowering beta on stage. Sadly, NMJ was killed a few years ago protecting LXC in The Games. It’s rumored that it was closer to a murder than self defense, an orchestrated attack. Jin Zixuan looks disappointed and is instructed by his father to stand with the Wen alphas.
A gruesome display happens. A Lan omega has been induced into a heat and is on display as they writhe, out of control, on stage. LXC finally breaks ranks and covers the omega before a rowdy Wen can get too close. He covers them with his coat and they’re both beaten.
“At least he’s not raped this year,” someone says in the omega’s stage, a whispered, scared thing. WWX is surprised but as it turns out, LXC is an omega. He always said he was beta, but being an omega as a sect leader is near impossible when it comes to respect among peers.
The Games, as it turns out, is like Hunger Games. Higher ranking omegas and alphas are forced into heats and ruts then let loose in a designated area for sport. Wens hunt the omegas. The alphas that are not Wens are let loose for the sake of humiliation.
The forced heats will usually last three days, in which there is no shelter on the mountainside, but magical barriers to keep them in one area. Birds with eye-talisman fly overhead so that those not in the arena can watch the chaos from a screen-like object.
After the ‘ceremony,’ the alphas and omegas are ushered into a tight space and a magic hormone scent is pumped into the area. They are being forced into head/ruts.
First into the arena, the omegas are released. They’re separated so they cannot hide together. The first alphas WWX encounters is JC and Jin Zixuan. He’s afraid of JC immediately when he’s rushed upon, thinking that he’s about to be raped by his former brother-turned Wen, when JC rushes past him to knock out a Wen that was coming up behind him.
Jin Zixuan looks on at WWX in disgust. Apparently, Mo Xuanyu had no shame and would try to mate with his blood relatives. But WWX’s fears of JC being let loose on him begins to fade when JC notes that he doesn’t like WWX’s scent and they surround him as they walk to find other non-Wens. They’re playing guard.
WWX is confused. Aren’t they Wen allies now? But as it turns out, in The Games, people form pacts. JZX obviously would only want to mate with his wife, and JC says he has a pact with another omega so he can’t spend his energy on WWX’s nasty smell.
The scents they give off is magic based with their golden core. Despite giving up his core, then dying, the scents of MXY is mixed with that of his own brand of magic. JC notices something is.. off on the scent. Familiar. Like the past and like his own but different. He can’t put his finger on it so he puts Mo Xuangyu into a familiar category in his brain/hormones which is a no-mate zone.
They find Jiang Yanli. She’s apparently the alpha of omegas and is known for taking omegas under his wing. She has a trail of them behind her and they all look relieved when JC and JZX come into view. They know they’re here to protect them... until their own hormones overwhelm them and they have to mate.
The next day they run across a group of roaming Wens that induced themselves to give them vigor and a stronger sex drive. JC and JZX have to play a careful political game to outwit and beat off the Wens without compromising their positions in the Wen hierarchy.
So JC isn’t a Wen loyalist after all. He was, indeed, blackmailed, and it appears that JZX had spoken out against the Wens and that is why he’s forced into The Games along with his wife. Despite protecting each other, it isn’t unheard of omegas getting raped despite being mated in these games. They are built to humiliate and tear down heroic sprites, but if one becomes pregnant with a Wen, then they are forced into a sort of Wen concubine’s life, forced to live under the Wen that is the parent of the child.
They eventually come by a small pact of Lans. WWX learns that the Lans have long since kept to themselves after they were overthrown and have little trust with other clans. However, WWX does note that LWJ and JC have a sort of alliance, possibly even friendship going for them. Or as friendly as the two of them can get. JC is low key always helping where he can, and WWX suspects that JC led Wen Xu into LWJ’s sword.
Among the Lans are a few others with masks on. WWX quickly recognizes the scent of Wen Sizhui. He holds respect for Lan Wangji because he saved his small village of Wens, including Wen Ning and Wen Qing.
Seems LWJ is all over the place making allies!
The few pacts run together for a bit until a few get too rowdy to help out. A few mated couples have to part way, unable to keep hormones in check.
During The Games, there is little shame among them. They cannot control themselves, so announcing to the group that one has to part because they’re going to lose control, and need to have a good dicking with their mate, is not frowned on. If one has to turn away in the corner of a cave to take care of things, it’s respectfully ignored and understood.
WWX has struggled quite a bit. This body is in his prime and he is not used to the responses of an omega.
When the pacts begin to shrink due to the need to part ways to mate, they start to converge. Eventually, the Lans run with JC’s group when JZX and Jiang Yanli had to leave.
Finally, JC admits that he cannot stay in control, and Lan Xichan leaves with him... that is when JC’s familiar scent leaves and WWX is overcome with LWJ’s dominate hormones.
That’s also when LWJ is not simmered from his brother’s scent and is overwhelmed with WWX. Not MXY, but he knows, he cannot mistake the scent of the former alpha he used to love.
It has been rumored that LWJ hasn’t touched anyone when forced into these games. He’s one of the few that still have fire in their eyes, a desire to fight back. In WWX’s opinion of seeing him again, he’s still just as beautiful as ever, even with his ripped robes and messy hair, he stole WWX’s attention even from far away.
Now, closer, stuck in this pact with LWJ the sole alpha among a handful of omegas and undercover Wen helpers... WWX lets out a whine and LWJ responds!! It takes everyone by surprise when LWJ doesn’t even try to move them away from the group as the others did when he grabs WWX and start rutting up against his thigh.
They’re used to this in The Games, honestly. It’s the sorry and sad nature of the event, but to see someone like LWJ break shakes them.
Wen Sizhui can’t get LWJ’s attention enough to even ask him to leave, that they’ll take care of the omegas when LWJ pushes WWX down on the ground and starts rucking up his robes. So the omegas and undercover Wens run before LWJ penetrates WWX. And as for WWX, the dam broke the moment LWJ touched him. He was gone, all wet and wants nothing more than to get LWJ inside of him and mate him until he can’t see straight.
Which he does. Brilliantly.
Having held back for so long, and never taken anyone, even in a forced rut, LWJ has very little control or downtime. He mumbles, between sessions, how he is sorry that he “cannot care of Wen Ying as he should” and WWX understands. And gets that, well, LWJ knows who he is.
After The Games end WWX begins to incite rebellion among the people. Mo Xuanyu was never respected for his obvious incestuous desires for his kin and his general lack of sanity (or so they say). But he suddenly gains new respect among the repressed with the rebellion leader LWJ by his side.
However, Meng Yao (sorry, he is the evil bad guy in this one) is smart, and uses his skills of persuasion and sweet face to always be at the right place at the right time when the rebellion tries to rise up. However, soon, the entirety of Gusu Lan is overturned and the Wen office is burned.
NHS gets on board and make a personal vendetta against Meng Yao for the plotted death of his brother. Soon, smaller sects join in once they see the tides turning.
Then on a surprise move, Jin Guangshan is poisoned. No one is 100% sure who did it, but some suspect his son. Jiang Yanli will never tell the public how her father-in-law tried yet again to get her into bed, and how her fingers slipped over his drink with something hidden in a ring.
This incites inner fighting, then a pushback on the Wens.
A few months of fighting passes by and changes happen as tensions rise and people are pushed together as they fight. Mainly, having to maintain heats around alphas.
WWX didn’t realize the amount of work that omegas went into to keep their scents at bay, so he didn’t realize at first just why LWJ would not let him have a night to himself. Or why LWJ would be possessive around other alphas. Then he goes into heat again, naturally, and LWJ steals him away for an amazing few days of doting and mating and come back to a lost battle for the rebels.
Lan Xichen has to teach WWX these things. Here, WWX learns about JC being a secret romantic to LXC and they have mated no just out of necessity. LXC blushes and says that JC marked him years ago and they had to find a spell in the black market to cover it up. Apparently, Wen Sizhui discovered this and handed the spell to JC and since has shown himself as an allie as well.
WWX slowly falls in love with LWJ, who turns out to be an incredibly doting mate and even asks to be marked before the final battle. LWJ never stopped loving him, even in death.
The final battle, NHS calls a secret truce talk with Meng Yao where NHS says he’ll betray the rebels as long as he’s left alone and safe with his art and fans. Then he stabs Meng Yao in the back. Literally, NHS asks for another bowl of wine, and when Meng Yao turns to get it he stabs the little f’er in the back.
The Wens are falling apart when JC pulls his loyalists/secret rebels/Jiang clan survivors to turn the tide. It’s Wen Suzhui that kills Wen Ruohan with a bloody show of power; even holds up his head as proof before everyone that he’s dead, then orders Wen Chao dragged out and beheaded as well.
Wen Suzhui is viciously cold when he has to be. Therefore, the young man becomes sect leader and surrenders the Wens to the rebels. Unlike before, when the Wens are all rounded up in the end they have a leader that doesn’t resist but demands boundaries to be set, all the while with the sweetest of faces and the deception of youth.
Wen Ruohan loyalists are cut down, and what little remains of the Wens are banished to a village where Wen Ning and Wen Qing are. So, not many Wens left. (Doesn’t stop Wen Suzhui from courting the Jin heir from afar with sweet letters, gently returned with flowers with Jin Ling’s scent)
At the celebratory banquet for their win, WWX announces his pregnancy and LWJ publicly cries happy tears. And then...?
Happily ever after? Probably.

Follower Recs
Stories I haven’t read yet, but clearly need to put on my ever-expanding List.
~*~
Welcome back queen [Thank you, it’s so lovely to be back!] if ur still doing follower recs I gotta recommend I would wait for a thousand years by bleuett it’s soooooooo good
[This one was actually recced to me by two different people, the other of whom said, “ Maybe I'm crying a little so I feel like a should recommend ‘I would wait for a thousand years’ by bleuett on ao3.”]... it’s def. on my List!
I would wait for a thousand years
by bleuett (T, 10k, wangxian)
Summary:  During the worst of winter, a traveler comes to stay at Lan Wangji's inn. He wears a red ribbon in his hair.
“Do you see the rabbit?” Wei Ying asks and points at the moon. “That’s the moon rabbit, he helps make Chang’e more immortality elixir. He keeps Chang’e company.”
“I do not wish the rabbit for company,” Lan Wangji says tightly. “You are the one I want by my side.”
“And I’m here, Lan Zhan. If you go to the moon, I’ll follow you, I’ll always be here now.”

I just read a great fic by aisthuu "every love story is a ghost story", didn't see it in your recs so wanted to recommend it! LWJ is a guqin composer and teacher, buys a cheap guqin off eBay which ends up being attached to WWX's spirit from canon era. It's bittersweet, LWJ deals with Lan's homophobia (implicit in a Lan way) and his feelings towards the ghost. This is author's only ao3 fic and honestly I don't remember how I stumbled upon it, but I'm happy I did and hope you will enjoy it too!  [I’ve recently read this one, and loved it!]
every love story is a ghost story
by aisthuu (M, 59k, wangxian, my bookmark)
Summary:  The man is in Lan Zhan’s bed. Did they—he begins to wonder, eyes trailing to where the man’s body lies under the blanket. Had Lan Zhan—?
Then the sleep-fog clears and Lan Zhan realizes that the young man isn’t quite opaque around the edges.
“You’re a spirit.”
The spirit narrows its eyes. “I’m so much more than that.”
(Lan Zhan buys a guqin off eBay for a suspiciously low price, only to find that it’s haunted. And now there’s a ghost in his bed.)

Ok so I absolutely have to rec "see you yesterday" by glyphic. It's a wip, but it's currently at 101k so there's a whole lot there, and it's terrible and wonderful and beautiful all at once. The way the backstory of canon events is adapted to the modern-with-cultivation setting is brilliant, and then there's the amnesia, and then there's the time loop. This fic lives permanently rent-free in my brain.
see you yesterday
by glyphic (M, 101k, wangxian, WIP)
Summary:
Wei Ying 21:09 hey lan zhan what’s the weirdest way youve died
Lan Zhan 21:11 Falling encyclopedias.
Wei Ying 21:12 omg no way that’s so rude turning books against you???
Lan Zhan 21:13 A betrayal I will never forget.
On Halloween night, an exiled demonic cultivator and a Lan disciple get stuck in a time-loop, find each other, and try to figure it all out.

If you are looking for recs for yourself I absolutely love (the complete!) story Just as the Snow Melts by draechali on AO3. It's a canon divergence where everyone lives, even WWX! ~ @airmidcelt
Just as the Snow Melts
by draechaeli (T, 67k, wangxian)
Summary:  Like a snowy mountain top in spring the residents of the Burial Mounds trickled down the mountain and joined the flow of society.
“I went to the Burial Mounds,” Lan WangJi said.
“Ah, yeah… I’m sorry Lan Zhan,” replied Wei WuXian, “I hadn’t thought anyone would come to visit. I am still not sure how it happened; I brought A-Yuan to Yiling to play by the river and then ended up somehow teaching a bunch of children swimming and writing along with him.”

Hello! It's come to my attention that you have not as yet read Grandmaster of Meme-onic Cultivation! Please do! It's the only thing that gave me joy during 2020 😆 like proper belly laughs and disney villain style cackling. It is a wip, and it is long but so so worth it!! The author has reworked the entire canon through these message crystals and still conveys complex characters despite the tricky format. It's just so good!! Highly highly recommend it! ❤ ~ @theladypeartree  [Oh!  I’ve been subscribed to this one, and know that @swaglexander-the-great is a reliable provider of Hilarity, so I’m excited for it to be finished!]
Grandmaster of Meme-onic Cultivation
by Hades_the_Blingking (T, 49k, wangxian, WIP)
Summary:  The Untamed universe is exactly the same, except everybody has magical crystals that have a suspiciously familiar messaging system. The story is pretty much the same as the show, except everyone lives!! (so minor changes).
or in which Wei WuXian tries his darndest to date Lan Zhan, Jiang Cheng possibly has a aneurysm, Jin ZiXuan is still the most awkward human alive, and Xue Yang makes me write some VERY cursed things. Written in chatfic format! :3

Chomrafy on AO3 deserves love and encouragement; she’s written a body of compact, poetic, and eloquent shortfics each of which can stand alone, but that comprise an intricately cross-referential and mostly internally-consistent universe. They’re grouped as chapters in works according to theme; for example, “in cupped hands” focuses upon Jin Ling and his second-generation baggage; “Departure in Autumn” portrays the last years of WWX’s first life. Follow the tag “Chomrafy’s MDZS shortfics.” [I don’t see this tag?]

by chomrafy (not rated, 6k)

Ch.3: Five times Jiang Cheng reaches for Wei Wuxian, one time he turns away. Ch.4: Whether the road is broad or narrow, bright or dark, they would have to keep walking. Hello, hope all is going well. I don't have an ask, by I do have a recommendation. I read this fic a while ago and found it again. I just wanted to recommend this for everyone. Let me know what you think please. Thank you. [Oh!  This one’s in my To Read list, but  I’d forgotten about it.  Mmmm, fox!wwx and dragon!lwj.]
Ten miles of Lotus Flowers
by Yukirin_Snow
M, 274k, wangxian
Summary:  He was a mischievous fox spirit, wreaking havoc where he went, about to depart on a journey that would span centuries.
He was a heavenly prince, a proud dragon destined to ascend the throne to become emperor.
Neither expected their paths to collide over the span of three lives.

I forgot if it was your blog 😥 that recommended “Bestseller” (when Wei Wuxian writes the Xianxia cut-sleeve equivalent of Fifty Shades of Grey, based entirely on his experiences with Lan Wangji, he doesn’t expect it to become the next big hit) (https://archiveofourown.org/works/21528316/chapters/51318766)
But OMG IT WAS HILARIOUS!!! I LOVED IT!! And if it wasn’t your blog, I’m so sorry for how weird this sounds 😭😭😭😭 I just loved this fic so much that I have to tell it to someone 😢 [It’s on my List, but I haven’t read it yet!]
Bestseller
by pupeez4eva
M, 8k, wangxian
Summary:  He had written the book to prove a point. It was never supposed to be a big thing, and he certainly never intended for everyone — Jiang Cheng, Zewu-Jun, the Juniors, literally everyone— to be reading about his sex life.
Oh God, he definitely needed to make sure Lan Zhan didn’t find out about this.
(Or, when Wei Wuxian writes the Xianxia cut-sleeve equivalent of Fifty Shades of Grey, based entirely on his experiences with Lan Wangji, he doesn’t expect it to become the next big hit).

I’d like to rec On Your Marks, Get Set, Bake! by @blackwiresgrowonherhead
It’s one of my absolute favorites and I laughed out loud so many times when reading it
on your marks, get set, bake!
by BlackWiresOnHerHead
G, 41k, wei wuxian & juniors
Summary:  Jin Ling resumes thumping on the door to room 721, and the small collection of freshmen starts chanting “Senior Wei! Senior Wei! Senior Wei!” with increasing volume until finally Wei Wuxian opens the door.
“Yes?” he says with his widest, most innocent eyes.
“Senior Wei!” demands Lan Jingyi, shoving himself to the front of the group. “Why didn’t you tell us you’re a contestant on this year’s season of The Great Gusu Bake Off?!?”
--
Several months ago, college student Wei Wuxian secretly competed in the most popular reality show in the country. The show starts airing in the fall. The freshmen in his dorm collectively lose their minds.

My chain hits my chest/When I'm bangin' on the radio

Hey, I hope this isn't too much of a bother as you probably get a lot of messages/requests, but can you recommend some fics with a focus on 1) a plot that includes the juniors being spectators/commentators to wangxian's developing relationship, and also 2) wwx getting hurt and lwj getting scared/angry/vulnerable because of it? thank you!
Hi nonny!
We’re going to answer your first question here because we’ve covered the other ask in another post that’s already in our drafts.
Our recs for “Juniors on Wangxian”:
Canon Compliant
A Dramatic Reading by pupeez4eva (5+K, Not Rated)
(Post-Canon, Humor, In-Universe RPF, Public Confessions, Getting Together)
Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian make out in a room full of Sect Leaders, Jiang Cheng tearfully declares his love for his estranged brother, Sect Leaders Yao and Ouyang beg for the Yiling Patriarch’s forgiveness, and Lan Qiren openly welcomes a new nephew-in-law into his family.
None of them want to be doing any of this. Thanks to the Juniors, they don’t exactly have a choice.
(Or, wherein the Juniors accidentally write a cursed fanfiction, and everyone has to reenact their parts in it, or potentially cease to exist).
Cut sleeve (m/m), slow burn, pining (lots of pining) by Lucky_Moony (6+K, Teen)
(Canon Compliant, In-Universe RPF, Crack, Fluff, Junior Quartet, Zhuiyi)
Nothing to see here, just Lan Jingyi writing fanfiction about his favorite ship: Wangxian.
Or
How Lan Sizhui discovered his best friend was writing romantic stories about his parents.
the spice of life by whats_the_mintTea (10K, Teen)
(Post-Canon, 5+1, Humor, The Juniors ship Wangxian, Getting Together)
Lan Qiren sputters and turns a livid eye towards his nephew. “Oh?” the doctor interjects before the vein on the other’s temple bulges too much, “And what does Wei Wuxian do with his collection of herbs?”
“Cooking,” Lan Wangji responds placidly, though Lan Sizhui notices a tug of his lips upward. “Crude medicines from the roots for emergencies. He also enjoys a bolder flavor that the Cloud Recesses does not supply.”
“Yeah, Wei-qianbei isn’t trying to overthrow the Lan sect gardeners or anything. He just uses his spices to make us sweat or to make tea for Sizhui,” Lan Jingyi adds defensively.
Or, 5 times Wei Wuxian helps his favorite juniors with the power of spice, and 1 time they helped him back.
coming of age, coming alive by narie (16+K, Teen, WIP - 2/3)
(Canon Compliant, Found Family, Juniors, Coming of Age, POV Outsider)
"That Mo Xuanyu," Jingyi grumbled, "I don't like him. He has the thickest face. And he's dishonest, too - he's no more of a lunatic than I am. So why does he keep pretending anyhow?"
Sizhui hummed his acknowledgement. The way their new guest's moods could shift from shrillness to stunned stillness seemed something other than lunacy to him too. "Hanguang-jun trusts him," he said, when the silence between them made it clear Jingyi desired more conversation.
"I know." It was, apparently, a source of deep frustration for him. "I just can't understand why."
The summer they meet Senior Mo, Sizhui breaks the rules against gossiping more than once.

Modern AU
Operation Old Men by chiharu (37+K, Not Rated)
(Modern AU, Boarding School, Single Parents, Juniors, Everyone Lives, Matchmaking, Family Dynamics, Reunion, POV Outsider)
An ill-fated parent teacher conference reunites Jin Ling's wayward uncle with Sizhui's father. AKA: A matchmaking disaster as told by Jin Ling, Sizhui, and Jingyi.
Jin Ling knows he’s in deep trouble even before reporting to Headmaster Lan’s office, but the words “your uncle will be here soon” still strike the fear of God in him. His only consolation is that Jingyi and Sizhui’s guardians are also in the office, Jingyi’s mom already lecturing her sheepish-looking son. Lan-ayi only stops when Sizhui’s father, a quiet and tall man in white, clears his throat, causing her to engage him in one-sided smalltalk.
This is a disaster. Jin Ling had spent such a nice break at home for Mid-Autumn Festival, and Fairy’s presence had soothed his homesickness after returning to boarding school in Gusu. He knows pets aren’t allowed, but who is going to report Jin Ling when his father pays good money for a private suite in the dorms? Then there was the incident with Jingyi, a box of mooncakes, and a door left ajar. Long story short, he spent an hour chasing Fairy down the halls with Sizhui and Jingyi before finding his dog nosing up to a very angry Headmaster Lan.
you're two steps away but i i'll take three steps towards you by chesire (kierenwalkers) (14+K, Teen)
(Modern AU, High School, Fluff, Humor, Bad Matchmaking, Getting Together, Juniors, POV Outsider)
“Can you imagine Lan Wangji riding a motorcycle?” Jin Ling asks. The three of them stare at each other in dead silence. Sizhui shivers. The thought of the ever-stoic Lan Wangji on a motorcycle, complete with a helmet and leather jacket makes the hairs on the back of Jin Ling’s neck prickle.
Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian are, amazingly enough, not together yet despite the loads of sexual tension between them. Fortunately for Lan Jingyi, this means he can play matchmaker. Unfortunately for Jin Ling, this means he's somehow roped into godawful plans.
