HOWDY EVERYONE- so excited to FINALLY be able to show off my piece for this year's Bumbleby Big Bang!
Unfortunately no accompanying story as of yet- but I really hope you guys get to read it someday! The premise involves Yang cursed to be trapped inside a sword, which was an idea I KNEW I had to make move.
Details and development stuff under the cut!
Lots of fun collaboration with the author, Celeste! We worked together to find the look-of-picture, Blake's outfit, how the Grimm look, the style of the sword, the whole shabang! I'm really happy with how it all turned out!
When I first saw all the prompts, even before claims opened, I got to work on a handful of exploration pieces based on some of the summaries, to decide which of the stories I was interested in would be the best fit. Here's the initial idea for this one I put together over a lunch break:
Tumblr media
After showing Celeste, we got to work finding the look we wanted! Went back and forth a bit and found this great look for Blake! Also shoutout to Pinterest boards for visdev inspiration I love you Pinterest boards.
Tumblr media
Just about everything stayed to final anim, with the simplification of getting rid of that purple cloth hanging from her belt, (since I already had the rope ends to think about working with), and the light purple strap across the chest, since leaving it out would simplify the linework on her chest.
The sword also went through a bit of change! Celeste had the idea of Yang making the sword catch on fire, which I LOVED. I went with a split design so we can see the fire more clearly start from the hilt and grow to cover the whole blade.
Tumblr media
And from there we brainstormed animation ideas! I went all over Youtube for video reference of sword work (that would be complex enough to be interesting, but short enough to be manageable). I found something we liked from Motion Actor Inc., a channel I've used LOTS for both personal and professional work (I work in 3D Animation, for those who don't know). I edited this together, to see the action from multiple places at once, which gave me the idea for that camera move that's in the final anim!
Tumblr media
Now for the fun part! Make that badboy MOVE. For the cam turn, the first frame she's in the air I'm referencing the top left video, and the frame she lands I'm referencing the bottom left one. While she's airborne I'm just inbetweening that! No reference for the Grimm, just wanted it responding to her attacks, but I end up tweaking the roughs later on to make the block feel stronger.
Tumblr media
Then from there we had to actually figure out Grimm designs! Nimona had just released, and Celeste and I loved it, so she asked if I could take some inspiration from Nimona's shadow form! GLADLY. Here's what I came up with!
Tumblr media
I was going between how the movies and comic designed Nimona, really loving the almost liquid shadow of the movie, but also how the comics had this broken up/held together rougher form. Celeste liked the second to last one the best! The original plan was to have it leave a wispy shadow trail like the concept art, but to simplify the animation we left it solid instead!
Next up is tiedown! Basically just getting the roughs more on-model, so the lineart comes out nice and clean. I've also transferred the new Grimm design to the base from earlier, and fire's also outlined orange so it reads clearer. (SPOILER- if you look REAL close here, you can see Yang visible in the fire! I liked the idea of Blake's slash also doubling as Yang throwing a punch. The idea is in the concept art earlier but now it's working with the action.)
Tumblr media
Next step- final look of picture!! I asked Celeste for sources of inspiration to draw from when thinking about environment design, and we got Nimona, She-Ra, and Owl House! Used each of those as springboards for shading style, colour palettes, and how the fire would look!
Tumblr media
From there, we kept the straight trees/bush/lake/foreground greenery from the first one, the blues from the second, and the fire from the third!
Tumblr media
Once I had this frame, it was a matter of working backwards and making the background work pre-camera turn (which was ABSOLUTELY the most challenging part of this process). Learned a lot doing this! Procreate isn't quite equipped to make something like this efficient, but I'm pleased to say that Dreams would make something like this easier in the future (keyframing objects instead of hand-drawing/spacing duplicates by hand, for example).
From then on it was just colouring the lineart, adding shading, and finishing up the background! Beginning-to-end this whole process was beginning of July to end of October!
I had an absolute BLAST putting all this together. Here's to next year where I find a way to do something even more ridiculously complicated!! It's fun!!!

I have a question
Like Crazy is probably the most queercoded in Jimins songs, right after Filter.
But the song also begins with the pronoun "She's saying Baby come and follow me"
Some fans on Twitter are saying this is a reference to a gf or something.
Whats your take on this?
Hi! Thanks for your ask. Sorry for the delay in replying! And to start, I think it's fairly clear that I don't think Jimin is straight, in my opinion, based off my views. But in that same vein, I think he also likes women. I mean, he has shared previous school crushes on a girl with us. So a "she" in the lyrics of a love song, wouldn't ever really throw me off personally. But that's just me. On top of that, Jimin did share his notes of his lyric writing process for his songs on FACE. And we can see for Like Crazy, his original planned lyrics said "baby" in place of "she." So that probably got changed for a better flow, either he did that himself, or it was suggested to him by RM, Pdogg or one of the other people who helped and gave input to the song. Either way, I don't think it's indicative of a girlfriend or an ex girlfriend in anything factual. But everyone can think what they will and have their own opinions of it for sure.
Tumblr media
Now, for me, honestly there is a lot of queer coding through this whole MV and through subsequent performances/choreo/promotions for this song as well. Lyric breakdown can be found here before we go further:
Music Video:
youtube
And my first post about Like Crazy, where I talk about the song as a whole, what I think it's about AND touch on the queerness of Jimins gender expression throughout the MV:
To expand upon that, the choreo is a huge part of that and this person did a pretty good job breaking that down and sharing their theory over the dance too.
Tumblr media
On top of in the extra content for FACE, similar references get lowkey pointed out in the FACE Playlist video, both in the LC MV and the Playlist video. Which you can watch here
youtube
During the Set Me Free portion, things line up very similarly to Freddie's "I want to break free" video, where he cross dresses. And for those who don't know, he fairly openly queer as an artist. He was involved with both men and women regardless of never openly stating or confirming his sexuality (that I know of). In the video, we also see Jimin looking through vinyls, including Queen and Nirvana. AND in the LC MV set, we see on the wall writing that says "Set Me Free" "Moon" "Wake" among others AND a Queen sticker too.
Tumblr media
I want to break free video:
youtube
He talks and makes references to accepting both sides of himself a lot. It's in his stylistic choices, his art, how he expresses himself. And it's been a repeated theme for AWHILE now and if you aren't seeing it... it's because you don't want to
Tumblr media
To get deeper into it, some of the historic queer imagery and iconography Jimin used in this MV specifically and just in FACE promotions in general... would include Philip Johnson, the architect of the Glass House, openly gay and where the term "the glass closet" was coined from. A photo of his is once again in the FACE Playlist video.
Tumblr media
Robert Mapplethorpe, his portrait on the jeans Jimin wore through the MV and several images in his photobook I believe too. A photographer specializing in male and female nude works, among other things. Including his most controversial work being his documentation of the gay male BDSM subculture scene.
Tumblr media
In the photobook, he is pictured several times in an outfit where he is wearing Jean Paul Gaultier y/series Bodymorph jeans. Specifically he is wearing the "woman" set. The designer Specifically described this series as exploring and playing with the concepts of gender, he liked the idea of there being a mens set, and a womens set and them being able to overlap each other. The bodymorph clothing sets have naked human body prints on them. So!Yoon who recently worked with and is friends with RM (if not friendly with the other members too) also recently wore these in her album release as well. You can interpret him wearing these as you choose of course. I personally think it's speaks fairly clearly to the same things I was talking about above, with him referencing all things gender and how he is leaning into the more typical feminine iconography here with these pants for his softer side of the photoshoot for his album.
Tumblr media
I think looking at the designs for both sets also makes it more clear which ahem, set, Jimin is wearing too. Lol and how some of the models are mixing the sets (including So!Yoon wearing the women's set as well in a diff color)
Tumblr media
And lastly, while it might not have to do with the album directly, it does involve Jimin and is worth mentioning here as it was lowkey part of album promotions. During the first ever performance aired of Like Crazy on the Jimin Fallon show, Jimin worked with 8 backup dancers and one of them was nonbinary and shared their experience and how comfortable, welcoming, non judged and appreciated Jimin and staff made them feel the whole time. How they got to just be who they were the whole time. It speaks the type of environment Jimin cultivates around himself all the time.
Tumblr media
Performance video:
youtube
And during the teaser that was shared of Jimin working on his album with Pdogg and others. They talked about how for 10 months, Jimin basically lived in Pdoggs house. They all just lived together and ate, slept, breathed this album. Lol and in the hallway of Pdogg's house, we see that he has a Stonewall rainbow art piece. Which if that is what that is, is very special to have the education over Stonewall and the support of for that in your home in Korea. I won't speak to it either way, if that is what it is, great. If it's not. I'm just going to enjoy a rainbow in the same shot as Jimin regardless. Lol
Tumblr media
Teaser video:
youtube
At this point, there is deep references to historic queer iconography in so much of Jimins art, it's fair to say we aren't guessing anymore. He is as out as he can be without explicitly saying anything. For me personally at least. And no one is owed an explicit coming out from anyone for any reason. If you listen to what he says, what he sings about, what he photographs, what he dances, what he shares with us? It's all right there too see. So plainly. Queer people have always had to talk and listen between the lines. It's there if you want to see it. And it's fair for queer armys and queer people to react and talk about the continuous use of queer icons and imagery Jimin has used over the years. It's not assuming anything. It's just listening to what he is telling us and sharing.
Thank you for the ask. And thanks to anyone who read the whole thing. 💜

Diverse Stardew Valley 4.0 Sneak Peak!
Hey everyone! DSV 4.0 is getting close to being done, so I thought I’d show off some of the cool stuff that’s gonna be included! 😊 I’ve also been sharing little snippets in the DSV Discord server recently, so if you’re not already a member, check our website for the link.
It’s pretty long and has a lot of images, so click through to see them!
The big news is that DSV 4.0 will move back to an all-in-one download (and will also be hosted on Nexus again) with a SMAPI component, DSV Core, which will consolidate all of the config options for more convenience. DSV Core is the hard work of KediDili from a concept originally by Nuztalgia!
It’ll also mean that other mods will be able to read your DSV config choices, which opens up a lot of potential for compatibility! Platonic Partners and Friendships users may be familiar with how this works, since PPAF has a similar feature and DSV is able to automatically provide compat depending on your PPAF config.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[image id: two screenshots from DSV Core showing a selection of configuration options. The first is a table of contents and the second shows some of the options available in the Global Options page.]
Options will be divided into different pages so that it’s not an overwhelming list of choices, and DSV Core will also automatically disable compatibility options for other mods if you don’t have that mod installed, so it’ll reduce some of the option clutter. We’ve also future-proofed the config so that you also won’t need to redo your config settings when we add more options in the future and added a function to automatically fix common typos in manually-edited config.jsons!
Tumblr media
[image id: a screenshot showing DSV Core’s page of Compatibility options.]
As you can see in the screenshot above, 4.0 will also add dialogue for many characters related to DSV’s variants! This feature has been much requested and a lot of people have contributed dialogue, so thank you to everyone who wrote some lines for us 💖 If you’re interested in helping out with dialogue as well, feel free to join the DSV server and chat to us about it!
Another major content update will be DSV’s swimsuits! We’ve updated all of the swimsuits to have fresh new designs, and there’ll be a new option for every character with a beach swimsuit in the vanilla game to use either the vanilla design (with some minor tweaks to clean up art issues & match DSV’s bases) or the DSV design.
Tumblr media
[image id: a selection of portraits from DSV showing the characters’ vanilla variants wearing the DSV Style swimsuits]
Tumblr media
[image id: a selection of portraits and sprites from DSV showing the characters’ vanilla variants in a before and after of the default swimsuits on the left versus the updated Vanilla Style swimsuits on the right.]
Other stuff being included is a skintone saturation boost for modded Harvey and Black Emily and Haley, after feedback from our sensitivity checkers...
Tumblr media
[image id: a before and after of DSV’s modded Harvey and Black Emily & Haley showing the difference in skintones.]
...new & updated outfits for some characters (Emily’s outfits are by Meowpix while Sebastian’s ao dai is by Elaho)...
Tumblr media
[image id: a selection of portraits from DSV showing updated outfits for Abigail, Sebastian, and Emily.]
...compatibility with Life Cycle and other mods...
Tumblr media
[image id: portraits for DSV’s modded Caroline, Emily, Kent, and Demetrius showing new formalwear.]
...options for small immersive features...
Tumblr media
[image id: portraits for DSV’s modded and vanilla Abigail wearing a variety of goth makeup looks.]
...and saving the best for last, DSV’s best girl Marigold will be making a return with updated art! She’ll be a non-friendable NPC and will require Sprites in Detail as a temporary measure until SDV 1.6 is released, but she’ll also have more dialogue, including dialogue from Linus about her, and new animations 🐕‍🦺
Tumblr media
[image id: a screenshot of Linus’s tent showing his service dog Marigold with larger updated sprites.]
Thanks to everyone that’s supported us and I hope you’re all hyped for DSV 4.0! 💖

Vel and Ven Outfit Designs
so I ended up using @veljolie 's art as more of a reference :'D i couldnt make the outfits slay as hard for some reason. I tried making some designs of how i think their outfits would go (near the bottom+ explanation of why i am unsatisfied with my designs) based off their beautiful designs (pictured below)
Tumblr media
I think i struggled a lot with how to draw the shows and make the contrast without making it too bright 😭
Here are my designs:
For vel: I decided to keep the star patterns and turn the lightning bolt into a skirt opening hut i dont think it turned out that decent. I also wasnt super satisfied with the colors because i couldnt get as much as a pop as the reference was. I did add a few features though, such as an extra hair strand or removing her ponytail so it looks more like a treble clef, since i wanted to represent that shes the melody and treble clef(music jargon for soprano/ higher notes) usually contains the melody. I hope it shows up more??? ALSO i really love the concept of stars and lightning bolts but i ended up making it similar to the original in the movie so i was still more or less unsatisfied. I also gave her a little ribbon bracelet instead of a bangle but im not entirely sure on pursuing that design choice. Overall I just feel that its lacking something with contrast and originality, despite me trying with different colors, though i feel more drawn to the blue version.
Tumblr media
For Ven: with his outfit redesign, i used the positioning and patterns of @veljolie 's design, but again i couldnt make the pattern pop that much which was saddening. What I do like about my veneer design though is that its less based off the movie and more original, despite still sharing features with the beta designs of veneer. I wanted to create an idea that he had wings, so i attached a boa to his shoulder pads and gloves, so it could allude to wings. I feel like its still lacking though, and the inly reason i was slightly more satisfied was because it looked less like the movie, but despite that, i still heavily relied on the beta outfits to create this so again, not sure how to feel about it.

I like behind-the-scenes character trivia, so here is a copypasted compilation of that from Precure wiki, and also some bits I was able to find on Pixiv. The Pixiv stuff is based on google translate and my own faulty Japanese so take them with a grain of salt (and I’m not fact checking any of this anyway).
Cure Black
Cure Black's outfit was upgraded in Max Heart due to parental concerns about how her previous outfit might have been too revealing for children.
Nagisa's name was originally going to be Kuni (クニ), as revealed in the concept art book.
Yes! Precure 5
There were initial plans to have all five Cures be in a student council (with Nozomi as the president), but it was scrapped due to not wanting everyone to be on the side of power. (from Pixiv)
They were supposed to appear in the Healin’ Good anime first before going to the Tokyo trip in the movie together, but this was scrapped due to covid. (from Pixiv)
Milky Rose
According to an interview with the producer of the Yes! 5 series (Washio Takashi), he didn't expect the series to last for two years and also never meant to make Milk have a human alias. However, when the production of the sequel started, he wanted to make a new character become a Pretty Cure who would have been familiar with the Cures from the start and eventually chose Milk.
Cure Passion
In the book "Drawing Fantastic Female Fighters", it’s revealed that she was originally going to have a similar look to Cure Peach, save for an increase in hair volume until her costume was changed to look like armor to help her stand out.
Additionally, in early stages, animators played around with things like the position of the ribbon and different headband shapes.
The same book also revealed two things regarding Setsuna as Eas:
The diamond-like cross on the back of her outfit represented the burden she bore before her defection.
Her original hairstyle lacked a headband and looked a bit too much like bedhead. But a hairstyle borrowed from a newscaster didn't appeal to Toei's target demographic.
Cure Blossom / Cure Flower
According to an issue of Drawing Fantastic Female Fighters, Cure Flower's design is based off how the staff imagined a grown-up Cure Blossom.
Cure Marine
According to character designer Umakoshi Yoshihiko, she was originally to have an updo hairstyle as Cure Marine
Cure Rhythm
In prototype concept art, Cure Rhythm was originally going to be a purple Cure.
Cure Happy
Miyuki was originally planned to be in cheerleading club. (from Pixiv)
Cure March
Her theme colour was originally planned to be purple, but was changed so that the characters would form a bright rainbow colour when lined up. (from Pixiv)
Cure Diamond
In the Official Complete Book of Doki Doki! Pretty Cure, it was revealed that Rikka does not have romantic feelings towards Ira, though there were initially plans to develop it. "On romantic feelings: I don't feel that Rikka has romantic feelings toward Ira, though there were plans to develop it. But that would be overdoing it for Pretty Cure."
Instead, it was confirmed by the director of Doki Doki! after the finale aired that Diamond was in love romantically with Heart, in turn how she freed herself after becoming frozen by her own attack is considered as a plot hole. Therefore, in theory Diamond sacrificed herself for Heart.
Cure Rosetta
Alice was initially planned to have an older brother named Hiromichi, who was the former student council president of Oogai Middle School and was the one who led Mana to become president herself. He was eventually cut due to the idea of Mana having a crush on him, which went against her "charity" character idea. This is mentioned in the Official Complete Book of Doki Doki! Pretty Cure.
Cure Sword
She was originally going to join the team halfway through the series, but the idea was scrapped due to her appearance in New Stage 2.
DokiDoki was supposed to be a 3-person team, with Sword joining as the mid-season Cure. When her joining was pushed to episode 6, a lot of plot elements had to be changed, such as Sword originally having a lot of senpai Precure from Trump Kingdom. (from Pixiv)
Cure Lovely
According to her official TV Asahi profile, she had made 100 friends during elementary school.
Her mother was planned to have an incurable disease, with the end series conflict being that Megumi has to choose between world peace and curing her mother, but it was scrapped due to being too heavy. (from Pixiv)
Cure Princess
Was originally going to be named Cure Brave (from Pixiv)
Cure Honey
Was originally going to be named Cure Tender, which later was reused for Iona’s sister (from Pixiv)
She was planned to have a plotline about some unspecified insecurity, but it was removed because her character turned out to be too mature for that to fit. (from Pixiv)
Cure Fortune
Was originally going to be named Cure Mercy (from Pixiv)
Her original design looked too much like an office lady, but elements of it (like the pencil skirt) were reused for Cure Tender (from Pixiv)
Cure Echo
She had her own 10th anniversary greeting storyboarded, but it wasn’t animated due to her position as a special character (from Pixiv)
Cure Twinkle
During early development, her transformation background color was yellow instead of purple.
Cure Miracle
Mirai was originally going to be revealed to have Magic World ancestry, but this concept was eventually scrapped by writers who wanted her to be the more normal member of the Mahou Tsukai team, making her the only of the main Mahou Tsukai! Cures not to come from the Magic World.
A handsome boy who was popular among girls was supposed to be Mirai’s classmate, and a story line where Mirai and Riko aren’t swayed by him was planned. (from Pixiv)
Cure Magical
During the production of Mahou Tsukai, Riko was originally going to have a rival named Shiina Ryuuichi, who was scrapped and ended up being a background character instead.
Cure Mofurun
According to an interview with movie director Tanaka Yuta, most of the staff of Mahou Tsukai Pretty Cure! originally thought of Mofurun as genderless. She became a girl through the development of the series and the characters - as a fact file states, they even wanted to include a line about Mofurun saying that she is “a girl, mofu!”, but did not get the chance to.
The fact file includes description of original plans for Mirai to have thought of Mofurun as a boy in her childhood, but Mofurun deciding otherwise after she became alive and telling her so in the above line.
A rough sketch by Miyamoto Emiko reveals that Mofurun was originally going to wear an overall-like garment.
Cure Chocolat
Early character exploration art by Ino Marie, the character designer, shows her to be scared of bugs and ghosts.
Cure Yell
According to an interview with Kawamura, the character designer, in the January 2019 issue of the Japanese magazine Animage, the tragedy version of Hana from the future where George and Hugtan came from had never transferred schools. Because she never met Saaya or Homare and was stuck in such a hostile environment, Hana saw no reason to better herself at all.
According to staff member Tsubota Fumi, she based Hana's personality on her voice actor, and she even asked Hikisaka Rie about Hana's feelings for George, adding that it was the beginning of budding feelings. She also asked Rie about whether Hana would like Amano Hinase back, but Rie said that it would be impossible for Hana who prefers men that are older and more mature than him.
Cure Ange
According to an interview with Kawamura, one of the writers, in the January 2019 issue of the Japanese magazine Animage, the version of Saaya from the future where George and Hugtan came from never got to pursue her ambition as a doctor as she would be pressured by the high expectations set by her mother.
Cure Etoile
According to an interview with Kawamura, one of the writers, in the January 2019 issue of the Japanese magazine Animage, the version of Homare from the future where George and Hugtan came from is indicated that she would've remained a delinquent or worse after succumbing to the despair caused by her failed skating experience.
The original concept design for Homare had her wear pigtails in civilian form before being changed into her bob cut. Additionally her near final concept design was meant to don pigtails instead of the side tail hairstyle.
Cure Macherie
According to an interview with Kawamura, one of the writers, in the January 2019 issue of the Japanese magazine Animage, the version of Emiru from the future where George and Hugtan came from would never achieve her dream of becoming a guitarist and singer, because she and her elder brother, Masato would still be living under the oppressive mentality of their grandfather.
Emiru was originally going to be named "Utau", but the staff thought it sounded too old fashioned.
Cure Star
According to head writer Murayama Isao, a producer from ABC suggested the name "Akari" as an alternative to Hikaru, which he viewed as "too strong." Murayama thought "Akari" would be interesting since the character would share a name with the producer, Yanagawa Akari, but Hikaru was ultimately chosen.
Hikaru originally had glasses (from Pixiv)
Cure Milky
Although she has claimed to be an adult, and is considered one on her home planet, her voice actress stated in an interview that in terms of her character's actual maturity level, “It was a lie.”
In the January 2020 special issue of Animage, primarily focusing on Star☆Twinkle Pretty Cure, series composition Murayama Isao stated that Lala's name was chosen because it felt right and "alien-like."
Cure Soleil
According to head writer Murayama Isao, Elena was originally going to be the student council president. However, as "pink and purple are more popular from a business standpoint," he was asked to keep the colors pink and purple as components "certain to mesh well," meaning Hikaru and Madoka were to be interconnected as opposing forces. As a result, Madoka became the president instead.
In contrast to Hikaru and Madoka, Lala and Elena were given more leeway when creating their characters, which is why the latter has a big family and a foreigner for a father. In terms of audience perception, Murayama admitted Elena was the most challenging as he predicted Lala would be perceived well for being an alien. That's why he and producer Yanagawa Akari were happy to hear that Elena's popularity grew as the series progressed.
When coming up with Cure Soleil's name, Murayama noted that the word "Elena" first came to mind. However, since Elena is a normal name for girls, it would have been like naming her "Cure Hanako," so they used Elena for her civilian name instead.
Cure Selene
According to the January 2020 special issue of Animage, primarily focusing on Star☆Twinkle Pretty Cure, series composition Murayama Isao was the one who came up with the name "Madoka," and that it would be written with the kanji "円" which indicates a circle, or full moon in this context.
Cure Cosmo
Murayama noted that Yuni's phantom thief element was primarily pushed by the female staff of the project. Producer Yanagawa Akari admitted to this, as she grew up watching anime where a girl transforms into a phantom thief, those who have a stylish image such as Mine Fujiko from "Lupin III." She wanted to create an image of a "cool, independent woman" in Yuni.
According to the Kamikita twins, who draw the Pretty Cure manga, Yuni grows up to be 175cm during the 15 years time skip.
Cure Grace
According to an interview from Animage 2021, Ikeda confirmed that Nodoka had been ill for five years until the middle of her first middle school year.
Revealed in the Official Complete Book, Cure Grace was the hardest character for Yamaoka Naoko to design, as she had revised her design 13 times.
Cure Sparkle
According to an interview in the magazine Animage, Hinata's character development was affected because of the hiatus the season had to take due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In fact, there was going to be a Hinata fashion episode, but it never made the cut.
Furthermore, as mentioned in the Official Complete Book, Hinata's mother was meant to appear in the fashion episode as well as the Christmas episode.
Cure Summer
An interview from Animage revealed that Manatsu's theme color was always meant to be rainbow with white from the start because the Producer wanted Manatsu to stand out even amongst all the Pretty Cure.
In the Animage January 2022 issue, it was revealed that Manatsu's name was originally going to be Natsu, then Natsuki, followed by Natsumi before the staff finally settled on Manatsu.
Nakatani Yukiko revealed that Manatsu was not only designed with her origin in mind, but also as if she was a protagonist for a boy's series.
Cure Coral
An interview from Animage revealed that Sango's personality is a bit toned down compared to the other girls, but she is also the closest to the audience because she is the normal one. She has a role in being an audience surrogate, but her personal charm points will also be highlighted throughout the show.
In the Animage January 2022 issue, it was revealed that the kanji for "Suzu" in Sango's surname was originally going to be 鈴, as it looked cute and Sango as a character loves cute things. However, the staff changed it to 涼 because they wanted to match the show's ocean theme and give her a name with a water radical.
The same 2022 issue also revealed that Sango was written to be a city girl that Manatsu can look up to, which contributes to her fashionable personality.
Nakatani Yukiko also admitted that she gave Coral many hearts because she's the "leader of cute". She also looked at fashion magazines for teenagers to get inspiration for Sango's civilian design.
Cure Papaya
In the Animage January 2022 issue, it was revealed that Minori's surname "Ichinose" was chosen due to it sounding girly.
More importantly, when the staff were selecting the Japanese pronunciation of Papaya between パパイヤ or パパイア, they chose the latter option as the former sounded like "Papa iya!" which means "I hate my father!" in Japanese.
This issue also revealed that her signature eye beam attack was not created until after the production of the Tropical-Rouge! short movie.
The staff had initially considered keeping her glasses even when she transformed into Papaya, before eventually abandoning the idea.
Cure Flamingo
An interview from Animage revealed that Asuka's Cure name was going to be either Cure Phoenix or Cure Volcano.
Cure La Mer
An interview from Animage revealed that in the first draft of the story, Laura had a more typical role and was a gentle girl to tone down Manatsu's outlandishness. But Tsuchida Yutaka was concerned that she was going to get completely overshadowed by the other girls, so they changed her into a character with a strong personality and with a big presence in the story.
In the Animage January 2022 issue, it was revealed that "La Mer" was Laura's Cure name before it also became her surname, but it was added because trying to be "Laura Hyginus" would've been difficult to pronounce once she started attending school.
The same issue also revealed that La Mer's nails were originally going to be multi-colored, but the staff eventually scrapped the idea as the end result did not satisfy them.
It was also revealed that Laura's role as the queen candidate is intentional. Tsuchida Yutaka believed the idea of becoming a queen by succession is a similar message to becoming a princess by falling in love with a prince, as it relies too much on someone else.
Cure Precious
In Oops! All PreCure Animage interview, Cure Precious' name comes from Yui's own appreciation for food.
During the Delicious Party Kanshasai, Hishikawa Hana (Yui’s VA) said that Yui's ideal romantic partner is somebody that loves cooking and making food together with her.
Cure Spicy
In the Oops! All PreCure Animage interview, Cure Spicy was chosen as Kokone's alter ego name as it sounded cool.
In the same interview, Kokone's first name was originally going to be either Tsutsumi or Hasami to match her sandwich theme.
Yufu Kyouko (character designer) also remarked in the interview that Cure Spicy's circular braid is meant to resemble a donut.
During the Delicious Party Kanshasai, Shimizu Risa (Kokone’s VA) said that Kokone's ideal romantic partner for a date is somebody she can have a calm conversation and exchange books with. Pam-Pam's voice actor, Hioka Natsumi also pretended to be Kokone's date in the same scenario.
Cure Yum-Yum
In the Oops! All PreCure Animage interview, Cure Yum-Yum was originally going to be named "Cure Yummy", but was changed to make her sound cuter. Mem-Mem was chosen to be her partner to match both her Chinese motif and the food "ramen".
In the same interview, Yufu Kyouko originally drew Cure Yum-Yum wearing a Chinese hat in her first draft design.
During the Delicious Party Kanshasai, Iguchi Yuka (Ran’s VA) said that Ran's ideal romantic partner is someone she can go on adventures with.
Cure Finale
As stated in the Oops! All PreCure Animage interview, Cure Finale was originally going to be called "Cure Gorgeous" but her name was changed to match her dessert motif.
Yufu Kyouko also stated in the same interview that she wanted Finale to look like a fighting princess.
During the Kanshasai, Kayano Ai (Amane’s VA) said that Amane's ideal romantic partner is someone she can train martial arts with and watch sunsets afterwards.

DAI Companion Styles: Sera
Dragon Age Companion Styles series
The fashion in the Dragon Age universe (in keeping with the overall aesthetics of the games) has undergone an interesting kind of evolution over the course of the three games, various side media, and fourteen real-world years this franchise has been around. And disjointed as some of it may be, it’s something that interests me, both in terms of its real-world influences and in terms of the in-universe implications for worldbuilding and characters. It’s an element for which I would love to see even more discussion and analysis, I thought it would be fun to dive into it by taking a look at the different base outfits companions wear in Inquisition, and talking about how they fit with the characters and the world they inhabit. I don't know how many of these I will end up doing, but I'd like to do some and I think it will be fun.
Disclaimer: I am not a fashion expert, dress historian, or professional designer! I'm just a gamer who likes to sew and has a casual interest in historical fashion, and a great interest in fantasy worldbuilding and the implications thereof, and that's where I'm coming from on these posts. I'd also love to hear thoughts from fans who have a more in-depth background in historical dress, textiles, etc. Also I'm going to be talking about clothing and not armor because I know a lot less about armor.
Tumblr media
I’m going to start with Sera, of course, because it's me. ;)
Tumblr media
So I've mentioned before that I really like the concept of Sera's outfit. The upper silhouette in particular seems directly drawn from the Fereldan commoner fashions of Dragon Age: Origins, the styles of Sera's youth in Denerim. For example, here's Kaitlyn in Origins, wearing some typical commoner clothing:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Note the plaid, the bare shoulders, the underarm straps (which have always looked incredibly uncomfortable to me)! We see several variations on this style in Origins, including leather vests and even some floral fabrics, but the off-the-shoulder look is nearly ubiquitous on commoner women:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Noble-born women in Origins seem to forego the cold shoulders, but we still see similar shapes in the upper silhouette, including those dang shoulder straps that go under the arms:
Tumblr media
The commoner styles of Ferelden in 9:30 Dragon even reappear a decade later in Inquisition! Which doesn’t surprise me much, as trends move a lot more slowly for rural commoners than for wealthy aristocrats.
Tumblr media
We even have the weird leather neckerchief thing, a staple of the early 9:30s in Ferelden (and convenient way to hide the neck seams on those character models)! Like the collars in Origins, Sera's does not tie at the back, and a close-up view of hers reveals side seams and presumably a closure of some sort.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So let’s talk about the breeches!
Tumblr media
I'm going to call these "breeches" both because it's a word Sera uses and it's what I think they most closely resemble, especially given that they end below the knee but do not extend to the ankle. (Trousers or pants would be full-length.) First of all, it's notable that Sera is wearing breeches because it's a break with the Fereldan silhouettes we saw above, which are pretty universally long straight skirts hitting about mid-calf.
The waist of Sera's breeches is covered by her tunic, but I would guess that they might close with lacing (which can be seen on some of the Inquisitor’s Skyhold outfits) or a buttoned fall (a front panel with buttons on each side, which I think I've seen in some Orlesian noble concept art).
Tumblr media
My guess is that Sera's breeches are newer than her tunic, because of the slim cut; they more closely resemble the Orlesian men's fashions of the present in Inquisition than the sort of looser trousers we see in Ferelden circa 9:31 Dragon. Going by the plaid alone I would have called them Fereldan, but based on the cut I have to call these breeches Orlesian, and possibly a more recent acquisition for Sera. While plaideweave does not appear to be currently on trend in Inquisition, Val Royeaux is a center of high fashion and constantly-changing trends among the upper classes and I don't have trouble believing that plaideweave might have been fashionable sometime in the years Sera has lived there.
A detail I love about these breeches is that they are cut on the bias! Synthetic elastic fabrics and machine-knits don't exist in the non-industrialized south of Thedas so far as we know, but woven fabrics have a bit of stretch and give when cut diagonally across the weave, and this would be appropriate for a pair of snug-fitting woven breeches, for someone of means. (They would have been expensive, because diagonally into a bolt of cloth means you need more fabric to start with.) We also see plenty of wrinkles and bunches in Sera's breeches, especially where her knees bend, demonstrating that this isn't a perfectly smooth, skintight fabric like a pair of synthetic leggings.
Notably, Sera's breeches have been patched—and patched skillfully, using the same fabric and with perfect pattern-matching. I think the patching had to have been done by a previous owner; Sera might have the skill (she does mention sewing in her journal), but she likely wouldn't have had access to a matching fabric or the patience or desire to pattern-match. This suggests to me that these breeches were owned by someone of lesser means; a noble would not wear visibly-patched clothing however skillfully done, but based on the bright colors I think this garment could have belonged to a noble at one point, before being cast aside. The servants we see in the Winter Palace wear neutral, muted colors in order to draw little attention, so I don't think this is part of a servant's uniform, but it could have been worn by a servant on their off time or by a member of their family. My guess is that these breeches were a once-fashionable garment, discarded by their high-class owner and taken by someone in their employ (maybe even their own tailor, who might still have access to scraps of the original fabric) to be repaired and reused by themselves or a friend or family member. I judge the large, visible stitching on both the patches and the side seams to have been added later, likely by Sera herself when the original stitching began to give out, further extending the life of this garment.
So, the breeches are great. We love the breeches.
I do have some issues with the tunic, but let's start with what's good about it.
Tumblr media
I've already mentioned how it's consistent with Fereldan fashions a decade out of date. Based on the style and the fabric, I would say this garment was originally owned by someone in Ferelden of decent but not extravagant means, and Sera either stole it outright or swiped it from a rubbish heap. The wear on the tunic is consistent with its age: it's much more visibly tattered and falling apart than the breeches. However its construction also appears high-quality to me. If we look at the large tatters, we aren't seeing Sera's skin through them, and at the cuff where Sera has rolled up one sleeve we see the same contrasting fabric as the shoulder straps and trim. This tunic has a lining, and this also explains how it's still holding together on Sera's body with so much damage to its outer layer. The asymmetry at the bottom is jagged in a way that suggests part of it was torn off, rather than the garment being intentionally constructed that way.
My big problem with the tunic is its tightness and drape. This is a woven fabric (Highever Weave), and we can see the directionality of the weave very clearly because of the tatters; this garment was not cut on the bias. Even with the spiral-laced closure (love that they used spiral lacing instead of cross-lacing, by the way, just because it's a form of historical lacing that's often overlooked in media), this garment simply would not hang on Sera's figure the way it does in the game. (To be fair, neither would some of the Origins tunics. I have no idea what those are doing.) The form-fitting cut overall just doesn't make sense for a woven fabric, and it doesn't drape like one either—something that I'm sure has frustrated many a cosplayer trying to make this tunic with a comparable material. Without some stretch in the fabric, it's not happening. Even a moderately looser cut would make a lot more sense—compare with how Varric's tunic of the same weave hangs on him. Bottom line, Sera's tunic fits and drapes like a modern machine-knit, and if I wanted to make a cosplay that actually creates the same silhouette, that's what I'd use. Though personally I'd probably discard the silhouette and try to make something with a woven fabric that simply fits more realistically, and if I were to redesign Sera's base look, this is the one change I'd make.
The shape of the tunic is what really gives away the contemporary influence on Sera's outfit design. Leggings and skinny jeans came into fashion in a big way in the mid-2000s, often paired with a longer drapey top, and they hung on through the mid-2010s when Dragon Age: Inquisition was released, and were an obvious influence on the design of all the female companions as well as the female Inquisitor armor styles. Cold-shoulder tops were also a popular trend in the early 2010s. (I guess Dragon Age: Origins was on the cutting edge there.) Asymmetry and shredded clothing were also 2010s trends.
I also want to take a moment to look at Sera's shoes! Her base outfit includes what appears to be some kind of black slip-on shoe. These shoes are interesting to me because I think that like the breeches, they might be men's shoes. There's a similarity to the shoes in this concept art:
Tumblr media
I think this is pretty neat because while the real-world influences on Sera's look can be clearly tied to trends in women's fashion, in-universe her clothing is probably two-thirds menswear. I think that's pretty cool and maybe something to consider with regard to Sera's personal gender presentation as a lesbian in the context of the society she lives in.
I suspect Sera's shoes to be a bit older and out of fashion, since they bear a distinctly rounded toe and the Orlesian high fashion of the moment favors a pointed toe. Like the rest of her clothing, I would guess the shoes to be salvaged or stolen.
So overall, despite a few quibbles, I think Sera's base style is pretty great and very appropriate to her character. Her look is proudly lower-class in a highly-stratified society, visibly Fereldan while living in the Orlesian capital, and gender-non-conforming amidst a highly-gendered aristocratic culture.
It's pretty cool! I like it a lot.

hello!!! can you do a starfruit x pomegranate fanchild? it's okay if you can't. ty!!!
Tumblr media
I just realized last night that I never actually posted Miracle Fruit over here, my bad. She’s probably been done for like a month now, I just forgot that I never posted her
Anyways, so her original name was Star Apple, since they’re round like pomegranates, have a star shape in the middle, sort of like starfruit but also not, and they’re purple while Pomegranate is mostly red and Starfruit has a lot of blues. But I was struggling with how to incorporate the star apples without her looking goofy so I shelved her. Then later I discovered miracle fruits and was like “you know what, I can see Pomegranate and Starfruit naming their kid that”. And also they’re red and round like pomegranates I guess
Putting this down now, star apples does seem like the better choice, but whatever, I chose Miracle Fruit and I like her. Maybe I can make her a star apple sibling down the road
Miracle fruit:
Tumblr media
Okay so first off, that thing on her head is supposed to be a headband, based on Starfruit’s apprentice priests, but it looks more like a hat. I added that hair bit on top to clarify more that it’s a headband, but it still looks like a hat
Anyways, so as you can see I took some liberties with Miracle Fruit’s design compared to her parents. Her eyes are more open and circular and she has the cheek blush because she’s supposed to be a kid, and I thought that was one way to portray it. I made her eyes black because of the black seeds of miracle fruit, and also because the blue eyes didn’t really fit Miracle Fruit’s color scheme, while I didn’t want to give her red eyes because she already had so much red on her design (by the final product I had toned down the red considerably, replacing it with the blue). And I was told the black eyes looked the best, so here we are. Maybe I took too many liberties with her design, I don’t know
I wanted to give her a simple dress, since she’s a young…priestess I think, and then I added the patterns so she doesn’t look too plain. I feel like the outfit she’s wearing looks like from something I’ve seen, but I don’t know, I just based the design off of open miracle fruits. I think the dress looked better in the sketch though
Her necklace was another homage to miracle fruits. Originally in the Star Apple design, she had a head chain (I think they’re called?), like Pomegranate and Starfruit, but I decided giving her a necklace would be better
Anyways yeah, that’s Miracle Fruit’s design, not too much to say really
So as for her character, I don’t have much on that end either. I figured she’d be a priestess from the same place as Starfruit, assuming that Pomegranate reformed and went back to Starfruit, I don’t imagine Miracle Fruit would be learning the dark arts or anything, nor would she be around Pomegranate Village much
Though I will say, her concept at the top makes her look more like an alchemist to me. Hmm, maybe I should have done that instead
Well anyways, so she’s learning to be a priestess, and she has some impressive psychic powers, being incredibly gifted. Though there is also a strange oddness to her powers, one that no one’s entirely sure how to explain
I imagine her to be a small, quiet child, just walking around the halls. If she speaks, she probably has a pretty quiet voice
But uh yeah, that’s her. To be honest the things I had of her might have been forgotten over the month or so, so that can explain the somewhat lacking info section. But regardless I hope you like her!

Ok so obviously I think about Asajj a lot but I usually don't fully explain or visualize it. So no time like the present to start doing that
Here are things about Asajj, starting with my personal design and concept of her and why it's like that (most of these are sketches to put my thoughts somewhere so don't expect anything refined or clean):
Tumblr media Tumblr media
First off, that girl is a cryptid. Weirdo. I love giving her all-black eyes/white pupils because it fits her, and eyebrows whatsoever (unless I'm in the mood for that). This is mainly sticking to the earlier Dermoty Power designs for Episode II and the way he draws her later on. The pointy ears are because she's a cat to me and she had those in Hyperspace Stories #5. Also!!!! I hate the Clone Wars retconning her to be Dathomorian and a NIghtsister and that whole backstory with my entire heart. Story-wise I prefer sticking to the Legends stories in the early 00s' comics (specifically Star Wars: Republic #60). So Rattatak (her Legends home planet) and her original origin story are very near and dear to my heart. This is important. (btw I'm mostly not OCfying her I'm just mixing up some of her versions. mostly.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Next up: tattoos and marks! made up too much lore for that but here's a bit: I mixed and matched her Legends and canon designs, and changed their meanings because they have fuckass actual meanings. the two things that kinda look like her eyebrows are from TCW and I took them and made them into her family tattoos. In MY mind, those are passed through generations in Rattataki families (by the mother) and those two are the Ventress tatts from the Ventress family. Other than that we have (in the left pic) the 12 (did not draw 12 but there are 12, 6 on each side) tattoos from her Legends design. Their actual explanation is that she got one for each of Ky's killers she murdered. But that's weird so instead for my ver they're mourning tattoos that she got after Ky's death. The things under her eyes are a whole ass mess but they're called decay marks and they're loosely based on concept art and they're basically darker the older/darker sider she gets.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(she has another arm I'm just bad at drawing it) Wanted to draw my interpretation of this outfit with my face design for her but I was not working with the cover as a reference so there's a lot missing. For this one I think it's just the outfit she wears in her later Padawan years on Rattatak, or in my AUs as a padawan in general.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
they are a mess but some of my layouts and doodles for her outfits: 1) her on-panel Padawan outfit which is basically just a tank top and cargo pants. wanted to draw it so here we are
Tumblr media
2) her ugly ass outfit as a daughter of warlords! girl I know you're like a child but what are you wearing
Tumblr media
3) Personal Jedi Robes design but it's just the previous Padawan design with sleeves and more little changes
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(can you tell I enjoy drawing her face like that) these are more AU-oriented 4) Inquisitor Asajj design because I thought it'd be cool idk what she'd doing with the Empire tho 5)Temple guard design but I hate their outfits so it doesn't look good 6) just put her TCW Jedi General robes things. go off girl (I have 3 AUs in my head that fit that premise let's move on)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Put them together just because. The drawings have nothing to do with each other 7) This one's story is so complex. But it's basically just a design for Jedi Asajj post-Order 66. Might develop work on it more but I love the way it looks
And the other one: If you followed any of my disarrayed Asajj thoughts lately you might have seen my concept of Mon Mothma/Asajj as a ship. They won't leave my mind so I'm trying to figure out how to draw Mon and that one's something of a design for a younger Senator Mon, for their first meeting or smth idk
OK! just put together some thoughts now that I have visual aid for them. great thanks for coming to my TED talk I will continue talking about Asajj but now I can show you shit instead of just writing words woooohhhh

About that Nova and Pluto height difference picture (this is gonna be a long post y'all)
I deleted the picture I drew of Nova and Pluto kissing on every one of my social medias save for Tumblr because people have been expressing their discomfort with how Nova looked like a child compared to Pluto who looked like a fully grown adult.
And I completely understand all the upset reactions since Pluto makes everyone look way more tiny than they truly are. It definitely didn't help that I was being lazy when I sketched and lined everything since I dread full bodies sometimes and tried to cheat by hiding most of Nova's with her big gamer jacket.
So that, mixed with Nova's height in comparison to Pluto, and me not focusing more on her anatomy led to a picture that, if you are already familiar with the characters, looks cute and fluffy. But if you are new to them, looks a lot less cute and more gross.
After talking to a friend as well as a mutual about the picture, I decided that deleting it and fleshing Nova's design out more would be the best.
Unlike Jack, Nana, Sweetheart, and Bitterbat, I've been slacking on drawing Nova and Pluto. And the latter couples have had whole make-overs and an established way I draw them that makes my brain go "YEP THIS WORKS". But Nova and Pluto have been neglected in my head so I haven't been updating their looks alongside my art style like I have been with the others. Which means I still draw them based off the designs I made of them back in like-2020 or 2021???
BASICALLY THEY'VE BEEN LONG OVER DUE FOR SOME TINKERING.
Specifically Nova. Pluto I am very happy with. But Nova's design needs more lovin' in it.
I won't be completely overhauling her since I love her current look-I just want to do a better job at her design.
When I first designed Nova and Pluto, they were meant to be based off retro anime designs for a cute girl and handsome boy (even though Pluto is nonbinary). Sadly, cute anime girls often look very less mature than their male counterparts and so Nova suffers the same problem by default. I also wanted Nova to stand out from my other adult female characters and have her lack the same amount of curves and basically be flat.
This is something I will still be keeping because the idea that "curves=adult" is genuinely a shitty concept. Same as "short=child" since there are PLENTY of shorties out there that are grown adults. I am one of them-it's why I keep making my girls so short. I need some representation down here 😭.
When it comes to Nova's current default outfit-I will technically still be keeping her gamer jacket in her wardrobe closet but I'll be giving her a new jacket that will serve to be her new default one that shows her build more so she won't look so "childish" compared to Pluto. It'll help to avoid a repeat situation (I hope) as well as solve my constant frustration at having to cover up good ass anatomy with clothing (I DO IT ENOUGH TO JACK-I PLAYED MYSELF WITH NOVA'S JACKET)
OVERALL-Nova just needs the same love I gave to Nana and Sweetheart when they went through their original tinkers.
I will continue to draw Nova and Pluto together because I care about them and their story a lot. But with the themes that occur in the story and the relationship Nova and Pluto have together, it's definitely important that I make sure that cat girl looks more like a cat woman in future art I draw of her.
As for why I didn't delete the Tumblr post of the original picture-this entire site is an internet archive which means if someone reblogs something from someone, and then that someone deletes the original post, the reblog doesn't go down with it and remains. So it'd be useless to delete it. I just settled for turning reblogs off.
In the future I definitely want to redraw the picture but I'll hold off until I give Nova the touch ups she very much deserves.

Jimmy doodle/sketch dump in color ❤
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Ft. cameos of early concept art of my persona's new design. She's still a shapeshifting AI. Space buns are mandatory too.)
Please excuse any writing errors (yeah I mispelled "seperated" oops). The following is the text version of what's written.
First sketch page:
Thomas' Animal Friends s24 e22
Second sketch page (top to bottom, left to right)
I really liked how the expression came out before I added the lion costume so I seperated it.
Jimmy the canonical meow-meow
he's so adorable!
"Thomas' Animal Friends" (S.24 E.22)
*does anything but draw the wheels*
As I was writing this, the more I realized I could make a meme out of it so here it is.
Tumblr media
Ok so now that's done with, I can ramble a bit about the drawings themselves.
I started this shortly after doing the Edward sketch dump that had the redraw of a scene from "Old Iron". I decided to draw out pre-rebuild Jimmy in a specific scene that I'm considering getting rid of and rewriting for something else. Poor baby. :[
Also the other sketch with the angy Jimmy is based on another scene in EoSR. Not saying where it's from as it is a bit of a spoiler lol (recently deleted a lot of posts where I did the opposite of that lol)
I couldn't help but draw James from that specifc screenshot. I was going to draw James in that outfit but when i finished drawing the "base", aka him without the costume, I really liked the expression I gave him. Nothing like the original screenshot xd but I really liked it so I seperated them.
Speaking of the lion costume, I had to adjust mine because damn, it just looked really off when I used the layout of the original screenshot. The odd shadow is supposed to be there as they're supposed to be the back legs. .3.
I'm pretty impressed with how I drew that specific James, despite his funnel being incorrectly placed (it should be right smack in the middle of his smokebox). I love this perspective in particular. Oh, and new details as thus one was using the most up-to-date design for him. :] (i avoided drawing the coupling, btw.)
And there's my persona, or at least quick doodles of my persona's new design. The crescent moon horns are gone, which were a mistake tbh. I didn't like them that much. The short hair and space buns stay though. Bottom right is my favorite.

Marinette / Ladybug Redesign
Tumblr media
Full details about my redesign choices below!
This redesign isn't too dramatic, I mostly based it off of her concept art, taking a few notes from her canon design
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Marinette:
I really like the shorts she's wearing, so I gave her those
In general her original outfit I love, it's casual but fashionable
I made her coat longer, idk it looks more chic, and makes her look cute
I also gave it pink compliments, her bag and shoes too, because I didn't wanna leave her design all neutral, I love the pink accents in her og design but hate how it was executed. the floral design on her shirt looks cheap, and I despise her pink capri skinny jeans
kept her flats but made them look a bit more trendy; she's an aspiring fashion designer, she should look the part
her buttons can lowkey be references to her bug suit
Ladybug:
I'm OBSESSED with how they made her hair blue as Marinette and black as ladybug, they should've kept that! Makes Marinette look bubbly whilst ladybug looks stoic, and it makes sense as to why Adrien can't tell who she is
I also made her eyes blue as Marinette and black as Ladybug for extra points (Her round black eyes are intentionally made to look like her spots)
In the pv anime version, Ladybug didn't have spots on her legs, which IMO looks better, makes her look more like a ladybug inpired superhero instead of some girl in a ladybug onsie (It's also easier to animate, 2d > 3d)
gave her foot sole support
I made her hair longer
Gave her suit some gold accents, idk it looks good

random Research, this time about the Tetra Crew, and Tee’s concept art
my research is typically about Squares, but I’ve had these thoughts for quite a while now and want to get them out there. The research will be under the cut!
So to start off I have to explain a little bit here. So, Jay and Elle don’t have a very important role aboard the S.S. Tetra, their just described as the twins or tricksters instead of captain, engineer, protector, second in command, etc. And their outfits are pretty simple, and they aren’t too obvious that their based on the J and L tetrimino’s respectively. (Image provided to explain what I mean)
Tumblr media
Now, on to the research related to Tee! Remember what I’ve explained about the twins, it’ll be important.
Tumblr media
With Tee’s concept art he has with Ando Ringo, he has similar traits to that of the twins canon designs. Such as his shoes lack the T tetrimino shapes on them, as do his gloves. His shirt also is not obviously related to a T tetrimino either.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
However, Ess and Ai — the two other humanoid characters of the crew, have shoes and outfits that make their tetrimino obvious (as Tee’s canon design also has that trait they do)
So, why would Tee’s concept art seem as though he was originally going to be like the twins? Well, I have a theory about that.
What if Tee was originally wasn’t going to be the captain? Okay, I’ll explain my thoughts now.
Okay, so what if Tee wasn’t going to be a captain of the ship in PPT, and was going to be just a member. And someone like Ess (look at her shoes compared to Tee’s canonical shoes) was going to be captain instead.
Ess is the first mate, and is in charge when Tee is not around, and she is Ex’s daughter. So it’d make sense if she was going to be the captain and Tee was going to not have a job.
In the Ex EX chapter of PPT, you can see the crew of the Tetra PRIOR to Tee becoming a crew member or becoming captain (I do not remember). And all of the members apart from Tee where part of the Tetra’s Crew.
Which, why is this the case? Why would they make Tee the last one which canonically joined and he became captain instead of Ex’s own daughter? Maybe it’s because it could have been changed during the games creation, to make Tee the captain due to the fact the game “Tetris”’s iconic shape is the T one of the T tetrimino which is what Tee is based off of.
Well, if you have any ideas on this or even comments, please put them in the reblogs, replies, or even my asks!

Dreadwolf Speculations - Protagonist + Companions (Part 2 - loong post)
This is part 2 of my Protagonist + Companions speculation for Dragon Age Dreadwolf. You probably will have to read Part 1 to understand the things I discuss in this part.
Some of the pictures I use here will be snips from the BTS trailer from 2020, so apologies for the cropping/inferior quality of some of them.
Much of this (or all of it, really) is speculation, based around teasers, trailers, concept art and leaks. None of it is confirmed, I just wanted to share my personal take on what our companions will beTake that as you will, going forward.
And so;
Part 2: The Companions
Tumblr media
So, as of right now we have 3 confirmed named characters:
Rook (most probably the protagonist)
Bellara (female... something)
Davrin (male... probably a grey warden)
Bellara and Davrin may or may not be companions, but I feel it's important to note they're the only named characters whose voices we've heard (from the BTS teaser back in 2020).
There will be 8 companions, at least for the base game (without dlc companions, which I believe Bioware will not do again)
Origins had 8 (+1 secret companion to replace another who leaves late game) - 2 mages, 2 rogues, 3 warriors + a dog)
DA2 had 7 (with a switch of the siblings, based on pc class) - 2 mages (3 if brother died), 2 rogues, 2 warriors (3 if sister died) (+ technically a dog?)
Inquisition had 9 - 3 mages, 3 rogues, 3 warriors.
Let's go from left to right from the image above!
Female mage (probably elven)
Tumblr media
I don't think a warrior or a rogue would wear a dress for obvious reasons (restrictive movement, impractical battle equipment). And flowing robe-like attire strikes me as a mage thing. I'm also getting an elven vibe from her, but not dalish - her outfit feels elven (legs for days, flowy, the front part that dips between the legs) and it looks to me like she's barefoot (elves like their toesies out)
Here is some examples of elven armour so you see what I mean;
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Make sense?
I also like to believe that she is the woman on the far left of this concept art;
Tumblr media
Literally just because she has similar hair and both characters look overtly feminine (and attractive, I must admit)
As for personality/background; I believe she will be rather confident, perhaps flirtatious, she'll probably give you a shock, and will hide some dark secret (I'm calling it, she's going to betray us). As for her background... It depends where we pick her up, really. But I'm positive she's not a dalish elf... If she is an elf at all, but I'm 70-80% sure that she is. Her ears are covered/hidden, so.
2. Female Qunari Rogue
Tumblr media
Very obviously a female qunari (long hair on a female qunari!!). I say rogue, because, we've had 2 warriors, and all of the concept art with this same female qunari is of her wielding daggers.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
She's going to be stubborn, no nonsense, and will probably question your every move. She'll also probably be romanceable, given how much she appears in the concept art/teasers (compared to others). I would like her to be a tal-vashoth- though I think it would be interesting to see the perspective of a woman who lived under the qun, and possibly left because being a woman within the qun is very different from being a man (and we've only seen men, so far). So perhaps she's a runaway from the qun? Perhaps she disagreed with the order of things? She looks closed off/no nonsense. Perhaps her character arc will be her learning to relax/express herself/trust, like we get to see a softer and more feminine side if we get her approval up?
3. Male.... Human.
Tumblr media
I want to say rogue, but when I asked my partner, he said he doesn't look like a rogue or a warrior. So... Possibly mage? The satchels and light-ish armour make me think rogue.... Unless Dreadwolf introduces multiclassing? (I'd fucking love that, not going to lie). This could be Davrin? I doubt it, but... Maybe? I'll settle on a hard maybe - mainly because the other characters in this lineup just don't hit me with that voice. This is a man of triumph, perhaps also of loss. He has something to prove, for himself and for others - he will be... Clever but also valorous, I don't think he's the type to skulk or hide, he'll want to be up at the front and will want you to see (but not in a pompous way?).
Not much else to say on him, unfortunately.
4. Human-male Mortalitasi-mage
Tumblr media
The armour, especially the bracers, look like bones - and I'm 100% sure there's going to be a mortalitasi mage as a companion, they've been hyping them up ever since Inquisition and Tevinter Nights was a thing - and no other character looks like a death mage.
I have nothing else on him, honestly. I'm not getting any vibes. I think he'll be interesting to talk to and will provide a great deal of information, and I suspect he'll be very interesting in stopping/killing Fen'Harel - perhaps he'll have a personal grudge?
5. Female rogue... dwarf.
Tumblr media
The character looks female, and that looks like a gun - though I feel inclined to say it's a crossbow, just at an odd angle (perhaps one similar to Bianca?). I also say dwarf, because I KNOW there's a dwarf companion, and no other character fits in the lineup. She just gives me dwarf vibes.
This is either Scout Lace Harding, or Bianca - perhaps a completely new character (perhaps Bellara? "The good kind of rumble!" gives me dwarf vibes).
She'll be cocky, and quirky, and fun. Looks entirely like the person to does the whole *pumps shotgun* "it's Morbin' time".
Also;
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
If it's a female rogue dwarf, I'm 99% sure it's Scout Lace Harding, I mean- look at those freckles, that ginger hair. Maybe not. But they all look like rogues, and 2 images have crossbows... Is the original lineup picture.... Bianca-the crossbow? It looks a lot like Bianca. If so.... Is Varric going to die in Dreadwolf, and this character is going to get Bianca??
OKAY NO. QUICK THEORY TIME. BECAUSE THIS IS GOING TO BOTHER ME IF I DON'T GET IT OUT THERE NOW THAT I'VE CONSIDERED IT.
So we know there's a dwarf character in the next game, who looks a bit like Harding, who wield a crossbow.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's difficult to get the pictures of Bianca-the crossbow when it's not in active mode, so trust me, it looks a lot like the silhouette's weapon. So- in this wild scenario.... Harding somehow gets Varric's famed crossbow, the crossbow he loves and doesn't let anyone touch? He dies. Varric's going to die, and he's going to either give Bianca to Harding to prevent an enemy from taking it, or Bianca is going to take it off his dead/dying body.
And you ask; what kind of scenario permits this happening? They barely talked in Inquisition.
Well.
Tumblr media
Varric and Harding are travelling together in the deep roads, looking for Solas (and hot on his tail), in this comic.
And what does Harding look like in this most recent rendition of her?
Tumblr media
Now, go back up and look at the concept art images.
The scariest thing is; I could be SO FUCKING RIGHT. Varric may very well die soon (either in these comics, or in Dreadwolf - I'm guessing Dreadwolf). And Harding is going to get Bianca.
She's going to have a serious, and personal vendetta against Solas.
Okay, dwarf companion complete. Next, before I explode.
6. Antivan Crow? Fellow Rook? Rogue (probably female)
Tumblr media
I mentioned before (in Part 1) how I believed since the protagonist is Rook, that in chess, there are 2 Rooks; and in this image;
Tumblr media
There are 2 similar looking corvid-themed characters (left ready to grab the guy, right holding the palanquin). I guessed that the right is the protagonist Rook, and the left, is either an Antivan Crow, or a 2nd Rook (agents of the Inquisition).
Tumblr media
Tin foil hats, galore. But it would be cool though, to go through the game with a constant companion from the beginning, like Alistair in Origins, or Carver/Bethany in DA2.
Tumblr media
I think this is also the Crow/2nd Rook, similar design + weapon. Or, this is the main character.
I believe they're a female character, but that's purely a hunch based on the palanquin piece. Plus, they look like a crow. It'd be weird to have another male crow (I very much doubt it's Zevran).
They seem sarcastic, capable, and probably very likeable (the kind of person it's hard not to like). Probably romanceable to males and females.
7. Male.... Mage??
Tumblr media
At this point, I'm just taking wild guesses. He looks human. But I was super hoping for a tranquil, or ancient elf companion. 1 million points if it's Felassan or Abelas. But... I really don't know what to make of this character, but I'm getting mage vibes. Hoping for a tranquil companion. So that's all I'll say for this guy.
8. I Don't Even Know - Abomination?
Tumblr media
Looks like a sailor? Possibly pirate? From the concept art, it looks like a lot of the scenery is tropical/seaside/ocean - to that makes a bit of sense.
They look dead, their face looks like a skull, almost. So... A spirit possessing the dead?
Or... I just considered another thing, kind of.
Where have we seen a blue face glow before?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now, I'm not saying it's Solas, or Mythal. I'm merely... suggesting that it could be... Something to do with this scene where Solas kills Flemeth, on some level. I find it interesting how I remembered this when looking at this pirate-looking character, especially when the colours and imagery are so similar.
We'd have to consider why Solas' face lights and waves around, but part of me always assumed this was like... his spirit-self? (If we're to go with the idea that Solas was originally a spirit who took physical form, like Cole).
So... It's a spirit. Is my best guess XD One that hasn't quite gotten the physical form thing right, perhaps it doesn't look human (or elven, dwarven, etc), and looks how... Hold the fuck up.
It's a spirit, at best guess, who takes OUR side... And doesn't look like a physical being. It's body is completely covered, except it's face, that you can't quite see right because of the glow. And how do spirits look in the physical world?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's... Not a corporeal spirit, or one that took physical form. It's a spirit existing as a spirit in the physical world. Or.... The veil has come down, and spirits walk freely in Thedas.
It doesn't look like it's really wearing clothes, it looks like it's just covering itself- a mismatch of items its found or conjured by it's own guess at what people should wear, because it thinks it should be wearing things. I don't think it has a physical body, is what I'm saying, or it's not quite a body (or similar to a demon, it doesn't look right).
But if it's a spirit, what is it a spirit of?
We could guess by colour. I couldn't say; but I'd love for it to be Hope, or something else we've never seen before!
And... That concludes it I think, if I've forgotten something I'll just deal with it.

I've mentioned this l Iike twice before i think? But I'm aggressively passionate about legacy day, it's the one eah special I'm super not normal about lol.
And ohhhhhh boy, do I have thoughts. So here are some!
The outfits from legacy day becoming the looks the characters are known for; so like, cinderella's blue dress, the pink/blue dress from sleeping beauty. Basically, the outfits are the ones that remain in the public conscious as being x character.
At the same time, they're homages to past generations; part of the reason these particular looks become so cemented as being representative of the characters is because they are repeated. Of course, every so often there is the one generation that decides to change things up. but mostly they remain very similar. So every year there's the rush to try and have a legacy day outfit that is somewhat "different" while remaining in traditional with past looks. this is because everyone trys to be the next generation that sets the standard for the "main look", they want to be memorable basically. (Spoilers: it usually doesn't work. All though, there end up being some absolutely horrendous outfits because of this...)
The last point creates some mild problems... like cinderella's dress originally being silver but progressively becoming more blue. Or the blue/pink dress conundrum with sleeping beauty. And of course, beauty's (the other one) dress originally being pink but being changed, and then later alternating between gold/yellow and blue (depending on the wear-er, yk?). Also, yes, I am basing these off the disney versions. What about it? (In my defense, the disney versions are some of the only points of reference when talking about fairy tale visuals that are semi-consistent.)
Legacy day being a big, bad, media circus; its basically the equivalent of a major award show in ever after. Every commoner who doesn't go to ever after high tunes into coverage of legacy day, it's a big moment for culture. Legacy day ends up dictating fashion trends, public opinion of the characters, and of course, gossip. The first two tie together because, in a similar way to reality TV dating shows, some big stars always come out of legacy day. (I think this goes without saying but, they become the it girls; and boys; for as long as they can maintain it)
All of this leading to, the concept of ever after high having like, a vault or museum; sorta in the way some colleges have museums? (i can only really think of examples that are for fashion or art schools lol) basically, the school keeping records of the outfits (and past years!) for future reference somehow. Whether it's physically storing some of the outfits from both legacy day and when the legacies are completed, and/or having pictures and written records. Tbh, I have no clue where the hell this idea came from. Considering the closest the show gets to this is the thronecoming museum(or whatever it's called), and that's a completely different concept.
All of this to say, legacy day should've been bigger.

5. What type of canon character and/or OC do you think has good design? (And why?)
I really love Idia's design (sure that's no surprise) I think the idea of his hair, looks and personality came together to make a very fun character. I also think he's one of the most expressive characters.
Tumblr media
I enjoy the subtleties in Riddles design, even if it seems very plain he's nice to look at! Anytime he's in a card my eye gets drawn to him. Not to mention the whole Heartslabyul aesthetic looks great on him. His original card is one of my favs.
Tumblr media
Jamil has a great design too, his hair, his eye shape, and he consistently has great outfits/cards. (Call him Ranch cuz he be dressin' and all that). Even though he may not be the most expressive he has an aloof air about him that really conveys his character.
Tumblr media
For OC's ahhh its hard bc I love all my friends ocs designs. But off the top of my head, I really love the designs of @twst-the-night-away, @the27th, @cherryjkj, @the-trinket-witch, @oseathepebble, @vaporvipermedia and @bunnwich. @twst-the-night-away has great ocs one of my favs is who I did a commission of Sparky! He has interesting lore and backstory and I think is such a fun addition to Ignihyde. @the27th Has a Yu character design based on one of my fav old horror game, IB, his name is Yves and he's very cute and sweet! I love his concept and design. @cherryjkj Has a whole fandorm dedicated to Sugar Rush from Wreck it Ralph which is really fun and cool! And a cute Yuusona named Yuka whose design I love! @the-trinket-witch Has their character based of Mary Poppins Albert Eastwind who I can tell they put a lot of love into. They also have a great steam punk au! @oseathepebble Who created their MC Tsukiko who I adore! And a lot of other OC's my other favs are Damien and Adrian who are based off Cinderella's step sisters! @vaporvipermedia Has the wonderful Kei Yoshihiko and Blaze. I love their art style and how they design outfits and characters! They have wonderful lore too! (They have lots more Oc's but those stand out to me right now~) And of course, last but not least, my bff @bunnwich who has Yume's brother Yuuta as well as Del Lethe and Elie Akane. I really love how bun adapted our old OC's Del and Elie to the twst verse and have so much fun talking with them about theories, hcs, aus, and character analysis!
If you are a moot and I didn't tag you please don't feel discouraged. I could go on and on about all of my wonderful moots and friends ocs but a post can only be so long. And like I said these were off the top of my head.
