~~ Shards of Eden ~~
Tumblr media
This is my little cove, and where I post art and dump other things occasionally. Come inside, have a look~
I haven't lasted 2 weeks on any other site since the fall of g+, except maybe twitter but that also drove me nuts and I always took long hiatuses, but have been here constantly since 2018. Which...says quite a bit. I'm a doctor by profession, but here on Tumblr for fandom (pretty obviously) and art
My fandoms:
Pandora Hearts
The case study of Vanitas
Fate series (mainly Fate/Stay Night)
The House in Fata Morgana
Shadows House
Rozen Maiden
Tegami Bachi / Letter Bee
Witch Hat Atelier
xxxholic
Witch's Heart/Majo no Shinzou
07 ghost
D gray man
Some others I'm into but not that crazy about: Touhou, Madoka Magica, Princess Tutu, Tsubasa Reservoir chronicle, Totsokuni no Shoujo (and more but my head is empty). I like seinen, josei and a very specific brand of shonen: aka things enough to mess up my brain. I don't enjoy romance, sexual things(says the Fate fan..HAH. but seriously,I don't.), or mecha unfortunately
Tumblr media
I tend to draw Pandora Hearts, VnC and Fate fanart most
I collect figures,so you'll see them here, but since ,as you can see, most of my faves are a bit on the below the radar side, there hardly are any figures... you'll see custom figures here, and orginal character figures because I like those too.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I like a lot of things, but mostly whimsical, folksy aesthetics, forests and plants, and glowy flowers and things like wisp motifs (there's no limit actually). My favourite colours are,as you might have guessed, the multitude of shades of red, deep maroons and browns. I love fantasy, and folk tales and Celtic things in general have been my passion for a long, long time ,though I also love things inspired by Alice in Wonderland .
As far as music goes...I sang soprano at a choir for a larger part of my teenage, and choral music is very close to my heart. My favourite genres of music are Celtic, especially Irish traditional, new age, classical/neo classical, sea shanties, and whatever Yuki Kajiura and Mili have going on.
Now...art! When not doing fanart,I like drawing fantasy illustrations, and one day I'd like to illustrate books but that's a pipe dream. I'm self taught, and use mostly watercolour and ink. I also love sculpting. It started with trying to sculpt figures and while that's still what I do most,I sculpt other things too,and in general it has to be the favourite of my scores of hobbies . I also do bookbinding...and music box strips ...and doll customs...yeah there's no rhyme or reason to what I do and don't actually.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sometimes I post photos of plants,I like taking photos and smelling wet mud
If you want to hop into my DMs to talk about fandoms or fanart, feel free! I would be very happy! Also I really love getting tagged and asked ,but often don't get around to responding because I'm a mess of procrastination...if that happens please don't mind, I really really appreciate it and it certainly made me happy, and I'll get to it as soon as I can.
If you've made it this far, thank you. It's been quite a long post, and thank you for reading,I appreciate it. Here are my other blogs:
@sanhatis-abyss absolute reblog hell,if you're looking for something I reblogged 2 days ago my condolences, you probably won't find it unless you scroll for hours. Sometimes I shitpost there , sometimes I scream about the latest thing that consumed me, that is ,if I don't accidentally do it here. Truly,an abyss.
@amaryllis-arachne my doll blog. I realise not everyone likes dolls,or photos of disembered plastic body parts,so I don't reblog those onto the abyss blog. Sometimes I put pictures of my own dolls there, and sometimes er...yes parts.
If you want my other links, they're all in the blog description. Except my Anilist, but it's really not worth anything, since I don't review or rate or anything, just use it to keep track. I do roughly-monthly uploads on YouTube of craft tutorials and drawings, but there's not much rhyme or reason to that either... anyways, hope you have a great day,and hope you find anything you like in this mess of a red coloured pit.

and at last, the post that maybe three people maximum have been waiting for...
em's comfort retro rally videos: a masterlist!
in a much-needed return to this blog's roots, and as an antidote to all motorsport- and life-related chaos, i now present to you: the first edition of em's favorite retro rally videos!
general disclaimer/info: these videos mainly come from the group B era of the world rally championship (wrc), which generally speaking was in the '80s. i am only human, so expect a lot of bias toward my personal favorites...which will become very apparent as you read this list hehe. also i'm not even gonna pretend to be an expert on this or anything. a lot of these are literally just based on Vibes
table of contents
i. my top 5 rally coverage videos
mainly coverage for television, recorded on VHS and uploaded to YouTube by some truly incredible people
ii. honorable mentions
not rally coverage, but retro rally videos nevertheless
often documentaries, mini-doc features, interviews
for all videos, i have indicated the language (most are in english fyi); if any links fail or videos disappear, send me an ask or DM and i'll remove the culprit/find an alternative link.
and now, onward!
(TW for occasional flash photography in many of the night sequences of the videos, as well as a gif included in this post)
i. my top 5 rally coverage videos
in which my bias toward audi sport, mouton/pons, mikkola, toivonen, and vatanen are put on blast for all to see 🥴 i am not an expert in anything i am just very good at research and a whore for aud—[SNIPED]. for the sake of brevity, i narrowed my favorites down to 5. maybe another time i will share all the rest!
also, a general note about the commentary: sometimes, the commentary around michèle and fabrizia can get... weird. keep in mind, they were the most prominent female team partnership around that time, and the first to nearly clinch a wrc wdc, and to modern ears, the commentators really didn't know how to act around them. personally, it wasn't horrible for me, i just ignored the weirder bits, but i understand if others might find it off-putting. also for the sake of your sanity don't read the comments.
5. Rally of the 1000 Lakes, 1984 | finland
link: overall coverage (eng)
podium: vatanen/alén/toivonen (full final results)
comments: this was definitely a rally for most of audi sport's drivers to forget: bar stig blomqvist, who came quite close to the podium finishers with a 4:14:01 to henri toivonen's 4:12:57! both hannu mikkola and michèle mouton had to retire from the race, which may lead you to wonder: why does this rank among my favorites? well, it's always fun to watch group b rally cars sailing through the air against picturesque scenery, and this video also contains an intriguing (at least for me!) look at the scrutineering process, with drivers at their most casual.
Tumblr media
owie :( they were fine though!
4. Lombard RAC Rally, 1981 | britain
link: overall coverage (eng)
podium: mikkola/vatanen/blomqvist (full final results)
comments: hannu winning by 11 whole minutes even after rolling his car in the middle of the forest is actual legend behavior! anyway this was michèle's first wrc outing in britain, and even though she and fabrizia had to retire, they still did quite well, consistently running high in the leaderboards after the first few stages. and that's considering the fact that michèle had a bad cold for much of the rally and had to ask fabrizia to drive the car to service park for her at one point bc she was so tired. which fabrizia did... with a pencil in her mouth. lot of big names in one video—also, jean todt makes an appearance as a co-driver!
Tumblr media
shamelessly poached off of one of my text post edits
3. Marlboro Safari Rally, 1983 | kenya
link: overall coverage (eng)
podium: vatanen/mikkola/mouton (full final results)
comments: ok can i just say how stunning the video presentation is?? the opening sequence is just!!! the shots of the wildlife! the sprinting giraffes! wow! anyway the visual of drivers in deck chairs just tickles me for no reason, and michèle please tell me what you ask for at the hairdresser's and also where you got that orange blouse (this is obviously not just specific to this rally, she always eats and leaves no crumbs). this was michèle's first entry and only finish in kenya (and of course it was a podium mwah). it was also her last wrc entry in the A1 quattro, as she switched to the A2 for the rest of her program in the '83 season. also this is one of my favorite podium pictures ever.
Tumblr media
lksdjffnnkd there's almost too much to unpack... fabrizia somehow surviving in high waist jeans in a hot car... michèle's do-it-yourself shorts... this podium picture was the subject of a very frantic video chat conversation between myself and a friend at 2am a few months ago
2. Rallye de Portugal, 1982 | portugal
links: short recap (eng) | overall coverage 1, stuck in the middle of two other rallies. timestamps in descrip. (eng) | overall coverage 2, very vibey with cool music (ita... also peep walter röhrl speaking italian)
podium: mouton/eklund/wittmann (full final results)
comments: GOD I LOVE THIS ONE SO MUCH AAAA! michèle's first podium of '82 being a win? this rally being the one where there's footage of her going shopping with fabrizia afterward? (more on that later) them winning by 13 whole minutes? and that's not even considering THEE most poetic victory ceremony of all time! in fact let me talk about that bc the racing and the win aside, that's why it's so high up on my list! literally poetic cinema! it's night, they're standing on top of the car and floodlit and surrounded by cheering crowds but they may as well be the only ones there in their own little world, laughing at each other and barely even having to look to each other when they're raising their hands—like god! shut up! we get it you're besties 😭
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i_just_think_theyre_neat.png
and now... last but certainly never least...
1. Lombard RAC Rally, 1982 | britain
link: overall coverage (eng)
podium: mikkola/mouton/toivonen (full final results)
comments: firstly, if you were to ask me about my dream podium, this would be it. hands down, across all series of motorsport, my comfort podium would be hannu, michèle, and henri in any order. (there's such a cute picture of them from this rally on pinterest, standing in order on a staircase. henri is not looking at the camera because he is laughing at something michèle is saying and it's such a Vibe but i cannot find it wah). the battle for second between michèle and henri ran down to literally the last stage, and their times are separated by seconds, which is just wild to me. the context of this rally deserves another post, which i honestly don’t have the energy to make rn, but just take my word for it that it threatens to destroy me if i think about it too hard! anyway this is just such an awesome rally and i’ve watched this video so many times haha
Tumblr media
i love this rally so much that i actually had a character in a story i was writing attend the ceremony captured in this picture as a small child and made it a formative moment in her life. no, there is nothing wrong with me.
ii. honorable mentions
(is it obvious who my faves are? yikes)
'Group B - Avec Michele Mouton' (eng) - taken from a longer feature presentation about group b, a segment specifically about michèle. a friend once described its vibes as ‘a synth wave edit of an 80s anime set in a cyberpunk world about racing’
'1983 Audi Sport National Rally with Michele Mouton' (eng) - in which michèle takes journalist sue baker as a co-driver for a spin in an A1 and a rally win. fun behind-the-scenes video
'Intervista a Fabrizia Pons, la Regina delle Note' 1, 2, 3 (ita) - very thorough interview which is mostly fabrizia telling all sorts of stories, including the very entertaining story of how she found out she was going to be michèle’s co-driver. also what a badass title
'2008 Otago International Classic Rally' (eng) - THE BESTIES REUNITE THE BESTIES REUNITE!!! michèle and fabrizia reunite for a rally that fabrizia convinced michèle to join, they suffer some problems but there are plenty of wholesome bestie moments to be had
'Michele Mouton hurls Group B Audi Quattro up Goodwood hill' (eng) - i mean, self explanatory. the sound of the chirping tires? asmr could never. very short watch if you want a quick pick-me-up
'1990 Louise Aitken-Walker feature' (eng) - a video featuring a female rally driver from scotland and her point-scoring run at the rallye monte -carlo. i am convinced that louise was john finnemore’s inspiration or at least an influence for the character of linda fairbairn. no my hat is not made of tin foil what are you talking about
hannu rocketing around michigan back in 2017 (eng)
hannu flying around goodwood in 2015 (eng)
sometimes i listen to fabrizia's recent onboards (yes, she's still at it!) and this one is one of my favorites, from 2016 (ita)

(Answering publicly as an ask with permission)
For screenreaders, the text reads:
Hello! Sorry to bother you again... You've mentioned quite a lot of times that you're learning japanese and I see you're even able to read manga in the original text(kudos to you for that!) I'm an aspiring japanese learner myself-I've recently mastered all the hiragana and katakana, but I'm kind of clueless how to continue from there, since I'm studying on my own. Do you maybe have any tips on what I could tackle next? Sorry that I couldn't send this as an ask. Unfortunately tumblr isn't really cooperating with me today. Thanks a lot in advance!
This is going to be a long story, because: this is actually the third time I’ve tried learning Japanese.
The first time, my parents bought me a (I’m told very expensive) program for Christmas when I was twelve to learn Japanese at home--it came with a bunch of CDs and books and things. It was a lot like all of the materials for a foreign language course, at home.
But I was twelve and didn’t know what I was doing, and had no support or encouragement from anyone else, just a desire to learn, so it didn’t end up really working out. I remember some of the info from the books, but honestly, it just didn’t work for me. I didn’t really even know how to use any of the stuff.
In college, I made it through three semesters of Japanese. I learned a lot there, but it, again, didn’t quite work. I had my classmates and a couple friends, a teacher, but I have never been motivated by grades, and there just wasn’t much of a reason to keep on.
Anyway, years later, JR happened, and I desperately wanted to read them, but I was nowhere near close to being able to tackle that. At all. So I picked up Duolingo and found that my Japanese from college was coming back to me, and that was pretty cool, but it’s not like I was getting anywhere. JR is much too high a level for me to really take a crack at.
And then I ran out of YuuMori scans.
This was back in...November? The end of October? When only up to chapter 27 had been translated, and a new chapter was getting uploaded in English every month or two. And I was dying, because I’d been reading like a volume a night and other people were definitely going to accidentally spoil things for me and I hate spoilers.
But a couple of my friends who are fluent in Japanese were reading it that way, and after I saw a couple screenshots, I noticed that everything had furigana in it, and after some puzzling with a dictionary, I could figure out some of the speech bubbles, because I still remembered my kana from college! Cool! I asked one if they thought I could manage is, and she was encouraging, so after a week of debating, I went and bought volume seven so I could keep reading.
This has been going much better, and I’ve been learning far more Japanese than I have before.
Why this time?
I have a really good reason to keep reading (YuuMori, yay! Fan comics! Random stuff from Japanese people on twitter!) that I can actually hope to mostly manage because it’s not too high a level for me to make it through (although...the politics in YuuMori is...rough.)
I have friends who are fluent in Japanese this time (did not have that before--I could ask the Japanese TAs in college, but we weren’t friends, so it always felt awkward). I can ask them for help, they correct me when I get things wrong, and sometimes I pop into their DMs like “Hey, I keep finding this weird grammar bit that I don’t understand and isn’t in the dictionary, what does it mean?” And since I’m livetweeting, if they see I got something very off, they’ll comment and go, “Hey, actually....” or will help if I’m totally confused.
One of them is a Japanese to English translator, so she gave me the recommendation for the Japanese to English dictionary I’m using (which is super useful, omg), and a browser extension, which is also really helpful.
Plus, having multilingual friends is really nice when I’m like “Hey, this part of learning a language is like...normal, right? It’s a good sign, not a sign I’m a total disaster?” and they can reassure me because I’m anxious.
Another friend also recommended this book called All About Particles, which has been useful for that part of Japanese that I reference a lot. Another recommended I pick up Learning the Kanji but I haven’t gotten around to that just yet.
I have a couple friends who are also not quite fluent who I DM back and forth in Japanese from time to time, which helps up both practice, too. Having a reason to really use the language is incredibly necessary for me. After all, language is a communication tool, right?
There’s also this cool website I found a few weeks ago that I haven’t had a chance to use yet called https://learnnatively.com/. It ranks Japanese books and manga on their difficulty, so you can buy and try to read them (after all, that’s how little kids in Japan learn Japanese--isn’t it?).
Another thing I was doing all fall and winter, but have mostly stopped now, was taking out a notebook (my old Japanese notebook, lol), and diagramming out the sentences. Okay, sure, I could look up words in the dictionary, but I needed to figure out how they fit together. So I would write them out in order with the particles, look up the conjugations and particles on google, and then note that, and then piece together how all the words fit together.
I don’t need to do that so much anymore (although it would probably be helpful, lol). But then, I’m very gifted with grammar and always have been. A couple of my friends who are fluent have commented they’re very impressed by how fast I’ve picked up the Japanese grammar, and even my mother was like, “Yeah, you’ve always been good at that since you were little...” And discussing some linguistic things with my friend who has a Master’s in translation led to her asking me if I’d studied it because I said things that she’d heard there, which..well, no, it just made sense to me.
So. I have that going for me, too.
There’s also tons of podcasts and YouTube series and things like that designed to help learning Japanese...that’s not really how I learn, so I haven’t been using them and can’t give any recs. But they’re certainly out there!
Anyway, that’s what I’ve been doing, and it’s been going pretty well, all things considered.
I hope this helped, and if not, was at least sort of interesting to read.

okay @ the anon who asked about 10000 years ago about
The Nerd Document (tm)
tumblr is a garbage site and just ATE my fairly sizeable reply i've had waiting in the wings for a month or so
cool
this is shorter than the original version apologies lol
anyway
Tumblr media
ive actually forgotten the original context for your asking but this is the big fella itself and i've probably had some form of it since i first started playing BotW
i like a fantasy dipped in history but i also like streamlined design. it makes me a nightmare DM for myself, but it makes me appreciate Nintendo's decision to have NO entirely useless NPCs in BotW and keep especially inhabited places concise but fleshed out, as opposed to populating a fully sized city with clone zombie models you cant interact with at all [knowing look]
i believe its a given understanding that in reality while Hyrule was decimated and beyond during the Calamity and years after, it isnt actually as sparse as it looks to be, especially given the would-be functional populations for the other races'. additionally to have people do specialised work they need to be fed by OTHER people. subsistence farmers will of course have their own material culture but people with more time on their hands will use that time to do things other than survive. this also correlates to time = value because someone else has to feed the person giving their time but thats another kettle of fish for bartering with ... then there's the likelihood of demand for whatever work is offered by the non-farming person, and at what LEVEL that demand reaches. unless to a certain degree there's a lot of people who can choose to not make their own bread, there wont be bakers. generally speaking there's probably gonna be more weavers than carpenters and more carpenters than chandlers.
thats demographics baybeeeeee
so what else am i going to use my hoard of coursework adjacent knowledge for if im NOT employed in archaeology at the present other than tip it into a blender with Breath of the Wild lol7
this might sound sexy at first but
Tumblr media
like really
Tumblr media
the most
Tumblr media
if its too small to read or too maths for you to bother, tldr; those sheets there have industry listings guaranteed to exist Post-Calamity, canonical means of food production, notes on crop yields and livestock practices under ideal conditions (yarhar farm wisdom im a stealth bumpkin), the actual calculable size of Hyrule (if im not a dumbdumb its about the size of Belgium), calorific intake in grain for the average post-subsistence individual, unstated but certainly canon crops like flax, and a count i did on my mapping survey of all the animals & NPCs physically in Hyrule. Yeah. im so cool.
there's also a few sheets noting inhabited spaces pre-calamity but i may correlate that with how Age of Calamity went if its to be believed, which i believe in part at least setting-wise it IS to some degree realistic to its source, but moving on
for the most part i did it as a brain warm up and practice, but i have drawn several expanded worldbuilding pieces based on it so far, theyre just mostly not finished and/or uploaded yet lmao
the closest i have done is a 3 stage expansion map of Castle Town where i knuckled down and "surveyed" the topography of the ruins like i was doing a building platform survey in the real world using those pithy pre-Calamity cutscenes from BotW main as context .... the final like-to-like map is actually disturbingly similar to what we got in Age of Calamity but i'll need to dig it out to see for sure ... plus a couple versions where Castle Town is Bigger. I've not decided on whether to do a final version where the calculated kilometre-to-map version is taken as true or whether its as it is in a larger field yet.
and then there's the other result of the mapping survey which is where the info for colour and trees and some ruins comes from for the megamap project i've been staring down for a year now (its not abandoned life just happened) but thats a whole other kettle of fish
do you ,, do you see why i love BotWs Zelda so hard now
do you see
(╯‵□′)╯︵┻━┻
anyway
i'll stop now but basically: maths, art i havent posted, dirt nerd

Imagine being part of the Black Widow movie with a character who is Bucky’s wife in the comics. Only you and Sebastian have a crush on each other so your costars try to set you up.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Natasha, my sister. What brings you home?” Yelena only tilted her head when Nat rounded the corner with her gun raised. She frowned when she saw the blonde was only smiling at her, no gun of her own raised. And that was even more suspicious, or even scary and dangerous, than her having one pointed at her.
“We've unfi-” she started, the words having been on her mind from the very beginning and ready to be spoken after thinking about them too much. She stopped herself though, frowning deeply “Wait a second. Aren't you... going to fight back?” she put a smirk on her lips “Where's my welcome back party?”
“Oh there will be one. There will be.” the smile on Yelena's lips was even more worrying as the seconds ticked by, especially when Natasha watched her grab a chair and slowly move it to the side before taking a seat on it. And when she crossed her arms over her chest, leaning back casually, it all clicked in her mind.
Natasha's eyes widened and a breath left her lips as she muttered “Well, fuck.”
She barely had time to let it all register before she swirled around and was met with very certainly a kick in the face. It wasn't strong only because the attacker was holding back but it managed to do the job of disorienting her, making her grasp on her gun loosen up. An arm quickly appeared, ready to take it from her but she quickly grasped it, pulling back only for the attacker to swing with to knocked on her hand while an elbow met her face. Taking advantage of the hand with a gun close to her, and after just having lost hers, she took hold of the arm and twisting forced it to drop it. Both parties jumped after the fallen guns, with a roll and twist, soon on their feet to face each other and point the swapped guns at each other.
Only two seconds of silence before “S'up sis.” you said with a wide smile that made Natasha laugh and shake her head a bit.
Glancing at Yelena from the corner of her eyes to notice the blonde had taken and poped a beer open, watching the show with interest. She looked back at you, gun still pointed and smiled even more “Figures you'd be here. Since she didn't even attempt to make a move.”
“I'd rather watch the show, thank you very much.” Yelena shrugged “It's been a long time. Oh and while we're on that-” she raised a finger “Twenty bucks on Red. Sorry, Natasha.”
“Only twenty? Come on, you drink like there's no tomorrow. How is Nat gonna buy for drinks later? That won't be enough. Unless Natasha has more on her?” you complained, looking at Yelena who pouted.
“But I only have twenty with me?” she raised the money in her hand, looking a bit more though her pockets but unable to find anything else.
“Fine.” you huffed “But you two keep it down on those damn drinks. I, as the winner, won't.”
“You two are literally the worst.” Natasha tried to say a bit more seriously but she only scoffed a laugh “Already so sure you'll win this, (Y/c/n)?”
“When have I not? Wait-” your shoulders relaxed a bit “Yelena, have I ever?”
“Absolutely not. I've kept count.” the blonde shook her head “And I doubt this will be an exception.”
“Thanks for the vote of faith you guys.” Natasha muttered with a roll of her eyes.
“Hey, I'm technically your opponent right here. Don't expect my vote of faith. Especially after so long. I'm kinda looking forward to see what new tricks those Avengers taught you.” you smirked, the both of you circling around each other. All Yelena did was lean forward in her seat to watch you both.
“It's been a long while. I'm pretty sure you've got a couple new ones yourself. Speaking of which-” her smiled turned into more of a teasing one and you prepared yourself for the worst “What has the great Red Widow been up to lately? Still saving, what was it, ah Red Sparrows from their fate?”
“Hardly. The new ones seem even less willing to be saved. I'm keeping my tabs on them but, you see, the world is a big place for only a handful of heroes. Never enough of them. Even more, ones willing to use all means necessary. You know how that is. So-” you shrugged “I've expanded my horizons.”
“Ah one would wonder why that is.” her smirk only grew, especially as she shared a look with Yelena, and you cursed at both yourself for your not careful words and your sisters “I suppose, there aren't any more Winter Soldiers to save from HYDRA anymore, are there? Oh it feels just like it was yesterday. There is that one in particular-”
“Alright-” you huffed, giving her and Yelena who was trying to stifle her laugh a glare “Is that how you're planning on winning this? That's a low move, Romanoff. And you- you stop laughing. That's not fair play.”
“Oh you've hit a spot there, Natasha. I might even have to reconsider my bet.” Yelena smirked and you shot her another glare.
“I mean, I kinda remember you always fell for the ones with the blue eyes, didn't you (Y/c/n)?” she insisted of course and you hated yourself for how easily you let it affect you, not that you really had any control over it “I've got a location, in case you're still interested.”
“Oh she is. I assure you of that. I've got enough proof.” Yelena smirked, taking a sip of her beer casually.
Natasha chuckled. You glared as hard as you could at her though you knew, you could practically feel it, that the heat had started traveling up your face “I hate you both so much right now. One more word and I give up on this.”
“Then, maybe, I shouldn't mention how he's asked me several times about you ever since he found out I knew you? Oh the questions he had and the times he brought you up.” the smirk clearly didn't leave her lips and you didn't even try to keep yourself from rolling your eyes.
“I'm never telling either of you a single thing again.” you sighed.
“Wow! What a scene!” the video cuts to Scarlett who is holding the phone – his phone Sebastian notes and he hardly can keep himself from wincing, preparing himself to do that later because nothing good could come out of this. And given how the woman uploaded the video in his own account and it has been up there for a good few hours now – because, let's hide his phone away that would be great too is what she must have thought of – there is no taking it back because far too many people have seen it. Now it's his turn. And, once more, given how he's aware of how well his friends know about his crush on you, based on all the endles teasing, he is prepared for the video to be the most embarrassing one of those moments.
“Red Widow, finally in the MCU, who's excited about that? I know I am! It's going to be amazing on the big screen, especially with such a wonderful actress as (Y/n)! I can't believe how I had managed to keep it a secret for so long. I know everyone is excited, I've been getting texts and calls from friends all these days, though the one that really has been more thrilled than anyone has kept quiet about it. As some would say. What I would say is-” he smirk was full of mischief “Has kept shy about it. Because trust me, if there is one reason I'm making this video for, it's Sebastian Stan. So this goes to Marvel... and possibly (Y/n) who is not sadly away these days filming but I have no doubt will see this.”
Oh no. Oh no. Goodness, he hoped not. He didn't dare take a look at the comments but he feared, after the countless notifications, that with all the attention this was getting you'd see it one way or another.
“And since I know you follow him and will be attentively watching everything he posts, I expect comments down below or like, definitely, a dm. You two either start texting each other or else I'm gonna smack you in the head because there is only so much mutual pining I can take.” she let out a small breath before grinning even more widely.
Mutual... what? Sebastian blinked twice or three or four times. He didn't know. He'd have to watch the video again and listen to that part just to make sure it was not his own wishful thinking. And definitely ask Scarlett about it. However, he had to watch the entire thing first to see for himself just how bad it was.
“Oh and don't think you're off the hook, Sebastian. This video is also about you, if not mainly about you. I'm doing you a favor, buddy, you'll thank me for this later. After, like, you dare come out of your house when you're done dying of embarrassment.”
So, actually never, if it was all going as bad as he imagined.
“See, as I've made very obvious, he's a great fan of hers. We all are, let's not kid ourselves. However, when he doesn't let his vast admiration for that great talent and possibly small- who am I kidding, big crush on her, take his mind away he has these brilliant ideas that I can't help but agree to. And even if he might be a bit too shy to admit it out loud, I'll go ahead and say this: Hey Marvel, give Bucky Barnes his wife in the MCU...” well, maybe not as bad as he feared. The crushing part had been mentioned more than plenty of times by the rest of his friends.
“Because Sebastian would totally love to share a kiss or two with (Y/n). And we want to see the most badass couple of the Marvel comics on the big screen too.”
Well, no, it was even worse apparently.
“As would her, but that's not the point here. I've been trying to figure out a way to get two idiots together and with all this distance and work, this is the best I could think of. Well-” Scarlett shrugged and it was then he noticed the laughing behind the camera “Chris Evans' really, but if it works, hey fine by me! He said something about being subtle but I ain't got enough patience for that anymore. So, there's that. Hopefully, Marvel and Kevin will listen, even more hopefully (Y/n) you'll see this and then even more hopefully as if by a miracle I won't have to listen to you two talk about each other, non-stop, ever again!”

y’all i’m fucking dying here
on the one level, this is just. incredibly hot and sweet and oops they accidentally kink. (psst @gentledomcas if you have not seen this one yet um please do not run but do walk swiftly towards the ao3, I feel you will not regret it)
on the other level, this is the most olympic level of intricate rituals i have ever seen, holy shit
“Cool,” he says, even though ‘cool’ is the last word he would use to describe the way he feels right now. This is the least cool he thinks he’s ever felt in his life. He can’t believe he’s going to have sex with his best friend for a damn case.
But it doesn’t mean anything, right? And it certainly doesn’t make him gay. No, this is to  help out some poor gay porn stars who have landed themselves in psych wards because of some sort of bigoted spirit. Dean’s just helping them out, and if he has to get his hands dirty in a way that’s a little different than usual, well, he’s man enough to do it.
DEAN: I can’t believe I’m going to have sex with that angel, record it, and upload it to the internet.
LITERALLY ANYONE ELSE: well, you don’t have to --
DEAN: No, I’m gonna.

Hey, I posted the plagiarism thing. We think that the Revenge series might be plagiarized from a destiel fic by apokteino called With Understanding, but the challenge is, the original is deleted - apokteino removed their account last winter. If I got you the PDF do you think you could check? (I'd dm but your box is closed to people not following you, sorry. You should be able to message me?)
for sure! let me see if i have an archived copy, too, although it doesn't sound familiar
ETA: no, I don’t have a copy archived. but if someone gets me a copy to read, I can for sure check it out!

...it is so fucking weird reading fic about ‘lifestyle’ kinksters written by people completely outside of the scene, because it’s not exactly that they’re getting it wrong, I’m sure some people do in fact manage their kink relationships in such a way, but they write it like it’s standard and I’m just like... have you ever... talked to someone actually in the scene? or just read fantasies on fetlife.
like, I’m not judging, exactly - it’s like the fanon standard version of bdsm clubs, which are clearly based more on other fan representations of bdsm clubs than anything else, and have a lot of inspiration from (probably) porn and the old leather traditions, it’s certainly a subset of kink culture, it’s just. really fucking weird when people write it as the standard.
I suppose other people might find it weird when I write lifestyle kinkster fics based on the contemporary DC scene, though, so.
I am pretty excited about the fact that I’m finally seeing kinkster fics written by people who clearly do have experience in the scene, I knew they had to be somewhere.

Before You Follow: Content Warnings
WARNING THE FIRST: This blog is sometimes NSFW and occasionally contains images, videos, and writing of the pornographic variety (more specifically of the kinky variety). Blacklist the words "NSFW" and "KINK" to only see the vanilla geeky gleefulness. I also recommend blacklisting either my "i eat fic for breakfast" or "via:pinboard" tags due to the automated feed of fics I've recently bookmarked on pinboard, which include a copy of the original author's AO3 tags in the content of the text post. Please note that if you are using Tumblr's native blacklist function, you must blacklist the specific tags "nsfw for kate's bls" and "kink for kate's bls" to ensure the posts are filtered. Update, July 2019: While I do comply with Tumblr's ban on adult-only (visual) content, I do reblog and/or post explicit and/or kink-related content (particularly resources) from time-to-time. This means that this is still an ADULTS-ONLY blog! If you are under 18 (or whatever the legal age is in your country), Stop. Do not pass go. Unfollow my blog. Do not look at my archive. Do not like or reblog explicit or kinky materials I have posted or reblogged. Come back when you’re older. This is mainly an honor system kind of thing, but if I happen to discover a minor following me, I will a) ask you to unfollow immediately and b) block you if necessary. WARNING THE SECOND: Unfortunately, due to a frequent lack of spoons and an increasing reliance on phoneblogging, I no longer can commit to regularly tagging content on this blog. I still try to tag for (at the very least) NSFW and kinky content, and for common triggers such as sucidal ideation, talk about self-harm, etc., but I cannot commit to it. I sometimes manage to tag posts about politics or discourse, but not always. Please protect yourself and follow with caution.

Writing for me, DnD and Making decisions - 17/10/21
So I didn’t write anything yesterday. My reason, well, I don't need one, but really I simply had a busy day. A pretty damn good day too. Mostly filled with work but an evening of fish and chips and DnD left me in a really good mood. It was one of those moments, where everything in the world just feels right for a moment. Nothing big or spectacular happened. I was just lost in the joy of being me and my daily life. All the best days are the small things anyway.
Even if I did have time to write something yesterday I’m not sure I would’ve done it. I have made sure to remind myself that first of all, above all else, I am writing these posts and diary entries for me and so I am not going to allow myself to feel too much pressure to regularly upload these for others to see. As long as I am doing what I need to do for myself, this is secondary to that.
Anyway, before I get onto a little spiel about mental health and give some of my advice to myself I wanted to mention DnD last night. The session took the form of an escape attempt with my players stealthing around a camp to retrieve their gear and get out alive. What made this session so good? Well, my friends surprised me. None of my friends are the extroverted type, in fact I tend to attract people with as many issues as me it seems. That’s not a bad thing, but that is a story for another time I guess. Regardless, I was just impressed with how out of their shells everyone was, plotting and planning and just having a laugh. I had created an NPC to almost help guide the escape but after this character gave them a map of the place they were trying to escape she was basically sidelined as they made their own plans.
It was just fun to watch, and watch was what I did. For large portions of the session, I, as the DM, didn’t have to do a thing. I just let them get on with it and enjoyed the show. People finally started to use all their best abilities they often forget about and all in all everyone was just playing really smart. Yet, throughout the escape was tense. From close call to close call, from setback to setback and unlucky roll to unlucky roll they snuck, stabbed and literally fell their way around this camp. And as the stakes were slowly risen as the camp noticed they had escaped their cell, the session ended on a high, with the party’s gear retrieved, but a tough fight ahead for the final escape.
Anyway, today I wanted to talk about something that has happened recently that reminded me of one of the things I used to do and still can at times. At uni, our 3rd year comes with the task of an individual project, which can be on almost anything we choose within our area of study. Anyone like me will have immediately seen the problem here. With that much choice, how do you decide on a good project of suitable challenge and scope. Making decisions is hard sometimes, especially when you have anxiety or perfectionistic tendencies, and especially when the decision feels like an important one even if ultimately it may not be. It’s certainly something I have struggled with in the past and it’s something that often causes me to freeze and ultimately end up making situations far worse.
I can name multiple examples in life, from buying presents for people (and ultimately not due to fear of buying the wrong thing), from telling others about mistakes I made (and ultimately ending up with worse consequences when they finally find out when I finally have too) etc. I suppose it is an example of the fight-flight-freeze response. So often I think people forget that part of the fight or flight response, but freezing is what I used to do in many difficult situations. And this is exactly what happened to a friend of mine who even after the deadline for coming up with our project idea had still not managed to do so.
To unlearn this response is difficult but if we are kinder to ourselves over our mistakes and the things we do wrong then we will find it easier to make mistakes and so decisions in life won’t seem so catastrophic to get wrong. And besides, often there is no wrong answer and we are simply imagining hypothetical problems anyway. I encourage you to make a decision over something that has been difficult for you to decide today, no matter how small that decision is. The more decisions you make the easier it’ll get. Just trust yourself. I promise you won’t let you down.
Key ideas:
Freezing when faced with difficult decisions can be a common yet often not considered response
Often decisions and their consequences aren't as major as we feel
Sometimes we feel we need to know what we or others want in life but we can make mistakes and we can be happy with most outcomes anyway

For the writer meme: 15 & 18 please ✨
15) why did you start writing?
oooooh that’s a doozy. per my mom, I’ve been writing since at least elementary school, so it’s hard to say exactly why other than a bit of a twee “I’ve always had stories to tell” statement. I love exploring character concepts, I love creating worlds and settings and the rules that apply to them (and how those rules can be bent or broken).
I suppose for fanfic, looking at the vast majority of stuff I’ve written over the years, I like to explore the spaces between canon; what happens during the lull in the plot, in the space between side quests, in the time we don’t see on screen. I like what ifs, too, and certainly I read plenty canon divergence and fixit fics, but I really enjoy the opportunity to also work with canon; I find it a really fun exercise and a different way to stretch my creativity.
18) were there any works you read that affected you so much that it influenced your writing style? what were they?
oh gosh, that’s another doozy. I mean, I’d argue that every author one reads can and will influence one’s writing; for me, there’s plenty of books and fic where I went, “oh, I love that turn of phrase!” or “I really like how they use description to convey small bits of characterization” or “how did they make that so creepy I love it.” basically, I note, subconsciously and not, what I like, and I’ll either consciously see if I can incorporate it to evolve my style, or sometimes it sneaks in.
authors and works off the top of my head that have stood out to me and have influenced at least how I try to write:
The Firebringer Trilogy by Meredith Ann Pierce (there’s a rhythm and lyricism to her prose that I always adored, and this is probably the biggest source for why I’m generally very comfortable writing non-humanoid characters)
The Dragon Chronicles by Susan Fletcher (my first conscious memory of foraying into fantasy, with memorable heroines, none of whom fall into the “Strong Female Character” stereotype now that I think about it. absolutely responsible for my love of dragons. with the Firebringer Trilogy, the reason why so many of my lady OCs have green eyes)
Aaron’s Allston X-Wing series books (why do I love Shenanigans? this man. why do I love Shenanigans that turn around into heartbreak not long after? THIS MAN! RIP, sir, I still sob over Ton Phanan.)
Ursula Vernon (I was an avid reader of her Digger webcomic and her humor and unique worldbuilding has always stuck in my head; I loved reading the accompanying descriptions to her art when she uploaded on DA back in her freelance days, and there’s an irreverent but sincere, heartfelt quality of her characters that I just adore.)
Brandon Sanderson (HIS WORLDBUILDING. HIS MAGIC SYSTEMS. THE LOGIC, THE FORESHADOWING, THE DEFT MANAGEMENT OF A HUGE CAST, I JUST--*tugs at hair*--SIR HOW.)
Seth Dickinson (okay I still haven’t gotten around to reading his Baru Cormorant books but he did do the Book of Sorrows codex entries for Destiny: The Taken King and just *SHAKING EYE EMOJI*. also, just, anything the Bungie staff in general write about the Hive and the Darkness. it hits me real good in the eldritch-loving part of my brain, but most of the inspo from this tends to go towards my original ‘verse Mistwrought rather than my fanfic)
Yoon Ha Lee (JUST. THE DESCRIPTIONS. THE WORLDBUILDING. THE CHARACTERS. CHAPTER EIGHTEEN OF NINEFOX GAMBIT IS PERMANENTLY SEARED INTO MY BRAIN. THE PRECISION OF LANGUAGE. DID I MENTION HIS CHARACTERS. “Thank you for the light.” SIR, HOW DARE YOU. I REALLY NEED TO READ PHOENIX EXTRAVAGANT ALREADY.)
Tamsyn Muir (this woman’s ability to ping-pong memes between fucking memes and heartwrenching prose is both enraging and awe-inspiring. her ability to foreshadow is insane, like Sanderson is great at it but I would argue Muir may be better. the way she DESCRIBES things is incredible. “pole-axed” is generally how I felt after finishing Gideon the Ninth and then Harrow the Ninth and honestly that’s what I would like to leave someone feeling one day with my own words.)
there’s...definitely more but I’m already frothing at the mouth and getting dangerously unhinged so I’m gonna cut it off there. please feel free to drop into my askbox or DMs if you ever want me to scream more or in detail, i have Many Feelings about books ‘n things.

Sorry to be nosy but I just noticed your Wizards of the Coast books. Do you tend to play or DM? Do you have any favourite pre-written campaigns?
I do both! Nice one for noticing my little collection *g*
I do mostly GM tho! I am very interested in game design and I run a little activity besides my fetish blog where I upload and talk about all things related to playing and game mastering.
My opinion on pre-written campaigns is a bit ... harsh. I tend to enjoy the wide breadth of content that is out there and its certainly an amazing product for people who are starting out but it’s clearly not for me anymore and for any person that doesn’t take it’s time to read through it and put some actual work in prep into it. I’ve been in a couple of campaigns made by Paizo and my main issue is that the quality between books is strongly dependant on the author and the time the gm invests into it.
If I can recommend a series of books ... I really like the first one, Rise of the Runelords by Paizo. It’s very well written and runs you through a diverse campaign that feels more and more epic as the threats as well as the monsters grow in size!
I also enjoy Kingmaker, also by Paizo. This is a modern take on the old hex-adventures that take the whole adventure progression and put it into the hands of your players. Feels a lot more free form, gives you as the GM plenty space to put in your own stuff but you need to seriously work on the city management stuff and later on the horde stuff. Otherwise, very well written in my opinion.
Thank you for questions!

Gay As In Stupid’s second episode is out! (pun intended)
Hey y’all! It’s Isaac and Aaron and we’re back with another episode of our Fantastically gay podcast, Gay As In Stupid! This month’s episode is about gay trans experiences, where me and Isaac share some of our experiences as gay trans men, talk about the history of societal and medical prejudice, and share an interview with a spectacular trans lesbian on her point of view!
You can find us on the Itunes Podcast App/Webpage at Gay As In Stupid Podcast! You can also find our episodes uploaded to Youtube and Soundcloud! Sorry for any audio goofs this episode! Recoding in my college dorm has proven to be a thotty whom we will have to get used to working with.
Ordinarily, me and Isaac would put our main sources under Further Reading at the top, but I (Aaron) found the main sources I had to go through for this month’s topic to contain disgusting levels of transphobia that I would feel irresponsible telling our listeners to read. If you want to know what I looked through and used, however, feel free to DM me @albert-dj-cashier
Aaron’s 2018 September Recs!
What The Trans?! (podcast)
A roughly hour-per-ep podcast by Michelle and Ashleigh, two trans women living in the U.K! The hosts are witty, informative, and compelling, and they talk about topics like the current events in UK trans politics, representation in media, institutionalized prejudice, and personal experiences! Their episodes are really fun as well as interesting, and they have a great dynamic!
Big Eden
This is an absolutely Classic gay feel-good film, and one of me & my friend Lauren’s personal favorites! It centers around a gay New York artist who returns to his childhood home in Montana to care for his grandfather, and finds himself having to deal with the loose threads he left behind (and Also finds an unexpected love interest). It’s cute, romantic, super funny, and doesn’t leave you with long spans of meaninglessly meaningful shots and call it Film.
Isaac’s 2018 September Recs!
Yank! A WWII Love Story: A New Musical
Follows Stu, a young man who gets drafted into World War II where he ends up becoming a photographer for ‘Yank Magazine, a journal for and by the servicemen’.  In present day, Stu’s old journal is discovered, and his story of the war, and his romance with Mitch; a handsome Private he met during training. It’s fun, colorful and absolutely heartbreaking. The songs are memorable, and so are the characters. If you like heart-string pulling gay romances and strong lesbians, this production will make you horny!
MIKA
If you aren’t already listening to MIKA, then I don’t think you’ve been living yet. His songs are sweet and fun to dance to, and truly never get old. He’s gay and a talented singer-songwriter. The music he makes can be best described as Pop/Glam Rock (also GAY!!!) Love yourself and go give “Talk About You” and “Grace Kelly” a listen.
MARCY’S FULL AND WONDERFUL INTERVIEW UNDER THE READ MORE
Q: How do you identify? A: I am a trans woman and a lesbian.
Q: How do you feel trans straight people react to your identity? A: honestly, I’m not sure. I don’t personally know any straight trans people. I’d imagine that we have common grounds on dysphoria and trying to understand gender, but with regards to sexuality, I’m sure it’s kinda up in the air. I doubt there’d be like, hostility regarding my identity. Probably just general acceptance, maybe some minor prodding.
Side note: not to generalize, but from what I understand, straight trans women tend to have different experiences with self-discovery than bi or lesbian trans women. The former tend to figure things out earlier, are sometimes seen as more traditionally feminine, etc. Some of this is from rather TERFy science, though, so take it with a grain of salt.
Q: How do you feel your identity is perceived in the LGBT Community? A: from an intracommunity standpoint, I think that trans WLW in general are steadily becoming more accepted as we speak up about or lives and experiences. Many cis WLW, whether actively or passively, exhibit an alarming amount of transphobic beliefs, but I like to think they’re in the minority.
Q: How do you present your gender and what do it mean to you? A: I’m butch, so my experience with womanhood and femininity is… interesting, to say the least. I certainly don’t take a traditional approach to femininity, and I find that very empowering, especially as a trans woman. I don’t wanna force myself into a role that I’m not comfortable filling, just to appeal to what society expects of me. I wear suits and vests and I keep my hair short and I’ve honestly never even touched makeup, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Q: What role do you feel like the intersection of your gender and your sexualilty play in your life? A: my gender and my sexuality are both very important to me, the intersection thereof even moreso. Understanding that intersection has helped me piece together a lot of the questions I had growing up. To put it simply, figuring out that I’m not just trans, but also a lesbian, has helped me figure out like, the past eight-to-ten years’ worth of failed romantic endeavors. The way I experience relationships, the way I interact with people, the way I love are all impacted by both my gender and my sexuality; neither’s importance can be understated.
Q: Do you feel like your gender presentation makes people more prone to invalidate your identity? A: pardon my language but, of fucking course. Like, cis people and transphobes alike will find any reason they can to invalidate a trans person. But the second they find a trans woman who’s a lesbian, who isn’t presenting like a perfectly feminine stereotype, all bets are off my dude. Until I have like, B-cup tits and a soft face, I’m essentially a straight guy in most people’s faces. Which, eh, who cares at this point? Straight people have never understood butch womanhood. I don’t expect them to recognize a trans butch when they see one.
Q: Do you feel like your identity as a gay trans person makes it harder for you to receive proper medical care (hormones, sexual health, etc)? A: quite honestly, I don’t know yet. I’m still pre-HRT; I have yet to jump through the hoops and red tape necessary to get hormones and whatnot. I imagine it’ll be tough, though.
Q: How has your coming out process been different than if you were just trans or gay? A: the biggest difference, for me at least, is that it’s been a multi-step process. For a while I thought I was a bi cis man, then pansexual and agender, then a bi trans woman, and it wasn’t until ~June 2017 that I figured out I was a trans lesbian. Coming out to friends has always been easy; they pick up on new identities and pronouns fairly easy. Honestly, I don’t think my parents quite understand what being trans is right now, but we’re working on it.
Q: Have you ever found yourself feeling guilty over your attraction to women because of your gender identity? A: honestly? At least once a week, I have that dysphoric voice in my head telling me I’m just some creepy straight guy preying on lesbians. I know it isn’t true, it’s just self-doubt and internalized transphobia and TERF rhetoric echoing, but it’s hard to not think that, frankly. Especially when it’s repeated so often.
Q: Do you feel like your voice is heard/your identity is seen between media and the community? A: in media? Outside of a few niche places (and surprisingly, IDW’s Transformers comics), trans lesbians are largely pretty nonexistent. Of course, in the actual community we’re much more populous, but frankly we’re a little bit insular as we tend to mostly befriend and date one another. All in all, don’t think we’re entirely invisible, but I do think we could do with some more fictional representation, and to get more involved with the larger LGBT community.
Q: Is there anything else about your experience as a gay trans person you would like to add? A: admittedly, it hasn’t been until recently that I’ve felt truly comfortable around cis lesbians. Most of my relationships in the past few years have been with other trans girls. There’s a variety of reasons for this, and every woman’s experiences are her own, but for a long time I was afraid that cis lesbians just wouldn’t recognize me as a woman. Q: Would you like your instagram/tumblr to be linked in the episode description? A: sure! I’m @opossumghoul on tumblr and @opossumbutch on other social media

K-Pop and Minimalism Don’t Mix...Or Do They?
Tumblr media
Writer: Libby Mokrosova
A month into tossing out what seemed to be a small village worth of junk, sorting out the useful from the useless became second nature. “Does this bring me joy?” echoed throughout my head not only during times of sorting through piles at home, but also while I perused through the shelves of stores, scrolled through a sea of apps on my phone, and even while I picked out a book to read. When it comes to getting rid of items, I really don’t have much of a problem, and I completely agree with the KonMari method of reflecting back on whether or not an item or thing is not only useful in your life but also serves the role of making you happy. However, I won’t sit here and lie - I’m not actually a minimalist. I agree with most of the ideologies and use them as needed, but I just like “stuff” too much. On the other hand, I know a handful of people who proudly proclaim themselves as minimalists and actively live that lifestyle - some are also K-Pop fans.
Seeing these minimalists partake in the K-Pop fan community got me thinking, “there’s no way you could actually be a K-Pop fan and minimalist at the same time, it just doesn’t work that way.” And here’s why I used to think that:
For starters, the K-Pop industry is almost as extra and over-the-top as it gets. The fashion is expensive and flashy, the marketing hones in on merchandise, the fan community values collectibles, etc. To me, K-Pop was just one enormous heap of “buy this product because your favorite group/ idol is on it”. So how could fans that own so many seemingly useless limited versions of albums, posters, and even makeup possibly call themselves minimalists? None of it really added up in my head….and then I actually took the time to think it through a bit more.
Minimalism isn’t only about the number of physical possessions one has. A big part of minimalism is the act of cutting out the “bad” to make more room in your life for the “good”. That type of decluttering could even be used for the thoughts in our heads. Making it a habit to filter the amount of time we think about a certain thing or person that doesn’t make us happy is a form of minimalism. In a way, the K-pop fans that allocate some previously used up space in their rooms in favor of K-pop related merchandise that makes them truly happy can most certainly be minimalists. If showing support for their idols means purchasing every version of a certain item, then so be it. Of course, once that item no longer brings them as much joy, or possibly none at all, it can be sold to another person who would like it more. After all, one man’s trash is another man’s treasure.
How we use technology as K-Pop fans can also be a part of a minimalist lifestyle. One fan might find that they spend way too much time on Twitter reading K-Pop news, talking to other fans, being an admin of a fan group, or even partaking in fan wars. Another might be distracting themselves too frequently from their 9-5 job by checking Instagram constantly for their bias’ new upload (personally guilty). Cutting those out is a form of minimalism too. Don’t even get me started on our tech-based musical libraries (spoiler alert: I haven’t cleaned out my collection since 2011). Deleting the GB’s worth of songs and albums that we no longer listen to or like anymore, and just sticking to a few of our favorites can save so much space and scrolling/searching time. Leaving our K-Pop listening to Spotify, MelOn, or other cloud-based platforms can really aid a minimalist lifestyle.
As a little extra something to chew on, music can be minimalist too. Bare-bone songs, such as acapella tracks, songs that have a heavy focus on the voice with only a few accompanying instruments or beats, and instrumentals that lack layering and special effects can be classified as minimalist. K-Pop, although mostly heavily produced and layered, has a history of providing fans with stripped-down versions of songs that fit into the molds of those mentioned prior.
Being a minimalist doesn’t mean you only own the literal bare necessities; it can simply mean that everything you do and own serves a meaningful purpose in your life and isn’t collecting dust or taking up space and time that could be allotted to better, more fulfilling things - like K-Pop, for instance. Minimalism isn’t about perfection - it’s about the personal journey to finding more space, time, and joy in your life.
Do you practice minimalism? Has it carried over into your passion for K-Pop? Speak yourself in the comments section or drop us a DM to let us know how you feel about the topic ♡

The first time Lucy Kyselica’s face was stolen, it turned up in the window of a beauty salon in small-town America. Kyselica is a Dutch beauty YouTuber who mostly makes videos about historical hairdos, but she had also made a video showing her subscribers how to thread their own eyebrows. The salon took a screengrab from that video, enlarged it to poster size, and used it to advertise their eyebrow threading services. Across the ocean in the Netherlands, Kyselica only found out because some fans recognized her, and asked her if she was working with the salon or if she even knew her image was in its window. She wasn’t; she didn’t. She sent an email, and never heard back. “It may still be there,” she says.
In the six years since, Kyselica has seen her image used to sell other people’s products over and over. She’s been the face of hairstyling tools, hair thickening products, and beauty pills. “The products are always kind of dodgy,” she says. Most recently, it was clip-in bangs sold by a Chinese merchant on Amazon. Kyselica decided to publicize her problem, and made a video about it: “I Ordered My Own Bangs Off Amazon 🤔 🙅‍♀”. You see, Kyselica’s bangs, which are her signature look, aren’t actually clip-ins. They grow from her scalp.
Image theft isn’t unique to Kyselica, or even social media influencers. If you’ve ever seen (or bought) a designer handbag or a pair of sunglasses that “fell off a truck,” you’ve seen a version of this before. The internet has made selling knockoffs a breeze, especially because vendors can just use a picture of the genuine article on the listing and the customer won’t know the difference until the inevitably plasticy and awful fake shows up on their doorstep.
As influencer marketing has grown in popularity, using images from their accounts has became the logical next step. Instagrammers often complain about Chinese fast fashion companies copying their looks and using their photos (often with their faces cropped out) to sell cheap knockoffs. Beauty YouTubers constantly encounter ads featuring their own eyes, nails, or whole faces, as well as inboxes and DMs full of fans telling them about such ads. In an economy based on audience trust, the products can be a real blow to their businesses. More often than not, they have no idea what to do next.
While it certainly isn’t good, a brand making a low-rent dupe of your outfit and selling it with a photo of your headless body can be a sick sort of best case scenario. For one, you’ve got that plausible deniability: If I really endorsed this (crappy) product, why would they crop out my face? Plus, for some, the scandal of it all can actually be a benefit.
That’s what happened to YouTuber Bernadette Banner, who makes historical sewing videos. One morning around 6 am, she found her DM inboxes—Facebook, Instagram, Etsy—stuffed with messages from fans. They were all telling her that a fast fashion company was advertising one of her dresses—a 15th century gown she had copied from a painting and hand-sewn over the course of over 250 hours—with her (headless) image for $40.98, which is not even half of her materials cost. “I had just woken up. I was incoherent. I never got to the point of rage,” Banner says. “I thought, ‘What would happen if I bought it? That would make really good video content.’ Without getting out of bed, I ordered the dress.” The resulting video, which she calls “an educated roast,” went viral. It got 3.5 million views, doubled Banner’s subscribe count, and made her five figures in revenue.
Banner’s business is based on showcasing her expertise: She didn’t design that dress, and she doesn’t sell it anywhere, so the knockoff didn’t really cost her anything in lost business. It’s the same for many beauty influencers. They derive their income from images of their faces, hair, and nails, so they stand to lose a lot more when those images are stolen. Even celebrity YouTubers have been affected. Nail artist Simply Nailogical, who has 7.5 million subscribers, has experienced so much image theft that she watermarks every image and video she uploads—and people still swipe them for advertisements. Makeup guru Tati Westbrook, who has over 9.5 million subscribers, has made a video detailing every time her image and voice have been used to promote products she doesn’t endorse.
People are almost always dismayed when this happens. “It's just kind of creepy to see my face in something I’m not associated with in any way,” Kyselica says. “It hurts my business. Also, on a personal level, the trust of my followers means a lot to me. I feel iffy about having my face used when the products are made in a way that is likely not ethically produced, like in a sweatshop in China.” The ethics concern comes up a lot: Banner is publicly critical of fast fashion companies in general, so to have her dress copied by one was extra frustrating. “There is probably somebody working basically as a slave to make this dress,” Banner says. “I got uncomfortable buying it, but I’d like to think that I’m keeping hundreds or thousands of other people from buying it, too.”
Among YouTubers and other influencers, there’s a sense that nothing can be done, of screaming into the void. There is frequently a language barrier between the influencer and the seller; the companies rarely (if ever) respond to their emails, and the images often pop up online again as advertisements for different companies entirely within a few days or even hours. (Typically the brands all share a parent company.) “It’s always disheartening to find out that it’s happened again,” Kyselica says, especially because, in its own way, it’s a symptom of her success. “It’s our job to produce nice images of ourselves and make them findable on Google,” she says. “When you Google images of girls, it's not surprising that we come up.” Put another way, SEO is now an occupational hazard.
However, if the products are being advertised on US-based platforms like Instagram or Amazon, recourse is possible, though somewhat complex. Using someone’s image for your commercial gain without their consent is illegal. “The platforms are supportive, but need to be communicated to in their format. If someone is sending an email that says ‘I want my image off here,’ it's not sufficient,” says Fred Dimyan, CEO of Potoo, a company that handles this issue for hundreds of major brands. “You have to note the specific infringement. Is it a trademark, or is it a registered trademark? That’s the level of granularity.” People without lawyers or platform experts on hand will find that difficult, but it’s not impossible. For now, platforms are not proactively dealing with image theft on behalf of influencers. It’s up to the individual to report it. But fortunately for them, they have legions of fans watching feeds on their behalf, and can publicize the misuse of their images when it happens. Sometimes it even helps. After talking with me, Dimyan agreed to help Kyselica approach Amazon about the advertisement for those clip-in bangs. Her images have been removed—for now.

A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words
I consumed half a jar of nutella while writing this rip
This fic uses two prompts (thanks!); social media from @thinkoutsidethelovesquare is the main focus, while @queermiraculous‘ prompt discovery rounds it all off ~
The formatting should be pretty clear? but bold represents a screen name. I’ve also used some emojis because it’s social media and I dig that, so hopefully that shows up?
This fic is shameless tbh and so is my self-promotion (head to ao3)
A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words- a Chlonette fic (1347 words)
Alya had been pestering Marinette to get on Instagram for months now, and Marinette's will had finally caved. She didn't know how long she would maintain the account, but it certainly didn't hurt to try it out.
Picking a username was the difficult part. After much thought, she settled on marinettemakes, because if there was anything she wanted to do with this account, it would be to share her designs (besides, alliteration was always cute). For her username, she chose a photo of herself that her parents had taken on her last birthday; warm light, her face tilted up towards the camera, a smile stretched across her face. For her first post, she couldn't decide, so she started by seeing which of her classmates had accounts of their own.
Alya's was full of shots of her friends and some of her work or her food, captioned with class conspiracies - and her feed bore remarkable similarities to Nino's, which raised interesting questions about their alleged non-relationship. More interesting yet was their choice to use their akumatised names, ladywifi and bubbler, for their accounts. Juleka's profile didn't have a single selfie, instead turning her camera towards the world around her, but Rose's made up for this with lots of candids of her friend among the dogs she had met in the parks of Paris. Ivan ran an edgy, monochrome account, from which pictures of his girlfriend radiated. Kim's was upbeat, chronicling his morning runs and deadlift records, and the great stacks of foods he shared with his friends. It seemed Alix was trying to outdo him in showing off, because she showed similar images in between those of her freestyling in skate parks. Max had an account only to like the posts of his friends. Adrien's Instagram seemed to be run by his management; behind the scenes of his latest shoot, grateful shout-outs and promotions for the brands that hired him. He had by far the greatest follower count for the class.
It was really interesting to see the images her classmates curated for themselves, but Nathaniel's was closest to what she thought she envisioned for herself. Seeing his profile full of his doodles, comic scraps, and completed pieces reassured her that it wasn't unusual to have an account dedicated to your work. So, tentatively, she posted a photo of a circle skirt she had made, accessorised with a pair of cute socks and thick-soled shoes.
She was surprised how quickly the feedback came in:
ladywifi: gurl!! this is so awesome!
roselavillove: ❤❤
lechampionkim: nice legs :-) and a nice skirt too lmao
And a new follow request! chloebourgeois had requested to follow her, which wasn't surprising - though Chloé hated her and was not interested in anything other than herself, she could hardly afford to let someone slip under her radar of data and derision. Marinette shrugged, and accepted the request, following her classmate in return and absently looking through the pictures Chloé had decided to post.
chloebourgeois uploaded mostly selfies; neck a beautiful arch, lips a slight pout to emphasise their shape, make up always perfect. Her trademark look was that frosted lip with long eyelashes and a small flick of eyeliner, but this profile showed her versatility, and had gained her a lot of followers as a fledgling beauty guru. In awe, Marinette scrolled down. Chloé with dark red lips. Chloé with a bronzed contour. Chloé in nude. (The words were unfortunate. This set up a new image that had to be rapidly discarded for her own safety.)
She had just uploaded a new photo: Chloé on the balcony of her father's hotel in the early bloom of the sunset, face in blissful profile, golden light kissing her golden skin and hair, hands skimming her collarbones to display their beautiful shape.
marinettemakes: Wow!
And in the same moment, chloebourgeois left a comment on her photo: wow 👌
Chloé did not like many people's pictures, let alone leave comments on them. This was something Alya picked up on after she had left comments (flattering ones!) on three different pictures in a row: "Is there something going on between you and Chloé that you didn't tell me about? I thought you hated each other."
"I'm pretty sure we still do," Marinette mused, and meant it.
"Hmm."
Yet, this apparent thaw in their relationship was from both ends. Marinette had liked selfies of Chloé tossing her ponytail over her shoulder (marinettemakes: Your hair is so pretty!), nursing a cup of coffee with slightly bleary eyes (marinettemakes: You woke up like this? Amazing x), showing off a cute Ladybug hoodie she had bought (marinettemakes: Almost as cute as the real thing :) ) and painting on a shimmery smoky eye (marinettemakes: How do you do this? This is stunning!)... and pretty much everything else she had ever posted.
"I'm just being nice, Alya. Chloé's a narcissist. I don't know, I guess we might get along better if I compliment her loads, and it's way easier complimenting her from far away rather than to her face. I get intimidated and chicken out."
"Why? Because she's hot and you can't keep your cool?"
Alya said it like a joke, but Marinette replied to it like a reality, "N-no! I mean, like, she's obviously hot, aesthetically-pleasing, whatever, but that isn't important. It's not that."
"Hmm."
"Besides!" she floundered, "If she's being nice to me, it's because she's figured out she can get something out of me."
Comments on marinettemakes left by chloebourgeois: 'above average xx' (a cosy knitted jumper), 'my favourite babe! <3' (a tea dress inspired by Chat Noir), three fire emojis in a row (a dress that came out shorter than intended, drawing the eye down to her thighs), a cheeky 'girls in suits? UGH' (a suit jacket that Alya had convinced her friend to wear with a nude illusion beneath), 'pretty, but what does it look like on the designer?' (a sketch of a summery dress with ruffles and layers of volume).
Alya had stubbornly called this flirting ('She's gay, boo.' 'No way. She's obsessed with Adrien.' 'Fine! She's bi, boo.'), but Marinette did not feel like Chloé had changed her attitude outside of leaving flirty comments on her pictures - and Alya did that too, so it didn't mean anything. Indeed, all it had culminated in was a DM saying 'hey so daddy's got a charity gala and I've run out of things to wear, so I want you to design me something. gold would be nice', and a picture of Chloé on the arm of a famous human rights lawyer, dressed in lamé and looking like a Grecian goddess, with tendrils of beautiful curling hair escaping the coil atop her head to caress her cheeks (marinettemakes: Beyond gorgeous!). She had not even given a credit to the designer, and the designer did not feel it her place to say.
This was Marinette's explanation. However, the comments on Marinette's few selfies (pretty!, hooot x, ur like an angel) said something else entirely.
And, well, a picture is worth a thousand words.
ladywifi posted a new picture: a selfie with Nino, hand making a peace sign. 'school dance babes!' reads the caption, 'and there certainly were some babes tonight'
marinettemakes posted a new picture: a group photo of her four friends, arms draped over each other's shoulders. It's a lovely candid shot, Adrien laughing at something Nino says to him, Marinette's attention directed somewhere beyond the shot (you can almost see it on her face: holy...). 'Had a really great night!' she says, and means it.
chloebourgeois posted a new picture: a selfie taken from slightly above to give the best vantage of her cleavage in the revealing evening gown, and the dark plum lips (a new colour for her). At this angle, you can see the fingertips of the hand around her waist, and the slight blurring of her lipstick. 'you should've see me on the dancefloor 😉'
And, if you know where to look, you can. In the background of ladywifi's latest picture, somewhere in the dark of the dancefloor, you might discover Marinette Dupain-Cheng kissing Chloé Bourgeois, who she has been staring hungrily at since she first walked in the door - and plum is exactly what will quench her appetite.
Not in the photo, however, is the moment they pull away and say exactly what's on their mind: "Wow..."

The Ledger: Ethereum Price Flattens, Banks Trade Bitcoin, Crypto Scams
New Post has been published on https://cryptnus.com/2018/09/the-ledger-ethereum-price-flattens-banks-trade-bitcoin-crypto-scams/
The Ledger: Ethereum Price Flattens, Banks Trade Bitcoin, Crypto Scams
Imitation may be the sincerest form of flattery in some cases, but in cryptocurrency, it’s generally the surest sign of a scam.
So I knew right away that something was fishy when I got an email last weekend with the subject line, “Your likeness on Coins Miner’s webpage.”
It was from the director of the enforcement division of the Texas State Securities Board—the state’s market regulator—alerting me to a video published by Coins Miner Investment Ltd. “that purports to depict you discussing bitcoin/cryptocurrencies.” Uh oh.
The email went on, “Can you please confirm that you are not a senior writer for Coins Miner and that you did not authorize Coins Miner to use the video on its website?”
This, I hoped, should have been obvious. The video, posted three weeks ago on YouTube and embedded on Coins Miner’s website, is a corrupted version of a short explanatory clip I filmed more than a year ago for Fortune, where I am a senior writer.
Ironically, the original title of my video, which is available both on Fortune.com and YouTube, is, “The Risks of Investing in Cryptocurrency.” Coins Miner had taken it, mashed it up with their own promotional materials, and superimposed their own logo over the Fortune watermark in the video. Check out the following screenshots:
  Can you spot the difference?
At this point, I am confident that Coins Miner is not only risky, but almost certainly a fraud. Of course, there are red flags screaming scam all over the company’s website, such as its “about us” section, which reads, “Welcome To Coins Miner( The No.1 Leading Crypto Trading And Mining Platform). We Started Coins Miner Two Years Ago And We Have Been Paying Our Investors With Peace And Unity.” Now, it also seems likely that the authorities will shut it down.
I’m not, however, shocked by this scheme. Back in October, I got a LinkedIn message from someone asking if I was affiliated with the now-defunct Coinsminer.org, which was using my video on its homepage, and had uploaded it to the video hosting site Vimeo. At the time, someone in our video department had made a copyright complaint to Vimeo, which promptly removed the material.
False impersonations abound in the scammy underbelly of the cryptocurrency industry. Remember the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission’s public service announcement in the form of a spoof ICO website about “HoweyCoins?” That came after crypto sites started listing actor Ryan Gosling as one of their team members.
A few weeks ago, I also received a Facebook message from someone asking if I work at Nexusonemarkets. “The reason is because I have been investing in this blockchain platform and the assistant operation manager named Jen Wieczner has been attending to me and collected $10,900 so far from me,” the person wrote.
By the time I read the message, the Nexusonemarkets website was already suspended by its hosting provider. But I suspect they were pulling off a similar con using my name. (It’s exceedingly unlikely that this was an innocent case of mistaken identity. My last name, which originates in Poland, isn’t common—even with the proliferation of global social media platforms, I’ve never come across anyone else in the world with my exact name.)
The real irony, though, is that blockchain technology is supposed to enable us to gain control over our own identities; I can use a cryptographic signature to prove I am really me. Theoretically, I should be able to use the same methods to protect my copyrighted material—if YouTube had a blockchain on which my videos lived, the only way someone could gain access to my content would be if I authorized it.
Clearly, there’s a lot of work to be done before that will be possible. In the meantime, if you see me or my name attached to anything other than Fortune or The Ledger, stay away.
