This might feel slim by today’s understanding of Indigenous ancientness, but in the 1950s and 1960s, scientific dating confirmed Australia’s human history reached well beyond any sort of written archival record. Moving Australian History into the deep past, thousands of years before colonisation brought with it Western forms of history-making, established a radical new timescale for the discipline. [...] As well as comprehending that colossal timescale, there has been the challenge of how to acknowledge and translate the understandings and experiences of time held by Australia’s First Peoples. [...] In Stanner’s 1956 essay, “The Dreaming”, he attempted to tease out a translation of Indigenous temporality. [...] “One cannot ‘fix’ The Dreaming in time: it was, and is, everywhen.”
Over 50 years later, that commitment to translation and conversation is the focus of an impressive collection of essays, Everywhen, edited by Ann McGrath, Laura Rademaker and Jakelin Troy. “The concept of everywhen,” they explain, “unsettles the way historians and archaeologists have conventionally treated time — as a linear narrative that moves toward increasing progress and complexity.”
“We take ‘deep history’ to include the histories that long precede modernity, the medieval era and the few thousand years generally known as ancient history”, McGrath and Rademaker explain in the book’s introduction. But this is more than simply going back in time, they add: we consider that deep history is largely Indigenous history, so it cannot be slotted into European history’s existing archival boxes or temporalities. [...]
---
Clint Bracknell describes various Noongar words for time and the past, including the illuminating term nyidiŋg, which means “long ago/cold” – pointing perhaps to a cultural memory of the last Ice Age.
Ngarigu woman and linguistic anthropologist Jakelin Troy locates time in Country itself. “We do not see ourselves as being in a solely terrestrial space”, she offers.
Land, water, and sky all connect as one space, and the stories of ancestral figures and the creation of features on the land, in the water, and in the sky are all connected.
Shannon Foster, a D’harawhal knowledge keeper, also explores the uniqueness of D’harawhal historical connections that sit outside Western conceptions of linear time. “There is no purpose for us as D’harawhal people to know a time or an age”, Foster insists. “Dates add nothing to our culture … We know their value. It has nothing to do with time”.
Specific terms shared in the book, such as the well-cited word jukurrpa in Warlpiri, as well as bugarrigarra (from the Yawuru language in the West Kimberley), and amalawudawarra (from Anindilyakwa, on Groote Island) confirm the encompassing, fluid and cosmological hues of Indigenous languages that meld time and place through Ancestors and Country. [...]
---
The ethical imperative of this exercise in translation and conversation drives the collection. As McGrath and Rademaker explain, for most of the 20th century the way many national histories were taught in schools and publicly memorialised was as if nothing much happened until Europeans arrived. [...]
“Time” has been a critical component of that colonising architecture, as Dipesh Chakrabarty and Priya Satiya have shown —  determining Indigenous people had “no time”, or existed outside historical, linear time (and therefore outside historical “progress”). [...] This was “a country without a yesterday”, the writer Godfrey Charles Mundy insisted in 1852. [...]
===
There is an explicit sense in this volume of the obligation to recover the deep past and engage Indigenous temporalities, without relegating them to a sort of “dreamtime” that is only mystical and spiritual. Critically, it also highlights the generosity of Indigenous historians, writers and knowledge-keepers [...].
Or, indeed, if they should be: I couldn’t help but wonder, does the history discpline’s reach into Indigenous deep time threaten to colonise a space which has so far eluded Western epistemology? (Although, the cost of not trying might be even worse.) [...]
The ethical demand to engage with, acknowledge and include Indigenous forms of history has extended the discipline into new, albeit sometimes challenging, epistemological territory around the world.
---
Headline, images, captions, and text as published by: Anna Clark. “’Dates add nothing to our culture’: Everywhen explores Indigenous deep history, challenging linear, colonial narratives.” The Conversation. 8 March 2023. [Some paragraph breaks and contractions added by me.]

Reincarnation!AU.
Got inspired by one of the arts of @tamelee yet again.
It's modern era. Around 2010.
Sasuke — a student, studying photography. He's quite a shy, yet witted and promising young man. At least, that's what people tell him. He's not sure about himself. About his choice of life.
He feels out of place. Like he doesn't belong in this time, universe, whatever he can call it. Sasuke doesn't have anything to worry about, since his parents are well off, his brother and sister are working abroad to bring in even more money and reputation for the Uchiha.
Sasuke feels like he's too ungrateful. A lot of people only dream about this lifestyle, being able to not only have a food on the table, but also recieve a proper education.
Sasuke takes a habit of wondering into museums, art galleries and such. He feels more at piece, more connected to the people of the ancient times.
Reaching a section of the ancient countries, he sees an exibit of something which makes his fingers twitch with something he never felt before.
Leaders of their own lands. Great people, who were able to change the track of the world. One of them catches Uchiha's eye. A tall, obviously handsome face, with good stature, wide shoulders and eyes looking straight ahead with confidence. Sasuke can't help himself. He touches the hand, in which a bandage is carved. He looks at the striped markings, something flashing before his eyes. For some reason, tears appear on his face. He feels a resemblance, a sense of longing.
He doesn't even know his name. Yet, he misses him. Like they were closer than he could remember.
* * *
Days pass on. It's time for warm summer days, sense of freedom from finished exams. Sasuke finally leaves for his home town. Feeling a bit better, he smiles, looking up at his own reflection in the glass. He remembers that statue, which he visited countless times in months before spring ends.
He reaches home, getting accustomed to this calm and slow life. Reading his favourite book on the balcony, eating tomatoes, feeling wind passing through his hair, having no care in the word. It's not going to be as carefree anymore. But it's something.
Sasuke remembers his childhood still, when he comes out, putting his weight against the railing.
He notices something in the distance, coming out for fresh air in the morning. Being only a bit curious, he comes closer. He flashes his camera a few times, noticing a gathering of artists in the distance. One of them notices Sasuke, smiling, speaking with him in a bit of a deep, soothing voice.
Sasuke gulps, not believing the resemblance.
The blonde man puts down his brush, turns away from his painting, licks his lips and comes closer. He puts his hand on the camera, making sure Sasuke puts it down before intertwining their fingers.
Naruto gets a bit lower, smiles and whispers:
— Long time no see, Sasuke~
* * *
AU facts:
* Sasuke has a sister named Izumi. She's the middle child, more independent, not a genius like her brothers, but she compensates with her passion. She's a bit spicy if you push her, but Izu is mostly gentle, like their mother. She loves Sasuke a bit more than Itachi, but they honestly prefer their little brother to each other. Sasuke only pretends to not like it.
* Naruto is an artist, who has a passion for animals and creation. His paintings are mostly about animals and nature, he spends a lot of time outside, in parks and forests. Sasuke's photos are more about the modern aspects of the world. Buildings, people, busy streets. His aesthetic is a bit unusual, but he can capture something lively in those stone jungles.
* Naruto has some recollection of his previous life, although he can't remember all of it. He remembers Sasuke, their connection, and their deaths.
* They both died a natural death, although Sasuke died a few years earlier. Naruto often visited his grave, promising that they'll meet after this life.
* Naruto is five years older than Sasuke. He's also the taller one this time. Sasuke remembers teasing him about it in their past lifes. Now, Uzumaki teases him in retaliation.

There shall be night - Part.1 Morpheus x priestess! reader
Religious themes (Ancient Greece)
The Morpheus x reader doesn’t start right away, I’m not good at making things happening quickly lmao
Also, English isn’t my first language, I apologize deeply for the possible grammar mistakes!
Enjoy ♥

There used to be a time where gods were worshipped by mortals, way more than the modern times ever could. Those times were the era of temples and devoted beings, of prophecies and offerings. Some gods took pride in having so many signs of devotions in the followers and temples dedicated to their names. Some simply never answered the prayers, remaining silent and absent to their devotees’ words. And some of them had peculiar worshippers, who would gladly serve them through their own duties. Even though ageless, the young Dream of the Endless knew that his priestesses belonged to the last kind of worshipers. Back then in Ancient Greece, even before he married Calliope, he discovered his first devotees.
The first one was already a middle-aged woman when he first met her in the Dreaming. Back then, lucid dreamers were still a relatively new phenomenon in his realm. When he saw the woman consciously wandering through his realm and interact with other dreamers, he said,
“Who are you, dreamer?”
“A simple woman” she said
“How come you interact with other’s dreams?” asked the Dream Lord, perplexed by such action.
“So they can go through their sleep as it was intended, my Lord”
Narrowing his eyes and still unsure of her intentions, he asked her “Are you here to try to change the course of those people’s dreams, woman?”
“That is not in my power, my Lord” she said humbly. “I am but making sure they carry on their sleep, for they need this place as much as the feeling of the earth beneath their feets when they have woken up.”
A long silence hung in the air. The King of the Dreaming took a long look of this woman, already a long way through her lifetime, considering the era ; her kind eyes and strands of grey hair, the shawl on her shoulders and her hands humbly tucked together before her, reminded him somehow of the Hekate. Nothing made him believe she could be lying, although he still didn’t really understand why she wanted to make sure the dreamers stayed the planned time in his realm.
“Why are you helping those dreamers, woman? Do you have any interest in doing so?”  asked Dream.
“None but helping you through your duties, Oneroi” she answered calmly with a bow of her head. “Dreaming is a powerful thing that we humans may not always understand. I merely wish to help those who seek answers for this part of their lives. For I believe this realm is no less real than the grounds we’re walking on day by day”
Dream inhaled deeply, quite impressed by the clarity of this mere mortal’s mind. For he knew every single creation of his has a purpose for dreamers, it was rare that someone else shared his opinion.
“Very well” he stated slowly “If you wish to serve the Dreaming, then you shall. Help the dreamers, in your world or mine, woman.”
“I am at your service, my Lord”, bowed the woman in response.
And thus, the first Priestess of Morpheus was created.
Tumblr media
When she was a little girl, (Y/N) had heard her grandmother's story countless times. Her grandma may have been close to a hundred years old, she would always take time for her precious granddaughter if she asked for the story one more time. They would sit together on the temple’s stairs, the old priestess and the young child, talking for hours until the sun went down.
“Grandma, what's Dreaming like?” asked (Y/N) while playing with the hem of her white robes.
“It is a place where all became possible, my child” respond the eldery woman “You can feel everything and more if you open yourself to the land of Dreams”
“Is that why you go there so often? To feel things?” frowned the child, not entirely sure of what it meant.
“No child, I already feel plenty of things in the Waking World. But the experiences in the Dreaming helps me to see things differently here, for we all have a lot to learn from our dreams”
“Even…from our nightmares?” (Y/N) asked in a small voice.
Her grandmother looked at her fondly and cradled her grandchild in her arms “Yes, even from our nightmares. That is why there is no use to deny ourselves from dreaming. Wonderful things can comes from it, however the Dream Lord has shaped it for us”
(Y/N) hummed pensively in response, like she slowly understood what her grandmother said. She knew that her grandmother was this old thanks to the Dream Lord’s doing. Her own mother once told her that some sand gave her a longer life, in reward for her duties. (Y/N) didn’t understand it yet, but it was alright: her mother and grandmother often spoke in mysterious terms to her, but she knew that it would make sense one day. All the other priestesses say so, too.
“Did you have another dream, my child?” asked her grandmother as the setting sun rained his golden light on the temple.
“Hmmm” hummed the little girl. “I dreamt that Poeinos, the fisherman’s son, would find a rabbit behind Athena’s statue near the place. Argis’ nephews were there, too.”
“And what of it?”
(Y/N) stayed silent a few seconds before answering “It happened this morning, just like in my dream”.
Sensing the uneasiness of the young girl, the old priestess ran a soothing hand in her hair.
“Does it frighten you, my child?”
The young (Y/N) shrugged a bit “I don’t know. A little, maybe”
“You are gifted with a precious skill, young one. For premonitory dreams are quite rare, even among us priestesses”
“Will I make a good priestess, grandma?” she asked, looking up at her parents.
The old woman looked at her fondly. She gazed at her granddaughter, remembering her smiles, the small frown of her eyebrows when she tried so hard to understand things, her willingness to always help those who visited the temple and seeked other priestesses’ help, and the devotion she already unconsciously helds for the Dreaming world. She was thankful and happy to have lived long enough to see her granddaughter grow, already becoming a better priestess than she ever was.
“You will be, my child. That you will be”
(Y/N) smiled brightly at the older woman, and squeezed her into a tight hug. Before them, the sun was dying on the horizon, colouring the sky with red and orange hues. High on the celestial vault, dark shades of blue were already spreading ready to envelop the Waking world into the familiar embrace cherished by the two women on the stairs.
“There shall be night” said the old priestess in a calm voice.
(Y/N) nodded, already used to the Dream Lord’s followers' usual saying.
“There shall be night” she repeated.

I don't listen to much of her songs, I do really like Venus Fly Trap by her, it was so creative and unique.
I'd like any recommendations if you got some!
I’ll go album by album & say the must listens, and the extra credit (according to my own opinion! extra credit probably means it’s either my personal fav/or not as commercially successful):
The Family Jewels (her debut):
Must listen: Are You Satisfied?, I Am Not A Robot, Mowgli’s Road (the first song I ever heard by her), Obsessions, Hollywood, Hermit the Frog, Oh No!
Extra credit: Guilty, Numb, Rootless, The Outsider, Shampain, The Family Jewels (title track that wasn’t released with the album but can be found on youtube/most streaming platforms), acoustic versions of all songs found on youtube - (Girls is my least fav personally)
Electra Heart (a concept album so there’s a TON there - I recommend first listening by watching the respective music videos for each one!! out of all the eras I feel the EH music videos are the most important visually to see for the concept of the album):
Must listen: really the whole album, but… Bubblegum Bitch, Primadonna, Homewrecker, How to Be a Heartbreaker, Teen Idle, Buy The Stars (best slow one)
Extra credit: Fear and Loathing (6 minute album version), Radioactive, Valley of the Dolls, Sex Yeah, Power & Control, The State of Dreaming, Starring Role, Lies, Lonely Hearts Club, Electra Heart (title track released toward the end of the era), all the acoustic versions from this era on youtube, Su-Barbie-A and The Archetypes (2 music videos/snippets on youtube), - (Hypocrates is my least fav on the album but still good)
Froot (full of bops):
Must listen: Froot, Happy, Blue, Solitaire, Savages, Immortal
Extra credit: the rest of the album so- I’m a Ruin, Forget, Gold, Can’t Pin Me Down (my fav), Better Than That - Weeds is my personal least favorite on the album
Love + Fear (love it but my least fav album)
Must listen: Handmade Heaven, Orange Trees, True, To Be Human, End of the Earth, Karma, Emotional Machine, No More Suckers, Soft to be Strong, Believe in Love
Extra credit: The rest of the album is so much weaker in comparison in my opinion. I still listen to the songs if I’m in the mood for it (Enjoy Your Life, Life is Strange, You, Too Afraid) but there are a couple songs I seriously dislike and always skip (Baby, Superstar - sorry to the stans of those songs, don’t hate me) also there are a ton of way better unreleased ones from this era on youtube, tbh
Ancient Dreams in a Modern Land (her most recent as of right now, and such a good one)
Must listen: Ancient Dreams in a Modern Land, Venus Fly Trap (you mentioned you know it, and this is probably my personal favorite!), Man’s World, Purge the Poison (my other fav), Highly Emotional People, New America
Extra credit (they are all just as good but these ones make me a lil sad bc they remind me of a bad time in my life ngl lol): Pandora’s Box, I love you but I love me more, Flowers, Goodbye, and then there’s the bonus tracks that were released later = Happy Loner, Pink Convertible, Free Woman
Andddd she probably has another album coming soon 💓
Let me know if any of you agree/disagree with my takes 🤭

I'm back in my Marina era gosh she's so GOOOD. The 'Electra Heart' album is still iconic - but I'm listening to her most recent album 'Ancient Dreams in a Modern Land' now and its full of bops.
Inserting a headcanon no one asked for: Rouge would totally be a Marina fan. You can't tell me Bubblegum Bitch, Primadonna, and How To Be A Heartbreaker ARENT valid theme songs for her. And honestly plenty more.
And you know what? Shadow would probably like Marina too. They have something to bond over.

Deep dives into folklore: Fae and fairies
Tumblr media
The concept of fae, or fairies, has captivated human imagination for centuries, evolving from ancient folklore to a diverse array of representations in modern literature. These mythical beings, often associated with enchantment, magic, and the supernatural, have undergone a fascinating transformation that reflects changes in human culture, beliefs, and societal values. The evolution of fae in folklore and literature can be traced through various stages, each influenced by historical, cultural, and literary factors.
The origins of fae can be found in ancient folklore from different cultures around the world. In many early societies, supernatural beings were believed to inhabit the natural world, controlling the forces of nature and acting as intermediaries between humans and the divine. These beings were often revered and appeased through rituals and offerings. In Celtic and Norse mythology, for instance, creatures like the sidhe and the elves were considered guardians of the natural world and were deeply intertwined with the land and its magic.
The medieval period saw the development of romanticized portrayals of fae. In this era, literature often idealized the supernatural and the mysterious, portraying fairies as elegant, ethereal beings with both benevolent and mischievous tendencies. These fae became associated with chivalry, courtly love, and the mysterious beauty of nature. They were depicted as enchanting figures who could offer wisdom, protection, or curses. Works like Sir Orfeo and Geoffrey Chaucer's "The Wife of Bath's Tale" highlight the romanticized aspects of fae beings, connecting them to themes of love and desire.
With the Enlightenment came a shift in how fae were portrayed. As scientific thought gained prominence, the belief in supernatural creatures waned. However, the Victorian era saw a resurgence of interest in fae, albeit with altered meanings. During this period, fae often represented hidden desires, societal norms, and moral allegories. Authors like William Shakespeare and J.M. Barrie infused their works with intricate fae characters, such as Puck in "A Midsummer Night's Dream" and Peter Pan in "Peter Pan." These characters reflected the complexities of human nature and societal constraints, functioning as both magical entities and symbols of psychological and moral dilemmas.
In contemporary literature, the evolution of fae continues, reflecting the diverse perspectives and concerns of modern society. Authors like Holly Black and Cassandra Clare have reimagined fae as complex, multi-dimensional beings who navigate issues of identity, power, and ethics. These fae inhabit intricate worlds that challenge conventional notions of good and evil, often mirroring contemporary discussions about diversity, representation, and the blurred boundaries between reality and fantasy.
The evolution of fae in folklore and literature showcases the dynamic nature of myth and storytelling. From their mystical origins in ancient folklore to their romanticized portrayals in medieval times, symbolic roles in the Enlightenment and Victorian eras, and contemporary reimaginations, fae have consistently adapted to reflect the concerns and values of their respective eras. Their enduring appeal lies in their ability to evoke wonder, explore human nature, and serve as vehicles for cultural expression. As long as human imagination continues to flourish, the evolution of fae will undoubtedly persist, shaping and reshaping these enchanting beings for generations to come.

𝗪𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗧𝗶𝗺𝗲
Tumblr media
In the heart of a secluded forest, beneath the sprawling canopy of ancient trees, a hushed sense of mystique hung in the air. Ted, an intrepid explorer and historian, was a man with an insatiable appetite for unearthing the hidden secrets of the world. He had dedicated his life to unraveling the mysteries of the past, and the prospect of discovering an ancient artifact rumored to possess the power of time travel was a dream he had never dared to imagine.
Ted had stumbled upon tantalizing hints of this enigmatic artifact in his extensive research, and it had become an obsession that consumed his every waking moment. Legends whispered of its existence, stories passed down through generations, hinting at a power beyond comprehension. With a mix of curiosity and trepidation, he embarked on a perilous journey that led him deep into the heart of this untamed forest.
The day was swathed in a tapestry of vibrant colors as the sun's rays filtered through the dense foliage above. Ted, his heart pounding with anticipation, finally discovered the mysterious relic hidden beneath layers of moss and vines. It was an ornate, intricately carved timepiece, its intricate gears and dials exuding an otherworldly aura.
As he reached out and carefully activated the device, an electric surge coursed through his body, and in the blink of an eye, the forest transformed around him. He was transported back to the 1800s, a time when the world was a vastly different place.
The air was thick with the scent of nature, the calls of exotic birds, and the distant clip-clop of horse-drawn carriages. Ted found himself amidst a landscape of rolling hills and charming cottages, far removed from the bustling modernity he was accustomed to. It was as if he had stepped into one of the history books he had always cherished.
During his time in this bygone era, Ted's explorer's spirit came alive once more. He documented the sights and sounds, immersed himself in the culture of the 1800s, and marveled at the beauty of the natural world untouched by industrialization. Yet, amidst his adventures, he couldn't ignore the profound solitude that came with being a temporal traveler, separated from his own time and his loved ones.
As Ted and Y/N embarked on their explorations of the 1800s countryside, their connection deepened with each passing day. Ted was captivated not only by Y/N's grace and intelligence but also by her unwavering kindness. She was a woman of remarkable character, possessing a gentle spirit that seemed to radiate warmth and comfort in even the most challenging of circumstances.
Their days were filled with adventure and discovery. They roamed through meadows adorned with wildflowers, hiked along rugged trails, and ventured into dense forests teeming with wildlife. Every moment was an opportunity to learn about the world and about each other. Y/N's knowledge of the natural world and the history of her time was a source of endless fascination for Ted, and he eagerly absorbed every detail she shared.
Nights by the firelight were their cherished moments of intimacy. They would sit close, their fingers intertwined, sharing stories from their respective worlds. Ted recounted tales of modern technology, distant lands, and the wonders of the future. Y/N, in turn, regaled him with stories of the 1800s, painting vivid pictures of a world marked by its simplicity, yet imbued with a sense of wonder and romance.
It was during these quiet moments that Ted and Y/N's hearts drew closer together. They found solace in each other's presence, and their conversations transcended the boundaries of time. Their love was a testament to the notion that the most profound connections could be formed under the most extraordinary circumstances.
As the days turned into weeks and the seasons changed around them, Ted and Y/N's bond grew stronger. Their love was a delicate dance of understanding and acceptance, bridging the gap between their two worlds. Ted marveled at the depth of his feelings for Y/N, realizing that he had never met someone who touched his heart in such a profound way.
Yet, amidst the love they shared, there was a looming awareness of Ted's origins in a different time. He knew he couldn't stay in the 1800s forever, and this realization weighed heavily on both their hearts. Y/N, though deeply in love, encouraged Ted to find a way back to his own time, understanding the longing he felt for the modern world and the life he had left behind.
The day came when Ted reluctantly activated the time-travel device once more, leaving behind the woman he loved in the 1800s. Back in the 21st century, he couldn't forget Y/N and the life they had shared together. He yearned to see her once more, but he couldn't find a way to return to her time.
Little did he know that the universe had a surprise in store for him, a twist of fate that would bring their love full circle and defy the constraints of time and space.
In a parallel universe of the year 2023, Y/N had become deeply engrossed in her own research, driven by the tales of a man who had inexplicably vanished into the past. Her fascination with the mysteries of time travel led her to a discovery that sent shivers down her spine - a device strikingly similar to the one that had transported Ted to the 1800s. Her heart raced with a mixture of hope and trepidation as she contemplated the possibility of reuniting with a man she had never met but felt an unexplainable connection to.
With unwavering determination burning in her heart, Y/N decided to activate the time-travel device. Her fingers trembled as she touched the intricately carved dials and gears, not knowing where or when she would end up. As the device hummed to life, a dazzling array of lights enveloped her, and she felt herself being ripped away from her familiar world.
When Y/N's eyes finally opened, she found herself standing in the midst of the same 1800s world where Ted had lived. The verdant landscape stretched out before her, bathed in the golden hues of the setting sun. Her heart pounded with anticipation as she gazed around, realizing that she had succeeded in crossing the boundaries of time and space.
As she ventured further into this bygone era, Y/N felt an inexplicable pull, a magnetic force guiding her towards the man she had come to find. It was as if fate itself was orchestrating their reunion. With each step, her determination grew stronger, and her heart raced in anticipation.
Then, in a moment that felt like destiny, their eyes locked across a meadow. Ted, the man from the 21st century who had been transported to the 1800s, and Y/N, from a parallel universe in 2023, stood before each other. It was a surreal encounter, and yet, it felt like the most natural thing in the world. Their souls recognized each other, and an overwhelming sense of déjà vu washed over them.
As they approached one another, their hearts filled with a profound sense of recognition. They shared stories of love and longing, of the worlds they had left behind, and the extraordinary circumstances that had brought them together across time and universes. Each word they exchanged only deepened their connection, reinforcing the belief that their love was a force that transcended the boundaries of time and reality.
In the embrace of the 1800s countryside, Ted and Y/N, from two different universes and times, were finally together. Their love was a testament to the resilience of the human spirit, a testament that even the constraints of time and space could not keep soulmates apart. They knew that, in each other's arms, they had found a love that defied the fabric of the universe.
Love, it seemed, could transcend not only time but also the boundaries of reality itself.
