Warnings: THIS IS JUST A TEASER, frat boy!christian, college au, this was inspired by my favourite scene from skam italia

Notes: I'M FINALLY WRITING IT! even though i know i have plenty of other stuff i should be writing first...oops. ANYWAY....this was partly inspired by skam italia. thoughts? opinions? do we like it so far? please tell me!!!

"Do you know what this is?"

"It's appears to be a guitar," Christian answers, taking a seat at his desk, which was surprisingly tidy. You had half expected it to be a mess or something he would've called an 'organised mess.'

"No, this, my friend, is a weapon," you correct him, resting the guitar comfortably on your lap. You strum the strings, letting the harsh sound ring out. "This is your weapon," you explain, curling your hand around the fret, "this is how you've acquired a string of many broken hearts, isn't it?" He chuckles, shaking his head. "First, you act like a jerk with girls. Then you bring them up to your room. You sing them a song, and they'll say, 'oh, Christian! You're such a sensitive boy!'"

He holds both hands up in the air. "You've got me all figured out," he laughs, nodding his head, "I can play for you, if you'd like?"

"You could," you shrug your shoulders, "but I don't think I'm your usual type."

You pluck your fingers at the strings and, before you know it, your right hand is switching between plucking and strumming the strings as your left hand remained on the fret, switching between a sequence of chords. You hadn't touched a guitar in a couple of years, but together, they created a rusty but soft melody. "When you were here before, couldn't look you in the eye," you sang quietly to yourself, closing your eyes and allowing yourself to be transported into your own little world, "you're just like an angel; your skin makes me cry..."

Christian leans forward, the chair squeaking as he moves to rest his elbows on his knees, and he tilts his head to the side, watching you play his guitar. A soft, partial smile twitches on the corners of his lips. This was unexpected. You had surprised him.

"...you float like a feather in a beautiful world," when you open your eyes, goosebumps tingle your entire body as you find Christian staring at you, "I wish I was special; you're so fucking special." You stop singing and remove the guitar from your lap, moving to lie it down on his bed. "Sorry," you apologise, mumbling under your breath.

"Don't be," Christian shakes his head, "that was incredible." His compliment makes your stomach flutter with butterflies. "I didn't know you could play, let alone sing too?" His smile widens. "So much for me being the one who is meant to serenade you."

You shake your head, "not really, it's sort of the only song I can successfully play. My dad tried to get me to play the guitar when I was a kid..." Your voice trails off at the end, stopping yourself before you have a chance to ramble. That was the last thing you wanted to do, ramble on about a person you barely knew to a person you also didn't know. Looking back and forth between him and the floor, you give him an unconvincing smile. "Has my roommate texted you back yet?"

Christian pulls his phone out of his pocket. "No," he shakes his head. Standing to his feet, he moves his guitar and sits next to you. "You can check for yourself if you don't believe me," he says, offering his phone, but you shake your head.

“Oh, wow. Lookie who’s here, Buck.”

Pausing his arm stretches, Bucky turned to look at where his friend, Sam, was ponting. His eyes landed on the rival team, who was walking onto the other side of the field. It took him a second to understand his friend’s words, though, until he saw one player in particular, who he assumed had to be who Sam meant.

Y/N, who was his, Sam’s, and Steve’s best friend from highschool and Bucky’s crush. He had fallen for her during senior year and his feelings reamined even as they were sophomores in college. Thankfully, they went to colleges in the same state, which allowed them to keep in touch so their friendship wouldn’t plummet.

“Yeah, what about her?” Bucky asked, turning back to face Sam. He retained a neutral look on his face, knowing that any blush or frown would give Sam what he wanted.

Instead of launching into his teasing about Bucky’s crush on her, like he usually did, his gaze didn’t move from watching Y/N. “I thought she was on the tennis team,” he said.

From his stance a few feet away, Steve rolled his eyes. “You didn’t know she was on her school’s baseball team too? She wore her jersey the last time we had lunch with her,” he reminded Sam.

“I thought it was a tennis jersey!”

“Tennis players don’t wear jerseys.”

Bucky returned his gaze at Y/N, tuning out his friends’ bickering. He watched her take a swig of water from her water bottle before she joined her team in a huddle. Every time he saw her, his heart would leap and his stomach would sink, just as they did so now. It was bittersweet, really. She didn’t return his affection, he was well aware of that, since the last time they talked she mentioned a date with her boyfriend. Ever since they had enrolled in separate colleges, Sam and Steve had encouraged Bucky to move on from his feelings for her. To humor them, he had tried at first, but didn’t mind his unrequited feelings for her much most of the time - at least, that’s what he told himself.

Besides, how could he, when Y/N looked adorable in the baseball cap she wore?

“Uh, hell-o?” That was Sam.

“Earth to Bucky?” Steve.

A blink and suddenly Steve’s hand was waving in front of his face.

“Sorry, what?” Bucky stumbled, realizing he had zoned out while thinking about his romantic woes.

He ignored how his friends' cracked smirks. “Coach wants us-” Steve began to say, but was interrupted by the man’s shouts “-on the field.”

Bucky nodded and did a couple more halfhearted arm stretches before walking with Steve and Sam. He got into his pitching position, Sam went to first base, and Steve to second. The rest of their team was already at their own places, and the first member of Y/N’s team stepped up to bat - which turned out to be Y/N herself.

Despite the fact that she was the enemy, Bucky didn’t care to keep a smile off his face. She smiled back and added a small nod, which made his heart flutter (but he was sure to scold himself in his thoughts, needing to be on his a-game).

With the coaches off to the side, the referee started the game.

With that, Bucky pitched. The ball sailed through the air quite quickly, as he wasn’t about to let his feelings for Y/N get in the way of him playing. He still wanted his team to win, after-all. Still, a small part of him cheered when her bat made contact and the ball suddenly soared across the field in the other direction. She managed to get to second base before someone picked it up, where she decided not to run to third yet.

From there, the game continued at a steady pace. Unfortunately for Bucky and fortunately for Y/N, though, Y/N’s team was winning. Bucky wasn’t too bummed about that - he enjoyed the sport for the fun of it, and had learned from Steve to not get so upset about their losses - but couldn’t say the same for his teammates. He noticed that Sam quickly became grumpy and morale amongst the players was dropping quickly.

Which was why, in hindsight, the next thing that happened shocked everyone more than an occurrence like that normally would. In a game where a clear outcome was predicted, no one had thought that this would happen to stir it up.

Alas, it did. Y/N was on first base, preparing at any second to belt to third. The last thing Bucky caught a glimpse of before preparing to pitch was her laughing at something that Sam told her. He pitched the ball and the batter hit it. The ball raced into the sky, heading towards the far end of the field. The batter ran, and so did Y/N, but a third party joined them. One of Bucky’s own teammates, who had been positioned nearby. The ball had gone in the direction of the space between second and third base, and so did he. Why he didn’t let someone further down the field try to go for it, Bucky couldn’t say. All he knew was with his teammate running towards the space between second and third base, and Y/N running from second to third, a collision happened. Bucky’s teammate crashed into Y/N, and they both tumbled to the ground, half in the mud.

His eyes widened and his feet spurred into motion when, after a couple seconds, his teammate pushed himself up but Y/N remained on the ground. By the time he got over there, Steve had beat him to it, one hand cautiously resting on her arm. Y/N was still laying on the ground, but propped herself up by her elbow. One half of her head was muddy and bruised and she snaked her free arm around her ankle, holding it.

“Shit, Y/N! Are you okay?” Bucky asked, dropping to his knees beside her.

Before she could open her mouth and give the blatant answer that no, she was very much not okay, Steve cut in in a low voice. “You can’t tell from the crowd but I saw him push her when they collided.”

At that, Bucky whipped his head around to locate his teammate. When his eyes narrowed on the guy, already whining to their coach about how he was “injured”, Bucky saw red. He went to rise and go over there to - well, he didn’t know exactly what - until a trembling hand tugged at his balled-up fist.

Able to distinguish her from anywhere, Bucky’s anger melted away within seconds at her touch. “Take me to the nurse's office, please?” She requested, her voice small as she fought to keep the pain out of it. Bucky’s tight fist softened and he nodded.

“Of course,” he murmured, nodding. “Can you walk?”

Grimacing, Y/N said, “Just help me off the field and then carry me.”

Bucky had to smile at that, understanding that she didn’t want to be carried in front of her team and her opponent’s school. “You got it, boss,” he said, making her smile, too.

“Uh, are you sure the ref and coach’s gonna allow you to take her? They’d probably rather someone from her own team,” Sam pointed out, having just arrived.

Bucky bit his lip and looked back on Y/N. The look on her face told him that she wanted him to take her, and he wanted to be the one to take her, anyway. Turning to Steve and Sam, he pleaded hastily, “Just - cover for me, okay?”

Steve and Sam agreed and both wished for Y/N to get better soon before Bucky helped her to her feet. With a slight hiss of pain, she leaned further into her friend’s side. Bucky would probably be getting butterflies in his stomach if he wasn’t worried about her. With one arm securely around her, he began helping her half-walk, half-hop at a good pace.

Almost immediately, they heard protests from the coaches. However, Steve and Sam jumped up to calm them down. Y/N did her best to not pay attention to all those people paying attention to her and Bucky kept his gaze straight ahead. The second they got inside, Y/N let out a breath, and Bucky went to pick her up bridal style.

“Thank god,” she mumbled in relief, feeling the weight lift off her ankle as she instinctively rested her head against Bucky’s shoulder.

“Hurts that badly, huh?” Bucky asked, frowning in sympathy as he steered in the direction of the nurse.

Y/N nodded. “It’s just my head and my ankle, mostly. My shoulder hurts too but I think it’s just bruised,” she said.

“That would make sense, he did push you to the ground,” Bucky recounted bitterly, thinking back to the scene with a small shake of his head.

Y/N let out a small sigh. Part of her knew that the logical thing would be to tell Bucky not to do anything about it, that it wasn’t necessary, but the other part of her couldn’t find it in her much to care. As the pain set in, she figured the guy deserved whatever Bucky dealt to him. But, her sigh conveyed enough, and he bit his tongue from speaking out.

Thankfully, the nurse was on duty when they arrived. Seeing the two players, he ushered them inside, muttering something about the sports on campus. As Bucky put Y/N down on a makeshift examination table, Y/N explained what happened as the nurse got out the first aid kit.

As the nurse began to examine Y/N, Bucky shuffled to the side awkwardly. After a couple minutes of looking around at the plain walls, he decided that he might as well step outside to give her more privacy. When he did, and chose to stand right outside the now-closed door, he let out a breath that he had been holding in. At that moment, he felt a buzz, and pulled out his phone to see texts from Steve and Sam.

From Steve, it read: “Game ended. Y/N’s team won. How is she?”

From Sam: “Coach is PISSED at you, man. Expect to run double the laps at next practice. How’s your damsel in distress doing, dashing knight? Lol.”

Typing a response to Steve, Bucky wrote: “She’ll be happy to hear that. She’s getting checked out by the nurse now - I’ll update when I can.”

He texted Sam a “rolling eyes” emoji, telling him to ask Steve.

He entertained himself by going through his texts and the various apps on his phone until the door opened and the nurse appeared. “She’ll be okay, just needs rest,” he reported.

Nodding in relief, Bucky stepped aside to allow the nurse to exit and then went inside himself. Y/N was sitting on the bed, bandages on her head and shoulder and a brace on her ankle. “How are you feeling?” He asked, sitting beside her and offering a smile.

“I’ve been better,” she answered, echoing the smile. Then, after a moment, added: “Um, is it alright if I stay with you guys tonight? There's been an extra bed since John moved out, right? There’s no one to help me back to my dorm at my uni and stuff - I’m sorry.”

Furrowing his eyebrows, Bucky replied, “There’s no need to apologize! You know you’re welcome to stay anytime . . . But isn’t your boyfriend around to take you back? Actually, I’d expect him to join us the moment he saw you hurt. Where is he?”

The moment he mentioned her boyfriend, he could see how her gaze dropped to the bed and the smile slipped off her face. However, he was in too deep, and could only allow his words to tumble off the tip of his tongue. When he finished, he bit his lip anxiously, watching her response.

“We broke up.”

Bucky’s eyes widened and his lips formed an ‘o’ shape. After a second, he got his bearings and fumbled to reply. “Oh - I’m-I’m so sorry, Y/N,” he said.

Shaking her head, Y/N looked back up at him, “I’m okay, really. I’m over him. I just got reminded of the break-up . . . It was messy,” she admitted, nodding to convince him.

He believed her and nodded himself. “Do you want to get going, then? Steve and Sam won’t be at the dorm for a while,” he told her, moving to stand up.

She nodded and took the hand he extended her, cautiously planting her feet on the ground. She bit back a wince at the pain in her ankle and pushed herself up, ending up stumbling a bit when she tried to take a step from the dizziness of her head. Bucky was quick to notice and steady her, wrapping an arm around her as he allowed her to lean against him.

With the dizziness fading, Y/N wiggled her ankle a little, marveling at how strange the brace felt. “It, uh, might be best for you to carry me again, if you don’t mind. I swear I’ll get used to this thing by the morning,” she told him.

Smiling, Bucky hoisted her up in his arms, carrying her like he did before. “My pleasure,” he said, recalling the text exchange with Sam. Instead of thinking about his role as the Knight with annoyance like he did at the time, he found himself just smiling about it.

He took off in the direction of his dorm, neither speaking much until Y/N got the door’s key from Bucky’s pocket and they went inside. Bucky used his shoulder to turn on the lightswitch, illuminating a room that showed a messy bunk bed (Bucky’s was on the top, Sam’s was on the bottom) and two standalone beds - one Steve’s and the other empty.

Bucky plopped Y/N onto the empty bed, which he and his friends had dubbed the “guest bed”. Immediately, she let her muscles relax and nestled her head against the pillow. Bucky looked down at her with a frown and then offered, “Hey, do you want to borrow some of my pajamas to sleep in?” He didn’t wait for her answer before turning around and crossing the room to get to his drawer, where he began pulling out clothes.

Y/N shook her head. “No, no. You’ve done enough for me,” she mumbled, closing her eyes as she realized how tired she really was.

Bucky scoffed. “Don’t be silly. It’s no trouble and you can’t sleep in muddy clothes,” he insisted, before lightly tossing the clothes on her stomach. He headed to the bathroom to give her some privacy.

Cracking her eyes open, Y/N maneuvered herself into a sitting position and observed the clothing. She couldn’t help but shake her head in amusement when she spotted that the shirt he had given her was a team spirit one for his school’s baseball team. Y/N was able to slip on the baggy shorts with ease, but found it difficult to get the shirt on with her injured shoulder.

“Bucky!” She called, turning so her back would be to him when he exited the bathroom. “Can you help me with my shirt?”

A couple seconds later, she heard the door open and him shuffling over.

When Bucky saw the bandage, he let out a small sigh, but nonetheless took the shirt from her and helped her get it on. When they finished, Bucky thought for a moment about another offer he had while Y/N laid down on the bed, on her side.

“If you want, I could give you a massage? I know you’re in pain, and it might help you sleep. It helped my mother,” he said.

Y/N sighed. “You don’t have to,” she said, but it came out as an unintended mumble.

Rolling his eyes at her stubbornness, Bucky went ahead to give her the massage, being mindful of her shoulder in the process. After a couple minutes of it, Y/N said, “You might as well lie down, you know. You don’t have to stay awake on my account.”

Bucky had to admit, she had a point. He was tired. Shuffling a bit, he laid down beside her, letting out a content sigh when he rested his eyes.

He wasn’t sure how long had passed until Y/N spoke up, but when she did it was in a whisper, so clearly she was half-asleep. “You know, the reason why my boyfriend and I broke up was because he thought I liked you . . . and I do.”

This made Bucky’s eyes pop open. “I like you too,” he admitted in a quiet, low voice.

When she didn’t respond, he sat up and peeked over, only to smile when he saw her fast asleep. He laid back down and closed his eyes, falling asleep wearing a smile.

When Steve and Sam walked in later, they did nothing but grin as they spotted their friends. Steve made a beeline for his own bed, while Sam took the opportunity of getting to sleep on the top bunk for once by stealing Bucky’s bed.

so i read A LOT of fics this year and i wanted to share them with y’all. there were so many good ones from all different pairings and i hope this helps you find some gems. pls enjoy!!

if only to say you're mine by hammersandstrings -- namkook fake relationship au that is seriously wholesome and sweet. i love it

bad boys don't fall in love by strangedesires -- OK AHEM this is the dirty dancing au i have been waiting for my whole life. 50k words of namkook tension and sweetness and i love it

Sunflower by jonghyunslisterine -- wow. ok this one is a yoonmin arranged marriage au but also a/b/o but also mob au?? and it all comes together so beautifully. it’s on the longer side and has heavy stuff but the relationship at its core is so lovely and convincing

and behind your eyes, the sea by jonghyunslisterine -- jonghyunlisterine is just so freaking prolific and never disappoints. this is a yoonmin little mermaid au that made my heart hurt in a good way

Sweet Music Playing in the Dark by GinForInk -- uhhh this is a must-read. a/b/o namkook au that has such incredible relationship dynamics it’s honestly masterful.

In Yggdrasil's Roots by GinForInk -- this is in the same universe as Kepler and Gliese by the same writer, it’s yoonseok and it is just so good. GinForInk has such a way of writing characters with so much depth and personality and i love the universe and worldbuilding so much.

she said she can do it right by brightlight -- taegi genderbend au! it’s so sweet.

this is my second date by misspamela -- oof this is such a creative concept! basically seokmin hook up in a hotel room and it’s supposed to be a one-off thing but they end up getting snowed in and things go from there, it’s cuteee

your taste is so sweet on my lips by tteokie -- this was technically begun in 2017 but completed in 2019, it’s a taegiseok(?) bakery au full of sweetness

of love and its simplicity by atechamcham -- taekook!! magic au!! i love it!!

number one with a bullet by aborescent -- this is the 2seok sequel to sugar, we're going down swinging by the same writer, both of them are sherlock aus!! this one features jin as mycroft which is so fitting. it’s honestly so gooddd i love how each character is written

Up Next for thelittlefanpire:

I’ve got a terrible habit of starting things and not finishing them...but I did write 12 fics(80k+) so far in 2k19, most of them are one shots and complete but there’s a few WIPs I’d like to wrap up and ideas that definitely need to be laid to rest before the fandom dies. #RIPTwilightWIPs. Most of these are titled. All of these probably have their own board on Pinterest and a moodboard in my drafts.
