Preview for this week's chapter of The Maiden and the Drowning Boy! We pick up right after last chapter to a different type of family dinner. And also I promise, Abby's POV is back and it's a worthy valentine's day edition ;)

“You never used to be this reckless.”

“Well I also used to have two eyes and we all know how that went,” he snapped back and the footsteps stopped abruptly. His voice went softer. “I apologize, heltar gevie. I do not mean to take my frustrations out on you.”

Footsteps resumed, lighter ones, before the heavier footfalls followed. “Yes, you do,” Helaena said firmly. “You never apologize, and attempting to do so changes nothing.”

“I can do better, Helaena.”

“You can, and so you should, Aemond.” Helaena’s voice was anxious. “But not because you think it will change anything. I meant it. I simply want my brother back, and I know in your heart it is what you want to, whether you admit it or not.”

Aemond made a low sound in the back of his throat and Jace held his breath as his uncle’s shoulder appeared in view. It was by the grace of whatever gods looked over him that his blind eye was to the alcove and so he could not see. He was clad all in black, his straight, silver hair falling just past his shoulders, pulled back from his face with three braids. Around the side, Jace could barely catch the glimpse of blue, but he could see Helaena’s smaller shadow cast on the ground.

His uncle continued down the hall towards the solar, leaving Helaena standing in the patch of torchlight. Her gown was pale blue, with shimmers of silver thread woven through the fabric in the shape of dragons. A wide, silver belt cinched about the waist and the two swathes of blue fabric covered her but left an expanse of pale skin from her sternum to her bared collarbones. The gown had another silver clasp at each shoulder to keep the fabric in place and Jace’s eyes fixated on the dark little moles dotted across the skin she revealed. Her curls hung free around her shoulders and down to her waist, a loose net of winking diamond and pearls covering her hair like a makeshift veil. Starlight in the night.

She blinked and turned her head slightly and Jace swore that their eyes met. Lavender and lavender. Then, Helaena spun on her heel and followed her brother down the hallway.

“I do not wish to be here among all the dramatics,” Baela muttered as the pair of them followed a distance behind Helaena’s drifting blue form. Jace rolled his eyes.

“As if home is any better?” he said rhetorically. In some ways yes, in other ways, there was little escaping his mother and Daemon’s more passionate arguments that would carry across the castle. It got a chuckle from Baela, so Jace considered it a win.

Twelve Thoughts About Laws of Attraction

 

These people brutally and bloodily killed a kid and a dog in the first 3 episodes...damn! And look, I love a hot, service top bodyguard and his bratty misunderstood charge story as much as the next person but Tan? Had a dog killed so, he’s not getting that much sympathy from me here. 

Maya and Rose are so hot I want to cry. The very specific vibes they are giving, Maya -Pink and Rose -Gemma Atherton in St Trinians, push all my buttons. Sorry Charn and Tinn but every time they are on the screen my brain melts and I don’t know what else is happening. 

Charn needs to be on Game of Thrones, House of Cards, or Succession(I have watched none of these shows but I assume he would fit right in)something fitting his wicked grin and scheming soul. Like the show tells me he was a sweet and naïve do-gooder until the big bad thing happened, but that was clearly his good twin who died in the woods. His mother might be ashamed but Jimmy Ford would buy him an ice cream. (Found out his nickname is Chaos Gremlin and I can’t think of anything more suitable than that.)

The shirt game in this series is fire.

Also fire? The chemistry. 4A fire. Like I get now why people are obsessed with acting pairs(I hate the toxicity involved but I get the love). It’s like fanfic. I would watch these two as a couple in a 100 different a/u stories as long as Rose and Maya (and Nawin) were along for the ride.  

Between this and The Sign, I realized that every story needs a grandmother(or more than one) to tell these characters to get their ish together. KP desperately needed a grandmother. 

Pretty predictable plot (elevated way, way up by the performances) and toooooo many flashbacks. Seriously, please stop with the flashbacks, especially since they are mostly Charn’s dead mother or Tinn’s dead niece. Be more depressing, I dare you.  (I would pay good money to see Nawin meeting completely feral Charn for the first time and falling head over heels though --that’s  the flashback we need folks)

Rich kids with crappy parents need to learn how to hustle and embezzle money from them so they can get gone. Seriously, just buy a ton of jewelry and designer clothes and resell it all. Will they even notice? I’m guessing not. 

Look, I know the Senator is evil like the fru -ets of the devil but he reminds me of a young Temuera Morrison, so he’s also kind of hot? 

 I just really want a KP/LOA crossover where Charn and Vegas have a wardrobe and smirk off competition and Nawin brings all the violent himbo energy to visit the Threepanyakuls -- especially Tankhun. 

The goons did not sign up for all this relationship drama.

Okay, but I need a new Leverage international team with Charn, Rose, Maya, Tin, Thee, and Nawin. 

Bonus -genuine kudos to them for not going the “Charn is a completely redeemed angel now ” route and for not making that something that was required for Charn and Tin to work as a couple. Tin fell in love with chaos gremlin Charn, not the one he was before.

OMG

Okay soooo much to unpack already.

First of all, these episodes are getting scarier and scarier by the minute, and yes, I do have all of my lights on thank you very much.

Second of all, OMG the way Scott looked at his mom in that moment when she saved Danny...the admiration on that boy's face, OMG. Scott and Melissa seriously have one of the best parent-child relationships I have ever seen (Stiles and Noah are right up there too <3), and that moment just...SENT me. The way she was immediately willing to do anything she had to to save him not just because she's awesome, but because she knew how much he meant to Scott, and the way Scott just looked at her like she was the coolest person on the planet...AHHH that was so good and so sweet!

Then you add to that him and Isaac "watching over her" in case she was the third sacrifice. I mean, that scene is so sweet for so many reasons--the boys being worried about her, BOTH of them being there, Melissa calling them "boys"--but also SO freaking funny--"You were on watch last." "No you were on watch last." "I may have been on watch last."....AHHH I LOVE THIS LITTLE FAMILY SO MUCH!!!

Third of all, BRO I CANNOT BELIEVE that I didn't even THINK about Deaton. Thank GOD he has Scott in his corner, or he would probably die, but no, he'll be fine (and I'm sure of it!), because he DID call Scott, and he DID have time to warn him, and now Scott and Stiles and probably Isaac and whoever else joins the group are all gonna go save him and maybe actually get some answers (HOPEFULLY get some answers), so it'll be FINE. Okay? He'll be FINE!

Anyways.

The thing this definitely proves, however, is that the Darach knows that Scott and pack (yes, I said Scott and pack--sue me) are onto it, because it's officially endangering people that matter to Scott. It followed its code by killing the two hospital doctors that night, but it attempted to deal a blow to Scott in the process by putting Danny in danger and then killing all the people that would be able to save him--and thank god for Melissa in that moment.

That said, even though the boys fell asleep, Melissa would be too hard to take or hurt, because both Scott and Isaac were RIGHT there, so it makes sense that it didn't go after Melissa, and instead went after Deaton, who's pretty much like a father figure to Scott at this point--can't take one parent, gotta take the other.

My point in all of this is, this is bad, and I hope Scott and pack figure it out soon so that we don't lose the entire pack (and then some) to this stupid evil entity who really wants to specifically hurt Scott at this point.

Season 3, Episode 7. Let's keep going.

(I definitely saw a clip of this somewhere and I don't think I'm to this episode yet, but this mother and son gif is too adorable not to put on here. I love them so much. <3)

Sometimes you just have one of those moments where the progress we've made as a culture get thrown into stark relief. You look at something and go "Holy shit, that would never have happened when I was a kid."

Today, I had one of those moments when I realized that the teenage boys I'm working with are just. genuinely, openly enthusiastic about going to Build-a-Bear for their outing.

These are sixteen and seventeen year old boys! They just had a whole conversation about what to name their "cute", mostly new squishmallows! They're genuinely excited that they're going to Build-a-Bear this weekend and asking other kids to pick up specific accessories for them!!

Holy shit, that never would've happened when I was 16. None of the boys would have dared to be visibly interested - and neither would most of the girls! There would have been a million gay jokes and "Haha, you're a girl" jokes and "What are you, a baby?" jokes. Teenagers weren't even supposed to care about anything back then!

Less than 15 years later, and I'm watching three 17 year old boys treat all that as not even worthy of comment.

So let's call that a reason for hope. Even when the kids aren't alright, in some ways apparently they are alright. Go Gen Z, honestly. It's so lovely to watch you guys just openly doing and saying stuff that, when I was a teen, would've been a social death sentence.

- oh this was a subconscious choice, but Gale is sitting in seiza which is a posture for showing respect especially to elders. it's also known to be a painful position to sit in for extended periods of time, which is why it was sometimes used as a method of (morally dubious) punishment. however, experienced people can maintain this posture for much longer. food for thought :-)
