Thoughts on the live action one piece

Spoilers 😉

Yes, I binged all 8 episodes, and have work today and can’t see out my eyes but worth it.

I’ll try to keep it short.

Luffys character was immaculate. The way Inaki portrayed him and brought this man to life was so amazing to see. Oda really saw Luffy in him and he did not disappoint. The moves looked great, CGI was on point for a live action, and they really did break the curse.

Zoro’s character was beautiful. I love that he was more serious, and him throwing up the finger in his first scene?! I’m star struck. You can say what you want about the live action, but theres no denying this cast was perfect for these characters and the fight scenes were choreographed to the point where it looked so clean.

Nami 🥳 The emotion! The conflict! I absolutely love the way she had more action scenes and was more open with her care for the crew early on. Nami has always been my favourite character, and Emily did her justice.

I will be listening to her song on repeat.

Ussop! Ussop! Are you serious! Why do I love you in every reality! And Ussop and Kaya! The kiss! The scream I let out! I died😵‍💫 I wish he had more shooting scenes, but his true potential wasn’t seen until later in the anime so I can’t complain, cause season two Ussop is gonna pop off.

Sanji😳 First off, live action Sanji has a hold on me😮‍💨 Like what happened to the guy who couldn’t get any girls. Ngl, was keeping an eye out for the blonde at table 8, looking out for my competition👀 His kicks were so smooth and all, and I mean ALL, his fight scenes were perfect. Like how did they do this. You can see the care and effort he put into his character.

Buggy? I love our unhinged clown. His making a circus with trapped towns people. His CGI? Amazing. The little goof we were left with when they trapped his parts in the chest made me cackle!

The pacing of the show was done so well. I was worried that 8 episodes wouldn’t be enough (and I was right where’s season two I want Vivi), but the retelling was more then I hoped for. I will always love the anime more, as most of us know there’s not enough episodes in the series, but the live action did great in that respect. I did miss some of the characters they had to cut to make it flow better though. The ussop pirates live on in our hearts

Don’t get me wrong, there was some scenes I missed from the original show, like Zoro lifting Luffy’s cage, Nami burning her hands on Buggys cannon fuse, Nami stabbing Ussop. BUT, they wouldn’t have fit in this version of the show.

They did give us Zoro lifting the safe like he did Luffys cage which was cool. And Nami holding Ussops hand when Zoro was fighting, Nami showing up for the fight rather then leaving. I love her. Even though Nami didn’t get to show her care through the actions of saving Zoro or stabbing her own hand, she was still able to show those emtions through different actions. The hand holding with Ussop rather then the stabbing of her hand was so good to see. This version of Nami seemed more fragile in a way, so this suited her version well.

It was like watching One Piece for the first time all over again. I didn’t know what would happen. Getting more marines, and Garps relationship to Luffy being revealed so early in the series to cause tension within the crew *chef’s kiss* And Koby? ‘Be a good pirate.’? Like I love you? Not doing what Garp asked? Standing up for his beliefs? You are going to be a good Marine. You’ll be the greatest 💕

The relationships they explored?

First off Ussop and Kaya 😵 I love them so much. Them talking to the straw hats about their relationship was so cute, and Zoro saying it wasn’t his area of expertise 💅🏻✨ Jokes 👀

Nami being besties with Kaya😍 Her telling Kaya not to let someone tell her how to run her life, drawing connections to her own situation, telling Kaya not to be trapped. Her returning the treasure! I loved it so much. Ussop’s and Nami’s friendship has always been the one I cherished in the crew, and for Nami to support Kaya, and Ussop to see how Nami was good to his girl I feel will only strengthen their relationship.

Nami and Zoro besties? Didn’t know I could love them more.

Nami caring so much for Zoro after his fight with Mihawk showed her love for her new friends, and mirrored her care she had in the original series where she saved him from drowning at Arlong park. Even though we didn’t get the original scenes, they were supplemented with new scenes that held the same feelings.

Zosan- I mean Zoro and Sanji. The wings of the pirate king? I love their bickering in any universe it seems. The fish men fight was so good, them being unbothered with the guys trying to kill them as they fought with each other was so them. And Zoro licking his plate clean and saying Sanji’s food was okay? Not bad for a waiter huh?

And the most important pair. Captain and his first mate. I just loved how many times they reiterated that Zoro is Luffys right hand man 🥰 Luffy not stepping in the way of Zoros dream was beautiful, and his care afterwards reminded me of how he cared for Nami when she got sick in the original series. Asking Sanji to cook his favourite? So cute. He couldn’t decide if it was best for Zoro to eat or sleep or drink and him stressing for Zoro. All amazing. I’ve used amazing so many times but its just the word I need to explain it. Zoro waking up, Luffy engulfing him. I could go on and on.

Nami and Luffy? The amount of love I have for them. They were everything I wanted from them. The scene. THE scene. Beautiful.

I could go on and on about this show, but sadly I have work. Please show this version love, and don’t go into expecting the same series. It is different. It’s its own version and deserves its own category.

OLIVER AIKU — i couldn’t not include the resident fuckboy here mmmm the possibilities for him are endless and each one more delicious than the last. he might not be as insufferable as the others but he still thinks extremely highly of himself, especially when it comes to his way with the ladies. typical “oh no i don’t do relationships” kinda guy who can show you a good time for a night before dipping in the morning – and you just don’t want that. so you reject his advances, say you’re not interested and move on, but for some reason, oliver can’t. literally physically wounds his pride when he crawls back for a second chance but you don’t budge, still wary of him due to his past behavior unless he can show you otherwise. and the way he scrambles to prove himself as trustworthy to you? god tier groveling from a man YUMM

My absolute favorite DL characters in no particular order:

🌸 YUI KOMORI 🌸

Never understood the hate towards Yui. Again the anime is a promo for the game and it did not do her character justice at all. The prequel and sequels for some of the mangas did her character justice. She’s a very kind and compassionate person, she’s HUMAN and grew up in a church, she’s a soft girl who doesn’t like violence so y’all can only imagine what this girl has to go thru meeting a bunch of bloody thirsty horny vampire boys, who have severe parental issues and a bunch of other abusive behavioral problems, but she is very patient with each and every brother in all the routes and I love that about her, she’d be a really good therapist too lmao. She’s an Angel, must be protected at all times. I won’t tolerate any Yui hate on this blog.

❤️‍🔥 AYATO SAKAMAKI ❤️‍🔥

Poster boy for the entire franchise. A lot of people find him to be annoying, he is annoying and we love his Aries self for that. While Ayato is a menace to society he’s got a good side to him as well and for the most part knows right from wrong, more than some of the fandom gives him credit for. I also really like his character design, he kinda looks like a mean little bat. They give him a lot of cute and playful moments with Yui and I think that’s beautiful especially in a dark themed game series, they have serious moments but also a lot of light hearted moments and I think that’s important to lighten up the mood sometimes.

👨‍🌾 YUMA MUKAMI👨‍🌾

First off, I absolutely love his character design, the messy long hair and he’s a giant too plus they gave him realistic human hair and eyes to show that he used to be human, maybe I’m thinking too deep on it idk. I absolutely love the identity crisis he had due to his amnesia and the connection with Shu, it brought that twin flame connection back, I love those best friend tropes a lot, his voice actor also is Mako from Free! So I have no choice but to Stan Yuma. Yuma also has a lot more self awareness then the rest of his adoptive brothers and thinks ahead due to his past experiences, he knows that he’s a vampire now but still has a garden for food and has sugar cubes with him at all times, he uses his past experiences and acknowledges that it happened then moves forward he doesn’t dwell on it too much.

🔪AZUSA MUKAMI🔪

He’s a lil creepy, and socially awkward at times but he’s just so relatable sometimes. He’s very soft spoken and he a lil wild with his pain tolerance and some of the out of pocket shit that he says, but I think he’s such a sweetheart, protect him at all costs as well, even his brothers know to protect him at all costs.

🎻 SHU SAKAMAKI 🎻

Shu will forever be my favorite DL boy, he doesn’t like doing anything but can do everything and do it perfectly too. He has severe ptsd, depression, and detachment issues. No you can’t fix him even Yui realizes this and just accepts him for who he is because that’s the only way it’ll work. He’s also hilarious without even trying to be, he says some mean shit at times but it’s so unhinged like damn Shu you don’t have the energy to eat, shower, wipe your ass but you got the energy to completely disrespect all your siblings with a few words. Also his beef with Reiji is somewhat familiar grounds especially if you have a sibling that is constantly irritating your soul. I always felt like I could relate to Shu the most due to him having a hard time getting close to people after losing his best friend, he can’t just get over it either, I don’t like when people would say “oh it happened a long time ago” yes it did but everyone heals at their own pace and it’s important to acknowledge that as well.

Lucy has the day off, Tim does not and she and a toddler Ava surprise him with lunch. And she has his whole metro team dying over her cuteness

Okay a couple of things with this one. 1.) I am making a separate series on AO3 that features all my stories with Ava in them. Whether it’s a pregnancy fic or not. And it will feature their other kids! So that’s why it’s not a TS lyric title. But it is Tim McGraw so.. if you know you know. 2.) I don’t know all the metro team members names so I only included three. 3.) Ava is unhinged as usual 🤣🫶🏻🤣

“Mommy do you think daddy has stickers in his office?” Ava asks Lucy from the backseat. Lucy glances at her daughter in the rearview mirror. Her dark hair in pigtails and her blue eyes bright with excitement. She was holding her favorite toy in the world, a stuffed bear with a homemade metro shirt that Genny had made for her when she was born. It said Bradford on the back and Ava never let it out of her sight.

“I don’t know baby.” Lucy says and Ava happily kicks her feet hugging the bear to her chest.

“I bet he does. Aunt Angela says daddy is a sucker for me and he will get me anything I want.” Ava says proudly. Lucy snorts as she slows the car to a stop, if that wasn’t the truth she wasn’t sure what was. Ava is two and has Tim wrapped around her little finger. She has never seen her husband be so soft for someone (other than her). Lucy absolutely loves to watch Tim with their daughter, it’s like a little piece of himself he lost in his childhood comes out whenever he plays with her.

“Does daddy know we are coming?” Ava asks Lucy. Lucy shakes her head as she pulls into the parking garage and parks next to Tim’s truck. She had the day off today while Tim did not and since Ava wasn’t in daycare she decided to get some lunch for them and surprise Tim with it.

“No baby. He doesn’t know so it’s a secret okay?” Lucy says holding her finger up to her mouth. Ava mimics her and giggles.

“Secret.” She says through her giggles. Lucy smiles and shakes her head as she gets out of the car and opens Av: door to unbuckle her.

“Okay Aves. What are the rules when we are out?” She asks as she pulls the little girl from her seat.

“No running off.” Says Ava seriously as Lucy puts her on the ground clutching her bear to her chest. “No following Smitty around. Don’t accept anything from Smitty. Don’t beg aunt Angela for candy.”

“Good girl.” Lucy says bending down to kiss the top of her head. “Now let’s go see daddy.”

Ava skips into the station holding Lucy’s hand in one hand and her bear in the other. Lucy sees Angela and Nyla at their desks, Angela looks up and spots Ava first and she breaks out into giant smile at the sight of her goddaughter. Lucy shakes her head as Angela makes her way over to them immediately sweeping Ava into her arms making her giggle loudly.

“How is my favorite troublemaker?” Angela asks her.

Ava grins at her and then hugs her before wiggling in her arms. Angela puts her down. “We are surprising daddy with lunch!” Ava says excitedly.

Lucy smiles down at her daughter, “We are and we are going to be on our best behavior huh Aves?” Lucy says.

Ava nods. “Daddy might have stickers for me.” She says. “I’m going to be good.” Angela laughs and sweeps her up again.

“If you are good. I may have some candy in my desk just for you.” She says and she shoots Lucy a grin.

Ava claps excitedly and Angela puts her down again. Ava grabs Lucy’s hand again and they turn away to head to Tim’s office.

Lucy is not sure what Ava will do when they get to Tim’s office door. She has been known to burst into rooms without warning.

“I knock?” Ava asks Lucy looking up at her with big blue eyes so much like Tim’s. Lucy nods her head and bends down to whisper.

“Do it nice and loud baby.” She says quietly before standing up again. Ava nods and curls her hand into a fist before knocking on the door in rapid succession. Lucy sees Tim’s face through the window and he is frowning slightly but then she hears a come in. Lucy opens the door and before she can stop her Ava runs into the office.

“SURPRISE DADDY!” She yells. Tim looks up in surprise and immediately grins when he sees Ava and then Lucy. Ava is already running around and jumping on his lap.

“Hi baby.” He mutters into her hair. “What are you doing here?” Ava laughs and buries her head into his shoulder.

“Bring you lunch.” She says pointing to Lucy who is holding the bag of food. “Mommy is here too.” Tim laughs and stands up with Ava on his hip as he goes to greet Lucy.

“Hi.” He mutters giving her a soft kiss. “This is a nice surprise.” Lucy grins at him and kisses him once more.

“I thought you might need a little break today.” She says. And then they both move towards the desk. Tim goes around the desk and sits back down, with Ava on his lap. Lucy pulls out the food and sets it down in front of them.

“I hungry mommy.” Says Ava as Tim opens up her chicken nuggets. She immediately stuffs one in her mouth.

“Ava smaller bites.” Tim reminds her gently. Ava nods and chews the first one down. “Okay daddy.”

Lucy just shakes her head smiling. “Busy day today?” She asks Tim who is eating his burger now.

“Mmm. You caught me at a good time. We just got back from arresting these two—” He pauses and glances at Ava who is munching happily on her nuggets. “Anyway we may have to go out again to arrest some of their accomplices.”

Lucy hums sympathetically and reaches out to pat his hand. “Well I’m glad we get to see for at least a little bit.” She says. He smiles at her, and then at Ava.

“Daddy do you think I will ever be arrested?” She asks casually.

Lucy lets out a loud laugh. Tim stares at their daughter the same bewildered expression on his face that he always has when Ava asks out of the box questions.

“I sure hope not Ava. You don’t want to be arrested.” Tim says sternly.

Ava bites her lip and then turns to Tim again. “You said you would use handcuffs on mommy—”

Lucy lets out another laugh which turns into a cough when she sees Tim’s expression. “Ava, just don’t do anything bad and you will be fine.” He says and she nods as she adjusts herself in his lap. She takes a drink of her apple juice. “I’m a good girl today.” She tells Tim. He raises his eyebrows at her as if he has doubts about that but doesn’t say anything.

There’s another knock at the door, and Tim calls out come in. The door opens and Mad Dog steps in taking a look around the room.

“Oh sorry boss. I didn’t know you had company.” He says backing up a little. Lucy sees him eye Ava curiously.

“Is this your kid Sarge?” He asks. Tim nods as Ava tilts her head at him.

“I’m Ava Rose Bradford. What’s your name?” She asks. Mad Dog squints at her as if he’s not really sure what to do with her or say.

“I’m Mad Dog.” He finally says looking amused. Ava wiggles a little on Tim’s lap.

“Is my daddy your boss?” She asks curiously.

Mad Dog nods looking at Tim who just smiles. “He is. Is he your boss too?” He asks Ava but she shakes her head.

“No. I’m my own boss.” She says puffing out her chest proudly. “But mommy bosses daddy around.” Lucy starts laughing and Tim closes his eyes in exasperation.

Mad Dog looks at Ava. “Well that’s quite impressive.” He says and Lucy’s not sure she has ever seen the man smile so much. Ava hums softly and then takes a bite of another nugget,

“Sarge!” Another voice sounds through the hallway. And Po comes into the office and stands next to Mad Dog with his arms crossed his chest.

“What’s up?” Tim asks him. Ava looks at Po curiously but the picks up her Apple juice to take a sip.

Po doesn’t answer right away, he glances at Ava and then Lucy and a small smile appears on his lips.

“We got another lead for the other guys.” He says. “We are ready to move out when you are.” Po glances at Ava again. Tim nods his head but makes no attempt to move.

“You must be Sarge’s favorite girl.” Po says and Lucy sees Ava absolutely beaming at the man. She leans back against Tim’s chest and nods proudly.

“I am.” She says and then points at Lucy. “Mommy is too.” Lucy laughs and smiles as Ava beams at the two men in the doorway.

“Well aren’t you just the cutest thing.” Says yet another voice and Lucy laughs at Tim’s face. She knows he wanted a nice lunch with just the two of them. They both turn to see Lieutenant Pine in the doorway.

“Hi!” Ava squeals and then she slides off Tim’s lap and goes to stand in front of Mad Dog, Po and Pine. “I’m Ava Rose Bradford and I’m two years old.” All three adults look at her while Tim and Lucy watch with amusement.

Mad Dog bends down to Ava’s level and pulls something out of his pocket and presses it into her hands. “We covered your daddy in these on his first day of metro.” He glances up at Tim with a smile on his face. “I think you should cover him again.” Lucy sees a smile spread across her face as she turns to Tim with a mischievous smile. Lucy sees she’s holding a bunch of pony stickers in her small hands and then she turns back to Mad Dog.

“Don’t worry I got this!” She says reassuringly. Mad Dog winks at her and the stands back up. Lucy laughs as she looks at her husband. A smile twitching on his lips. Ava dashes to over to him and peels a sticker off and puts it on his knee.

“There. You pretty now daddy.” She says. Tim stands up and sweeps her up into his arms where she immediately peels another sticker and puts it on his shirt. Lucy laughs as she stands up and goes over taking a sticker from Ava’s hands and puts it on his chest patting it on for good measure.

Tim gives her an unimpressed look. “Really you too?” He asks her. Lucy chuckles and then takes Ava from him.

“C’mon on baby.” She says. “Daddy needs to go catch some bad guys.” Ava giggles and clutches the rest of the stickers in her hands.

Lucy gathers up their garbage and heads towards the door. Tim follows them and his team members back out the door.

“Bye Ava.” Says Po. “We will keep an eye on your daddy.” Ava nods.

“He’s tough. He’s got this.” She says. Lucy chuckles and turns to Tim.

“See you at home.” She says and gives him a quick kiss. He kisses Ava on the head and then kisses Lucy.

“I’ll see you at home.” He tells them and walks off. Ava wiggles in her arms and Lucy sets her down and she dashes after Tim before Lucy can stop her.

“Daddy!” She calls and Tim spins around on his heels as Ava crashes into his leg.

“I love you daddy.” She says in a tiny voice. Lucy stays back as she watches the two most important people in her life. Tim picks Ava up and kisses whispering something in her ear. Ava nods smiling.

Lucy walks towards them just as Ava sticks another sticker on Tim’s shirt. “Go get the bad guys daddy! You are all ready!” She squeals. And all Lucy can do is laugh.

Shredding the gnar on the pow pow: A compiled list of skiing Rosekiller headcanons

So. Um. I want you guys to know that I was out skiing all day on Friday and Saturday, and so now I’m inspired. Anyways, y’all know how much I love the idea of Skier Evan ™ and will use any chance i get to force it upon you. So i’m taking that chance right now with some Skier Rosekiller ™ headcanons 💕

- Barty would be a snowboarder, one hundred percent. You skiers out there know EXACTLY what I am talking about when I say that (for those of you who don’t know, snowboarders are just. so annoying. They clog up hills and stop and just sit down in the middle of the runs, blast out music from their speakers with no respect for other people and their ears, and are just usually rude in general) (wow that actually kind of made me sound like a Karen but i PROMISE that they are actually annoying, everyone agrees)

- But yeah Barty would snowboard, Evan would ski, and they’d be absolute menaces while doing so, because skiing always brings out the most unhinged thoughts a person has

- I just KNOW that they would touch each other wayyy too much on the way up to the top of a hill.

- Like Barty would kick his one unstrapped leg up and lay in on Evan’s lap, or manage to sit on Evan’s lap while they go up, or just hook one leg over Evan’s and put an arm around his shoulder while doing so

- And Evan would be slightly less… overt (?) and mostly just lean on Barty most of the time and put his head on Barty’s shoulder, but occasionally he’d grab Barty’s thigh and just. Drag it into his lap because he wants to hold it

- Oh also, Evan would definitely do that thing where you scoop up a bunch of snow up onto your ski before getting on the lift, and then once he’s on the lift, kick up his ski so that the snow sprays on Barty and goes down his coat.

- And Barty would shriek like a little girl whenever Evan does that

- Evan would love gap jumps and moguls (or bumps, whatever you want to call them) and double black diamonds

- Barty would prefer the rails/entire terrain park in general and going through the woods where there are explicitly signs saying not to go through the woods (which I have definitely never done in my life, nope)

- They would both unashamedly flirt with the ski lift operators, even though they are dating each other (but seriously, how are so many ski lift operators that cute? I don’t understand it)

- They would be the type of people to heckle other skiers from the lift, and cheer really loudly whenever someone landed a jump or boo if they didn’t (it might sound mean to do that but it’s actually so funny when people do that to you lol)

- Evan would constantly give Barty one of his ski poles so they could sword fight on the way down

- Make out sessions in the middle of the woods up against a tree?? I’m thinking yes

- Neither of them would wear helmets; Evan would wear beanies and Barty would wear a hoodie underneath his coat and pull the hood up

- There are. So many stickers on Barty’s snowboard

- With stickers in mind, they’d also love to leave random stickers on lifts, too (the Mona Lisa dabbing is the one sticker i’ve seen that immediately comes to mind when thinking about this, idk why)

- So. Much. Bombing. (bombing is where you just go straight down the hill and try to go as fast as humanly possible)

- I forgot to mention this above with the heckling from the ski lifts, but they would find so much joy in cupping their hands around their mouths and yelling “YARRRRDDD SAAAALLLEEEE” whenever someone did a yard sale in front of them (that’s when someone falls and everything goes flying, your skiis and poles and sometimes helmet and gloves, too. It’s super funny to see, but not very fun to do lol)

- Anyways yeah I think that’s it, I just love the idea of these two skiing together <3

This has been done a million times before and no one asked but I decided to rank the songs from Nerdy Prudes Must Die.

Let's go Nighthawks!

15. Cool As I Think I Am

I actually do love this song but when I listen to the full album, it’s one of only two songs I sometimes skip. The sound of it is very sweet, just like Pete, and it’s a great song to establish his character and his conflict in stepping outside his set social role (also props for originating the “I’m not a loser” refrain that repeats several times throughout the show to great effect). It’s just maybe not as exciting as the rest of the songs on the list.

14. Bully the Bully

Very catchy and fun, and the “cool beans” verse holds a special place in my heart (as do Grace’s little spins). Half the fun of it are the (very cute) dance moves which makes this song a little less effective when just listening to it. I love the guitar riffs and hearing all the nerds teaming up and happy for the only scene in the entire show.

13. Bury the Bully

I don’t usually prefer the shorter reprise but this song is too unhinged for me not to love it. Some highlights: Grace’s immediate acceptance of the situation and detailed knowledge in disposing of a body (and the casual “how else he gonna fit?” like she’s not suggesting something absolutely psychotic), “oh god, she’s snapping again”, Ruth coming around faster than the rest of the nerds because she’s apparently only slightly less unhinged than Grace, the discordant slamming on the piano keys after every “hack all his limbs off”.

12. Dirty Dudes Must Die

Would be much higher if only it were longer. This was the heel-face turn I was waiting for and Angela absolutely kills it, the deranged energy is off the charts. Grace singing “who will pray for you” and pointing at the audience gives me chills as does that final “run”. It feels like another story is just beginning.

11. Go Go Nighthawks!

I love all the sounds in this song - the beats that sound like lockers closing, the school band drums and trumpets, the jocks grunting and the “caw caws” from the cheerleaders. They add so much and convey such a strong sense of the setting, a must for a show that doesn’t really have any sets lmao. Also, fuck Clivesdale!

10. The Best of You

This song is just super cute and it makes me happy to listen to - Lautski own my entire heart, I can’t help it. Many have pointed out the Disney channel sound of it but it also reminds me a lot like those mid 2000s pop punk British boybands (think McFly and Busted) and I think that was deliberate with the British accent Joey and Mariah put on a couple of the lines. Anyway, I love how overwhelmingly bright and happy this song sounds, because it almost rounds back to sinister as you just know this can’t be the end of the show - we don’t get endings this happy in Hatchetfield!

9. Just For Once

This is the other song I sometimes skip but only because it’s five minutes long and such a character piece that I’m not always in the mood for it. Lauren blows me away with her ability to perform in character. That switch from Ruth’s amateur acting in the verses to the more sincere chorus is so beautiful. And that ending, oof. “I used to dance”, gets me every time.

8. Hatchet Town

I love a good mob song and this is an all time favorite for me. The Hatchetverse has been successful in establishing a multitude of interesting side characters that make the world feel lived in and that really pays off here; the song works if you don’t know most of the characters but it’s so much better if you do.

This is the first scene in the show that expands the story outside the school and the characters there, and it makes the danger feel all the more pressing, especially with how frantic and sinister it sounds. It’s also endlessly quotable; in a way, aren’t we all Dan Reynolds (with Action News, weekdays at 10 PM)?

7. Dirty Girl

Seems like I’m a much bigger fan of this song than many but I could never resist a musical theater song about sex. I love how weird and gross this song is while also containing some masterful lyrics. I love this bizarre look at sex through Grace’s warped, sheltered worldview. Most of all, I love that this is the first time we hear the line “will you pray for me” in the show and every time it appears after it’s in a wildly different context.

6. Cool As I Think I Am (Reprise)

This song makes me cry and I’m not afraid to admit it. It's the way Pete starts the song being so brave and so gentle as he convinces Steph to make an impossible choice, how they come together in the middle of it, finally completely honest with each other about their feelings, and how at the end the song slows as they’re both overwhelmed by the tragedy of the situation. “I’d have to let you go” let me go curl up and cry for a week, maybe.

5. High School Is Killing Me

A killer intro (heh). This is how you set the mood for a show! The slow start with Richie and Ruth is perfect and then the beat kicks in and I ascend to a higher level. A really strong aspect of the songs in this show are the harmonies and we get some incredible ones here - they sound so good together. This may also be the catchiest song on the soundtrack.

4. The Summoning

Oh my god this song!! First the intro with the chant, the trio’s bright voices underscored by the creepy whispers in the background, and then the descent into immediate chaos as soon as the Lords enter. I guess this is more of a “theatrical” song in that it’s not really something you listen to out of context of the musical but it works so incredibly well in context. Hearing all five of the lords together and taunting our protagonists is so insanely good. And I love how this song works musically, too, with the guitars and drums in the louder parts almost battling it out with the piano in the slower parts. Jeff Blim really popped off with this one.

3. Literal Monster

God, the foreboding atmosphere in this song is unmatched. The incredible build-up to our antagonist, managing to make a believable threat out of a cliched high school bully. Kim Whalen belting “He roars, and we cry” lives rent free in my mind. And then Will Branner shows up and lives up to every single expectation instantly.

2. Nerdy Prudes Must Die

Extremely basic opinion to think this song is great (the real unpopular take might be that it’s only number two) but what do you want me to say? That the similarities to the Halloween theme don’t make me wanna clap my hands with glee? That the music and lyrics don’t both absolutely slap? (“Will you pray for me” I will give you my entire life actually) That Jon Matteson belting “I’m not a loser” might not be the single greatest moment in the entire show? This is why they invented musical theater. I will take no further questions.

1. If I Loved You

Look I am Lautski trash, I will fully admit that, but this song is also just a bop. It’s the most fun song in the show to sing along to, by a mile. It is young, stubborn love boiled down to its most entertaining bits. It is two people almost coming together but missing each other by a hair and that hair is having too much pride to be the first to admit you’ve got a crush. This song has drama, it has fun, it has two characters vehemently denying their feelings for each other while insisting the other only deserves the best. “Don’t need a lover boy, need a lover man” marry me, Mariah Rose. How about that? Also, Joey Richter’s improvement as a singer has been severely underappreciated and this song shows his voice off perfectly.

I am ranting but that’s because I cannot coherently express how much I love this song. In a soundtrack filled with nothing but hits, this one hits me right in the heart.

The barbecue was amazing, but tiring. Lots of Julie’s friends showed up, most of them with their partners – and some seriously delicious food – and the night had been filled with more introductions than you could count. Well, that and Sy’s and Patrick’s impeccable skills when it came to grilling. Jules wouldn’t be Jules if she hadn’t immediately made a joke about how ‘your men knew how to handle their meat’. When the night finally ended, you were mostly very happy with your new dishwasher. Julie, Patrick, Dean and Sy helped you clean up most of the mess that the large group had left.

“I’m headed off,” Dean said when you offered the four of them a last drink, “I’ve got work in the morning ‘cause these dirty bastards have taken the day off.” He gave Sy and Patrick a dirty look, which was cancelled out by the wide grin on his face. Jules and Patrick declined the drink shortly after Sy had already helped himself to another beer, saying they were visiting Patrick’s parents the next day, which was a long drive they had to get up early for.

“So keep it down if you get home, Sy,” Julie said before quickly ushering Patrick towards the door. She tried to not emphasize the word ‘if’ too hard, but ultimately wasn’t very successful. You shook your head as you put the last few things away and grabbed yourself a can of soda before joining Sy, who had made himself comfortable on your new couch.

“Thanks for today,” you said as you sat down next to him, “and all the other days, too.”

“More than welcome, Sugar,” he replied with a smile. The vibe was different between you; as if all the anticipation from the past weeks came flooding back and hit you in the face. Hard. The speed at which you drank your drinks increased with every second, until your soda can and Sy’s bottle hit the coffee table at the same time. You weren’t given any time to sit up; his hand was on your wrist as soon as you let go of the can, and you were in his arms the next second.

The first kiss was all lips. Gentle and soft, but at the same time passionate and yearning. Most importantly, there was no kitchen counter in your back threatening to give you spinal cord injury. The downside was that you couldn’t really appreciate the faint taste of beer on his lips, but that was something you could look past. His hands were on your back, unmoving but present, as his strong arms pulled you into his chest. He sighed when he pulled away and pressed his forehead against yours. You lifted both your hands to his face.

“Sy? What’s on your mind?”

“You are,” he replied. Was it cheesy? Absolutely! But fuck, it was hot. You ran your hands over his hair. It was short, buzzcut short, and you chuckled. It felt funny. He raised his eyebrows at you.

“Your hair is soft,” you said with a shy giggle. He shook his head before leaning in for another kiss.

This one was different. Less gentle, but still kind. More demanding, but not in the unhinged way from a few weeks ago. That had been Dominant Man Unleashed TM; scary and unpredictable. This was controlled, stable, dependable – much like Sy himself. One of his hands reached for your thigh, pulling it over his legs so you were in his lap, straddling him. He took advantage of your startled gasp by sliding his tongue into your mouth and you responded by wrapping your arms around his neck and letting out a moan. Strong, calloused hands moved over your back, your sides, thumbs tentatively brushing past the sides of your breasts, fingertips softly grazing the flesh of your ass. They were rough hands, acting kind. As strong and inquisitive as they were, their touch was surprisingly light and nimble. Fleeting, almost. He was everywhere, invading your senses, stirring your arousal until you were a squirming mess in his arms. Sy was all man. The kind of guy who – and leave it to Julie for coming up with these ridiculous descriptions – ‘could get you pregnant just by looking at you.’ And you were his and his alone. Already. When he had barely even touched you.

“Sy, I-“ Your voice trailed off, you couldn’t bring yourself to say it.

“What, Sugar,” he murmured as he pressed his lips to your neck. Your head was spinning with all the different sensations; beard, lips, tongue, teeth – it was all there, and it was all good. So fucking good…

“I want more,” you whispered, “I want you.” Sy chuckled softly and brought his lips up to your ear.

“I’ll give you more, but I won’t give you everything,” he sighed, “not right now. Not like this.”

You looked at him, mad. Why the hell not?

"I want to make it special." He took your face in his hands and looked into your eyes.

"It'll be special because it's you, Sy." Were you actually whining? You were whining. And begging a man for sex – which he wouldn’t even agree to! None of this was good, none of it.

"That’s not good enough, Sugar." He pressed a chaste kiss on your mouth. Okay, that part was good.

"But-" Sy didn’t let you finish your sentence. Instead, he interrupted you with a growl.

"For the love of God, Sugar, would ya let me take proper care of my woman?" His woman. Feminism be damned, you liked the sound of that... Jules popped into your head with something she'd said last week: "Lara, you can be a feminist and a strong independent woman and still enjoy being spoiled by your man." You had promised her to remember that - and apparently you did...

You barely noticed that Sy lifted you off the couch and carried you to bed. It wouldn’t have been a problem for you to stay on the couch, but he had other plans – which you really didn’t mind, either. He was on top of you in no time, the weight of his body strangely comforting as he invaded your mouth with his tongue, fingers sneaking below the hem of your t-shirt, stroking your skin slowly as he kissed you. Shirts came off, and the clasp of your bra was no match for him. You ran your fingers through the coarse curls on his chest, down to the patch of hair on his stomach, then wrapped your arm around his waist, and let your fingers trail the hard muscle of his back. Sy moaned as he dipped his head below your jawline and let his lips travel down your neck, leaving a trail of kisses behind. Every spot his lips touched felt like a little bonfire on your skin. To your dismay – yes, dismay! – he lingered around your collarbone, trailing up and down your neck and shoulders while his hands hesitantly traveled your sides.

“Fuck’s sake, Sy,” you groaned – surprising yourself, honestly – as you grabbed his hand and pushed it towards your boob. You didn’t know how to describe the sound Sy made when his fingers easily squeezed the soft flesh, but it was the sound of a happy man. "Sugar, I ain't made of steel," he laughed, "it won't be long, but is it really too much to ask that I at least won't be drunk?” Sy wasn’t drunk – not really, slightly buzzed, at most, yet you couldn’t deny there was something of a point to what he said. You weren’t really hell bent on a memorable first time – you had meant it when you said it would be special because it was Sy – but you didn’t want it to be a sloppy, alcohol-induced quickie, either. That left you with one concern, though; if you weren’t going to take this all the way… Was he going to leave? Because you didn’t want that, you wanted to fall asleep wrapped in his arms, and wake up the exact same way. Your objections must have been clear on your face, because Sy put a hand on your cheek and smiled at you.

“What’s wrong, baby?”

Your voice was barely a whisper when you managed to ask your question: “Are you going home?”

“Do you want me to go?” From the way he asked, you could tell he wanted an honest answer. You only hoped that from the way you answered, he could tell that it was.

“No, I want you to stay.”

He must have believed you, because you woke up the next morning with an arm wrapped around your waist, a hand casually resting on your boob – it was a little crazy to think that all of a sudden there was such a thing as ‘casually touching your boob’ – and what your limited experience suspected was some impressive morning wood pressing against your ass.

Episode 1:

- Baby Gon Baby Gon Baby Gon (and Konta)

- okay this is in-line with the manga but still: Mito hates Ging so much that she first lied about Gon’s parents dying in a car crash, then retracted that and told Gon to his face that Ging abandoned him, then admitted at the end of the episode that she forced Ging into a custody battle which. Is objectively the strangest scenario I can imagine.

Episode 2:

- Leorio stops Gon from getting kidnapped (by someone implied to be a child tr*fficker) in episode 2 like HWAT?

- Holy shit the knife he uses during the hunter exam is the same one he took from the kidnapper wow

- Also Gon then spends the rest of the episode following him around and being a Disney Princess so like. Good for him.

- Kurapika is just hanging around most of the episode giving off Main Character Vibes and nothing else.

Episode 3:

- 1999 Kurapika design is just *chef’s kiss*

- Seeing Kurapika now as opposed to Yorknew and Dark Continent hits me like a truck

Episode 4:

- Nothing much this episode except Kurapika adopting Gon and being so passive aggressive it’s funny

- Leorio threatening to beat up/kill an old women is… off putting

- They named the eavesdropper “Matthew” and made him even more of a douche.

Episode 5:

- I’m still confused about the needle mark lol. Like how did Leorio see it under all that fur? At least this version gives him more to do during the Kiriko escapade.

- Alright the fist bump between Kurapika and Leorio is cute

Episode 6:

- Killugon height difference my beloved

- KILLUA’S TINY SHORTS

- Gon asks Killua’s name and age first, when in the manga it was vice versa

- Hisoka having a high, playful voice as opposed to his usual moan-tone is strange to say the least

- Tonpa is even uglier than usual

Episode 7:

- Not only is 1999 pushing the gay agenda it is also pushing the Leorio agenda.

- Killua brought bombs to exam because why wouldn’t he

- “Kurapika would you stop looking at me like that”

Episode 8:

- *People getting brutally slaughtered by wildlife*

- Hisoka’s first murder spree <3

Episode 9:

- One thing I do appreciate about the 1999 version is the additional focus on the side characters. Comedy like that between Hanzo and Pokkle during the Second Phase helps the world feel more alive and the characters more engaging.

- Not Killua and Hisoka making the same dish 😭 Hisoka pouting by the river also deserves a mention

Episode 10:

- Gon is so nice like wow.

- I like Menchi! High-strung cooks are pretty normal from what I understand.

Episode 11:

- Tonpa continues to be an annoying dick, though he’s more useless than anything.

- Gon and Killua bonding!

- Killua is such a cocky little shit and Gon is polite even when making trouble and I love that for them

- The girl with a grudge against the Zoldycks is just. Laughable compared to what we know about them later. She’s lucky she ran into Killua out of the bunch.

Episode 12:

- Gon is straightforward and mischievous. Killua is calculating but cocky. It’s a great dynamic that evolves with the show.

- Idk if this is controversial or not but like,, Killua’s assassin mode is cool. Despite the history that comes with it. I like slightly unhinged!Killua a bit more even if soft!Killua is most people’s favorite.

- I love Gon’s hair physics in 1999. IMO It’s too tall in 2011 (most of the time) but 1999 has a nice balance of springyness and length.

- Killua’s character art is so good. I’m in love with the soft spikiness

- Ah yes, the Hunter exam. The time where Gon’s tendency to push himself to the absolute limit in order to demonstrate his worth as a person was just rearing its head and not as utterly self-destructive as it would later become.

- Not Kurapika throwing Leorio under the bus (Menchi) 💀✋

Episode 13:

- Trick Tower my beloathed. On one hand, character interactions and cute dynamics (Kurapika pushing Leorio). On the other, Tonpa and Leorio’s challenge with the prisoners.

- The expressions when Tonpa surrenders 😭

- “Gon is a sociopath” “Hisoka is a psychopath” incorrect and tired. TONPA is fucking crazy like Jesus Christ have you heard this guy monologue?

- Everytime I watch the manacles drop from the prisoner’s hands I always wonder how they avoid their toes being smushed

Episode 14:

- The candle trick challenge always cracks me up. Kurapika and Killua supporting Gon’s decision until they hear his reasoning 💀

- The sound effects they use for character movements KILLS ME. When Majitani cracks his knuckles it’s like a pile of rocks falling down. When he flexed it’s like rubber. I hate it sm even if I love everything else.

- The Scarlet Eyes in 1999 are the shit fr

- Cuarpickt’s ethics strike back

Episode 15:

- Leorio doing cool shit 😳

- “Kurapika, I’ve dealt with the consequences of your pride.” “Leorio…” PLEASE

- Hisoka and Illumi playing cards 😈

- Another shout-out for the little character interactions in 1999, I love them sm

Episode 16:

- Leorio doing uncool shit

- I don’t wanna talk about it

- I will say I like her design a lot better than 2011

- Killua taking the serial killer’s heart here is objectively cooler

- It’s amazing how much I want to fucking kill Tonpa. Exquisite feelings of hatred.

- Gon suggesting breaking through the wall is like. Defining character moment to me.

- Kurapika’s fondness for Gon in this arc is so underrated

Episode 18, 19, & 20:

- YAS BEST FILLER ARC

- So many good character interactions. So many.

- ENGLAND IS CONFIRMED TO EXIST IN HXH?!!

- The ICONIC “what is going on in this hunter x hunter clip” response comment is from these episodes

- Illumi just indulges himself as Gittarackur huh

- The Kurta artifact :(

- LEOPIKA AGENDA IS REAL

- Gon and Killua put their beds together like a sleepover 😭

- Killua head pat Gon (also the ass smack in Heaven’s Arena… I think he’s just more physically affectionate in this version).

- Everyone working together really makes the next phase hit worse/better.

- My god even TONPA got something to do

- The music here was so good. Not that it usually isnt, but like wow

- LEOPIKA AGENDA IS STRONG WITH THIS ONE. Kurapika refuses to give the order to move despite everyone relying on him because he can’t bring himself to leave Leorio. Like holy shit the bait is real.

- POKKLE AND PONZU WERE SO GOOD 😭

- Captain Kurapika!

- Leorio and Gon take turns being unconscious and saving each other

- Not Killua lIterally SENSING Gon coming back up 😭

- Hisoka and Illumi stand around being useless for most of Phase 3.5 which is hilarious but ultimately save the day. I wonder if Illumi took his needles out as a teaser for manga readers or if he just. Couldn’t see well with them in.

Episode 21:

- Zevil Island time YIKES

- The second the announcement is made Hisoka already has murder in his eyes

- The sheer hatred between Leorio and Tonpa kills me

- Gon drew smiley faces on all of his practice dummies 😢

- He covered the hooks on the fishing rod so he wouldn’t hurt the birds 😭 I love him sm

- PLEASE HE HAS A LITTLE NIGHTLIGHT. I WANT TO ADOPT HIM SO BADLY

Episode 22:

- The only time the rubber skin sfx work for me is when Illumi is taking out his needles

- Alright I may get burned at the stake but I personally love the dub voices for everyone except Gon. Which is really sad, because if his voice sounded anything remotely similar to how it did in both 1999 and 2011 subbed (and maybe 2011 dubbed, though that’s a stretch) I would definitely watch 1999 dubbed all the way through.

- Illumi’s outfit and color scheme is kinda fire though.

Episode 23:

- Kurapika and Leorio fucking around on the forest floor

- Hisoka’s bloodlust run SENDS me

- Who else but Kurapika would negotiate with Hisoka on his own terms?

- The amazing soundtrack strikes again. I get chills when he begins to finally unsheathe his blades. Also Leorio pulling his out of his pocket like it’s gonna be a fucking knife fight lmao

- Hisoka practically creaming his pants while Gon is Right There is nothing new, but uh. This is first instance of it in the show so it deserves a mention.

- I remember the Hisoka murder run being so terrifying as a kid 😭

- God Hisoka smiling at Gon after Gon took his badge is just so… eugh.

Episode 24:

- Just an episode of Gon trying to recover after having his confidence broken. They didn’t shy away from the aftermath, which I’m grateful for. Really shows how much it damaged his pride and affected him. Gon has to think about why he came here, deal with homesickness amongst the most challenging days of his life, and somehow nurse himself back to health while barely being able to move.

- On another note: Baby Gon!

- Killua being adorable

- THE EXPRESSION ART ON HANZO LMAO

- Actually 1999 Hanzo is great I was so disappointed to see what he was in comparison in 2011

Episode 25:

- Gon’s absolute zero self-worth manifesting as a “I need to overcompensate when I’ve fucked up or else I’m worth nothing” rearing it’s head in the form of poisonous reptiles 💀

- Why tf Kurapika and Leorio always staring at each other like yeah Leopika agenda but also chill tf out

- I still wanna know how tf Gon carried three whole ass adults by himself. How does he do his strength training.

Episode 26:

- HAHA I LOVE THIS PART

- Expression art in 1999 is another level. The reactions when they think they’ve figured it out as a written exam are so fucking funny

- Kurapika’s theme is so nice. It’s kind of lonely, but also comforting.

- Kurapika and Gon’s conversation about Zevil Island is such a good moment that helps define their relationship

- Hanzo, Pokkle and Leorio “studying”

- Idiot trio asking HISOKA of all people for help

- Are you joking 😭 Not Leopika watching Killua and Gon play together my god the found family is real

Episode 27:

- Kurapika v Hisoka is great

- Horror-soka face strikes again. I know I praised the expressions but Yikes

- Leorio went from pleading with Kurapika to lose so he wouldn’t have to face Hisoka to not caring about that and just worrying endlessly the entire match. I love him

- I fuck w/ Kurapika

- Gon jumps into Leorio’s arms when Kurapika wins like holy shit that’s adorable (and then Leorio puts him on his shoulders like what a dad moment)

- Ok so interestingly, after Kurapika wins, he admits to Leorio that he should have surrendered. When Gon prepared to face Hanzo, he says, “I have to follow Kurapika’s lead and become the second to pass.” This can mean two things: one, he simply wants to pass, similarly to Kurapika. And/or it could also mean he’ll follow Kurapika’s lead by refusing to give up despite the danger, focusing on the goal of passing the exam. There are so many parallels between them GOD. At this point I just want them to call each other in the manga and just Talk (I know it won’t happen but still 😭)

Episode 28:

- At the beginning of the match, the proctors (namely Menchi) make it a point to talk about how outmatched Gon is, yet within a minute they’re all cheering for him and yelling at Hanzo for taking things too far.

- The sheer brutality of this version tops 2011 100%. I don’t think it’s controversial to say that 2011 sped through the Hunter Exam, which is unfortunate since a lot of impact was lost. This fight was hit particularly hard by that.

- The lighting, the choreography, the direction. All of it was phenomenal here.

- “If he keeps going, he’ll destroy himself,” said Cuararpickt, king of the hypocrites

- Kurapika and Leorio worrying about Gon 😭 Not to mention Killua going feral next to them

- Zevil Island really was a serious blow to his pride. Gon lets himself get beat to shit so his opponent will acknowledge him as worthy. He’s desperate to be ‘seen’. I love him sm but he’s genuinely unhinged (and it only gets worse). Fuck Ging, man.

- Kurapika says as much a second later oops

- HANZO IS ONLY 18???

- Gon is so fucking funny I love him. “Um no thank you I don’t want my legs chopped off. Can we keep brainstorming?”

- So when Hanzo asks, “Why won’t you give up?” Gon says, “I’m looking for my dad. And I feel like if I give up now, I’ll never see him again.” This isn’t ‘Ging will get so far ahead I’ll never catch up.’ This is ‘If I give up now, I’ll never be able to face myself or Ging.’ He reminds me of me when I was 12 :/

Episode 29:

- Killua’s face at Leorio and Kurapika 💀

- It’s an interesting decision for Togashi to do the rest of the battles in recap. I suppose it speeds things up.

- Gon sensed what had happened Killua right before Satotz said it, similarly to how Killua sensed Gon during the Treasure/Battleship phase. 1999 really like that kind of stuff haha

- The lighting, again, is fantastic. This time for Killua v Gittarackur (Illumi).

- The organ music is certainly… something

- Illumi’s color scheme here is better than the greens imo

- I forgot how hard Illumi projects onto/abuses Killua. Its difficult to watch.

- The animation on Killua’s face is incredible. You can see every micro expression as he tries to stand his ground :(

- Very nice visual effect here. Killua’s eyes are somewhat teal and rather dark in this version, as opposed to the bright blue of 2011. When Illumi defeats him, black bleeds onto the screen and Killua’s eyes are so dark they match Illumi.

- Hikari Ga Mienai plays when Killua kills Bodero :(

- Gon confronting Illumi is just short of cathartic.

Episode 31:

- THE LEGENDARY FALL OF 99

- The Hunter Exam after party looks kind of fun tbh

- Illumi when Hisoka catches him trying to kill Gon: ⚫️ 👄 ⚫️

- When they search the internet Togashi seems to imply that ‘cyberspace’ is coming from a human brain directly? Or is at least powered by one?

- Leorio: Gon wants his dad? We’ll find his dad *starts typing furiously*

- *Hisoka does something weird* *Illumi looks straight faced into the camera*

- LEOPIKA 1999 AGENDA IS REAL

- the final scene made me think of that radio drama where Leorio was like “yes Kurapika and I are like newlyweds and Gon is our child”. Unreasonably wholesome

Literally no one asked for this but i decided to do my ranking of NPMD songs because I’ve seen some people do it on yt. I don’t post on yt and I’m shit at video editing so here we are-

This is all my personal opinions based on how much I enjoy the songs and how often I listen to them (also partly based on the scenes, choreo, etc) so please don’t lynch me, everyone’s allowed their opinions.

This was really hard for me because I actively listen to the songs from 11 onwards and I’m likely to change my mind as I listen to the album more so take this with a grain of salt. This is probably my favourite album that Starkid’s ever done.

Do not expect any coherent comments for this ranking as I’m terrible at articulating my thoughts, but just know that all these songs are incredible and they all hold a special place in my heart.

15. Go Go Nighthawks!

I don’t dislike this song tbh just very neutral towards it. I really enjoy the “fuck you Clivesdale” portion of the song but other than that, I can’t really say I listen to it. Kim and Bryce’s splits were incredible though holy shit.

14. The Best of You

This song, like many have said, is a bit too Disney channel for me. I like the scene and Steph and Pete are a really cute couple but not really into the song.

13. Bully the Bully

I love the scene for this, Angela’s choreo is brilliant and I think it’s a cute little song. The only reason it’s this low is because I don’t really listen to it outside of watching the show.

12. Bury the Bully

OKAY THIS ONE HURTS BECAUSE IVE REALLY GROWN TO APPRECIATE THIS REPRISE AND I THINK ITS BRILLIANT, HOWEVER, similarly to bully the bully, I don’t listen to it outside of outside of the show. Unfortunately cannot rank it higher than this as I enjoy the rest of the songs more :(

11. Nerdy Prudes Must Die

I’m ashamed that this is so low just purely based on Jon’s incredible “I’m not a loser” and Will Brenner’s amazing performance, HOWEVER, I’m not as into the rest of the song so unfortunately it is ranked as it is. The scene is pure genius though holy shit. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time.

10. Cool As I Think I Am

I had a hard time deciding between 11 and 10 but cool as I think I am just took it in regards to the fact that I actually listen to this song in my own time. What can I say? I’m a sucker for Joey’s Bug type roles and solos. Goes to show how much I enjoyed the album that this song I actively enjoy is ranked so low.

9. Dirty Dudes Must Die

This was originally higher on my list but I have since grown to enjoy other songs more but make no mistake, I think this is a great ending to the show and I adore Angela’s unhinged performance as Grace. The “who will pray for you?” reprise coming from Grace of all people is *chefs kiss*.

8. If I Loved You

Mariah and Joey’s vocals willed this ranking into existence. I love a good duet between characters who are obviously attracted to each other but for some reason, are desperate to act like they aren’t. While I don’t believe this is the strongest love duet in Starkid history (that belongs to the way I do imo), I do think it’s a sweet and a catchy tune overall.

7. Cool As I Think I Am (Reprise)

I did not appreciate this song as much as i should’ve when I first watched the show, but recently I’ve been listening to it a lot more and it’s just the perfect combination of cool as I think I am and if I loved you. Absolutely devastated me upon first watch.

6. Literal Monster

Honestly, when I first watched the show, I didn’t like this song very much and was very surprised when I saw that it had one of the highest views out of the album. I’ve listened to it a lot more since then and it’s genuinely been the biggest change from my original ranking to this one now. The harmonies are incredible, Kim is as always a queen, Will Brenner’s section is so good idek what to say. But yeah, I really like this song.

5. Dirty Girl

I know this is very controversial as it is currently first place for my poll on people’s least favourite/least listened to song. Like most people, the scene makes me extremely uncomfortable BUT THE VOCALS !!!!! I genuinely love the song it’s such a banger and Angela and Will’s voices go so well together it’s actually insane. (I do still cringe every time I hear the words “dirty girl soup”).

4. High School is Killing Me

Probably the best opening Starkid has ever done. I’m a big sucker for group numbers so it has that going for it. Idk what else to say really, I just love the song.

3. Hatchet Town

I 👏 LOVE 👏 THIS 👏 SONG 👏 arguably one of the best act 2 openers, I am a sucker for group numbers as mentioned above and the tune of hatchet town is just so good. I particularly enjoy the chorus and the ending.

1. Just For Once

Probably the most controversial ranking I’ve ever done but SUE ME, I think this song is brilliant and a modern masterpiece. Someone said it gave them Falsettos vibes which absolutely contributes to why I love it so much but theres just so much else going for it. I could write a whole essay on the importance of just for once but I’ll spare you for now. All I’m going to say is that this song slaps and I will take no other answer :)

Hanabi Hyūga/Konohamaru Sarutobi

Is Boruto good? Debatable. I'm not here to argue this point. All I'll say, is their drunk scene set sail to the ship for me and many others.

Their dynamic is just one I'm a fan of. Hanabi embodies gremlin, Konohamaru embodies golden retriever. Unhinged woman x man who is desperately in love with her is my absolute favorite. They're big bro and big sis. They're of the same generation. They undoubtedly hung out at some point, or even went to school together or on missions. They both love Boruto (and we have to assume Himawari) to death, as shown by this scene. Both come from powerful, prestige clans, held on a pedestal.

I just love them together. I just know Konohamaru is down bad for her and Hanabi is doing her best to not be the gremlin she is deep down and wants to give in to being crazy in love. This is my true OTP, I'll never give up on them <3 I hope you enjoy my works for them.
