This is the official dialogue per IMDB. I guess you could say it's questionable but Daniel does call out the BS about how they were scattered and then Louis has to admit he just didn't wanna share it last time?
Daniel Molloy: So, it begs the question, where were all these diaries in 1973?
Louis de Pointe du Lac: Scattered. One in New Orleans, another in Paris.
Daniel Molloy: Bullshit.
Louis de Pointe du Lac: [long pause] Claudia was… everything. I loved her unconditionally. All the noise, the chaos, the crisis of my former existence, silenced. The simple joy of her hand in mine.
Daniel Molloy: You had a daughter.
Louis de Pointe du Lac: I had a daughter.
Daniel Molloy: I've got two. The love is kind of…
Louis de Pointe du Lac: And if you were to come across their diaries and learn, in detail, how and when you failed them, would you share those failures with a brash young reporter you met at Polynesian Mary's?
So I think Louis just couldnt face his failures then or share them with someone he met in such a casual encounter vs now trusting them wth an older Daniel who has kids of his own
thank u for the script! i agree that louis didnt want to face how he hurt claudia.. even now, when recalling the day he doomed her to being trapped in a physically eternal adolescence[+ her later, even crueler death], he still frames claudia as 'his light, his redemption' [for what, lou? his past of tricking? when her life would be so tragic with or without louis?] but as to if he knew the full content of claudia's diaries in the 1970s we wouldnt know yet + daniel dont rly got the perspective to know whether louis did or didnt have them neither? i dont think we as the audience were meant to take what daniel said here as some sort of confirmation that louis always had the diaries. n tbf would louis rly wanna share those diaries w a 20 something he met at a gay bar tho even if he had them? if we r meant to think louis had claudia's diaries in the 1970s based off this scene id be interested in how the show would do this.. i just find it rly interesting how louis seems to be motivated to gather this truth + reconciliation committee over his own life knowing in his read of claudia's diaries that she resented both lestat and louis, who cut out which parts exactly, as well as other extenuating factors i done said before contrasting his mindset in the 70s v. now.. im not tooo committed to any particular line of speculation but i took dan’s saying its bullshit bc all he know is 1) claudia literally isnt there in the modern day and its clear other ppl have censored her diaries and 2) he suspects louis’s involvement in why/how.. he says bullshit on the diaries being scattered but we know louis and claudia traverse both new orleans & paris so i took it as dan's pov also being biased just as any other? dan is using this interview as a means to doubly probe into louis’s psychology, and he doesnt have the most generous read on louis's 'reliability'. this 'trust' or reliability as i put it erodes the further the interview goes on, the less daniel knows the more hes afraid of, and when hes afraid like bogosian says, he becomes more combative + less concilatory/actually conducting a proper interview lolol. his prior knowledge of the 1970s tapes is being subsumed by the modern interview. the old tapes just got burnt by lou last ep after all, and what we see on screen is not word for word beat for beat what louis is telling daniel [or otherwise showing daniel thru the mind].
side note: something i find interesting in the script..
The love is kind of…
trashbag deadbeat dad whos daughters prolly refused to talk to him if not cut him off completely the older they became [daniel] meets emotionally codependent mom/vampire sibling ..

Hello. We are now officially in the cheating phase. And a lot happened over few days: 1/2 2x18: ‘oh look, Blondie is back..are we finally done with the dramatics? Brian..i mean it’s not like this isn’t a new thing but damn this isn’t gonna help, is it? Boys, come on just kiss and make up.’ He just sighed and flopped back on the couch because Ben and Mikey came up but he is a little worried about Ben. ‘YOU HOPED HE WOULD SURPRISE YOU BUT YOU DIDNT EVEN TELL HIM YOURE GOING?! JUSTIN COME ON COMMON SENSE!!! Daphne knock some sense into him! WHY IS THERE VIOLIN MUSIC WHY?!?! NO NO NO NO NOOOO. GET FUCKED MY DUDE! Justin come on!! This is pure bullshit, wipe that fucking smile off your face, this shit isn’t even impressive, blah blah blah blah how do you not puke when you say these things’ Ethan says his “pretty good, I’m a genius” line to which my brother scoffed and went ‘my man, your IQ wouldn’t even register as an earthquake so humble yourself..oh they’ve been telling you that since you were 6? WELL GET FUCKED because I am here to deliver some news for you, you ain’t shit!’ He just paused the tv and is hysterically laughing ‘First off my man, back the fuck up, nobody needs to feel your breath while you talk and second of all *in a mocking voice* it comes through you? Justin come the fuck on, you can’t seriously fall for this bullshit. (Ethan points to the garbage truck) oh look, your ride is here, now hop on and fuck off.’ He is currently livid about George and Emmett but he is also angry at Ethan and he can’t decide which one to focus on. ‘Ben, no offense but I don’t have the time for you. I gotta knock some sense into Justin…He has a tummy ach- oh there goes Ben, fuck!’ ‘HE MADE HIM CARRY A GARBAGE COUCH TO THE TOP FLOOR? Justin, push him down the stairs. Where the fuck is Brian because i am sick of this shit. Justin, i know a way cooler place..one that doesn’t have a couch infested by bugs..i hate his accent when he pronounces fancy shit. Like we get it dude you jerk off to your violin, NOW GET OFF MY TV!..Justin stop talking shit about Brian. This isn’t cute, he NEVER speaks badly about you. That’s right fucker! They LIVE TOGETHER!…oh this goatee fucker is jealous of Brian’s job and loft and everything else. Good. Eat shit. *mocks Ethan again* how about you practice practice practice fucking off because I’m tired tired tired *pauses the tv and looks at me* just so you know, i wanted to tell him to jump off a bridge but decided not to cause that might be a bit much for now. NO JUSTIN YOU WILL NOT SEE HIM AROUND BECAUSE WE HAVE RULES AND BRIAN AND RULES THAT YOU MADE. Did he invite Brian to that art thingy? He better! I need Brian to see him and laugh in his face!’ ‘AHHH BRIAN AND JUSTIN! Justin, baby, clearly his work is stressful right now and you can tell. Stop being insulted cause your grown man with a job has a job to worry about. Also your day was full of that fucker so maybe shush! Justin…did you think about Brian when you were carrying that ugly couch? *another pause* What’s with the moping? I get that he was sad cause of Vermont which btw, he acted dumb on that one so that is fully his own fault. But this *waves his hand at Justin on tv* is bullshit. I raised you better than that. OH I WONDER WHY YOUR TRIP WASNT FUN WITHOUT HIM? You are so dumb, i love you so much Blondie but you’re so dumb. SO YOU DIDNT THINK HED CARE THAT YOU LEFT BUT YOU TOLD DAPHNE THAT YOU WAITED FOR HIM?! HOW ABOUT TALKING? You are running in circles and I am LOSING MY FUCKING MIND. Of course he missed you, stop being a little bitch. OH DAMN..WHILE THEY STAND?! OH COME ON BEN WHAT A FUCKING COCKBLOCK’ He now paused the tv and went outside for a cigarette. This man is about to hit midlife crisis and we aren’t even 20 minutes in. ‘Okay Michael, what are we measuring here? Everyone needs someone. Oh look its the art thingy!! Where is Brian? OH FOR FUCKS SAKE WHY IN THE HELL ARE YOU HERE?! I take it back, go jump off a bridge IM EXHAUSTED-Daphne, my girl! Please, I am begging you, please don’t like him! Pleaseeeee!’
Oh dear sweet anon, we're really in it now. Thoughts and prayers to you and your brother.
(Ethan points to the garbage truck) oh look, your ride is here, now hop on and fuck off. HA! Your brother is right.
how about you practice practice practice fucking off because I’m tired tired tired *pauses the tv and looks at me* just so you know, i wanted to tell him to jump off a bridge but decided not to cause that might be a bit much for now I LOVE how careful your brother is with his insults.
HOW ABOUT TALKING? <- every fan of this show ever
Oh boy oh boy. I know it only goes downhill from here...

tachihara/gin/higuchi headcanons
wdym I made a new sideblog just to post this hhahaha
tachihara, age 19, he/him, pansexual
had a minor sexuality crisis over gin and ended up spending at least 3 hours on the internet doing research
found gin's bizarre personality endearing and likes his laugh
tachihara confesses to gin after talking to higuchi about it
"we'll both confess and then no hard feelings"
gin admits that he likes both of them so they end up a vee, before becoming a triad
forgets that he doesn't have to hide his ability all the time
tachihara is the most comfortable with using his ability around gin and higuchi
gin and higuchi visits tachihara's barren apartment and have a field day decorating
gin and higuchi tell tachihara that he looks hot in uniform
tachihara never lives the shade of his blush after that down, teruko and jouno tease him relentlessly
p.s. no fucking clue how this current arc is gonna end but I suspect we’ll get deus ex machina-ed at some point and everyone who died and/or was irreversibly injured will be restored via magic book powers
yea so for the sake of this post let's pretend that tachihara is allowed to be a double double agent and both mori and teruko are aware but they let it happen
gin, (headcanon) age 19, he/him/she/her, asexual
attracted to both at the same time
appreciates tachihara's blunt honesty and enjoys banter with him, also thinks his awkward side is cute
finds higuchi attractive and #girlboss and is low key jealous of his brother
thinks ryuunosuke is dumb for giving higuchi the cold shoulder
unintentionally boosts higuchi and tachihara's self esteem by casually dishing compliments
gets confused when they splutter and ask him how he can flirt shamelessly with a straight face "I'm not flirting, I'm just stating the truth?" "smooth boyfriend alert wtffff"
higuchi and tachihara never stay over at gin's place because they don't want to run into ryuunosuke
tachihara and higuchi have mastered the delicate art of interpreting gin’s facial expressions behind a mask
watches tachihara and higuchi’s back in fights. has lost count of the number of times he saved them
ryuunosuke threatens both higuchi and tachihara with his expression alone on principle
higuchi and gin do each others hair and own matching hair accessories
higuchi, (headcanon) age 20, she/her, bisexual
thinks gin's blush is pretty and that she digs the goth aesthetic
she's the one who tachihara clings to in haunted houses or when watching horror movies
gin is less obvious about being unsettled by haunted houses but he still wants to hold higuchi’s hand
higuchi is the one to take initiative and confess to gin first
tachihara and gin gave higuchi a “no fear” t-shirt for her birthday
tachihara is surprisingly good with younger kids. he plays with higuchi’s younger sister a lot
higuchi drives the car because neither tachihara nor gin are trusted behind the wheel
her ability is still ??? so this is unrelated but imo she doesn’t have one yet it’ll awaken when she and gin finally kiss
immaculate fashion sense
is in officially in charge of procuring tachihara and gin’s formal wear because god (aka hirotsu) knows that those two would come in their work rags if given the reins
“this is my boyfriend gin and this is gin’s boyfriend tachihara”

after writing 80,000 words and having a small breakdown over the interests post ive decided to just let my real freak flag fly (being emotional over my tav mosslark rather than just durge)
i just love them so much
they were born in a vile period of neverwinter history, internally displaced with a large amount of the fellow poorer residents within the city and growing up in the Blacklake temporary settlement after the Volcano Incident. then they had to deal with being a visibly diabolically influenced kid at a time when a tiefling led cult was rising up and causing problems that would have had knock on effects to the rest of the population, and neverwinter having its own gortash-esque political crisis.
i also drew on the concept of demonic/diabolic traits sometimes skipping multiple generations, so they are the only one in their family of moon elves.
(also tbh im not a fan of the way tieflings get grouped sometimes in Official Material and am not skilled enough to write directly about the racialized perspective on it - many people eminently more qualified to do so have done that - so my take on the label for Moss is informed by my own experiences of disability and queerness and neurodiversity. it's a catch-all term applied to them by everyone else, and they'll use it when talking to other people but do not care for it.)
they endured a lot when young, stabilized, had like 20 good years and now have been thrown directly into a hydraulic press. they have really solid convictions and some really solid principles but on some things they just have no idea. they're wildly out of their depth for most of the game. they were a tailor with a combat class there only for top surgery and the ability to do basic magic for work.
they arrive in baldur's gate and they are frothing, absolutely seething about the way the refugees are being treated, and it'll be a major snapping point for them when i get there in the fic.
everyone else is getting their traumatic backstories resolved in act 3 and this is mosslark's future traumatic backstory and they will not be coping well with it.

INTERVIEW TRANSLATION

Q1: How was your solo magazine shoot? When we do these shoots as a full group, we laugh with and lean on each other, there’s a lot of skinship going on (laugh) but I didn’t have anyone beside me today so I worked on revealing just my own charms and characteristics. It’s my first time having this type of styling but it was fun. I enjoy usually just having the usual natural and effortless style, but I also liked wearing so many colors!
Q2: “ANTIFRAGILE” entered the billboard 200 as 14th, sold over 560,00 initial copies, and is receiving a lot of hot reactions domestically. How do you feel? We received much more love and support than we expected for fearless so I really clenched my teeth and worked hard <for this release>. But we got so much love this time again, so I’m deeply thankful and find it unbelievable. Entering the billboard chart I watched closely when I was younger! I felt that people were unpredictable. (laugh)
Q3: It’ll be December, your first end of the year since your debut. How did you spend this year? It was a very very precious and valuable year, It was one where my life made a 180 degree flip. I want to tell this to me from a year ago, “You’ll be able to do your best if you go with the flow. There is a reason for everything, so don’t lose your strength”. It was an amazing year being a 21 year-old, and I plan to fill my 20s up to the brim with LE SSERAFIM, so I’m looking forward to the future even more!
Q4: LE SSERAFIM is a team that sings of having the strength to not crumble under adversity, self-positivity and affirmation. I know that this concept was formed through stories of the member’s own selves. That’s right. We did long, individual interviews before our debut. We told them about what thoughts we have, and what we can do well. But apparently, we had all told similar things. We have a lot of hunger/desire, we want to learn, we want to improve, we don’t want to settle for anything and we want to go out <into the world>. And we all have the attitude of  recognising our shortcomings and accepting them, fascinating right? (laugh)
Q5: Is Yunjin “ANTIFRAGILE”? It’s like, for “FEARLESS” promotions I was a person with no fear, and for “ANTIFRAGILE” promotions I became someone who grew stronger in crisis, even more so when I’m performing. Since I trust myself, I feel really strong at any moment. Watching our documentary “LE SSERAFIM- The World Is My Oyster” that holds our process to debut made us reminisce of the past. I thought, “Of course, since I was able to face and overcome those trials I became tougher”. (laugh)
Q6: What kind of person was the young Jennifer like? You grew up in New York, you did plays in the drama club and you were also in musicals, you were captain of the hockey team, took part in opera and French clubs. you had a life that would fit one of the protagonist of a high-teen story. I’ve been very curious since I was young. past or present, I’ve always been an avidly ambitious girl. (laugh) I’d join a new club every year, over the break I’d go on fieldtrips and camping, and get even closer with my friends. But I wasn’t always a bright person. As I was approaching puberty I had a lot of worries about my identity, and I worried about my own future as well. “There are lots things that I want to do, but am I someone who is suitable for that? Will I be able to do it?”
Q7: Was music the answer that you found? It was. Although I’m lively I’m actually the type of person who has trouble opening up about what’s going on in my head, but when  write songs and I can turn my thoughts into music, I could get to understand myself better. It’s very embarrassing to look at the music that I wrote at that time, but I was able to get my thoughts and emotions across very well. (laugh) I realised that music was a way for me to tell my stories, and I then started dreaming of becoming a singer.
Q8: It must’ve been a huge decision to bite the bullet and come to Korea to become a K-pop idol. I’ve always wanted to experience and try a lot of challenges when I was younger, I enjoyed doing opera and studying and playing hockey, but none of them really felt like they were what I wanted to do. So I was always nervous about my future, but my ‘This is it!’ moment came. I saw BTS sunbaenim get awarded on “American Music Awards” and I still remember what I felt when I saw it on TV. K-pop gave me a lots of strength when I really worried about many small things while living in The States, and I thought that I also wanted to make this type of music that could give courage to someone out there.
Q9: You came to Korea and took part in a survival show, and living as a trainee I’d think that you felt that the world was a cruel and cold place. How did you get part such a hard period in your life? It wasn’t easy, since it was a different language and culture, the trainee life was a huge challenge and before I could even get used to it I was in a survival show. When I went back to being a trainee again, I really wanted to survive so I tried to fit myself into the standards of other people. I think I lost my confidence, it was really hard for me to do what I wanted, even <singing> my own songs.
Q10: So when you left the company and returned to The States to prepare for college entrance exams, I heard you had no thoughts of becoming an idol. But after hearing the concept for LE SSERAFIM, you thought “I can make my own music as an idol” and decided to fly back to Korea. I heard that ‘your own music’ is incredibly important to you. That’s right, I got a hunch that the chance to make my life-long dream come true had appeared. After we had completed the interviews for what kind of narrative we wanted to tell, there was a briefing for LE SSERAFIM’s branding and I cried right then and there, it was exactly what I wanted to relay. “So everything I’ve been through, I experienced it all for this. So I’ve been living for LE SSERAFIM <this whole time>.” I was inconsolable, (laugh) it must’ve been destiny.
Q11: You laugh animatedly, you sob loudly when you cry, and express your emotions pleasantly like a “good-natured girl”, did I get that right? (reference to weverse magazine article) Right, a “good-natured girl”! I really like that word. (laugh) I found out that I was someone who laughed freely for the first time while promoting as LE SSERAFIM, I couldn’t really do that as a trainee. We made our debut and my heart is at peace, and I think the reason why I can express my emotions so well is because I am content every single day.
Q12: If you, Huh Yunjin, have a ‘fragile’ side, what kind of side is it? Uhm… Surprisingly, I find it hard to be transparent and show my self to other people. The one and only moment I can be transparent is when I’m writing or making music, so that makes me gravitate towards making music more. But when I sing those songs that contain a part of myself that’s weak and other people listen to it, I grow stronger. (laugh) Music is what makes me  ‘antifragile’. I think I’m learning to use music as a way for me to begin to share my honest and vulnerable stories.
Q13. What do you think are your strong and weak points? I’m a contradictory person. My strong points are that I’m easy-going and honest, but my weak points are that it takes a long time for me to become transparent and that I’m fearful. Before LE SSERAFIM, I would say “I’m okay!” even if I’m not okay, but as I’m part of  LE SSERAFIM I’m becoming open bit by bit, and I’m learning how I can show myself to others. The members always encourage me, saying “It’s okay Yunjin-ah, things happen but it’s everything’s okay.” I’m really thankful.
Q14: How do you embrace your weak points like ‘my scars are a part of me’? (fearless lyrics) I’ve been thinking this lately, “My best today, my best tomorrow, and my best yesterday are not the same. Everyone’s standards are different, so I’ll accept myself wholeheartedly and match my own standards.” I live with the ‘so what, le sserafim!’ (reference to le sserafim’s human idol theatre episode) kind of mindset. (laugh)
Q15: Do you have a lot of hunger/greed? I have a lot, LE SSERAFIM is full of ambitious girls. (laugh) There’s the desire to go what we want to do, and the desire to do our absolute best.
Q16: What’s something that you really want to do well in right now? The year-end performances! We really clenched our teeth in preparation for it.
Q17: What’s something you’ve been really itching for? Personally, I really want to do a tour. We’ve done a few events and each time the energy really recharges us. Right now, in this very moment, I want to do one. (laugh) Performing is so fun and exhilarating. I’m the type who receives heaps of energy from the crowd’s responses. I didn’t know this, but now that we’ve done it in person I thought “Ah, so this is why they say the fans’ reactions are your driving force”.
Q18: What if there’s something that people might misunderstand about you? If we’re talking about Fearnots, then there’s nothing. I’m the same with or without a camera. (laugh) The me everyone sees is the actual me. I’ve been mistaken as someone tough and scary just from my appearance by people who don’t know me very well. I’m a soft and delicate person, just like soft tofu (sun-dubu). (laugh)
Q19: You participated in the lyrics of 3 songs for this album, which is the one that you like the most? It wasn’t included in the album, but I choose the song in the trailer video. “I’m a mess in distress, but we’re still the best dressed / fearless, say yes, we don’t dress to impress.” The lyrics say that though I’m messy and in pain I’m still well-dressed, but we’re not dressed up so we can look good to other people. I just wrote whatever I thought up but it got confirmed right away and we recorded it.
Q20: What kind of song do you want to write in the future? I like songs similar to “Impurities” that are jazzy, groovy, and have a laid-back rhythm. I also want to write soulful RnB, Jazz, and a Punk-Rock song. Not just writing the lyrics and composing, but I want to try my hand with producing. I want to be an amazing singer-song writer like Taylor Swift.
Q21: How far do you want to go? I’m curious about your ambition. I want to go even farther than what I can imagine now, so I can’t explain it with just words. (laugh)
Q22: What do you, Huh Yunjin, believe in? That everything happens for a reason. I’ll look back into the past later on and think “So that’s why that happened” and realisation will dawn on me. I believe in fate.

Happy 47th Birthday Scottish singersongwriter  KT Tunstall
Kate “KT” Victoria Tunstall was born in Edinburgh, 1975,  her birth mother was a  Hong Kong-born exotic dancer, who put her up for adoption her parents David and Rosemary Tunstall adopted her and raised her in St Andrews, she has always been aware that she was adopted.
Strangely enough for a musician of her magnitude, KT Tunstall did not grow up in a musical household. Her parents' only tape was a Tom Lehrer album on tape, leading Tunstall to discover the world of music entirely on her own , but it didn’t hold her back, KT was musical from an early age, learning to play piano, flute and guitar as a teenager.
KT moved to the USA, hungry for experiences and independence, she gained a scholarship to Kent School in Connecticut, New England. Whilst out there KT spent time on a hippy commune and formed her first band, The Happy Campers, she also spent a lot of time on busking in Burlington, Vermont.
After her time in the U.S she enrolled in a  music course at Royal Holloway College in London, before finally moving back to St Andrews, she joined a group of folk musicians from around the East Neuk  called The Fence Collective, which included the very talented Kenny Anderson aka King Creosote, in time she decided folk music was not for her and went on her way.
She began writing projects with Swedish songwriter/producer Martin Terefe and London-based Orcadian Jimmy Hogarth and London’s Tommy D. She started work on her debut album with her new band and legendary U2/New Order/Happy Monday’s producer Steve Osborne at the helm. ‘Eye to the Telescope’ saw her whittle down a massive catalogue of over 100 songs to just 12.
Luck played a part in her big break when due to another artist pulling out she appeared on  'Later With Jools Holland’ performing 'Black Horse and the Cherry Tree’ it went on to become one of the most played songs of the summer. Her double platinum selling debut album 'Eye to the Telescope’ was nominated for the prestigious Mercury Prize.
KT has now had 6 top 20 albums, the latest, Wax was in 2018, it reached number 6 in Scotland and 15 in the UK charts, her new album, Nut, is due out in September.
I remember her being interviewed on The Proclaimers, This is the Story documentary in 2017, where she chose their excellent song Scotland’s Story, commenting “Scotland’s Story just really struck me as quite a different song for them, that they were really saying something incredibly poignant and quite brave. It’s quite a critical song of the way that Scotland’s history is logged.
"Here we are in 2017 and it couldn’t be a more poignant, relevant song for what’s going on in the world and I just thought for right now, it’s an amazing song to sing.”
KT  has suffered hearing problems since 20n July 2021, she announced that she was having to pull out of her summer tour dates and permanently avoid lengthy runs of closely consecutive performances, citing issues with her right ear which were "exactly how the breakdown of my left ear began"  In July 2021, she announced that she was having to pull out of her summer tour dates and permanently avoid lengthy runs of closely consecutive performances, citing issues with her right ear which were "exactly how the breakdown of my left ear began"   Hearing problems have always been a worry to her; her brother  was profoundly deaf since birth.
Tunstall has recently joined a host of famous faces to create special limited-edition postcards for this summer’s music festivals on behalf of the charity WaterAid. The limited-edition postcards will be officially launched at Glastonbury festival, which kicks off tomorrow. Festival-goers can pick up an exclusive postcard and send one to Boris Johnson calling for the government to take urgent action to tackle the climate crisis.
KT, who featured water-themed lyrics on her postcard, said: “It’s unacceptable that one in ten people have no clean water, and that these are the same people who are living on the frontline of the climate crisis.
“Water is so key to life, a lot of lyrics in my songs centre around it. My postcard design in support of WaterAid’s climate campaign features every lyric I’ve been inspired to write about water. With clean water, communities can stay healthy now and in the future.”
It’s never easy choosing a song for my posts, especially with someone like KT, who has a great catalogue to choose from , but I've plumped for a cover of a Bruce Springsteen she performed at  The Quay Sessions with another recent birthday girl, Julie Fowlis, it’s called State Trooper.

Social Change Blog #2- History of Homelessness in Portland and actions now
The Portland Homeless Crisis P:2
Asia Lumoya-Wills
UNST 242A
Tumblr media Tumblr media
My main research for social change is homelessness in Portland, Oregon. Portland hasn't always been known for the large population of homelessness, but over the years the city of roses has turned into homelessness and a hot spot for drug abuse. Homelessness didn't start to become a major problem till around the late 19th century. “There are many factors that contributed to Oregon’s current homelessness crisis. But most agree that the blame largely falls on one problem: the state’s affordable housing shortage”(Zielinski, 2023). Portland relied on low-wage migrant workers who were employed as warehouse workers, longshoremen, and loggers to keep the Portland economy stable. However, these workers could not afford to buy houses in Portland so there was something called, “short-term lodging houses” in an attempt to fix this issue. These lodging houses were one-room single occupancy hotels with communal kitchens and bathrooms. A large part of why these lodging houses were widely used came down to the low rates that came with spending the night there. Over time the use of short-term lodging decreased and was eventually torn down. In the 1950s and 1960’s these lodging houses were torn down for urban renewal, thus ending short-term lodging.  Upon delving into the history of homelessness in Portland, we have to take into account a fact that most people forget.  Although the homeless crisis has blown up in recent years, Portland has long been at risk for homelessness due to the outrageous housing prices and the ratio of low-income waged workers living there. Although this has always been an issue, homelessness in Portland has taken a completely different shape. Homelessness in recent years has skyrocketed and grown out of the city’s control. Efforts needed to be made to tackle the homeless crisis in the city.
Two local non-profit organizations that attempted to do this are the Transition Projects and Operation Night Watch. “In any given year, we help place more than 1,000 people into affordable housing - and then support them in retaining that housing”(Transition Projects, 2023). The transition project is mainly focused on housing and helping others maintain that housing. Operation Night Watch is another nonprofit organization dedicated to improving homelessness in Portland. Their main focus is,“Nighttime hospitality for Portland’s unhoused population to promote dignity, community, and social connection” (Nightwatch,2021).  Essentially this organization provides free individual counseling sessions while also providing essentials such as food, socks, blankets, etc. This is a social way for those on the streets unhoused to get the mental health help they need all while making sure they have the survival necessities they need for living on the street as well.
Another recent attempt at improving the homeless situation in Portland came through Oregon ballots. “In 2020, Oregon voters passed the HereTogether-Metro Regional Supportive Housing Measure. This measure is one of the most ambitious efforts in the nation in terms of providing critical funding to services that support people transitioning out of homelessness” (Gaitán, 2023). This measure aimed to decrease the risk of homelessness both in people transitioning out of homelessness and struggling to avoid it. The act is set to be implemented in the year 2030 and is one of the current actions being taken to reduce homelessness in Portland.

‘Nightmare Frustration’: Family Gives Up On New Electric Vehicle Mid-Road Trip, Rents Gas Guzzler Instead
Here’s some comedy for ya.
Meet Dalbir Bala. He bought a 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning Lariat that features an extended-range battery, and he now regrets it after trying to take it on a road trip and being forced to finish the trip in a gas-powered rental vehicle.
From La Salle, Canada, Bala abandoned his truck last month in Minnesota after he tried — and failed — to charge the truck’s battery at two charging stations.
“It was really a nightmare frustration for us,” Bala said.
Advertised as having a range of 320 miles (515 kilometers), he bought the truck back in January for $115,000. Bala put in an additional $16,000 to install chargers at his house, as well as his trucking business, and he also upgraded his residential electrical panel.
In other words, it was an incredible waste of money.
Is anybody really shocked here?
Ever since electric vehicles have come out, we’ve seen story after story for years about the disasters of said electric vehicles. Anywhere from hilarious stories like this one to outright dangerous. Honestly, I’m surprised that people still buy electric vehicles in 2023.
Plus, at this point, with how much nonsense the left has pushed with electric vehicles and the whole climate change blah, blah, blah, I can’t help but to view electric vehicles as completely anti-American. Yeah, this guy is from Canada, but you get my point. (RELATED: ‘People Want To Drive Gasoline-Powered Cars’: Former Trump Admin Official Rips Biden’s EV Push)
Anyone who lived through Jimmy Carter's government manufactured Energy Crisis of the 80s will remember the Carter legislated fuel efficient K-cars. These massively under powered vehicles couldn't pass other cars on a windy day. Their tiny 4 cylinder Trucks truck engines couldn't pull a trailer over 20 miles per hour. And you could forget about steep hills or long trips. As soon as Carter was booted out of office we went right back to building cars that, while not fuel efficient, at least fulfilled the purpose they were designed for.

hii!! i’m the american anon that wants to move to italy! thank you so much for your input! i saw that you’ve also lived in the Netherlands and that’s a place i’ve also been recently considering as well!! could you tell me a bit about what it’s like to live there? i’ve heard that there’s a bit of a housing shortage as well in Amsterdam recently! do you think it’s difficult to get a job there if you aren’t from there? i also love how people seem to bike everywhere!! i’ve been studying italian for a few weeks because it’s definitely still one of my top choices. my plan is to move to the uk, then eventually make my way over to italy or the netherlands. i feel like that would be a little bit easier for me. did you like living in italy or the netherlands better? i think there will always be cons about every country you go to, but i think i would take the cons of italy, the netherlands, and the uk over the cons of the united states any day lol. thank you!!!! ❤️
Hi!! Glad to help hahah :)))
So! I actually lived in Belgium, not the Netherlands, but I LOVED it. Best six months of my life and I’m not even joking hahaha. I’ve been to the Netherlands and it’s basically the same except for the size because Belgium is reeeeally small. About the size of Maryland but with double the population. The train sister is quite good so you can reach every “big” city in 1h (there are like 3 big cities, so it’s not that hard really hahaha). I lived in Ghent which is in Flanders so they speak Flemish and Dutch (they’re kinda similar but don’t tell anyone I said that) and some also speak French. The weird thing about Belgium is that they have three official languages (French, Dutch, German) depending on the region but as I said to Gina it doesn’t really matter as everyone speaks English. Can’t have a damn private conversation in public ever even though you’re in a foreign country 😂
Belgium is like the less cool sister of the Netherlands but I think it’s very underrated!!!!! They’re very open and welcoming and progressive. Everyone bikes there as well 😂 you have to pay attention because bikes RULE and if you’re on foot you have to stop to let them through (which is absurd to me, being Italian, bc here you see a few bikes and THEY stop lol). Anyway the housing “crisis” is common in both countries, I think. Maybe a bit better in Belgium? Not sure though, sorry 🤷
As for job opportunities, I think it’s easier than in other places (now I’m talking about both countries). They’re very international, and obv it depends on what kind of job you’re looking for an show qualified you are but overall I think there’s a good job offer (my professor once told me that the province I was in had an employment rate of 80% in people aged 20-60). Again, idk anything specific about the Netherlands but I know more than one person that moved there and found a job quite easily compared to Italy.
Now! Moving on to Italy ;))
I can’t say I want to keep living here, honestly. The south is left behind, work is hard to find unless you’re somewhat specialised, the cost of living is levitating and the government sucks. However, we have a history of unstable governments so who knows how long it will last hahah
There are some new awful waves of homo/transphobia and hate crimes + being an ex fascist country that never truly went away completely. However it’s full of people that fucking hate fascists and nazis and manifest their disapproval regarding right wing parties (that are currently governing) and policies. I have to admit that I’m not that much into politics because I’m tiiiiiired of it being always the same shit if not worse and I think this is a widespread feeling (less and less people care and vote so this obviously makes everything get worse 💀).
The transportation is good only in big cities and between them, really. I lived 50km away from uni and it took me TWO HOURS with at least two different means of transportation. Now that I live in the city, though, I can go wherever I want very easily even though I’m in the outskirts. Milan (which is where I live and study haha) is beautiful, but very busy and definitely not the most beautiful city in the country. I like living here though, you have everything you need and more + the cultural scene is quite active and there are always events of any kind. I have to say it’s a bit more clean than, for example, Rome. It’s called the economical capital of Italy so as you can imagine finding a job here is easier than in other places. Many people from the south actually migrate up north to have better job opportunities (which means that the south keeps lagging behind etc etc and it SUCKS because the south is sooo beautiful and the living conditions could be so much better if we had a good government that knew how to handle stuff to use the resources we have ☹️).
So, Milan is good for work and stuff but people are definì less welcoming than the rest of Italy. Everyone is always busy lol. However (it’s fucking sad to say but it’s true) I’m pretty sure that since you’re American and not from somewhere in Africa, South America or Asia.. people would treat better. There’s still this kind of myth about the American dream, you know? I think it’s the remains of our ancestors migrating to America to have better life opportunities (only to be treated as garbage like they threat immigrants here 💀 sometimes I can’t believe how fucking stupid and plainly ignorant some people can be).
I think I also have to mention that Italian bureaucracy is fucking awful. Like. For real. The worst thing ever. It takes ages for the smallest, stupidest things, you still need to do a lot of stuff in person and not online and in general it doesn’t work really well. I have no idea how it works in the rest of the world but I know that it’s been like 9 months since a relative of mine passed away and we’re still waiting for the succession to be done. To make another example: to have the passport you have to take an appointment and the first free slots are usually after at least three months. Then you need to go to that specific place which must be in your province of residence and it takes like 10 mins to sign the docs and let them take them your fingerprints and THEN you wait like two more weeks for it to be ready to be picked up. I swear it’s so!!!!! Frustrating!!!!!!
Now that I read back what I wrote I realised that it doesn’t sound really positive 😂 maybe it’s bc as I said I want to move so I tend to take into consideration all those things that make me wanna go abroad.. Anyway in conclusion I kinda agree with the other anon that messaged Gina. It’s a beautiful place but more like for holidays than for living. In my opinion.
I think that going to the UK is obviously a good choice, but I’m not sure it’s gonna be that easy to go live in the continent afterwards, after the brexit mess and all that. It’s fucked up, really. It was sooo easy before that :((
I think the best option (but, like, I’m no one to tell you what’s best, obviously jdjdjs) is would be to go the the Netherlands or Belgium and from there moving wherever you want. I think it would be way easier since they’re parte of the UE etc. + as I said like ten times they’re very very nice places to live in :))
This has gotten very very long and I’m sorry haha 😅 can you tell I have something to do that I really don’t want to do? Anyway if you have more questions or other stuff you’re curious about feel free to ask!!!

2022. (Part 1)
First of all, Merry Christmas!
Damn..It‘s Christmas already.. my family does not celebrate Christmas since they are muslim. So basically the Christmas days are the most boring days in the year for me… Nevertheless these days also encourage me to look back at the year.
2022 was a goddamn roller coaster… It‘s weird because this year has been the worst and also a good year at the same time??
If I would give 2022 a title, I think it would be: „The worst identity crisis ever“. After coming to realization that I want to quit my studies because I am not happy with the way it‘s going..all my expectations in life crashed.
I hate uncertainty.. It makes me overwhelmed. Every day I read quotes like: „Life is spontaneous.“ But I hate being spontaneous. I hate having no control. It makes me anxious. Sometimes I tell my girlfriend that I wished someone handed me a plan, once I was born , with everything on it that I have to do. So I can just stick to the plan, have the control over it. Have a control on my life. But I guess Life is just the way it is. You can make something out of it. Still if something happens.. then either you are lucky or it just turns your life upside down in seconds. I hate the thought, my body is in constant fight or flight response. Going through every possible scenario in my head to every occurring events or whatsoever.
I think after having multiple breakdowns, not knowing who I really am and what makes me..me. I tried to listen to my „inner child“. Sounds a bit weird but trust me, it actually helps. I turned 20 this year. So basically I am „officially“ an adult. „Finding once „inner child“ is not helping becoming an adult!“ I, very much, disagree. I feel that my inner child helped me going through things that I deeply love, that I may lost on my way during puberty but still lived deep down in the core of my soul.
I started reading more books this year, I started collecting Lego. In future I want to join a fun football team again. I started realizing what I truly want to do in future when it comes to studies/jobs. Only because I’ve ,for once deeply, been listening to my soul and heart = my inner child. I should probably do an own blog entry to that topic since this year I‘ve been deeply invested with it.

Blog Post #2
The root of the homeless problem is the housing crisis. Of course, along with the lack of affordable housing, there is unemployment, mental disorders, physical disabilities, substance abuse, crime, and violence. A lot of these things can be tied together but to be houseless is not to have a house because it is getting too expensive.
With rent prices keep going up it is forcing all kinds of people out of their homes. As of 2022 the average price for a single bedroom in Portland, Oregon is $1,500. People who receive disability checks can get up to $500 but that does not cover even half of the rent. 20 years ago that check would have paid for being able to cover the cost but not now. Families have to worry about feeding their kids, buying clothes, transportation, cost of gas and this alone is all very expensive even for people who do have jobs and are living a middle-class life. Something as simple as a medical bill or auto repairs could put but a whole family out onto the streets. Once you are houseless it is very hard to regain that stability again.
Washington state has a homeless crisis response system that they are putting into place. This system will recognize when a person becomes homeless and the immediate system response quickly moves that person back into housing as soon as possible. There is a lot that goes into this system to help it function properly. The executive summary of Washington's strategy overview states: This update to Washington State’s Homeless Housing Strategic Plan describes the specific actions the state will take over the next five years to work toward the vision of no person left living outside. Through continuing performance improvement efforts and state and local investments, the successful implementation of this plan is estimated to reduce unsheltered homelessness by 12% in 2024.
This plan has already been in progress for 2 years now and has 2 more years to reach its goal of increasing homelessness by %12. Oregon also has its own plans in motion. Many state officials of Oregon say the cost to fix and tackle the homeless problem will cost around 400 million dollars. They don’t want to just do sweeps and clean up but actually build shelters, affordable housing, and build community.
The organization Neighbors Helping Neighbors here in Portland was founded by a man named Terrance Moses. Terrance went to the houseless people in his neighborhood and directly asked them what they needed. Collectively they really needed places to dispose of their trash. Terrance and many volunteers now drop off bags and pick them up when they are full. The name of this organization stands true, they really are just neighbors helping neighbors. Just because you are houseless does not mean you want to live in garbage, something as simple as a place to put your trash helps.
Another organization that I actually decided to sign up and volunteer at is a call P:ear. This nonprofit was created to help youth get off the streets, and give them opportunities to learn about art and cooking. They teach work training for trade jobs and even have a coffee shop for these kids to learn the art of making coffee and making money for themselves. This place holds many workshops and offers mentoring. I just found out about P:ear last night while doing some research and decided to sign up for their next training orientation in November. Their website and their story were inspiring and if I am going to be rambling on about how we can help our neighbors I figured I should take action, instead of just writing a blog about the problem.
There is so much data that has been taken and so many laws, bills, and money that needs to be passed and put into action. I do not have control over anything when it comes to how or when the money will be spent. I do however have control over how I spend my time and I want to spend it listening and connecting with my neighbors. I vow to make this more than just a blog I am writing for class, I vow to learn but I also vow to help. My goal by this time next year is to get involved with an organization that builds homes for those in need. As stated previously the root of this problem is the housing crisis.

hermes mini kelly 4
Hermes, Hardware, Bag, Hardware Kit, Kelly Mini, Kelly 25, Kelly 28, Kelly 35 Black and white never used to be my factor – until I moved to Paris and something modified. I am carrying neutral colours greater than ever, and although I thought that is so basic, these days I simply adore it. Not positive if its the affect of Paris, or just the impact of Corona on trend. When big crisis on the planet happened fashion all the time came out slightly bit modified. Remember how minimalism became large after the last recession? The Kelly bag may come in all shapes, colours, patterns, and supplies, which makes for a seemingly personalized handbag that feels as if it was designed only for you. Classics similar to this have no want for publicity, but there is a Mini Trend on Instagram these days of this lovely bag. Metaphorically, after all, there’s literally nothing dark about being a frugal fashionista and going for knock off purses – if it’s done right, of course. Very few examples of the Exceptional Diamond Kelly have ever appeared at auction, and classic ones are significantly rare. The Hermès Birkin is considered by many to be most collectable bag on the planet. She was solid as a "younger Quaker bride to Gary Cooper's stoic Marshall", and wore a "suitably demure vaguely Victorian costume", alongside Cooper, who was 28 years her senior. High Noon garnered 4 Academy Awards, and has since been ranked by some reviewers among the finest films of all time. It deals in vintage objects and vintage collections, each new and used.Basically, we provide free delivery regardless of the place you purchase, and you can also ask us about our warranty for high value gadgets. A step above it’s Birkin counterpart when it comes to rarity, the Himalayan Kelly is really particular. The term “Himalayan” refers back to the unique coloration of the bag. Colloquially known as the Lettre Kellys, the official title of the complete line is Kellygraphie. wikipedia handbags All rights reserved - All the brands on this website belong to their owners. Investing in one of our Kelly or Birkin bag is at all times a good investement. Average price of the Kelly and Birkin bag has been multiply by two in 7 years. First, please observe that my cellphone in the prime picture is an iPhone 11 Pro within the smaller measurement . I chosen this telephone particularly in anticipation of the Mini Kelly and it fits nice. I do are probably to take it out of its case when I put it in the bag. Whether the ultimate product is a silk carréin a kaleidoscope of colors, or a chunky lacquer H-bangle, every Hermès object evokes the luxury of the brand. Now, the above is retail pricing … What really blows our thoughts are the Kelly 20 prices in the secondary market. However steep you may assume $8000, resellers demand multiples of that. It’s common to see these listed with value tags of $30,000 – $40,000. Part of the allure of this bag is what quantity of variations there could be, which opens the imagination and prospects for the long run. If you would have your ideal Kelly bag, what would you make it? In 2014, and with out much fanfare, a highly elusive set of Kelly bags hit stores the world over. In the Thirties, Robert Dumas (son-in-law to Émile-Maurice Hermès, Thierry’s grandson) designed a smaller, trapezoidal tackle the flap bag with a deal with and two facet straps. Later, actress Grace Kelly, then engaged to Prince Rainier of Monaco, is claimed to have used considered one of these baggage to conceal her pregnancy through the Fifties. Because she was photographed continually, the coverage catapulted her purse to international popularity. In 1977, Hermès officially renamed the model for her, and the Kelly bag was born. mini kelly bag The inside is lined with Sanguine lambskin leather and has one open pocket... This Kelly, in the Sellier style, is in Jaune Bourgeon chevre leather with palladium hardware and has tonal stitching, two straps with front toggle closure, single rolled handle and removable shoulder strap. This Kelly, in the Sellier type, is in Rose Sakura chevre leather with palladium hardware and has tonal stitching, two straps with entrance toggle closure, single rolled deal with and removable shoulder strap. With the rise within the online resale market for Hermes baggage, many have turned to Luxe.It.Fwd as Australia’s most trusted on-line vacation spot for pre-owned luxurious handbags, footwear and equipment. As a end result, it is thought-about as the “classical bag” of Hermes. Skyrocketed on all the magazine covers of the world, the kelly bag of Hermes knew the success when it has been paparazzied on the new bumpy belly of Grace Kelly in 1954. During the 20 subsequent years, all the ladies wanted to buy “the bag of Grace Kelly”. The Kelly Pochette was Jean-Paul Gaultier's clutch interpretation of the basic Kelly bag. Introduced on the autumn runway of his first assortment for the House in 2004, the Kelly Pochette was an instant hit. When Hermes got here out with Cactus, it was hailed as the ‘matte’ equal of their much-loved shiny Vert Emerald; wealthy, deep and multifaceted, saturated and brilliant suddenly.

“Covid has unleashed the most severe setback to women’s liberation in my lifetime. While watching this happen, I have started to think we are witnessing an outbreak of disaster patriarchy.
Naomi Klein was the first to identify “disaster capitalism”, when capitalists use a disaster to impose measures they couldn’t possibly get away with in normal times, generating more profit for themselves. Disaster patriarchy is a parallel and complementary process, where men exploit a crisis to reassert control and dominance, and rapidly erase hard-earned women’s rights. (The term “racialized disaster patriarchy” was used by Rachel E Luft in writing about an intersectional model for understanding disaster 10 years after Hurricane Katrina.) All over the world, patriarchy has taken full advantage of the virus to reclaim power – on the one hand, escalating the danger and violence to women, and on the other, stepping in as their supposed controller and protector.
I have spent months interviewing activists and grassroots leaders around the world, from Kenya to France to India, to find out how this process is affecting them, and how they are fighting back. In very different contexts, five key factors come up again and again. In disaster patriarchy, women lose their safety, their economic power, their autonomy, their education, and they are pushed on to the frontlines, unprotected, to be sacrificed.
Part of me hesitates to use the word “patriarchy”, because some people feel confused by it, and others feel it’s archaic. I have tried to imagine a newer, more contemporary phrase for it, but I have watched how we keep changing language, updating and modernising our descriptions in an attempt to meet the horror of the moment. I think, for example, of all the names we have given to the act of women being beaten by their partner. First, it was battery, then domestic violence, then intimate partner violence, and most recently intimate terrorism. We are forever doing the painstaking work of refining and illuminating, rather than insisting the patriarchs work harder to deepen their understanding of a system that is eviscerating the planet. So, I’m sticking with the word.
In this devastating time of Covid we have seen an explosion of violence towards women, whether they are cisgender or gender-diverse. Intimate terrorism in lockdown has turned the home into a kind of torture chamber for millions of women. We have seen the spread of revenge porn as lockdown has pushed the world online; such digital sexual abuse is now central to domestic violence as intimate partners threaten to share sexually explicit images without victims’ consent.
The conditions of lockdown – confinement, economic insecurity, fear of illness, excess of alcohol – were a perfect storm for abuse. It is hard to determine what is more disturbing: the fact that in 2021 thousands of men still feel willing and entitled to control, torture and beat their wives, girlfriends and children, or that no government appears to have thought about this in their planning for lockdown.
In Peru, hundreds of women and girls have gone missing since lockdown was imposed, and are feared dead. According to official figures reported by Al Jazeera, 606 girls and 309 women went missing between 16 March and 30 June last year. Worldwide, the closure of schools has increased the likelihood of various forms of violence. The US Rape Abuse and Incest National Network says its helpline for survivors of sexual assault has never been in such demand in its 26-year history, as children are locked in with abusers with no ability to alert their teachers or friends. In Italy, calls to the national anti-violence toll-free number increased by 73% between 1 March and 16 April 2020, according to the activist Luisa Rizzitelli. In Mexico, emergency call handlers received the highest number of calls in the country’s history, and the number of women who sought domestic violence shelters quadrupled.
To add outrage to outrage, many governments reduced funding for these shelters at the exact moment they were most needed. This seems to be true throughout Europe. In the UK, providers told Human Rights Watch that the Covid-19 crisis has exacerbated a lack of access to services for migrant and Black, Asian and minority ethnic women. The organisations working with these communities say that persistent inequality leads to additional difficulties in accessing services such as education, healthcare and disaster relief remotely.
In the US, more than 5 million women’s jobs were lost between the start of the pandemic and November 2020. Because much of women’s work requires physical contact with the public – restaurants, stores, childcare, healthcare settings – theirs were some of the first to go. Those who were able to keep their jobs were often frontline workers whose positions have put them in great danger; some 77% of hospital workers and 74% percent of school staff are women. Even then, the lack of childcare options left many women unable to return to their jobs. Having children does not have this effect for men. The rate of unemployment for Black and Latina women was higher before the virus, and now it is even worse.
The situation is more severe for women in other parts of the world. Shabnam Hashmi, a leading women’s activist from India, tells me that by April 2020 a staggering 39.5% of women there had lost their jobs. “Work from home is very taxing on women as their personal space has disappeared, and workload increased threefold,” Hashmi says. In Italy, existing inequalities have been amplified by the health emergency. Rizzitelli points out that women already face lower employment, poorer salaries and more precarious contracts, and are rarely employed in “safe” corporate roles; they have been the first to suffer the effects of the crisis. “Pre-existing economic, social, racial and gender inequalities have been accentuated, and all of this risks having longer-term consequences than the virus itself,” Rizzitelli says.
When women are put under greater financial pressure, their rights rapidly erode. With the economic crisis created by Covid, sex- and labour-trafficking are again on the rise. Young women who struggle to pay their rent are being preyed on by landlords, in a process known as “sextortion”.
I don’t think we can overstate the level of exhaustion, anxiety and fear that women are suffering from taking care of families, with no break or time for themselves. It’s a subtle form of madness. As women take care of the sick, the needy and the dying, who takes care of them? Colani Hlatjwako, an activist leader from the Kingdom of Eswatini, sums it up: “Social norms that put a heavy caregiving burden on women and girls remain likely to make their physical and mental health suffer.” These structures also impede access to education, damage livelihoods, and strip away sources of support.
Unesco estimates that upward of 11 million girls may not return to school once the Covid pandemic subsides. The Malala Fund estimates an even bigger number: 20 million. Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, from UN Women, says her organisation has been fighting for girls’ education since the Beijing UN women’s summit in 1995. “Girls make up the majority of the schoolchildren who are not going back,” she says. “We had been making progress – not perfect, but we were keeping them at school for longer. And now, to have these girls just dropping out in one year, is quite devastating.”
Of all these setbacks, this will be the most significant. When girls are educated, they know their rights, and what to demand. They have the possibility of getting jobs and taking care of their families. When they can’t access education, they become a financial strain to their families and are often forced into early marriages.
This has particular implications for female genital mutilation (FGM). Often, fathers will accept not subjecting their daughters to this process because their daughters can become breadwinners through being educated. If there is no education, then the traditional practices resume, so that daughters can be sold for dowries. As Agnes Pareyio, chairwoman of the Kenyan Anti-Female Genital Mutilation Board, tells me: “Covid closed our schools and brought our girls back home. No one knew what was going on in the houses. We know that if you educate a girl, FGM will not happen. And now, sadly the reverse is true.”
In the early months of the pandemic, I had a front-row seat to the situation of nurses in the US, most of whom are women. I worked with National Nurses United, the biggest and most radical nurses’ union, and interviewed many nurses working on the frontline. I watched as for months they worked gruelling 12-hour shifts filled with agonising choices and trauma, acting as midwives to death. On their short lunch breaks, they had to protest over their own lack of personal protective equipment, which put them in even greater danger. In the same way that no one thought what it would mean to lock women and children in houses with abusers, no one thought what it would be like to send nurses into an extremely contagious pandemic without proper PPE. In some US hospitals, nurses were wearing garbage bags instead of gowns, and reusing single-use masks many times. They were being forced to stay on the job even if they had fevers.
The treatment of nurses who were risking their lives to save ours was a shocking kind of violence and disrespect. But there are many other areas of work where women have been left unprotected, from the warehouse workers who are packing and shipping our goods, to women who work in poultry and meat plants who are crammed together in dangerous proximity and forced to stay on the job even when they are sick. One of the more stunning developments has been with “tipped” restaurant workers in the US, already allowed to be paid the shockingly low wage of $2.13 (£1.50) an hour, which has remained the same for the past 22 years. Not only has work declined, tips have also declined greatly for those women, and now a new degradation called “maskular harassment” has emerged, where male customers insist waitresses take off their masks so they can determine if and how much to tip them based on their looks.
Women farm workers in the US have seen their protections diminished while no one was looking. Mily Treviño-Sauceda, executive director of Alianza Nacional de Campesinas, tells me how pressures have increased on campesinas, or female farm workers: “There have been more incidents of pesticides poisonings, sexual abuse and heat stress issues, and there is less monitoring from governmental agencies or law enforcement due to Covid-19.”
Covid has revealed the fact that we live with two incompatible ideas when it comes to women. The first is that women are essential to every aspect of life and our survival as a species. The second is that women can easily be violated, sacrificed and erased. This is the duality that patriarchy has slashed into the fabric of existence, and that Covid has laid bare. If we are to continue as a species, this contradiction needs to be healed and made whole.
To be clear, the problem is not the lockdowns, but what the lockdowns, and the pandemic that required them, have made clear. Covid has revealed that patriarchy is alive and well; that it will reassert itself in times of crisis because it has never been truly deconstructed, and like an untreated virus it will return with a vengeance when the conditions are ripe.
The truth is that unless the culture changes, unless patriarchy is dismantled, we will forever be spinning our wheels. Coming out of Covid, we need to be bold, daring, outrageous and to imagine a more radical way of existing on the Earth. We need to continue to build and spread activist movements. We need progressive grassroots women and women of colour in positions of power. We need a global initiative on the scale of a Marshall Plan or larger, to deconstruct and exorcise patriarchy – which is the root of so many other forms of oppression, from imperialism to racism, from transphobia to the denigration of the Earth.
There would first be a public acknowledgment, and education, about the nature of patriarchy and an understanding that it is driving us to our end. There would be ongoing education, public forums and processes studying how patriarchy leads to various forms of oppression. Art would help expunge trauma, grief, aggression, sorrow and anger in the culture and help heal and make people whole. We would understand that a culture that has diabolical amnesia and refuses to address its past can only repeat its misfortunes and abuses. Community and religious centres would help members deal with trauma. We would study the high arts of listening and empathy. Reparations and apologies would be done in public forums and in private meetings. Learning the art of apology would be as important as prayer.
The feminist author Gerda Lerner wrote in 1986: “The system of patriarchy in a historic construct has a beginning and it will have an end. Its time seems to have nearly run its course. It no longer serves the needs of men and women, and its intractable linkage to militarism, hierarchy and racism has threatened the very existence of life on Earth.”
As powerful as patriarchy is, it’s just a story. As the post-pandemic era unfolds, can we imagine another system, one that is not based on hierarchy, violence, domination, colonialisation and occupation? Do we see the connection between the devaluing, harming and oppression of all women and the destruction of the Earth itself? What if we lived as if we were kin? What if we treated each person as sacred and essential to the unfolding story of humanity?
What if rather than exploiting, dominating and hurting women and girls during a crisis, we designed a world that valued them, educated them, paid them, listened to them, cared for them and centred them?“

Intern!Eren HC
warning(s): none
a/n: some Intern!Eren HC based off my CEO!Levi x secretary!reader post you can read here <- if you’d like :) I got one person requesting it in my inbox and that’s all I needed LOL :) I’d love to hear from you guys in my inbox! Hope you enjoy <3 I’m also gonna be posting more characters from this ~universe so feel free to send in thoughts or ideas !
Tumblr media Tumblr media
FIRST OFF HES SO STUPID LIKE PLS
I’m sorry but hear me out:
He’s very intelligent, right. He was well composed in his interview to be an intern, his resume was wonderfully organized full of all kinds of references and experience, he can hold a corporate conversation like nobody’s business, and he’s definitely got this natural charm working for him
But this man can’t work a photo copier for the life of him 😭
He doesn’t know the difference between business casual & smart casual (tbh who tf does)
He is always joking with boss Levi at the WORST times
He’s AWFUL at finding things pls
Someone will tell him to go grab more printer paper from the cabinets in the break room and he’ll just go and stand in there like 🧍
“Cabinets, cabinets... okayyy what one.”
^he definitely talks to himself like that ALL the time but more on that later
But anyways he’ll be searching through all the cabinets and just,,, not see it and he’d start freaking out like oh fuck they’re gonna fire me cause my dumbass can’t find the fuckin printer paper
He’d just come back like
“Um, uh, Miss Parker I couldn’t find the printer paper🧍.”
She’s an older lady in the advertising department of the company that just finds him so endearing pls
so she goes and just opens the first cupboard he looked in and hands it to him like “here sweetie, make sure to open your eyes next time.”
She’s so sweet but poor baby is so red and embarrassed 😭
It’s even worse when she asks him to load it and he just - breaks it
he accidentally pulled too hard trying to open the paper compartment and ripped one of the plastic front pieces off and is just holding it in his hand like 😰
He jus tapes it on w scotch tape and bolts out of the room once it’s loaded and then blames it on Jean when Levi asks why the hell the printer in the front office is broken
“Yeah no I have no idea sir, I think it might’ve been Jean, I mean I saw him in here last buttt, yeah no I really don’t know sorry!”
Queue Eren speed walking to the bathroom so he can collect himself abdjdjajdjf
But on the note of breaking things it’s totally happened more than once
I STRONGLY HC this mf as being clumsy a lil like he just never fully got used to his height after he had his growth spurt
So he has a habit of tripping over himself or hitting his head on cabinets and such
This also means long arms accidentally knocking these over 😭
His first day he reached across his lil intern desk adjacent to Jeans to answer the phone and just completely knocked off his stapler and it kinda came apart
So once he was done with the call he was like no biggie I can fix this :)
And then he spent the next 20 minutes trying to figure out how the hell to put it back together
Levi happened upon him at his desk with google up on his computer, “how to put together stapler”, and he was fiddling with it in his lap and Levi was just 🤨
Eren was so embarrassed and went beet red
But as soon as Jean started chuckling Levi was like “well help him? I’d rather not have a broken stapler and besides, it’d give you two idiots something to do.”
So of course jean was like ok 🙄 but now him and eren have been arguing and BOTH been trying to fix it for another 10 minutes
Levi comes over to check on them and he’s so disappointed he’s just like “give me the fucking stapler” and puts the pieces back together and hands it to eren like 😐.
But yeah, Eren has a tendency to break things LOL
Ok back to mans talking to himself
He can be forgetful when it comes to tasks he needs to do so you’ll often find him walking around the office muttering things to himself like “phone, phone. Listen to the voicemail on the phone.”
And sometimes he’ll sing it to himself instead of speaking it cause it he finds it keeps him entertained 🥺🤲🏼
He also has a bad habit of just humming at his desk period
Jean absolutely hates it, especially when the songs Eren’s humming get stuck in Jeans head LMAO
Levi implied he was proud of Erens work ~once and he almost cried, he had to excuse himself and Miss Parker thought he was gonna throw up
One time Levi joked about long hair not being dress code and immediately had to take it back before Eren and Jean had a crisis at their desk
But even with his little quirks and shenanigans he takes his internship very seriously and is highly knowledgeable about the core responsibilities of the job, which is definitely a reason Levi accepted his application in the first place
Eren is so punctual it’s insane, he hasn’t missed a single day at his internship and has never been more than a minute late
And he’s so cute always asking Levi what he could do better at the end of his day or if there’s anything else he needs from him
At some point Levi had to ask him to only ask it once a week cause he has other things to worry about too 😭
But Levi did admire his determination to improve
Eren may be a little silly but he’ll be damned if he’s gonna lose this internship <3

Eeeeek okok so this is officially a part of my CEO!levi universe LMAO any work that is based in this will be tagged appropriately! I’m also thinking of posting a pt.2 to this with reader 😏! Ok but Peter Maximoff ends up saving Nina and Magda but like gets hit with the arrow in a leg or whatever (don’t ask me how ok) and Magda takes one look at this dude in his like early 20s and promptly adopts him lmao. Erik tried to reason with her but Magda just went, “Hes my son now” so Erik gave up and accepted it.
So Peter wakes up on Eriks couch while Eriks away or whatever and Magda is being so,, motherly,, towards him. And he’s sooo fucking confused. He’s like, “DOES SHE KNOW IM ERIKS SON” but Erik comes back home and thanks Peter and Peters like, “oh my god do they know” so he’s panicking the entire time also he got hit with an arrow so he’s bed rest for rn.
Erik and Magda meanwhile have no fucking clue they’ve actually just adopted Eriks flesh and blood son and once Peter finds this out he’s just like, “???????????”
And Peters just sitting there on the couch and Nina takes one look at him and claims him as her big brother and Magda is so proud in the background and Erik is just like,,, “there’s two of them oh no” because Nina and Magda are now teaming up to adopt Peter and he is just,,, long suffering,,,
Peters like, “I,, already have a mom” and Magda is like, “now you have two”
Peter reveals his name is Pietro and that he goes by Peter cause reasons and Magda is like, “Erik said he would have liked to name his son Pietro should he ever have one and guess what? Now he does. It’s all coming together”
They all bond as Peter recovers and Peter sends word back to like Charles or whatever cause Charles sent him and Charles is just so confused because Peter is like, “imma stay here awhile”
Ninas like, “I gotta show you my friends” and Peters like, “oh ok so I’m meeting a bunch of school children of something” but Nina brings him out back and there’s just a bunch of fucking deer everywhere and he is So Confused.
Erik sings Peter the lullaby that was passed down from his parents to him and Peter is like, “oh my god” because he’s literally just having an ongoing crisis of, “how do you tell a man who thinks of you as his son and is passing down family knowledge to you that you are actually his biological son HOW DO YOU-“
Awhile after bonding it just kinda slips out that Peter is actually Eriks son but it causes a giant confused mess because Erik literally just responds, “yeah I know” and Peters like, “no I mean like,,, biologically” and Eriks just like, “wait what” because he went through this whole chosen family crisis and Peters just there like, “yeah I’m your bio kid surprise!” And he’s having a fucking aneurysm
Magdas only response is, “ah good that makes paperwork much easier” because she’s been trying to find out how to legally adopt a 20 something year old man who has a living parent already and this news has solved all her problems
Magda and Nina are unfazed like they do not give a single fuck because they’re both badasses
At some point Charles shows up because Peters been missing awhile and he’s concerned and he just finds them having a nice family dinner
He is promptly invited by Magda to the table and the cycle starts all over again
Magda is like, “you’re my second husband now” and Eriks like, “HOW DID SHE FIND OUT I USED TO DATE CHARLES”
She had no fucking clue he dated Charles but once she finds out she kisses both of them and goes to make a snack or something and Charles and Erik are just,,, shocked,,,
So now OT3 is happening and Peter is sitting there like, “holy fuck” while Nina chats happily to her deer friend that she has two dads now
And Raven shows up and Nina looks at her and yells, “auntie!!’ And Ravens like, “?!?!?!?!!?!?” And then she sees Magda kiss Charles and she’s like, “HOW LONG WAS I GONE-“
Hank shows up and now an uncle is in the fray
Multiverse happens and Wanda shows up with Vision and Tommy and Billy and Magda has officially rubbed off on Peter because he takes one look at this shit show and says, “I’m an uncle now hell yeah” and just goes with it
Wanda is confused.
Lorna shows up one day and has metal powers on full display and Raven looks at Erik and is just like, “HOW MANY KIDS DO YOU HAVE-“
And so the cycle continues.
