December Blog

In October, I got a surprise job at a stationery place I did not apply to. It was really all about the connections. I’m starting to understand that all stationery places in town know about each other and who works where because the industry is pretty small...

We are nestled in a little shopping plaza which looks like this:

I get to see it every day which makes me psyched to go to work. It is a lovely place, full of plants. My manager is really cool, and my boss is... interesting. She literally said to me “I sense a big change coming from the universe and I think you will be a part of this change.” That’s great! I think.

For the first time in a while, I feel a weight has been lifted off my shoulders. At the same time, I also wonder what would have happened to me if this opportunity did not present itself... I got way too lucky here.

Occasionally I’ll pick up a book. In the span of a week, I finished The Devil Wears Prada, the novel in which the famous 2006 Anne Hathaway movie was based on. Basically, it’s about a young woman in NYC trying to impress her hell boss so she can move up in life. But at what cost? Actually, a lot of it was so relatable, I had to put the book down sometimes or else I would actually start crying. It reminded me of the hard times. Compared to the film adaptation, which was a feel-good movie, the book was 10x more depressing... It was still a good book though.

✵ The Plant Saga ✵

I got a few new ones since my last update.

Florian (Neon Pothos) - Finally! I’ve always dreamed of getting a hanging pothos!

Estelle (Lantana) - I failed to take a pic before winter = no flowers and fewer leaves, so I’ll just show you what she pretty much looked like!

Unnamed Pansies. I bought them from the “dying plants section” for $0.25 each and I wasn’t sure I could rescue them. Now they’re doing okay! I accidentally crossbred the two colors and made a pinkish one (on the right, not flowering atm).

He’s not new but Kiryu (Christmas Cactus) is in bloom now since it’s winter!

Hubert (Monstera) is so big now that he needs his own space. The leaves are larger than my head...

✵ Art and Social Media ✵

It’s been a year since I deleted mobile twitter and I cannot recommend it enough. I feel that I can now be more present. I check it on desktop once in a while in case someone needed to get my attention. I used to get the FOMO, especially when it came to Tales news, but after a while it goes away completely. Luckily some homies have my back and send me choice updates so I don’t live completely under a rock.

I actually discovered an add-on to my web browser called Better Twitter. I’ve hidden my follower count (to myself only) among other things, so I would not feel punished every time I saw it. There are times where I would like to browse my own page for RTs that I liked. Now I can do it without any fear. Please install it if you have similar concerns.

This year, I’ve really been more lax about posting art since I’ve cut back on social media. I just post whenever I want instead of following a schedule like I used to (Insane. Why did I ever do that.). In my head it feels like I only did 3 pieces but it was actually much more than that. I can’t believe finished my Berseria comic series Undercover! this year and tbh felt like 10 years ago lol.

As of now I think I’ve hit a block or some kind of burn-out. It’s not like I don’t have ideas, it’s just not coming out the way I want them to so I give up. Do you ever get those head voices telling you that you aren’t as good as you thought you were? 🤡

I get caught up with “I need to challenge myself” but in the midst of the challenging, I get too tired and end up with something simple, just so I can finish the piece. Sure, I feel accomplished for a few hours but at the end of the day the head voice says Ah, I failed again. It’s not like this is something recent. I’ve been feeling this way for a long long time. When will I break free...

Why did I shut down in the first place? Well the real reason was it was too expensive to stay open. It was only later when I realized they let you keep the shop for free if you limit your products. Sure why not!

✵ Hold up, I need to scream about Xenoblade 2 ✵

I gotta say my piece before I beat the final chapter... Praying real hard I won’t be disappointed lol.

Now I’ve had my beef with the character designs and a handful of weirdly out-of-place dialogue and voice acting but everything else about it blew me away. It’s been a long time since I have been so enamored with a game. The plot, the LORE, the gameplay. So very fun and interesting!

I didn’t think I would enjoy it since I loved the first one and the second is nothing like it. Some friends pushed me into at least trying it instead of judging it based off of what everyone else thinks. And I do that a lot especially when it comes to $60 games...

If I didn’t borrow it from the cafe owner’s (my ex-boss now) son for a trial run... I don’t think I would have started it. He was a huuuuge fan and I suppose it got me curious as to why he liked it so much.

Anyway, you ever just see a character for literally 5 seconds and you’re like “yep that’s the one”? Happened to me. I absolutely had to keep playing to find out who this guy was. That’s all there is to it.

first of all, thank you 💘 second of all...

ok ok ok don’t get too excited, but I finally got the juice to start working on the next part of Fanatic 🖤 most of you guys will be like ‘who cares’ but i know some of you have been waiting for this for a while! it’s been what, 2 months?? hope I’m not jinxing myself by saying this *knocks on wood* also not to hype myself too much but it’s kinda bomb 😳 maybe this is just my sick bias but I’ve really been wanting to write about...aftermath iykwim haha. reader all scared & shy & trying to avoid him but yk he’s not going to leave her alone :P

I also figured out the ending to it will come back!! it wouldn’t be shiggy if it didn’t get dangerous 😈 also gonna be nice to write some eyes-rolling-back-in-the-head fuckery so our favorite handsy creep can finally get his dick wet with his beloved little nursey <3

fanfic: I read stuff like what I write (smut, kink, yandere, villains). at some point I’m going to make a long post of fic recs of my own! I also read fluff and character x character ship fic so interests are pretty broad

TV: humor, crime shows like Bones, Criminal Minds, Psych, that kind of thing. nothing too dark or complicated, nothing that requires too much investment. same goes for anime

movies: pretty much everything! lately I’m really into Howl’s Moving Castle and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood

Hi. This could be a long shot but I used to rp on jcink and I left it almost a year ago to take a break as I found the communities very toxic. I miss my characters and I forgot you there were rp communities on tumblr! I have never rp'd on tumblr before and I'm not sure how it works, as in where is the actual place where written character posts are or where members chat? I'm a newbie to tumblr rp and would love to join. I would appreciate some advice on how to start! xx

Hey there! Thank for for taking the time to reach out to us, we’re more than happy to try our best and give you to tumblr RP rundown! Sorry to hear you had a poor experience elsewhere - rest assured, if you want to be part of Crooked, we don’t bite! (We even have Game Nights !)

A summary of what I’ll try cover:

Your blog is where you post as your muse/character per se, you can reblog musings and anything you like about your character(s) on here for the group to see.

Your replies/roleplay interactions are also on here where you can post responses to open starters and engage in all that’s happening! (If you don’t use discord - we use it as our OOC platform, your OOC communications will go on your blog(s) too!)

So, to begin, the way the process of on the dash RP-ing works is generally: You create a tumblr account separate to your personal/main. You can use a little trick in the sign-up process to avoid creating new emails and losing track. For example:

[email protected] can be used for your personal tumblr escapades! And then, for an RP one, you can use the same email, but format it like this: [email protected]. (It still goes to your same inbox, but it allows you to have multiple accounts - if you’re using them for different groups.)

I already feel like I might have lost you a little here - so, let me continue off this topic... we can always help you set-up later!

Once you have a tumblr account, you can then decide if you want to keep it organised in the sense of individual character blogs or if you want to compile multiple characters onto one blog; then use the tumblr tagging system to make it clear which you’re using if you have gathered a few muses! We have a mixture in the group who use Mumu blogs (multi-muse) and those who use individuals - it’s purely personal preference! Despite using a Mumu myself here in Crooked, I generally prefer individuals because it makes it a little easier to keep up with the replies I may owe!

Alrighty, so there’s that ramble added... It’s honestly much simpler to navigate than I may be making it out to be - my apologies! Essentially, you reblog interactions at your pace and create new ones for those to engage in and your threads are you ongoing interactions. If you would like some examples, I’ll list the admin blogs below so if you wanted to have a quick scroll for examples of how we kind of interact - there’s not really a right or wrong way!

These listed above are all mumu blogs - so we have multiple characters we have compiled into a single blog, whereas we have members that have a main blog and then add side blogs for each picked up OC character. But you should be able to see the method of roleplay in each of these. There is also no rule on length or tense you write in ... you’ll see some variation, I’m sure. As long as it’s understandable and we can gauge interactions, you’re on for a win! Hurrah!

I feel like that’s the getting started basics kind of covered? Everyone has their own tumblr tagging system on their posts to be able to retrieve former interactions and such.

A beneficial program (I’d recommended getting.) is a free add-on for google chrome browsers called XKit as it offers the ability to edit posts once they’ve been posted and you can reblog just the newest interaction instead of swarming the dash with previous/repeat engagements. Honestly, if you haven’t realised I’m Queen of the Rambles - you... do now... but truly, we’re all friendly and willing to help you every step of the way! You’ll pick it up in no time, I’m sure! A lot of information and step-by-steps are covered in sections of the Main blog that might give you some insights beyond my explanations!

As for discord, this is the OOC platform we use for out of character interactions and general day-to-day conversations. (Also, game nights... and lots of other chaos.) It’s also free and is available on both mobile & desktop. There’s no obligation to be part of the server there - but you’re more than welcome to get to know your fellow members and RP-ers! Helps with plotting threads and interactions too.

As a last addition: we’ve broken down the process a little on the Navigation page (Mobile Navigation, here.) so you’re able to look at things pre-application and then post-application to try encourage an ease of access for all. Hopefully by looking at some blog examples of ours and having a meander through the CrookedSoulsRPG main blog that you should find some helpful resources. We also have a resources blog, here if you want to look at gifs and icons... especially if you’re potentially not used to using gifs/icons/gif icons in your interactions, we try to where we can and there’s many faces for inspiration if you haven’t acquired an arsenal of faces yet!

Hello all! Welcome back to the MFackenthal Show! I am so glad that you are here today. If you’re new to the show, I encourage you to go here to find past episodes. There are only a few.

The MFackenthal Show has officially been green lit for more episodes! We used to only be able to afford to run the show every once in a while, but the people have spoken - they want to see the show more often! I could not be more excited to bring you this next guest. She has been with the fandom for quite a while. She was one of the first people I started communicating with on a regular basis. She has talked me up, supported me from the beginning and though she hasn’t written much lately - when she does drop a chapter - it’s long and it’s worth it! Megs: Max, I am so happy that you are here! Can you believe that you’re here today?

Max: Haha, yes - I can. But I am honored to be here.

Megs: Max, sit with me. For those in the audience who may not know you, tell us about when and why you joined the fandom.

Max: Yanno, I always made my best guess at this before, but I knew you were going to ask me this - so I looked it up. Did you know that now there’s this Official Tumblr blog called @memories, and it knows down to the minute when someone joined? Let me go check it… *digs through the blogs posts* Okay, it was apparently 07/31/2017 at 1:17:15 PM, which means it must have been on the weekend because of the time of day haha.

As for why ... hmm, well… I found the Choices app one day, when it only had like… three series I think! Anyone else remember that time?

Megs: I do! Because I was playing Hollywood University I think I downloaded choices the day the app came out.

Max: Awh! Well, I fell in love with The Freshman Series. Mostly because of Chris Powell and Zack Zilberg, and a long time ago I was in another fandom that had tons of fan fiction/art… so I googled “Choices Chris Powell” and any other combination I could think of looking for possible fanfiction. The fandom was almost non existent at the time. There was actually one person, who has long since left the fandom due to fandom dramas - we all know the kinds I’m talking about - but a few others had started posting their works as well… and I got hooked. Eventually I felt the bug to write how I felt TF should play out as well, and here I am *looks back at the “joined tumblr timestamp”* uhh… 20ish months ago! Haha!!

Megs: LOL, when you put it that way it doesn’t sound like that long ago ... lets call a spade a spade - that was almost 2 years ago! That’s amazing! You have to have seen so much in this fandom! What is it that keeps you around?

Max: There are so many awesome people in this fandom, in this world we’ve all created for our pixelated loves lol. Soooo many creative minds to follow and enjoy. The content people share, original or repost… it’s great.

... Unfortunately it is also a double edge sword ... the drama, the jealousy, the rumors, the hate, etc. I’ve sadly seen far too much and it comes in so many forms… it’s unnecessary.

Megs: I couldn’t agree more! If you could tell the fandom one thing - what would it be?

Max: It would be that we’re all here because we want to have a good time. No one came here to get ridiculed, to be scrutinized or chastised for their opinions, their likes or dislikes. Real life has enough of that going on. We are all individuals - if you want to be treated nicely, fairly, etc. you must also do the same to others. There is no reason someone must agree with you or anyone else. Live and let live. Embrace our differences as it makes us who we are. Most of the issues I see stem from a simple difference in opinion. That is ridiculous. Everyone’s entitled to their own thoughts. We must build each other up, not tear one another down. No one here owes anyone anything, now go have some fun.

(The room stands up in applause!)

Megs: You should definitely stand up and take a bow, Max!

(Max does just as Megs suggests - but she also makes Megs stand up and do the same. Laughing, they both sit back down.)

Awh, Max ... okay, let’s get back to you. We know that you’d fight anyone for the position of The Chris Powell Appreciation/Fan Club. And for those who don’t know, Max has been retelling the full The Freshman series, interweaving dialogue and plot from PB but also adding much of her own content. MC and Chris get a backstory. Chris gets best friends from back home. What is your favorite piece that you have written?

Max: Oh geez hahaha. Um… can I just say The Freshman Chronicles as a whole? I’ve written for different fandoms, and I have original WIPs but I’ll stick to the Choices fandom for this answer. I’ve put a lot of time into TFC. Tons of additional story work, research on characters and their backgrounds, PBs and my own OCs. You should see my file folder setup haha. It’s crazy… I have so many docs, pictures and gifs. Most organized by location (Hartfeld, Boston, New Haven, Cherryfield, etc.), then by character… and on some I get more detailed and split them by emotion and situation.

Megs: By what again?

Max: Emotion and Situation ... Yeah. I warned you it was crazy! *laughs* TFC was the reason I joined tumblr really. Instead of staying a Nonny and only reading others posted works. I wanted to comment, like and reblog what I enjoyed, while I also worked on my own contribution to the fandom. I had a vision for Chris and MC that had more than the game could give, and I wanted to see if i was still any good at writing since it had been years and years… it’s funny to see how different my current posts are from my first over a year ago. Makes me want to go update a few because they could use a little help *awkward laugh*

Megs: I’m sure we can all relate to that! Hmmm ... I’m starting to get a feel for this, I think, but what is your writing process?

Max: Lots of planning, mostly in my head. When I feel like I have a decent concept I might type out some notes or work it into my outline (another crazy thing I have going for TFC because it’s so big haha). But usually, once I hatch out a basic plan on where I’m going… I just start typing. Keeping the general plot and main points I want to hit in mind, I simply start typing… keeping it as organic as possible. It usually works out well.

Megs: Do you have any advice for other writers?

Max: First, and most importantly… do it because you enjoy it. Don’t do it for likes, reblogs, popularity, etc. If you’re having a good time dreaming things up and typing them out, that’s what’s important. The rest is just an extra bonus. Also, don’t give up. It’s easy to become discouraged, frustrated, distracted and more… but remember - your creative cells can’t be running all the time. They need to rest just like your body. Take breaks… go read, play games, hang out with friends/family, watch a movie… whatever. Just do something to help you relax, to reset and you’ll very probably find inspiration and/or motivation to continue. Remember, this is for fun. *wink and finger guns*

Megs: So what do you do for fun?

Max: I actually have a few things I do regularly. A big one is making costumes/props for conventions, small productions, etc. I also train and show horses. I do the same with my dogs, but more for competitions and not really any shows. I’ve always drawn, sculpted, painted since I was old enough to hold things with my hands… and about a year ago I started learning how to do it digitally as well. I run (not at all for fun haha) and play hockey (totally for fun), follow comics and watch anime. I've restored houses, cars and old furniture. I like to read as much as I can - that’s an important one. I also play video games. Something I’ve done since I was young… I've even competed, and won, a few gaming tournaments.

Megs: You don’t know how to be bored do you?

Max: LOL, Megs. Yeah, um, so there’s a “few” *makes air quotes* of my never ending list of interests haha. Gives me a lot to talk about with people, eh?

Megs: Not that I can understand how you’d have time for this ... but what do you do to help pay for your many activities?

Max: Oh like, my job? Well that can be a simple answer… like “I work in software” but the more interesting way to say it is I use my MBA, experience in business, the financial industry and technology to improve and stabilize my customers environment through technological solutions that fit their specific needs. *presses lips together* I solve problems by designing solutions. Bored yet? Hahaha.

Megs: No! That sounds wonderful! Who doesn’t want their stuff to be designed better? Any chance you could start working for tumblr? Some of us have a few complaints ... tags ... mobile losing our work ...

Max: I’m not sure they could pay me enough to help them with all of their problems! But, tumblr, feel free to send me an offer!

Megs: Seriously - send her a 6 figure offer!

Megs: Uhhhh, Max, that’s not exactly how this is supposed to go.

Mobile Rules

Important Notes

My mini-muse navigation on the main bagel has links to individual bios! I did this so you can get a preview on my fucks and see if you're interested, if so then you can check out their full bio! Please note the trigger warning tags before the bios. Though not all of them will have them and some will have more than others, I make it a point to put these warnings above whatever bio needs them so you have ample warning before reading them. The links in the mobile version of the bagel are for mobile bound users! I try to make my bagels as accessible as possible!

Please specify what muse you want. If you're not sure or are indecisive, that's alright! Just please tell me "Random" and I will give you a random muse! However, if you don't tell me what muse you want or tell me to give you a random one, I get anxious because I'm not sure which one of my fucks you'd like to write with and worry if I'm writing up something for the wrong muse. So please, please, specify a muse or "Random" so we can avoid all that mess.

Since I've had this problem several times before across all my other bagels: If I've written you multiple starters and you haven't responded to a single one of them, I will not write you anymore. That is just.. Unreasonable. I will legitimately write you a starter for every single muse and you can pick and choose which ones you want to reply to, so to reply to none and then ask for another one? It just really gets under my skin and makes me question whether or not its my writing or if you just have no interest. I will rewrite a starter for you if you didn't like the one you got, no problem! So please, instead of leaving me on read, tell me if you want a different muse or a new starter. I really don't mind at all. But do not just ghost me and not tell me anything then expect me to write you more. That's just rude af, mate.

Non-Mutuals

Since I’ve had some troubles in the past about non-mutual starlings still liking starter calls or the like, I feel its necessary to address this issue first.

My lovely starlings, I will always adore you and I will come into your inbox all the time. I will send you Nonnies and HC questions. I appreciate and adore you very much! However, if I didn’t follow you back its likely because of very few reasons:

★ I want to keep my dash neat and organized and I can’t follow you (in good conscious because I will likely unfollow you soon after) if the content spread of your bagel is a bunch of varying things that I personally wouldn’t want on my dash or have no use for.

★ Your character is wonderful but I don’t think they could really interact well with my muse in a sense of actually interacting and not in a sense of different fandoms or the like. No, our muses don’t have to get along for us to interact but if your muse isn’t my cup of tea– Well I can’t see us interacting.

★ Our writing won’t work well together. I read a handful of threads when I go to check out your bagel and if I feel our writing won’t work well together, I can’t follow you because I don’t want to be the asshole who follows you then never interacts with you.

★ If I have no interest in writing with your muse I won’t follow you because, again, I really don’t want to be that asshole who follows but never interacts.

None of this is personal, okay? I love all you beautiful starlings and I really do appreciate you so much! You’re not too OOC (may I direct you to my constant bagel situation? Look at all that endless OOC.) You’re not a bad writer. You’re not anything bad at all! These are just my preferences!

This doesn’t mean we can never talk or interact, though! But here’s the rule of thumb:

★ Please do not send me asks or the like with Memes that aren’t relative to drabbles or HCs. Please do not send me asks or the like with inquiry to thread! I don’t want to have to tell you no, I’m really really bad at saying no, okay? And when I don’t say no, but I want to say no, I end up dropping threads and then no one feels good. Which is really not okay because I don’t want either of us not havin’ a good time!

Following

I take great measures to check your bagel out! I’ll read your writing, check all your pages and I’ll basically stalk your bagel for a bit before I decide on following you or not.

Please note though: Sometimes I can take a while to get to checking you out! This is because tumblr doesn’t notify me, I’m too busy working or I didn’t see the number change concerning my followers! Typically I’ll post when I’m checking new starlings out though!

If you’re going to follow me, please note that I do tag everything as extensively as possible. If you need something tagged with a custom tag, please let me know! I’ll take care of it!

Tagging in general: I always tag all forms of NSFW (Nudity, Violence, etc) as “Kettledrums //“ and I always tag Water, Blades, Eye contact, Scars and other things as “water //” etc.

Unfollowing

If I unfollow you, don’t come at me asking why. Don’t come at me interrogating me for reasons as to why I unfollowed you. If we’re close friends or if we’ve always been following each other and suddenly I’m not following you, then yes, please IM me because I’m p sure that tumblr fucked up somewhere there.

But if not? Don’t come at me with that please. I am a very anxious person and I really don’t want to have to deal with that.

The same goes for you unfollowing me though! I won’t come at you for it! Its your decision who you follow, not mine! I understand completely and you do you sugar!

Threads

My threads vary in length but generally they tend to get long all on their own. Even if it starts off with just a sentence or something, it usually evolves into paragraphs within a few replies.

I don’t mind length matching. You don’t have to match my length and you definitely don’t have to try to make it longer just to keep up. I want you to have fun writing and if you can only give me two paras on a three or four para reply, that’s fine. However, if I’ve given you six paragraphs and you only give me one, I’m likely to lose interest in the thread unless I’m told that you’re having writer’s block or something.

The reason for that is because when the reply length drops that dramatically, it makes me feel as though you have no interest in it. If I think you don’t have any interest in it, I’m not going to make you continue it. If you want to drop a thread with me, let me know! We can always have a thousand threads and only ever really do two of them. I mean, it happens a lot pfft.

The point is: Relax. Threads are meant to be fun after all!

Muse

PLEASE DO NOT EQUATE ME TO MY MUSE. However, whatever similarities may arise between us: I AM NOT MY MUSE. Anything they may do or say is not necessarily supported by me.

Shipping

I am multi-ship but I ship on chemistry. We can talk about shipping our muses all day long though! If you wanna ship with me, let me know! Just kick my inbox door down and say “HEY FUCKFACE LETS SHIP” and I will be down for discussing it!

Hi! My gifs are coming out grainy on tumblr mobile even tho I'm using 1080 quality vids for giffing? Any tips/advice? None of your gifs are ever grainy! Also love your blog!!!

Sure, i’ll give it a go but please keep in my mind that I am horrible at explaining things so I apologise in advance lmao

To start of with, I’d say to maybe check you aren’t sharpening your frames too much. I stick with these settings and they work best for me:

On a side note, what I used to do if I wanted a gif to be extra smooth or glossy was duplicate the gif (layer > duplicate layer) and apply gaussian blur to the duplicate (filter > blur > gaussian blur) and set it to 1 px. I then used to play around with the opacity of the duplicate depending on the gif but usually set it between 20% and 40%. You could try this out if glossy gifs are something you are interested in :)

When it comes to adjustment layers, I try not to add too many (like lots of Selective Colour layers etc.) as I feel that messing around with that too much can add more grain to your gifs. These are the basics that I use for the majority of my gifs at the moment:

Another tip I would say would be not to overly brighten your gifs. When you overdo this it can look a lot more grainy. I mess around with the levels until I get the gif to the overall brightness that I want and then add a bit of exposure and teeny tiny bit of gamma correction. Tip. it can be handy to use the auto tool in levels first and then play around with it if you feel you need to:

I keep previewing the gif in Save For Web until I am happy that there isn’t too much grain etc. The gifs may not always be as bright as I would have originally liked them, but I personally prefer them being a little bit darker instead of being overly grainy (how many times am I going to use that word lmao).

The selective colour layers I play around with are usually just Black and Neutrals. I try to stay within the +1 to 15 range with them and any selective colour layer I use. If I want to add colour, most of the time I use a photo filter or colour balance but when I do use other selective colour laters, I don’t go too over the top with it as messing with the colours too much can increase grain as well!

Lastly, I try my best to save my gifs as:

This is frustrating at times because you often have to limit your frames to make sure it is under tumblr’s capacity. Diffusion (as well as adding lossy) can look okay on some gifs but I find that on others it looks a lot grainier (it really can depend on what you are giffing so try out both!) but I try to stay with Adaptive Pattern whenever possible.

Hopefully this is of some help to you and I actually made sense somewhere in there haha. Let me know if you need anymore help!

So, it’s that time again!

I originally intended to wait longer with my next post like this, but then again I’d only have waited because I would want to avoid having to face my shyness by doing this here. So, instead of waiting, I decided to go ahead with this number.

I have reached another number, that will be mentioned once but only below the cut for those that don’t like people talking about their amount of followers.

This is incredibly hard for me, but I had big plans for my next post and I intend to stick to those plans. It will get very long below the cut, so be warned when you click.

Short version:

Thank you all for following me and thus being interested in my Star and/or my writing!

I apologize if any of the ones that I’ll list below are currently on hiatus or inactive or anything, I don’t intend to force you back or something, I just wanted to say how I feel about your blog, and also try to word how thankful I am, and/or say a few nice words which I never would have the courage to say otherwise.

One more thing: Please don’t measure the length or compare it to the others. I can’t say exactly the same amount of things to everyone, and I also don’t wanna repeat ‘cliche-y’ terms for every single one of you. I only wanna write the most important things I feel about you, so please don’t be mad for getting fewer lines than someone else or something.

Also, to those that had already been mentioned in the last post I did of this (half a year ago or so), forgive me if something I say sounds very similar.

So! On with the list. I plan to mention almost every mutual I have down here, if I left you out I apologize. I go by the ‘followers’ list of tumblr, so it could be that it isn’t showing me everything right now or I simply missed one while going through the list. I still value you though! Oh, or, if I can see the dates of posts, and you haven’t posted anything within say the last two months or so, I’ll not mention you either. (I’ll also leave out ones like, that are posting news of something and likely only followed me back to... I don’t know, to be polite or something?)

Before I start: Thank you for allowing me to have reached 400 followers!

EDIT: If you got a notification but can’t find yourselves on the list, I am so very sorry! I had more people on the list at first, but then removed a few as I was working on it for various reasons (my shyness the most prominent one, inactivity being another and/or also if I just didn’t really know what to write), and tumblr seems to have sent out notifications nonetheless! I am very very truly sorry, I still value you very much!

@frozenloyalty: I think you’ve been following me for a very long time already, and I don’t understand why but I think tumblr has already made me unfollow you a few times, so first off, my apologies if you have recieved follow-notices more than once from me over the time. I’m not that indecisive about who I follow, and I really hate it when I after some time find out that I’m not following someone anymore. I actually don’t know anything about Xiaolin, but nonetheless I really like your character and I really enjoy the things you write! Not to mention you also have an Aqualad, and I think you’re doing him greatly and I always like to read the things you put on my dash!

@the-boy-wcnder: I think I mentioned in my last of these kind of posts already how much I enjoy to talk to you OOC? I don’t have many that I actually talk to about things sometimes, and you’re definitely one of those few! That means a lot for me, and while I’m not using Skype anymore which leaves basically only IMs on here (and tags on posts), I still appreciate it highly everytime we talk! Then there’s of course also the thing about the thread with the tamaranean staff; I’m so glad that you actually liked that idea/concept of mine! I very much enjoyed the interactions we had so far, and - this isn’t to force you to be active again or anything for I know that your last post has been a while but it’s still withing the 2 months I’ve set as ‘limit’ to when someone has to have been active to be included in here - I’m sure there’ll be many more great ones to come!

@shiningdream: I don’t know a thing about Pretty Cure in general, maybe aside from the fact that it is about magical girls. But from what I’ve seen, I really like Nozomi! And since I have never seen anything from it, that must be thanks to your writing! She seems like a wonderful character, I’m happy to be able to follow the things you write and learn more about her in that way, and even more happy that you are actually following me back!

@sorcxrxss: I don’t remember the name of the blog anymore (you had a different back then I know that), but I remember that we ‘met’ very early in my starting on here. I won’t forget that, and it always makes me happy when I notice that we’re still mutuals!

@riverborne: What a wonderful character Mnemosyne seems to be! I think I have told you that somewhere before (in my last ‘thank you’-thing? or maybe IM? I can’t say anymore), but you definitely made me enjoy her and that even though I never watched Sailor Moon far enough to actually know the character! Thanks for still following me, it means a lot!

Tsubasa is a really great character (and I assumed she would be a canon character at first since I have no idea about the fandom), and I so much appreciate that you were the one to make the first step for us to interact! @gottakeepemall: I think we talked somewhere once? Anyway! I haven’t watched Pokemon far enough to actually know about Bonnie, but from what I’ve seen thanks to you I absolutely adore her! I really like seeing you on my dash, and it makes me happy to know that you are still following me, too!

@apocalypsxmaidxn: I know I suck at communicating, and I feel like I’m way too often not responding anymore when we start talking through IM, and for that I’m very very sorry! I feel like we’d have interacted a lot already, but I think there wasn’t actually that much we did (yet)? We certainly should do more things together!

I have no idea how a meeting would actually work if we ever were to interact, but I’m definitely not against it happening someday!

@grimmtime: Having a Grimm as an actual... uh, how do I say it, as an actual thinking being is such a interesting idea! While Starfire and Grimm maybe didn’t have the best start at their meeting, it was a very interesting and most enjoyable one!

@rosesofflame: A very interesting OC! I really like to watch you on my dash, and it’s making me feel even better to know we’re mutuals! I’m having much too big problems to actually approach people, otherwise I think I woud’ve had tried to start something with you a while ago already!

@littlestarmaiden: Another wonderful OC! I really like the concept, and from what I’ve seen on my dash of you I like your character as well!

@problem-free: Lion King! I can’t say I’d have watched it multiple times or can remember every detail of scenes of it or anything, but what I do know is that I enjoyed it very much and one of the things I remembered the most was Timon and Pumbaa! I’ve been quietly watching your blog for a while now already (I think it’s at least a few months that we’re mutuals already? Or if not then it at least feels like it), and in my opinion you’re doing a really amazing Timon!

@valieente: Meeting a talking cat has made Starfire extremely happy! Aside from that, I always liked Puss, and to then find one on here that’s doing such a good job RPing as him was wonderful! I’m really glad we met and I’m so happy to be able to interact with you! Hello Liss. This is Fairy Godmother. I am gathering information on behalf of King Ben to all Heroes, Villains, and their Descendants; asking them what they think of Auradon University. Could I please ask you for your opinion on our establishment, so that I may take notes on how we can better improve it? Thank you.

AN OPINION FOR: auradonurp.

Please keep in mind that all statements below the cut reflect only my subjective opinion.

THEME: I’m not sure how I feel about the color scheme here. It works for me in the graphics, but the theme looks like it clashes. I would maybe consider more grey and less blue, or change it up and make the background grey or blue and the accents red. This theme is pretty basic and not the most eye-catching to me personally, but I’ll talk about how the graphics play into that below.

GRAPHICS: The graphics are nice, and spice up the theme. I particularly like the custom-made admin GIFs. They make the posts look neater and tie the page together. I also like the header. I don’t really recognize anything that’s in it (I’ve never seen Descendants so maybe I just can’t pick it out), except for the people to the right, but it just looks nice. The colors are pretty and the red is perfectly scattered throughout the image. I’m not as big a fan of the sidebar graphic. It doesn’t hold as much substance to me, and rather than the red being sprinkled on it like in the header, it’s all in one very aggressively red spot. I don’t think it’s necessary for both of the graphics to have the roleplay name on them, and I think it makes more sense for the header to have it. I also don’t like the font used for the roleplay name. I think something a little bit neater would look better. Similarly, I definitely think the navigation graphic having the roleplay name is overkill, but I like the graphic itself. It also has the red peppered throughout and each part of it looks pretty. As for the skeleton graphics, they all look really nice on their own, with their little pops of color. Together, they seem a little bit disjointed, but it’s not bad since they’re all so different. I would reconsider the graphic for Mal, as the green text doesn’t match anything in the picture. The character pages look nice, some nicer than others based on how well the colors work together. I actually like that each character has their own color scheme. The graphics for the dorm rooms are nice too, but the text isn’t properly justified. The text should all either be centered or all the way to the left or right. The app count graphic is one of my favorites, simple but very pretty and interesting.

DESCRIPTION: I like that the description includes basic information about the type of RP and age requirements so that potential applicants can know right away if this is the right kind of RP for them. I would personally put the info that you have in the first chunk of your description at the end, and have your ‘actual’ description come first. The description seems to succinctly explain what the premise of the RP is and what makes your RP different than other Descendants RPs.

NAVIGATION: I like the navigation. I like that the partial navigation fits perfectly into your theme. It includes the most important links, and it seems like someone could apply without having to go to the full navigation at all. The full navigation includes a lot of good extra information, though. I will say that in the ‘after acceptance’ section the blockquote is broken and the line shows up in pieces instead of just being one smooth line. I don’t really know how to better describe it but you should be able to see what I mean. All of the links work and lead to the proper page!

PLOT IDEA: I’ll preface this by saying I’ve never seen Descendants, I don’t know what it’s about or anything about the characters. But this seems like an idea that probably hasn’t been done. I think RPs that are based around something Internet-related like this can be really interesting. The plot also gives writers the opportunity to delve into the character in a completely new way.

PLOT WRITING: First off, I feel like each word in “bringing it down” should be capitalized. The sentence about King Ben doesn’t make sense to me. It says he’s caught up with “this learning”, but I don’t know what “this learning” is. You also have the word ‘villain’ capitalized only some of the time–consistency is key and makes the page look neater. Otherwise, I think the writing is good. The second paragraph is sort of lost on me since I haven’t seen it and am not really into Disney, but it seems to explain the situation well. The summary brings up something about the king taking courses, which isn’t mentioned in the actual plot and doesn’t make sense to me, probably because I haven’t seen it. Beyond that it provides important information. The only other change I’d make is putting a period at the end of the very last sentence (the link).

GUIDELINES: First of all, these rules are very long. I would try to shorten them. People are likely to just skim them, and since the password is right at the bottom, they don’t have to read carefully to get it. On multiple occasions, you mention that muns under the age of 18 should not participate in NSFW plots or interactions. However, you also state that muns must be 18+, so that rule is irrelevant. I would take it out to shorten up the rules a little bit. I think it’s a little weird that you’ll allow face claim changes for certain characters but possibly not for others because a certain admin chose them. I don’t think players should be limited only to icons, as many people prefer small GIFs instead and can find more/better resources that way. I know you have a resource blog, but there are still many more options if you allow regular GIFs as well. You link to xkit in the rules with no explanation. Maybe say something like “Please cut your posts! If you don’t know how, download xkit and come to the main with any questions you may have!” I’m not sure your reasoning for not allowing sideblogs, but I would reconsider that rule, personally. It makes it much more difficult to remain active on multiple characters. Your shipping section is very long and could probably be shortened into just a few sentences. All you need to say is that no canon ships are canon in the RP, no canon ships are required to happen in the RP, and forcing ships is against the rules. The NSFW and triggers sections could probably be combined into one, as self-harm and depression are triggers. There are also two misspellings–”before hand” should be “beforehand”, and “insure” should be “ensure”.

APPLICATION: First of all, I love that you guys have a site you can use to apply??? I think that’s so cool. But it’s also cool that you allow people to just apply through Tumblr if they prefer that. I like that you let applicants put whatever they want as a writing sample, whether it be a bio or a para or whatnot. It doesn’t make sense to me to say “No reason why they’re (positive traits). It would make more sense to me to say “No reason why they’re (negative traits). It’s unusual to not allow a muse to be any older than their faceclaim. Most RPs implement a 5-year difference rule, which allows more flexibility for muns. The app goes from asking the mun questions (“what is your muse’s biggest fear?”) to asking the muse questions (”what high school did you graduate from?”) without any warning or separation of the sections. It doesn’t change anything, but makes it seem kind of inconsistent. When you ask for the major, the wording is kind of confusing. I would maybe say “What is your major? If you’ll be double majoring, please place both of your majors here.” Asking immediately about double majors makes it seem like you’re only asking about double majors. I think it’s kind of strange to have muns write out connections to characters they haven’t plotted with yet–it’s almost like godmodding? What happens if the person who takes up one of those characters doesn’t want that connection? There’s also one small typo where you said “ship” instead of “skip”.

CHARACTERS: I like the character pages a lot. They’re really cute and the different color schemes give each character a bit of, well, character. The connections section is helpful and the social media section gives a little personality. The theme of the character page itself is very basic, which is great because that means it doesn’t look way different from your main theme and clash. It also makes everything very neat. I just checked and it’s actually pretty mobile accessible, you just have to zoom in.

OTHER PAGES:

FAMILIES: The first thing I noticed was that both ‘heroes’ and ‘villains’ are spelled wrong on this page. I’m not sure why the page lists so many people that aren’t available characters, but I may just be missing why that’s important because I’ve never seen it.

APP COUNT: I normally wouldn’t even bother bringing up the app count page, however I think yours is really cute! I would avoid labelling the characters by gender here, though, since someone could apply for a character and change their gender to non-binary.

CLASSES: It doesn’t make sense to me that Algebra is available only to juniors and seniors, when a lot of people come into college as a freshman already starting at a higher level of math than that. There’s also a couple of classes under ‘general’ that should probably be under ‘magic’.

MAJORS AND MINORS: I think there should be a wider selection, or at least a note stating that muns can choose a major or minor that isn’t listed. There are two typos–no space between “Voodoo Magic” and “Or an emphasis” (this could also be made into one sentence if you wanted), and “there focus” instead of “their focus”.

BLOGROLL: You have two ways to follow everyone in your navigation, and both of them are inconvenient. You should use your /followed/by/ link instead so that muns can just go down the line and follow everyone instead of opening up each blog. I know you link to that in your checklist, but it should be in the navigation, too.

DORMS: This includes the most important basic information about what the rooms are like. I think it’s pretty unrealistic for a college dorm room to have two separate bathrooms, but who said a RP has to be realistic?

OVERALL: A couple little things that didn’t fit into any of the other sections–only some of your pages have titles, others don’t. It makes the pages look inconsistent. I personally think the pages look a lot better with titles than without, so I would add titles to all of the pages. I also see you’ve been tagging your posts with ‘appless RP’--this isn’t an appless RP and shouldn’t be in that tag. Anyway, moving on! I don’t know much about Descendants RPs, but this seems like an original idea, and a fun one to write about. The graphics overall look nice and consistent. I think the pages you have up include a lot of information about the RP and are easy to follow. I love that you have both resource and inspo blogs to help applicants and muns, and again, I adore the application site! The admins seem very active, which is key to a thriving RP. There are a few tweaks that could be made, but I think this is a pretty strong RP!

Using the SERP to build your keyword list

Keyword lists keeping you up at night? We feel you — and so does every other SEO. There’s a lot that goes into producing a robust keyword list and having one can make the difference between seeing the whole SERP landscape or getting just a glimpse.

Because we care about how much sleep you’re getting (a healthy eight hours, please), we whipped up a useful guide on our favourite way to keyword list-build, and all you need are three SERP features: the “People also ask” box, related searches, and the “People also search for” box.

We’ll explain why you should give these features a test drive and how you can get your hands on all their Google-vetted queries for the ultimate, competition-crushing keyword list.

Google-approved search terms

Each of these features are keyword goldmines — all three of them link to new SERPs from terms that are semantically related to the searcher’s original query. As a result, they provide excellent insight into how users follow-up, narrow down, or refine their searches and reveal relevant topics that may be overlooked.

Google has put a lot of effort (and dollars) into understanding and mapping how topics and queries are linked, and these SERP features are the direct result of all that research — Google is literally pointing you to how and what everyone is searching. Which is why we dig them so much.

The “People Also Ask”

You’re probably quite familiar with this accordion-like feature. The “People also ask” box contains questions related to the searcher’s initial query, which then expand to reveal answers that Google has pulled from other websites.

Not only are PAA questions excellent long-tail additions to your keyword set, they’re also a great resource for content inspiration. The various ways that they express the same basic question can help you expand on topics — one piece of content could easily answer PAA questions such as “What a photographer needs to get started?” and “What tools do I need to be a photographer?”

Just try not to fall down the query rabbit hole. While the PAA box used to surface anywhere from one to four Q&A combos, most are “infinite” now and can easily multiply into the hundreds — giving you a seemingly endless supply of SERPs to track.

Just where are all these questions coming from, though? Are people actually asking them? If you read our previous write up on the PAA, you’ll know that Google is not always selecting these questions based on actual searched queries, as some return zero search volume when tracked.

If that wasn’t enough to raise our eyebrows, errant capitalization or non-capitalization (“how many mm are there in one Metre?”), wonky grammar (“Is aperture and f stop the same thing?”), and odd follow-up question choices (“how do you take a selfie?” for the query [easy to use digital camera]) suggest that many PAA questions are the result of machine learning.

In other words, Google is doing its darndest to understand actual search queries and spit out relevant subsequent searches to save users the effort. And it makes sense for us to be on those SERPs when searchers decide to take them up on the offer.

In order to capture all the goodies hiding in a PAA, we created a handy report. For each of your keywords that return a PAA box, our .CSV report will list the questions “also asked” (don’t worry, you’ll only get the number of PAAs that exist before things get infinitely overwhelming) and the URLs that Google sourced the answers from, plus the order they appear in.

After we ran the report for our Nikon queries, we found ourselves looking at 2,838 potential new keywords. A quick scan revealed that many of our PAA boxes returned the same questions over and over again (65.57 percent were duplicates), so we set about removing those. This narrowed our PAA keyword list down to 977 topically related queries to explore.

I just have the regular Tumblr app, if that’s what you mean. You mentioned Tumblr Savior a while back and I’ve been meaning to check it out. I’m not sure if I understand exactly what you mean, but is it like … I’m guessing, does Tumblr have metrics designed to affect that based on hearts and reblogs and such?

Chibi!Oni (I love this nickname btw): Tumblr Savior is an app you download from your app store (in my case, for Chrome, since that’s my browser). It lets you select words and phrases to block from your feed. If you didn’t want to see my Fairy Tail posts, you’d install the app and add “fairy tail” to your blacklist (you can also whitelist things). It’s a simple app to use, but I don’t know how it works on your phone. (And the tumblr feed is completely in order of posting by time/date.)

On the message in my inbox where you tagged me for ten things that make me happy, should I just copy that and paste it into a new post? Or do I reply to the message … I think you’ve explained something similar before, but it wasn’t this exact thing.

I need to learn formatting on Tumblr. Because when I did the post for the last ten songs thing you tagged me in, I typed it like a list with 1. Song, then hit Return … so that it appeared as a numbered list, lined up, you know? But the actual post ended up with it all squished together…

Chibi!Oni: I don’t know why it would do that. L Did you do it as a reblog or as a new post? For tag memes (as opposed to “ask memes” in your ask box), you would normally make your own new post. One thing to mention here, since you also ask about pictures: on a computer you can reblog and add pictures; on a mobile you can’t, it’s really, really annoying. If you make a new post then you have CHOICES! You can either put all your photos in at the top (make it a photo post) or you can make it a “text post” (the basic one) in which case you can put photos wherever you want, but only one on a particular line (the photo post lets you put up to three on a line, but only in the “top” part of the post).

The only easy way for your pictures not to get messed up when you use the “photo post” option and put photos on the same line is for them to be the same or almost the same size. I have this problem with my transparent renders all the time (you’ll see that some look “bigger” than others—it’s usually because some chibi pictures are narrower than others).

NOTE: If I’m just posting images, I try to use something basic like paint to get the same size. That messes up transparents, though, and I haven’t mastered making transparent backgrounds to a certain size (as opposed to being just around the image itself).

I’m also realizing that this message is gonna disappear once I reply. Oh, well.
