ADAM RUZEK MASTERLIST
Tumblr media
“Y/N!”
You let out an involuntary groan under your breath that only Adam could hear from where he was sitting next to you, prompting him to glance up, his eyes falling on the guy who was pushing his way through the crowd towards you.
You were literally never going to forgive your parents for inflicting this on you. Ever.
Moving to America should have stomped out ancient ideas like arranged marriages a long time ago. And yet, you’d only met Andrew again after more than ten years because they’d disguised the lunch as a catch up with old family friends, with everyone but you knowing what it really was - a matchmaking session. It was like they’d just ignored everything you said about already seeing someone.
Granted, they’d told you that the final decision was yours to make, which meant they weren’t that backward. But even after turning him down multiple times, Andrew was still dancing around you and pushing for you to give him a chance.
You turned your eyes up in a look of exasperation.
“Three times is not a charm.” You snapped, not bothering to hide the distaste in your words. “You’re basically stalking me.”
That definitely struck a chord with Adam as he got to his feet, looking Andrew straight in the eye, his body angled towards him so that he was now standing protectively in front of you, his body practically blocking you from Andrew’s line of vision.
Obviously Adam knew everything. You’d told him the moment you’d finally escaped from that hell of a lunch, and told him every time that Andrew had come looking for you. But this was the first time they were coming face to face and although you’d happily see Adam knock this asshole to his feet, you weren’t willing to let Adam get in trouble for it.
Andrew didn’t even flinch, behaving as if you’d both just offered him a polite hello.
“So is this him?” Andrew asked, looking around Adam towards you and you gritted your teeth. Wherever this was going, it wasn’t going to be pretty.
You glanced along the line of tables, noting with immense gratitude that Jay and Will were just at the next table with Kevin. Whatever was happening seemed to have just caught their attention as Jay raised an eyebrow at you. You discreetly put a finger up to tell Jay to wait and see, to which he just nodded quietly.
Adam gave you a small smile even though you’d ignored him.
“Y/N, come on. You’re a lawyer and he’s a… officer?”
You growled. “What the hell do you think you’re doing?”
Adam interrupted this time. “Walk away.”
You could hear the intense effort Adam was using not to start throwing punches.
Andrew laughed before addressing Adam. “Have you even thought about it? What kind of life you can give her? With your pitiful paycheck, the hours you spend away from her? You going to let her rough it out with you?”
Was this guy serious?
But your face angled upwards as you realized Adam was hesitating.
You reached over for his hand, quietly slipping your fingers through his.
Adam glanced back at you and you offered him a small smile, the unspoken words between you seeming to set a new resolve in his eyes as he turned back once again to Andrew.
“You can have your high position, place or whatever.”
Andrew paused for a moment but Adam wasn’t done. “I don’t know about high or low places, but my place is next to Y/N.”
You let out a proud grin, squeezing Adam’s hand encouragingly.
A look of anger passed across Andrew’s face, which was Jay and Kevin’s cue to make their presence felt.
Andrew glanced between Adam, Jay and Kevin, as well as Will who had now got to his feet as well. Deciding that it wasn’t worth the fight, Andrew glanced back. “This isn’t over.”
“Yes, it is.” You muttered, pulling Adam back down to sit.
Adam glanced at you after nodding thanks to his friends before he turned back to you.
“Adam Ruzek.”
Adam paused as you called his full name.
“Don’t you ever hesitate. Ever. I wouldn’t trade this for anything in the world.” You warned.
Adam smiled, leaning in to press a kiss to the top of your head. “Let’s go home.”
You nodded, smiling.
Tumblr media
It was about a few weeks later when you had been out with Adam that the both of you had run into Andrew again.
Truth be told, you’d already filed him away out of your mind, sure that he’d finally given up and moved on, maybe taken his stupid ass out of America.
So you’d been a little startled when he’d showed up, standing right in your path.
You glanced at Adam before offering him an eyeroll. You were getting really tired of this.
“I am literally going to file for a restraining order.” You directed at him.
“I’ve had it. You’re coming back with me.” Andrew reached over, his hand closing around your wrist as he roughly tugged you towards him.
Your other hand still clasped tightly in Adam’s, you felt a jerk, the opposing force from Adam’s hold on you only jerking you forward a few steps.
“Let her go.” Adam’s voice was low and dangerous, and you could hear it again, the edge between Adam’s composure and him pouncing on a guy right on the street.
You turned up to look at Andrew furiously. You didn’t care if you’d been friends when you were younger, this was getting ridiculous.
But before you could open your mouth, Andrew tugged you towards him even harder.
Adam didn’t move, his grip on you still firm but with opposing forces on both your arms, you hissed. Andrew’s grip on you felt like it was cutting off your blood circulation and you were about certain one of your arms were going to pop off.
Adam glanced at you and without warning, the grip Adam had had on your hand was gone and you stumbled the remaining distance towards Andrew.
You looked back at Adam, who just looked upset.
You glared up at Andrew. “Let me go. Now.”
“Why should I? He was the one who let you go.” Andrew quipped back defensively. “You’re coming with me.”
You felt the white hot anger pulsate through you, and before you knew it, your leg had shot out, hitting him right in the shin. Andrew yelped, instinctively letting your arm go as the pain shot through him and he bent over.
“What do you think I am? A toy?” You growled, marching back towards Adam. “You need me to teach you this? Fine. The only reason Adam let go was because he realized it was hurting me. You were hurting me. You were about to tear me into half Andrew. But you don’t care, do you? You’ve been like that since we were five.”
Andrew opened his mouth to argue but no words came out.
“Adam’s not the problem here. You are. You don’t care if I’m happy, or if I’m uncomfortable. You just want what you want.” You snapped.
Adam glanced at you, taking your hand once again with a small smile. "Thank god.” He whispered.
You smiled, watching as the insecurity dropped off his face now that Adam knew you wouldn't misunderstand the gesture.
“I know you.” You whispered back.
You turned back towards Andrew now. “Try this again Andrew. I’ll get a restraining order so fast, you won’t know what hit you.”
Finally, there was defeat in Andrew’s eyes as he stepped aside.
Adam glanced down at you where you were squashed into his side as the both of you walked back down the street.
You looked up as well, meeting his eyes and Adam pressed a kiss to your temple, both of you knowing that no words needed to be exchanged.
You knew.

Departure
Tumblr media
Pairing: jay halstead x reader
Summary: Jay is y/n husband and he left her for eight months to go to Bolivia. When he came back, he couldn’t believe his eyes when he saw his wife again
Warning: none i guess, maybe a little bit of angst
English is not my first language, sorry if there’s some mistakes!
~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•
When your husband came home that day asking you to sit down on the couch, you didn’t think that he was going to say what he actually said. You two worked at Intelligence for four years and you didn’t think possible for him to change the way he did. When you first met him you immediately knew that he was kind, gentle and a good cop: you knew that he would have done everything to help innocents and to stop criminals, you knew that he was a good person.
And then something changed.
You didn’t know if that was because of his partner, Hailey Upton, or because of Voight; you just knew that you didn’t recognize him anymore. You even talked about it with Adam, your partner, but you weren’t able to find a way to help him get through that.
You just wanted him to be happy again, you just wanted him to be himself again.
That’s why you let him go.
When he told you that he accepted the job in Bolivia you couldn’t believe it, you just couldn’t.
Was he running away from the unit or was he running away from you?
You didn’t know what was true, but you couldn’t just deny him to be happy again: if he needed to go, you would have let him go.
And that’s exactly what you did.
“It will be for eight months maybe a little longer, okay? I will be back home soon.” He said that day, kissing your forehead with glossy eyes. “I love you… i really do but i need to do this. Please don’t be angry with me, i’ll come back to you, i promise. You’re the love of my life, y/n.”
When he left some minutes later to take his flight, you fell on the ground, crying; you needed him near you, you needed him there with you but you just couldn’t deny him to be himself again.
That’s why you didn’t tell him the truth.
That’s why you hid it from him.
When Kim knocked at your door that night after having heard about Jay, you let her in and you just walked back to the couch, where you cried all day.
“Y/n…” she whispered, walking towards you and hugging you tightly. “It’s okay. It’s temporary, right? He will come back, okay?”
You didn’t say anything, you didn’t nod or shook your head in response, you just kept crying again and again and then, after some minutes, you spoke.
“We perfectly know that he can die there.” You said, finally telling the truth, finally admitting out loud what you had in your mind all day since he talked to you.
“Oh, y/n…” she kept hugging you and she also placed her hand on your shoulder, trying to reassure you in some way. She wanted to say something, she wanted to help you go through all of that but her eyes fell on it.
It was on the table in front of the couch, exactly where you placed it after Jay left.
“What’s that?” She asked, keeping her eyes on the small object; she reached it and she looked at the result when you didn’t complain about it, then she looked up at you, shocked. “You’re pregnant?”
You wanted to cry, you wanted to scream, you wanted be alone in your thoughts, but Kim was there trying to help you and you really appreciated that, that’s why you just nodded, answering her.
“Does Jay know about it? Did He really leave you here alone knowing that you’re pregnant?”
Kim knew the answer deep down, she knew that Jay wouldn’t have left you there knowing that you were pregnant but she needed to know it for sure; when you shook your head saying “no”, she hugged you tighter.
“Oh, darling.” She whispered, caressing your back slowly and gently. “You should’ve told him, Y/n, i’m sure he wouldn’t have left knowing that.”
You sobbed, then you looked up at her and you shook your head again.
“T-That’s why i-i d-din’t tell him. He needed t-to go Kim, i c-couldn’t stop him.”
“But he had the rights to know the truth before taking such a decision!” She replied, shaking her head in disagreement.
“When he came here telling me about the job in Bolivia he already took it, he accepted it without even talking about it with me. I would have told him if he hadn’t already accepted it. He told me that he had a flight in few hours, how could i have told him? I know, after all, that he’s lost. He’s not himself anymore and, if taking that job is going to help him, then i will accept it. He said, after all, that’s only for eight months.” You said, even if he said that there was the possibility that he needed to stay a little longer. “When he will be back home, i will still be pregnant and he will be able to be here when our baby is born.”
Kim didn’t agree with you but you was still shocked, that’s why she didn’t say anything: she just hugged you, promising you that she would have help you.
And she did, as all your unit.
Kim, Adam, Hailey, Kevin, Hank and also Trudy helped how they could.
In the next months they helped you, they came to your house to keep you company and they accompanied you to the hospital every time you needed to do a visit.
You were never alone after all, but you knew, however, that the most important person for you wasn’t there. You couldn’t blame him since you didn’t tell him the truth, but still you missed him so much.
Your baby was healthy but he, or she, wasn’t ready to be born yet, even if one week passed since the due date.
In some ways you were relieved because you really wanted Jay to be there when you would’ve become a mother. Every single time someone knocked at your door or every single time your phone rang, you panicked, afraid that something happened to your husband while he was still in Bolivia. You didn’t talked to him in the last few months, mostly because you didn’t want to distract him during a mission and because you were always afraid of blowing his cover.
That’s why you hardly talked to him or contacted him on the phone, and he did the same thing for the same reasons.
Until you didn’t hear anything about him from the army, you knew that he was okay, you knew that he was still alive. And every day you kept going on, holding on this thought, holding on the fact that no one called you, so he had to be safe, he had to be alive.
You didn’t know when he would’ve returned home, but you just hoped that it was soon; you couldn’t get through labor without him by your side.
That day you was ready to go to the hospital for another visit with your gynecologist. You asked Adam to come with you and he immediately accepted; that’s why, when you heard someone knocking at your door, you thought it was him.
“C-Coming.” You said, trying to get up from the couch where you were waiting for him. Your belly was so big that it was difficult for you to get up easily. “Just give me one minute, i’m trying to get up from the couch.”
At the other side of the door there was not at all Adam, there was Jay with his bag on the shoulder, happy to be home again, happy to be able to see his wife again. But when he heard you saying that she was having difficulties getting up from the couch, he froze, thinking that you might have been hurt at work.
Before he could say anything, the door opened in front of him and he immediately looked at his wife; he was left speechless, standing in front of the door frame, looking at his wife that was definitely pregnant.
“J-Jay?” You whispered, shocked. You didn’t expect him to be there, you thought that he would have informed you before coming home, but he was there, in front of you in all his beauty. Being so far from him for almost nine months was hard for you: you went through hell alone, especially when you almost lost your baby, and having him in front of you was like a dream. You definitely thought that you were still dreaming.
“You’re pregnant.” He said, unable to look away from your belly. He let go the bag that he had on his shoulder, letting it fall to the ground. He couldn’t believe his eyes, he just couldn’t believe it. “Am i the father?”
That was the first thing that popped into his mind when he saw you and he immediately regretted saying that out loud when he saw your face.
“What do you mean? Are you really thinking that i slept with someone else just right after your departure? You’re my fucking husband, of course you’re the father.”
You were so angry.
You didn’t even realize it till that moment.
You were so angry because he left you alone with a baby in your belly, even if he didn’t know it, even if it wasn’t his fault since you decided not to tell him the truth. But you were definitely angry: he stayed away for so long and the first thing that he asked you is if you got pregnant with someone else?
“Why didn’t you tell me? I would have come back!” He said after few moments, still standing in front of the door, still shocked by the news.
“You took the job before asking me what i thought about it, what did i have to do? You didn’t even took one day to talked with me! You came here, saying that you were going to Bolivia and that you had a flight that same day!“
Jay knew that coming back home wouldn’t have been easy, he knew that you would’ve been upset and you had all the rights to be angry with him, but he definitely didn’t expect to come home and find you pregnant.
“Wait, did you know you were pregnant when i left?!”
You froze, then you stepped back and you invited him to enter the apartment, to talk about it privately.
Jay immediately came in, leaving the bag on the ground, completely focused on his wife. You closed the door behind you two and you leaned against the kitchen counter, sighing.
Jay, even if he was mad at you, immediately walked towards you and helped you; then he took a chair and he invited you to sit down, placing an hand on your shoulder and caressing you gently. You appreciated it but you perfectly knew that you two have still to talk about it.
“Yes.” You answered after that, placing an hand on your own belly, caressing it gently and feeling the baby kicking you hard. “I discovered it the same morning you accepted the job. I wanted to tell you when you came home but you talked first and I couldn’t tell you after that.”
Jay couldn’t believe his ears, he couldn’t believe that his wife hid something important like a baby from him for almost nine months. You should have told him, you should have told him the truth because he wouldn’t have left knowing that you were pregnant with his baby.
“You should have told me, Y/n!” He wasn’t able to control himself, he just yelled at you and, after that, he regretted it. You slightly jumped on the chair, with tears running down your cheeks. You knew that, you knew that he had all the rights to be angry with you but you weren’t prepared for this. You just wanted him to be home because you needed him but you never thought about how he would’ve reacted at the news. You had time to prepare yourself to become a mother and then he came home and discovered that he’s going to become a father in what, few days?
“I’m sorry.” He immediately told you, kneeling in front of you and placing his hands on your arms. “I’m sorry i yelled, it’s just that…. I wanted to know, I wanted to be here with you.”
You sobbed and cried, especially when his hands touched you after all that time. You missed him so much.
“I know.” You sobbed, looking at him. “I’m sorry, i wanted to tell you but I know that you wouldn’t left and… you said you needed it, I couldn’t stop you from that. I just wanted you to be happy again, I couldn’t see you so sad here. And… when you came here saying that you accept the job in Bolivia… i just couldn’t take it away from you. You were right saying that i had to let you go, i saw it in your eyes.”
Jay caressed your arms slowly and gently, then he leaned closer and he kissed your forehead.
“I’m sorry i left you alone.” He said, softly. And it was true. All the time, when he was in Bolivia for his new job, he thought about you and he felt guilty because he knew that you were alone, he knew that you would probably have been hurt. That’s why he asked Kim, Adam, Kevin and Hailey to be near you in case you needed them.
“Well, i wasn’t alone, was i?” You smiled softly through your tears; you took his hands and placed them on your belly the moment you felt your baby kicking. “He, or she, was with me all the time.”
Jay felt the kick against his palms and his eyes immediately filled with tears.
“Say hi to your daddy.” You whispered, apparently talking to your baby while looking at Jay in the eyes.
Jay wanted to say something, wanted to kiss your belly and whispered something to it like he was talking to your baby, but before he could say something, you moaned in pain.
“What’s wrong?” He immediately asked, concerned. “Is everything okay, babe?”
You looked down at yourself when you felt your legs wet.
“Oh no.” You whispered.
Jay looked at you, confused. “What’s happening?”
You looked at him and moaned in pain.
“ i think I’m in labor.”
“Fuck.” He said, placing an hand on his mouth after that. “I’m sorry, i swore in front of the baby!”
You giggled and shook your head but you were interrupted by the first contraction; you moaned in pain and you looked up at him.
“Hospital.” You whispered and he nodded.
“Hospital.” He agreed. “Holy shit, I’m going to be a father.”
“Jay.” You said while he took the car keys and the labor bag you prepared some weeks ago; he came back to you and he helped you get to your feet.
“I’m sorry!” He said, referring to his previous words.

PART ONE
HOUR 2 OF 24
“Wait, guys. I’m getting a call, and it’s from Y/n’s number!” Kim immediately stood up, raising her phone in the air to show everyone the contact name flashing on her phone. Jay was soon by her side, desperate to hear Y/n’s voice once again.
“Answer it then!” Adam insisted, grabbing the phone out of the woman’s hand and answering it, to release the growing anxiety from his body from the phone continuing to buzz. Placing it on the desk, the unit gathered around as the call was put on speaker.
“Y-Y/n?” Kim called out, the fear clear in her voice which made her cringe at the sound of. There was rustling on the end of the line, and everyone waited anxiously for something to happen. “Y/n are you there?”
“Wait you want me to read that? Fucking hell which one of you idiots wrote this? I can barely make out what it says, it’s like a child wrote it.” Y/n’s giggles were caught by the microphone of the phone, and everyone seemed to relax at the sound. She still sounded as teasing as every, that was for sure. Jay felt the tightness in his chest release a little, feeling better knowing that she was indeed still alive. Adam’s previous comment about them shooting her had of course been an attempt at humour, but it seemed to strike up something in Jay that he hadn’t been able to disarm for the last 60 mins.
Noticing the Jay’s rigid posture, Kevin placed a hand on his shoulder, offering a comforting smile when he turned to look who it was. Jay nodded his head in appreciation, before turning back to the phone, wishing he could just be standing in front of Y/n instead of staring at a phone screen. Having not had her close in so long, his skin had began to sting as if in withdrawals. It was so painful, and Jay just wished they had a lead.
There was some bustling and commotion on the other end of the line, which mostly sounded like Y/n squabbling about the note that they must have wanted her to relay. In a way it was a blessing as it gave Mouse enough time to set up his computers and devices to start tracing the call.
“I’m just gonna wing it,” Y/n mumbled, clearing her throat in preparation. “Kimmy, you there?”
“Yes!” Kim jumped a little too quickly, instantly regretting it as everyone looked up at her. For an experienced member of the unit, it was very rare to see her act so clumsily. “Y-Yeah, I’m here.”
“Hey girl! Long time no speak, how you doing?” Kim frowned, eyes flicking over to Jay whose eyes were rolling at the laid back conversation his girlfriend was trying to start, despite most likely having a gun or three pointed at her head. Oh how she was going to get the scolding of her life, and then be held close to him at all times for he never wanted to be away from her ever again.
“Uh, not great?” Kim hesitated. Y/n awed down the line, snapping at one of the abductors that clearly was not pleased with her side tracking.
“Okay basically these fellas want you guys to know that tomorrow at 10am, you have to deliver the money to the lake at St James’ park. You know the one I bet Adam to jump in that time when we were drunk? Anyways, one of the guys will be there to collect the money and once they’ve confirmed the amount they’ll let me go. But, you know, of course if you don’t or you play games or whatever then I'll die, blah blah blah.” Y/n yawned, as she trailed off at the end not interested in what she was saying. “Did I miss anything, boys?”
“Y/n-.” Jay went to speak up but before he could finish saying her name, the phone was hung up and the room was left in a painful silence. The frustration rose in Jay as he let out a painful groan that rumbled through his body viciously, walking away from the group and out of the unit. He didn’t want to be around anyone in that moment.
--
HOUR 5 OF 24
“So...” Y/n hummed pouting her lips out as she looking up at the ceiling, admiring the spots where water had damaged the plastering. “How long of you guys been, you know, kidnapping?” Sitting up straight once again, she looked around to see no one in the chatty mood. Only two of the three men were currently in the room, the grumpy older leader guy having left to take a call an hour ago.
There was a long painful silence as neither men planned on answering yet another dumb question shot their way. Both couldn’t comprehend how someone so... Y/n-like could ever be a detective or a police official in general. The urge to shoot her every time she opened her mouth couldn’t be something only they suffered with, they were sure of that.
“I mean he's only young, you look like my little brother,” Y/n gestured to the scrawny young faced man that was unloading and reloading his gun over and over again. “He’s a little shit as well.” She grumbled.
--
HOUR 11 OF 24
“Have you lads ever thought of maybe sprousing this place up a little,” Y/n asked as she leant back in the wooden chair that she’d been bound to for nearly five days now. Her eyes zipped around the dark, cold cellar - or what she assumed was a cellar - that had become her temporary residence. “You know, maybe a ‘Live, Laugh, Love’ sign and some fairy lights would distract your guests from the pissy stench in here.” Looking around, Y/n could see how each syllable out her mouth grated on the souls of the three men that were slumped around the room, their guns still very much pointed in her direction, none of them able to predict her next move.
“Please remind me why we can’t just shoot her?” One of the abductor looked towards the leader with a look of desperation that had come with listening to Y/n’s stories. She’d spared zero details when telling them about quite possibly every person she’d ever come into contact with. It seemed the more she talked the more they got annoyed, and that’s when they started making mistakes. Mistakes that Y/n knew could help her in the long run.
“Because if we kill her, they won’t pay us the money. And if they don’t pay us the money then we might as well just hand ourselves in.” The man grumbled, leaning back to rest his head against the grey wall with a defeated sigh.
“Holy shit,” Y/n suddenly sat up, catching all the men off guard as they took the safety off their weapons and pointed them aimed directly at her head. Y/n’s eyes were wide but not with fear of the imminent death she faced, but something - in her opinion - far more harrowing. “What time is it? What time is it?” Looking around frantically, this was the most panic any of the men had seen the woman in. The bald man looked down at the watch he was wearing.
“Uh, 9:26pm.” He recited.
“Fuck sake,” Y/n grumbled, kicking her legs against those of the metal chair in frustration, as her bottom lip poked out. “I hope you fellas are happy. I am missing The Kardashians for this shit.” All the men frowned, anger running through their veins upon realising they had been played once again. The leader of the pack of criminals kicked the wall behind him before storming off out of the cellar clearly needing a breather from the mind game Y/n had them trapped in. Whistling upon watching his reaction, Y/n turned to look at the two remaining men. “He’s such a Kourtney, right? I knew it as soon as I met him.”
The men rolled their eyes slumping back into their earlier positions, wishing to drown out the sound of Y/n’s voice, which after nearly a week with minimal liquids and constant chatter was hoarse and painful to listen to in moderation.
“Baldy has to be a Kim, there is no denying that great ass,” Winking in the man’s direction, the comparison was not appreciated but was not punished either. “And then obviously babyface is Kylie. Discuss amongst yourself of course, but I know I’m right.”
“We really should have brought some fucking duck tape to shut this bitch up.” The bald man growled.
“I never had you down as the kinky type.” Y/n hummed.
--
HOUR 19 OF 24
“Is that your boyfriend?” Y/n was starting to doze off when the baby faced abductor held up her phone and pointed towards the picture that decorated her background.
She couldn’t help but smile seeing Jay’s face, even if it wasn’t in the flesh. It had been taken maybe a month ago when they were both drunk, Y/n’s hand had been squishing Jay’s cheeks together which looked incredibly adorable enough for Y/n to take about 300 photos of him until she found her favourite. Ever since it had been the first thing she’d see when picking up her phone, knowing it could make her feel 10 times better.
“The one and only.” Y/n confirmed with a slight nod of her head, feeling the exhaustion roll off her body at the mention of the handsome man that she imagined was equally pissed off at her as he was worried. She could picture the look on his face during the ransom video and the phone call, listening to her enjoying her time despite her life being at risk. But angry Jay was definitely in her top 5 favourite moods of her boyfriend. It sounded a little strange, but it was the truth.
“You are right he is hot,” The man hummed, admiring the picture before showing it to his bald counterpart that nodded in agreement. But his face was still cold, as he went back to counting his bullets. “How did you guys get together?”
“Seriously?” The other man asked, looking up to the younger man with an incredulous look. After all the hours they had been begging for the woman to be quiet and this moron was encouraging her to continue? Not to mention there was no need for any of them to know any more about the woman’s life than what she had already given up for free - which was a lot.
“Do we really have anything better to do?” He snapped.
“Don’t pretend like you don’t wanna know too, baldy,” Y/n ignored the protests and began to reminisce. “I joined the unit like... 5 years ago? He was put with me on my first case with the team and you know he was this hot, don’t fuck with me, slightly older type of guy and I... well I don’t have a dad so perfect, you know?” Both men nodded. “So we started hooking up casually, and then like any friends with benefits situation we became overly attached to one another and started hooking up as boyfriend and girlfriend. Romantic, isn’t it?”
The two men looked at one another with wide eyes, but the woman didn’t notice for she was lost in a loving memory. A stable warm smile on her face as she thought about how young they had been and how far they had come.

HOUR 21 OF 24
“Knowing we only have a few hours left being with each other, I have a confession to make,” Y/n yawned, eyes closed as her head lulled back in a position that looked painful but was surprisingly comfortable. She could really go for a nap right now, but she refused to leave herself vulnerable. “I don’t really want to go back. I’ve got work on Monday and I can’t be fucked-. I really can’t be bothered. My boss is doing my absolute tits in at the moment.” Y/n groaned, thanking the man that held a glass of water to her lips.
“How come?” Babyface asked, taking a seat on a couple of piled up boxes. His hands abandoning the gun besides him and instead focusing on lighting up a cigarette. Offering it towards Y/n, the kidnapped woman declined.
“The man hates love!” She exclaimed, head looking up against and her eyes wide with passion. “He sees me and my boyfriend look at each other and suddenly we are being lectured about keeping it in our pants. It’s like you get caught shagging in the unit a few times and suddenly you are unprofessional. Crazy, right?” She scoffed, looking at her captor who hummed in agreement.
Y/n wasn’t sure how it had got to this, but for the last couple of hours she had formed a friendship of sorts with one of the men - aka Baby face. It was the other two’s mistake to leave the man alone with her, a guy so young with clearly little to no experience at being the abductor in an abduction. Y/n almost felt sorry for him, wanting to give him pointers on how to come off more... intimidating. But instead chose to tell him more anecdotes about her life which the man seemed to eat up now unlike before.
“You know I have this friend that I think you’d love. I mean she is a cop, but I’ve always been a fan of those enemy to lover tropes.” The man tilted his head, seeming slightly confused as to why she would ever want to set one of the people she cared about with a man that had helped in keeping her hostage. “Kim could do with a bad boy, spice up her life a little you know?”
“You are insane.” Baby face chuckled, and Y/n simply grinned.
“You have no idea.”
--
HOUR 24 OF 24
When the boss came stomping back into the room, Y/n nearly fell straight to the floor. Her body jumping up from where she had been semi-napping, along with the two men that had also been sleeping against the wall. The two men shot to their feet, not wanting to let the man that was twirling his gun around like a toy that they had been relaxing.
“It’s time.” He growled, looking at both of his coworkers with a knowing look. Y/n’s head was a little fuzzy from the lack of sleep and slight food deprivation, so much so that she struggled to work out what was going on. “Terry, you should go meet them at the park.”
“T-Terry, huh?” Y/n smirked, looking at the bald man. “You look like a Terry, Terry.” She confirmed, watching as he rolled his eyes and stood up, and walked over to the man, exchanging his large gun for a smaller hand gun.
“And remember when you have the money text the secret code.”
“I know the plan, Dave.” Suddenly Y/n burst out into laughter, so much so the chair beneath her began shaking.
“Your name is Dave? Stop. Stop it, I’m gonna pee.” She insisted, tears in the corner of her eyes which cleared some of the dirk from her face as they fell down her cheeks. The youngest man that was in the corner had to cover his mouth to stop himself from exposing his entertainment at the woman’s attitude.
“Just go.” And just like that Terry left with laughter following him out. As Y/n began to cool down, she suddenly noticed Dave standing over her, a wicked look in his eyes. “For the mean time, I think we could all do a little break from you,” frowning in confusion, suddenly the butt of the man’s gun came down onto the woman’s head knocking her out cold in seconds. “Ah, silence. Why didn’t we do that days ago?”
--
2.5 HOURS SINCE DROP OFF
“Where the fuck is he?” Y/n had been enjoying the inside of her mind, when the sound of Dave’s voice began to send it crumbling back into reality. Wanting to let out a groan as the throbbing in her head became more apparent, she repressed it wondering what the men were saying whilst they thought she was passed out. “It’s 6pm, he should have texted us by now.”
“Maybe he hasn’t got signal?” Baby face offered, his voice wavering showing his internal fear clearly in his tone. But something told Y/n it wasn’t Terry he was worried about.
“Come on, Billy.” The older man scolded. “He hasn’t texted because clearly they’ve got to him.” Paranoia laced his voice so much so it coaxed Y/n’s eyes opened to watch as the man’s face began scrunching up in thought. His feet slapping against the floor as he paced back and fourth. “You know what that means, right? We gotta get rid of her, now.”
Shit, Y/n thought fidgeting in her seat wanting to rip herself free of all the ropes but knowing she had no such strength when she was health and not held for nearly 5 days, let alone in her current condition.
“Let’s not be too hasty-.” Billy tried to reason with him, his eyes flicking to Y/n His shoulders relaxed ever so slightly upon realising that she wasn’t dead like he had previously thought the last three times he’d checked her pulse.
“Hasty? Hasty?” Dave roared, grabbing the young man by the collar of his shirt. “Do you want to go to prison, kid? ‘Cause that’a where we’ll end up if we stay here and wait for them to come and get us. We gotta get rid of the hostage and get our asses on the next plane out of here.”
“C-Can’t we just let her go?” Billy offered, and it was then that Y/n’s concussed brain put together the obvious clues that the kidnapper was worried... about her? Maybe they were friends after all.
“Of course! Why didn’t I think of that?” Dave let Billy go and threw his arms in the air, as the sarcasm flowed out his mouth. “I mean she only knows our names and our faces. Wow, why didn’t I think of just ‘letting her go’?”
“Aww,” Y/n cooed croakily, grabbing both of the men’s attention. Dave seemed alarmed and frustrated having been thrown back into the game he never thought he’d have to play with their hostage. “You two are like a married couple, it’s so cute.”
“That’s it.” Dave grabbed his gun and came marching up to Y/n’s side, taking off the safety he pressed it to Y/n’s temple. His teeth were clamped together, bared towards the woman who simply smirked up at him with a calm look upon her face. The man seemed to be hoping for a bigger reaction as his face reddened in anger. “What the fuck is wrong with you? I’m going to kill you.”
“Bring. It. On.” Y/n squinted, staring the man straight in the face, silently threatening him to go ahead with his plan. She could feel his hand shaking, with the gun pushing deeper into her temple.
“No!” Billy called out, and suddenly the gun Dave carried was turned and shot out towards the young guy. Y/n watched in silent horror as the bullet split through the air and collided with Billy’s leg, sending him hurdling back into a stack of boxes. The man cries were haunting, echoing around the cellar.
The gun soon returned against Y/n’s head, but her eyes didn’t even glance back at Dave. Her eyes were glazed over in numbness as she watched the man she’d grown to like - all things considered - rolling around on the floor.
“Any last words?” Dave whispered into her ear.
“Nah I’m good,” Y/n shrugged, “Fire away, David.”
Not saying anything else, Y/n shut her eyes and prepared for the impact. She focused on the sound of Billy’s shaky breath and whimpers, and just as she thought the blast was coming there was a sudden crash.
“Chicago PD, put your hands up!” Kevin yelled as him, Kim, Adam and a bunch of other officers came running down the stairs and through the metal door. Their large guns pointed towards Dave and the bleeding Billy whose hands were instantly in the air, bloody from where they’d been pressed against his wound.
“Drop the weapon and put your hands up!” Kevin ordered once more as Dave seemed to be conflicted, with his gun slipping against Y/n’s skin. The woman whose eyes were now open and wide, felt all the adrenaline that she’d been surviving off since she had been taken disappear as her rescuers entered the room. “I won’t warn you again, we will shoot.” And suddenly the weapon was being placed on the floor and Dave slowly raised his hands.
“Y/n!” Kim yelled, rounding the men that tackled Dave to the floor and the other officers going to detain and assist with Billy. Kim crouched down in front of the woman who instantly grinned at the sight of her best friend, whose fingers were fiddling with her restraints.
“Kimmy,” She slurred, eyes blinking slowly as she let her body sway woozily. “I knew you’d find me.” As the tightness around her limps subsided, Y/n’s consciousness began to slip away from the ropes.
“Hey, hey stay awake.” Kim lightly tapped her cheeks, trying to avoid the bruises that looked to be beginning to heal. “Someone call Halstead and an ambulance!” Was the last thing Y/n heard as the light disappeared completely.
“Jay...”
--
Jay’s boots squeaked against the hospital flooring as he ran through the entrance of the ER. His head nearly turned 180 degrees as he searched for someone to ask about the location of his girlfriend. Ever since he’d got called out of the interrogation room with one of the abductors to be told that Y/n was found and had been rushed to hospital, his body felt ten times heavier than usual.
“Jay!” Spotting Adam with blood covering his hands, Jay felt his heart stopped beating, as he froze. Every muscle in his body froze, his eyes hyper focused on the red stains. “Hey-,” Adam noticed his wayward eyes and followed their faze to his hands, and instantly shut down his nightmares. “It’s alright, it’s alright this isn’t her blood. Did you hear me? This isn’t Y/n’s blood, it’s one of the abductors.”
Jay’s hands instantly went to his hair, running through the dark strands that were damp from the rain during his run from where he’d parked to the hospital. Taking a deep breath, he was reunited with the beating of his heart as he followed Adam through the halls in the direction of his girlfriend’s room.
“Is she... okay?” The man asked quietly, looking over at his close friend. His eyes lit up with fears, as he wiped away the sweat from his forehead and wiped it on his trousers. Adam hesitated, humming in agreement.
“Okay as she usually is. The doctors recon she’s in shock, but I’ve been telling them that’s just who she is.” Adam snorted, wrapping his arm around Jay’s shoulders in a comforting hug of sorts. Jay let out a small smile at the thought of Y/n chatting like she loved to do, but then remembered how she ended up in the hospital and what he had seen during the ransom video yesterday.
Just as he was about to say something, the two of them heard a chorus of laughter from a room they were approaching. One of the main contributors being a sound that they’d grown to love. Looking towards Adam, the man seemed to be equally confused as it was definitely not the room he’d visited Y/n in earlier. Both men sped up and pushed the slightly closed door open wider.
“... I saw myself in the reflection of that camera and I said ‘If I look that fat, just shoot me already’!” Y/n joked, as she leant back in the wheelchair with bandages wrapped around her head, along with both her wrists and ankles. However instead of being sat at the side of her own bed, instead she was by the side of the shot kidnapper, surrounded by the officers that were suppose to be guarding the room but were instead laughing at Y/n’s anecdote.
“What th- What are you doing in here?” Jay fumed, taking a step forward away from Adam and into the room to expose everyone to his presence. The man that was laying down, cuffed to the hospital bed, jumped in surprise, whilst the officers had a look of guilt on their face. Y/n didn’t seem bothered at all though, throwing her arms up in the air in excitement at the sight of her boyfriend but cursing when feeling the pain shoot around her body.
“Baby!” She cheered, smiling innocently noting the crossed arms and grumpy look on Jay’s face as he had his eyes focused on her. The tension was suffocating, an environment that Y/n didn’t exactly thrive in.
“Wow, you were right,” Billy glanced over to Y/n. “He is even hotter in person.” Jay grumbled incoherently at the comment, eyes narrowing at the man that she was half tempted to shoot in his other leg for being a contributing factor in the injuries his girlfriend was sporting and the separation they’d been forced to experience due to him taking her away from him.
“Baby,” Y/n hummed, putting extra effort into fluttering her eyelashes in hopes of tricking him into not being mad at her. “This is Billy, Billy meet Jay. Billy and I became friends after he stopped pointing his gun at me every time I breathed.” Y/n smiled, patting Billy’s hand. And suddenly Jay couldn’t take it anymore, rounding the bed, his hands gripped the handles of Y/n’s wheelchair.
“If you guys let her a metre within this room again you can say goodbye to your badges.” Jay growled, not sparing Billy another look as he pushed Y/n out of the room despite her protests. Passing Adam, the man didn’t bother following them, figuring they definitely needed ‘couple time’ to talk about... whatever that was.
“Jay.” She whined, her head lulling back to look up at the grumpy face staring straight ahead with that fiery look in any other circumstances he’d find incredibly hot.
“Don’t ‘Jay’ me.” Even though it was very clear she was about to receive the telling off of her life, Y/n was glad that she got to at least be scolded with him there with her. The feeling of him being in her presence was a pain killer no hospital could ever prescribe. Noticing her gushy eyes sparkling up at him, he had to repress his smile and focus on his overwhelming frustration.
Arriving at her room, Jay assisted Y/n back into bed in silence. Placing a blanket over her legs, he pulled a chair up to the side of her bed but didn’t sit, instead moving to stand at the end of her bed with a frown and narrowed eyes. Opening his mouth, Y/n raised her bandaged hand and stopped him.
“I know what you are going to say-.”
“You do, do you?” Jay scoffed, shaking his head as he moved his eyes to look anywhere else afraid he’d crack if he kept admiring her face like he was. Y/n hummed, letting out a small yawn as she cozied down into the comfort of her bed.
“You say ‘I can’t believe how reckless you have been. Do you know what could have happened to you?’” Her eyebrows knitted together like Jay’s already was. “And then normally it’s something along the lines of ‘You can’t keep running your mouth off at people with guns’. Then we have hot angry sex, we both start feeling bad that I've upset you and you’ve shouted at me and then we have phenomenal make up sex. Was I right?” Raising her eyebrow, the couple stared at each other in silence as it became more apparent that she’d hit the nail on the head. “I rest my case.”
Jay stayed silent for moment.
“I can’t believe how reckless you have been!” Jay yelled, throwing his hands in the air, causing Y/n to laugh at the fact she’d been correct. She watched as Jay walked back and forth, hands pulling at his hair. “You could have been killed? You know that, I know you know that. Why would you- Why would you think sassing dangerous men with guns was the right approach?”
“I wasn’t sassing dangerous men with guns,” she shook her head. “I was sassing Dave, Terry and Billy who happened to have guns, they weren’t going to shoot me.” She insisted, making Jay stand there and stare at her in disbelief at how unbothered she was being.
“You had a gun against your head when the team arrived!”
“Dave’s a pussy, he would never have done it.” She snorted, picking at the grapes sat on her table that Kim had brought for her. Jay wanted to shake some sense into the beautiful woman that he would literally die for.
“He literally shot that Billy guy.” Looking at Y/n for some kind of explanation, the woman just chewed her grape with a thoughtful look on her face.
“Hmm, you got me there.” She agreed, wagging her pointer finger of her non-bandaged hand in the direction of her boyfriend. Grabbing the bowl of grapes, she extended it towards Jay. “Grape?”
“I don’t want a grape, Y/n,” Jay spoke quietly, abandoning his place at the end of the bed and collapsing into the bedside chair. His eyes covered by his hands. “I want my girlfriend to understand that she isn’t invincible and that- that I could have lost her today but she doesn’t seem bothered.”
There was no way to hide away form the guilt anymore. Y/n looked over at way and felt her eyes begin to water as she realised that her attempt at keeping everyone feeling light was hurting the one she loved the most. Carefully, Y/n reached out her hand towards Jay who was slightly too far for her to reach. Just as she went to pull back, Jay must have noticed for he grabbed her hand between both of his.
“I'm sorry.” Her bottom lip trembled, as her eyes watered. Jay quite literally watched as for what felt like the first time in the years he’d known the woman, the what ifs of the situation fell onto her like a ton of bricks. “I’m so sorry, Jay.” Standing up from his seat, Jay released her hand and moved to wrap his arms around Y/n in a firm loving hug.
“I didn’t want to upset you,” He insisted. “I just- I love you so much, Y/n. And I love that you are so funny and charismatic,” Pulling back, Jay’s finger ran down the side of Y/n’s face, smiling as he admired her face up close for the first time in a while. He wondered every day for the last 4 and a bit years how he had ever been so lucky as to know, let alone love, a woman like Y/n. “But sometimes you just need to realise that you aren’t untouchable, you know? And- I don’t want to live in a world without you.”
Leaning into Jay’s touch, Y/n nodded placing her hand over where Jay’s rested now on the side of her face. Closing her eyes, she focused on the warmth emitting from his palm onto her skin. Opening her eyes once again, she glanced up at Jay in the eyes before flicking her gaze down to her lips.
“I love you too, baby.” She whispered, before she moved her hand behind his head and lead her head down until their lips were pressed against his. If she was being honest the moment she’d woken up in hospital, she had forced Kim to go and buy her a pack of gum which she chewed all off in preparation for this very moment.
Pulling away, both of them grinned when Jay leaned back and pecked her lips again and again and again. Y/n began to giggle at the feeling of his lips repeatedly tapping her’s, Jay attempting to make up for all the kisses that he had missed during their unplanned time apart.
“Not to ruin the mood, but I’m kind of missing the angry sex part of this scolding.” Y/n mumbled smirking as Jay started to chuckle, still leant in front of his girlfriend, with now both of Y/n’s hands hooked around the back of the man’s neck.
“Well when you get out of here, I’ll pretend to be pissed again and we can finish this the proper way.” The smirk that the man produced was beautiful, Y/n wished she could take a thousand pictures of it. Nodding repeatedly, the woman felt the excitement make her body buzz. “Now you get some sleep, I’ll be right here.” Returning to his seat, Jay pulled his chair even closer, enough to hold her hand from where he was sat.
Closing her eyes, and leaning deeper into her pillow, Y/n welcomed the backlog of sleep she needed to catch up on. Just before she fully submerged into the pool of unconsciousness, she was reminded of something she needed to tell Jay.
“Oh and just so you know,” Y/n muttered, words breathy with tiredness. “I may or may not have promised Billy that he could come stay with us once he’s out of prison.” Jay’s smile dropped, whilst Y/n gripped his hand tighter. “I love you.”

THIS IS PART 2
PART 1  here
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Four hours later, at the factory
‘We still haven’t heard anything from your brother,’ the kidnapper said as he walked towards Y/N. ‘It’s been four hours. Maybe he isn’t interested in finding you. Maybe he’s gonna leave you for dead.’ The man crouched down in front of Y/N so that he was eye-level with her and pulled off the tape that was covering her mouth.
‘He’s coming. I know it. He would never leave me!’ Y/N spat at her kidnapper who looked at her in disgust.
‘Who do you think you are?’ he punched her in the face. Then he punched her again and again and again until the right side of Y/N’s face was fully covered in bruises.
‘Y/N, no!’ sounded the voice of Y/N’s friend who was sat at the other end of the room. The man quickly turned around and saw that the tape that was covering Avery’s mouth, was now loose.
‘How did you manage to do that?’ he asked as he walked towards her, talking about the tape.
‘My dad taught me some self-defence tricks.’ Avery said as she made eye contact with the man.
‘Ah, I see.’ He kept silent for a moment, looking at the girl that was sitting in front of him. He then moved away and grabbed a baseball-bat. ‘Has your dad taught you this?’ he asked as he swung the bat towards Avery, hitting her in the ribs.
The girl shrieked and tried to turn away from the man. ‘Has he?’ the kidnapper asked more fierce this time as he hit her again. Tears started running down her cheeks as she heard something break. It was no doubt that it was one of her bones.
‘Please, stop it!’ Y/N yelled at the other end of the room.
‘Shut the fuck up!’ her kidnapper walked back to her and hit her, breaking some of her bones as well.
An hour later, at the 21st
‘I think we got something!’ everyone hurried themselves around Kevin as he showed them the exact location of the factory that Y/N and Avery were held in. ‘This place is located near the southside. It used to be a factory for making metal but it shut down last year due to a gas leak. They got most of their stuff out of there, but there are still some chemicals, machines etc.’
‘Alright, let’s go then.’ Jay stood up and grabbed his coat, only to be stopped by Voight.
‘Not so fast. When did we ever go without making up a plan?’
‘Right, sorry.’ Jay put his coat down and sat back in his chair. ‘So what’s the plan?’
‘We still have to wait for Hailey and Kim. I don’t know what’s taking them so long.’ Adam said. ‘They’ve been gone for over three hours now.’
‘It’s a million dollars, man, that takes some time.’ Kevin stood up and walked over to the board. He put on some pictures he printed from the location they were holding Jay’s sister and her friend. He started writing some things down like the route, the people that were coming with, Jay’s task and more.
Jay didn’t pay attention, however. He just kept watching the video, even though they finally had the location. His mind kept wandering towards Y/N. How bad was she hurt? Was she still alive? Could he even do this? He had dome some undercover work before and knew how to keep his cool, but today? Today was different. His sister’s life was at stake. If Y/N died, he would never forgive himself. If it was up to him, he would go over to her right now, but he knew that was just like walking into his own death. He had to be smart, tough and, most importantly her brother.
‘Hey man,’ Adam rolled his chair over next to Jay’s. Jay lifted up his head and looked at him. Ruzek could see a sadness in his co-worker’s eyes that he couldn’t describe. He knew that he was worried and that he was sad and angry, but his eyes showed so much more than that. Maybe even guilt. ‘She’s gonna be okay, you hear me? We’ve got three hours left and as soon as Kim and Hailey get back, we can make a plan and head out okay? We can safe Y/N and her friend.’
Jay nodded. ‘I know that but..’ he fell silent for a couple of seconds, trying to keep his voice steady and his tears that were blurring his vision from falling. ‘I just can’t stop thinking about that this is all my fault. If I never became a police officer than I would have never made such enemies and she would have never been kidnapped and..’
Adam put a hand on his shoulder. ‘Don’t blame yourself for this. You know that this is not your fault. She could have been kidnapped by anyone.’
‘Yeah, but that person might not have wanted a million dollars from me because I arrested him.’ Jay sighed and looked at Ruzek. ‘What if Kim and Hailey aren’t back in time? Y/N and Avery could be dead by now.’
‘You know that won’t happen, Jay.’ Adam squeezed his shoulder and rolled his chair away. ‘I’ll give them a call.’
Another hour later, at the factory
Jay, what’s taking you so long? Y/N thought as she looked at the vomit that was spread across her legs and the ground. Her vomit. She had been hit in the stomach for so long, that everything that she ate that day came out without her being able to stop it.  The smell of it made her feel even more nauseous, so she tried to breathe through her mouth. Not that it helped a lot. With every breath she took, she felt her broken ribs pinch into her lungs. She could only take short breaths which were also very painful. Y/N had lost track of time by now. She knew she had been here for almost a day because it was getting dark outside. The kidnapper had lit up a small lamp and put it on the floor in between her and Avery.
Poor Avery. She was hit on the head with the baseball bat. The girl hasn’t gained consciousness ever since. Y/N was scared that she might have died due to the blood loss, but she could sometimes see her move her legs or her head, like she did now.
‘Avery.’ Y/N whispered to her friend. She was scared and cold and she was in so much pain. She just wanted somebody to talk to.
When Avery didn’t move, Y/N whispered again, but she stayed unconscious. The anxious girl kept staring at her friend, hoping that she would wake up soon. Minutes of silence have passed when a loud, deep voice sounded from behind her, startling her.
‘It’s been six hours now. You don’t think they’re gonna come now are you?’ the kidnapper, whose name Y/N still didn’t know, walked up from behind her.
‘He will. Jay always does.’ The girl’s voice was rasp and it hurt talking. When was the last time she had some water?
‘I don’t think he does, sweetheart.’ The man took a hold of the camera again and started recording. ‘It’s been six hours, Halstead, and you’re still not here. I didn’t expect this from you. I thought taking your sister was enough to persuade you, but I guess not.’ He turned the camera towards Y/N and filmed her up close. ‘Do you see this, Jay? I can’t imagine what type of pain she must be in right now.’ He got close to Y/N’s face, who quickly turned away from him. This got him an even better angle of her bruises, which started to turn purple, and the dried blood on her skin.
‘Don’t be shy now, Y/N.’ the man grabbed her chin and forced her to look at him. Y/N wanted to say something. She wanted to shout, to beg him to let her go, but she couldn’t. Her throat was dry and she was in too much pain to speak. The man turned the camera towards himself and started talking again. ‘I guess I have to help you make up your mind a little. Maybe you can safe at least one of them.’
Y/N’s eyes widened when she saw that he pulled out a gun and aimed it towards her. ‘No, no, no! Please!’ she yelled as hard as she could. ‘Please don’t kill me! Jay, help me, please!’ her voice was rasp and barely audible. It hurt her to breathe, let alone talk.
The kidnapper laughed at Y/N’s desperation. ‘I’ll give him one last chance.’ He said and slowly made his way over towards Avery, making sure the camera was pointed in a certain angle that it recorded both Y/N and himself.
‘Don’t kill her!’ Y/N tried shouting. He couldn’t kill her friend. She would never forgive herself for dragging her into this. Avery was innocent!
The man stopped in front of Avery and recorded Y/N over his shoulder, who was desperately trying to get loose. ‘Please, spare yourself the energy,’ the girls’ capturer turned the camera and aimed it at Avery, who was still unconscious. He slapped her across the face twice, before getting a reaction out of her.
Avery slowly opened her eyes, groaning softly as she felt a stabbing pain in her chest as she tried to inhale. She gasped for air when she was grabbed by the throat and her eyes met those of her capturer. It took her a while to process what was happening but then she noticed from the corner of her eyes that there was camera pointed at her. She opened her mouth to say something when she felt the cold touch of a gun on her head. Avery quickly closed her mouth and squeezed her eyes shut, a few tears escaping from under her closed eyelids. ‘Please, don’t.’ she whispered.
‘I hope that this will be the only life that’s going to waste tonight, Halstead. It’s up to you.’ The man grinned at the camera mischievously before asking the girl if she had any last words.
‘You’re going to pay for this, you son of a bitch.’ Avery’s shaky words had barely left her mouth before the man pulled the trigger. A loud bang was heard and the girl was sent backwards, falling on the ground with a soft thud. The kidnapper recorded the blood splashed on the wall behind Avery and then zoomed in on her head with blood pooling around it. In the back of the recording sounded the anxious and desperate screams of Y/N, who was in remorse of her friend’s death.
Thirty minutes later, the 21st
‘So I will walk in there, with the bag of money and you will be waiting outside?’ Jay asked as they went through the plan one last time. Kim and Hailey got back an hour ago with a bag of fake money. It took them a while because one million wasn’t easy to get, not even when it was fake. Everyone from intelligence sat together, trying to make a plan. The goal was to get both Y/N and Avery out safely and for Jay to not get killed.
‘We will be right around the corner, so don’t worry.’ Burgess said as she tightened her bulletproof vest.
Jay nodded as he fiddled with his hands. He wasn’t usually the type to get nervous easily, but he found himself shaking the whole day. He wanted to stop it, because it made himself even more nervous, but he couldn’t. Hailey walked up to him and gave him a hug which he gladly returned.
‘Don’t worry, Jay. We’re going to safe her now. She won’t have to be there for long anymore.’ Jay found himself speechless and nodded once again. ‘You called Will, right?’ Y/N’s brother took a deep breath to make sure that his voice was steady when he spoke.
‘Yeah, I did. He’s on his way.’
‘Guys!’ Sergeant Platt rushed in once again. ‘I just received another tape! You might want to take a look at this before heading out.’
‘Give me that.’ Jay basically ripped the thing out of Platt’s hand and rushed upstairs and put the disk in his computer. Trudy didn’t mention it and was the first to follow the detective upstairs, followed by the rest of intelligence.
The video was already playing when everyone finally got upstairs. Voight felt his heart rate go up when he heard the sound of a gunshot coming out of the speakers. Were they too late? He guessed everyone else thought the same because they all stopped dead in their tracks. They couldn’t read anything off of Jay’s facial expression as it was blank. He just stared at the computer screen like he was made out of stone.
‘What happened?’ Voight asked after a couple of seconds. Jay didn’t respond and he took a step closer. ‘Halstead!’
The detective got out of his trance and looked at the others, who were standing further behind, first. They all looked at him in anticipation of what he was going to say, but he kept quiet.
‘Jay,’ Voight said softer then he did before. He knew something was wrong and he was fearing the worst. ‘What did you see?’ He could see the man in front of him swallow hard before he finally looked up to him.
‘He..’ he took a deep breath. ‘He shot Y/N’s friend. He said that if I don’t get there soon, she’s next.’
Some cussing could be heard from behind the two men, however, nobody dared to move before Voight told them to. Were they still going with the original plan?
‘Alright, let’s move!’ was all they needed to hear. All of intelligence practically ran downstairs, followed by Jay and Voight. When they came down, they met Will, who had just arrived. On his face was a worried look, similar to Jay’s.
‘Where is she? Is she okay?’ was the first thing he asked to no-one in particular. Jay grabbed his arm and pulled him into the back of a car.
‘No questions, just come with me.’ Was all he said. Adam quickly got into the drivers’ seat and Voight rode shotgun and within two seconds, they took off.
The car ride was silent, the tense atmosphere felt thick between the four men and they were all sitting on the edge of their seat. When they were close, Jay grabbed a gun and put it behind his pants. He wasn’t wearing a vest and for the first time he wishes he had one. What if he was too late? What if the killer tried to kill Jay too?
‘Alright, Will. Everyone will be listening through my microphone. We got one other car and an ambo. You wait with Ruzek and Voight and you only get out of the car when I say so, okay?’ Jay’s voice was firm and clear, as if he was talking to a nine-year old. Will simply nodded and said a ‘be careful’ before Jay got out of the car.
Inside the factory
The smell of gasoline stung in Y/N’s nose. She was laying on the ground, covered in gasoline and her own vomit. At this point she knew Jay wasn’t coming anymore. The kidnapper said that he had ten minutes left. If Jay had had eight hours to come and get you, there was no way he would come in the next ten minutes.
‘I don’t think he is coming to safe you anymore.’ The man said to the girl laying in front of him. She was still tied to the chair and she couldn’t feel her limbs anymore. Her sight was so fuzzy that she could barely see a shape in the form of a man in front of her. She couldn’t see the lifeless body of her friend anymore. Not that she wanted to see it, but over the past hours she kept looking at it to check if it was real. She just couldn’t believe he shot her without hesitation. Y/N had lost all of her hope. She was going to die here tonight. With every breath she took, she felt that it was one closer to her last. She wanted to die. She had suffered enough today and she wanted it to end.
The murderer clicked his tongue. ‘Such a waste. You were both very pretty girls.’ He sighed and crouched down in front of her. ‘But business is business am I right?’ A wide grin spread across his face as he lit the lighter. ‘Goodnight, bitch.’
‘Don’t move!’ sounded another voice from behind him. His smile only grew bigger as he slowly got up and turned around.
‘Well, well, well. Look who finally decided to show up. It took you long enough, Jay Halstead. If you got here sooner, that poor young lady didn’t have to die.’ The voice of the man had something psychotic in it. It put Jay’s neck hair on end.
‘I’m here now. So let my sister go.’ Jay’s voice sounded steady. He wasn’t as nervous as he was before. He was with Y/N now. She was still alive. It didn’t keep the adrenaline from running through his veins though.
The man took a few steps towards Jay, who kept his ground. The men made eye contact and the kidnapper found himself taken aback by the detective’s determined look. He knew that he was there to safe his sister and he wouldn’t leave without her.
Jay slowly put the bag on the ground and opened it, revealing the money inside. The killer smiled and motioned for Matt to pick it up.
Jay hadn’t noticed the other man before. Damn, he thought, I must not lose focus. He quickly looked around if there was anybody else present, but unfortunately he only saw Avery’s body. Another rush of adrenaline went through his body as he was snapped out of his thoughts by the man, Matt, grabbing the money that was inside the bag.
The detective tried not to be suspicious as Matt examined the money. He held in it the light, smelled it and ran his nails across it. He looked Jay in the eyes for a while, who clenched his hands into fists. He was screwed. They knew it was fake.
‘it’s fake isn’t it?’ asked Matt.
‘I don’t know what you’re talking about.’ Jay tried to remain calm, because he knew that his team were on their way.
‘Don’t lie to me!’ the kidnapped walked up closer to Jay who reached behind his back for his gun. He didn’t get the chance to pull it out because the man in front of him had already shot him in his left leg.
Jay groaned as a jolt of pain went through his leg and he ducked away behind some crates. He quickly took a hold of his gun and steadied himself on his right leg, peering over the crates only to see that the kidnapper had a hold of Y/N and was trying to pull her away from the scene.
‘I don’t think so.’ Jay muttered as he raised his gun and shot at the kidnapper, who took one bullet to the chest. The man tried to shoot back and Matt tried to cover for him, only to be stopped by the intelligence unit who barged in.
‘Chicago PD!’ sounded the voice of Kevin who ran in with his gun pointed at the two men. Like they always do, the men tried to run, but Adam and Kim were much faster. They tackled them and they earned a few good punches before they were cuffed.
‘This is squad 2113, shots have been fired by the police, we need an extra ambulance.’ Kim said through her radio after she cuffed one of the men.
Jay ignored the help that the paramedics offered him and stumbled towards Y/N, who was being released by Will, who was in full doctor mode, and Hailey who asked two paramedics for help.
‘Y/N,’ Will said as Y/N pulled her arms in front of her and rubbed her wrists that were covered in red marks from all the pulling she did. Her sight was still fuzzy, but she could make out the voice from one of her brothers.
‘Will..’ she said softly, ‘am I..dead?’
Her brother shushed her as he put a hand under her head and kissed it softly. ‘It’s over now. It’s okay, we’re here. You’re safe’. The only thing Y/N could do was nod and she felt her eyes grow heavy, glad that this was all over with.
‘Jay.. Is he?’ she started, but she was quickly interrupted when he knelt down beside her and Will.
‘I’m here.’ He said softly. ‘I’m so sorry you had to go through all of this.’ His eyes started to fill with tears and he didn’t know if it was from the bullet in his leg, which he tried to stop from bleeding, or if it was because he found his sister, and she was still alive.
‘Jay,’ Will started as he looked at his brother’s leg.
‘I’m fine.’ Was all he said and he grabbed Y/N’s hand softly. Her hand felt so fragile in his. She looked fragile too. It made him feel like he never wanted to let her go ever again.
Y/N tried to open her eyes and she was glad that she could make out the shape of both of her brothers. She was safe. Finally. She could go to sleep now.
‘Avery..’ she mumbled before she closed her eyes and everything went black.
‘Get her to the hospital, now!’ Will yelled as two paramedics ran over to where they were sitting. They pulled Y/N on top of the cart and into the ambulance. ‘I also need one for Jay!’
‘Will, I’m fine.’ Jay said as he stood up again. He just wanted to be with his sister, his leg didn’t need immediate attention. A wave of pain went through his leg and he gritted his teeth. He couldn’t go to the hospital right now. He needed to take care of Avery, too. It was his fault that she was dead in the first place.
‘No, you’re not. Please, don’t make this any more difficult than it already is, Jay.’ Will put a hand on his brother’s shoulder and, after a huff and another “I’m fine” he got him to walk to the ambulance. In the meantime more detectives showed up and they covered the whole place in red tape and made pictures of the crime scene. They were quick to get Avery out of there and to the mortuary.
~
The bullet could be taken out of Jay’s leg with ease and he didn’t have to stay at the hospital. Y/N however, needed to stay for a couple of days. Jay and Will both took a couple of days off of work to spend some time with their sister, who they were glad was still alive. They had her stay home for two weeks and went out of town for the time being to take their minds, and especially Y/N’s, off of what happened. They went on hikes, for as far as Jay and Y/N could walk with their injuries, made cookies, played a lot of games and watched many movies from their childhood. Y/N helped Avery’s family arrange the funeral and made sure her friend had the best farewell someone could hope for. It was a tough time for them, but they were fortunate they had each other to get through it.

Your eyes in my life - Chapter 8
Tumblr media
Summary - The night of Kim’s final layover as a flight attendant ended with a one night stand with a stranger she met across a bar.
6 years later, that same stranger walked into the 21st District and was assigned as her new Rookie and her life was thrown upside down. She hadn’t seen Adam since that night in LA. But she saw his eyes every day. In the eyes of their daughter.
Chapters - 8/?
Chapter Summary - Adam and Kim head to the hospital to check on the two little girls from the call.
Notes - Well I don’t know about you but I am still very much spiralling after last nights episode. I’ve written a little oneshot for straight after which I plan to post tomorrow but I hope you enjoyed this update. AO3 Link
When they arrived at Med, the charge nurse let them know that Lucy had been taken into surgery and that one of the nurses was currently waiting with Emma in the waiting room upstairs. DCFS had been called as Emma hadn’t been able to provide any additional information about her parents and they were worried anything she did tell them may be inaccurate due to shock. Kim had nodded, she had had a couple of experiences of dealing with victims after traumatic events recalling information that later turned out to be false, all because they were in a place where their brain was unable to separate fact from fiction.
‘Do we need to get back to the district or can we stay with her for a bit?’ Adam asked as he and Kim made their way to the waiting room, hoping that the answer would be the latter.
‘We can stay, pretty sure there wasn’t a crime committed but it’s still our job to make sure they are alright. We’ll stay until they manage to get in touch with their parents. I’ll call Platt and let her know’. Kim stopped just short of the waiting room, pulling out her phone as she did so but gestured for Adam to continue.
As he entered the room, he spotted Emma sitting in a chair in the far corner, head down, her little legs swinging back and forth. A middle aged woman, clearly the representative from DCFS judging from the lanyard around her neck, was attempting to engage her in conversation.
Emma raised her head as Adam approached and a small smile quickly replaced the distressed look on her face. She jumped up and ran over, Adam lowering himself to her level as the little girl threw herself into his arms.
‘Hey hey, what’s up?’ Adam asked worriedly, holding her tightly, glancing back up to the other adult in the room, however she just shook her head. ‘Emma, what’s wrong?’
Emma mumbled something but with how her head was buried in Adam’s neck, he couldn’t understand her.
‘Hey, why don’t we go take a seat with this nice lady and you can tell me what’s the matter?’
Emma pulled back and nodded slowly, wiping the tears that were staining her young face.
Adam stood up once she had completely let go of him, but no sooner had he done so, she reached out and held his hand. He gave it a gentle squeeze, smiling down at her and walking towards the previously occupied chairs.
‘Adam Ruzek,’ he said in introduction to the woman.
‘Sasha Stevens, DCFS’.
‘I’d shake your hand but,’ he nodded down to where Emma was still grasping tightly to his.
‘No problem, she seems to trust you,’ Sasha smiled as Adam took a seat in between her and Emma, sensing that Sasha hadn’t succeeded in making Emma feel particularly comfortable yet.
‘We were first on the scene,’ he said in explanation.
‘I’ve got a couple of calls to make, you okay to stay with her?’ She asked, gesturing to the clipboard that was resting on her lap.
‘Yeah, no problem.’ With Sasha excusing herself, Emma seemed to relax, the vice-like grip she had had on Adam’s hand loosening slightly. ‘Now, you going to tell me what’s up?’ He asked, hoping that she’d be more responsive now it was just the two of them.
‘They wouldn’t let me stay with Lucy,’ she said quietly. ‘They took her away and I don’t know where.’
‘They took her into surgery Emma, nobody apart from the doctors and the sick person can go into the surgery room’, he tried to explain on a level that a child could understand. ‘But I’m sure as soon as they have fixed her up, they’ll come tell us straight away and then you’ll be able to see her.’
‘They’re going to fix her?’ She looked up to Adam, her blue eyes swimming with tears.
‘They have the best doctors at this hospital,’ Adam said, remembering what he had been taught at the academy about not promising things they couldn’t be certain could be delivered on. The paramedics had seemed positive about Lucy’s outcome but Adam didn’t know if anything had happened in the interim between when they got in the ambulance to pulling up at Med. He wasn’t about to promise the little girl that her best friend would be okay if there was even the slightest chance that that wasn’t true.
‘They’re the best?’ She asked curiously.
‘They are. And as soon as they can, I’m sure they’ll come and speak to us.’ This seemed to relax Emma who smiled softly up at him and nodded.
Just then Kim entered, smiling at the pair of them.
‘You remember my friend Kim?’ Adam asked, gesturing over to Kim.
Emma nodded and waved, ‘Hi Kim.’
‘Hi Emma. I just spoke to the doctors and they said that Lucy did really well in surgery and you’ll be able to go see her in a bit’. Kim smiled as a look of excitement washed across Emma’s features.
‘Told you they had the best doctors here,’ Adam said with a grin.
‘Will you come see her with me?’ She asked, looking between Kim and Adam.
‘Of course we will,’ and with a quick glance to Kim, ‘shall we go find some food first?’
The trio returned up to the waiting room having managed to source some sandwiches and chips from the hospital cafeteria. Adam wasn’t sure when the last time the two little girls had eaten so he had picked up another sandwich for Lucy if she was feeling up for it.
He had clearly made the right call as Emma devoured her sandwich in a matter of moments, starting on her chips before he had barely made a dent in his BLT.
The doctor that Kim had spoken to walked in whilst the group were occupied with their lunch.
‘Lucy’s awake, if you want to see her now,’ Emma had jumped up excitedly before the doctor had even finished her sentence.
‘Thanks Doc,’ Adam said as he picked up the discarded chip packet that Emma had dislodged when she had jumped to her feet. ‘Come on then,’ he said, smiling down at Emma who reached for his hand again.
As they walked into the room, the little girl in the bed tried to sit up but Kim was by her side in a few short strides.
‘Hey Lucy, let’s stay laying down for a bit, okay? Just until you get your strength back,’ she said worriedly, running her hand over her hair.
‘Lucy,’ Emma said timidly, having previously been so excited to see her friend, that had all been drained as soon as she had seen how pale and frail Lucy looked, dwarfed in her hospital bed.
‘She’s okay,’ Adam said quietly to her, nudging her forward. ‘Go say hi’.
‘Do you still feel bad Lucy?’ Emma asked softly, approaching the bed slowly.
‘I just feel sleepy,’ Lucy said, her voice a little hoarse.
‘You can sleep if you want,’ Kim said kindly. ‘Emma just wanted to check you were okay’.
‘And I wanted to introduce you to my friend Adam,’ Emma said with a smile. ‘He’s a police officer, like Kim. They saved us.’ She announced proudly.
‘Well you did most of the work before we got there,’ Adam said with a chuckle. ‘Maybe you should be a doctor when you’re older’ he suggested with a smile.
Emma seemed to ponder on this for a second. ‘I think I’d rather be a police woman and help people like you did’. Adam blushed at this, smiling sheepishly over at Kim from where she was still standing by the side of the bed.
By the time that Sasha returned, Emma and Lucy were both asleep on the bed. Lucy had started to drift off shortly after they had entered and Emma followed not long afterwards. It had been a very long and exciting day for the 7 year olds.
‘We’ve managed to get in touch with both the girls' parents. They’re on the way here’. Sasha smiled at the sight before her.
‘That’s great news,’ Adam rubbed his hand over his face, attempting to wake himself up slightly too.
‘I’ll wait down at the entrance for them so they don’t have to flag anyone down, see you shortly.’ Kim and Adam bid Sasha goodbye for now as she headed out.
‘That was a pretty intense day,’ Adam huffed as he sat back into the uncomfortable plastic seat that he had taken custody of, Kim getting the slightly less uncomfortable leather chair next to the bed.
‘You did really good today Adam,’ she smiled over at him, the pride in her eyes shining through.
‘Thanks Kim’, and deciding that now was as good a time as any to shoot his shot. ‘When we get off tonight do you want to-’
Kim’s phone rang loudly, interrupting him, echoing off the walls. She excused herself to answer it, Adam spotting a concerned look appear on her face as she clocked who was calling.
A couple of moments later she appeared back in the room, her usual calm and composed demeanour gone, replaced by worry.
‘Ruzek, I’ve got to go. You good to find your way back to the district?’ She asked quickly as she grabbed her belongings from the spare chair.
‘Of course, but is everything okay?’ Adam asked, concerned.
‘Umm, I don’t know,’ she said, running her hand over her hair as she looked around the room, seemingly looking for something. ‘I think this is everything’, she said quietly to herself.
‘Kim, what’s up?’ Adam asked again, reaching out a hand to grab her arm in an attempt to bring her back into the present.
‘I’ve gotta go Adam, I’ll explain later,’ she said, shrugging off his hand.
‘Kim-’
‘It’s my daughter, I have to go’, she said loudly, her eyes meeting his with something Adam couldn’t quite read. ‘I have to go’, she repeated, more apologetically this time as she turned to walk towards the door leaving a bemused Adam behind her.
This was news to Adam. In all the weeks they had been riding together, she had never once mentioned that she had a child. Maybe she just wanted to compartmentalise with work and home. Maybe she just didn’t like talking about her personal life.
Adam had thought they had grown close in the past couple of weeks but maybe he had been mistaken. This was something huge about her life that he didn’t know. And for some reason he felt hurt that she hadn’t told him, that she hadn’t trusted him enough to tell him.

Writer Questions
The Basics
1.     Do you listen to music when you write? Usually. Sometimes I don't but most of the time I do.
2.     Are you a pantser or plotter? A little bit of both lol.
3.     Computer or pen and paper? I use an app on my phone to do a lot of my stuff but there's nothing like handwriting a particularly moving scene.
4.     Have you ever been published, or do you want to be published? Being published would be neat. It's not my ultimate goal.
5.     How much writing do you get done on an average day? About a page. It's fairly sporadic.
6.     Single or multiple POV? Single.
7.     Standalone or series? Series.
8.     Oldest WIP - post-apocalypse digimon story
9.     Current WIP - see above as well as various smaller oneshots lol

The Specifics
11.  Books and/or authors who influenced you the most: Jay Bonansinga
12.  Describe your perfect writing space: outside in autumn
13.  Describe your writing process from idea to polished: for school/work it’s just kinda one and done lol. personal projects just never seem to get fully done.
14.  How do you deal with self-doubts? Self-doubts in writing generally don’t affect me because I don’t really write with the purpose of sharing with other people. I write for myself. Who cares if it’s bad or dumb or not well-written? It’s for me.
15.  How do you deal with writer’s block? Turn to another project.
16.  How many drafts do you need until you’re satisfied with a project? Forever.
17.  What writing habits or rituals do you have? Not sure I really have any. When I first started writing it was only by hand, with a black pen, and in cursive. Over time that grew to be blue pen/cursive, back to black pen/cursive, then in pencil/print, then black pen/print. Now it’s whatever is on hand.
18.  If you could collaborate with anyone, who would it be, and what would you write about? Prb @jumper-zuzu
19.  How do you keep yourself motivated? If one thing isn’t working out try something else. I’m writing a personal world. I control how things go.
20.  How many WIPs and story ideas do you have? Countless.
The Favourites
21.  Who is/are your favourite character(s) to write?: Folks with dangerous backstories, folks that eventually HAVE to ask for help after exhausting all other options.
22.  Who is/are your favourite pairing(s) to write?: Chicago PD fanfic, Adam Ruzek and OC Phoebe Driscoll.
23.  Favourite author: In no particular order - CS Lewis, JRR Tolkien, Philppa Gregory, Stephen King, Edgar Allen Poe, Ted Dekker, Andrew Klavan, Jordan B Peterson
24.  Favourite genre to write and read: action/adventure, sci-fi, fantasy, heroism
25.  Favourite part of writing: the bolt of inspiration that makes an entire scene come together.
26.  Favourite writing program: PureWriter (samsung app)
27.  Favourite line/scene: “You don’t know what I have, but I WILL tell you, despair is definitely not on the list.”
28.  Favourite side character: Calumon (no I refuse to explain)
29.  Favourite villain: Lucemon
30.  Favourite idea you haven’t started on yet: I had a concept where a child in the care of an OC was tragically lost and it spurred OC to a line of anti-heroism.
The Dark
31.  Least favourite part of writing: the spans of time where nothing seems to be happening
32.  Most difficult character to write: romantic interactions (no seriously I’ve never dated so I have no idea how to write romance situations)
33.  Have you ever killed a main character?: Not yet. Side characters and enemies, but not a main yet.
34.  What was the hardest scene you ever had to write?: I’m still trying to figure out a first date situation in a Chicago PD fic.
35.  What scene/story are you least looking forward to writing?: killing an MC.
The Fun
36.  Last sentence you wrote: “You know I’m taking all that as a ‘no’ to my question, right?”

38.  Weirdest story idea you’ve ever had: post-apocalypse digimon
39.  Weirdest character concept you’ve ever had: cousins-turned-sisters, opposite in every single way.
40.  Share some backstory for one of your characters: Phoebe lives with her uncle on a ranch in America. Her sister disappeared in a bad thunderstorm while sophomores in high school and 2 years later Phoebe still battles with the guilt of believing she was to blame for the disappearance. Her uncle, fearful for the blatant social withdrawal of his adopted daughter, signs them up for a foreign exchange program.
The Rest of It
41.  Any advice for new/beginning/young writers?: Do it for you. Above all, do it for yourself.
42.  How do you feel about love triangles?: Useful in certain situations but I find them to be far too used.
43.  What do you do if/when characters don’t follow the outline?: Follow the characters. Better yet let the characters write the outline.
44.  How much research do you do?: A lot. I do whatever I can to make sure I’m writing believable situations that actually work as they should. I don’t like to use a lot of “It’s fiction! It works because I say so!”
45.  How much world building do you do?: a LOT lol. I can go for HOURS.
46.  Do you reread your own stories?: All the time.
47.  Best way to procrastinate: Listen to music and stare at a blank page.
48.  What’s the most self-insert character/scene you’ve ever written?: When I first started writing (6th grade) I LITERALLY REWROTE episode 1 of Digimon Frontier to replace Kouji. Hey, everybody starts somewhere.
49.  Which character would you most want to be friends with, if they were real?: Takuya Kanbara, prb. Dude is just out there and I’m a lot like that. Kouji would have his hands full trying to keep us wrangled.
50.  Any last words?: Writing is an outlet. Writing is limitless. Writing is yours.

ADAM RUZEK MASTERLIST
Tumblr media
You paused just outside Adam’s door, your hand raised to knock.
Of course, your brain hadn’t stopped you earlier when you’d heard that Adam had been sent home because he wasn’t well, since the only thought you had had was that he must really be feeling under the weather, which only worried you. Your brain hadn’t stopped you when you’d got into your car or even when you’d pulled up in front of Adam’s apartment.
And then it decided to start this now?
You were already here so you rapped the door anyway, hearing shuffling footsteps before the door opened.
“You look like shit.” You said, even though you were a little worried by how Adam looked.
Adam stepped back to let you in. “Gee, thanks, Y/N.”
You smiled, raising the bag you were holding. “I come in peace.”
Stepping into Adam’s apartment confidently almost as if it was your own, you moved past him, putting the bag down on the short coffee table in front of the couch and turning back towards Adam who was already sitting on the couch.
Without saying a word, you inched closer towards him, putting a hand on his forehead.
Adam glanced up in surprise but you weren’t looking at him, your frown just deepening. “How long has your fever been running like this?”
“I’m fine.” Adam said and you rolled your eyes.
“Yeah, yeah.” You said. “Have you eaten today?”
The silence was as much answer as you needed. You shook your head and took out a bowl of soup from the bag you were carrying.
Adam looked like he wanted to argue but closed his mouth when he saw the look on your face. Instead, he lowered his head and accepted the bowl, taking small spoons of the soup you'd brought while you got up to get him some water and medicine.
“Here.” You said, your voice more gentle now as you took the half empty bowl out of his hands and handed him the tablet.
Adam glanced up at you.
“What, you think I’m gonna poison you?”
Adam just smiled, putting the pill in his mouth and swallowing.
“Alright, come on. I’ll take care of you.” You said, half joking.
Adam let you pull him to his feet but argued feebly. “I don’t need to be taken care of.”
“Yes you do.” You said, aware that your hand was clamped around his wrist now. Adam argued with you all the way to his room as you let him get into bed.
“I don’t…”
“Yeah, yeah.” You answered again. “Just sleep it off.”
You left him in bed, heading out to clear the bowls and glasses left behind, making another round around his living room before going back into his room to check on him.
Adam had fallen asleep, rightly so since even though he hated to admit it, he was sick.
But his fever hadn’t subsided and he barely stirred even when you put a hand to his head again. You were still worried but instead of overreacting, you dropped yourself to the floor at a safer distance on the other side of his bed, wanting to stay close by in case his fever spiked. Your eyes unconsciously drifted towards him once in a while as he slept.

Adam stirred, noting to himself that sleep was probably what he needed more than anything because he felt much better, until he registered his arm draped over…
He opened his eyes, freezing when he realized what his arm was draped over.
You.
Adam swallowed, as your eyes opened.
You’d already been awake but you were afraid to wake Adam if you moved since his hand was draped across you, so you’d closed your eyes again. And you’d opened them just to peek, meeting his alarmed brown ones now.
Startled, you threw yourself backwards this time, tumbling out of Adam’s bed with a crash.
“Y/N!”
If you could, you’d dig a hole in Adam's floor and crawl your way out of his apartment right now.
You were pretty sure you knew what had happened, as you felt the chill hit you from where you were seated on the floor now, despite the heating within the apartment. You’d probably nodded off to sleep and in a half-awake state had moved towards somewhere you could find warmth. Never mind that the warmth was under the covers of Adam’s bed, which he was also in.
“Y/N, you okay? Did you hurt yourself?” Adam was out of bed and kneeling in front of you now. And all you wanted to do was hide.
You looked up at him. “Yeah, I… Adam, I’m sorry. I don’t know what… I…”
Adam couldn’t help the small smile, as the corners of his lips turned up. “Hey, honest mistake, right?” Although Adam wished to God, it wasn’t.
You looked up now. “How’s the fever?” You asked.
Adam spread his arms out, as if to prove a point. “Told you I’d be fine.”
As if you needed to wash out the embarrassment, you mumbled something about getting some food for the both of you, before you dashed back out of his room.
Adam watched you rush towards his kitchen, smiling but also catching the barely formed thought in his mind of how it felt kind of nice waking up next to you.
Tumblr media
Adam glanced up at you. “Soup?”
Now that you’d had some time to let the feeling of embarrassment wash over you, things felt slightly more normal again.
In a bid to pretend like what had happened earlier that day didn't send the butterflies flapping their wings at twice their normal speed in your gut, you started talking. "I don’t care if your fever is down. You still get sick people food… for today.”
Adam made a small groaning noise as you put it in front of him, which only made you smile. You kind of liked how he was only like this with you. Anyone else who saw him outside on another day would never see this side of him.
"What would I do without you?" Adam said with a smile as you put the food in front of him.
You chuckled. "Yeah Ruze, what would you do without me?"
Adam smiled and nodded like he was agreeing with you. "Who else would accidentally fall asleep next to me?"
You felt your face turn red and you wanted to chuck something at him. Instead, you didn't answer, looking down.
Adam glanced up and smiled. "Relax, Y/N. It's forgotten, alright? Our little secret." He paused. "If that's what you want."
You narrowed your eyes at him but something felt different in the air, a little charged.
Swallowing, you handed him a glass of water from his own kitchen, busying yourself with clearing the now empty bowls from his kitchen counter.
When you looked up, Adam was watching you.
“In all seriousness, though.” Adam said. “Thanks for coming by.”
You smiled. “Of course, Adam. I’ll always…” You paused. “You can always count on me.”
A small silence fell between the two of you before Adam. “Y/N.”
You glanced up, the counter separating the two of you now empty save for the glass of water that Adam had been drinking out of.
“About today…”
You sighed. “Adam, I thought this was forgotten? Look, I’m sorry and if I made things weird…”
Adam shook his head, pushing his chair backwards and standing. “That’s not what I wanted to say.”
You frowned in confusion but waited for him to continue.
“Is it weird if I tell you that it was kind of nice? You know, waking up next to you. Seeing you the moment I opened my eyes, at least.” Adam said, his voice soft and a little tentative.
“You... what?”
Adam shrugged. “It doesn’t have to be a big deal. I just wanted to tell you…”
You reached for his hand now, taking one step towards him and slipping it into his. He looked up, a little shocked but his eyes tinged with a little hope that sparkled in his warm eyes.
“Yeah.” The word slipped out of your mouth, quiet and soft, but felt like it filled the apartment.
You and Adam had been dancing around each other for so long, you’d almost felt like maybe you’d dreamed all the little flirtations, or the moments you’d been a little too close. Suddenly, you didn’t feel like waiting anymore.
Adam squeezed your hand gently. “So, will you let me wake up next to you again, maybe?” He asked.
Your eyes flicked up towards his. "You're asking me to..."
Adam smiled and leaned forward to put his arms around you and you smiled into his shoulder. “Yeah, I’d love to wake up next to you.” You whispered, looping your arms around his waist.
Maybe a third person wouldn’t have gotten all the unspoken words Adam and you were saying, but you and Adam knew. And that was enough.

Delivery (Departure pt2)

pairing: Jay halstead x reader
summary: y/n is in labour and jay takes her to the hospital
warnings: none. just fluff (maybe a little bit aìof angst at some point)
~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•
previous part
When you hoped of Jay’s comeback during his eight months in the Army, you were not expecting that; you wanted to spend some time with your husband, talking about the baby with him, telling him everything that happened during those months while he was away. You wanted to have time for all of that, but you had not.
Jay was driving you to the hospital, hands tightened around the steering wheel, eyes fixed on the road, arms tense. He was so much nervous, and you could feel it from distance, everyone that knew Jay could have felt it too; you wanted to reassure him in some way, but you were to focused in not losing your mind, taking deep breaths, and trying to stay as much calm as possible.
“How are you?” He asked, turning his head towards you when he stopped at one of the red lights; you watched him closely and you tried to smiled at him sincerely; it wasn’t easy though, you started to feel pain because of the labour and all you wanted to do was seeing your doctor.
“I’m goo, Jay… it’s just…” You couldn’t avoid to moan in pain, feeling another contraction; you were just hoping to arrive at the hospital in time since there was so much traffic. “It hurts when the contraction kicks in, but I have endured worse pain after being shot at work, you know.”
Jay nodded and drummed his fingers on the steering wheel, watching at the lights to be sure that they were still red; he just wanted to push the accelerator, arriving at the hospital as early as possible. “I wish I have the police lights right now; I could use them to bring you to the hospital in just few minutes.”
You smiled a little and, after taking a deep breath, you took his hand in yours, smiling a little bit and looking at his eyes.
“Jay, don’t worry, okay? Me and the baby are still good, our child just wants to meet his father as soon as he can.” You smiled softly, caressing his hand, and letting it go just when the green lights appeared, letting him drive again towards the hospital.
“Is it a boy or a girl?” He at once asked you, smiling softly and relaxing a bit.
“I don’t know. I didn’t want to discover it without you, so I wait you and here you are. I guess we will find out the baby gender after I gave birth and, well… we still need to find a name for him or for her. What do you think?”
He smiled softly, driving towards the hospital, and thinking about everything that was happening to him; he came home eager to see you again, to hug you and kiss you, to kiss the love of his life. He wanted to tell you that he came back and that he would have stayed with you forever, that he wouldn’t leave you anymore, but he wasn’t expecting that. He didn’t know that he would have become father and, driving you to the hospital, he started to get nervous.
He kept asking himself if he was ready for that, if he would have been a good father.
You notice that something was wrong because you recognise at one the frowning expression he usually had when something was not right. Was he still angry with you? Was he nervous about something?
“What’s going on, Jay?” you asked him, breathing heavily because of the pain of the labour. “Why are you so strange? Are you still mad at me?”
He turned his face towards you after parking in front of the hospital, then he shook his head and he took your hand between his own, smiling softly at you and sighing. “I’m not mad at you. I was angry because I wanted to know it, but right now I’m just worried about you both and I’m nervous. I just wonder if I will be a good father for him, because I really want to.”
You smiled, shaking your head, and leaning forward; you placed a soft kiss on his lips for the first time after all those months and you smiled wider. God, you missed him so much. You would have kiss him for hours and hours if it wasn’t for the baby that was kicking its way out.
“I love you, Jay, and I know for sure that you will be the best father in the world, I already knew that the time I discovered I was pregnant.” You smiled, trying to reassure him somehow. You really wanted him to live the labour in the best way possible, especially since he didn’t have the chance to live the pregnancy as you did. “I never doubted it and I will never do.”
He ran one of his hands through his hair, taking deep breaths and trying to calm down. He needed to be strong for you, he needed to be calm for you; after all you were the one in labour, not him.
“Thank you, babe.” He whispered, nodding slightly, and looking at you with a smile on his lips. He was much calmer after your words, and he was now ready to become a dad. “Let’s go now, I’ll call Will to let him know that you’re pregnant and that you’re in labour.”
You reassured him, exiting the car and thanking him for his help when he got you in his arms, trying to help you walking toward the enter of the hospital. “Will knows that I’m pregnant. I asked him not to tell you because you were in Boliva and because was afraid that you would have done something stupid, that you would have become less focused on your job. He tried to convince me to tell you the truth so many times but, in the end, I always won.”
Jay was angry at the beginning, to discover that also his brother knew about the pregnancy, as well as his friends and everyone in the unit. He was the only one that left in the dark for so many months and he was also the first that should have known about it in the first place. He really wanted to scream, to yell, to let go all of his frustrations, but he didn’t want to do it now; he didn't want to scare you or to make you worried since you were in labour: he needed to stay calm and to be there for you both. It was difficult, he really was, but he did what was the best for his wife and for his future child.
“Okay, don’t worry.” He simply said, sighing. You both finally entered the hospital, and, after that, you were brought up into the obstetrics department of the hospital, were you will have been monitored till the right moment.
You started to become more nervous after every second; you just wanted to take the baby in your arms, to cuddle him and to show him to his father, the man of your life. You hoped and dreamed of that moment for months and, when it came, it wasn’t as you expected. The first visit you made with your doctor showed that there was something wrong. You and Jay immediately understood that when you saw their faces and you started panicking at once.
“What’s happening? Something’s wrong right?”
Jay tried to reassure you, stroking your hair, placing small kisses on your forehead, on your cheeks, trying to make you feeling better, trying to calm you down. The doctor and the nurses started to talk quietly and only after some minutes they talked to you.
“The umbilical cord is wrapped around the baby’s neck.” He said, the exact moment Will entered the room after being told of what was happening. Jay’s heart skipped a beat as soon as he heard the doctor, he looked up and he found Will’s gaze. Before the doctor could have said everything else, you started crying while Jay walked toward his brother.
“Will, tell me that everything is going to be fine.” He immediately asked his brother, not paying attention to the doctor that gave you the news; he tried to answer instead of Will, but Jay stopped him before he could. “I’m asking my brother’s opinion, not yours.” He pointed out.
Will shook his head and placed his hand on Jay’s shoulder, trying to reassure him. “Jay.. I’m not y/n’s doctor and you should listen to him. He knows what the best for the baby is and for her too, okay?”
Jay calmed down a little bit and he sighed deeply; he looked up at the doctor and he nodded at him to let him know that he had his full attention.
“I’ll have to move that from the baby’s neck during the childbirth. It may be painful, but we have to do it for the baby’s sake. It won’t be difficult, okay? It’s nothing to be worried about, I made it so may times and everything went as expected. I need you to stay calm, you both.”
Jay went back to your side, and he took your hand in his, trying to be there for you; he saw how nervous and worried you were and he needed to be strong for you, he needed to be calm for you and the baby. “You heard the doctor, love. The baby is gonna be alright, okay? We need to be positive right now. Maybe we can think about some names, what do you think?”
You nodded, trying to take deep breaths, and trying to be as calm as you could. Having Jay by your side made it so much easier and you were grateful for having him there with you. You both started to say names for the baby and, one hour later, when the contractions were very close to each other and painful, they brought you to the birth room. Jay followed back, keeping telling you that everything would have been alright, that the baby would have been healthy and that you just needed to be calm for him. He was always by your side. He didn’t leave you, he kept reassuring you with soft and sweet words, he kept stroking your head and kissing your forehead. He was with you every second, he never left. Even when the doctor used his hand to move away the umbilical cord from the baby’s neck, that was very painful, Jay was there.
“Hold on, love. Hold on for me, y/n, everything is gonna be alright after that, okay?” he kept telling you, caressing your hand while you screamed in pain. When, finally, the doctor gave you the permission to push again, you did it, hoping that everything would have ended as soon as it was possible. He was just too much to handle, and you just wanted to cry and to rest a little bit.
“Just one more push and you will meet your children!” the doctor encouraged you, and you did it. You squeezed Jay’s hand as strong as you could, screaming in pain and pushing again for the last time. you could even describe how it felt when you heard the baby crying. Your heart stopped beating and tears ran down your cheeks but, this time, those were not tears of pain. Jay, on his side, just couldn’t believe it, nor even when he heard the baby crying. He just couldn’t believe that he was a dad.
A nurse immediately placed the baby on your chest, wrapped around a pink towel. She smiled at you and Jay. “Congratulations. Mom and Dad, it’s a baby girl.”
You looked down at your baby and you cried again and again, looking at her baby face and at her hands. She was so small and beautiful at the same time. you just couldn't believe that such a beaty came out of you, you just couldn't believe that you were finally see the baby that you felt growing inside of you. You never felt so good, you never felt so alive.
“Do you want to take her?” You asked Jay, softly.
All the pain you felt just vanished when you took her between your arms, and, when you passed her to your husband, you were even more happy.
The way Jay’s eyes lit up when he took her in his arms was something you would have never forgotten.
“Hi, sweetheart.” He said softly, crying when the baby squeezed one of his fingers in her small hand. “God, she’s beautiful.”
He just couldn’t look away; she was too beautiful. He could have stayed there, cuddling, all the time, even for years. He just looked away from her when the nurse asked them about her name, that needed to be written down on her bracelet.
“Halstead, Kate Halstead.” Both of you said, smiling at each other.

When you and Adam started this little arrangement you never thought it would go on for as long as it had done, for the last year and a half your family knew him as your boyfriend. But that was far from the truth, he was your best friend and flatmate so it seemed the perfect option to get your parents off your back, did you want more? Yes but you didn’t know if you were that deep in the friend zone there was ever any escaping.
“You ready to put the show on Ruz?” You asked, grabbing an energy drink from the fridge as he walked out of his room in suit trousers and a white shirt, he had left the top buttons undone and had his sleeves rolled. And all of a sudden you felt like you couldn’t breath.
“Yeah” he nodded taking the can off, taking a sip “how long do we need to be there, I feel like an idiot wearing this”
“You look fine” you smiled, brushing down your dress. “You know no one will care anyway, all they will care about is how our relationship is going”
“What we telling them this time?” He chuckled as you both walked out of the flat, locking the door behind you.
“I’m feeling we go big” you nodded. “Maybe telling them you moved in with me, I mean it isn’t a lie”
“Yeah you have a point” he laughed “how long do you think we will have to play the fake boyfriend card?”
“You getting sick of me already, Ruz?” You smirked, raising your brow at him.
“Never” he winked, opening the car door for you. He wasn’t lying, he wanted nothing more than to stop pretending only to be able to kiss you, hold you and do everything couples do when you are around your parents. He wanted more but he didn’t know if you felt anything towards him.
Tumblr media
“Adam, it’s so good to see you” Your mum grinned pulling him into a tight hug.
“Oh I see how it is, no love for your oldest child” you pouted, glaring at your mum.
“Stop being dramatic” she laughed “you know we don’t see him as much as we would like”
“Because we are both business at work” you said rolling your eyes going to find your brother. At least he cared about you.
All you wanted was dinner to go smooth, your family to believe the lies you fed them, and to escape so you could get out of this dress and into your sweatpants.
Everyone took the news amazingly, you swore your mum was about to cry when you told her Adam had moved in with you. You jumped slightly when Adam linked his fingers with yours under the table, flashing you a smile that made you weak.
“Yeah we have been living together for a month now” he grinned “I don’t know why we didn’t do it sooner to be honest”
“That’s good to hear” your dad nodded “as long as you are treating my Princess right that is all I care about”
Resting your head on Adam’s shoulder he ran his thumb over your hand, in this moment you were so content and hated that this wasn’t real, but just as you took a sip of your wine Adam said something that made you choke.
“Marry me?” He whispered only loud enough for you to hear but due to it being so unexpected and you choking all eyes were on the two of you.
“Sorry wrong hole” you said trying to catch your breath, luckily no one had heard what Adam had just said but there was something about your mum's grin that told you she heard “you ready to go?” You asked Adam.
He gave you a simple nod and you said your goodbyes to your family and promised to not leave it as long.
The moment you got in the car you felt awkward.
“You know we’re not actually dating, so why did you propose to me in front of my family?” You said breaking the silence and sparking a cigarette.
“I’m sorry, I panicked.” He sighed starting the engine. “I don’t think any of them heard anyway”
“I think mum did by the grin on her face” you said taking a drag of your smoke.
“I meant it”
“What?” You asked puzzled.
“I meant it when I said marry me” he said glancing over to you, planting his free hand on your thigh.
“Adam we aren’t dating, it’s just a show” you sighed trying to control your heart rate.
“Well maybe we should, I mean we know each other better than everyone else, we have been fake dating for so long now I don’t want to be faking it anymore”
“I’ve waited so long for you to say that” you grinned “I thought I would always be stuck in the friend zone. But do you really want to get married?”
“Yeah I do” he grinned “I know I don’t have a ring or anything but we can go shopping for one in the morning, if you say yes that is”
“Let’s do it” you grinned squeezing his hand “let’s get married”

Burnt Lasagne and Beer
Tumblr media
Adam Ruzek x Reader
Requested by my amazing friend @chibsytelford // Can you just me lots of fluff with Ruzek please, maybe he has had a hard shift at work and he comes home to you and just needs looked after
Tag list: @itmejado @talicat713 @corebore123
You knew your boyfriend had a rubbish day just by how short his texts where. You hated days like this, where he would come home exhausted from a case. He wasn’t due home for another hour so you decided tonight was going to be all about him.
After having a quick tidy up you started gathering the ingredients for his favourite dinner, home made lasagne. In all honesty you had lost track of time as you had your music blaring, singing and dancing along you didn’t hear Adam come in.
“Well that’s a cute sight to see coming home” he laughed softly as he turned the music down.
“I do try” you laughed as you placed the tray into the oven before walking over to him. Wrapping your arms around his waist.
The way he melted into you with a sigh, told you every you needed to know.
“Rough day baby?” You asked looking up at him.
“Something like that” he mumbled kissing your head. “I dunno this case just hits hard because the vic looks so similar to you”
“But it’s not me baby” you whispered placing your hand on the side of his face and taking his hand placing it over your heart so he could feel your heart beat “I’m here, I’m okay. I sensed you had a bad day so just let me look after you tonight okay”
“Why are you so good to me” he whispered.
“Because I love you Adam” you smiled “now go get a shower and put some comfies on, trust me you will feel a bit better”
Soon enough Adam reappeared in just a grey pair is sweats, hair still wet from the shower.
“Come here” he smiled pulling you into his arms.
“Adam dinners gonna burn” you giggled as he wrapped his arms around you.
“I don’t care I want to hug my girlfriend so that’s what I’m gonna do” he whispered.
You don’t know how long he was stood this holding you but the smoke alarm started screeching making you pull away, frantically you turned the oven off before grabbing the oven gloves and pulling the burnt lasagne out.
“Urm dinners ready” you laughed placing it on the side.
“I’m sorry” Adam said looking guilty.
“Hey it’s okay” you smiled “I only cooked it because it was your favourite, I actually wanted pizza”
“Well let’s order pizza then” he laughed pulling his phone out.
Grabbing a couple of beers out the fridge you both headed to the sofa, Adam pulled you into his lap, as he ran his hand through your hair.
“Baby, switch off I can see you thinking about work” you whispered running your fingers along his chest.
“I can’t help it baby” he sighed. “I can’t help but think I could have done more you know”
“Adam listen to me, I know I wasn’t there but I know damn well you would have done everything you could have done to save that girl” you said “I know you struggle to switch off so let’s put a film on and just cuddle. What do you want to watch?”
“The gentlemen” he mumbled.
You had a feeling he would have chose that one, it was something more light hearted and was funny as fuck.
As he was setting the film up the door went, padding over to the door you paid the delivery guy before making your way back to the sofa, grabbing a six pack of beer out the fridge on the way. Once you was planted back on adams lap you pulled the blanket over the both of you as he pressed play on the film.
This was what he needed, he didn’t need you nagging him to talk, that never worked with him. He just needed to be holding you, knowing you was here with him and you was okay.
“I love you Ruzek” you smiled placing a soft kiss on his bare chest.
“I love you too baby” he whispered kissing your head “thank you for just being here”

spooky season ✩ jay halstead
Tumblr media
summary: in which y/n celebrates her favourite time of the year with jay and the intelligence unit
a/n: this is something I wrote around halloween but never finished until now! also lol soz I've not posted in 2785927 years, started uni and now have zero free time.
in the eyes of y/n y/l/n, halloween had always been and would always be the best time of the year. she didn’t know what it was about it all that had her buzzing the moment that the calendar changed to october, but it was undeniable.
“that’s it i’m not coming out! i look ridiculous, y/n!” adam yelled from where himself, jay and kevin had gone to get ready in the break room. stood besides kim as they both secured the orange and brown wigs onto their heads, a hearty laugh slipped past her lips.
“oh come on, ruzek, it can’t be that bad!” y/n knew how dramatic the man could be, and judging by the reaction she had received when she handed him the costume, she had been expecting a little resistance.
the sound of the squeak as the door pulled open had the pair of best friends completely abandoning their task, instead completely focusing on the man appearing dressed head to toe in a scooby doo costume. y/n couldn’t even supress it, the laugh that left her body had her doubled over. her hands gripping the desk for support as kim’s laughter soon joined into her chorus.
“i’m meant to be a respectful member of this community! i can’t go out looking like this!” his voice was slowly rising in pitch the longer he was agitated. y/n and kim couldn’t even look at each other, tears clouding their eyes, and a realisation that if they did they’d just laugh even harder.
“since when were you a ‘respectful member of this community’?” kevin suddenly appeared besides him, arm wrapping around his friend’s shoulders. “looking good ladies.” winking y/n and kim’s way, both girls stood up to give a twirl of their daphne and velma outfits that they had to help one another get on.
“how come kev gets to put on a green shirt and brown trouser, but i have to walk around in this sauna of a costume?” kevin’s eyes rolled back at the bickering he had to listen to for the last hour and what seemed like the rest of the night.
“looks like someone needs a scooby snack.” knocking one of his ears, adam quickly retaliated and the pair of them began a bickering war. “down boy!” kevin continued to tease until kim had no choice but to get between the two before the real dog fight began.
usually y/n would have enjoyed watching as adam complained about everything and everyone, but instead she was too distracted by the one member of the group that was missing. frowning, she casually strolled towards the closed break room door.
y/n didn’t even bother knocking, instead slipping in knowing that no one would notice. leaning against the closed door, a small smirk attached itself to her lips as she studied the man in front of her fiddling with the orange bandana around his neck.
“need some help?” jay had been so caught up in trying to finish off his outfit that he had not even heard her walk in. however the moment that he pulled his eyes away from the orange material it was soon falling to the floor, immediately distracted by the goddess of a woman sharing his space.
“fucking hell.” his eyes roamed from her purple knee high boot up along the clingy, figure hugging purple material all the way to the artificial orange hair that was resting upon her head. pushing her way off the door, y/n steps were placed strategically, capturing his attention more and more until it was practically throttling him.
“looks good?” she whispered, her chest pressed against his own. bringing her fingers up to his face, she softly caressed down his cheek before grabbing the material that had been giving him such problems. jay’s eyes were transfixed on her face, hypnotised by the glossy red lipstick that he’d risk ruining his white shirt.
“you look amazing. you better be keeping this outfit after tonight.” he grinned, as she glanced up innocently, though the look in her eye was anything but angelic. jay couldn’t stop his hands from slipping along her waist, and anywhere else they could reach.
“wow, you weren’t kidding when you said you had a crush on daphne as a kid, huh?.” releasing the knotted handkerchief, y/n lightly tapped her boyfriend’s chest, pulling away so he didn’t make the decision to ruin her makeup for a kiss. sighing loudly, jay’s hand stung from losing contact from the warmth that constantly emitted from y/n’s body.
just when y/n went to open her mouth, a loud knock on the door had them both alert remembering that their coworkers were still waiting for them on the other side of the door.
“the taxi is here!” kim called out, popping her head around to see the two.
“come on, lover boy.” grabbing jay’s hand, y/n pulled him out to the others. the two other men nodded in respect at the fred costume that jay was most certainly pulling off.
“lets go to the mystery machine, gang!” y/n shouted.
“you’ve been waiting this whole time to say that, haven’t you?” jay whispered in her ear, as she giggled. ignoring him, the group soon filtered downstairs into the taxi and towards the community party.
--
“oh my god, you guys look amazing!” herrmann cheered as he caught sight of the entire group enter the community hall. y/n immediately spotted cindy and the kids all of them dressed as the 101 dalmatians, offering them a wave, she looked back at the father. “you lot really are the mystery gang!”
“see, herrmann gets it!” y/n snapped towards adam, who had been going off about y/n’s dumb costume choice the whole time during the cab ride.
“whatever, i’m gonna go steal some candy off a child.” adam huffed, storming away shortly followed by kim who was in charge of making sure adam didn’t ruin some poor kid’s halloween.
“i think i’m gonna go get a drink, i’ll see you guys in a bit!” y/n mumbled, more to her boyfriend than anyone else. jay didn’t seem keen to let go of her, not that he ever was, but the growing group of people whose eyes were waving over his girlfriend had his grip tightening a little more than usual. “get a table, and i will get us a drink. i’ll be fine.” jay trusted her, that wasn’t the problem. it was everyone else and the strange amount of confidence a holiday and moderate amount of alcohol gave them.
peeling away from his side, y/n skipped over to the bar. leant against the countertop, she waited for the barman to serve the couple a few seats over. as she did so, her eyes switched over to observe as the groups of children ran around in their costumes. a smile was brought to her face as she was reminded of the halloweens of her childhood.
her mom had always loved dressing her children up in costumes, typically handmade. their home would be lit up with decorations often to a more extreme extent than during the winter holidays. this time of the year always made her extra nostalgic and comforted by memories
“well hello there, daphne.” and moment ruined. turning to her left, y/n didn’t express any emotion as she studied the so called ‘joker’. his blonde hair had quite viciously been attacked by green chalk, whilst his face resembled that of a three year old let loose within their mother’s makeup bag. “I have a little mystery for you to solve... what is hot, single and thinking that you should come home with him?”
the grimace that was bestowed upon y/n’s face was one of the best she had ever created. with her eyes scanning the scrawny man who was obviously very proud of his ‘pick up line’. his tongue glided over his lip and eyes narrowed as he attempted to look sexy, but in turn it only enlarged the woman’s urge to thump him in the face.
“oh come on!” he groaned with a wide smirk, his head lulling back as it ruptured through his chest. “what? you have some little boyfriend around here or something?” his finger trailing down her arm as she stood their in pure shock, her mind debating whether it was the right time to grab the pepperspray she carried in her bag for occasions like this.
“actually, yeah I do.” she humoured him, pulling her arm away but this only made him step closer to her. his body was uncomfortably warm and sticky, but y/n found it impossible to move back anymore trapping her.
“really? cause i don’t see him.” just as he went to reach for a strand of her wig that had fallen in her face, a hand clamped down onto his shoulder causing him to halt in surprise.
“turn around,” the voice was like a sign of home to the woman, who didn’t miss how it was a little deeper than usual. the joker seemed to recognise the threat that stood behind him, body awkwardly turning until he was stood face to face with an extremely pissed off jay halstead. jay’s eyes were dark and portrayed how the tight lip smile that he was displaying was anything but kind. “now you see him.”
the drunken fool recognised he was outranked as he was soon wriggling away, apologising to jay for ‘trying it with his girl’, not looking twice at the woman he had been harassing the entire time. y/n and jay stood there for a couple of seconds just looking at one another, jay’s gaze had defrosted and a sympathetic look was painted upon his face. part of y/n had expected him to say something like ‘I told you so’ - because he had done just that. but that wasn’t jay.
“I'm gonna kill him.” he stated fists clenched against the bar, as he eyed the man that had moved to sit in the furthest away corner. his body was hot with frustration, having noticed too late the hassle his girlfriend was facing. he should have stayed with her, he cursed himself out, but knew that y/n was no frail object. he - along with most of chicago - had seen her singlehandedly take down some of the city’s biggest and most terrifying individuals. yet the urge to protect her never lessened.
moving over to him slowly, he was again fell into her enticing aura as she took ahold of one of his fists in both her hands. with her fingers running over his knuckles comfortingly, she brought it up to her lips and pressed a soft kiss. with her eyes drawing to his, a small smile graced her lips.
“as fun as that may be to watch, forget about him,” y/n reassured, releasing his hand which instinctively moved to rest upon her hip. as the barman approached, y/n ordered their usual, before returning to the man admiring her by her side. “why you looking at me like that?”
“you are just so beautiful, I don’t understand how I ever got so lucky.” pulling him closer to her, a small gasp left her lips. the way he spoke was so genuine that y/n felt her heart squeeze.
no words felt strong enough to express exactly how she was feeling or how she wanted to respond, so instead her hands travelled up to the back of his head and pulled him down until their lips firmly pressed against the others letting all unspoken feelings and thoughts out.
pulling away, they both beamed.
“we should probably go find the others...” y/n hummed, much to jay’s dismay who groaned in annoyance. he wanted nothing more than to kiss her again and again for the rest of his life. “as much as I love you, I promised kim that we wouldn’t run off to leave her to deal with ruzek alone.” she frowned, leaning up to press another kiss against his lips.
“I love you too.” jay grinned, making y/n’s eyes roll. of course that had been the only thing he had heard. grabbing their drinks the pair of them returned to the table that was filled with their friends, who were all in full blown laughter and conversation. it was at that moment that both members of the couple noticed the source.
in the centre of the room, besides kim, sat Adam with a grumpy frown upon his lips as he looked at the ‘dog bowl’ that the bartender had been instructed to put his beer in as a final surprise by y/n and kim. truth be told y/n had completely forgotten about the little prank, but it all seemed worth it now.
“I hate you.” adam mouthed as the woman took a seat down besides her boyfriend, who was almost in tears. blowing a kiss in his direction, y/n took a large swig of her long Island ice tea and relaxed as she felt jay’s arm wrap around her shoulders.
“you are an evil woman, you know that?” jay whispered into her ear, his hot breath creeping down her neck. it felt surreal the way they could shift so easily into a world of their own, blocking out everyone around them with just a look, or a touch or a word.
“isn’t that why you love me?” raising her left eyebrow, jay couldn’t argue with her. he was undoubtably, completely in love with y/n y/l/n. smiling as he pulled away, he shrugged in defeat.
“more than you’ll ever know.”

Macie's loud protests echoed through the apartment as Hailey got her strapped up into the car seat. The nine-month-old had hated the seat since the day she was taken home, and would voice her opinions on it every time she was confined to it.
The day she was taken home, hearing her fuss all the way down from the ward to the car wasn't sad - it didn't break Hailey's heart like she'd expected it to - as it was a really loud reminder of how lucky her and Jay were and just how resilient and strong their daughter was. However after a few weeks of bringing the infant to and from the district to show her off, that's when it started getting upsetting to hear her cry, and it only got worse when Mae started shedding real tears.
Hailey rocked the car seat on top of the kitchen counter and shushed, not that it made much of a difference to calm the infant. She peers over her shoulder to see if Jay was there but she couldn't see him, so instead she grabs the keys from her coat pocket, rattling them in front of Macie's face.
Mae's cries cool and her eyes focus on the keys, but there's still quiet whimpers coming from her every once in a while. After a minute though the keys apparently get boring, as she rips her gaze away from it and starts crying again.
"Oh the drama." Hailey comments as Macie throws her head to one side while she starts rocking the seat back and forth again.
She's got her back turned when she just about hears Jay's voice coming out of Macie's nursery.
"Tell me why Adam chose the pumpkin patch that's almost an hour away, rather than the one ten minutes from the district." He sighs, approaching the kitchen.
He's quick to hand her a bottle, which instantly gets eyed by Macie. Her small arms reach out to grab the milk, making both of her parents chuckle slightly. Only then does the apartment fall into a sure silence, apart from the soft sounds of Mae suckling at the bottle.
Hailey lets out a quick breath before shooting Jay a smile. "It's Adam," she replies, earning a knowing nod from him in return. Her eyes then fall back down to Macie. "I just hope she sleeps on the drive there, then maybe she won't be in such a cranky mood."
Jay rests his hand on the kitchen island. "It's those damn teeth poking through, they're frickin sharp."
"I told you not to put your finger near her mouth."
"It wasn't my finger, the kid nearly took off my toe."
She tries to fight off the eye-roll, but she can't. "God, now I know where she gets it from, you're both so dramatic."
"Am not." He argues, his face dropping down with hurt.
"You so are," Hailey says, grabbing the top of the car seat and lifting it up. The movement jerks Macie and she lets out a noise. "See, Mae agrees too."
Jay bends down and fixes the bottle back into the infant's mouth to avoid her screaming out again. "Mace doesn't have a dramatic bone in her body."
Hailey tilts her head to one side. "Ah, but you didn't deny you have."
This time it was Jay's turn to roll his eyes and he did it to hide away the smile creeping up on his lips. He lets it go, deciding it was best not to carry this on because she would only end up beating him anyway. He picks the bag up by the door and throws it over his shoulder as she exits the apartment.
"I'm loving the pink on you, by the way." Hailey adds, then quickly disappears off toward the car before Jay has the chance to reply.
She loads the car seat into the base in the back of the truck before taking the bag when handed it. The blonde grabs a blanket and toy from inside and places them at her daughter's feet for when the infant finishes her bottle, ensuring the seat is secure before shutting the back door with a quiet thud.
She walks around the back of the truck, round to the passenger side, joining Jay in the front. Once she's seated, she peers over her shoulder to check on Macie, who was still sucking away at the bottle.
Jay pulls the truck out of the spot and onto the main road. He drives in silence for a few minutes, seeming to know what he was doing but when he pulls on to the same road he had been on moments earlier, Hailey looks at him.
"Do you know where you're going?" She asks.
He quickly nods, keeping his eyes on the road. "Yes I know where I'm going." He sounds sure but the confused dip in his eyebrows tells Hailey differently, so she reaches into her pocket and pulls her phone out, knowing Kim had texted her the address earlier that day.
She leans forward in her seat, beginning to put it into the GPS, but Jay's voice stops her as she puts in the first letter.
"What are you doing?"
"Jay, you don't know where you're going, so please just save us the problem of getting lost halfway there and let me put it in."
He doesn't argue further, allowing Hailey to put the address into the system, it quickly calculating the route and calling out directions every so often.
The gentle hum and vibration of the truck is enough to pull Macie into a slumber less than ten minutes into the drive, the girl leaving a quarter of the bottle left, but thankfully she sleeps the entire drive, only waking when Jay pulls the car seat out of the car and clips it into the stroller base.
She fusses slightly having been woken up, but Hailey returns the bottle into her mouth and she takes it graciously, finishing it off as they enter the farm.
The three of them barely get through the entrance before a familiar voice can be heard shouting at them from ahead.
"Hailey! Jay! Quickly, we're over here!"
A quick glance around had them looking at a round picnic table, which their friends were sitting around. They start to head over, shooting their friends a smile as they did and when they get within two feet of the table, Kim's daughter Makayla looks up with puppy dog eyes.
"Now they're here, can I please go on the carousel?" She begs.
Kim moves her hand to rest it on Makayla's back. "Just give them a minute to sit down, then you can."
Hailey cuts in, flicking her wrist slightly. "Oh no, please, we've been sitting down for an hour, take us to the carousel."
The girl jumps up with a grin and starts running off toward the attraction, and it brings a laugh out of everyone when Adam starts running off behind Makayla. However when Kim calls out for them, they stop very abruptly in their path, both staying in exactly the same place as they wait for the adults to catch up.
People are just getting off when they arrive there, so Kim takes the very eager Makayla on straight away, a very eager Adam following closely behind them. As more families climb on, Kim persuades Hailey to come on with Macie so as the blonde pulls the nine-month-old out from the car seat, she glances over at her fiancé.
"You coming on too?" She asks.
Jay doesn't waste a beat before shaking his head. "Not a chance, but I'll wave at you both every time you go past."
Hailey's head falls to the side. "You're boring." She says, taking a few steps backwards toward the carousel before turning her back to climb on properly, sitting next to Kim and Makayla.
As the carousel starts up again, Jay gives Hailey a small smile and wave and she sticks her tongue out at him, bringing a chuckle up in his chest.
On the first circle around, Hailey points Macie to Jay and the girl bursts out into a bright smile upon spotting him. On the second circle around, Kevin comes up behind Jay, tapping his shoulder.
"Why didn't you go on?" Kev asks but doesn't give him a chance to respond before he adds, "And don't say it's a kid thing because Adam is also on there right now."
Jay shrugs. "Someone had to stay with the stroller."
Kevin shakes his head. "Hailey's right, you are boring."
Jay stares up at the officer and raises his eyebrows. "Oh yeah, how come you didn't go on then?"
The taller one doesn't look at him as he replies. "I don't have a kid."
"Neither does Adam," The detective says, making Kevin turn his head to face him. They both look at each other in silence for less than a second, the officer giving Jay a look, and Jay's lips form a line. "Who am I kidding, yes he does. It may not be on paper, but he does."
The two cops return to watching the carousel as it goes around, both of them waving to the rest of the group as they go past. Another circle around, Jay pats Kevin on the shoulder.
"Just you left then."
The officer quickly chuckles. "Oh no, I prefer the nieces and nephews, thanks."
"Kids completely off the table?" Jay asks.
"I raised my brother and sister, I've had enough of.. all that for one lifetime," Kevin explains, Jay nodding along with him. The taller one then cracks a wide smile. "But hey, I'm open for babysitting any time."
"We might just take you up on that one."
The carousel comes to a slow stop, and Makayla jumps off with a beam. Without giving Kim a second to climb off herself, the girl looks up at her. "Can we do it again?" She asks.
Kim laughs. "Woah, we just got off of it."
"Please?" Makayla extends the syllable, pulling her hands together. Her bottom lip moves into a pout, making Kim cave.
"Okay, but after lunch."
"Yes!" She cheers, bouncing with excitement.
Hailey approaches Jay, handing Macie over into his arms. The nine-month-old grins up at Jay, then looks around the buzzing farm around them. Hailey ran her hand over the girl's short fuzz, and then down her back, a wide smile on her own face. "She loved it, she was squealing basically the entire way round."
"I could see that." Jay replies,
"You gotta come on next time," Hailey says, earning a shake of his head in return. "Oh come on, Mae would love you on there with her."
Jay's face straightens out. "How dare you use our daughter to manipulate me."
Hailey shrugs her shoulders, shooting him an innocent smile, however Jay doesn't get a chance to reply as Adam behind them cuts him off.
"What are we doing next?" He asks, clasping his hands together.
Kim stares over at her partner. "Will you cool off too? We've only just got here."
Adam nods. "But there's so much to do." He says, earning a few eye rolls from Kim and Kevin.
Over the next few hours, they venture around the farm, making sure to hit as many attractions as possible. They took a very slow walk around the petting zoo and Makayla was an inch away from convincing Adam to buy her a rabbit before Kim returned from the bathroom and shut him down.
Kevin then manages to convince the nervous Makayla that nothing in the Haunted House could get to her, as they would have to go through the cops surrounding and protecting her, and she goes in clutching onto his hand and comes back out again grinning.
Hailey takes (rather drags) Jay onto the Pumpkin Express with the girls while the officers collected lunch and found an empty table to sit at, and as promised Kim takes Makayla on to the carousel once they've eaten.
On their exit, they make sure to go through the straw maze, and the seven of them end up getting lost for fifteen minutes before finding the way out.
They all bid farewell in the car park, Adam helping assist Kevin with the transfer of the half-asleep Makayla into Kim's car, and then they drive off one by one.
Once they arrive back home, Hailey all but flops on to the couch as Jay takes Macie from her car seat.
"That was fun today." Hailey says quietly.
Jay treks into the living room, nodding his head as he sits beside her, putting Macie in his lap. "It really was."
Hailey sits up slightly, feeling the smile already pulling on her lips before she can even speak the words. "Did you see the way the girls' eyes lit up on that train?" She asks, grinning at the memory of it.
"Yeah, that was so cute." Jay says, fixing the back of Macie's shirt.
"We should do it every year." She suggests.
Jay hooks his eyebrow up. "Really?"
Hailey bobs her head. "Yeah. I just - Mae was so happy today, can you just imagine what it'll be like when she can fully understand it and enjoy it all properly?" She wonders, and it brings a smile to her fiancé's lips too. "We should make it like our little family tradition."
And they do, making sure to book at least Saturday off in October to go to the farm, and it quickly becomes something the kids look forward to each year.
(And it only takes a few years of going for Macie to bring out her own puppy eyes, begging Jay to come on to the carousel with them, as to which he quickly caves because Hailey was right, she loved the ride and it was so much better watching her from the seat over rather than from ten feet away. From that day onwards, he always made sure to go on the ride.)
