george would be very quiet and you would think he hates you at first. he's also quite standoffish and can be blunt or just give super short answers. he loves to start conversations but he either doesn't finish them or makes them so awkward that you end them for your own sake.

this makes you very hesitant to interact with him because you're not sure if he actually dislikes you or if he's fucking with you. overall a very unpleasant confusion.

eventually you confront him and he has no idea he's been coming off that way. he's extremely apologetic and lets it slip how much he actually likes you, and is starting to love you. from then on he makes sure you know just how much he appreciates you.

when you first meet ringo and he's so flirtatious and affectionate and showering you with love, you feel so special and excited inside. but then you see how he acts with everyone else and the joy sort of melts away. seeing him be even more passionate with strangers makes you feel quite foolish.

you go very quiet and try to keep to yourself around him, giving one word answers, prematurely ending conversations, etc. you know you're probably overreacting a little bit but you comfort your choices by reminding yourself that he's literally a celebrity and meets thousands of people just like you.

So, after posting my fancast the other day, we have finally arrived at the OCs that go with it!! Honestly, I’m so excited to share these babies with you guys; Monster High was one of my first hyperfixations ever, and despite how long it’s been since I properly interacted with it, I’ve never stopped loving it. So without further ado, please observe my beautiful freaky babies!!

(Also gonna tag my beloveds @manyfandomocs and @ginevrastilinski-ocs, because I know they’ve been waiting for this!! <3)

Nyx Darkfeather, a fallen angel, Jackson/Holt ship. The daughter of two angels who fell from Heaven. A new student at Monster High because her parents homeschooled her for a long time, scared of her being hurt for what she is since fallen angels are so rare. Very stone-faced, blunt, and closed-off, but eventually gets pulled into Frankie’s friend group after they make it their mission to befriend her, and winds up slowly being endeared by Jackson and Holt. Pretty powerful as the child of two angels, with umbrakinesis and some psychic powers, but she doesn’t use them very often. Also becomes besties with Twyla, since they’re both very used to the shadows.

Aiko Inoue, daughter of the Slit-Mouthed Women, Deuce ship. An exchange student from Japan who eventually decides to stay and learn at Monster High. Kind of has a bad reputation at first because of her mother and how quiet she is, but eventually people start to warm up to her. Gets close to Deuce after she gets assigned to tutor him in History of the Undead shortly after he and Cleo break up, and they eventually wind up becoming a super cute couple. Intensely shy and awkward and often uses her spirit powers to turn invisible or disappear for long periods of time, but also very caring and loyal. Becomes really good friends with the hybrids, especially Neighthan and Serena.

Chester Hoppington, a wererabbit, Gil ship. Only attends Monster High in person part-time because he cares for his eight younger siblings while his parents work. An incredible artist who meets Gil when he decides to go swimming in the school pool while Chester is there doing a drawing of the water. Incredibly sweet and caring as a result of having to be a babysitter so often, but also surprisingly stubborn and never afraid to speak out for the people he cares about. Has bunny ears and a little tail, and also has a habit of rapidly tapping his feet when he’s frustrated or angry. Eventually gets pulled into the ghouls’ friendship, and even becomes really good friends with Lagoona despite her and Gil being exes.

Matthew Steam, a robot, Frankie ship. Robecca’s “twin” brother since Hezekiah built them at the same time, and got dismantled shortly after her when he tried to confront the Gargoyles about what they did to her. A lot more socially awkward than his sister, but surprisingly adjusts to modern life a lot easier because he was always more interested in science and mechanics and he gets incredibly excited about all the new advancements. A total nerd who goes on a lot of excited rants about his interests, which Frankie is only too happy to listen to. Also an iconic sibling duo with Robecca.

Bonita Calaveras, a skeleton, Heath ship. Skelita’s older sister by eleven months, so they’ve always been in the same school year. Does the transfer with her sister and Jinafire, because she’s always seen it as her job to protect Skelita. Tries to keep Heath away from Skelita when she learns how much of a flirt he is, but just winds up falling for him instead. Fiercely loving and protective of those she cares about, but also sometimes forgets to take care of herself. The best sibling duo with Skelita, and also comes really good friends with Jinafire because they enjoy judging people together.

Dabria Yelps, a zombie, Draculaura ship. Ghoulia’s younger sibling who uses they/she pronouns, and definitely the more creativity-minded of the two; an incredible writer who wants to publish romance novels one day. Also a hopeless lesbian who falls in love with Draculaura almost the moment they meet her, but it takes a while for them to get together because Draculaura still needs to get over her breakup with Clawd and Dabira is way too awkward to properly confess for the longest time. She’s also best friends with Howleen and Twyla, and kinda goes through it for a bit during the whole Shadow Genie ordeal.

Gaia Nature, child of Mother Nature, Abbey ship. Homeschooled in the forest for a good portion of their life, but finally allowed to attend Monster High because they’ve always wanted to meet more kids their age. A total and complete sweetheart because they’ve always been taught to be kind to all living creatures, but also tends to be kind of naïve and overly trusting because they haven’t really been around actual people very much. They and Abbey are a total opposites attract couple, but Abbey is very soft for them and also manages to toughen them up a bit, so they work very well together. Definitely besties with Rochelle, Robecca, and Venus, and frequently teams up with Venus on environment-saving endeavors.

Chord Nightingale, a siren, Manny ship. Head of the Monster High choir, which Manny is forced to join as a punishment from Headmistress Bloodgood after beating up another student. Totally outgoing and sunshiney, which doesn’t allow him to get long with Manny at first. Mostly confident but also scared of ever accidentally enchanting someone with his siren song after an incident that happened when he was a kid that he’s never told anyone about. Eventually grows close to Manny and the two of them start to open up to each other, until they finally get together. Doesn’t really have many friends despite being a social butterfly, but eventually becomes pretty close with the ghost crew - Operetta, Scarah, Serena, and Johnny Spirit - and they become kind of an iconic group.

So uh... I binged through a first run of Our Life: Beginning and Always last night and today. The free base game, no additional DLC. And I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT.

As I do for all otomes/romance games, I played blindly and made the choices I liked most on a first run, practically never reloading to pick different outcomes. I also strived to make the MC as close to me in terms of appearance/personality/etc. as possible, since that was an option here.

If anyone’s curious, I went for direct indifference at step one (since I barely knew/cared about Cove at first and have always been rather honest/blunt about my feelings), then direct fondness step 2 (it definitely felt like we were friends by the end of step 1, so...), then nervous crush step 3. I definitely wanted a romantic (or possibly never-acted upon romantic) ending, and after everyone teasing/implying the relationship was like that or heading in that direction, combined with Cove repeatedly sneaking into MC’s room it felt like the right time.

I went nervous because, well, developing feelings for a friend is bound to make things super awkward and leave you feeling less comfortable. I noticed that starting in step 3 people starting calling Jamie shy and reserved, and I’m not sure if that’s a result of me picking nervous (because I was under the impression those choices only related to how she related to Cove but maybe I’m wrong) or my prior choices of mostly being non-confrontational and passive led to that.

I had decided immediately I WAS NOT going to confess to him, because realistically I’d never risk sabotaging a friendship like that. I played MC often getting flustered but happy when Cove flirted with her and very occasionally made somewhat flirty banter myself, but I shied away from strong advances and never told him how I felt when presented the opportunity.

When our friends were “fighting” and things got heated, I rode things out and managed to calm him down. I finally told him about the $20 deal his dad had given me afterward, and thankfully he laughed it off. I’m sure in earlier steps he might not have been so receptive to that truth, so I took it as a sign of his growth and also how close we’d gotten.

I actually got a seemingly rare outcome of Cove confessing to me at the end of step 3 - it’s about 20% achieved on Steam and there are at least 3 different threads on the forum asking how to get the outcome I literally got blindly. It was an outcome I was VERY happy with, though I was wondering while playing (and still wonder now) if it’s possible to create a scenario where there are clearly mutual feelings that both parties just NEVER confess to, for fear of ruining what they already have.

Since they ended off step 3 officially together (although I had MC going a little ways away for college, which made things pretty bittersweet, especially since she and Cove had FINALLY gotten together only two days prior) I used “relaxed love” for step 4 since I knew it would take place several years later. I figure after several years of dating you’d be entirely committed and casual/comfortable with your SO. I didn’t have them living together, but it was still obvious how close and cozy they were, which I loved. There were so many emotional/physical intimate moments in this step that cemented how happy they were together. There was much cuddling, hand-holding, and a little more on occasion to be had.

And to end things perfectly Cove proposed and we told literally all our friends and family. Which was sweet, albeit incredibly embarrassing. I had tried to play MC as “neutrally” towards marriage as possible since that’s my honest feelings. For me the important thing is being together and marriage doesn’t really change that, but I’m not opposed to it either.

I honestly LOVE how Cove remained so emotional and soft as he grew up. I know my choices impact his personality and appearance so I’m not sure how much of this was set in stone versus my choices affecting things, but he was a crybaby to the end and struggled SO HARD to confess and then to propose but that was honestly real and wonderful. “My” Cove was more studious than sporty, never ditched his glasses (though he often took them off), cut his hair a bit shorter in 3 only to grow it back longer than ever in 4, and patched his relationship up with his parents over time to the point that he was VERY close and loving with them both in the end. He was more slender than buff (which suited me fine), though he was still very into surfing and his ORCA responsibilities.

He was flawed, but he was perfect to me. I imagine many players went a very similar route to me and got nearly identical outcomes in terms of most of the major plot beats - though maybe they were brave enough to confess, or perhaps their Cove was more sporty than studious. My path just felt VERY organic and natural as they went from strangers to friends to potentially-more to happily committed to each other.

I absolutely intend to replay this again, and with the steps 1-3 DLC for much more content. There are so many variations I’m looking forward to trying. The fact that the base game is free is honestly stunning because I would happily pay 20, 30 bucks for it. I can already tell it has SO MUCH replay value, though I do wonder how much all the choices really matter. Outside of setting your preferences and obviously major decisions (like telling Cove about The Deal or whether to confess your feelings), a lot of them feel like they might just slightly change a specific conversation, but on the other hand there are some choices that SEEM relatively innocuous but have far-reaching consequences or at least callbacks/in-jokes.

I look forward to seeing how much Cove as a person changes in subsequent playthroughs and how much his dynamic with Jamie can be altered at every step. So glad I gave this game a try and I can’t recommend it enough - especially since the base game is free, so anyone can try it without spending a dime! If you give this game your time and love, it has SO MUCH potential content and love to give back to you.

Hello everyone, I am back from the dead with my 6th yaoi review. Today it will be the manhwa, The Dangerous Convenience Store by 945 or Gusao. There will be spoilers for the entirety of the series so please be warned.

First off, I loved this manhwa so much. The story I would give a solid 8/10. It has around 88 chapters, so it was kind of long with bonus chapters, but it was very enjoyable the whole way through. I could really tell how much 945 cared about the story and put many things in place to call back to as the story progressed. My favorite part has to be the chapters in Bum Geon Woo's perspective. When you find out that he was coming to the convenience store so often just to see Yeo Eui Joon was so CUTE! It was also cute that when we was reunited with him later after so long that he came up with anything to keep in contact with him like the money that Eui Joon owed him and adding interest when he tried to pay it back lol. I also really loved that every thing would come around full circle like that at first Geonwoo and Eui Joon met at the convenience store he worked at and then after not seeing eachother for years they finally met at another convenience store. I LOVED Geon Woo, he is a solid 8.5/10 character for me. He was always so sweet and I understood why he would make the choices that he did. While, I understood that he was just trying to protect Eui Joon(8/10), I still think he should have trusted him more and would be more communicative. ESPECIALLY, with him disappearing for almost FOUR years without a word and still refused to go into it when he returned! You can't be surprised that things didn't go exactly back to normal after what my poor boy went through. Though, I loved that Geon Woo always would do whatever he could to try and be with Eui Joon. He's very blunt, but was so caring to him and the fact that he could always tell when he was upset even when he couldn't see him physically was so nice. He also was so understanding of Eui Joon's feelings and was almost never upset with him, it's very nice to see from a seme for once. I'll stop my gushing over Geon Woo now lol. The art is a solid 8/10 with some scenes being a little awkward looking, but I still very much liked the art and character designs. I absolutely adored the chibi art moments, they were just so adorable! Also, even though they weren't in the story super often, I really liked Eui Joon's friends Kim TaeYoung and JuYeon(8/10). They were always super supportive and just wanted to look out for him. The kind of friends everyone needs. Yoon HyunWoo(1/10) and Eui Joon's ex-boyfriend(-50/10) that he gets later in the story sucked so bad. Poor Eui Joon is really bad at picking good guys besides Geon Woo. So, because of this I really do understand why Eui Joon is so cautious with Geon Woo because he doesn't want to be hurt more than he already does. That is something I like about him a lot is that when he is done with someone he is DONE. Now, Cha Jaehyun was also a solid 8.5/10 character. He was nice and funny and I really felt bad for him that he just never felt recognized for himself and he just always compared to others and not seen as good enough. He is just a very likeable person to me, besides of course his first meeting with Eui Joon as that was fucked up. Eui Joon's brother Yeo Eui Hyeon(8.5/10) was so cute and supportive too. The most tense time for me was when Geonwoo confronted Eui Joon about his kiss with Cha Jaehyun. I was so scared that there would be a horrible misunderstanding and it would delay them getting together even longer! Seeing Eui Joon panicking and so desperate to explain himself was so sad. The absolute cutest line was in chapter 52 after the get together and Eui Joon mentions how he is nervous but mentions how calm Geon Woo always seems and then Geon Woo says in return, "I've never been calm around you." My only issue was that the gap of time that Geon Woo was gone for felt like it brushed past some pretty major events especially like his brother finally waking up from his coma. It was so sad to see that Eui Joon held onto Geon Woo's flowers for over a year. Side note: did anyone else notice that they really started putting in more feet shots in the latter half of this manhwa lol? Anyways, comment thoughts on this manhwa too.

Sometimes you’ll have little “sleepovers” and you’ll hangout at the cave. Usually this means sharing a joint and watching her play songs on her guitar

She’s definitely not exclusively playing romantic songs for you

One night she’ll get high and just pour her heart out to you

“And I think you’re one of the coolest people I’ve ever met, and I’ve met a lot of people, babe… And sure, I’m definitely a bit ditzy but I’m not completely stupid! I know you don’t believe me, but I really really like you! I think about you a lot and I hate when you have to leave right before the sun rises. And on nights you can’t hangout with us it’s so boring! We do the same things every night, but you always make them special. I really like you babe… I really really like you…”

She’ll wanna take you out on a little date to one of the small bands playing on the boardwalk and you’ll both dance together and she’ll be real giddy and excited and probably kiss you but it’s really messy and quick because she was just so wrapped up in the music!

She’ll try to not-so-subtly follow you around. She’s not being creepy, but she just wants to admire your beauty

You’ll eventually confront her and ask what her deal is

She’s bad at coming up with an alibi

She’s going to do some dumb things to impress you— racing on her bike, getting more piercings, dressing in lots of leather, offering to buy you food— but you think it’s cute

She’ll follow you around like a lost puppy at times, partially cause she’s new in town

Sam likes you though!

When you and Michelle hangout, you’ve usally got the braincell and you don’t tease Sam for liking comics so much

“No Samantha, I’m not taking you to the comic shop” “Aww Sammy I will!” “Thanks (Y/N)! You’re the best”

Honestly you knew the whole time she liked you! You had moments of doubt but she’s always so obvious about it. Once you even swore she drooled over you

A bit gross, but you were also eating ice cream so…

Visiting her at work! She’s a lifeguard down at the beach! She’s definitely trying to get you visit her ;) and go swim and sunbathe ;) maybe have her “perform cpr” on you ;)

But you’d still have to make the first move if you wanted it to go any further

He’s got this aura of mystery around him 

But he’ll steal glances if he spots you in the crowd, thinking you’re cute

The lost girls will want him to bring you back to the cave

He will, but not for awhile

Sebastian will offer to pierce your ears and paint your nails 

Night swimming together! 

Sebastian definitely has really floral swim trunks, almost like tacky dad Hawaiian shirt print 

He’ll do the thing where he’s under water for a long time and then jump up and scare you

Once you meet the girls you’re all playing games together like sharks and minnows, chicken

Sebastian always wants to team up with you though. Even if teams aren’t a part of the game

He likes to read. He’ll spend a good amount of time at the bookstore on the boardwalk, staying there for hours reading books, and leaving with a whole stack

If YOU have a book he wants to read/borrow he will definitely maybe leave a little sticky note in it as a thank you

Laura will love you!! 

She’s very close to Sebastian and everyone thinks they’re siblings, and they most definitely have the dynamic 

So if Laura likes you, Sebastian will definitely like you. I mean, he already does, Laura just kind of seals the deal, ya know?

Dominique and Pauline will be the most blunt about Sebastian’s feelings for you

“He’s like Darcy. Not necessarily the most obvious but you can tell” 

“It’s so obvious. He like, talks about you all the time when you aren’t around and he’s got this real love sick look in his eyes”

Dominique is going to interrogate you to see if you’re “worthy” or not of Sebastian. 

“Sebastian is my— our friend— like a brother almost. Hurt him and I will kill you :) that is a promise” 

Once she deems you good enough she’s going to push Seb into asking you out. “You guys already go on enough ‘dates’ just make it official” “no” “-_-“ “hhh fine”

Sebastian is going to be really simple with it but also kind of coy and shy. He’s nervous. He’s much rather you asked him out or confessed your feelings but he’s willing to go first. He finds himself trying to compete and keep up with the girls. He’s the only boy, and while it may not matter he doesn’t want to seem weak and pathetic while they’re big strong vampires

Anyway once he tells you how he feels he’s all red in the face and nervous!! Poor boy

He’ll constantly ask to kiss you all the time, worried maybe you don’t want him to but you’re always reassuring “yes, Seb. you can have a kiss” “thank you”

OK KO Reviews: Back In Red Action

As you can probably tell by the fact Red Action week started 4 days ago my schedule slipped a bit, with a bunch of unexpected stuff, an expected job for a friend, and a day of laziness with the isle of armor meant I never got around to writing it. As such i’ve decided to play catchup.. all 3 reviews, HOPEFULLY all in one day. And yes 3 as I decided to cut Plaza Prom for a number of reasons: It’s not all that necessary, I was doing it more for myself, and if I find time before or after pride ends, I can easily cover it in isolation, so being done in a timely manner isn’t an issue like it is for the red action ones, or the other three pride month reviews I have planned after red action week. So witht hat dust settled let’s talk about Enid.  While I went on about Enid a LOT last time, for good reason, a LOT has happened since episode 3 as you’d probably guess, episodes I will cover in the future because enid is awesoeme. And the two episodes that built her up a bit had plaza prom as the creamy filling for that airing sandwitch, and were unsuprisingly good. But since we’re not covering them just yet Enid confronted her ex best friend and dealt with her and rad’s bumpy past, and that coupled with our previous episodes and some others have melted down her walls a bit. She’s still a bit distant, and still terrible at her job as ever, but she’s grown as a person and grown past her past. Now it’s her turn to do what K.O. has done for her, he was inttrumental in getting her to stop ignoring Elodie and confront her, for someone else. Let’s recap this.  back in red action under the cut...

We open with a normal day at the Plaza and Enid’s alone, with K.O. offscreen and Rad not in this episode so he’s not around and Gar clearly gone or else he’d be yelling at enid probably.  Enid’s checking around on her phone and after checking to see if anyone’s there, once again decides to look at Red’s social because that’s not creepy. But Enid browses it wondering why Red came here in the first place, figuring there’s probably better food, better this , better that and trips up on a picture of Red with her old girlfriend, Yellow Technique.. and yeah i’m not beating around the bush, while they never come right out and SAY IT, the episode contextualizes things as such. I Mean granted given my shipping habits on this blog, you can see i’m willing to ship plenty of kids together, and even then only in a “Awww” holding hands, maybe an awkard kiss way, and am a shipping monster who has plenty, but here i have no horse in this race, it’s just really obvious subtext. 

Anyways enough Cul De Sacs, Enid sees a new picture... Red taking a selfie with an unaware Enid.. and who probably just heard Enid’s last few sentences and at the very least dosen’t care. After a flirty “Hey Ya” and enid awkardly hiding her phone, Red buys some gum for cover then invites Enid to hang out for the afternoon then leaves.  Then KO pops up out of nowhere hilariously, and for his only scene this episode to gush about Enid’s sorta date, though Enid is paranoid it’s just a setup for some sorta joke or prank.. which given that red was willing to set a child on fire while her friend spanked him because that’s not weird at all, yeah kinda a good point, even if she’s ignoring the obvious signals that, for once, Red seems to be genuine. She WAS a bit awkward at times during asking her out, pausing or stammering, she just quickly recovered. But it also shows the downside, if breifly to red’s kind of life: If your an ass to everybody, even people who genuinely like you may worry your just messing with them. 

But when Enid goes to return the gum, she finds Red not only waiting but ninja snatching the gum.. and doing that to a NINJA takes skill. Top notch. Enid realizing this isn’t a prank holy fuck her crush really did ask her out out of nowhere, suggests a few things before Red shoots them down gently and revealz their going crusing. She also has enid turn her back and cover her ears while she summons her submarine.. using a sentai/power rangers set of poses and summon chant, as you do.  With their ride here and enid buckeled into Red’s Submarine, and Red dodging any questions Enid has about her past , you know, the oppsitie of normal first date behavior. Everyone knows your supposed to talk a lot, get them coffee, look deep in her eyes and tell her about your family, hold hands then shoot cocaine into your eyes and rock a buglarly. 

But no instead of any of that Red has something just as romantic and dangerous planned their going high into the...

Which, befiting this wonderful show, is an actual place that’s full of explosions, maurading gangs and dinosaurs.. I mean every place is full of dinosaurs but this place has extra dinosaurs. It’s like the savage land if it didn’t annoy me as a setting. So the two cruise on exotica style, though in a great bit Red keeps enid from unbuckling, and when asked about her past again Red dodges and instead takes them down thunder road, where the lightining strikes.... I.. I can’t stop waxing lyircal this review. Help.  On thunder road the two share a moment when both go up top and see how damn pretty the place is, what with all the glowing orbs, Red gets electrocuted and both look at each other lovingly at diffrent points with that faded light effect, you know the one. I”d name it jeremy but it definitely has a name. The two really bond and it’s telling that it’s those moments where things go well: Enid’s not nervously trying to ask first date questions, if not wrongfully and Red isn’t running from them. Their just two teenagers attracted to one another getting to know you getting to know all about you.. getting to know if you like me.  Anyways, enough of my nonsense that’s now clearly a medical condition, Red’s old friends show up to spoil the mood, with Red brushing them off as performance artists, and a chase insues.. and it’s really well done. I’ll get into this more in a minute. The two max max race, Enid gets into the cockpit and makes good use of it as it’s just like shooting womp rats back home. With help from red, they manage to get two of the hue troop cars to collide and the two hide behind a sign despite it telling them not to back to the future style. It’s here we get into the heart of the episode and what makes it really work for me: For most of the season, before and though not as often after this, Enid’s been standofish even to people she cares about, blunt and hard to get to open up. But the two incidents I mentoined last time that caused her to harden her heart and swallow her tears... got some closure in thos enidcentric eps. IN short Elodie returned and Enid tried to act like it didn’t bother her and Elodie throwing their relationship away like hot garbage for her own admitssion into point and then came back smug as ever, but KO once again got through to her and convinced her that she needed to face her and in a stunning action sequence, i’ll gush about it more when I review the episode eventually she whalloped her and got closure, even if Elodie was ssitll super popular. She then patched things up with rad after Cupid showed up to force her and rad on a date to deal with their sexual tension since Rad went on one with her in middle school that went terribly because rad listend to his friends and his friends are obnoxious piles of toxic masculinty who sucked and were not unsuprisngly phased out of most of season 2 aside from the one episode they were needed and only showed up in season 3 for rad to tell them off. It went poorly, Enid nearly died and Rad saved her and apologized for being a dick, taking the two from would be exes who are understandibly bitter to best friends at long last. 

So Enid’s healed some of her wounds.. sure she’s still standoffish.. but she’s finally opening up and letting the right ones in. And now it’s Red’s turn. Red has the same problem: She dosen’t hide but she does run or scream at issues, and as someone who tends to be quick to anger I totally understand that, a tendency to lash out due to some other thing bothering you even when the person did nothing wrong. But her crush, and now possible relationship with, Enid gets Red to finally stop dodging Enid’s questions and open up and we get Red, and her friends Backstory Red and Friends are The Hue Troop, a group of warriors founded by a woman who long ago found a powerful prisim that linked to the mysterious Zordon-like alien Ren-Bow, a precog who could sense oncoming disasters and thus empowered the woman and her 4 friends with attitude to  stop them. Like Minority Report meets Power Rangers but the Minioirty Report part actually works. And like civil war 2 if the leaders of both factions weren’t douchebags especially you Carol. But given the fight is eternal they pased their powers on generation after generation , and it was Red and co’s turn. But Red chafed at being part of a team, wearing uniforms, following orders from a rock, doing sily poses, which came to a boil when she accidently, truly accidently broke the Prisim and rather than face up to what she’d done, ran for it and thus ended up here, hiding from her past in the past.  It’s also revealed Enid’s one way crush on her is not one way. Red had also been stalking HER social media, like Enid too intimidated to make a move before now, though we DO have an explination for what changed things coming. She liked how unlike Red enid had her own style, moves and a disregard for authority. it also frankly explains a lot about Red.  spent her whole life probably, given we see what could be a kid version of red or red’s mom in the finale, preparing to be a hue trooper, given the whole generational thing i’m theorizing the Hue Troop we see are the kids of either the first gen hue troop or the second, the flashback also supporting this. Her whole life being what other people told her to be, following orders doing poses.. not being her own woman. So when being forced to turn fugitive meant she had to hide, it also meant she was free to do what she want, and went about it in the worst way: being rude to people and lashing out at them because she could, only spearing the girl she found cute and her two friends, who went along with the beahavior likely due to both liking red and being deeply insecure themselves as we saw last time, from her obnoxiousness. Even if it wasn’t a generational thing, I still supset the pressure of having to be part of a regimented group drained her and rather than talk about it she likely just avoided it like she tends to do.. and like ENID tends to do.. So it’s says something for Enid’s own development when she encourages Red, who also asked her out since Red figured shed idn’t have much time left, to STOP RUNNING and face her problems.. and punch them in the face.

Yellow shows up right as Red agrees, and a fight breaks out.. and a damn good one. I put a pin in this earlier, but the shows battle scenes, vechicalr and man to mand, are utterly gorgeous, well coregraphed and part of why I belive the animation style is so simplified. Besides allowing for the necessarily unique background cast, it also means that when it’s time for an action scene they can go balls out and give it everything without the episodes taking as long as say steven universe or a disney show.And it shows as even this brief fight is tense, well done and full of emotion as Red’s ex and her former friends fight Red and her new girlfriend with both sides having every reason to go at it. It’s crimnally cut short when a metor hits.. the same metor delivers the crystal. While the rest of the Hue Troop instantly realize this and run, Red dosen’t because it was in the distant past.. and in a great move Enid has to tell her dumbass girlfriend that they ARE in HER past. They run, Red is hit and we get the cover image for the shippers and to make it CRYSTAL CLEAR that yes this was a date. They didn’t steal a few picassos while on a sexy date heist but still. 

Also  Red stole the crystal, and her friends assume it was her plan all along. Red almost takes credit for it.. but a glare from Enid shoots that plan down and Red, once again genuinely opens up, apologizing for running from them and her problems,and implicitly hurting Yellow, as while they clearly aren’t together anymore, either due to this or other shenanigans, it still had to hurt what red did. She also thanks Enid for being the one to show her the error of her ways. that being said with a fresh prisim, it’s just as likely that the Hue Troop can now clone it and get a copy back to the past for Red to be her own grandma, as I theroize given the finale again and all and red still being around.. more on that nexttime, the troop have a working prisim till then. They part as friends with the rest of the troop encoourging enid to visit sometime and Yellow giving her approval and getting her own closure as the troop leaves.  And so we end as Red and Enid decide to resume their everything but saying it’s a date date and go Lava Surfing as they drive out into the sunset. THE END.

Final Thoughts: Just as good on rewatch as the first time around and a great ep, not just for the LBGTQ rep, as while I belivie we’ve seen a bi flag sticker on enid’s bike helmet at this point, and would in all future appearances of it and she’d later stick one on her flying motorcycle she gets in the last season, and there was subetext with elody and red and text with rad, this showed she was a bisexual beyond any shadow of a doubt and did everything short of having them kiss, that comes later, to confirm it. But besides being one of the series delightfully gayest episodes, it has good story, good charcter progression for enid as we see how far she’s come from those early episodes, and Red gets a good character arc that both explains her past actions and has her grows as a person. And we’ll see more of this next time as we hit 88 miles per hour and Red Action to the Future. My Thoughts on the Potential Personality of a Certain Pharaoh We Never Met

Hey guys...It’s been a while since I wrote something about YGO specifically and well since that is the main focus of this blog, I thought I’d create another discussion. 

This particular tidbit (more like a brain fart to be completely honest) is from scrolling through this website and other social media pages and therefore stumbling on the fandom making their theories and headcanons on what Atem’s true personality is. I think we have all seen the jokes on how we as a fandom like to write him off as this super gay, suave, smooth talking, prideful king. The counter argument I often see is that he is socially awkward, fumbling serial killer, with an identity crisis. All of these claims tend to be backed up by people recalling numerous amounts of the original source material from Mr. Takahashi, but sometimes I wonder what could have been. 

Popular headcanons asides (that means we are not using any ships and/or made up assumptions with no basis), let’s talk about this for a minute. What has Kazuki provided and what can we assume about Atem’s actual character. Despite being a 200+ episode anime, several movies, and over 30 volumes of manga, our favorite author has left a lot to be desired from this guy. Once we’ve discussed the material, I’ll make a personal evaluation of what Atem could have been like had we been able to meet him after he had retrieved all his memories.

Okay so perhaps the fandom is right about one thing, Atem started out as a borderline serial killer. Well, according to the manga, he has got quite a bit of red on his ledger with multiple violent injuries/deaths by his hands.

Right at the moment Atem’s spirit was reawakened by Yugi completing the Millennium Puzzle, we have an individual very determined to protect his vessel at any cost. Of course not without his own enjoyment in participating in his “Dark Games”. So we can tell Atem is very protective of Yugi, his group of friends, and generally any other innocent bystanders. We can argue he is a little over protective via his deadly methods but I guess it’s the thought that counts right?

Luckily for Atem’s victims, he stops his magically mind-fucking bullshit after the Duelist Kingdom arc. He never explains why he stops. Perhaps it has to do with his development as a character to not be as ruthless in an attempt to comfort Yugi.  

One attribute Atem does not lose throughout the series is when confronted with any sort of enemy, we see Atem is very confident in his abilities. Another thing the fandom got right is well... he is quite the smooth talker. Despite being from a completely different era, this guy always knows what to say to enemies and rivals alike. Not to mention his motivational speeches to his friends are always quite powerful. If anything I would almost consider Atem a bit of a life coach. He more or less helped raise Yugi and company into the individuals they become. 

Along with giving everyone their moments of support, Atem does a pretty good job blending in with modern society despite being locked up in his own head for thousands of years. I find some individuals, thinking Atem is a complete fumbling socially awkward dork and well, maybe not so much. Sure he has his moments, I think we can all look back on the ‘Date’ episode, but we have to look at which version we are watching/reading. For the sake of accuracy I tend to interpret the Japanese material as it is closest to the manga. As I said, Atem isn’t perfect, he can be very blunt to people when they ask him for an opinion (or telling people it’s the end of the world if he doesn’t win a card game), but I certainly wouldn’t consider him completely ‘socially awkward’ in general. 

But honestly that can be a whole other essay and I’m just talking about basic character traits overall. Now let us discuss some of Atem’s flaws.

So to make things easier, let us list the flaws as they appeared in both manga and anime:

When Shadi was first introduced to us (manga), we got a glimpse of seeing our favorite dark spirit sweat in the heat of a shadow game. It was revealed that Atem knew little of his true identity and sharing a Yugi’s body meant, that the two would share each others emotions. Moreover, this spirit had fears and doubts just like the rest of us.

As time passes we see more of Atem’s doubts emerge as he becomes more comfortable with Yugi and company, and therefore he expresses his confusion about his past. Where did he come from and who is he and such. This guy needs to have a sense of purpose and being Yugi’s guardian is fine, but at the end of the day, it would be best for him to become his own person.

There is another interaction in the manga (and in the Japanese version of the anime) that I found interesting. When Atem addresses this identity issue and whether his time on this plain is limited, Yugi kind pushes it off as something he doesn’t want to think about. The kid does it again (god I can’t remember exactly which arc this is, I wanna say DOMA), Atem mentions the issue and Yugi says “You can have my memories”. 

For fans of the pairing (to be honest I’m a boring canon-ish shipper so not my cup of tea, but I get it...this scene is pretty gay) this moment is viewed as tender love and care but I can’t help but notice a pattern and another character flaw. We have a guy with no memories of his own and having an identity crisis but every time he wants to discuss this issue, his best friend tends to push it away. I understand Yugi’s reasoning, that Atem is basically the catalyst for all the good things to happen in his life, but the constant ignoring of the problem for the first half of the series is borderline toxic. Furthermore, it shows Atem is a bit of an enabler when it comes to Yugi. Unlike Joey who loudly addresses the behavior to Atem’s face, Yugi finds comfort in it and for both of them it only makes the journey harder for them in moments of separation.

Just something I thought I’d bring up since I don’t see a lot of people talking about moments of toxicity in this friendship. Not that it is a bad thing, I find it quite interesting and realistic. Not all relationships with people are perfect.

Last by certainly not least, Atem’s biggest character flaw, is he is one prideful son of a bitch. Yes, I said it. He likes to complain a lot about his rival (Kaiba) about the characteristic when he is also guilty of it. It’s always duelist pride this and duelist pride that, when a lot of the times this bullshit is what almost gets people killed. Atem’s pride kind of ties in with the ruthlessness of his character, where in the ride to victory he sometimes forgets the people he defeats are still humans beings. Take the incident with Arkana, it took Yugi switching back to keep the guy from getting his legs cut off. (Move out the way Jigsaw, Atem is gunning for your spot.) 

But his pride works against him when individuals such as Yami Bakura and Dartz use their words to question his morality. What would Atem do just to obtain victory? While our hero tends to grow from these experiences and beat the bad guys in the end, it does not negate the fact that the pharaoh’s greatest strength also tends to be his greatest weakness.

Okay so I’ve gotten most of Atem’s characteristics down pat before he retrieves his memories. In summary here is a list of some of his qualities I’ve gathered from the source material.

PROS

-protective & caring nature

-generally is confident in his abilities

-good with his words, knowing when to pick someone up and put his enemies down

-Adapts to modern customs and his friends pretty well, especially for someone locked up in a pendant for so long

-easily takes a leadership role (probably a projection of his kingship past) although he is often humble about his status as pharaoh

-his pride keeps his head held high and rises above all challenges

CONS

-let’s be real the guy is incredibly blunt (this could be a pro or con depending on preference)

-can be an enabler to Yugi at times

-ruthless nature (let’s be real his kill count is like 5+ people in the manga, probably more)

-has an overall identity crisis

-tends to put others above himself, which at times can be toxic or detrimental to his character

-his own pride can be used against him, placing fear and doubt into his mind (DOMA was a great example of this)

I feel like every time Takahashi draws him in a new movie, he just adds more flair and muscles (not that I’m complaining)

So now we come to a head and the big question is what are we missing out on? Perhaps one of the reasons Yu-Gi-Oh DM has so much fanfiction and forums about it is the general sense of emptiness the ending of the series left behind. I think dub Tea put it best, (these are not the exact words, I’ve already spent an hour writing this) Atem was leaving us just as we were getting to know him. Finally a season where we get to see him as his own character, and honestly him fighting bad guys and dying for it, was not the way a lot of us would have wanted to see him go. Instead he comes back to duel Yugi but Atem feels so stiff and mysterious. The guy doesn’t even talk to the poor girl crying in front of him. This isn’t a guy who just wanted to up and leave from the get go. But now that he got the information he wanted, suddenly he just says fuck it and gives a thumbs up walking into the light? Nah. I’m sorry to say the Yu-Gi-Oh is not on my top list of anime endings, but it can be one of saddest. 

I often wonder time and time again, what would have Atem been like around his friends. Maybe he would have more of a sense of humor (like he was with Mana). Would he have more wisdom? Would he be more charming? These are just a few question I and many others have about our favorite pharaoh. But hey that’s what we have headcanons for right?

Now some of you may be wondering, especially as a fanfic writer, what are my own headcanons about Atem? As I mentioned before I guess you can say I’m boring, I prefer canon-ish ships and I try to keep my headcanons as much in line with the source material as I can. Of course I add a tad of my own flair to it so it isn’t completely the same. If anything I try to fix so of the errors I see in the original. 

My headcanon for Atem (post memories): A lot of the qualities I mentioned before would most likely remain the same, if not positively amplified. He certainly wouldn’t be as ruthless as he used to be, the anime/manga has shown his growth from that. He would definitely still be very protective of those he cared about. Although I can’t help but think that after remembering his past, he would carry himself in a regal manner. Possibly even without him noticing because he was raised from birth to become a king. Considering the strong connection with his father, I can see the guy having a keen sense for family bonding, perhaps even wanting one of his own. It is traditional for pharaoh to want to pass on their legacy. I’m also sure we all like to think the guy would be incredibly charming, considering how he always seems to know exactly what to say. Although he would still be blunt with his statements, he isn’t one to lie or hold back. If you ask Atem a question you will get the truth and the honest truth. Pride and honesty are incredibly important to him. While he respects honesty, I can imagine he would like to keep personal matters to himself and not worry others. If anything he would rather stay quiet than create a lie. Lastly considering how humble he tends to be with the people around him and how he values everyone as equals, I can see Atem being very open-minded to try new things and explore various ideologies. He would not judge, or have prejudice. He would be accepting and encourage others to be who they are as long as they were good people.

 Okay so maybe he would be low-key nervous around pets lol.

Jack Irons it Out

Disclaimer:  the story below is fiction.  While inspired by real people, it is not a real account of any actual events, places, dialogues, or situations, just my imagined version of how life might have been for these guys during the Vitalogy era (although there may be some time travel in later chapters).  Also, yes, I know that in reality Stone had short hair at this point, but in my fiction world, it will always be long.  Just let me have this.  :-)

Chapter 1 of "Some Words When Spoken . . . “

“Whoa, guys!  Seriously?  Can we deal with this like adults?”  

Jack slammed his drum sticks down on the snare, causing an abrupt and surprisingly loud silence to fill the studio.  He looked at his new bandmates in exasperation.  “I can’t work like this.  If you two have a beef with each other, can you please just air it out so we can get on with it?”  His head turned firmly from Eddie to Stone, and then back to Eddie, leaving no question on who he meant by “you two.”  

A smattering of electrified guitar sounds, the clearing of a throat, the folding of arms, and several flips of long brown hair were the only response.  

Finally a chuckle from Jeff, who turned to Jack and nodded. “I agree,” he announced, and unstrapped his bass and set it in its stand.  He walked over to stand solidly beside Jack’s drums.  

When Eddie just continued to stare at the floor with his arms folded and Stone continued to pretend to tune his guitar, Jack stood up.  He signaled the sound guy to take five and walked out from behind his kit.  

“Can we sit for a second?  All of us.  Yes Stone, you too.”  And he led the reluctant group to the corner of the room where there was a table.  “Ok, so I’m going to take advantage of being the new guy here, and call this out.  What I’ve been observing is that, Eddie, Stone, whenever you have a –- I won’t even call it a ‘disagreement’–- literally just a difference of OPINION, you both withdraw into your respective corners and sulk.  I seriously can’t believe you’ve made it this far if this is how you deal with each other.  This isn’t how bands function.  This is totally fucked up.”  

Still no response.  

“Man, you guys are sooooo different from . . . anyway.  Ok, we can do this the easy way or the hard way.  You can either start talking to each other now and I’ll help mediate, or I’ll lock you in a room until you either work it out or beat each other up.  What’s it going to be??” 

Jack noted redness creeping into their faces, but still, Eddie and Stone’s eyes remained glued to the table, their hair flowing down over their faces. Not a word.  Jack sighed and moved to Plan B. 

“Ok, Jeff, then.  Is this your observation too?  How is this dynamic affecting you?”  

Jeff put both hands palms down on the table breathed out slowly.  A long breath.  “Oh my god.  Yes, it’s been sucking like you wouldn’t believe.  I mean, obviously a lot has changed and we’re all dealing with a lot  But, we used to at least talk to each other!  But now, it’s like, too awkward.  I feel like if I agree with Eddie on something, then I’m hurting Stone, and if I agree with Stone, I’m going to piss off Eddie.”   

Eddie raised his eyes from the table slightly as Jeff continued.  

“I’m not trying to be a dick, but Eddie, things feel strange with you now.  I mean, on the way here I stop at a convenience store and boom, there’s your face on every magazine, and every interview I give is just ‘what’s it like to work with Eddie’… you know?  and I’m sure it’s affecting you as much as anything. And I’m sorry, I know it isn’t your fault, but dude, you’ve become unapproachable.”

Eddie lowered his eyes back to the table and pursed his lips.  

“And YOU,” Jeff turned to Stone.  “We’ve known each other for so long, I can always tell when you’re in a funk, but this … is different.  You’ve become completely withdrawn, even from me.  You’ve got a wall around you right now that’s about a mile thick.”  He paused, searching for Stone to look up, to acknowledge him, to show some response.  But Stone looked away, pressing his fist against his lips.  

“Stone?” Jack prompted after an appropriate pause had passed.  “What gives, man?  What’s up with the wall?”  

Stone breathed in sharply.  The bluntness of the question caught him by surprise.  No one in the band normally confronted him like that . . . at least not lately.  Looking up, he saw that everyone at the table was staring at him.  

“I . . . “ he began, but his words trailed off.  He looked back and forth between the three of them, all staring at him, Jeff, Eddie, Jack.  Eddie’s best friend Jack.  Their unwavering stares demanding a response, an explanation, an admission, and he felt hotness flooding his cheeks. 

He turned away from them all again, looking back towards their idling instruments, as if looking for an escape.  But looking over there didn’t help.  He only saw the empty space where Mike’s guitar was supposed to be.   And the new and unfamiliar drum set . . . where Dave’s was supposed to be.  

“Oh my God why is everyone looking at ME?”  He finally blurted out, feeling his pulse quicken. “This isn’t my fault!  Why don’t you make Eddie talk first?”  He added, giving Jack the most innocent smile he could muster. 

But Jack wasn’t having it.   “Jesus Christ.  This isn’t that hard!!  Are you mad at Eddie or what?”

“No!  I just don’t feel like -- I mean -- I’m not trying to be difficult,” he glared at Jeff. “Really, I’m not.”  

“Whuh?!  I never said you were!” Jeff threw his hands up and shook his head. 

“Guys -- “ Jack cut in.  “Just try, Stone. Anything you say is better than nothing.” 

Stone continued to stare at the drums. 

Realizing they were getting nowhere, Jeff tried to push it forward.  “I mean, yeah, let’s do this.  Let’s get it out on the table.  There HAS been a change, a total shift of command, we all know it, it’s been going on for a while.  And that’s been hard to get used to.  I think we’re all just trying to figure out how to work within it – ”  

Stone straightened his back and began wrapping his hair into a scrunchie that had somehow materialized in his hand.  “Of course there’s been a shift,” he said quickly.  “I know that.  And it’s fine.  We should be more democratic, that’s not it. . . “  he caught himself.  “I mean . . . yes, it is.  Like Jeff said, it’s just taking time to get used to.” 

That worked.  Stone sat back and breathed a sigh of relief upon noticing that his explanation seemed to be placating the occupants of the table.  He kept it rolling.  

“So, no, I’m not ‘mad’ at Eddie, okay?  And even if I was.  Which I’m not.  But even if I WAS, you really think I’d be dick enough to bring it up to him?  I mean, we all see what Eddie’s going through right now.  He’s practically a prisoner.  He gets mobbed if he leaves his house.  He has guards.  He gets threats.  He can’t just, like, go for a walk, the way . . . the rest of us can.  You really think I’m going to bother him with shit like, ‘Hey Eddie, it hurts my feelings when you re-arrange my riff?’  No, I’m not going to do that!  So, sure, I go off and sulk instead,” he grinned. 

A long pause. 

“So . . . it does hurt your feelings . . . ”  Jack pressed. 

Stone stared at him in disbelief.   He opened his mouth to protest, but then just closed it again.  

But Eddie was now leaning even further across the table, his eyes reddening slightly. He looked like he wanted to lunge across the table and hug him.   

“Oh my god Stone thank you so much for saying that.  I really . . . was starting to feel like you hate me, especially after the thing with Dave.  But honestly, there’s nothing I would love more than for you to tell me stuff like that . . . “

The thing with Dave.  The thing with Dave?  That’s all it was to Eddie?  The thing . . .?  Stone felt the hotness creeping back into his cheeks. 

“. . .  and Jeff, it hurts me so much when you say I’m ‘unapproachable.’  I never wanted to be this commodity I’m becoming. The world feels so different now, and the only place where I still feel normal is right here.  In this space.  With you guys.   And if YOU all start treating me weird then . . . .”  

Stone abruptly stood up.  “Ok, then it’s settled.  From now on we won’t treat you weird.   Thanks Jack.  This whole counseling session has been super super helpful.  Group hug?”  

 “Stone . . . ” Jeff rolled his eyes.  “For fuck sake.  The whole point of this conversation is to open up and be honest with each other.  There’s obviously more going on here.  If that’s not it, then what is it?  Something is stressing the hell out of you and I wish you would just -- ”  

“Shut up!!” Stone suddenly screamed, unable to hold it in any longer.  He ripped the freshly-created pony tail out of his hair and closed his eyes.  “Just fuck off!”  Putting his hands on his head, he violently pushed the occupants of the table away from his mind, trying to conjure back the world he wanted.  The world that was familiar.  Instead of the ugly void in the rehearsal space he thought about Dave’s soft hair, flailing in time with the rhythm he always pounded out.  And a torrent of images immediately flooded his memory, the first time they met, Pike’s Market, their long talks on the bus, his voice, his smile, his laugh, his aftershave.  Anything but their last meeting.  Anything but the things Dave had said to him that day  . . 

And he needed Mike!  Dammit! 

Struggling to conceal how close he was to tears, he took a deep breath and opened his eyes again.  The group was still staring at him, but now they looked scared. Stone fixed his eyes directly on Eddie, no longer bothering to hide distress and sadness that welled up behind them.  

 “Yes, okay.  There are things that are upsetting me . . . I just don’t know where to begin.  I don’t know how to work through it.  I’m trying but I’m obviously not doing very well or we wouldn’t be having this . . . intervention.” He sunk back down into his chair.  “It’s hard to explain.  It’s like a spiral, I feel like I’m in this really dark place . . . everything feels wrong . . . . I don’t know if I can -- ”  

From across the room he suddenly felt the drums mocking him, and stopped himself.  He couldn’t do it.  He couldn’t let them know what it really was.  How bad it really was.  He had to stop.  

“I’m sorry, I can’t do this,  Not right now. It’s just too . . . raw to talk about.” He looked up at Jack, seeking his approval.  “If I try to, I know it won’t come out right and it will end up . . . going into a place where I don’t want it to go.”  The heat in his cheeks was abruptly replaced by a chill, that made his shoulders convulse involuntarily.  He swallowed hard.  “So . . . yeah.  I’ve got a wall up right now.  And . . . It’s going to be there for a while.” 

The group at the table was quiet. 

Jack finally spoke.  “Yes . . . yes!” he nodded at Stone and smiled.  “There you go.  I knew you could do it.  That’s totally cool, Stone.  Of course you don’t have to talk about it right now.  You need space!  And we can absolutely back off and give you the room you need to work through it.  Thank you for telling us - we just need to know where you’re at.  And that goes for everybody.”  Jack looked around the table.  “Otherwise, someone will misunderstand and think you’re pissed off at them, you see?”  

Stone smiled and bit his lip, feeling a swell of emotion inside his chest.  He suddenly loved Jack. The anger he felt a minute ago was subsiding.  He had his privacy back.  And the images that danced through his mind remained his own.  He looked sheepishly at Eddie and Jeff, and saw that their accusing glares had softened, and were no longer demanding anything of him.  “I’m sorry,” he tried to say to them, but his voice broke.  

Eddie’s eyes had gotten even redder, and he now did lunge forward to throw his arms around Stone.  

“You don’t have to be sorry.  I totally … know.  I’ve been in dark spaces before too and it can be  … absolute hell.”  Eddie pulled away slightly, kneeling next to him and cradling Stone’s hand between both of his. He reduced his voice to a soft whisper. “Is there . . . anything I can do to help?” 

Stone watched Eddie’s hands touching his own, amazed by the innocent sincerity that had so abruptly taken over Eddie’s whole being.  He felt himself relaxing, letting Eddie soothe him, but also knew there was no way he could truly let him inside.  “No,” he finally whispered back.     

Jack and Jeff slowly and quietly got up from the table, to let Eddie and Stone remain there alone, their hands in a gentle embrace.  They sat at the table together for a long time, as the sound guy returned to his post and the sound of drums and the low hum of bass began to envelop them.  When it finally crescendo’d into a steady pulsating groove that neither could resist any longer, they rose to their feet and went back into the rehearsal space to join their band.

TCOG or TCOV (aka Anthony, James, Prince and Gabriel)

Title: The Council of Glitches or The Council of Viruses (either one ya wanna call the four of them, TCOG or TCOV for short) I... had nothing super cool or unique but eh whatever its blunt n straightforward | Names: Anthony, James, Prince, Gabriel | Genders: Male | Species/Race: Glitch/Virus | Ages: All unknown | Heights: Anthony is 100ft, James is 110ft, Prince is 99ft (he's only a bit shorter than Anthony, I was gonna make him the tallest but eh, its too expected) annd finally, Gabriel is 120ft (he is the tallest of the bunch and is d a m n proud of it) | Hair Colors: Anthony's hair is a Bright Green (its obnoxiously bright, his hair is also pretty messy n poofy, he- he doesnt take care of it TOO much), James hair is Black (his hair is slicked back and he seems to take DAMN good care of it as well), Prince's hair is a very soft light pastel yellow (Messy Undercut, his hair is v e r y curly as well), annd finally, Gabriel's hair is a mixture of Black to a Fiery Red sorta color (that's the best way I can explain it also its in the style of: Mid Fade + Layered Fringe) | Eye Colors: Anthony's eyes are a Bright Green (im just gonna say it right now, all of their pupils are normal except Gabriel's which are slit BUT, their pupils can change colors depending on their moods (like you know the basic colors that symbolize each emotion) oh and as a bonus, they can also turn them into symbols if they so want or depending on the situation, their tears are also colorful but the more distressed and upset they all become, the more their tears static out until it SOUNDS like static) James' eyes are a Taupe color (its a dark shade of brown n such), Prince's eyes are a bumblebee color (that looked the best to me n fitting), Gabriel has two different eye colors, one is pitch black, the other is a dark red. | Appearance: Anthony mostly wears outstanding clothing, bright colored clothes to be more precise, it doesn't matter if its a suit or normal comfortable clothing, so long as it captures everyone's attention and puts focus on himself, he doesn't have any scars surprisingly, he does have a short boxed beard (I will say him, James, and Gabriel have short boxed beards, Prince has a circle beard), James mostly wears the fanciest clothing, its all suits and tuxedos, not overly brightly colored unlike Anthony, he doesn't like bright colors or bright clothing but of course, he doesn't mind Anthony wearing them, if that's what makes him happiest, James has a few pixels out of places which is technically like a scar to them but he keeps it hidden most of the time. Prince wears a lot of soft, light colored hoodies/sweaters/turtlenecks, he loves that kind of clothing because its so warm and soft, if there's an important/formal event going on he will wear a suit but it can't be an overly bright or really dark colored one, he doesn't... like either of those, soft pastel colors are more his style, he has no scars which he would if he had ever gotten a chance to be apart of any of the serious fights (but they didn't let him, its not because they think he's weak of course.) annd finally, Gabriel's clothing style is punk, his shirts are usually black, his pants are punk-style with chains hanging off them, and he wears combats boots, he has MANY scars and pixels missing from his body, his most prominent scars include: A scar over his right eye, and pixels missing from his arms and legs. (Gabriel also has like, sharp claws and sharp teeth bc he needs the intimidating factor) | Personalities: Anthony is narcissism incarnate, he wants ALL the attention, all attention on him from the lower life forms, the more compliments he gets the more he MIGHT be merciful on some of them ...Maybe, he's very cocky and confident, (they all love each other though of course, despite their differences, Anthony, James, Prince, and Gabriel love each other very much), Anthony usually mocks the other glitches and viruses for being so insignificant power and size-wise, their such... lower life forms compared to him and his partners (tl;dr: Narcissism incarnate, cocky, confident, makes fun of the tinier weaker beings n such, loves ALL the attention on him, unless its with his partners then he's happy to share as much attention as he can with them) James is a serious person, he has absolutely no chill most of the time, he can... relax around the others but for the tiny glitches and viruses of their virtual world, he's tough, cold, serious and gets straight to the point of any situation, he shows them no kindness, he doesn't think lower beings such as that deserve kindness or anything of the sort, it will only make them weaker, more pathetic, unfit to even exist at that point (tl;dr: 100% Serious like he legit has no chill unless around his partners, he... he shows them affection and care and he WILL protect them with his life if the situation calls for it, he won't ever let a being try and harm them, relaxes but only around them, to any other being he's cold, ya know serious, just gets straight to the point with them and then that's it, he's leaving, shows little to no kindness with anyone but his partners) Prince is super soft, kind, sweet, and honestly... He doesn't look at these tiny creatures, humans, glitches, viruses, whatever it may be... He doesn't look at them as weak or insignificant, now sure, he CAN easily crush a being as small as that n such, but he... He doesn't view them as weak, insignificant, or pathetic... In fact, he likes tiny beings, there's just... Something about them, now of course when he's around his partners, he... he will act tough, confident, and he won't show any care towards the tiny beings, in fear his partners might get mad at him or then begin to think he's weak (which they'd never, James secretly knows of Prince's kindness towards tiny beings, he doesnt... understand it, nor does he really approve but he'd... never confront Prince about it, he just couldn't, now Gabriel or Anthony? Oh they could h e h) (tl;dr: Sweet, kind, soft, he DOES have a few anxieties here n there and worries, when around the others he puts on an act of toughness, confidence, and will not talk or show any care towards tiny beings) Now Gabriel, oh, oh god... He is the WORST bastard, he is the last one you'd EVER want to get stuck with, he can be cruel, vicious, mean and downright horrible to glitches, viruses, humans it doesn't matter! Their all weak, pathetic, so e a s y to crush, to hurt, to k i l l... He won't EVER hesitate to kill anyone unless his partners instruct him specifically not to, then he'll begrudingly listen, but he's not happy about it... He doesn't see a point in letting the others live, their of no use anyways! He might be downright horrible and horrifying to the tiny beings, but to his partners? He... He can actually be super kind and sweet towards them and them only, now sometimes he does like to cause trouble or tease them but he'd never hurt them... He really does love and care about them, and like James, he'd defend them until his dying breath (tl;dr: BASTARD MAN who does love his partners v v much, smooches to them! But to the rest of his race or humans? N o p e, y'all are dead motherfuckers, or your gonna be tortured by him) | Side Facts: Their not brothers, their not "partners in crime" t h e i r in a p o l y relationship, yep! they ALL love each other very much, they have from the very beginning, the first time they all had met, things were awkward, it was weird... but over time... They grew close with each other, they... They all loved each other, and they knew they were destined to rule over the virtual world and of course eventually the real one so, if their going to rule all the worlds... Then they are going to do it together and thems the facts. (so p much despite literally ALL their differences, they were made for each other, even if it was awkward or weird at first, they eventually grew attached to each other) They technically ARE kinda like kings or whatever, but they are ALSO a council, they are responsible for pretty much EVERYTHING over the virtual world, they all have roles to play, some of them do things that the other can't or isn't able to do, etc- (kinda like how James takes care of the armies, he sends them out to take over or something, etc) Anthony usually handles formal events or getting the meetings together, its surprising coming from him but he manages it, Gabriel... oh boy, he- he doesn't have a SPECIFIC set role, honestly, Gabriel does what Gabriel wants UNLESS his partners don't want him to then he won't but he's not happy about it, Prince... he's honestly the best one you could get sent to or the best one to even find you or whatever.

Oooooh shoot this will be interesting. and I don’t mind doing both for you anon!

Iida with a s/o with an eating disorder!

•When you two start dating he has absolutely no idea, on the surface you look fit as a fiddle and healthy! His robotic mannerisms and serious nature make you smile always and being with him does help you some!

•However you’re still sick, you don’t want to tell him because you’re worried he would reject you, but one time…when he takes you to dinner on a Sunday you can’t help it. You tell him you’ll be right back and duck into a nearby restroom. As with most of those public restrooms however the walls are thin and he can hear you getting sick.

•When you come out he’s standing there with a handkerchief to wipe your mouth with. “If you weren’t feeling good you could have told me you know.” At first he thinks you’ve just got a stomach bug and you let him think that apologizing to him as you wipe your mouth. However it gets harder and harder to hide it from him.

•Finally Iida is so concerned he confronts you about it, not angrily but more sounding disappointed. You break down and tell him through sobs that you’ve had this problem since the beginning of middle school. He doesn’t flinch away from the problem though and makes you look up at him. “That’s okay, I’m glad I know now. You’ve been getting thinner though and I…I don’t like that.” He rests his hand on your cheek and nods staring at you. “I love you and I want to help you, so I’ve got a proposition. Go see a doctor, I won’t make you go by yourself I’ll go with you and offer you whatever support you need.” He’s surprisingly calm about it but you wouldn’t expect any less from the super serious and surprisingly mature Iida.

Bakugo with a s/o with an eating disorder!

•You are definitely surprised when the angry hot headed Bakugo asks you out; angrily of course but you simply laugh at his outburst. He’s so against having feelings other than anger and pride it was a shock that he would even bother paying attention to anyone but himself. On your first date, you’re too nervous to eat and Bakugo, mutters a bit, in an odd mix of a quiet but angry tone, “Listen just eat a bit this feels awkward and it’s pissing me off.”

•You do manage to eat some, you really only felt weird about it because to be honest you’re a little on the chubby side, what he doesn’t know is that you’ll eat when you’re stressed which is why you’re a little on the bigger side. You do live in the same dorms, obviously on opposites sides of the building so it’s a little hard to hide your stress eating or the amount you’ll normally eat.

•However one night, after you had failed a really important exam and had to do a make up test, he hears rustling in the kitchen on his way to a restroom and peeks inside to see you stuffing your face with a large bag of chips you’d bought earlier. You instantly freeze and try to hide them but he’s already walking over to you taking the bag. His voice is low but you can tell he’s angry, “You idiot, I’m not blind. We’ve been dating for awhile now did you think I hadn’t noticed how you panic when you fail at shit?” You flinch away his bluntness turning your face red and shame filling you up. He kneels in front of you and smacks your head, “I’m not going to dump you or anything moron! So stop looking down like that!”

•When you do lift your head you’re surprised at how oddly gentle Bakugo’s expression is. “I’m gonna help you like it or not.” Not knowing the meaning of subtlety…he blows up your binge snack with his quirk, causing you to squeak when he gets this oddly wicked grin on his face, “Hope you’re ready to work. I don’t plan on going easy on you just because I love you.” Your eyes widen at that and when you ask him what he shrugs, “Don’t know what you’re talking about. Go back to bed and don’t even try to run away from me tomorrow, I’m taking you to see the counselor.” A chill runs down your spine, because you know he’s serious but maybe with his support you’ll be able to get better.

Haikyuu Chapter 300 - the unexpected roll

So... in the end I had picked up to color so many panels from this chapter to do a roll was the only thing to do, as a collage wouldn’t have been enough to store all images.

My feelings towards the general flow of this match vs Nekoma hasn’t changed in the slightest tho.

It’s the most predictable game ever and it cannot end in any other way than with a win from Karasuno over a disjointed Nekoma, giving Kenma a reason and the emotion to fight from there onwards in a more passionate way (of course Furudate will reach all of it with some special and absolutely not realistic superpowers from Boku No Hero Karasuno... the main reason I am gonna hate this game for...)

But let’s taste some greatness before all goes downhill (and it will):

I loved already last time to catch Eikichi witnessing our overpowered Volley Lord *.*, so to see him again makes me happy.

He had been so nice to the Lord and his “little” social bluntness at the beloved National training Camp that I would love to say “ehi, man, SURE the Lord remembers you and your details!”... but it’s almost assured he doesn’t.

Lord Almighty of Volley only remembers the worthy players’ names. In fact at that camp he knew already the worthiest ones’ names before even meeting them (READ: SAKUSA... his fated partner forever. He reckoned him even before stepping into the gym... awwwwww! It’s DESTINY!).

But good job, Chigaya. You were still a first year among the crop of the National Youth Camp, so you’re talented enough maybe to have the Lord remember your name after you trained five days along him.

Let’s be hopeful ;)

Now, everybody, look at that perfect upper body and the wide shoulders of the Lord as he impacts the ball ^.^

The little trick our immense Lord is attempting to pull off needs some registering yet...

And by the way, the man who inspired Lord Kags’ attempts here had some trouble in registering his own serve too, some months prior.

Did any ever doubt Kageyama could have NOT tried something Oikawa had done, after witnessing it?

The Lord has one senpai to look up to, and it’s definitely not Sugawara, whose ability stands next to Kageyama as a grain of sand compared to Mount Everest.

Not that Oikawa can be either a match to the Lord, but at least Oikawa is DEFINITELY someone the Lord feels pushed and stimulated by, because he has enough talent on his own to constitute a worthy adversary for him (or a worthy model, which works better).

Look, this was chapter 144...

Guaranteed, Kageyama will serve Kai his demise, with his own SPINNING version of the former Oikawa’s bomb serve, just let him have a lil bit of time (this before Furudate will kill volley and probably make the Lord injured, just to give the abhorrent Orange Midget some miraculous spotlight).

Look how the Lord is replaying the action in his magnificent volley vision to adjust for next serves rounds...

He’s truly the prodigy of volley.

And sports prodigies, who do exist in real life of course, are my esthetic always, in the normal world, and in 2D world as well.

I wrote what I had to in the panels already... let me just say I can’t resist to the Akane + Alisa’s combo.

Considering beside Saeko, who’s super badass, the only female figures we used to have presented in Haikyuu are the extremely beautiful, but extremely boring and narcoleptic Kiyoko, and the utter failure of a human being Yachi (so unimpressive and basic I feel offended as a female to have her as a guest protagonist in a manga about my fav sport...), to have a lil kid so fired up and knowledgeable as Akane, and someone as beautiful, cheerful and curious as Alisa feels like the most needed breath of fresh air in  the female ranks of this project.

I expect Furudate to ruin them soon.

It can’t be helped... Furudate has a knack for ruining things I love, so he will also with Akane and Alisa for sure.

Here you have a proud Tanaka supporter since the very start so any time he does these things I squeal. But of course... well... nobody is a match for THE ONE & ONLY.

I colored the panels on a swimming pool border as I was tanning and my friends around me where asking me why I was sighing as I was holding the Apple pencil.

My bae’s just told them “She’s getting excited because she’s coloring Tobio Kageyama. My life is hard sometimes...”

*.* Sorry babe. I know. I can’t help it... but you be good and you will have your reward later ;)

Here I couldn’t erase the midget’s face so I... operated a lil change to his ugly mug. That still count as an improvement of his regular face.

Back to the panel, the excitement kitten Kenma shows up there IS FOR BOKU NO HERO KARASUNO.

All of this game which sets Kenma in overdrive ONLY has to do with the Annoying Orange.

Also the final panel... Kenma has only ONE target this game. Defeat Hinata like he is some videogame boss. The rest of Karasuno is just a side trouble for him.

(THIS pitiful plot is the reason for I will happily ditch Haikyuu as soon as the horrifying midget gets a spot only a fairy tale for brainless simpletons could pass for a good storyline in volley. I am sorry, but I won’t stomach that fictional midget no more than it’s strictly necessary, and the story of his Kenma’s molding most definitely is out of my spectrum of enjoyable reading).

Bonus: Yaku being so good.

Yaku is really good. I mean, he’s not darling Komori Motoya, but he is REALLY good.

Can I have a lil Nekomata on my shelf? You know for me Ukai is a treasure, but although he wants a type of game play which is not really my taste, Nekomata sensei’s love for the game is intoxicating to me. He’s so fair and so into volley... I cannot have but ENDLESS LOVE for him.

I also like the mood of open appreciation the two teams have for one another.

After all, they are playing one against the other since a year.

And now, see how the awkward, lovely Lord tries to be communicative with his teammates.

I always laugh at his attempts. He’s gotten better, but he still hilarious when he tries to convey his vision to others (actually, I long to see how he will do the same with the only one who can push his buttons exactly when he tries that communicative mode, and that’s my Tsukki... with Tanaka is easy, Lord... Tanaka is willing to cooperate but Tsukki... Tsukki will try to resist ;)).

Grade: C for the effort, Lord.

Well.

It’s canon.

Nobody is at Kageyama’s level, nor anybody can hope to get there (though we don’t know about Sakusa’s stats yet. So I hope HE CAN, to create the most perfect future combo ever...), but it always makes me shiver when the whole universe just acknowledges the fact.

From the Universe, of course one gotta part the only scrub who cannot figure in it.

I mean, I erased his repulsive face because he makes me puke, but it’s just as canon as the fact Kageyama is (by far) the BEST the way some fictional scrub midget will do his worst to have baseless hopes he could one day become nearly as good as the Volley Prodigy Lord.

I mean... sure Furudate can make the Orange Curse develop even more his not possible superpowers, but the fact is in REAL life, somebody like Hinata simply cannot exist on a volley court.

But be hopeful, Orange Scrub: certainly to praise your brainless army of simpletons supporters, Furudate will upgrade you in a minute with some skill real players (with talent, a thing you have not) use years to perfect and master.

Gosh.

How this makes my stomach convulse...

So, before Furudate taints this game with some Hinata upgrade and he makes the Lord have some “disgrace”, let’s keep enjoy for a while more a game sanitized from the Scrub... (whom I erased happily once more, but anyway he was useless in all these actions anyway so...)

Yaku and Kuroo’s resilience is amazing.

It happens sometimes in games to meet THAT kind of team, the one like Nekoma. So solid in their defensive stances you really get frustrated and agitated.

I am more for attacking than defending, but it’s a golden rule in volley there’s no game if you can’t defend well first.

And then Nekoma has Kenma... so it’s not like they only defend (more on this later).

Why didn’t you close the panel with the Lord’s FULL and perfect face, Furudate?

His perfect eyes... 

sigh.

You will pay for your sins, Furudate.

Even though you have done this well overdue panel where everyone just states the mere truth, singing the Lord’s choruses of praise, like it’s normal and logic it happens.

Awww. They are so cute *.*

I REALLY like the face Kuroo has while he sings Lord Kageyama’s praise.

That is the face of a human acknowledging the miracles of Nature.

And prodigies ARE a Nature’s gift to humanity after all, whatever kind their talents are.

Also, I love how Nekomata says the other truth: when you witness talents, you should not be getting scared, or envious (like the scrub midget), or disheartened. 

You should be grateful and excited to confront yourself with that talent, because that’s the way you will progress.

That’s the way you will get pushed, inspired, confirmed in your sport love path.

Instead we have a “fandom” all keen at trashing and diminishing the purest source of volley in the manga, just because, like the “protagonist” they blindly feel connected to, they can’t get the blessing of talent, nor appreciate and celebrate its existence.

Well... Kuroo CAN.

The clarity of admiration in his eyes... it’s exactly my same one, when Kageyama does volley THAT good.

Now it’s not like Lord Kags is the only talented setter on court though.

Of course, he is THE MOST TALENTED character in the manga BUT (what I used to love Haikyuu very much for, before the way Hinata became started to disgust me), he is not the only talented setter at all.

There are MANY other talents there, and SURE, kitten Kenma is one of the most interesting ones.

And if I wouldn’t know once he gets involved, it means Hinata will come erasing all fun and believability in this game for me, I’d surely like to see what this image forecasts for the future...

But as I said, this game has to show the Orange Curse winning over Kenma so that Kenma gains a willpower and a fight insistence he currently lacks.

So there’s no way what lays ahead for this game is going to be appreciated by me, despite the amazing mind Kozume has which is for sure a source of great plays in nuce ahead.

Too bad Hinata exists, because I would have liked to follow the dynamic of the Lord facing the Mastermind Kitty, and see which ways a further confrontation with Kenma will increase Kageyama’s volley spectrum (he has already learnt from him the eye feint, after all).

But if I have to stand Hinata along this process...

NOPE.

GAMERS! Episode 06

Alright, now that the cat has finally settled down, I can actually make use of my hands for something other than delivering pettings. It’s GAMERS!, episode 06! Here we GO!

-DAY 06: Gamers and Wipeout “Game Over”

-We begin immediately, with Chiaki and Tasuku in that same cafe. It must be right by the school or somethin’. But he’s managed to drag her in and explain what she saw, which might in fact be, drumroll please…THE FIRST USE OF ACTUAL WORDS TO RESOLVE A PROBLEM IN THE STORY! Congratulations, Tasuku! For your managing to actually cut a problem off at the knees thanks to honest and earnest communication, you get a chance at the mystery doors! What will be behind the door you choose? Will it be a wholesome and fulfilling relationship with an Aguri who is more honest with herself of who she is? Will it be continued madness and romantic conspiracy-walls from all the other problems in your life? Or will it be a BRAND, NEW, CAR! Let’s find out.

-Anyways, Tasuku is also realizing, here he is hanging out with Chiaki instead of, you know, his girlfriend. The universe is cruel. And that’s when Chiaki sympathizes, grumbling about how a jerk like Keita got this super cute girlfriend. Yeah, he…Wait what? And the way he had to rub it in her face the other day! Are you sure it wasn’t just…You know what, change the subject. So about just Keita—

-“I hope he gets on a helicopter built by Capcom.”

-WOW.

-Just…

-Fuck.

-Okay, different subject entirely. What’s your read on Karen, miss gamer blonde herself? And also that’s when Keita and Aguri slink by with their faces covered by their schoolbags. Chiaki is confused by the entire question, because honestly, she barely knows the girl, but she can see that she’s on a totally different level from Chiaki herself…Jeez, it’s like dealing with a Keita from the mirror world. You three have serious shit to sort out. Oh and Aguri and Keita have slipped into the next booth over to listen and spy on this relationship.

-And then Chiaki ends up flipping the question around, trying to see what Tasuku thinks about Karen! Well…She’s pretty impressive. Flawless, even. (Until you get to know her and see how bad her crush on Keita has broken her. It’s like poking a faberge egg.) But Chiaki realizes, oh god, of course! You have a thing for her! God, she can never beat that…

-Whoa, hey, pick yourself up. You’re not human garbage, you’ve got plenty to offer the right guy…He even gives her a head pat, which she only manages to react to belatedly, with a total panic, as Tasuku apologizes. The girls he spends time around are the super clingy forward types who usually want that sort of thing…And Chiaki, too confused to do anything, has to fleeeeee! Tasuku has to pay so he can chase after her…

-While Keita is panicking inside and Aguri just…Oh, poor Aguri. She’s totally checked out and shut her brain down. So, uh, Tasuku didn’t pick the right mystery door. At all. He picked the bad one. And then bulldozed the set. So Keita is panicking because he heard more than enough to know that Tasuku is two-timing Aguri…And Aguri is…Um…She’s just rambling out the Konami Code over and over again, which I think means she needs to be rebooted. Quick, where’s her power button?

-Cut to a clear blue sky. Aguri has recovered enough, as the two try to figure out what to do going forward while they actually get drinks…With her suspicions seemingly confirmed, Aguri has to figure out how she even wants to progress. She still loves the idiot, even with her heart having just been broken…But she doesn’t even know if she wants to try and salvage that relationship, right now. So, okay! Deep breath! Focus on a problem they can actually fix! Namely, Keita and Karen. That’s something she can actually make progress on. What have you been doing to work towards asking her out, Keita?

-…Um…Well…You see…The answer to that is…

-Do you have any idea how hard she had to work to get Tasuku? This won’t be easy, you know! Keita quietly reminds himself that Tasuku sure as hell didn’t prove to be worth all that effort for her. SHE HEARD THAT YOU FUCK

-But, okay, her point is it’s not just about self improvement. It doesn’t matter how strong or fast or learned or stylish you are, you’ve got to be forward! This isn’t a game where you can just lean on your stats! This is real life, and relationships are more complex than that. One plus one doesn’t just add up to two. It adds up to LOVE! So in case you were wondering, yes, Aguri is exactly as much of a dumb teenage idiot as all the others, she is just a slightly different variety of dumb teenage idiot. Oh, you poor sweet children.

-From Keita’s read, though, he needs to be friends with Karen first…Hell, he needs to even be noticed by her as more than just recruitment material! (Oh if only you knew) Well you only get to either of those by being bold and forward! You want to get somewhere, you gotta make that first step! He knows, he just…It’s…Well how did you confess to Tasuku?

-And Aguri gets all blushy and gushy. You wanna know? You really wanna knowwww? Ohhh man! She’ll tell you everything! …She just straight up asked him. She did the whole new look thing first since she heard rumors he was into the bubbly ditzy thing, but in the end…You just gotta be direct! The truth of the heart is rarely so complicated. You can do it. She believes in you!

-And Keita starts to get a fire in his belly, as he decides he’s got nothing to lose! He’s going to do it! He’s going to talk to Karen tomorrow, and befriend her or die trying! HELL YEAH! Chase your happiness, dude! They clasp hands in triumph, as all of the other patrons of this cafe wish this pair would quit fucking coming here.

-Over to Karen having to let a whole series of guys down. All of whom are…Not having good times with it, as she’s getting more and more blunt with her answers, too.

-To the game club, where Eiichi’s noticed how brutal she’s getting with her answers. He can’t help but wonder if something’s shifting her focus. WHAT WHERE WOULD YOU GET THAT IDEA…But he also thinks that Karen tends to always kind of keep her guard up. Maybe she wouldn’t come off so harshly if she was a little more open and honest and let the armor down? Otherwise, as he mumbles to himself, he sees no way she’s ever gonna get Keita to notice her as a woman…What was that? Oh, nothing!

-Over to Keita’s place, where he’s playing Golden Memories…And his character fucking ditches the Karen type when some thugs grab her up. Wow. Wwwwww. You earned that Bad End, you sure did. You were so close, too! He wonders if it just proves he’s totally incompatible with the rich idol type…

-And that’s when he notices he’s got some texts! One from Aguri, wishing him well and reminding him to get some sleep! Tossing and turning all night will just mean he doesn’t have the energy or vibrancy to tackle this head-on. And don’t stay up all night gaming, either! Ouch.

-And the other messages? From Tasuku, who heard that he’s finally going after Karen, and wants to offer Keita some backup so it works out, and Keita will get some serious respect if it all works! Or, you know, derision and mockery if she still shuts him down, lulz. And Keita is about ready to tell him off, but, no, deep breath. Tasuku might be a dickhead, but he’s still trying to help him, right? Oh and then Mono-san sends him a game message to get fired up about the in-game event tomorrow…Keita can’t help but feel that Mono-san is a kindred spirit, someone he can understand, a shy and awkward soul…Who, in their own way, is rooting for him too.

-And he decides one last round at Golden Memories. As he begins to think…What if the answer isn’t to neglect the others and focus on Flora, the rich idol type who looks like Karen…What if the answer is that Flora only likes the kind of guy who treats them all right? That’s unusual…But as he barrels through the choices, focusing on everyone’s happiness…He gets the Good End, with Flora leaping into the hero’s arms, having fallen for his kind and gentle heart!

-That’s the real answer! You’ve got to treat everyone right…You’ve got to stand by your friends who’ve looked out for you! Even if this doesn’t work, he’s learned a true and profound lesson in life!

-Commercial break!

-And we’re back! It’s the next day in class, and Tasuku’s old stylish friends want to know what the FUCK he’s managed to do to that little nerd that he’s going to try and ask out the hottest girl in school! Leave him beeeeeeeee. Also he secretly spread that rumor around in the first place. You know, every time Tasuku gets that face, it means something is about to get worse. Even Keita is starting to hear the rumors, and getting nervous…

-As they end up having a bit of a confrontation when they both step out to the bathroom. Tasuku realizes Keita might be angry, and tries to save some face with an apology…But, listen, he’s trying to help you out, too. Think about it. You and Karen get together as friends. What are people going to think when they see you two together? That you’re a couple. You want people to know the score. And the kind of people who will spread it around so it becomes known knowledge! So, where is the best time to ensure people see the results?

-…Their classroom, right after the last bell, when tons of people are still hanging around, including Tasuku’s gossip friends! Now you get it. Shit, that all DOES make sense! Keita can use this!

-Cut over to Aguri’s class, where she’s trying to map out the insane relationship chart that her life now includes, and figure out how to thread the needle on this…And how to deal with Chiaki. She’s the real problem. If Chiaki wasn’t involved, it’d all be easy, because the only other girl in the picture would be Karen, who Keita likes, and so if they got together, it’d take her off the menu and let Aguri keep Tasuku all for herself. It’d all line up. But, there IS Chiaki. Who Keita insists he hates but is clearly closer to than he’s willing to admit. And who clearly likes Tasuku. And who Tasuku, from all the data Aguri has, likes in turn. Chiaki is the monkey wrench in the works. But since she can’t Plan C this girl, how the hell can she solve the problem?!

-Hell, she can’t even manage to write that Tasuku likes her without having a freakout…Made worse because Chiaki reminds her so much of her old self! Her dark days, before she could manage to ask Tasuku out! Aaaargh! Bye bye, relationship chart.

-Wait, wait…The whole thing Keita’s doing after school. Tasuku will be there…She can use that! She can get his feelings, and bring his eyes back to her!

-Cut to Chiaki, who has heard the rumors and is trying to figure out what this will all mean…She would swear before a court of law that Keita’s dating this Aguri girl…Except, she’s also heard that Tasuku is dating a girl with the same name. Sisters? Or the same girl? Would Keita really steal a girl out from his friend like that…No, no, she knows him. He’s an asshole, but he’s not that kind of asshole…

-But then…That could only leave one possibility…

-Aguri is playing him! She’s using him, fluffing up his feelings to turn him into a walking vending machine! He’s probably paying for every round at the arcade, for every canned drink, for this two-timing pink-haired harlot! This girl is playing his innocent geek heart, and he must be coming to Karen because he’s desperate and needs to ask for money from the rich girl! It all makes SENSE! She doesn’t like Keita, but she can’t watch a fellow geek be fucked with like this! She has to save him so he can find happiness (far far away from her and her entire life)!

-Oh, and Tasuku is really using Keita for his OWN games. This event isn’t just to help Keita out…It’s to draw Aguri! Then, Tasuku can hide in the crowd, watch Aguri, and see how she reacts…He’ll know for sure if she’s fallen for Keita! If his girlfriend is falling off to grab nerd-boy…He’ll, fucking, KNOW! It’ll all work! She’ll never suspect that she’s being watched…If this is just a friendship, she’ll be happy for her buddy Keita! If it’s more, oh, her reaction will be all he needs to confront her with her cheating ways! It’s a PERFECT PLAN!

-And everyone just kind of stares at Tasuku.

-Back to Aguri, who has taped her chart back together! If Tasuku is really after Karen, he’ll be disappointed if she becomes Keita’s friends. She’ll be hiding for him, watching and waiting…And if he’s after Chiaki, then he’ll be looking to her, worried that Keita will snatch her away! She’ll be able to get all the data she needs! It’s a PERFECT PLAN!

-To Chiaki, who’s decided that Keita is coming as a cry for help! It’s an SOS, a beg to get him away from this fiendish socialite who’s using his better nature against him, because he doesn’t have the heart to dump Aguri outright…She’ll have to be there, to see what’s going on! And to be ready to get Aguri to leave Keita alone! It’s a PERFECT PLAN!

-To Keita, who thinks fun things are fun.

-Swing back to Tasuku, who realizes that if Aguri and Keita are actually dating, then this whole thing is a farce! What will he do if he sees Aguri look to him with guilt and fear for her actions…That would be the worst possible thing! But, okay, that’ll never happen. It’ll be fine. (That’s what’s gonna happen)

-Whip cut to Aguri! Who, oh god, what if Tasuku looks to her for her reaction? It’ll prove he’s two-timing! Checking for his girlfriend at a gathering of miscreants and two-timers…That’s what a player would do. But no, her Tasuku would never be that awful. It’ll be fine. (It won’t be) She’s so smart and crafty! (Too clever by half)

-Slam the camera to Chiaki! What if Aguri and Tasuku look to each other, all guilty? They might be in on this together! Not a slut cheating on her normal boyfriend to extort a sad nerd boy, but a duo using him for both their ends…And if they both saw Keita’s SOS to Karen, oh god, that could only mean…! Okay, deep breath. It could never get that bad. (It’s gonna get that bad)

-Whatever happens…The after school event is the moment where it all changes! And everyone lets out creepy laughs.

-Over to Karen, who realizes Chiaki is giving her a LOOK. And oh god, she can’t put it together. Why would Keita want to see her after school?! He’s going to dump her as a friend, isn’t he?! He wants to just play his RPGs in peace, he’s going to abandon her because she was too forward! No, deep breath…She has to face it and act with dignity and honor. She’s Tendou Karen, heir to the Anything Goes school o—

-What was that?

-I’m being told I have the wrong Tendo.

-Carry on.

-Time passes, and finally, it is the end of class…And it’s time to attack! People rise up, as Karen marches down to the class, trying to rehearse her plan in her head…She’ll meet this head-on, and face it however it goes…Okay, deep breath…Is Keita here?

-Keita panics inside when he sees SHE ACTUALLY CAME oh shit oh shit this is real okay deep breath! O-Over here! Tasuku wishes him luck, as the crowd starts gathering…Including Aguri, and even Chiaki! His friends are here for him! He can do this! And as everyone stares and watches…He stammers, but, okay, deep breath…This is really hard…

-Oh that sorrow face…

-But…She seems so focused…Oh god she must be preparing to reject him! And Tasuku isn’t even looking at him! None of them are looking at him! They don’t want to see him in the moment of defeat, it’s the only thing that makes sense! But, that also proves something…He has friends. Tasuku, jerk that he is. Aguri, even with her head in the clouds. Chiaki doesn’t count. Mono-san, who’s been with him since day one of their shared game! Flora, whose happy ending he has a save file for he can return to at any time! Deep breath! Do this! However it goes, he doesn’t need Karen’s approval…He can be happy even if she turns him down!

-So…Tendou-san, please…

-So Tasuku is having a freakout because Aguri would only be looking at him so intently if she was bonking Keita behind his back! It’s the worst-case scenario!

-So…Tendou-san, please…

-So Aguri is losing her mind because her Tasuku is looking at her so intently, which he’d only do if he was secretly going after Karen himself! He’s been a skeevy player the whole time! He’ll cheat on Karen and Chiaki, too! He’s a MONSTER! She’s in love with a monster!

-So…Tendou-san, please…

-So Chiaki just breaks, because oh god those two are looking at each other so intently! They must realize the jig is up! Their twisted game, going steady while they both manipulate Keita to their own ends, is about to be discovered, depending on what Karen says! Her dear fellow nerd, hate him even as she does, is about to be destroyed! She can’t watch! But nor can she look away!

-So…Tendou-san, please…

-So Karen tries to hold herself strong. However this goes, she has to hear him out. She has to speak from the heart, even if that means pain. She owes it to herself, and to the boy she loves!

-So…Tendou-san, please…

-So countless memories flash through Keita’s mind. Their first proper meeting. That day in the club. Their walk. The arcade challenge. His friends backing him up, building him to this point, ready to cheer him on or console him. Karen might be a thousand miles out of his league…But it’s just like that one foreign song! You can only cross a thousand miles by first walking five hundred, and then five hundred more!

-So…Tendou-san, please…Go out with him! Yep sure thing. Everything goes silent, as he realizes he meant to say ‘be his friend’, whoops, can he have a d—

-The screaming starts as everyone realizes what he just said COME BACK FOR NEXT TIME

Birthday Ficlet Part #2

Alternately Titled: They’ll Tell The Story of Tonight

a/n: hi hola hello! I’M BACK with another Marshall Birthday Fic which features some of the major events that had happened during the surprise party. I just really want to thank everyone who had took the time to join the RP and I hope I kinda do justice for what had happened XD Sorry that I didn’t really write about the T or D because lol, this fic would be even longer and I think I just might die from so much writing. ANYWAY, thank you so much for coming to the party! Just as I was tucked into my favorite nook, having finished a video call from the Silver Bullets in South Korea (who had orchestrated a spectacular birthday greeting in the matching pajamas I had sent to them for Christmas), Venus pops into my room with a smile.

“Marshall darling,” she practically sings out and I look up from my phone to greet her. We didn’t get to really talk the whole day today

“Greetings and Salutations, Vee.” I reply back.

Vee steps inside with the door open with another grin- why do I feel like she had something up her sleeve? That was a loaded smile.

“So...you know how it's your birthday....I sort of threw you a party in my room with all the Selected so surprise! And I love you!” Venus quickly rambles gesturing to the door, and my jaw practically drops at her words.

“Wait… a party?!” I stand from my chair, walking towards Venus. I couldn’t believe that Venus was throwing a party for my birthday. Sure I celebrated my birthday- chocolate cake with candles, tiny party hat for the festivity, maybe a little ice cream, but I’ve never really had people set up a party just for me.

“Yes a party - you do deserve the best, come on you're keeping everyone waiting!” Venus gestures to the door again.

I begin to follow her out the door putting my phone inside my back pocket. “Whoa, okay…. okay..”

Just as Vee leads me into her room across the hall, I hear yells of surprise from everyone waving their hands and smiling at the sight of me. Good lord help me not be so awkward here.

I cover my mouth in shock of the sight to behold- literally most of the Selected girls were there and jumping in excitement. There was Fleur, Misty, Jordan, Clove, Eloise,

“Hi… everyone!” I say waving at everyone’s direction still covering my mouth. I couldn’t believe Vee had organized all this, and everyone was here! Wow! I didn’t think this many people would want to go to a party for me, this was… surreal.

I feel an arm sling around me, “What do you think?” Vee gestures to her decorated room and I’m just amazed at how much effort she had put into this- my own mother has never put this much effort into a birthday. The gliterring decorations gave it a vibe that only Vee could pull off but she had made sure to put things familiar to me that made it seem like a bedazzled military base.

“Well, I feel like I'm in one of my old bases... just... sparklier. “ I comment looking around and taking in Vee’s transformed room. It was all so sparkly.

In the background I could hear Clove asking about the cupcakes and everyone laughing at the blunt question.

“I wouldn’t mind cupcakes right about now, “ Misty laughs before turning to me, “Happy 20th Marshall, by the way.”

“Oh, thanks Misty.”

What followed was another flurry of personal greetings from everyone, including the usually animated Fleur who asked about my age.

Just as I was about to get myself one of the cupcakes with tiny airplanes on top of it, I hear Clove declare that I should show one of my flight routines to everyone- and I mentally laugh at trying to attempt a routine alone- but everyone seems to like the idea, including Vee.

“Flight routines..well ahh.. anybody have a plane on standby?” I ask sarcastically- all these girls were definitely something.

After a few jokes of leaving planes and not having any planes, Clove presents one of the tiny planes on the cupcakes.

“Plane.”

“Clove likes to play with toy cars and planes apparently.” Eloise side comments in a teasing tone.

“I’m just giving a suggestion.” Clove defends herself, “It has a plane on it.”

“Pffft... fine- I can make due with the cupcakes.” I shake my head with a laugh at their small banter.

“So…” I separate about six cupcakes with planes on them and hold two up in my hands. Uh… I guess I was going to show them the first formation the Bullets and I had learned after basic training. “I'm usually in a formation of six- that's how many we are the squad-”

Just as I was explaining the routine to everyone and everyone was seemingly amazed by the simple formation I was showing to them, I sensed that more people had come into the party.

I arrange the cupcakes into a V shape, “The first formation has to be a V for the six of us, and I'm this one,” I point to one of the cupcakes at the tip.

“V as in me?” I hear Venus giggle and I roll my eyes in reply.

“Don’t flatter yourself, Vale.”

I continue explaining the formation, rearranging cupcakes here and there to explain how as a squad we could do a basic air show.

As I finish up, Venus continues to go through whatever program she had in mind for my party.

“So for the next part of our program, I will be entertaining you all - just give me a second to change.” she declares before doing a quick change rivaled only by Clark Kent.

“SURPRISE MARS!” The beauty guru then pops out of the bathroom wearing a track suit with a camouflage print on it and my jaw just DROPS. “I'll be doing a segment on impersonating our very own Camille Marshall.”

“Oh God, this should be fun…” Poppy comments as we all watch in mild horror at what Venus was going to do (okay, the mild horror was more on me) .

“OH GOOD LORD,” I exclaim as cover my eyes with my hands, hoping to just get through the impersonation without dying of embarrassment.

Venus deepens her voice as she starts her act, “Hi. I'm Marshall and I brood a lot.”

“I DO NOT BROOD,” I defend myself… okay.. maybe I do get caught up in my own thoughts and not end up talking every once in a while… but ugh okay, there was only one way to save face here.

“…a lot.” I correct Venus earning laughter throughout the room.

“Don’t forget the salutations,” Clove mumbles.

“Salutations, I also think about flying planes a lot.” Vee says in her deepened voice (I didn’t have a super deep voice, it was just modulated a lot but that’s beyond the point). Venus then decides to add some plane noises for extra comedic effect. All I could do was try to move my jaw as I tried to think of something else to defend myself with.

“Is she also a plane?”

In her most stoic and deep voice, Vee adds “I love planes so much I might as well be one”

“What’s truly sad is how accurate it is…” Poppy comments and I suddenly regain my ability to speak.

“IT'S "GREETINGS AND SALUTATIONS" FYI.” I correct again. For some reason, that kind of greeting had stuck to me since I was a kid.

Everyone continues to laugh at Venus’ impression of me, and I can’t help but shake my head in mock horror. I feel so exposed.

A knock on the door catches our attention and Venus opens it to the sight of three of Nate’s siblings: Quinn, Brooks, and Mal. Wow, were they here for the party? I shouldn’t be asking that, Brooks had a present in his hands. Nice sleuthing Sherlock.

Venus audibly gasps, “Good evening your highnesses.”

And everyone else in the room has a brief moment of shock at the royals outside the bedroom door, all of us scrambling to follow a Venus who dipped into one of her curtsies.

On the bright side, my initial reaction wasn’t to salute them… so I’ve obviously made progress in lessons with Lady Collette, but I needed to improve my reaction time when curtsying. Maybe later.

“Hello! We heard there was a birthday.” Quinn greets all of us with a smile while Mal looked like she was going to kill someone and Brooks looked like his usual awkward self which I related to some level.

“Please don’t curtsy!” Brooks exclaims to the attention of most of the girls present. Fleur, Jordan, and Clove didn’t seem to take their eyes off him. Poppy and Mal were having some stare down.

“Yes there is! Our very own Mars!” Vee gestures to me, and I curtsy at their attention.

“Hi there your highnesses.” Not one of my best greetings, quite honestly.

“Great, we bought a present!” Quinn says.

“Can we go now?” Mal side comments before her older sister pushes through the door.

“Have a seat please, we were just doing a segment on appreciating Mars' best qualities.” Venus offers the royals somewhere to sit with her usual grace- damn, this girl was good at hosting people, being polite and all that. Quinn graciously took a seat while Mal seemed to be staring down Poppy.

After a brief mini-confrontation between Poppy and Mal, which thankfully didn’t end in me having to pull someone off another, an obviously uncomfortable Brooks approaches me with the present in hand.

“Merry Christmas- er... Happy Birthday.” Brooks says, handing me the gift.

“Ha! Thanks a lot, Prince Brooks.” I say setting the gifts down on one of the tables.

“Just Brooks, please.” he smiles at me before everyone’s attention is turned back to Venus.

“Now that's settled, shall I finish my segment? I have a special guest coming in after this.” she declares. “Err...of course all of you are special too,” Venus gestured towards the royals in the room, damn- I can’t believe how I had a prince and two princesses at my birthday. I could barely get a clown or a mascot in those old days.

Everyone receives Venus with amusement, telling her to continue.

“Special guest?” I ask… who would Venus invite? MY PARENTS? MY FATHER? I hope she didn’t invite them, they’re the worst party goers ever.

“As I was saying,” Venus says as she shifts her features into a stoic expression and squares her shoulders to make her stand a little more rigid, “I'm Marshall, I love planes, I'm a damn good soldier and best of all even though my friends pull stunts like this, I still love them.” she switches to her regular speaking voice,

“Give it up for the birthday girl everyone!” she claps and we all cheer and applaud her for her Oscar-worthy portrayal of me.

After the clapping dies down, Venus continues to speak,“Okay do you all want the special guest first or to mingle first? Because I've been told this special guest might make Mars cry.”

“Let the birthday girl choose then,” Fleur suggests.

“Marshall?? Showing emotion?? Sorry, I don’t know her,” Poppy laughs and I can’t actually help but laugh along with her.

“I never cry, okay?” I joke before taking a bite from a cupcake.

There was truth to that statement, I never really was the one to cry…? It must have been all those years being raised under the same roof as an admiral and an EMT pilot, my emotions were kinda better at being kept at bay thanks to their parenting.

“What if the puppy in the movie dies?” Clove asks which then begins a few more theories on things that could possibly make me cry, which included a suggestion of a plane crash and some reference to something on the internet I don’t quite understand.

“All of you discuss what would make her cry I'll go prepare our guest.” she says, slipping out of the door

While we wait for Venus to bring in the special guest, everyone starts to make small talk- and by that I mean .. somehow gang up on Brooks and turn him into the main topic of conversation, which was hilarious to watch as a bystander. From what I pick up from them, something is bound to go on between Brooks and one of the girls at this rate.

It was funny seeing Brooks get so bothered with all the attention.

Just as the banter was getting even more entertaining, Venus quickly comes in leaving the door slightly ajar.

“Now here is the one person that can make Marshall cry, introducing TAYLOR SWIFT!” Vee announces.

“TAYLOR IS HERE?!”I quickly whip my head up and I feel my knees buckle for a second.

“Courtesy of Eloise,” Venus informs me, “She knows all the best people in the industry.”

“ARE YOU TELLING ME,” I just can’t contain my excitement as I look to Eloise’s direction, “TAYLOR SWIFT IS HERE??”

Eloise flashes me a smile, “Consider it my gift to you, happy birthday!”

“YOU KNOW TAYLOR?” I really can’t get over it. Good lord, Taylor Swift is in this building right now.

“The one and only.” she laughs, and I figure that Eloise would know her- her family owned a huge record label.

Before I can even comprehend what’s going on, Taylor Swift casually walks through Venus’ door.

“Hi everyone!” Taylor Swift (OH MY GOD TAYLOR SWIFT) waves before walking up to me, “Hello, you must be Marshall, the birthday girl.” she says as she opens her arms to hug me.

“Heavens to Betsy! It’s Taylor!” I exclaim as I hug her. I couldn’t breathe, it was Taylor, Taylor Swift was hugging me. Oh MY GOD, try not to cry or freak out too much. It’s not like your childhood idol was standing right in front of you.

As I pull away from the hug, Taylor smiles. “I love you honey!”

“Oh my god, is that emotions?? from the Camille Marshall?” Poppy comments with a laugh.

Venus replies with a smirk, “Told you.”

I can’t believe it, Taylor Swift in the flesh. I needed to process this for a while as I sat on the ground for a while trying to not cry- Oh god, it was like my inner 12 year old was unleashed. “Oh my God, it's Taylor…”

“I’ve worshipped you since I was 12!” I mention, which right off the bat was already too much information. “I learned how to play guitar because of you! Oh My God!”

“Aw sweetie, I’m honoured.” Taylor smiles, and OH MY GOD she’s nicer than I thought she’d ever be.

“I think I’m gonna cry,” I say using one of my hands to cover my face and the other to fan myself. I’m pretty sure that I’m freaking everybody else out with this little freak out, but it appears that even Mal was star struck by Taylor.

“Oh don’t do that! I’m just so excited to be here for you” Taylor says patronizingly.

“I've wanted to meet you for years.” 8 years to be exact.

“Happy birthday Mars I'm going to check on the cake” Venus informs me before making another dash for the door and Taylor continues to socialize with the other guests at the party.

I’m surprised to see Mal walk up to me in a not-so-threatening manner- contrary to all the stories of terror told to me by the other girls. “You are SO lucky!”

“I KNOW, OH MY GOD! TAYLOR SWIFT IS LITERALLY HERE IN THE FLESH.” I turn to the equally excited princess (who I’m pretty sure was a fellow Swiftie) earning me an excited grin in reply.

Eloise laughs, “Well I think she has a song for you, any requests?”

I’m practically bouncing on my heels as I answer Eloise’s question. “OKAY I'M NOT 22 YET BUT CAN WE PLEASE SING TO 22?”

I’d request for any song from Taylor’s Red album- all of those songs were the soundtrack of many summers for me and 22 was my jam.

“You got it!” Taylor smiles as she finds a nice area to perform in and picks up her guitar. “This is, of course, dedicated to the birthday girl!”

As the pop country icon begins to sing, I remember that I owe Eloise a lot for bringing Taylor here, so I manage to walk to her side to show her some of my gratitude.

“Thanks a lot for bringing her and stuff.” I say smiling at her.

Eloise waves her hand casually, “Oh no problem! She was happy to do it”

“I-I just can't believe it! You don't know how grateful I am.” I admit to her, trying to thank her in the best way I can. We weren’t exactly the closest, but I still appreciated what she had done.

While I was trying to have a meaningful heart to heart with Eloise, I couldn’t help but overhear the bickering from the corner of the room.

“there is more than one corner in this room” Clove remarks bitingly.

“Go find one.” Brooks sharply responds.

“OR JUST GET A ROOM YOU TWO!” I yell back, obviously sensing some kind of tension between those two, nothing like that line to make people shut it oooor you know.. get together (though technically as a government employee, I’d have to advise against any possible treasonous act)

I try my best to sing along with Taylor, but I feel a bit of shame knowing that singing was never really my talent- but everyone seems to not die from my singing and patronizingly cheer us as Taylor continues to perform 22.

When we finish the song, Brooks yells for Clove to sing and I can’t help but laugh at the events that follow. Taylor was happy to share the stage with Clove but offered instead let Brooks sing a duet with her, to the entertainment of everyone else in this room- including me. God, those two nerds needed to get a room (though I’d advise against it, because technically, as a government employee, I had to advocate against any possible treason).

What proceeds to follow turns out to be a surprise duet whose chemistry was rivaled only by that opening song from the first High School Musical movie. It was a surprise that Clove and Brooks had known the harmonies to Everything Has Changed, and it was actually pretty decent for something that hasn’t been practiced. Apparently, everyone in the Schreave family somehow had unfairly good musical talent.

Just as their song ends and the two of them were recovering from the power of a Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran collab (and all their apparent embarrassment), everyone continues to mingle and have fun. Meanwhile, I was enjoying one the divine cupcakes as Quinn and Mal had quickly left that party, leaving Brooks on his own.

“It's okay Brooks you can have the cake!” Venus comes through the door with another bright smile on her face as she brings in the cake with Clara.

I’m shocked at its design, looking exactly like planes in formation mid air- a scene straight out of my memories. It was nothing short of spectacular as it all looked so realistic, and I know everyone was in awe of the cake’s design too.

Venus sets the cake the down on one of the tables before she walks up to me with a smirk, “So what did you think of the special guest?”  

“I may have cried... a little…” I reply.

“Mission Accomplished.” She smiles at me before she claps her hands together, “Okay! Lets cut this marvellous cake done by the amazing Clara Eclair!”

“Shout out to Clara. what a gal. you know how she’s doing? amazing sweetie.” Poppy remarks, and I laugh- she had the best side comments.

“Okay on the count of three let's sing! 1, 2, 3, Happy Birthday to you…” Venus leads as everyone begins to sing along. As meaningful as this moment was, I still felt the usual awkwardness of being the center of the “Happy Birthday” song- did I sing along? Clap my hands? Instead of those two usual options, I decide to smile waiting for the awkwardness to stop and live in the moment- until Brooks proceeds to raise his voice while singing, shocking everyone and leaving us in a fit of laughter.

As the song ends, I quickly blow the candles from the cake… and then I realize… “Oh shit, I forgot to make a wish.”

“Fuck, I shouldn't say shit.” I was in the presence of royalty and girls who all have me beat at etiquette. I cover my mouth, “Fuck, pardon my French.”

“Language!” Vee yells in mock sternness before giggling along with everyone else- I’m glad that no one took offense from my verbose vocabulary.

“Yeah, I'll just stop talking now.” I shrug, “Come on, let's eh cut the cake!”

As Venus begins to cut the cake, she dabs a bit of frosting on my nose, “I love you, hun!”

I wipe the frosting off my nose with a laugh, “Lots of love too, Vee.” God Bless Venus Vale.

We all enjoy the cake, marveling the baked good and arguing about who got pieces of the plane (which was also made out of chocolate) having fun before Venus suggests that we could begin the next part of her program, which was Truth or Dare.

Needless to say, I’ve never had a wilder game of Truth or Dare than the one I was playing with all these people. We were jumping into pools, fooling around, rapping, talking about old flames, teasing each other,and doing everything in good fun.

Throughout the night, we give each other dares more daring than the last one and enjoy each other’s company.

After performing a head stand for a dare, daring Clove to imitate someone, and the quick departure of Brooks, a knock on the door catches my attention and I walk to it- seeing that no one was going to get it (or everyone else was probably a little too drunk to hear it).

Opening the door, I’m caught off guard as I see Nate standing at the door with a poorly wrapped gift in his hands.

Apprentice Asks - Aurex

In an attempt to finally get some info out there about my apprentice and to fill her tag, I answered this ask from. It’s long, plus I don’t know how to answer things in a short way so it’s all below the cut...

1) Which character(s) is your apprentice romancing? What attracts your apprentice to them? Asra. Uh, can everything be an answer? Seriously though, Asra has a lot that attracts Aurex. How at ease he seems in almost any scenario and he’s pretty much always cheerful. His laugh. His dimples. How caring he is. His thirst for adventure. She’s just comfortable around him. Even without romance, they are incredibly close friends and they have respect for one another and that sort of thing is incredibly important to her.

2) If your apprentice was a romanceable character in The Arcana, what would their route be like? (Feel free to be as detailed or as vague as you’d like.) Hmm, I’m not really sure. She probably wouldn’t make a good romance option since she’s more of a slow-burn type of person and there isn’t any time for that in the game. In the most vague sense, her route would have magic, light-hearted teasing, and plenty of flirting and fluff.

3) How does your apprentice take their coffee? Do they even drink coffee? If not, what do they drink instead to put pep in their step? Aurex prefers drinking tea of any variety. Her foray into coffee territory has gone no further than café mochas and that’s as far as it’s going.

4) If your apprentice was attending a potluck, what would they take as their contribution? Either potstickers (favorite food) or cookies (favorite thing to bake).

5) What are some of your apprentice’s minor and major fears? What’s the best way to comfort them when afraid? - Minor fear – Aurex is somewhat afraid of rivers since it’s how she lost her parents. Other water is fine, just no rivers. - Major fear – I’m going to be really uncreative and say never regaining her memories. She hates being the one to know the least about herself.

Physical contact is the best way to comfort her. She likes if someone holds her hand or wraps her up in their arms.

6) Does your apprentice enjoy dressing up or would they prefer to just wear what’s comfortable? She enjoys dressing up. But Aurex thinks that dressing up and comfort don’t have to be mutually exclusive. Dressing up be damned if heels are involved though, that’s where she draws the line.

7) Is your apprentice happy with their physical appearance? If so, do they flaunt it? If not, what do they want to change? Aurex doesn’t flaunt it in an obnoxious way, but she is happy with her appearance and takes pride in it.

8) What would your apprentice want as a birthday gift? Jewelry. It is guaranteed to be a no-fail gift for Aurex and she is of the mind that one cannot have too many baubles so there’s no such thing as receiving too many gifts of jewelry either. Other things that would work are books and literally anything that someone said made them think of her because she’s a sap like that. Honestly, you could give the girl a pair of socks that you said made you think of her for whatever reason and she’d love them to pieces.

9) What is your apprentice’s natural stress response (fight, flight, or freeze) and how does that influence their actions when confronted with a stressful situation? Do they recover from stress quickly or does it affect them for hours afterward? Either fight or flight, which is literally what she has done in the story so far. (Attacking Julian and trying to gtfo Lucio’s chambers.) Though I feel like she might lean towards fight in most scenarios as she likes to deal with things head-on instead of ignoring it. How quickly she recovers depends on the situation. Scary things will linger for a while, other things she gets over pretty quickly.

10) What’s the first thing someone is likely to notice about your apprentice when meeting them for the first time? Do they have any other quirks that set them apart? Strictly appearance-wise it would be her eyes. Her hair is cut into blunt bangs that end just above her eyes plus the precisely drawn black liner draws attention to her golden eyes. Second thing would be her tattoos and the amount of jewelry on one body. Otherwise, people notice that she comes across as very comfortable in her own skin.

11) How does your apprentice act when meeting new people? Are they outgoing, shy, awkward, aloof? Do they like being the center of attention? Aurex is warm and friendly when first meeting new people. And even though she doesn’t know them, she makes people feel like she genuinely cares about them by giving them her attention. There isn’t much desire in her to be the center of attention, except when she’s dancing, so she’s completely okay with being on the sidelines.

12) How does you apprentice treat people in positions of authority? Does your apprentice believe they deserve respect just because of their position/status? She believes there is some level of respect due based on position/status. But there is also a point where no matter your status, if you’re being a dick and can’t be bothered to show respect to others then she has no respect for you. Aurex can’t stand bullies.

13) Your apprentice sees someone who is very obviously wealthy accidentally drop a small pouch of coins. What do they do? If it happened now, she would return it without a thought. However, when she was a street rat Aurex would have been conflicted but would have ultimately returned it and hoped they gave her a few coins in return. She avoided outright stealing if at all possible, due to leftover teachings from her parents still ingrained in her.

14) What was your apprentice’s reaction to Julian’s speech on the docks in Book VII? How did they deal with it afterwards? So, this one is a little tricky since while I play through his and Nadia’s route as Aurex, I don’t ship her with either of them so it’s merely informational for me. That being said, when I did play it I went with the “Fine, I’ll leave” option for Aurex and later the “I don’t want to talk about it”. Honestly, Aurex wouldn’t have been all that torn up about the break up since she keeps her heart fairly guarded and it takes her a while to develop any significant feelings worth being upset over. Plus, she would have been like “We weren’t together?” So, obviously that pretty much goes against everything in that part of the chapter.

15) How does your apprentice feel about sharing a bed with Asra in the shop? Short answer is Aurex likes sharing a bed with someone, especially Asra. She sleeps better when there’s another person nearby. Long answer is prior to finding out they share a bed I had been under the assumption that they had separate beds, so now I just blend canon with my now headcanon which is: They used to share a bed early on when Aurex needed the supervision, help, or whatever when Asra was helping rehabilitate her. But much like he needs to go on trips to hide his feelings from Aurex, he started to sleep in the small bed tucked into the back workroom when it became too much. But they still do share a bed on a fairly regular basis. Every time he comes back from one of his trips, they fall asleep together without fail after talking about it. Sometimes they just fall asleep while talking or practicing magic, not to mention naps, so it’s not really a structured thing. There are times when Aurex sleeps alone and times where she shares with Asra.

16) Does your apprentice enjoy the luxury of the palace and Nadia’s gifts or do they find it overwhelming? Both simultaneously. She enjoys splurging on frivolous pretty things occasionally and Nadia gives her pretty things so that’s great. It’s overwhelming in the sense that those gifts cost way more than she could ever afford, and the luxury of the palace is more than anything she is used to.

17) How does your apprentice react when confronted with the creature from the abandoned wing in Asra and/or Nadia’s routes in Book VII? What’s going through their head at the time? Afraid. Aurex remembers what happened to her the last time she encountered Lucio, which was not fun. And now he admits knowing her and seems to be looking for her, so it freaks her out. She can’t help but wonder if he’s been lurking around when she can’t see him.

18) How does your apprentice feel about Consul Valerius? Going with the fact that in her canon she has had only one encounter with him, she pretty much hates the man at this point. During the wine fiasco, he spilled it on Senka, so that was more than enough for her to take issue with him. Don’t mess with her familiar.

19) Is there a song or songs that you associate with your apprentice?  I actually have a playlist that was originally supposed to be for her, but it has now just morphed into an Aurex/Asra playlist and I regret nothing. Anyway, I have “IDGAF” by Dua Lipa. (Whose singing voice happens to be Aurex’s VC.) “IDGAF” has 1000% to do with her shitty ex. Oh, and “Freak Like Me” by NoMBe and “Dance” by POWERS, but only because I feel like she would like those songs, they don’t actually have any special meaning.

20) Is your apprentice friends with any other fan apprentices? My friend, @asrathemagician, and I often talk about our apprentices being friends and what not, so Noctis and Aurex are indeed friends. But hey, if any of you want our apprentices to be friends, go for it. Aurex is super friendly. You more than have my blessing.
