I had the dumbest thought the other day at work that we should just get those blow up puncher things and these dudes could settle their beef with those

Which me me think like oh, maybe they do something similar on the moby to settle beef

Cause like you’re on a giant pirate ship stuck with the same people all the time, there’s gotta be some peeps you just don’t vibe with. So instead of an all out brawl I was like huh maybe they just have some little fight club or something where they get the chance to just absolutely pound on eachother

Maybe some little cuffs to help keep devil fruit users from using their powers, and no weapons

The visuals give me Yusuke and Chuu fighting in the dark tournament, knives to their feets and just pounding on eachother

And the other crew members get to watch (serves as entertainment too!) and they bet on it and shit

Sometimes you just need to do something physical to get the irritation out of your system, so I can see it. These are fit guys too, so some No Haki/No DF fist fights aren’t going to do much damage, but there’s still the physical exertion.

And they can just yell at each other too.

Maybe sometimes someone wins the fight but the crew is collectively like “yo, you were the asshole, brother. Apologize.” And in that way you get to see the dynamics and culture of the ship.

Honestly it would explain why no one was sussed about Ace’s way of coping when he came into the crew. It’s a little different, but the situation wasn’t the same either, so it worked out.

I loved that scene in YYH too, it was just so raw. It was also a moment for Keiko and Yusuke too.

I like the idea.

I like the idea that, except for when someone was doing it just for fun, Teach never entered the ring. He never has a “beef” with someone. Everyone gets along with him, who would doubt him?

But also, yeah, seeing Thatch and Ace and Marco fight and realizing how gentle they are with you. You see Izou “fight” once, but this shit just keeps easily dodging until his opponent is tired then lays them out. He never drags anyone into the ring, but he won’t reject someone wanting a word with him.

Few do.

Only Marco’s ever landed a hit, and it took Pops stepping in to end that fight. Not that there’s a grudge or any bad blood, but they’re both monsters and things were dragging on too long.

X: How would you categorize your fanfic reading? Are you a voracious reader? Do you carefully pick and choose? Something in between?

It depends on the fandom! I mostly read One Piece and Yu Yu Hakusho these days, but in both cases I'm selective (in different ways).

For One Piece, I tend to filter by specific characters I'm interested in, mostly paired with reader-inserts or OCs. I'm thinking of dipping my toe into self-insert and transmigration fic. I've also read some interesting GEN fics about the canon cast. I don't ship anyone, so I've been avoiding canon/canon shipping stories for the most part.

I do not read Yu Yu Hakusho fanfiction anymore. It can be painful to see my headcanons or story beats reproduced without my consent and without thorough understanding of the thought that went into them, so it's just best I don't know what people are writing. Blessings upon all the writers still creating content for that fandom. You're amazing and we need you!

(And before anyone asks, yes, I've seen my very specific headcanons and story beats reproduced in others' works. Many times. I'm used to it, but that doesn't make it fun to see.)

I do miss reading YYH fic, admittedly, so if anyone has a glowing recommendation, I'll likely make an exception. So I guess update my classification to "highly selective!"

A4: What is your AO3/FFN username? Has it always been that?

I honestly cannot remember my FFN username. I had one, that's all I can remember. What I can tell you is it wasn't Kimium because I had my FFN account before high school.

A8: What was your first fandom? Are you still in that fandom now?

My first fandom is a tie between Sailor Moon and Pokémon. The first fandom I read fanfiction for was a tie between Inu Yasha and Yu Yu Hakusho. I'd say I'm still in the fandom for Sailor Moon, Pokémon, and YYH, but at varying levels. Sadly, I wouldn't consider myself in the Inu Yasha fandom currently.

C3: Is there anything that makes you nope out of a story? What is it?

I have to list these by novel and fanfiction as they're separate categories.

For a novel what makes me nope out of one so fast is when there is the following:

-A female protagonist who is "not like" the other girls or is a "rebel" or is an "outcast" or is "fighting the system". Sorry, but that's so overdone and boring majority of the time because no one wants to reinvent the story tropes.

-There is a Mysterious, Hot, Male who just Happens to Come into her Life. Sadly majority of the time they play this trope straight and make him the main love interest.

-When romance movies have the main male do things that are 100% illegal/stalker-like/creepy and play them as "cute" and "romantic".

-Too much world building/power systems. Look, I love world building and power systems as much as the next person. I am a shonen anime fan. However, when books have intense glossaries or too many maps in the front before I even begin to read, I'm checking out.

-To side note off this point when there are legitimate family trees in the beginning of the story and notes about who is who in the family I also check out so fast it hurts. Not saying I haven't read stories with those before (see Clytemnestra which I read about a month ago and enjoyed) but sometimes it's too much.

Fanfiction

-NOT SEPARATING YOUR DIALOGUE INTO PARAGRAPHS WILL MAKE ME BACK OUT OF YOUR FIC SO FAST.

-Too much "telling" and not enough "showing". I don't need explanations for everything. You can describe it too.

-Not keeping to the same perspective in a clear, concise manner. I don't mind POV shifts but you cannot do that between paragraphs between characters with no indicators. That's so confusing.

-Writing in first person perspective. I'm sorry... for fanfiction it doesn't work for me.

-Self-inserts/a lot of OCs/Characterxreader: I am not knocking people who like that in their stories, but for me it's not my thing.

C7: Who is your NOTP?

I dislike Gojo/Utahime from JJK so much. It's not even because I'm a big Satosugu shipper. It's because they've barely interacted in the series proper and when they do it's clear Utahime cannot stand Gojo. When people ship them all I can think of is that horrible, horrible romance trope cliché of "She hates him... but secretly loves him" or "they start disliking one another but then FALL IN LOVE". I cannot stand those tropes.

If those two had more scenes/interactions beyond surface level stuff then perhaps I'd buy a bit more into it as an idea, but for now I refuse to even entertain it.

Perhaps during the dark tournament arc and reader is sparring with Kurama when he finds out their ticklish. Hiei who is watching them from afar, intercepts and the two tickle reader.

AHH YU YU HAKUSHO!!! And Kurama my beloved!!! I adore him so much! Fair warning to you, friend- I haven't watched YYH in a hot minute, so if the characters seem a tad off I apologize! I hope you like it though!

The dark tournament was approaching, and you were entering alongside everyone. You were strong, but Kurama had concerns about what opponents you might be facing, hence why today you and him were sparring. If you could land a hit on him, you were gonna be okay.

“Watch your opponent closely, (Y/N). You never know what they have up their sleeve.” Kurama guided through blocked punches and kicks, your attacks proving to be futile. “If you leave yourself open, it’s all over.”

“Focus on the fight- I won’t go down that easily!” You grunted, dropping low and aiming a sweep kick at his feet. To your frustration, he jumped, evading it by a hair.

“Left yourself wide open.” He spoke from behind, jabbing two fingers into your ribs. “They could easily stab you here-” The squeal you released upon the touch made him pause mid sentence, brows raised. “What was that?”

“Er…nothing?” You offered, scrambling forward and onto your feet. “Nothing! Let’s get back to sparring-”

“They’re ticklish.” Hiei, who had been watching from afar, spoke up, appearing beside you with lightning speed. Fingers prodded your ribs without warning, making you squeal and back up. “Really ticklish.”

You looked between Hiei and Kurama, looking for the words to get out of this mess.

The redhead simply smiled at you, eyes dancing. “I suggest you run.”

You barely made it out of the sparring circle.

“AH! Ahehahahahhahaha! Hehhhheheeiehehehehi!” You cried, giggling up a storm when the small demon jumped on you, sending you crashing into the dirt with tickling fingers. “Doohohohohn’t doohohoho thahahahhat!”

“What did the fox tell you? Don’t leave your guard open, (Y/N).” Hiei clicked his tongue, fingers zooming across your torso as they found tickle spot after tickle spot. From behind, you felt Kurama squeeze the back of your knees, earning even more booming laughter. “Trust me when I say that you should listen to him.”

You learned that day the importance of protecting your blind spots.
