(Love)Story Time: Part 4

Happy belated birthday to my dear Randy. I would’ve posted this on his actual birthday, but I forgot. Not only was the 26th his birthday, but it’s also the 5th anniversary of me realizing I was in love with Randall, and let me tell you. My thing for him was never planned.

I don’t know why I fell for him the way I did. Especially since I was positively MORTIFIED of him when I was little. So much so that I refused to watch Monsters Inc. for the longest time before I felt brave enough to do it. I hated him for what he was: A creepy, sadistic monster.

Then Monsters University came out when I was thirteen, and when I say that my jaw dropped when my dad and I saw how nice and friendly Randall was when he was younger, I mean that my jaw dropped till it got stuck to the sticky movie theater floor. How could such a sweet guy who only wanted to fit in with the popular fraternity become such a jerk? And knowing that his creepy squint is because he’s nearsighted and needs glasses? Even more of a shock.

It took me till I was in my first year in college, myself, to realize that I was in love with him. I was working on some pre college assessments, and one day, Randall just popped into my head and I couldn’t stop thinking about him. After browsing through Tumblr yet again and seeing posts of Randall, and how many people have analyzed his character, I realized that he didn’t just turn evil. He was broken, humiliated after what happened to him in the Scare Games. He wanted to be the best of the best because to come second to the guy who got him kicked out of the one clique he so desperately wanted to fit in with would remind him of just how much of a loser he was.

As someone who struggled to fit in with all the typical school cliques all her life, I could relate to that. Randall wasn’t any different than me, and I guess that’s how it happened. That’s how I fell hard for Randall. That, and I came to realize that he ain’t that bad a looker. Y’know, for a lizard-boy.

Happy belated birthday, my love. I miss you, and I hope that I can see your handsome face again someday.
