Distraught, that’s the main emotion Chenle felt at that moment. It felt like the world had collapsed around him and slowly started to tear into him, seemingly leaving a gaping chasm in his chest right where his heart used to beat rhythmically.

He felt that lump sits at the base of his throat, begging and pleading to come up in the form of acidy vomit. The sounds around him evaporated into muffled noise like he was being drowned, he felt like he was being drowned and the one thing that brought him to was the soft gentle touch on his shoulder. That one touch is what broke the tension in his shoulders, he could slowly feel the fear and anger dissipate. God, how could he have been so stupid.

He couldn’t help but feel like this was all his fault. I mean he is currently in promotions every move he makes is being honed in like he’s the main attraction at a zoo, he knew going out was risky yet all he wanted to do was see his boyfriend, is that too much to ask? He finally had a day off, the first one in weeks, and just because some guys who couldn’t find anything better to do than ruin idols' lives decided to show up he was the one to blame. They just couldn’t leave him and his boyfriend alone.

Chenle could slowly feel the anger growing steadily, the gentle touch on his back moving quietly in time with his growing emotions to tightly grasp his hand. Finally having the courage to look up for the first time in the droning meeting, and god he didn’t regret it, just meeting those perfect brown eyes; speckled with gold almost as if honey was swirling in his iris, those plump rosy lips curving up into an unnoticeable smile, and the cheeks dusted in light freckles, curly hair brushing his forehead and running down the nape of his neck like a veil a beautiful, blush pink veil that made those eyes he loved pop.

The managers in the room began to stop their rambling, noticing the one the meeting was for was no longer listening. They could see the love pouring out of the young man's eyes as if he was willing for his partner to take everything from him even his heart and he would just follow him to the ends of the earth, the managers weren’t stupid they could see the romance between the two it wasn’t just a fling and they doubted this ‘scandal’ would break what they had and they were glad. For the first time in years, they’ve seen their two idols truly happy, truly joyous and now they don’t know if each other was the cause but they can see they played apart.

In the following hours, both SM Entertainment and Starship Entertainment put out statements regarding their idols.

“Chenle of NCT Dream and M!Reader of Cravity are in a relationship and have been seeing each other for 2 years we wish them the best and hope fans do the same”

Both fans and idols alike were shocked the first openly gay idol couple had been revealed and many were truly happy for the two, although like many situations there was a ton of hate yet both companies took action and dealt with any malicious comments.

Several weeks had passed since the news broke out, and the couple was doing well. They didn't have to hide anymore and were over the moon. I mean, who wouldn't be? Getting caught and being in love, at this point, who cares what others think when you have each other? You're in love at this point who cares what others think.

with all of the criticism NATLA is receiving, i'd like to bring up another point that i feel like i haven't seen many people talking about, and i think this really contributes to the lack of overarching atmosphere NATLA has.

i think a lot of people have already expressed the sentiment that this live-action adaptation really misses on a lot of characterization. katara seems bland and one-dimensional, aang is constantly stressed and anxious about the future every time he's on screen, sokka just doesn't quite have that quintessential sokka-ness we as a fandom know and love.

i'd argue that part of the reason that the show is lacking that characterization is first because of screentime. as a show with ~20 episode seasons, the original atla has TONS of filler episodes, but these filler episodes let us see different facets of the characters and ulitmately aid in seeing how characters behave when the overarching plot is not driving them at that very moment.

however, i believe that even with a shorter season that can't fit any filler, you can still capture those kinds of moments. instead, what i'd argue worsened this lack of characterization is a lack of those silly, twangy themes we all know and love from the original.

you know what i'm talking about? aang would make a joke and we'd have goofy melodic lines playing, or momo would appear and we'd hear this:

the original ATLA was so creative in using music to paint a picture- in serious moments, it matched the mood entirely, in quiet, peaceful ones it made you feel like you were right there, on appa's back with the rest of the gaang, and in silly ones, it gave a sense of heart and lightness to the show.

watching the live action, we just didn't get that same range of emotion, and i do believe this is in part because the music just missed so much.

despite my criticism above, i'm excited to see the show renewed. i truly hope that the writers take the critiques they've seen from the fan's responses and use those to write the show better. the actors really are being limited by the directing & writing, and once that limiting factor is resolved, i really hope to see the show recapture that heart and soul that is so present in the original:)<3

Elams... it's one of those places I don't usually go, because my preference is for gay!Laurens and I just can't see him having a sexual relationship with Eliza (which is sometimes how those stories go). Now I'm thinking of Laurens in his late 40s, by then settled at home with the Hamiltons, getting pulled out of adventuring retirement because, per Alex, "Wouldn't that be sooooo funny?" Laurens would have so many ways to get on Jefferson's nerves, from calling out his slavery hypocrisy to insisting that Jeffs calls him "General Laurens" (after he gets shot at Combahee and survives, he gets a field promotion to brigadier mostly to keep him out of further trouble). aw nice! Glad that you are! There will be many more on this blog, for sure. I loved it! For a live-action City Hunter film made in 2024 I think they did a very good job. I just got finished re-watching it just now and I really want more: give a sequel, a series, everything! I love the CH world/it's characters so much, it would be hard for them to fuck it up to a point that would make me hate it. Is it as good as the manga or anime? Of course not (imo) but I'm pretty sure we fans of it all knew it'd be pretty much impossible nowadays to touch those. But I really enjoyed it a lot and am excited that it exists and hope to get more with these actors in the near future.

Some people have been saying that live action Sanji feels a little bit more soft and endearing than manga Sanji, but they can't pinpoint why because he does still feel like Sanji. Some people think it's just Taz's acting, and he does do a great job, but I don't think that's the main reason. Others think his flirting has been turned down a bit, but honestly it hasn't really? He still openly flirts with Nami when they first meet, and he still says things like "women are a mystery to be unraveled" and other goofy simp stuff. And his kindness like being willing to feed the hungry no matter what is obviously something that was always there (it's why Luffy chose him in the first place. Hell, in the manga he chooses Sanji as his cook before he ever actually tastes Sanji's cooking, simply because he sees Sanji feed Gin and realizes what kind of person Sanji is).

But there is a difference! And I've figured out what it is, because there IS one manga/anime Sanji trait that wasn't present in live action Sanji: his hatred of men.

#One piece #OPLA #OPLA spoilers #Obviously it was played for jokes he wasn't like actively cruel towards men and was kind to them too #Like feeding them if they were starving #And he obviously cared about his friends #He was misandrist is a silly cartoonish way #But it did highlight the way he treated women differently from men and made his flirting and simping come across as way more over the top #In comparison to how he behaved towards women #And I think it was a smart choice because English speaking audiences are especially sensitive to that sort of thing these days #I think the only other thing that gives him a slightly different vibe #is live action can't give him heart eyes or have him do the wiggling stuff lol #So his simping feels toned down even though technically he simps a similar amount as in canon #I do think it's funny how some fans like him better in live action because of this on tumblr dot com aka the OG man hating website #Like fans who are caught up understand WHY he's hostile towards men compared to women in canon (see: WCI) #but I don't mind them leaving it out in the live action #And it isn't like an integral key to who he is as a person/character #People who were already Sanji fans knew he was their problematic little meow meow #But it's nice that live action can showcase his kind and soft side a bit more #Like that stuff is already there in canon but he's a little more tsundere about it y'know? one thing I really do not like about the live action avatar so far (and tbf there are. quite a few things) is that the philosophy behind the different bending styles doesn't seem differentiated enough. I don't really like that aang keeps giving katara advice about how to waterbend when he's not even done any waterbending himself at this point. obviously there are similarities between the styles, and aang having airbended before does give him an advantage, but one of the strengths of the og avatar cartoon is how each style of bending has it's own philosophy and mindset attached to it. the avatar finds balance not just because they have different powers, but because they have to master the perspectives and philosophies and techniques associated with those powers. you can't just transplant airbending technique onto waterbending technique and expect great success

they missed the opportunity for this kind of worldbuilding in the first episode too. in the cartoon, Iroh criticises Zuko's technique and tells him that power in firebending comes from the breath and not the muscle. in the live action, he just compliments his abilities. it's a small detail to lose overall, but it feels so crucial to elevating the magic system into something more than just cool element powers

I do also feel that, visually, the formations for the bending styles don't feel different enough. they are so distinct in the original cartoon that most fans could probably tell if a character was airbending, waterbending, earthbending or firebending without even needing to to see any elemental effects. there is some differentiation in the live action but it doesn't feel as strong

#the live action series is not as bad as it could've been but it's not good either #the acting is pretty poor overall and the cgi is bad for how insanely high budget this show was #they've also taken all of Katara's fiery personality away and I'm not a fan of that at all #sokka feels slightly toned down but accurate. I'm mostly okay with that #but removing his sexism was a dumb move imo. they could've toned it down and made it feel a bit less hammy but he should've still had it #avatar #the last airbender #avatar live action
