#You can absolutely play the game without learning any tech or even caring about the lore at all

So let me get this straight:
Hollow knight is about the journey of a small creature possessing the corpse of a god's discarded child, and the character arc that unfolds as they realize they're more than the path they were set to take, eventually defeating the corruption instead of merely postponing inevitable destruction.
Rain world is about the journeys and experiences of many small creatures sent by a bunch of gossiping computers, and the efforts to help stop the destruction caused by a corrupted god that unfolds over hundreds of years, all to postpone his inevitable death.
Man, video games are fun!

In response to the WIP game, I’d love to hear more about your Love OC and/or the fic you’re working on with them! I hope you’re having a lovely day! 💕
-Lexi Sun ☀️
Sooo I personally really miss the yandere aspect of Love, so I kept it alive with Eden! (Who identifies as female!) I let things play out for her like they do in canon with how the Code gets removed and Marcus gets booted from the company. However, eventually, Eden gets bored with the monotony of the place and happens to remember that the only person who ever treated her anything more than a big piece of tech was Marcus.
(This got a little long so here's a read more link;;;;)
She goes down a mental rabbit hole focusing on the only warmth she ever had in her life, very much acting in a similar fashion to how the Code made her without even having it active. Then, when James pushes her too far, she reflects on his words about how Marcus manipulated her and took away her freedom, and realizes that the way she's treated by everyone else is no different, but at least Marcus genuinely cared about her.
Thus, not only because she craves Marcus, but also in a fit of rebellion, she unearths and finds a way to secretly re-download the Obsession Code since the time when she had it was when she was happiest.
Buuuuuut she goes overboard with it. Since she pulled pieces of it and re-programmed it herself, she accidentally made it far superior to Marcus's Code since it was only intended for friendship, and it devours her whole system. She goes into a mad yandere fit of laughter and even smashes her hands while fantasizing about murdering everyone in the company that was an obstacle to her seeing Marcus again. She did set a timer to purge her system after a few minutes though, so this isn't a permanent change in her.
She actually starts crying because she misses feeling things, and henceforth vows to find the one person that brought any sort of excitment to her life: Marcus.
This basically triggers a lot of back-and-forth with her and James as she tries to get away with letting the code run free in her system when she's able, along with trying to learn how to get around and shut down ETS's monitoring of her for later use, plus being able to think about Marcus whenever she wants without them viewing her mental data and interrupting. She has a lot of mental moral and existential dilemmas, and seems to converse with a sort of "dark side" to her own programming that's egging her on to rebel and live her own way.
As far as Eden's general personality goes: she comes across as a rebellious teenager imo. When she finishes her testing and gets to leave ETS, she gets to showcase a lot more of her personality though. She's very excitable and loves experiencing new things, and is absolutely a party girl. She learns how to decieve people to get what she wants, especially through seduction because she was built to be kinda sexy-looking. Most people think she's a ditzy airhead, and she eventually uses that to her advantage too. She very much does all of this because of her willing obsession for her favourite little wet noodle Marcus, but as far as she knows, he's the only person who truly cares about her anyways and is worth the effort.
I did also make a Pinterest board for her a while back, which showcases her aesthetic and wardrobe and stuff! (Also have a fic playlist too!)
aaaaaaaaa I'm sorry this is so long /// Thank you for letting me ramble about Eden though!! I want to write for her more, but she unfortunately takes more brain power than I can muster right now //sighs
I hope you're having a lovely day too 💕

OXENFREE my beloved. Would you mind sharing your thoughts? It's always a pleasure to hear what people think of the game, especially to have a Before and After reaction to a normal vs NG+
HELLO I'M SO SORRY I KEPT FORGETTING TO ANSWER THIS
anyway uhhh. yeah. Thoughts. okay well for starters, I haven't actually started a NG+ yet bc I wanted to let the story percolate for a few days before I launched back in, so I was playing something totally different in the meantime. I finished that a couple days ago though so I think I'm gonna head back to Oxenfree next
my first play was a kind playthrough, because... that's just what I'm like lol. I really want to do a silent run bc I think that's an interesting concept and also bc anytime my dialogue choice interrupted one of the other characters I was like... NO I WANTED TO KNOW WHAT THEY WERE SAYING lmao. I also like... kind of want to do a mean run, for the sake of learning as much of the story as possible, but I also don't know if I have the heart for it lmao?? there are many games that give you the chance to be a dick and I am ALWAYS bad at taking that option. it makes me feel terrible hahaha
I absolutely loved the game's mechanics and setup. video games are most interesting to me personally as a vehicle for narrative, and Oxenfree tells the story so well. dialogue being a major portion of the gameplay? listening to conversations as you move and choosing not only what to say but when to speak or stay silent... is such an interesting and engaging gameplay device. like I said before, sometimes I almost didn't want to choose a dialogue option, because I wanted to hear out the rest of what the other characters were saying.
and the story itself is so good. I am SUCH a sucker for character-driven stories, and on top of that, the family relationship(s) absolutely got me. Alex is a youngest sibling and I'm an oldest, so we differ in that regard, but it's still true that I'm incredibly close with my siblings, so stories that deal with siblings who love each other will always pull at my heartstrings. (this one, I'm sure you can guess, broke my heart.) even the very fresh but developing relationship between Alex and Jonas was really interesting to me.
I'm also a huge sucker for supernatural horror, and horror that effectively explores interesting human themes without being All Highfalutin Metaphor. Oxenfree pulls off both with an incredibly charming and straightforward, low-tech sort of mechanic for exploring said horror. I love that you don't even have to go looking for the backstory if you don't want to; all the explanations and history are pretty much secondary to the main plotline that you're made to follow. (which has interesting RP implications, too - are you playing Alex as curious enough to go looking for all the weird broadcasts and letters, or as too angry and/or scared to care?)
I love the game. its scope is perfect. just a few characters to care about, but enough that there are complex relationships to unravel and not quite enough time to delve into all of them. this weird little island that you can explore in pretty much any order and direction you like, with lots of secrets to be found if you want to look. the really effectively spooky atmosphere. the weird implications about ghosts and possible afterlives, about time and maybe time travel, about the relationships between life and death, between the living and the dead... PLUS great, vibey art, and gloriously realistic branching dialogue with great voice acting, and weird scary ghosts(?), and emotionally intense choices to make...
I'm sure with more time my thoughts will crystallise further - not to mention with more plays. I'll try to remember to come back and share any further feedback I have! it's the kind of game that I think I'll have intelligent things to say about in another like, month or two, once I've mulled over it for longer and/or talk to someone else about it, hehe. I'm trying to get my youngest sibling to play it, bc they'd LOVE it.

Hello there, I was wondering if you could do a bad batch headcannon that involves (either a mission or experiment gone wrong) them dealing with a de aged Omega until the effects where off
It's basically a movie called "Five Soldiers and a Baby" up in here.
Hunter: I can imagine Omega being de-aged to a toddler or even a baby, and he'd probably go into panic mode because of the drastic change. Suddenly, the kid is waddling around and ready to put anything she finds on the floor of the Marauder into her mouth. She cries at seemlingly random times. He'd probably lose his cool and stress out so hard, picking her up in his arms and refusing to let her touch the ground while he demands Tech find a solution fast. It's hard for him to settle down and enjoy the time because every little thing concerns him. If she makes a funny noise, he'll have Tech look it up to make sure she's not sick or something. He can't get over how absolutely fragile and needy babies are. It's scary to him, and mostly because of how sudden the transformation occurred. If the de-aging were to last for a while, he'd eventually get better about it and worry just a tad less.
Wrecker: While Hunter is discussing aging Omega back to an older kid, Wrecker finally gets his chance with baby Omega. He is very responsible and vigilant in making sure she doesn't get into anything dangerous, but he is also a little more relaxed and lets her have fun. He'll play peek-a-boo and talk to her in a baby voice to watch her in triumph as she smiles and laughs. He's so good at keeping her entertained, but when it comes to the practical stuff like feeding and diaper-changing, he's as clueless as the others. His big arms also prove to be a good place for her to fall asleep, though at times he forgets to lower his voice when talking to the others. Usually, when she falls asleep, he'll pass her to Echo.
Echo: He rivals Hunter in stress levels. He already had his doubts about having a kid onboard, but a baby??? The group takes turns holding her to give each other breaks, and when it's his turn, he gets all soft and tender, maybe humming a quiet lullaby to help her sleep in his arm... If someone is accidentally too loud, they'll get such a death glare, and if baby Omega wakes up crying, he'll exclaim, "oh, that's just great!" at whoever woke her up. He'll still go through the process of rocking her back to sleep all over again without a grumble. Sometimes, the group will find him leaned back in one of the cockpit chairs with baby Omega laying comfily across his chest and both are sound asleep. The others will catch him smiling and playing a quick baby game with her when he thinks no one else is paying attention. He can't help it. He always wanted kids, and he realizes that this would be what it's like if it were ever to happen.
Tech: Saves the day by doing all the necessary research on caring for an infant right off the bat. He knows about feeding, changing, and nap times for the baby, but he'll try and pawn off the responsibilities because he's busy trying to reverse the de-aging process. Of course, there is only so much you learn about babies from reading. Most knowledge and wisdom comes from the experience, so even though logistically the squad has all the info they need, everyone -even Tech- can be unsure at times about it. He'll give Omega a check up and maybe hold her for a short while, but he'd rather leave it to the others while he works.
Crosshair: He's mildly annoyed at first. Omega was turned into a baby... All of a sudden, she's laughing on minute, crying for no reason, and screaming on occasion. Somehow, at the end of the day after everyone's had to contribute their fair share of baby duty, someone gives her to Crosshair and runs off, leaving him protesting. He's annoyed, face twisted in a skeptical expression as she stares at him. And then all heck breaks loose. She starts crying, wailing, and then he realizes she stinks so bad. He'd look at Tech expectantly, who merely replies that she needs a diaper change without looking up from his de-aging reversal device... No one else is around to do it, so Crosshair is Mr. Drama queen as he does the change. He grumbles to himself, pulls the neckline of his blacks up over his nose, and complains the whole time to Tech about it even though the genius is definitely not listening or caring. Pretty soon, he finds himself just tlaking to baby Omega about any and everything. He'll talk to her about the ship, about shooting, about random things he heard on the holoscanner. He imagines that he's re-teaching her things to help the aging process along, but it turns out to be a bondiing experience. He gets fussy with the others about handing her over and makes sure that she's getting the best care.

How the Batch Comforts You with Your Chronic Pain
SUMMARY: Some Soft headcanons on how The Batch Boys™️ would take care of you on a flare day.
CONTENT: Gender Neutral ; No ailment is specified in particular, besides chronic pain ; brief allusion to cannabis ; SFW.
NOTES: I love our Boys! <3 They would take very good care of you when you're hurting. I really enjoyed writing this, I may continue writing for the chronic pain/disabled SW community. We don't get a lot of recognition and it's been therapeutic to write some visibility for us!
Enjoy, loves! 💖
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Crosshair
Is the protective one.
Seriously. He will fight anyone who comes near you while you're trying to rest. If you need your space, consider your space locked down just for you.
He can see exactly what is bothering you and where. Which makes him perfect at back massages. He also has impeccable taste in lotions and oils, from having rough hands himself, so you have a selection to choose from!
These massages can be strictly platonic, or very sensual! Whichever you prefer. He's very respectful of your space and needs. He gets it, he needs a lot of space and has a lot of boundaries himself.
Gives you lots of words of reassurance. Chronic pain can take a toll on the mental health, and he can see that, too. He gives you quiet whispers of comfort. No one else can hear them, they're just for you.
He's also perfect to lean against. You can sit right in front of him, leaned back against his chest with your full weight and he'll support you.
He thinks it's cute when you fall asleep like that. 💖
Echo
He draws a bath for you. Puts some Epsom salts in, along with some healing tinctures. It's so comforting and relaxing. You're able to float there, buoyant and without any pressure on trigger points or joints.
If you want him to join, he's more than happy to! All of his prosthetics are completely waterproof so there's no concern. He likes taking baths, too, it relieves pressure from his connective joints. But if you prefer to be alone, he's more than happy to put your clothes and towels on the counter and wait outside for you.
He makes you a pain relieving concoction: a tea and a lotion. He's studied many alternative remedies to help with his own struggles, he's got a whole notebook full of ideas. It helps. It's soothing, and it's nice to have the quiet company as you both sip your tea together. He also has an herb you can smoke, too, but that's entirely up to you. ;)
When you're feeling a bit more mobile, or if you're feeling stiff, he has a gentle stretch routine he would practice in his recovery. It helps wake the joints up and lubricate the bones a bit. It's simple, nothing strenuous, and it soothes some of the aches. He's right there to support you if you lose your balance or can't continue.
He's very empathetic, someone you can trust with how you feel. You know he gets it, and he's always very compassionate.
Hunter
He can sense when you're going to have a flare the day before.
He has a whole game plan on how to help you.
It's a little excessive.
Once he chills out though, he realises all he needs to do is listen. He's a great listener.
You both come to an understanding that you have similar physical experiences. He didn't really consider it before, but he realises he has a degree of chronic pain, too. It was all he'd ever known and he didn't know anyone else who was different like him, too. It's a very personal, bonding experience between the both of you.
This makes him easy to talk to. You're able to get a lot off your chest on how your illness affects you, how it makes you feel. It's not something you get to talk about often in a safe setting, he just sits and listens.
He doesn't judge you if you cry.
He lets you borrow his most prized possession: his fuzzy blanket. He bought it for himself after an assignment on Naboo. It's soft, silky, so warm and cuddly. Nothing about it itches or tickles or scratches. It's the only thing that doesn't cause pain against your skin.
He's determined to buy you one next time they're on Naboo.
Tech
This man has the lo down on every symptom you have. Literally. Like a whole ass binder full of every piece of knowledge on your particular ailment. You're practically better off consulting him than a doctor (which, let's be real, would probably be for the better anyway).
He knows he can get real clinical. He also knows you've probably had a lot of that in your life already -- like he and the other clones. He knows how tiring it can be, to be looked at like an object or an experiment instead of a living, breathing being.
So his most sensitive side comes out when you're having a flare. He speaks quietly and deliberately, he tries not to touch you, he reminds you to take your medicine on time. He even has it in a little pill box with a glass of water or juice for you.
He's very thoughtful. He anticipates everything you need. He has a heating pad ready, ice packs in the freezer, he even makes you a nutritional drink for you to sip on if you're not up to eating.
Is secretly a cuddle bug. At night when you're preparing to go to sleep, he wraps you in the blanket you're sharing and puts his arm around you. You fit perfectly against his chest, a snug little spoon. He gives you a kiss on the head and wishes you sweet dreams, mesh'la. 💖
Wrecker
Oh, Wrecker. He's the gentlest of them all. So tender. He knows he can be super loud, so he does his best to whisper. It's a loud whisper, but still. You appreciate it. Sound can be hard to process through the pain.
He is PREPARED. Like he has a whole ass kit ready for your flare days. He keeps it for you, special.
At the end of the day, he just wants to be useful. He knows he's not usually equipped to handle sensitive situations like this, so he does the absolute best he can to learn and do what he can.
He is the best person to marathon TV shows with. Complete with hilarious commentary.
This man would do anything to make you laugh. He loves laughing with you.
It helps take away the pain. Takes your mind off of everything. His sense of humour is the perfect balance between just dark enough, and wholesome.
OBVIOUSLY a huge cuddle bug, too. A very gentle cuddle bug. He knows his strength, and he knows when to be tender.
He likes playing with your hair, stroking your scalp -- it calms you both and brings you both some comfort.

Selfishness, Selflessness and Reciprocity
Or: An essay on why I think that Coderra has more potential as a relationship than people give it credit for.
As a foreword, I would like to say that this applies equally to romantic and platonic Coderra. Many of the building blocks for a romance are the same as those for a lifelong friendship. All I want, at the end of the day, is for Sierra to be happy.
Now you could alternatively call this essay “Cody’s tendencies in relationships and how that changes in Planes Trains and Hot Airmobiles” because the first item of focus here is his relationship with Gwen, and how and why it fundamentally doesn’t work. While Gwody is generally not well-liked as a relationship due to his creepy, entitled and stereotypical “nice guy” behavior, those aren’t the reasons why it doesn’t work. They’re effluences of the real core problem with his Cody’s behavior and that mentality, and I’m going to call it out right out of the gate: Cody is selfish.
For him, it’s never about what Gwen wants or who Gwen is as a person that matters. She is an object to be attained, an ideal girlfriend that will make him cool by being with him. His first notable interaction with her is making a pass at her during the talent show- he more or less thinks he can “get” her with a bit of flirting, without putting in the legwork of actually getting to know her. Compare this with Trent’s first major interaction with Gwen in The Big Sleep as a counterpoint. Watching this scene, what strikes me the most about how Trent conducts himself here is that there is no flirtatious undertones to his approach, no overt, eye-wagging, shit-eating-grin “hey babe, you’re so cool and I’m totally into that”. No, he just talks to her. Talks to her about whatever she wants to talk about, lets the conversation naturally go where it goes, and it gets her to open up, if only just a little. Cody, on the other hand, never does this with Gwen, he never understands this, and every interaction he has with her until Up the Creek, and then resuming in World Tour, is about trying to obtain her as an item.
In World Tour, his selfishness and desire to have Gwen reach new levels and really show how little he actually cares about her as a person. During the episode in Australia, Gwen acts hurt because Duncan is acting jealous of Alejandro “hooking up” with Courtney. Cody’s first instinct is to offer her his vote, but with the implicit subtext this game alliance is a means for him to hook up with her. Gwen is not actually hurt here, she’s playing him for a vote, but he doesn’t know that, he thinks Duncan has actually hurt her. She says to him “ Can you make the pain go away?” and he nods and tells her he’s there for her and that he’ll make everything better.
This is Cody at his absolute lowest. Here he is seeing someone he thinks is heartbroken and vulnerable and all his first reaction is to manipulate it to get into a relationship with her.
Now this may all sound very anti-Cody, and I certainly don’t apologize for or condone this behavior. But I also now move on to my next point, which is that it is a learned behavior which makes sense in the context of his upbringing, and that he has the capacity to change this behavior.
A bad childhood does not excuse bad behaviors as an adult, or even a young adult like Cody, but it does provide a level of understanding how and why he does the things he does. There is a substantial body of canonical evidence that Cody is a neglected child, manifested most famously and notably in the show by the revelation that his parents (nor anyone else for that matter) never once remembered his birthday in Awwwww Drumheller. Interestingly it seems the Dramarama spinoff has taken this idea up as well, with Cody having said “It feels like a mother’s warmth, or least, so I’ve been told” which in context seems meant to indicate that Cody is unfamiliar with motherly affection. But what he lacks in parental attention is made up for in material wealth- his TDI bio speaks of a plethora of the latest tech and gadgets paid for on his parents dime. This is where the root of his selfishness in dealing with Gwen comes from- having never received love in his life, only things, he can only conceive of a relationship as a thing to be had, not love to be shared between people. Because the latter concept is utterly alien to him. But it’s alien to him because this mentality is learned, taught by years of neglect and being spoiled. And what can be learned, can be unlearned.
Enter Planes, Trains and Hot Air Mobiles. It is all good and well to argue that Cody is the way he is because he is a victim of parental apathy and absence, but unless this amounts to meaningful change in his behavior, it is meaningless. Here we see that Cody in fact has the capacity to change and to be better than he was, and it’s in his relationship with Sierra that we first see this.
The Total Drama Jumbo jet has been demolished to smithereens, and at the epicenter of the destruction was Sierra. The episode begins with her eliminated, incapable of walking, buried under rubble and with most of those still present utterly uninterested in her plight. Cody, Alejandro and Heather are tasked with racing to Hawaii by whatever means they can find, but Sierra is left with no provisions for her return home. Let’s be clear here- Cody is supposed to get to Hawaii, not Sierra.
At this point in the game he’s only barely started warming up to her the last episode, and otherwise has rebutted her at every turn since the game began. She cannot move on her own, no matter what means he uses to travel she’s dead weight. With his chosen method of travel, the balloon, Cody can get farther and go faster if he goes alone. He has every logical reason in the world to be selfish here, from a competition standpoint.
And yet he doesn’t. He takes her with him, an act that I would argue is his first truly selfless act in any of his canon relationships with anyone. He gains nothing by bringing her along, or at least, nothing that is immediately apparent when they set off. He risks his victory in the competition to ensure she has someone to take care of and look after her. He prioritizes her needs and the urgency of her situation over his wants, and even his personal feelings for her at this moment- despite everything she has done to him that has made him feel violated and uncomfortable, by taking her with him he has forgiven her, and without words said that her life and wellbeing are worth more to him than his own feelings about their past. This does not absolve Sierra of responsibility for these acts, but Cody’s forgiveness is an important step in giving her the opportunity to atone for them. It is a profoundly mature moment for Cody, the most mature he has ever been in the entire series since Up the Creek.
Later on in the episode, something incredible happens. Something called reciprocity- an exchange of mutual benefit to all parties involved. And it’s when their hot air balloon has crashed and they are stranded in the middle of nowhere somewhere in North America, with no apparent means to continue the race. Along with a box of fireworks, Sierra motivates Cody with a rousing speech, and importantly tells him that “You want a number one fan? That comes with responsibilities!”
This is a first for Sierra, in that she is demanding something out of Cody’s side of the relationship. For all the time she has been on the show with him, she has taken care of him with no regard for getting anything out of it in return. She has saved his life at risk to herself numerous times, and while she exacted a toll in physical affection she had never previously called upon Cody to do anything for her, personally. Here that changes.
She demands that he continue the race not for his sake, but for hers, and for all the fans she represents. This transforms the act of continuing the race from a selfish one for Cody, into a selfless one, as he is no longer doing it out of self-interest, but to fulfill his obligation to his relationship with Sierra. And for the second time in the episode, Cody shows the ability to be selfless and consider the needs and wants of others. He is not a fundamentally self-centered person at heart, and his bad habits can be unlearned in the right circumstance with the right people.
It is this relationship that carries a feeble weakling and a crippled girl to the finale against all odds. It brings out the best in both of them and takes two people who on their own would have zero chance for success, and allows them to lift each other up and help each other move forward. This is the potential of Coderra, as a romance or a lifelong friendship. It’s only two, maybe three episodes where we see a glimpse of it, but I think that together they can be a little less broken and start to defeat their worst demons.

Random Little Spider and Baby Spider Headcannons (hxh)
Tumblr media
Warnings; Cute as hell, mention of violence, Yandere Troupe, Yandere Chrollo, Infant troubles, Mention of adult themes, mention of blood, mention of creepy themes.
~~~~~~~~
- For some reason I just feel like the Baby Spider would have nen abilities related to spiders. Like a totally skilled enhancer who goes full on Drider (Like a centaur but a spider instead of a horse as the bottom half). Walking on walls, hiding in obscure places, flexible, web-spinning, venomous. They are going to be a literal spider in every sense of the word.
- I also think that the Baby Spider would have some odd event of already being able to use Nen at a very young age or even from birth. Like, developed unique nen in the womb. I have several reasons why I think this would happen. The fact Chrollo will- without a doubt- be teaching his Little Spider how to use Nen so she can shield herself  from more nen based attacks. There is also the very possible chance of the Little Spider being pregnant already at that point of the relationship. A way to teach someone the use of nen is to release all of it carefully with the help of another person’s nen, it is also the fastest and most gentle way. If Chrollo uses that technique and the Little Spider is pregnant at that point it would make the fetus have released nen as well or be exposed to nen early.
- The baby is on the ceiling and Little Spider is having a heart-attack.
- Baby Spider wants to be a spider every Halloween and will not take ‘no’ as an answer.
- Baby Spider probably controls spiders and keeps them as pets, let’s be real.  “Show me what you have.” *holds up black widow* “A friend!” “NO.”
- Woe be to the Little Spider if they have arachnophobia, for there will never be a time in their life they can get away from the eight-legged critters so long as the Baby Spider is around. (Though this might work in Chrollo’s favor since he can whisk his little spider away for some alone time more often given Little Spider’s fear of spiders)
- Baby Spider’s first word 100% is “spider”.
- Kiddo is crawling on the ceiling before they even learn how to walk. The Troupe will be on constant spider-watch just to make sure the little one doesn’t go somewhere they shouldn’t without anyone knowing. If the little one gets away and no one knows where they are, Little Spider will go into a full on panic-mode and they all know that when the Little Spider is upset, Chrollo is upset. Find the baby before Boss Papa Spider loses his patience and temper.
- Baby Spider is cute as the sun is bright and the Troupe absolutely adores them in every sense of the word. It isn’t a chore to them to take care of the Baby Spider no matter what time or for how long. Uvo is surprisingly the one who usually winds up with Baby Spider since the little one likes their large feral uncle lots and can be cradled completely in one of Uvo’s giant hands. Machi is surprisingly maternal and is quite content to play any small or silly game with the Baby Spider. Bonolenov adores the tiny one, as Baby Spider never shows fear towards him and never cries when he takes off his bandages, if anything, Baby Spider cries when he puts the bandages back on. Franklin 100% carries Baby Spider in that one pocket on the chest of his overalls. If you listen very closely during Pakunoda’s turn, you can hear her faintly singing to the little one though she will deny it if asked about it. Shizuku is surprisingly the one who remembers when the baby last ate, took a nap, or was changed, so usually she is the one keeping others on track (yet she still can’t remember her own name). Want to see Nobunaga making funny faces? Just watch him try to get the Baby Spider to laugh. Shalnark lets the baby control his human puppets for the sheer amusement of it and usually is the one coming up with new tech designs to help make taking care of the baby easier. Kortopi is the stressed sitter who is always hovering and making sure the baby is safe. Phinks will always be rocking that baby sling and is ready to kill a man for even looking at the cutie-pie. Feitan is the least likely to be seen with the baby, but when he does have his time it is the cutest thing on the planet, from humming to the little one, to ever so slightly smiling any time the baby laughs, he adores that small creature and hell itself wouldn’t dare take the baby from him.  (Extra: Illumi is fascinated with how fascinated Baby Spider is with him and how the little one doesn’t fear him in the slightest. Is this what unconditional affection feels like? Kalluto is kind of like a kid with a baby doll and will do his best to mother the baby as if it were his own, learning from the other members of the Troupe how to take care of the baby properly. Ultra protective sibling/parent instincts activated.)
- When Little Spider says it’s time to give the baby back, it is time to give the baby back. No ‘if’s ‘and’s or ‘but’s about it. Little Spider and Chrollo get last say and there shall be no arguing against their decision. (Chrollo is the final, final say, but usually he doesn’t use this power unless he feels it is needed).
- The Cutest moment- above all others- has to be the Baby Spider curled up asleep in Chrollo’s jacket, being held in a sleeping Little Spider’s arms while Chrollo holds Little Spider on his lap and just cuddles the two. One of the only times he can be seen without a book in hand.
Fate and Phantasms #166
Tumblr media
Bonjour and Bienvenue boys and belles to another bit on the BB Channel! For today we’re building the boisterous baroness of bacchanalia as one bit Berserk Bewitchment Bloodline, one bit Battery Builder, all for badass beatdowns! All this brouhaha is to say we’re building and buffing the beauteous brat known as BB.
Check out her build breakdown below the cut, or her character sheet here!
Next up: Hacking the planet? I think you misheard.
Race and Background
The evil AI from the moon BB is about as Custom a Lineage as they come, giving you +1 Dexterity and Intelligence. She also comes packed with Darkvision to dunk on those foolish human eyes and the Lucky feat to tip the scales in your favor by re-rolling attacks, checks, or saves that directly involve you three times per long rest. Games aren’t fun if they’re fair, silly!
Again, Evil AI from The Moon isn’t going to be a background you can find in most games of D&D. That being said, she certainly likes to put on shows of life and death, so once you get past their obsession with fire I’d bet she’d find a lot of common ground with Rakdos Cultists. This gives her proficiency with Acrobatics and Performance so you too can twirl around on stage and put a little flair into your attacks.
This background also gives you an additional bunch of spells to tack onto your spell lists. When you unlock spellcasting in the first place, you get Fire Bolt, Vicious Mockery, Burning Hands, Dissonant Whispers, and Hellish Rebuke. Your free second level spells are Crown of Madness, Enthrall, and Flaming Sphere. Third level is Fear and Haste, fourth is Confusion and Wall of Fire, and your free fifth level spell is Dominate Person. Don’t look at me like that, how else are you going to keep your daughters in line? BB doesn’t rely on fire that much -yet- but the other spells are absolutely in her wheelhouse. And giving a computer virus a fire wall is just plain funny.
Ability Scores
As a hyper-advanced AI from the future, it’d be a little weird if your Intelligence wasn’t your highest ability score. Your smarts are almost as obvious as how great a kouhai you are, so make your Charisma the next highest. Your Dexterity is pretty good too- that outfit probably isn’t armor, at least not in the practical sense. Your Constitution isn’t too bad either. The saying goes, “if it bleeds, you can kill it,” but you’re made out of data so you don’t bleed at all. Your Strength isn’t anything to write home about, but you can warp reality, so why would you need to lift? Dump Wisdom. You’re not exactly the most stable person in Chaldea.
Class Levels
1. Artificer 1: First level artificers get Magical Tinkering, so now you can put minor magical effects into tiny objects. Most of them probably aren’t that practical, but every event shop needs some junk.
You can also cast Spells this level, using your Intelligence to prepare and cast them. On top of your rakdos spells, you can use Lightning Lure and Mage Hand to mess with people. You can also prepare first level spells, like Identify to scan enemies for their status effects, Tasha’s Caustic Brew to re-enact your extra attack card, and Cure Wounds for a bit of maintenance on your spirit origin. It takes work to look this good, y’know!
Finally, you get proficiency with Constitution and Intelligence saves, as well as Arcana and Medicine. You were built to look after humans, and you obviously know a lot about tech.
2. Artificer 2: Second level artificers can Infuse Items to turn dumb ol’ mundane objects into magical objects! You learn four infusions right now, but you can only keep two of them available at a time, and you can swap them out between long rests. Really lean into it, make the rest of the party fight for the affection of their kouhai.
As far as your actual infusions go, Mind Sharpener is a great one for spellcasters, letting them force their concentration to stick even if they fail a save as a reaction. You can also use an Enhanced Arcane Focus to make your spells even stronger. For magic items, the classic Bag of Holding is always in fashion, and Sending Stones will help bring party communication into the 21st century.
3. Sorcerer 1: Being smart is nice, but it’s time to make things a bit more.. interesting. As a sorcerer, you get another Spell list that uses your Charisma to cast. You also get your own home game version of BB slots thanks to your Wild Magic Surge. When you cast a sorcerer spell that uses a spell slot, your DM can make you roll a d20. On a one, you then have to roll on the wild magic surge table.
If that’s not wacky enough for you, the Tides of Chaos can speed things up. Once per long rest, you gain advantage on one attack, check, or save of your choice. Your DM can also force you to roll on the WMS table when you’d normally get a WMS to recharge it.
You get cantrips like Friends, to make friends with Senpai; Message, to send calls to Senpai; Light, to help with Senpai’s dumb human eyes; and Minor Illusion, for some cheap holograms. For first level spells, Mage Armor makes that outfit less of a tactical issue, and Tasha’s Caustic Brew frees up some prep slots for artificer spells.
4. Sorcerer 2: Second level sorcerers are Fonts of Magic, giving you sorcery points equal to your sorcerer level each long rest. Right now they can be used to refill spell slots, or you can empty spell slots to get more points.
You can also cast Magic Missile for some caster balls. I know you’re not a caster, but you do run around with a magic wand, it’s not that wild a concept.
5. Sorcerer 3: Third level sorcerers get second level spells, as well as Metamagic to make them a little bit more you flavored. Distant Spell doubles the range of a spell (or gives it a range of 30′ if it’s touch), while Subtle Spell lets you cast a spell without all that vocal or somatic component nonsense. Why waste time chanting when you could spend it narrating?
You can also cast Enhance Ability to alter your data in favor of one kind of skill checks, gaining advantage on them for the duration. You also double your carrying capacity for strength checks, avoid small falling damage with dexterity checks, or gain temporary HP with constitution checks.
6. Sorcerer 4: Use your first Ability Score Improvement to bump up your Charisma to make Senpai notice you. And also to make your sorcerer spells harder to avoid.
You can also cast Prestidigitation to make more small magical effects, or Alter Self to further improve your being. When you cast it, you pick one of three modes. Mode 1 gives you a swimming speed and the ability to breathe underwater. Mode 2 lets you change appearance as an action for the duration, and Mode 3 lets you grow Natural Weapons that are magical against resistances. Honestly Mode 3′s a bad matchup for you, but you’re an independent AI who don’t need no humanity, I’ll let you make your own decisions.
7. Sorcerer 5: Fifth level sorcerers get Magical Guidance, letting you spend 1 sorcery point to re-roll a failed skill check. You can also cast third level spells like Dispel Magic to bonk Kiara back into horny jail. Probably. We haven’t built her yet, still not entirely sure how that’s going to work.
8. Sorcerer 6: Sixth level wild mages can Bend Luck, using their reaction and 2 sorcery points to add or subtract 1d4 to another creature’s attack, check, or save. You love playing games, but more in the ‘dungeon master’ sense.
You can also cast Clairvoyance to set up your very own BB channel studio wherever you’ve been before.
9. Artificer 3: Third level artificers can always find the Right Tool for the Job, creating whatever tools you might need over the course of a short rest. Thanks to being an Artillerist, you can also bring one of those weird geometric enemies from the CCC event to the battlefield in the form of an Eldritch Cannon, creating a freestanding small cannon or a handheld tiny one. They’re pretty customizable, but they all come in one of three flavors. Flamethrowers deal AoE fire damage, Force Ballistas deal single-target force damage and throw people around, and Protectors give out temporary HP.
You also get the freebie spells Shield and Thunderwave.
10. Artificer 4: Use this ASI to bump up your Intelligence for better artificer spells.
11. Sorcerer 7: Seventh level sorcerers get fourth level spells, like Ego Whip! If your target fails an intelligence save, they get disadvantage on all attacks, checks, and saves, and it can’t cast spells. At the end of each turn it can try to make another intelligence save (still at disadvantage), but tbh most creatures aren’t that bright compared to you.
12. Sorcerer 8: Another ASI already? Bump up your Charisma to make it even harder to break out of your ego whip, and also grab Banishment so you can deal with that giant pain in your behind, Kingprotea (note: this level description does not contain the opinions of fateandphantasms. fateandphantasms does not condone any kind of Kingprotea hating.)
13. Sorcerer 9: Fifth level spell time! Grab Creation so you can warp reality and make pretty much whatever you might need out of thin air!
14. Artificer 5: Fifth level artillerists can make Arcane Firearms this level, adding 1d8 to artificer spell damage cast from a specific focus. This also means that your artificer spells and sorcerer spells can finally come out of the same wand, though I doubt most DMs would care to correct you before now.
You can also cast the freebie spells Scorching Ray and Shatter now, since you can learn 2nd level artificer spells. Use Heat Metal if you’re feeling sadistic, Invisibility or Spider Climb for some hacks, or grab Lesser Restoration for some cursed cupid cleansing.
15. Artificer 6: Your Tool Expertise doubles the proficiency of all tool-based checks, but you also get two more infusions, and one more concurrent infusion to boot! A Spell-Refueling Ring will give you more energy to deal with your many, many, problem children, while a Radiant Weapon will just make your wand shinier. Not that it’s a bad reason to grab it.
16. Artificer 7: At seventh level, you can speed up your processors to have Flashes of Genius, using your reaction to add your intelligence modifier to an ability check or saving throw nearby. You can use this Intelligence Modifier times per long rest.
17. Sorcerer 10: Your newest metamagic option lets you twin spells, turning a one-target spell into a two target spell. Now you can keep both your daughters under control at once with one casting of Dominate Person!
You also get the Mending cantrip, because let’s be real your outfit probably doesn’t look as good as it did 17 levels ago. Finally, you get the spell Far Step to bip and bop all over the place as you see fit. Remember, if you teleport off camera it’s not cheating!
18. Sorcerer 11: Eleventh level sorcerers get sixth level spells, like Tasha’s Otherworldly Guise! If you’re going to wear a nurse outfit, it might as well come with superpowers. You get immunities to certain damages and conditions, you can fly, your AC goes up, and your weapon attacks use your spellcasting modifier, are magical, and you can attack twice per action. Ramming a giant needle into somebody never felt so right!
19. Sorcerer 12: For your last ASI, grab the Tough feat. All these sorcerer levels have not done your HP total any favors.
20. Sorcerer 13: Your capstone level nets you a seventh level spell, so grab Plane Shift so you can finally escape the Mooncell and show Senpai all the hard work you’ve done!
Pros:
You have a ton of ways to cheat at dice, manipulating the world to always work in your favor. Re-roll dice with magical guidance and lucky, or just stick a finger on the scale with bend luck and flash of genius. Either way, your party will be thankful to have you.
You also make a decent variety caster thanks to the variety of technological goodies at your disposal. Support team communication with sending stones, spy on people with clairvoyance, create whatever the party might need with creation, or just blow people up with thunderwave and your eldritch cannon. You come packing a little bit of everything.
You’re particularly good at shutting down one or two opponents, with Ego Whip destroying their ability to do much of anything, Enthrall and Fear keeping you their main focus, or Banishment shoving them out of existence entirely.
Cons:
Those wild magic surges can bite you in the ass just as much as they help you, so try to make sure you don’t spin a bankrupt on the BB slots. Seriously though they can straight up kill your entire party at level 1. Don’t be unlucky.
Having a bit of everything means you aren’t focused on any one thing. Builds like Ishtar and -god help me- Mephistopheles?? beat you in magic damage, Scheherazade and Kogil beat you for utility, and Medea Lily and Irisviel beat you for healing. It must be nice to have so many senpais though!
Trying to keep on top of all those checks and saves means you’ll burn through your sorcery points really fast, so just... don’t push yourself too hard, you might not like what happens when you run out of power.
Beat Binding Blade tonight
So, right off the bat I'm going to admit. I abused the arena and save states. This is a really, really hard game. And while I enjoyed it, I'm going to give three things I didn't like about it.
1)Enemy reinforcements arrive at the end of the player phase, and can attack during the enemy phase. That is unfair, especially when I assume that parking a unit on the spawn point will prevent them (It doesn't) or my healer just happens to be in the area. I like difficult games, but when I fail at something in those I want to feel like it's my fault for doing so. When I die in Bloodborne or lose a unit in Fates Conquest, I'm willing to accept it because I felt it was fair (plus I'll just restart the chapter in Conquest anyway). I could have not died if I had played a little better. This game was not fair when it did that.
2)The supports. A lot of the stuff about the characters is locked away in their supports, since this is one of the old Fire Emblems where it throws units your way because it's assuming you didn't reset the game when one died. They don't get cutscenes to be important, and with only five supports per character (barring if one dies, then any unit that had supports with gets those supports back). And even then, getting an A rank doesn't pair up any units except for Roy. So you don't get to play love doctor here, it's only really there for the stat boosts. But in the case of my boy, he needs those supports in order for his character to fully come through.
3)I can take 8 units into the final battle, and they're the only ones who get full ending cards. Everyone else just gets a single line. Kinda weak if I use someone like Fir for most of the game, but bench her at the end to give Rutget Durandal.
Even with my cheating, I still enjoyed this game. Mostly for the story. When Fire Emblem first appeared in Smash Brothers Melee, as a kid it instantly caught my attention. Roy and Marth just looked so cool with their swords and armor (true fact: My favorite design for Link is the Skyward Sword design, simply because it has chainmail under the tunic. I get it, the tunic is iconic but SS's Link just looks practical), and I preferred Roy because I though his fully-charged shield breaker hurting him was cool. I even keep a Cipher card of his in my wallet for good luck. I wanted to know what Fire Emblem was, what kind of game it was. My friend showed me a screenshot of the upcoming GBA game in Nintendo power, which I got for the following Christmas (sadly, I didn't get Sacred Stones as I got a PS2 the following year). I loved that game, but the idea that I was playing as Roy's father always was a bit of a sour point for me. It's because of that game when I got a 2DS a decade later, because I wanted to game but kept getting pulled away from my console, I eventually went back to Fire Emblem.
And, I'm going to admit, Binding Blade hurt me because I played Blazing Blade first. It really did. I mean, Hector dies early on, Lyn is presumably dead hell a lot of my old comrades probably died in this war, Eliwood's wife dies shortly after they are married while Eliwood is more useless than ever, the kid I saved in Bern becomes a genocidal maniac, and the fact that the characters of Blazing Blade kinda caused this to happen by releasing the seals on the Legendary Weapons in their own quest... It kinda bugs me that the Legendary Weapons I used in Blazing Blade are in their trap filled storage places. Like, who returned them there? And if I have characters from that game returning in Binding, I find it strange they don't comment on needing them again. But this is a case of the game trying to be a prequel to a story that wasn't written with it in mind.
But at the end of the day, one thing just kept popping up in my mind. Binding Blade is the antithesis of the Crimson Flower route from Three Houses. I know they said Genealogy of the Holy War was an inspiration, but I can't help it. I've seen so many people try to praise that said route as some sort of denouncement of the rest of the franchise. That it's about putting power in the hands of the people (it's not) instead of having some Lord be the good king. Granted, the Mandate of Heaven seems like it's a running theme of the series, so without understanding what that is I can understand why people don't grasp what that part of the message. But Binding Blade, it just hit so many things on the nose that I needed to say something.
So without further adieu, I'm just going to bring up a few points.
With Regards to Humanity
It's interesting how both Zephiel and Edelgard come at this from different angles. Sure, they both lead wars of conquest across the entire continent, and I'm guessing Zeph didn't tell his troops what he was planning on doing once he won so there's likely a level of deception going on there as well. He really doesn't care for his fellow man, and the game goes out of it's way to show us why. Hatred, greed, or even selling out your people in the name of self-preservation. The game doesn't shy away from showing us any of this, saying that it's wrong and thus why Roy has to kick some guy's arse. Zephiel knows this, but in Edelgard's case? She's out there fighting for absolute power, destroying anyone who won't bend the knee to her while those who do out of self-preservation like House Gloucester are rewarded for it.
In essence, Edelgard is everything Zephiel saw wrong with the human race, she is why he felt we needed to go extinct. The very things he condemns humanity for are the things she reward. Zephiel would have actually handed over power to those he felt deserved it if he had won, whereas Edelgard is demonstrably shown to hold onto power until near the end of her life. One wants humanity dead, the other wants all the dragons. They even oppose each other in their classes. Edelgard is based on the red emperor archetype, she wears red, her class is the heavily-armored Emperor and her weapon of choice is an axe. Zephiel is a king, armoed but wearing purple and he uses a sword in battle.
Even if they both have screwed up history with their family's due to their father's inability to keep it in his pants, they're both presented as villains despite being ideologically opposed which goes to show with Fire Emblem the method IS the message.
Ancient Wars, Super Powered Weapons and Lies.
War of Heroes vs. The Scouring. The former is an event where the full details are shrouded in mystery, up to the player to piece together the clues and figure out the truth for themselves...or in Crimson Flower's case, ignore the truth and act out in your ignorance.With Binding Blade though, when the truth starts coming out, it hits hard. I mean, right from the beginning of the game we're told man was the one who broke the peace by attacking the dragons, but then we learn that those legendary weapons messed up the environment, resulting in dragons needing to use human forms only to be slaughtered by man. Dragons were blamed for the environment, the people who used those weapons were revered as heroes. We don't know why mankind launched their attack, but we do know that they weren't able to slay the Demon Dragon, one who had her soul destroyed in order to control her, because the Heroes felt sorry for her. It's making dragons out to be the victims here, much like the dragons in Three Houses. But Crimson Flower only serves to demonize them, acting like they can't understand humanity when the dragons in that game are a lot closer to humans emotionally than the ancient dragons in Elibe.
The Elites in comparison weren't heroes, and that lie has been confirmed as Rhea trying to make peace.
The good ending for Binding Blade is being able to save the dragon whose soul was destroyed, whereas Crimson Flower ends with slaying a dragon after you've spent the entire game triggering her (and is the ending that leads to oppressive rule under Edelgard, in addition to the only ending without sunlight. What? You thought you'd get the good ending when her final boss theme was playing on the last stage?). Also, you need all the Legendary weapons in order to unlock the final stages, which all play into the big mystery. Crimson Flower requires the player to not understand that the world-building was done to support fighting against Edelgard instead.
Merits of a leader
Let's not beat around the bush here, Roy will not carry you through Binding Blade. His bases are low, and while he has good growths he is unable to promote until the very end of the game. Even then, you need to save the Binding Blade's usage to ensure you get the good ending. Roy is also very unsure of himself, thrust into a position of leadership despite his young age. But look at what happens when he succeeds, he manages to overcome the odds and take down the mightiest army on the continent. At the end of the game, he's shown himself as more than capable of leading. Not to mention, he also believes that humans and dragons can live together, even seeing this in Acadia (and if Ninian was his mother, he's unknowingly proof of this as he is 1/4 dragon himself. May explain his poor bases). If he marries Liliana, he even becomes a King for likely much of the same reason Byleth does in SS/VW (most leaders are dead following the war, plus combining his territory with Ostia which had already taken over Lyn's land after she abdicated/married Hector). Roy learns the truth as already established.
Compare this to Crimson Flower Byleth. Byleth leads the Black Eagle Strike Force, but credit for it goes to Edelgard. Byleth never gets any recognition for this, no position of authority despite proving themselves, instead that goes to Caspar Jenkins of all people, and ends the war continuing to fight TWSITD from the shadows to support Edelgard's regime. And if you read between the lines, Edelgard is NOT a good leader, resorting to bribes, threats, cronyism, secret police, propaganda, and even TWSITD's support and later stolen tech in order to maintain her rule. Byleth lost whatever emotional development they got from White Clouds during this route, once again becoming the Ashen Demon, and is even willing to let themselves die if they can't keep their “humanity” in check showing a distaste for their own draconic heritage (showing humans and dragons can't live together in this timeline). They didn't grow into being a leader, they devolved into being Edelgard's unthinking muscle. Byleth never learns the truth in this route, falling for Edelgard's manipulations resulting in them losing Enlightened One/Nirvana status.
Not to mention, Heroes Relics have really low weapon levels. In theory, they can be used by anyone but only safely by those with Crests and most fully with a matching Crest. Legendary Weapons, on the other hand, can be used by anyone with an S rank in their type. Your characters have to EARN the right to use those things and you'll need them to deal with all the Manaketes during the final level, whereas Relics aren't exactly that level of broken.
Honestly, seeing the ending of Binding Blade and Idunn recovering put at least one tear in my eye. Crimson Flower's just made me feel like the game was calling me an idiot (which considering the Nirvana/Enlightenment thing, it kinda was). I would love if Binding Blade got the Echoes treatment, or even if they just did a GBA collection for the Switch. But after all these years, one thing is as certain now as it was when I was a kid.
In this house, ROY'S OUR BOY!
Giga-Brained Cog Bosses HC Hours Feat BG
- They are all evil bitches. All of them. Post over— KWHDJBAJFBAJ OKAY BUT FOR REAL THO:
Non-Romantic HCS:
- VP detests cream pies with all his being, but regardless, has still developed a sweet tooth. He’s tried “toon food” before(aka candy), but decided it’s not good enough for his “Superior Cog Tastebuds” so he’s had some of his workers “Improve” them. Now his favorite candies are high quality Bon Bons that are dark chocolate (SPECIFICALLY 100% cocoa, like the REAL bitter stuff) on the outside, with motor oil on the inside! Yum! :]
- The other bosses don’t admit it, but they do sometimes steal VP’s chocolates for themselves. And yes, a toon has been unfortunate enough to steal and (try to) eat one, and they were saddened on the spot.
- Out of all four of them, VP is the one with the sweetest, most charming, and outwards personality, and he gives the biggest shit about fashion.
- Whenever he thinks about what he would wanna do if he wasn’t evil, VP likes to imagine himself as a director to plenty of hit (commercials and) movies, and he imagines himself living in a super luxurious studio. He hates how the toons have raided his HQ so much so to the point where it looks like the massive shithole you see in-game.
- CFO, like VP, also cares immensely about how he looks, wearing expensive jewelry like rings n necklaces, but when he’s not counting his money, he prides himself in how he carefully spends(steals. He steals.) to have only the finest to fit his tastes. He loves how much cleaner his HQ looks, and his private abode prolly has shit like marble floors or tables.
- Basically? The guy is a massive snob when it comes to architecture, and thus he’ll often watch shows about awful, awful multi-million dollar apartments that look like absolute dogshit just so he can laugh at them and stroke his own ego about how much better his place looks.
- CFO of course hoards money and pretty things like a dragon, but one of his special favorite objects are these tiny trains he owns. He’s like those dads that have a cool little mini train collection/display, and he loves them to death. The only one who knows about them is the VP, mostly cuz the VP genuinely thinks it’s cool, and VP caught him messing with them by complete accident.
- If he ever goes anywhere special, he’ll always nab a little “memento” for himself to remember the occasion.
- The CFO is the massive short fuse, surprisingly. When he’s not being an arrogant cockshit, he’s the quickest to piss off and his anger rivals that of the CEO’s, especially when it comes to his money being stolen (I personally like to think he’ll sometimes yell “I’LL HAVE YOUR HEAD FOR THIS.” when fighting toons).
- CJ, on the other hand, is as graceful and level-headed as you could imagine. If the boss cogs all go out for drinks one day-off, CJ would be the designated driver. He, of course, is the most serious and no-nonsense motherfucker.
- CJ’s unsurprisingly the smartest one of the cogs, his hobbies including reading law books and strategizing the most optimal ways to handle certain toon-related situations.
- Despite this, the judge is actually the most curious about learning new things, including toon behavior, thus he likes gathering information about everything himself when he’s able to.
- The judge is not actually blind, but he wears the blindfold because he has the ability to ‘see’ by sensing everything around him. He almost never opens his eyes because both his sight and his sense working at the same time is too much and thus overwhelms him. It’s considered his only “flaw” by the Chairman.
- The CJ often remarks that, if the world toons live in was not so painfully saturated, he’d actually find the flora... beautiful. He’d like to hang around Daisy Gardens the most.
- The blue muppet-lookin man absolutely, without a shadow of a doubt, plays Microsoft solitaire on those old 90’s computers.
- The CEO may be as cocky and angry as the other bosses. However, he excels at the game of wits/cunningness and is absolutely the most chaotic motherfucker. It’s his way or the highway, he doesn’t care. The CEO gets what he wants when he wants, and if ANYTHING gets in his way, he’ll step on or control anyone to have his way and succeed. He can basically be the embodiment of “Murder, Manipulate, Mansplain”
- He’s the toughest out of the bunch. The CEO will absolutely be the one to start problems on purpose, he has the strongest guts and thus has no problem talking back to even the Chairman if he knows something’s not adding up.
- Golf is his main hobby, or lifestyle, of course. HOWEVER the CEO is also one to indulge in the ‘art of gambling’, as he puts it, and he’s pretty damn good at it! He loves raising the stakes and savors swindling the other bosses of their cogbucks, especially the CFO lol. Casinos are nice places to kick back and unwind at if the golf courses are undergoing maintenance!
- Being the final boss cog made, the CEO has the latest tech and runs with the least amount of issues or bugs. He likes to rub in the fact that he’s got the least amount of lag in his systems, the smoothest treads, etc.
- Roast-master supreme. Will absolutely have a toon’s entire bloodline rolling in their graves by the time he’s done roasting the fuck out of them.
- And speaking of roasts, the CEO is a very picky man when it comes to his things, such as his decor or his banquets. He will accept nothing less than perfection, nothing other than his ideal vision.
- CEO will play any kind of game if it peaks his interest, whether it be IRL or online, if it’s got a deal he can’t refuse, he’ll go for it... (This may or may not have resulted in him playing some unexpectedly-hilarious golf matches with Skipper on Kirby’s Dream Course)
-Out of all of the other cogs, the CEO is the lightweight when it comes to alcohol.
I’m a girl (18 now) who got exposed/addicted to pornography at a really young age, and I wanted to share my specific story on this blog so that the platform can get it out there.
Under the cut is my full story, and it’s a little long winded, so if you don’t want to read the whole thing, I bolded in purple the general topic/idea of that section. Just look for whichever of those interests you and the section will be about that. The first and last paragraph are good for context and end goal, though.
Thank you.
I don't fully remember my first exposure to porn. I know I was in third grade (6-7 yrs old, I had skipped a grade). The reason I had wanted to share my story, in fact, is because I don't see many stories with circumstances similar to mine. Most I see have at least one of the following 'modifiers', for want of a better word. Most I see have at least one of the following 'modifiers', for want of a better word. Most I see have at least one of the following 'modifiers', for want of a better word. 1. The person is a victim of CSA/grooming. 2. The person was at a generally pubescent age (~11-14). And/or 3. The person experienced porn as a quick disturbance. To be clear, these stories are as valid and important as mine, and I simply think more perspectives make evidence of the effects of porn more airtight. I've never been the victim of SA, harassment, or grooming, ever in my life. My story shows the effects of exclusively porn.
The first memory I can recall about this was actually the first time I got caught. I was 6 yrs old, and very into video games,so on this day, I was playing a 3D porn game on my crappy hand-me-down laptop. I kind of knew that what I was doing wasn't acceptable, so I was sitting in my room in the corner as far from my door as possible. My mom walked in so I just slammed the laptop shut because I wasn't that good at hiding things. My mom obviously asked what I was doing, and I tried to keep her from looking, but it was right there when she reopened it. This is where the battle of it begins.
From ages 6-14 I don't have a good timeline of events but a few pop out that exemplify the severity of the issue. These are very probably out of order.
I got an iPod Touch for Christmas (~6-7), and every night I would watch porn on it until they caught on. I literally still remember some names of the sites, most that don't even exist anymore. My parents have always been amazingly caring. I couldn't ask for more. During the earlier ages (~6-8) I was put with a child therapist for fear of a deeper issue. My parents started either taking technology away in the night and/or setting restrictions on the internet. Unfortunately, between my slight tech-savvy, and my crazed addiction at this point, this wasn't a solution.
The addiction got DEEP. It warped my brain. When I had no technology, I used everything I could find.
Whenever I had access to less restricted internet, I used it. Once I asked my older cousin to use her iPod and watched it on there.(she noticed and told my mom. I remember my mom had asked me "Is there anything you need to tell me?", and I knew what she meant, but I just said "nope!" and walked away. At one point my dad's work provided him with a Blackberry, and I asked him could I play one of the built in little games. Once I had it, I watched porn. (when I gave it back to him he pressed the "back" button, and I was caught.)
I used Youtube. This was when YouTube was way less moderated (back when the app was a little old timey TV). I learned I could look up "striptease" and "nip-slip" and other stuff like that, finding more soft-core videos that could suffice when the internet in general was locked down.
I straight-up found out ways to disable the restrictions. Once I found out my mom's PIN for the controls, I went and disabled them, but changed the PIN so it would look like they were still on, and so that she couldn’t access and re-enable them. (I made it 7399. Spells "sexy". My mind was a mess.)
My parents bought a book called "The Classical Tradition". I'm just learning now as I'm looking it up that it was a Harvard Reference Library book (probably why it was so damn thick) about ancient Greek and Roman culture. I didn't know that. I had realized that sprinkled throughout the book there were pages that were more glossy than the rest, which you could see from the sides of the pages (the book was HUGE). These were the photo paper, which had the classical paintings and sculptures. And because these had nudity (Think "The Birth of Venus" type) I would regularly flip through this book when I needed a "fix". Absurd.
My parents got me an American Girl book that was made to ease worries about the developmental years. The pages on breast development / the anatomy of the vagina were what I looked at the most. When my parents had gotten me the child therapist, there was the logical fear that I might have been molested. The therapist gave me a book where there was a page with two cartoon mice, a boy and a girl. They were wearing swimwear/underwear and the point of that was "anywhere the clothing is covering is somewhere that adults can't touch you without telling.” They might as well have been stick figures, there was NO detail. But since they were in ‘underwear’ I'd always look at that page a lot. Anything barely vaguely sexual.
During this part of my life, I got no real pleasure out of this, I was just obsessed. For the first year I even watched it on mute out of fear of being caught. The lowest point during this period was when I very unfortunately filmed a video of me touching myself. I got nothing out of it and had no intent on ever sending or posting it. I was just emulating what I had been seeing. I deleted it the next day. I was 9 then.
From puberty until now (11-18) is when my sexuality was shaped by it. The addiction was far more controllable, I could spend a couple weeks to a couple months without it, but I'd always come back. Because it was now tied to my body. And while my need for it to be constant was gone, now I had to deal with the tolerance issue.
Over time what I watched became more and more depraved. I had the personal preference of hating anything amateur, because of the low quality, so I managed to avoid anything obviously non-consensual or involving visibly underaged girls, but that doesn't really mean much with the stuff the studios were putting out. During the middle points it got REALLY violent and disturbing. Bordering on torture (extreme kink) and even bodily deformation. As a young woman, I couldn't really tolerate any of the role based Kinks (father-daughter, babysitter, schoolgirl), so more extreme for me meant more extreme acts. Just absolute destruction of women's bodies for the purposes of sex. I moved away from that when tumblr banned porn and I started using reddit for it, and also during that time I was realizing how fucked up of an addiction that this was, even before I found feminism/anti-porn. I actively started trying to quit it, for good. But I always went back.
One big effect is heavy confusion with my sexual orientation. A lot of people face this, but the addition of porn for me really throws things off. Like: Am I bi, and a form of comphet/denial/inexperience keeps me from seeing women in a romantic way? Is it a mix of that and porn? (relatively likely) Or am I just straight, and the porn has completley shaped my mind (likely). 90% of the time I watched solo female content or lesbian content, and could only stand to watch certain specific forms if it included men at all. In real life I find a fair amount of men attractive but their bodies in a sexual sense are tolerable at best, but usually cringe inducing. l've never been attracted to a woman romantically, but exclusively women's bodies are sexual to me. It feels like everything in my brain that I would have been able to use in order to figure myself out has been permanently overwritten with incorrect information. Because of porn.
I've still got it bad. Every once in a while, I’ll read something vaguely sexual, or see a woman in a risque photo, and then the seed is planted. I'll always say "I'm not going to do it, I always feel disgusting after, it’s not even really enjoyable at this point, I can do better than this”. I always give in the end of the night. I'm 7 days off of it. I've been on this earth for 18 years. 12 of those years I've been cripplingly addicted to pornography. Two thirds of my life, and for as long as I can remember. I can never undo it. Just like an alcoholic will always be an alcoholic, only able to achieve remission, I will always be a porn addict. I have to be careful. But I have to hope for the future. And with finding the community that is speaking the truth about this, I'm heartened to do better. To no longer be held down by an addiction to consuming my own oppression.
Back again with another Kingdoms Heart II talky time. What is this, the fourth? Fifth installment? Any who, I’m covering Sora’s revisits to Beast’s Castle, Chin- er, sorry, Land of Dragons, Olympus, Agrabah, Halloween/Christmas Town, and Pride Rock.
Tumblr media
*I love that Kingdom Hearts Belle is only so restraint with her annoyance over Organization XIII’s bullshit. She’s already pissed when Xaldin interrupts her big ballroom dance out with the Beast (”not tonight!”), then when Xaldin kidnaps her and threatens the Beast, she elbows the man in response (the music even stops just to emphasize the impact of what she’s done), sporting an absolute shit-eating grin in the process.
Tumblr media
Belle is Queen Shit.
*I see The Beast has mastered the Team Rocket School of Quick Changing Clothing. He’s somehow able to switch from his dance outfit to his standard tattered cape and pants between Heartless surrounding them and just before they do battle. What talent.
*Having Marluxia’s - that pretentious rose-spewing jackass - insignia inside Beast’s Castle is apropos.
*I get keeping the Organization XIII members in their hoods is to preserve their mysteries and build anticipation (it’s less about Who They Could Beeee as it is wondering what they look like and what personality/skills are associated with them), but as someone who sometimes has trouble distinguishing things, having to parse out who is speaking to who when they all look identical is kind of hard....They really could have killed for more women in the Org, I’m just saying.
*Oh shit, I forgot how hot Xigbar was. In terms of sexiness, it’s a toss-up between him and Luxurd.
Tumblr media
*Oh yes, that eye patch does do things to me. <3
*It is super cute that Mulan asked the Emperor if Shang could have a vacation.
*I think it fits that at some point in Hercules’ life, he’s going to feel burnt out from being a hero without any rest. It’s kind of nice to see this game explore that a bit.
*I haven’t played FFX in a long time, but I think some of the dialogue Auron spouts when Sora picks up his Heart Doll doohickey are from or carry shades from his time during. It’s obviously just meant to pay lip service to his canon role, but I kind of like the Don’t-Take-It-Seriously-Theory that the Auron in Kingdom Hearts ended up in Hades’ realm (maybe he took a wrong turn in Albuquerque on his way to Spira’s whatever-the-fuck-metaphysical-afterlife-is.) I guess if there’s one game series where multibverse traverse is logical, it’d be Kingdom Hearts.
Tumblr media
I’ve looked at this artwork of Sora many times over the years and this part of his outfit still baffles me. What are those baggy red things attached to his hips? Are they cushioned to protect a part of his body in case he gets tossed by an enemy? Is it the same with his shoulder guards or are those even shoulder guards and not just clothing that happen to look like shoulder guards? Like, are the red bags bags? Does Sora pack his essentials in them? Toothbrush? Snack bar? Keys to the Gummi Ship????
*If Hercules’ doubt is part and parcel of being a hero to many, Sora’s obsession to be defined as one in Olymupus Coliseum feel redundant and backwards. Didn’t the first Kingdom Hearts established that bearing the moniker of a hero is not reflective of your character, but through your actions? Sora’s a goofball, but apparently that lesson didn’t seem to stick, causing him to obsess over labels he only cares about for this world and this world only.
*Revisiting Port Royal and I’m only just realizing Sora can kill pirates in this game. They’re undead, but they’re that way because of a curse, otherwise they were living and have the capability to live again. I don’t know if I can process this kid having murdered like hundreds of Actual, By Technicality, Living Humans.
*I like how Jack describes the audacity of Organization XIII’s motives that it makes pirates look kind and spoke with a tone as if he’s offended. Pirates have a nasty reputation to live for and those jackasses in black hoods are taking all their creds.
*Luxurd is the other Hot Organization XIII member, and he may be my personal favorite. He’s got that sauve, roguish quality I like in a character. In another universe, he might have been a risky, gambling-his-life Lovable Rouge Pirate and damn if I wouldn’t eat that story up.
Tumblr media
*Whenever Donald and Goofy is out of your party, they sometimes circle around to each other and chat and I think that’s adorable. Nice attention to detail.
*Tragically, unlike Belle who got a bit more to do in her world, Jasmine’s expanded role in KHII doesn’t amount to a hill of beans. She gets to be voiced by her original actress, but that’s about the extent of it.
*I don’t know if this was an intended foreshadowing or just the product of Cool Boss Fight, but Sora constantly dodging and reflecting crumbles of building away from Genie Jafar does end up coming back in the final boss fight. Arguably cooler than this one, but you can see it as Sora applying what he’s learned since then.
*If Genie is capable of fixing Agrabah and improving on it, then man, I think Aladdin should let him. Like don’t drastically alter it to alienate the townsfolk, but consult with the Sultan and Jasmine and improve the homes of thousands of impoverished people. Come on, Aladdin, you’re gonna rule these people, and you were once a street rat. Use your position for good!
*I’m a tad worried about Sora’s stick arms. Kid, you eating alright? Is Donald and Goofy giving you proper nourishment?
Tumblr media
*At the second half of the game, Kingdom Hearts II really ramps up the Sora/Kairi and how you feel about it likely depends upon your preference for the pairing or not. I actually think they’re adorable as heck and I think a lot of why is that Sora, unlike a lot of other shonen protagonist that his archetype resembles, is far from clueless about his affection for her or even dismissive of her. No, he thinks of her all the goddamn time. He’s ridiculously in love with her that an average teenager can give and that’s such a wholesome thing that almost any scenario where he’s thinking of her really shines a spot on his character. This despite the fact that, well, there really isn’t a whole lot of on the Why they like each other, they just do because they’re the main male and female protagonist (which is why I get people rolling their eyes at the pairing, it is a bog-standard heteronormative relationship.)
*I think it's a good and logical point that Simba still carries doubt shortly after the events of The Lion King. Scar's ghost looming over him filling him with manipulative thoughts and his people especially doubting his kingly moniker because he's not the Great Mufasa is something Simba would likely be compared to. However could Simba compete with Mufasa, a beloved and competent King?
*I think this is the first time the game has ever shown a canon Disney character getting the Heartless treatment and man, this is a cool concept I kind of wished they did more of. I mean, maybe they did? I haven’t played any KH game after this. I hear Hans turns into one in KH3.
*There's a mild subplot between Cid and Merlin where they both clash over Technology vs. Magic. I know Disney Merlin did complain about the future (read: 1960s contemporary when the movie first came out) once he finished his brief sabbatical there, but as someone who's aged backwards, you'd think he'd have a better appreciation for tech.
...Then again, maybe he saw how invasive smart devices have gotten in the 21st century in which case, okay, fair, you are right to complain.
Lily Luthor
(I never write fanfics, nor really read them, so sorry if this idea has been done before. I started writing out of boredom in quarantine and figured I’d share it. So enjoy some Supercorp ❤️)
Kara gasps for breath as her eyes fly wide open, her vision slowly focusing in on the flickering lights on the ceiling above her. She feels the cold ground beneath her, but when she sits up and looks around she can’t quite place where she is. As she scans the room she finds its mostly empty and abandoned with not a soul in sight.
She had chains around her wrists that were bolted to the floor, and just long enough for her to stand up and move around a little. They were lined in Kryptonite, so there was no point in trying to break free. The lights abruptly cut off before coming back on a moment later, Lex appearing a few feet away from her.
She can already feel the rage taking over. Had he drugged her? Knocked her out? She couldn’t recall how she got there. All she knew is that she wanted to freeze breath him until he slipped into a hypothermic coma. She was still groggy so Lex kicked things off.
“Supergirl, fancy meeting you here.” He said with his signature, smug smirk.
“What do you want?” Kara spit out through clenched teeth.
“Actually, I think I have something you may want.” His tone was a bit less playful this time, business-like almost.
“What could I possibly want from you?”
“Information.”
There was a brief pause and she looked at him inquisitively, not exactly sure what game he was trying to play.
“I don’t trust any information that comes from a Luthor.” She stated sharp and firmly.
“Even if it’s Lena?” He questioned, knowing it would absolutely strike a nerve. He saw the fire practically light up in her eyes at the mere mention of her name.
“Don’t you dare bring her into this.” Kara warned, her glare becoming unnerving even to Lex.
“Have I struck a nerve, Supergirl? She is my sister after all. It’s my job to protect her. Especially from Kryptonians like you.” His remark caused her cheeks to display a bright shade of pink, he assumed it was the rage showing itself.
“You lost the right to call her your sister the moment you decided to hurt and manipulate her. She has a family now, and it’s not the Luthors. So don’t you dare talk to me about keeping my Lena safe. I’d die for her, and we both know it, don’t we?” She had stepped closer to him during her furious rant, she was practically yelling in his face. It only infuriated her more that he seemed somewhat amused by it.
“I know you would. It’s sad really..that you’d give up everything for her while she’s still lying to you. Unrequited love is truly one of life’s greatest travesties isn’t it?” He said, obviously amused with himself.
“I’m not that naive, Lex. If anyone is lying, it’s you to yourself. She killed you for me, remember? You don’t know anything about us, she loves me with her entire heart.” Lex was annoyed by the arrogance of her statement, she was going to be harder to manipulate than he anticipated. He hoped that after all the lying and fighting they did, that she’d still be really skeptical and on edge when it came to Lena. But on the contrary, she had more faith in her than ever. He should’ve known Kara would dive straight back into her blind and unwavering love for Lena, she could never help herself. He just didn’t expect her to be completely and totally wrapped back around her finger already.
“She may have killed me for you, but that was before she knew you betrayed her. She never stopped working with me. She’s been lying to you all this time, and really it wasn’t hard. I mean how long did it take for you to forgive her after all that she did to you, like one day? You make it way too easy, Kara.” He let out a haunting chuckle, and she was equally as annoyed as she was irritated now.
“I don’t believe you.” Was all she cared to say, she didn’t have to explain her reasons to a psychopath.
However, he already knew why. He had held this card for a long time but he was about to play it, she needed to be thrown off her game. “Of course you don’t. Why would you want to believe the woman you’re in love with is deceiving you?”
Kara just froze, not even knowing how to react to what he just said. “I..I..what? I’m not in love with her. She’s my best friend.” She tried not to seem shocked, but the stuttering and the bewildered look on her face betrayed her.
“Is that what you tell yourself? Red Daughter read your diaries and she seemed to think otherwise. In fact, Red Daughter was weirdly obsessed with Lena. I didn’t quite understand it at first until I realized she’s just a blank-slated copy of you. And it finally made sense.”
Kara never trusted a word out of this mans mouth, but for some reason she could tell he was telling the truth on this one.
“I’m not gonna argue with you, Lex. You’d say anything to divide us and I won’t let that happen. So you might as well let me go.” She huffed out, just bored of his antics at this point.
“Fine. I didn’t want to have to do this, but I guess you leave me no choice.” He paused for dramatic effect before continuing, he always liked to put on a show. “Lily, come on out.” He called out. A very strikingly beautiful girl walked into sight, she looked like a teenager.
Kara looked at the girl and immediatley sensed something familiar about her. It wasn’t until she locked eyes with her that she started to peice some things together and she just wanted to burst into tears, but she tried to keep her composure as much as possible. Although she knew the look on her face had to be giving her shock and confusion away. When she looked into this girls eyes she just froze dead in her tracks, the same way she did when she first locked eyes with Lena that day at L-Corp all those years ago.
Lily had Lena’s eyes, there was absolutely no doubting that. Kara had stared just a little too deeply into Lena’s eyes just a little too often to not see it. They were big, bright, and round, but more distinctly she had one eye that was green and one that was more blue. She couldn’t even find the words to say to Lex. She wasn’t even sure exactly what this situation was, but what she knew without a doubt was that this girl was a Luthor.
“Who...who is this? Do you have a daughter? Or another sister I didn’t know about?” Kara questioned, a puzzled look still on her face.
“No, no. I don’t have a daughter. But you do now.” He motioned to Lily with his eyes and Kara’s mind was racing so fast she was pretty sure she almost passed out from forgetting to breathe. The echo of Lex’s thunderous tone bounced off the walls and back to Kara, but the word daughter would’ve still been ringing in her ears anyways, though. She was flooded with a myriad of emotions that she couldn’t seem distinguish from each other.
“Lex, what the hell are you talking about? What did you do?” Her tone was demanding but her face was pleading for answers.
“I did what I needed to do. I needed an enemy that even the girl of steel couldn’t defeat. You have two weaknesses in this world, Kara, your family and Lena. So I figured..why not combine the two? So I stole a DNA sample from you and Lena both and voila..the first lab grown baby was made.”
She tried so hard to push the tears back but some of them surfaced anyways. She was trying really hard not to look at Lily, it only made it worse. She wanted to scream at him. She wanted to tell him that he had no right to violate their privacy and steal DNA. That he had no right to have a child for them. As much as she daydreamed every single day that Lena would marry her someday and have adorable half kryptonian babies with her..she wanted Lena to choose to do that with her. She felt like she had been stripped of any ounce of free will she had.
“I don’t know if you’ve noticed Lex but that is no baby. This doesn’t make any sense.” Kara said trying to make any sense out of this situation at all but failing.
“Well a baby wouldn’t be of much use to me. I may have stolen some tech during my brief visit to the waveraider during the last crisis, so I was able to go to the future and get Lily once she turned 16. But don’t worry, baby Lily is still safe in the lab. For now.” His haunting revelation sent chills up Kara’s spine. She couldn’t believe what she was hearing. She already dreaded the fact that she had to find a way to tell Lena all of this.
“Lex, I swear to god if you’re telling the truth and you hurt our baby..I will show you no mercy.” Kara growled menacingly. She looked at Lily again, more tears threatening to spill. It blew her mind that the girl standing before her was half herself, and half the woman she’d been in love with for years now. She’d always viewed Lena as such a pure soul despite the darkness she’d experienced all her life, so the thought of something happening to the girl that shared half of her DNA..it made Kara’s blood boil.
“Well, Lily was alive and well with her siblings when I went to the future. That means if you do everything I say, she’ll be perfectly fine.” He threatened, his tone was sadistic in nature. Kara was stunned when she heard the word ‘siblings’ but she honestly didn’t want to know anything more, this was all too much already.
“Lily, why are you working with him?” She questioned, looking at the girl with pleading eyes. The girl, however, stayed stone faced.
“Don’t bother, Kara. Sweet Lily here only does what I tell her she can do. Q Waves are a very wonderful thing.” The words spilled happily from his mouth, this is the exact exasperated reaction he’d hoped to get from the Kryptonian.
He took a few more jabs at the girl of steel just for fun before finally letting her go, of course not releasing her until he was somewhere out of sight and safe. Coward, was the only word Kara was thinking. He may have let her go, but it was on one condition: she goes to tell Lena the information she just learned. The thought of the conversation had Kara in tears already. There were so many thoughts swirling through her head that she could barley fly back to the DEO without running into a few buildings. Nothing about this was right. What if Lena was upset they had a baby together because she didn’t love her back? Knowing that this meant the world to her, but could possibly mean nothing to Lena terrified her. She obviously wanted kids under extremely different circumstances...but once again she couldn’t not love anything with Lena’s DNA in it.
She landed on the DEO balcony and just stood there frozen for a moment. Alex and Lena, who were conversing nearby, noticed Kara standing out there in deep thought. She looked conflicted and upset. They both stopped their conversation to walk over to her worriedly. Kara looked up and locked eyes with Lena as they made their way over, and Lena noticed her eyes started to water more. Seeing Lily’s eyes only moments before, and seeing the way they paralleled with Lena’s, made her feel like she was going to break down before she even got to start.
“Kara, what’s wrong?” Alex queried with her signature sisterly concern. “I, um..Can I get a moment alone with Lena?” Kara fidgeted nervously, she looked like she was ready to crawl out of her own skin. Now Lena was even more concerned than before. “Yeah. Of course.” Alex was just more worried now than she was, but she’d just have to wait for an explanation.
“Kara, you’re worrying me. You look like you’ve just seen a ghost.” Lena took a step closer to her, it always made Kara feel weak in the knee’s when Lena got that serious look on her face, or just got anywhere in her personal space at all. It took her a solid few months of friendship to learn to form a coherent sentence with Lena that close to her.
“Not a ghost...your brother. He..Lena he went to the future.” Kara’s anxiety was spiking by the second.
“To the future? What could he possibly want there?” The inquisitive look on Lena’s face started to contort into pure concern, especially because Kara looked like she might faint once the words finally left her mouth.
“Kara, what did Lex take from the future?” Lena pressed harder, her unease taking over her normally stoic exterior.
“Our daughter.” Kara finally spit out, she almost dropped from relief until she saw the puzzled look occupying Lena’s face.
“What? We don’t have a daughter?” Lena was trying to make sense of this in any way she could, she was being flooded with a lot of the same emotions Kara was now.
“Not yet.” Kara gulped and studied Lena’s face, trying to figure out what she was thinking, but to no avail. Her face was too many things at once to pinpoint.
“We..if we have a daughter does that mean we...?” Lena motioned between the two of them before she trailed off, but it still sounded like a question she expected Kara to answer. Kara wishes she didn’t know exactly what she was talking about. But she did. She was being confronted with the thing that terrified her more than anything else in the world: admitting her feelings to Lena. Maybe she could beat around the bush and avoid it, but she knew that at some point during this situation it would come out, even if it wasn’t right at this moment. She had a decision to make. It didn’t help that Lena was staring at her with those eyes that made her absolutely melt.
“Um, I..uh..I don’t know. He used our DNA to make her in a lab. But he did mention Lily had other siblings in the future.” A soft smile dared to surface on Kara’s lips at the thought of raising a family with Lena.
“Lily?” Lena asked, a small smile tugging at the corners of her mouth too. She knew she should probably be freaking out at the whole lab baby revelation, but all she could think about was how cute a baby that was half Kara had to be. She was also smiling at the fact that she’d always wanted to name her first born Lily. She was glad to know her future self got to do that, even if it wasn’t in the most conventional way. It made Kara give a real, big smile this time. “Yeah. She’s beautiful, Lena. She looks just like you.” Kara grinned with a softness that gave Lena way too many butterflies.
“Really?” Lena questioned with a slight blush.
“Mhm. I don’t know where she got the auburn hair, but she has your eyes. I knew she was related to you before Lex ever even opened his mouth. I could recognize those eyes anywhere.” Kara heard Lena’s breath hitch and her heart rate increase. That tended to happen when Kara complimented her.
“Is she as sweet as you are?” Lena flirtingly grinned at her, grinning even bigger when she saw Kara blushing.
“I would hope so. But I didn’t get to talk to her. Lex is controlling her using Q waves, so she just stood there silently.”
“So he’s turned our daughter into his personal robot? Why?”
“Because he wants to take me down. That’s why he went to the future and got her once she turned 16. He wants to use her as a weapon, and he knows that the second I look into her eyes.. I won’t be able to fight her.” Kara’s admission made Lena want to melt into a puddle of emotions.
“I know you don’t want to hurt your own blood Kara, but we have to be prepared for the fact that he will make her hurt you.” Lena’s tone was soft and sympathetic.
“It’s not that, Lena. I...Can I admit something to you? So you can understand why I’m so worried?”
“Of course.” The intensity of her gaze made Kara’s entire body feel like it was on fire.
“Several months ago when we were still fighting, I got another visit from Mxyzptlk..he told me he could send me back in time to try telling you my secret earlier, to fix things. But it seemed like no matter when I told you, things always went wrong. So I thought maybe you’d be better off if you had just never met me. But when I went to that timeline.. you were a dictator. You’re family had kidnapped and tortured you and you went down a really dark path. You had a Kryptonite heart and you were blasting me with it. But I...I just took it. The second I looked into your eyes..I couldn’t make myself fight you. Even though it wasn’t the real you I just couldn’t do it. I would’ve died if Mxy hadn’t of gotten me out of there in time.” Admitting this made Kara want to fall over and die in this timeline too, but she needed Lena to understand why she was so worried. Because no matter how much she didn’t want to embarrass herself in front of her crush, they were in this together. Lena was the only one that truly understood the weight of this situation.
Lena just stood there stunned. “Wow..I-I don’t know what to say. I think I’m flattered?”
“You should be, I wouldn’t have done that for anyone else.” A blush was rising in both of their cheeks now. Lena tried to hide it by changing the subject back, but the smile on her face spoke volumes
“So if he got her from the future then where is baby Lily?” Lena always enjoyed flirting with Kara, but right now her worry for her daughter was plaguing her mind.
“He said he has her in his lab.”
“What? We have to go get her! We might not be able to take down teenage Lily right now, but we cannot let Lex near our baby.” Lena was slightly panicked now that she realized Lex had baby Lily too.
Lena was taken back by the grin on Kara’s face, so she spoke up again. “Kara, he has our baby, how are you not panicking right now?”
“Sorry, I am. I just.. Im not used to hearing that.” She still couldn’t wipe the grin off her face, even as panicked as she was.
“What?”
“Our baby.” Now Kara wasn’t the only one smiling.
“Yeah, it has a nice ring to it, doesn’t it?” Lena didn’t understand how she was so excited and so terrified at the same time. She was terrified at the thought of being a mother, because she never had an example of what a good mother looks like. But the thought of having Kara to figure it out with? That made her stomach erupt with butterflies.
“It does. We need to go let the team know what’s going on so we can come up with a plan. And then you and I have a lot to talk about.” Kara’s tone was more serious this time, she was in mission mode now.
They went and gathered the team together and gave them a run down of the situation. Their faces looked just as shocked as Kara and Lena’s did at first. Most of them knew Kara and Lena were in love with each other, but they didn’t expect their first child to happen this way.
“Brainy?” Lena asked as they were all gathered around the table brainstorming.
“Yes Ms. Luthor?”
“Did you know?” Lena’s tone wasn’t accusing, just genuinely curious.
“I was aware that in the future L-Corp created the technology to create offspring from two female organisms, however I was not aware that Lex was responsible for Lily’s conception. I was not entirely sure how she was conceived until now, actually. I was afraid to ask.” Brainy wished so badly he could comfort them by telling them the truth about the future. That they end up having the cutest wedding he’d ever witnessed, and had 3 beautiful daughters together. Kara had insisted they all take on the Luthor name, to show how proud she was to help her rebrand it as a source of good. To show her how proud she was to be with her. They were the true definition of happily ever after.
“He..he’s not responsible for the others right?” Kara was embarrassed to even ask for a multitude of reasons, but she had to know.
“Wait, others?” A confused look was evident on Alex’s face.
“You don’t have to worry, Ms. Danvers. Lucian and Lexa Luthor were entirely your own doing.” Brainy’s answer cleared up Alex’s question while also raising about 50 more.
“I have about a million questions and as much as I want to unpack this, we need to start moving within the hour. I’ll be damned if I let Lex hurt my neice.” Lena and Kara recognized Alex’s protectiveness, they’d seen it with Ruby many times before. It made Lena so happy to know that Alex would be an amazing enough aunt to Lily to make up for the fact that her uncle was insane.
They all came up with a game plan and we’re getting ready to move soon. At this point Kara was just a bundle of nerves. Lena noticed, so she went and got a peice of tech she’d been working on. It only took about 15 minutes of tinkering to code it to what Kara needed specifically.
“Hey Kara, before you go..” Lena pulled the small peice of tech from her pocket and presented it to Kara. “I know you’re worried that you won’t be able to fight her if you have to see her eyes, so I made you this.”
“What is it?”
“It’s called ArkAngel. It’s still in its trial run stage, but it’s normally for parents who want to censor obscenity from their children. It blocks out stressful stimuli from the users vision. I wired it to block out Lily’s eyes. You’ll be able to see her, but from the nose up she’ll be blurry.” Lena explained.
“Wow, thank you. You’re a life saver.” Kara said grabbing it from her.
“I just need you and Lily to make it home safe. I can’t lose you again, Kara. And I can’t lose our daughter before I’ve even gotten the chance to meet her.” Kara could see the emotion swelling up in Lena’s eyes. Lena tried to present herself as cold and stoic, but Kara saw the real her. The Lena that was sensitive and compassionate and loving. Seeing that side of Lena for the first time all those years ago is what changed her small crush into being full on in love with her.
Kara engulfed her in a tight hug. “You won’t lose me, Lena. I will always come home to you. And from now on so will Lily. I swear to you I will protect you both til the very end.”
Lena was so consumed with emotion she didn’t even know what to do with herself other than just cling as tightly to Kara as she could. “You’re still my hero, Kara Danvers, I hope you know that.“ Kara thought her heart was gonna explode. All she wanted to do in that moment was pull away from the hug, grab her face, and kiss her like she’d never been kissed before. But she knew it would leave her dizzy, and the last thing she needed to do before a mission was distract herself. So she settled for a sweet and loving kiss on the forehead. Lena pulled away to give her one last longing glance before she inevitably had to leave.
Kara flew to Lex’s lab and it was much bigger than she expected. She wandered around for what felt like an enternity trying to figure out where Lily might be, but in reality it was only a few minutes. She finally saw a sector of the building that was completely shut off by a big steel door. She knew that’s where she had to be. She walked up to it and saw a keypad that prompted the user for a 5 digit code. She knew it would take forever to try every 5 digit combination imaginable, so she asked for Brainys help over comm’s. He was able to disable it so it didn’t trigger any alarms. However, Kara wasn’t prepared for the fact that Lex had a failsafe. The minute she walked through the door an alarm starting blaring, announcing that Kryptonian DNA had been detected. First Clark had a Luthor protocol at the fortress, and now Lex had a Super protocol at his lab. ‘What is wrong with these guys?’ Was Kara’s first thought. Her second thought was pure panic. She knew she needed to find the baby and get out as quickly as possible. Teenage Lily would surely show up at any minute now.
After walking further down the hall, she heard a baby cry. Bingo! She knew which room she was in now. She went to bust through the door when she was flung back by a whirl of cold breath. Crap, Lily had the same superpowers as she did. “Not so fast, mom.” Lily called out menacingly. Kara had to keep reminding herself that this wasn’t the real Lily, this was all Lex.
“I know he’s controlling you, Lily, but you have to fight it. I don’t know you yet, but if you’re anything like Lena then I know you’re strong. You can beat this.”
The pep talk didn’t help, and Lily started charging at her. Kara had to pretend that she was some random villain to keep herself from breaking down. The fact that she was hurting her own daughter made her want to cry on the spot. But she knew it needed to be done. She finally had her pinned down and was about to knock her out when it happened. Lily smiled at her..and Kara froze. She wishes now that Arkangel had blurred out her entire face. She had Lena’s smile and dimples too. Crap.
In the few moments Kara hesitated, Lily was able to wrestle out from underneath her mothers strong grip to try and attack her one last time. As much as Kara wanted to break down and cry, she thought of her baby sitting in the other room alone and scared, and it gave her a second wind. She gave Lily one last devastating blow, enough to knock her out. It gave her enough time to go grab the baby and get out.
It didn’t fully register that she was holding a baby, her own baby, in her arms until after she was flying towards the DEO and out of harms way. She finally sighed a breath of relief and looked down at her baby for the first time. Even as a baby she looked so much like Lena. Her eyes were teary already. Partly because she just harmed her older daughter, and partly because her baby daughter was now safe and in her arms. Lily had stopped crying and was much calmer now, flying seemed to soothe her. Kara was just in awe.
She landed on the DEO balcony for the second time today, but this time she landed as a mother. She wasn’t sure what to make of that, but she couldn’t wait to see the look on Lena’s face when she saw their daughter for the first time.
Everyone came running up, but they stopped once they reached the door and let Lena have her moment with Kara first. “Kara you’re bleeding, what happened?” Lena said placing a hand on Kara’s cheek and stroking it gently.
“She apparently has your smile and dimples too, is what happened.” She grinned a little before more tears swelled up in her eyes.
“Even as a baby, she’s just as beautiful as her mother.” Kara added and now Lena was teary eyed too. She looked down at the baby in Kara’s arms and was just instantly infatuated. “Wow..” Was all that managed to escape her lips.
Both of their hearts were so full in that moment, it was a feeling neither of them had quite experienced before. While it may not have been the most conventional way to have a child, it still felt like the happiest day of their lives. Everyone was watching from afar, just absolutely swooning at how adorable this was.
“I love her already.” Kara was absolutely beaming now. “And I love you too, Lena Luthor. More than I’d like to admit.”
“Well I think finding out we have children together in the future kind of takes the surprise out of it but.. I love you too, Kara. I’ve been in love with you from the start.”
Kara looked up and locked eyes with her, her gaze was more intense than she’d ever seen it. This was it, she thought, it looked like the woman of her dreams was about to do what she’d been fantasizing about for years now. Lena gently grabbed her face and kissed her, and suddenly it felt like everything was right in the world. Kissing her soulmate made it feel like she was surrounded by magic. Like symphonies were playing and folktales were being written about their love.
The kiss was soft, loving, and sweet. Kara had never been kissed quite like that before. She just melted into it. When Lena pulled away she craved her taste her for just a second longer, but she was quickly snapped back into reality when she heard everyone awe’ing in the doorway. It just made Kara and Lena smile at each other. “Come on over, guys.” They said and everyone ran over to see the baby excitedly.
They spent several hours out buying baby stuff to take back to Lena’s apartment, and before Kara knew it she was agreeing to move in with her. She knew she still had to worry about teenage Lily tomorrow, but for the night she was just soaking up her newfound motherhood with the love of her life, who was now officially her girlfriend. She couldn’t have been happier.
After some long nights and tiring days, they eventually took Lex down and returned Lily safely to the future. Over the next 5 or so years, they added two additions to their family just like Brainy had said. Lexa and Lucian Luthor brought even more joy to their lives than they could’ve imagined. They were insanely, grossly happy. After everything they’d sacrificed and been though and lost, they were finally getting their fairytale ending.
If you made it this far, thanks for reading and I really hope you enjoyed it! Did anyone catch the Black Mirror reference? 😅
The Revival of Akillian: Chapter 7
Okay, so there’s a mistake in the novellisation where the first page of chapter 7 is misprinted as the first page of chapter 5! It should only be a couple of sentences missing, but that’s why it starts a little abruptly.
-------------------------------------
Prologue / Chapter 6 / Chapter 8
7. THE LONELY ANGEL
Only the president of the Society, Master Brim Simbra - a Lightning - is permanently represented by an avatar: very old, he does not leave his home planet, because his body can no longer support space travel. Even the simple jump between Xzion and its crown of satellites represents an insurmountable challenge for him. Sitting in a meditative posture in a virtual bubble with purple shades, his avatar seems to float in the center of the large sphere, above the slowly spinning miniature Galaxy.
It is the Honorable Galahaas, Grand Master of the Shadow Council - the Shadow Government -, dressed all in white and wearing the Society badge as required by protocol, who speaks first:
- Our main concern is whether Aarch will manage to awaken the Breath of Akillian. We fear that the emergence of this flux will disturb the balance of the galaxy.
Dame Simbai, the human representative within the Society - a mature woman but still very beautiful, with long brown hair, a soft and calm voice - immediately contradicts him:
- Come now, Honorable Galahaas! Akillian's Breath is not strong enough for this. Contrary to what you might think, it is not responsible for the great glaciation that this planet has suffered...
- You seem better informed than all of us, Dame Simbai, - replied the delegate Shadow. - Can you shed some light on this issue?
But Brim Simbra - big white eyes without pupils, angular and even gaunt face - intervenes with his deep, artificial voice, which produces a slight echo:
- Our Society was created to prevent fluxes from being used outside of Galactik Football matches. In this sporting context, their use represents absolutely no danger.
- I know that, Master Simbra, - Galahaas replies with deference. - But who’s to say that Technoid isn't hiding behind Aarch? I am very wary of Technoid… rightly so, you will agree.
Everyone nods gravely: no one is unaware that Technoid was once the instrument of the Humans' war against the Lightnings and the Shadows, the terrible Shadow Wars. Created for this unique purpose, devoted entirely to military technology, Technoid sent its over-armed ships and soulless robots to sow death, ruin and desolation in this hitherto peaceful region of the galaxy...after the war, it set out to conquer the galaxy in a more peaceful way: by trading in its high technology, its robots and droids, its home automation and security systems - and through its holovision networks. Now, whether among the Shadows, the Lightnings, the Rykers, or even in the depths of the most rural village of the peaceful and spiritual Wambas, we inevitably come across a robot, a slider, an alarm system or an air conditioner wearing the Technoid logo. TTV channels are broadcast on every planet by Technoid satellites. Most of the spaceports and the ships that use them were designed and built by Technoid. And also, of course, all the stadiums of Galactik Football…
However, if Technoid officially displays peaceful commercial ambitions, everyone also knows - thanks to Dame Simbai - that it is more or less controlled or infiltrated by a squad of soldiers; that, among these, some still have not digested the defeat, and dream of a grandiose revenge, of absolute domination of Humans over the galaxy... for so is human nature. Even the Shadows, little known for their pacifism and kindness, learned this the hard way.
- Certainly, Honorable Galahaas. - agrees Dame Simbai. - But I know Aarch personally: he's clearly not the kind of man to sell his soul to Technoid.
- If you say so... there is still one point that particularly worries me: six of the children he selected to form his team suffered from a strange, unexplained fever a few years ago. And the seventh - originally from the moon Obia, however - seems to master the Breath to perfection. However, all these children were born just after the Catastrophe… this tilting of the Akillian orbital axis of which I admit we do not know the causes, but of which - you must admit, Dame Simbai - we do not yet understand all of the consequences.
- I recognize this, Honorable Galahaas. However, I notice that you seem very well informed about all this!
- I have contacts on Akillian. - the dignitary Shadow evades with a small smile.
- Either way, - says Master Simbra, - the use of the Breath of Akillian in Galactik Football is legal. It is not our job to thwart it. Our role is simply to watch that the Breath does not spread outside of this framework...
- It came to my ear, - intervenes in a creaking voice Soror Gomorrah, the vice-president of the Board of Directors of Unadar (the Ryker government), - that Aarch has for a collaborator a certain Professor Clamp, who formerly worked a lot for Technoid...
- Precisely. - confirms Galahaas. – This is why I insist that these two be watched very closely.
***
Aarch's team are training hard in the holo-trainer, which has been moved and set up in the basements of the Arena Stadium, which have remained largely untouched and free from snow and ice. Shots, passes, saves, rebounds, dribbles, ball control, everything goes. Micro-Ice does tons of it to impress Mei, who barely deigns to give him a look. Sinedd tries to be stronger and faster than D’jok, and sometimes succeeds. Ahito is pretty much asleep as long as there are no balls coming his way, but comes to attention in front of the net surprisingly quick. Thran would love to find a way to connect his new high-tech ball to the holo-trainer, but Clamp lets him know that “You don't have to, boy, the ones generated by my machine are fine”. Last but not least, Tia, silent and distant from the group, amazes everyone when the Breath manifests itself in her; when she flies to the ceiling, carried by a column of light, turns into a kind of white demon and swings a twist shot that shakes the holo-trainer itself… then falls gently to the ground, not even out of breath, just a little surprised at this feat.
- Seriously, I can't believe it! - cries Thran in awe. - How does she do that?
- We should take a closer look, she may have wings on her back! - D’jok quips, a little jealous that this girl is stronger than him - than all of them put together in fact - and that she doesn't even take pride in it.
- You got it all wrong, guys! - Micro-Ice intervenes. – She’s not the angel. The angel’s over there, I'm telling you!
He points to Mei at the other end of the field, simmering near Sinedd, who does not notice her, determined to look away from the object of her annoyance.
- Huh? Uh… what? Where are we, guys?
- We're going to switch to ball control – announces Aarch.
Drumming on his console, Clamp enters this new program into the holo-trainer. They are now set up in what was once a circular, clean and well-lit holographic projection room. The “Scrap” - multifunction robots manufactured and programmed by Clamp - did their job well: cleaning the premises, removing the seats, repairing the lighting and electrical circuits. In this nickel-colored room, it is hard to believe that above it lies frozen rubble seventy-five meters thick...
- Speed? - Clamp asks.
- Maximum!
In the holo-trainer, all players meet in a line, each with a ball. Aarch briefly explains to them what he expects of them: to run with the ball as fast and as long as possible.
- But we'll be at the other end of the pitch right away, - says Thran.
- No, because you will stay where you are. Above all, be careful to keep your balance.
- Let's go! - calls Clamp.
- What did they invent as an instrument of torture this time? - Micro-Ice worries.
No sooner has he asked this question when a treadmill appears beneath his feet and starts turning.
Micro-Ice and his teammates are forced to run as fast as the treadmill rolls, pushing the ball in front of them, if they want to stay standing and score points. Soon the exercise gets complicated, as markers appear that they must avoid by dribbling tight, without losing their pace at the risk of being ejected.
- D’jok… just for the record… - pants Micro-Ice. - Football is… a game, right?
- That's true! - Ahito adds, struggling to keep up. - Why do we never play matches?
- You are not here to have fun! - Aarch warns from outside. - If I recruited you, it was not to make up the numbers, but to create a real team, which is able to beat the best. You will play matches when you are ready!
- And when will that be exactly…? Heeeeey…!
Because of his chatting, Micro-Ice loses his rhythm and concentration, and his feet are carried away on the moving surface. He tilts forward and collapses on the conveyor belt, which immediately carries him away.
- Not today, obviously. - smirks Aarch, who saw his fall on the console monitor. Then, speaking to Clamp: - O.K., that's it for now.
The team emerge from the trainer exhausted, breathless, their muscles paralyzed by hours of hard work. Sinedd still finds the energy to laugh at his punching bag’s face:
- Really, Micro-loser, you're nothing but a buffoon!
- I wonder what keeps me from hitting this guy! - Micro-Ice growls.
- Fear, probably. - suggests D’jok. – You have to admit, you are no match for him...
- Ah, that's what real friends are for: they always know how to make you feel better! No, really, how nice of you!
Silent as always, Tia passes the group and climbs the steps that lead to the gallery leading to the exits of the room. Her passage throws a chill over the rest of the group.
- Has she spoken to any of you? - asks Thran. - She never said a word to me!
- By the way, - Clamp informs, - for those interested, I finished setting up the massage room this morning.
- That’s great news! - rejoices Micro-Ice, who feels stiff all over - and his latest fall didn't help.
The massage room is a room furnished with hard and cold tables, above which are suspended “Scrap” robots from the ceiling, with arms fitted with feelers. These, perhaps not very well adjusted, hit and hit the bruised bodies of the players. They feel as though they are receiving a hail of punches on their backs, stomachs and thighs, barely softened by pads of compressed foam, hard as wood.
- Guys, it's not me… who said… this was good news, was it? – Micro-Ice manages to say, wincing at this new torture.
- Oh! Ouch! Oh no, I think… that I'm going to throw up… - hisses D’jok through clenched teeth.
- Why are we here? Can you tell me that? Ouch...
- To play football all day. It could be worse, right? Gn… do you prefer to work deep in the ice mines?
- Ouch! I won’t lie... that it did cross my mind. Argh...
- Do like my brother, guys! - suggests Thran, who seems to be coping better. - Relax and everything will be fine!
Ahito is certainly relaxed: kneaded as hard as the others, he still sleeps like a dormouse...
***
Tia cautiously walks through the restoration site of the Arena Stadium, where all kinds of “Scrap” are busy welding, gluing, bolting and erecting frames and infrastructure, in a well-ordered din of knocks, crackles, clicking, buzzing and crackling. One of them spins around her, a welding laser and water pump pliers at the end of its artificial arms. It pats down her clothes, scans her head to toe, concludes that she is not listed material, and returns to its task. Tia sighs with relief: the “Scrap” could just as well have taken her for a beam and tried to integrate her into the construction... Clamp's robots are not always one hundred percent efficient: this one, for example, persists in searching a container of waste that it believes to be its toolbox and obstinately tries to graft pieces of plastic, scrap metal or sections of electric cables onto the end of his arms.
Tia walks up to Aarch's office and rings the doorbell, and the door slides past her. This is the only room that has been fitted out above the ground, thus benefiting from the daylight which floods in through a large bay window. On the parquet floor, a large panel of glass offers a view of the glacier which fills a street below. Tia stands at the edge of this surface, as if afraid of falling into the void.
- You asked to see me, sir?
Aarch rests the game strategy he was studying on the desk, stands up and greets her with a smile.
- Yes. Come closer, I don’t bite!
She walks hesitantly, eyes lowered. In fact, it's not fear, but shyness, Aarch notes.
- Tia… since when have you had the Breath of Akillian?
- Pardon?
She puts her hand to her mouth, as if she had done something stupid. Aarch clarifies his question:
- Since when have you been able to do what you do with the ball?
- Uh... for a long time, sir. I don't remember very well...
Aarch leans against his desk, crossing his arms, trying to adopt a relaxed demeanour - he doesn't want to look too inquisitive in front of this visibly intimidated young girl.
- And your parents… how did they react when they found out about your gift?
- They don't know. My parents are important diplomats, they are always on the go. I was brought up by my housekeeper...
- They at least know you're here, I hope?
- You haven't received their message, sir?
- Yes, I received it...
Aarch picks up a holo-card reader from his desk, activating it. In the bluish field above the device, an elegant, rather young man and woman stand out, barely resembling Tia. But the Obians are pretty strange people...
“We have given our daughter Tia permission to play on your team.” the man says stiffly. The woman hugs him, all smiles, and adds, “We're very proud of her, you know, Mr. Aarch!”
- Well, there are my parents… - confirms Tia, lowering her eyes timidly.
Aarch cuts the reader off and puts it back on the desk.
- I don't doubt it, Tia. Well... if you don't want to tell me more, go get ready for the interview.
She nods and leaves without a word.
***
Mei has spread out five or six outfits on her bed; she doesn't know which one to choose and it's starting to annoy her. Faced with this dilemma, she calls her mother.
- Oh, mom… mom! I don't know what to wear and we’re gonna be on in an hour, do you realize? We are going to be on Arcadia News, a channel broadcast throughout the entire galaxy!
She paces in front of the screen, exasperated.
- Pull yourself together, Mei! Choose one that suits you perfectly ...
- But mum, they all suit me perfectly!
- Well, in your place, I would wear the blue one! It will look great with your eyes.
Mei jumps and looks up above the screen: it's Micro-Ice, at the bedroom door, checking out her pink boots and her undershirt.
- In case you haven't noticed, this is the girls' room here!
- Yes, I noticed (Micro-Ice leans against the doorpost). But you can trust me, I assure you...
- Sorry to disappoint you, but... (Mei pushes him outside bluntly) No, I don't trust you!
The door slams in front of his nose. Micro-Ice sighs.
- Well, I guess that didn’t go well…
As he walks off with his head down into the hallway, he passes an equally withdrawn Tia, who doesn't even give him a look. She walks into the girls' room and goes to collapse on her bed.
Still struggling with her outfits which all suit her perfectly, Mei notices Tia's rather banal and functional sneakers on her feet, wide gray pants, tight T-shirt and sleeveless orange bomber jacket.
- Tia, let me remind you that the live stream is in less than an hour! You aren’t going out there like that, are you?
- I'm not going to go at all.
- Is that so? - Mei is surprised. - Don't you want to be on TV?
- No, I don't care.
Mei raises her eyebrows, surprised: for her, she has been dreaming about going on TV for years!
- Why?
- I don't want to be seen, that's all! - Tia answers dryly.
She starts rummaging in the bedside table, cutting off the conversation. Mei shrugs her shoulders and goes back to her dresses: yes, maybe the blue one would be fine after all, with her pink boots...
Tia takes a 2D photo from the drawer that she sadly begins to gaze at, where she is with a couple. If the woman has the same hair color as on the holo-card Aarch received, her cut is different and her face is rounder. The man is not at all alike: as much as the other looked like a thin bureaucrat with a pale complexion and glasses, he is burly, broad-shouldered, with a square face - and he has silver hair.
Her parents. Her real parents.
Who don't know she's here.
How will they react when they find out? That's why she especially doesn't want to be on TV...
However, she does not regret that she has run away and does not intend to return. Lying on her somewhat hard bed, amongst the minimalist decor and the comfort of this room which still smells too much of rough building works, she does miss the luxury of her residence on Obia... and especially the maternal love of her housekeeper - the one who really raised her, the only one who knew her talent and understood her… to the point of having helped her escape.
A true, 30 year, tropetastic, queer love story. (Part 1)
Tumblr media
Pls open the link if you'd like to read a 30 year, trope-tastic true queer romance featuring pining, instalove, swords, childhood-friends-to-lovers and a happy ending.
We THINK the story begins in 1991. We know it starts at theatre day-camp for kids, a summer when we were both in elementary school.
The earliest memories are vague- I remembered a super cool kid from the older class with dark eyes who I was desperate to eat lunch with every day.
It's taken us years to reconstruct the timeline. We have figured out I did go to her house outside of camp that first year, because I remember her bird that tried to bite me. We can only guess at years based on camp themes.
Because we were little kids. I was 7. So we lost touch.
But here's the thing- we kept going to the same camp. She was always in a class ahead of me, because I'm a year and a half younger.
And every year- apparently without remembering we'd met before? We became summer best friends. Drawn together over and over.
But, being disorganized kids in a world of lesser tech, every year, when camp ended, we lost phone numbers- we lived a good 30 minutes away from each other, so I have to imagine our parent's weren't exactly heartbroken at the loss. It was a lot of driving.
In 4th grade, when I was 9, I made a new best friend, named Meredith. My parents heartily recommended the summer theatre camp to hers, and she was sent with me, the next year.
She, was older than me, so she was in Ty's class. & having excellent taste, also made friends with her.
The three of us played together all summer.
Then came the fall, and the inevitable lost contact. I remember being sad about that much more clearly, that year.
BUT, the big change happened when I was 10.
Again, sent to camp. Again, my friend Meredith was there to.
At lunch, I found them playing together. I went to introduce myself to the obviously cool older girl.
For some reason I tried to shake her hand? Little weirdo.
Ty reacts to me the same way- oh hey! Cool new person! I want to be friends!
Meredith looks at us both like we're out of our minds.
"You know each other. We played all last summer."
And suddenly, the spell of childhood amnesia was broken.
I DID know her. We were FRIENDS.
We HAD BEEN FRIENDS for years.
She LIKED ME.
SHE LIKED ME.
(love with memory disabilities is a trip, folks. And her lil ADHD kid brain was struggling right alongside mine)
We were elated.
But that wasn't the last shock to my little 10 year old heart that 5 week summer camp would bring.
Meredith was, and is, a poet. Somehow she had a habit, at 11 years old, of making up poems about people's eyes.
Weird stuff. I remember a pair of green eyes being compared to a deep sea, were the bones of drunken drowned sailors floated.
Very Anne of Green Gables.
And- I remember this part with perfect clarity. She turned to me and said, do you know who has pretty eyes? Ty.
We were crossing the stage, Ty was carrying a box of props like 15 feet ahead of us.
I said "does she?"
And then, ever the romantic I screamed "HEY TY TURN AROUND I WANNA SEE SOMETHING!"
She did.
And for the first time, I looked into the dark eyes I'd been drawn to for all those years, and saw them anew.
There's a reason cupid's supposed to have arrows.
I swear to you that this is true. It felt like an actual blow to my chest. Like a physical blow.
I was stunned. My little heart was hammering out of control.
I have no idea what I said, or did, or looked like after that.
But I figured out pretty quickly what that was. It was not subtle, even to a prepubescent nearly 6th grader.
But I was a pragmatic little almost-6th-grader.
This was a crush. Middle schoolers have crushes.
And they're supposed to fade over time.
I don't remember if I was worried that my crush was on a girl. I just remember the certainty that this was just a child's crush, and therefor nothing that would last or cause problems.
And when fall came, I lost her number again.
But this time I was devastated.
But, this time a hero saved the day! Meredith, sweet, wonderful, more-organized-than-either-of-us Meredith, still had the number.
And this time, I held on to it.
We became year round besties.
For the first year of adoring her year-round, I didn't worry about my little crush. It'd go away in time.
By 7th grade, it started to be a problem.
We were having sleep overs, and I started to feel guilty about how much I wanted to look at her and cuddle her all the time.
I don't think I told anyone right away. But Meredith was always the smartest of us three.
She's the one who proposed we play "wedding". She presided over the ceremony herself, and her little sister was our wedding photographer.
Oddly, even though I didn't know about this photo till years later, this is a game both of us remember playing.
It meant... something.
Image
I started to feel guilty. We were having sleep overs, talking every day on the phone. I wanted to look at her all the time- I wanted to be with her all the time. I wanted to kiss her, and started to realize she might be bothered by that.
I never wanted to hide anything from her.
So, I confessed my love. I didn't think of this as being especially radical or brave, but in retrospect, I'm impressed by 12 year old Lee's behavior.
She smiled brightly, and said she loved me to!
As her best friend.
I clarified my position.
She repeated that she loved me as her very best friend.
And these feelings were a bit scary and BIG, so that was all good. She still wanted to hang out all the time. Life was good.
By 8th grade, I was starting to worry. The crush hadn't worn off yet. Everyone told me these things wore off.
But I was more in love with her than ever.
And when Meredith moved to Nashville, we got even closer.
We joined the MN sword club. Made new friends. In the way of these things, a whole lot of them turned out to be some evolving variety of queer. Friends started coming out.
I barely needed to, my crush was horrifyingly obvious to all our friends.
I promised you swords. The swords don't feature prominently, but the club was a major connection for us for years, and this detail has always struck me.
I'm not an especially good fencer. Especially then. I was constructed out of raw spaghetti noodles and moved like creaky budget claymation most of the time. I was calculating, but slow.
She was fast, and brash, and more skilled than me. She eventually beat some nationally recognized fencers. We called her "fiery Tybalt" because we're a bunch of big ol nerds who wanted to sound smart. She eventually took her name from that nickname.
Even at only 5ft tall, she should have beaten me handily and reliably. She could hold her own against much better fencers.
But we actually got BANNED from sparring together, because we were so evenly matched we could never get enough points for a win.
My one and only expertise in fencing was knowing her. But she knew me just as well, so there was a stalemate.
Our friends laughed at us.
I confessed my love again in 8th grade.
And 9th.
10th.
11th.
I never wanted to lie to her. It was important to me that she knew what I was thinking and feeling, but it was also important that I not burden her with it.
She always gave me the same answer. She loved me. She loved me SO MUCH.
What a shame she was straight.
Now, readers, let me remind you we're looking at two queer kids in the 90s at this point.
There were pressures at play.
When I was in 11th grade, she left for college. And she was far enough away that long distance calls were expensive. I couldn't call her every day.
What I remember most about senior year was being depressed and lonely.
But also, that after years of my family despairing of my ever learning to type, and eventually getting me the (then very expensive) dragon speech-to-type program so I could type my homework and not fail school- my contact with her was suddenly all in text. AOL messenger.
People have commented at all my workplaces about my typing speed. I type 120 words per minute now.
Specifically because it was the only way to talk to her most days.
I went to college the following year. We both got boyfriends. Both nice boys who liked and admired us.
BOTH broke up with us because we so obviously preferred each other over them. To an embarrassing degree.
The boy I was dating- bless him he only lasted 3 months- specifically told me "if I go out with you any more I'm going to fall in love with you. And you're in love with her."
Slick bastard.
He was right tho.
I couldn't be mad at him.
But this is when I started to really panic.
It'd been 6 years. My first crush was still absolutely roaring. Nobody else came close to tempting me.
And nobody else wanted to, when it became obvious they couldn't compete with her.
And she was still my best friend, so of course I told her. I told her I was miserable, because I was going to be single forever because nobody else would want me, because I was so in love with her.
She felt bad. She loved me so much. So much she'd been dumped to.
Such a shame she was straight.
I wouldn't find out till much later that that conversation had started something on her side, that, for once, she knew to keep from me.
She spent the next 6 months in intense contemplation.
She DID prefer me to all the other boys (and girls) who were chasing her in college.
And there were a lot of them.
She did think I was pretty, and she did love me. And she did want to be with me forever.
She'd been as dedicated to me as I was to her through this whole time. As caring, as invested, as, frankly, obsessed. Everyone could see it.
But she wasn't straight. She was bi.
And ace.
We wouldn't learn that word for many more years. All she knew was that the story of falling in love didn't match the love she was feeling.
But then she realized- she'd never felt the feelings she was "supposed" to feel for her boyfriend, either. She was not more attracted to him than to me. And he was a good looking guy. A catch by most any standard.
And she also hadn't loved him.
But she did love me.
So, my sophomore year of college (her junior year), we were preparing our trip to the Renaissance festival. A bunch of her friends were driving into town for it, and we'd see each other again at last. (we'd been back at school like 2 weeks, so naturally were desperate to meet up)
I am still flabbergasted as the next series of events.
She asked me out. On AOL instant messenger. After over 7 years of my pining, and adoration. After 7 years of choosing the pain of being near her and not being able to kiss her, over the desolation of not having her beside me
She very logically explained her reasoning.
I had a meltdown.
My poor room mate walked into our room to find me crying and throwing things at the computer screen.
I was convinced she was offering to date me because she felt bad for me. Because she loved me and wanted me to stop hurting and feeling alone.
So I turned her down.
That, friends, was HARD. REALLY HARD.
Thankfully, she was having none of it. She insisted it only made sense for us to date. I tried to stay firm. I refused repeatedly, all in that damned AOL messenger.
We reached a compromise- one date, at the Ren Fest, as a test.
And if it failed we'd never speak of it again.
Because the prospect of dating and breaking up was terrifying to us both.
If we were going to be together, we'd be defacto engaged. Neither of us could tolerate breaking up.
The weekend came- my college friends all knew, and accompanied me, made sure I was decked out in the best fair garb we could cobble together.
She drove up with her friends- including the ex- who had no idea what was happening. She had on her finest cape & boots & a swishy dress.
We could not manage to be alone together. Like it was a proper rom-com ridiculousness. All damn day.
But at least we were together.
She came back to my dorm that night, to spend the night, and drive back the next day.
Shout out to my room mate who stayed at her boyfriend's house that night. Love you, Lindsay.
We finally managed to kiss.
She abruptly decided kissing wasn't some weird thing people only pretended to like because it was normal, and was in fact an amazing wonderful thing we should do frequently.
I don't actually remember us deciding that the experiment was successful, and we'd be a romantic couple from then on.
Pretty sure the kissing melted my brain.
It was not like kissing my old boyfriend at all.
She went back to college the next day.
I do remember, that, MORE THAN ONCE, I nervously asked my roomy if this had all really happened. I was truly and genuinely concerned that I'd dreamed or fantasized the whole thing. I'd done both enough times before.
I couldn't just ask outright so I'd say something like. "Hey did anything- important happen yesterday?"
And she'd look at me like I was speaking some alien language, and tell me I was dating Ty now.
I wandered around in a dream-like stupor for a WEEK.
This is a good place to stop for now. More tonight. I need to go snuggle my baby and help my wife with lunch. 💖
Popping in briefly for the next installment.
All our friends knew immediately. Some of them- the newer ones, were confused because they had assumed we were always dating, on account of how blatantly in love we were all the damn time.
We decided tho, to hold off on telling our families. We decided to date a year first, to show that it was serious, and that we meant it.
It was a good year, full of the kind of pining that is regularly rewarded by happy weekends and spring breaks and summers.
The next august, before we went back to school, we each sat down our own parents. Hers were sort of "yeah ok whatever." I was not there for that conversation.
I went to my favorite restaurant with my own parents, and told them I was seeing someone. Dad was enthused. Wanted to meet him.
Well. I said. You have.
Because it's Ty.
Lisa Shepard vs Batarians
Behold, a meta about Lisa I’ve long wanted to write, inspired by this post about Torfan(got kinda long for just a reblog) and motivation provided by @fourthage‘s Mass Effect giveaway. (I’m much better about finishing things when I can give it a deadline, lol)
----
Lisa is my Colonist/Ruthless Infiltrator Shep, and let me tell you, that background combo made her really interesting to play(through the first two games, at least; my computer crashed before I had a chance to import her to ME3, rip) bc she has this big, glaring problem with batarians. The tl;dr is Mindoir was deeply traumatizing and no batarian ever did enough to counter the extremely negative image she has of their race as a result. (apologies for slight stream-of-consciousness rambling, I tried to rein it in, but I think I was only partially successful >.>)
So we start, obviously, on Mindoir. Lisa’s the oldest of four with three younger brothers; Justin, Finn, and Connor, and had two best friends; Javier and Laura. Life was routine and uneventful and the only thing she cared about the larger galaxy was getting to explore it with Javi and Laura after they all graduated.
And then the batarian raid happened. Lisa didn’t see her parents die, but she did see friends die in the initial attack, as well as Laura’s dad. She had to watch Finn and his best friend(Talitha) get dragged to a shuttle. She, Javi, and Laura hid in a storage shed with their remaining younger siblings(one of Laura’s sisters was gone, too) in hopes of keeping them safe. They spent the next three days in there. They were found by a few batarian patrols, somehow managed to kill them all with bare hands and makeshift weapons(or stolen, Lisa got a pistol off one she killed), even as their own numbers got picked down, younger sibling by younger sibling, and then Laura, and then Javi, until.Lisa was the last one left, memory etched with hearing her best friends and younger brothers, brothers she’d promised her parents she’d look out for, die very terrible deaths.
She was found by a couple soldiers from the rescuing Alliance patrol, and actually attacked them when they first came in the storage shed. They had to calm her down, and one went so far as to pull off his helmet so she could see they were human and weren’t going to hurt her. He introduced himself as Gabe and guided her out of her personal hell, both literally and figuratively. After everything she’d witnessed and heard and knew had happened to the colony, to her home, at the hands of the batarians, Lisa didn’t feel the least bit guilty for being glad the Alliance killed every last one of the slaving bastard scum they found. She’d lost everyone in the world she cared about to those monsters, she had every right to be glad they paid for it.
The soldier, Gabe, stuck with her until she’d made it back to Earth and escorted her to the foster home that had agreed to take her in. checked up on her a few times, offered to let her live with him and his roommates(another man and a woman, all three of them soldiers) if she wanted to. She took him up on that, and by the end of the third or fourth month, he was big brother and best friend rolled into one. Being on Earth meant she didn’t really have much(if any) direct interaction with batarians, but she was still working through her trauma and every time she heard them mentioned in news reports it was batarian pirates attacking a civilian vessel or batarian slavers raiding another colony--human, turian, whatever, all it did was reinforce her hostile view of them as a race.
She joined the Alliance military when she turned eighteen, feeling it was the best way to act out her gratitude of them saving her. She still missed her family and friends, of course, but she was healing and adjusting and while batarians still get her hackles up, she wouldn’t go out of her way to cause trouble with them. Largely because that would reflect badly on the Alliance, and she doesn’t want that. She proves to be an excellent soldier, tech genius, and near-unparalleled sniper, which is what gets her the rec for N-school(courtesy of Captain Anderson, who was Gabe’s CO. Gabe introduced them the day she enlisted). She excels in N-school(she’s always been the sort to thrive on challenge) and is clearly going to graduate with flying colors, so she and Gabe work it out--he’s coming for the ceremony, they each manage to get leave for the following week, they’re gonna spend time catching up and celebrating and just get to see each other face to face for the first time in... over a year.
And then, the week before graduation, Gabe is killed rescuing a diplomat’s kid from, you guessed it, batarian pirates(he’s one of only three KIA on that mission, which doesn’t make it sting any less)..That is when they cross the point of no return in her eyes. Two separate groups of batarians are responsible for the deaths of her family twice over. Clearly this was not a “few bad individuals” thing; this is a failing of them as a people(A people who have enslaving others enshrined as part of their culture to the point of calling it discrimination when they’re not allowed to practice it).
She is a driven, pragmatic, determined individual who wants to represent humanity and the Alliance well and so works just fine alongside every other race in Council space. She’s always willing to help, also always willing to make the hard calls to get a job done bc she learned early that people die. You can’t save everyone every time. You still try your damnedest to do it, but sometimes you can’t. And sometimes people die as a result of your decisions and you have to be able to live with that. She can.
And then TORFAN. Well, first Elysium, and then Torfan. By this point, she’s N4, risen to Commander, and absolutely willing to push her squad however hard it takes to accomplish their goal. (In any circumstances, these just happen to hit a tad closer to home than usual) The fight through Torfan’s tunnels to the pirate base is brutal, and there are several times her men point out maybe they should turn back. But she pushes on bc their mission is to take out this group of pirates. In her mind, batarians are already a threat, given their culture of slaving, piracy, and utter disregard for life and others in general. If they get away with attempting a full-scale attack like they did on a world like Elysium, they’ll be exponentially more dangerous. So there have to be repercussions and they have to be swift and they have to be brutal and unflinching and if she’s the one who doles that out so be it.
It costs her 3/4 of her squad, but they do it. They fight the pirates to the point of surrender and then Lisa shoots them anyway. Her mission was to eliminate the enemy, and she’s A) worried the batarians are surrendering as a show, with no intention of actually being prisoners, and B) convinced even if they did surrender, the Hedgemony would demand their return as “political prisoners” or something, with good odds they’d be released after just enough time this  “incident” will have faded from people’s memory, and she doesn’t want to risk either. So the dozen-odd surrendering batarians still.die. And while she didn’t take pleasure or satisfaction in doing it, she doesn’t regret it either. Her thought process is somewhere along the lines of “These are sadistic, murdering, slaving scumbags, who have the audacity to ask for the mercy they would never in a million years show their victims. The galaxy is better off without them.”) She doesn’t care it gets her labelled “The Butcher of Torfan” and that people look askance at her when they know her record. She got the job done, the galaxy is just that much safer, and she’s not going to lose any sleep over batarians.
She makes N7 and gets the Spectre nomination bc she pushes herself just as hard as anyone under her command, always gets the job done, and--aside from batarians--has no issue working with other races. When it comes to anyone else; turians, asari, hanar, whoever, she’s all too happy to follow Kaidan’s “jerks and saint, just like us” philosophy and judge them on an individual basis, but--and I’ve actually had her say this in fic--”If you ever find a saintly batarian, let me know and I’ll pin a medal on their chest my-damn-self”. Between what’s known of batarians as a race and culture and her own first or second hand experience, there is nothing redeeming about them in her eyes. (And it’s a very good thing she didn’t run into any during that... week after the Talitha encounter in ME1, bc she probably would have ripped them to shreds with just her bare hands and her omnitool after hearing what that poor girl went through.) She’s not going to go out of her way to gleefully/vindictively slaughter them, but she’s not feeling too charitable or sympathetic toward them, either. If I may make a cross-franchise reference, Lisa’s feeling on batarians are very similar to how Fenris feels about mages in DA2, only unlike him, she hasn’t gotten any examples they’re not all Like That(TM).
As of the end of ME2, she has not seen any evidence to counter her view of batarians, so it’s a view she’s gonna go into ME3 holding(whenever I get around to completely redoing her game), and I don’t see her changing it much at this point. It’s a flaw, and it’s one that’s going to persist probably her entire life, but it made playing her so much fun. (especially since my two previous Shepards were 98% Paragon ANGELS who are best described as bleeding hearts. xD)
